FCC: CableCARD successor should be apps

The FCC was originally trying to push through a requirement that cable feeds be directly open to third party box manufacturers. They have since backed away from this proposal and are now proposing that cable companies be required to make apps available for third party boxes, an idea that was originally proposed by the cable companies themselves. The cable companies are now opposed to the entire idea of any regulation though.

This doesn't seem to bode well for the future of TiVo.
