RF/IR Remote Question

I have 1 Roamio and 3 RF capable Mini's. When I pair a remote to its device is that remote unique to its device? Right now the bedroom mini remote seems to affect the living room Roamio. Our house isn't that big but each device is "hidden" so I'd like to have the ability to control each by RF remote independent of the other devices.

1. transfer .tivo (MPEG2 style) files from a Roamio using Tivo Desktop or PyTivo Desktop to the PC.
2. convert to .mpg files using VideoReDo.
3. run .mpg file through CCExtractor.

Fargo shows no upcoming episodes. Worked fine until two weeks ago. Deleted Onepass and created new one. Still no recordings scheduled. Had to manualled set up.

Graveyard Cars - shows upcoming NEW episodes but none are scheduled to record. Asks me if I want to create Onepass (which I already have). Deleted Onepass and created new one- same problem. No recording scheduled.

New Bolts MAY be coming with much better fans - even better than the recommended replacement fans?

I am starting a new thread on this so the information does not get buried in all the other complaints about noisy fans and poor cooling. Those other threads regularly recommend replacement of the stock fan with a Blacksilentfan XS-2 to both make the box quieter and lower the temps by about 10 degrees.

After a 3 week test run my wife decided it was a keeper and now wants a Mini in the exercise room.

TiVo Remote with Onkyo Receivers

I'm using a TiVo Bolt with three Minis. The Bolt and one of the Minis are connected to Samsung TVs and Onkyo receivers. The problem I have is reliable on/off control of the Onkyos with the TiVo remote.

In each case I've programmed the TiVo remote to control power on both the Samsung TV and the attached Onkyo receiver using the appropriate codes for each. I did the programming by entering the Samsung code for power button first, and then separately entering the Onkyo code for the power...

No Audio

I was starting to see some audio dropout issues (video was perfect, no pixelation with it) on some live TV and recordings over the past week and then this morning, it got really bad and then cut out all together. I now have no audio at all coming from my TiVo Roamio Plus.

I tried rebooting, switching HDMI cables and also HDMI ports. I changed from Dolby audio to PCM and back. All produce no change at all...I still have no sound. I called TiVo and tried a bunch of things, also to no avail....

I've noticed that my Roamio can start a recording of a live show already past the 30-minutes buffer, yet it still starts at the beginning, say, 40 minutes ago. How does it do that? My previous Series2 could only pick-up at the beginning of the buffer

This morning I noticed that our Premiere XL only had the orange/yellow light on the front panel on.

I turned on the TV and the screen was black and the TV was reporting the resolution repeatedly, like it was losing HDMI sync. I power cycled the TiVo and it's working now.


ALSO, twice in the last two weeks, we found it in a state where we'd only get a gray screen when trying to play video. It didn't matter if the video was recorded or live. The menus worked fine. I don't recall...

I have a bolt with the seagate 2tb that I removed from an enclosure about a year ago. I bought 2 more Bolts and 2 more seagates a month ago. Both of the new drives have already failed. This morning the year old Bold/drive had the flashing lights. Pulling the plug got that one restarted again.

Silly question...
At the end of a TV episode, once the theme starts playing, I get a box on the bottom right showing the next episode and a countdown to it starting. At this point, the up/down/FF/Rew buttons stop working and the only choices I have are to wait for the next episode or hit select to start it right away (and once the next one starts my buttons are back).
Does this happen to anyone else?

What bundled streaming services (e.g. SlingTV, DirecTV Now, etc.) are supported on the BOLT?

I really want to get away from Comcast cable and already have an HD antenna for OTA network channels, but need a source for "cable" channels like CNN, MSNBC, Bravo, Food, etc.

I have a BOLT with three Minis and really like the TiVo UI and DVR, but unless I find a solution to the streaming channels, I seem to be stuck with Comcast.

In my area, Comcast has started to move and group channels over 999 into what they call "families". Channels with similar content are being grouped together in ranges of 13xx, 14xx, 15xx etc... My One Pass failed to record the most recent Doctor Who because BBCA moved from the 1200 range to somewhere in the 1400s. Normally, tivo reflects channel changes and moves pretty smoothly. Not this time. I can't tune to the old BBCA channel and all of the channels in the new ranges have no guide...

premiere deleted all new shows even with 40% empty

i had 60 % full and i'm using pytivo to upload a movie that is 1 gig. it deleted tons of shows. at least 30 SD shows from a sub channel (very little space) and some 1 hour shows.

it started to do this last night and i stopped it because i saw it was deleting files but it was about 68% full then.

so what gives?

I've now killed 2 of the Samsung/Seagate 4TB drives, in under a week each, it's obvious to me that these cheap laptop drives cannot stand up to the rigors of DVR usage, spinning 24 X 7 with heavy usage.

I am looking to develop an app for TiVo using HTML but don't really know where to start or if this is actually possible. I have an account at developer.tivo.com but I can't find any documentation there except for the TiVo Control API and I don't think that is what I am looking for. Looking around I have seen people mention the Opera Devices SDK in reference to TiVO. I also have seen the HME SDK but that seems to be an old system and doesn't seem to have an HTML API.

Hi new here,
I've only had TiVo for about 3 weeks. Have a brand new Roamio everything works fine on it except the connection speeds while streaming content Netflix, YouTube etc... On the built in apps.
Stops to buffer and sometimes loses connection, I have twc 100mbps internet

My series 3 went down last week and being well out of warranty (I jumped on the Series 3 upgrade promotion) I opened the case. The first obvious issue was the Capxon (known bad capacitor vendor) brand capacitor bulging and starting to leak.

I wonder how many other Series 3 units are experiencing this problem.

REWIND 1 - doesn't work intelligently

I have probably brought this up before. On my Bolt:

REWIND 1 is incredibly slow - appears to jump back jerkily at around 1.3x, which is equivalent in speed (but not smoothness) to the forward QuickMode. (Compare to FAST-FORWARD 1, which on my system appears to be 3x.) You can reverse manually much more quickly (but still much more slowly than REWIND 2) by pressing PAUSE followed by REWIND multiple times.

But, it seems if you press REWIND once; then press it again to increase to REWIND 2;...

Adjustable auto jump back

The feature that automatically brings the video back certain amount of time when you come out of fast-forward should have an adjustable future to compensate for the users speed in hitting the play button when zooming thru commercials. Some people like me are able to hit it very quickly and it jumps back too far, my wife hits it late and it doesn't jump back far enough.

I have a Season Pass set to record the 6:30pm local news daily, yet recently it doesn't record on Sundays and Monday holidays. And it doesn't tell me why it isn't recording on those days. What is going on?

Hoping to get some advice - I'm British but am likely to be making a permanent move to America (most likely San Diego) so am a bit unsure on how things work.

At home I have a custom built HTPC running Windows 7 and use MCE. Man this Plex app is awful for me. Runs fine on the TV. Problem is at least on the Sony I can't set the picture settings unless it's on an input. So im either watching it on an overly bright picture or this piece of junk. The TiVo just stutters all the time. Is this a hard drive issue or what? Even a stream of 1mbps or less and it still either buffers every couple of minutes or gets really bad about 10 mins in. Totally unwatchable. Sound stops and it keeps jerking. Its bad.

Looking to replace my 2 tuner 2TB Premiere with the Roamio 1TB OTA. Prices are about $350 with lifetime right now. Which seems like a pretty good deal. Looks like my luck's run out, had the Tivo on a UPS but I think the hit may have come in from cable.

Symptoms are that it has no video output (no Welcome screen) - green circle lights up when I plug it in then it gets to the flashing yellow circle for a bit like a normal boot up, then it reboots over and over again. Never outputs anything to the screen.

I have Charter Spectrum with a Tuner Adapter and suddenly I have lost my digitally switched channels. Everything is still connected with the Coax and USB from the T/A to the Bolt. At the end of a TV episode, once the theme starts playing, I get a box on the bottom right showing the next episode and a countdown to it starting. At this point, the up/down/FF/Rew buttons stop working and the only choices I have are to wait for the next episode or hit select to start it right away (and once the next one starts my buttons are back).

Have a Premier Series 4 and a Bolt both work great, with one exception, the remotes. The Boggle is: The Premier Remote will also control the Bolt, and it is by infrared as I've covered the bolts sensor location on the face. The Bolt remote doesn't affect the premier. Bolt Plus issue: No lights and no video outpout

Hello, so my Bolt+ is powering on when I plug it in (I hear the fan and the hard drive spool up) but there are no lights on the front of the device and no video output. I've tried cold booting it (removing the cable card, Ethernet, coax and AC power for 30 minutes) with no luck. Does this sound like a power supply issue? I just purchased a TiVo Roamio OTA and a TiVo Mini. I am confused about how to set up the Mini.

I have an antenna signal running to the all the coax connections where the TVs are connected.

My main TV has the Roamio OTA and is by my router. It has an ethernet connection at it.

My 2nd TV is where I was going to put the Mini. No ethernet connection there.

Anyone else have this problem with setting up a Bolt? Of course, Cox wants to blame Tivo, but it's been my experience there's a great deal of mis-guided knowledge over at the cable card activation department. Anyone else, at any cable company, having the same problems with a fresh install in a Bolt?

I have two series 3 units. Both listed shows I recorded in groups. now, one continues to do that, and the other unit lists each episode of a show separately, which is highly annoying.

I have gone through every possible setting, and I cannot find how to switch back to groups in the show listing. Can anyone assist with this?

What are the current channels that currently require MSOs to copy protect?

I believe HBO and Cinemax started the trend. I know there are certain Fox channels that are required by Fox to be copy protected. Nat Geo, and FX come to mind. I would guess FXX would be included also.

So basically looking for a comprehensive list of copy protected channels as required by the content provider.

Big undershoot on Roamio fast-forward

I'm having a new issue on my Roamio (base unit). Fast forward used to do a great job of compensating for my response time, backing up about a quarter second from where I hit play again. For the last several weeks however, FF (on the 2nd fastest mode), backs up almost two seconds, leaving me well prior to where I wanted to be.

Is anyone else seeing this?

And is there a way to fix it? I can purposely overshoot to compensate when doing FF, but that seems lame.

One of the threads I looked at (regarding transferring content from one to the other had >10,000 posts! Canceled Tivo yesterday.

Today I canceled after 12 years using Tivo. I canceled because I canceled cable TV and do not get any decent OTA reception. I may use it again if I move and get good OTA reception, but I will never use a cable card again.

The reason I posted is because of all the horror stories about canceling and still being charged.

I was attempting a passive splitter when suddenly audio went to total failure. Pix seems normal.
Is a repair easily accomplished, or is motherboard failed.

I was starting to see some audio dropout issues (video was perfect, no pixelation with it) on some live TV and recordings over the past week and then this morning, it got really bad and then cut out all together. I now have no audio at all coming from my TiVo Roamio Plus.

I tried rebooting, switching HDMI cables and also HDMI ports. I changed from Dolby audio to PCM and back. All produce no change at all...I still have no sound. I called TiVo and tried a bunch of things, also to no avail....

Hotwire claims that they don't need to provide cable cards because they are technically listed as an internet company. They provide an terrible 4-tuner DVR with companion boxes.

After a 3 week test run my wife decided it was a keeper and now wants a Mini in the exercise room.

I spoke with Tivo support tonight via chat. They told me there is no ETA for the patch to fix this, but they are working on it. I made it clear I was very disappointed to hear that. He made these suggestions:

1. Reboot your Tivo by unplugging for 15 seconds.
2. change HDMI cords.
3. change the HDMI input on your TV to a different input.

What would be the best workflow to copy a TiVo recording to my PLEX server and retain the CC (or Subtitles)? No editing involved -- I don't need to cut out commercials, but I do need to preserve the ability to turn on/off CC when playing back the recording through PLEX.

I came home from a few weeks out of town and there was no picture or sound from the OTA. A quick glance at the receiver and there was no sync'd HDMI signal on the input.

We have a Tivo Mini, and from that I can see that everything else about the OTA seems to be ok. Recordings are being made, we can watch shows & delete them, etc. Ultimately, the OTA is still online and working - it just doesn't seem to be anything out on the HDMI port.

This problem seems to have started with the OnePass update. It doesn't happen to everyone - it depends on the exact setup. Most trick plays can cause it (rewind, etc.) but pause seems to be the biggest offender.

I've bugged TiVo about this repeatedly, and they claim they are working on a solution. Their suggested workaround in the meantime is to switch to PCM 2-channel sound, which is not really acceptable. Rebooting the TV or simply switching inputs away from the TiVo and then back...

I used to use the streaming apps built into my smart TV along side a windows media center setup for DVR functionality. When we switched back to Tivo (roamio) I figured it was a lot simpler to just use it's built in apps and never really noticed a difference, in fact it was "better" because the netflix app on my TV had a tendency to sometimes lock up my entire TV. The apps on the tivo didn't really feel any faster, but seemed to be pretty stable.

Just wanted to start a thread with various troubleshooting measures that have been tested;

1. Manually rebooted - No Difference.
2. Upgraded connection cable between wall outlet to Tivo to RG6 from RG59 - No Difference.
3. Cooled system down from 48 C to 43 C using external fan - No Difference.
4. Changed from Component to HDMI Connection - No Difference, but resolution switching is more smooth on my Sony VBR2.

Fargo shows no upcoming episodes. Worked fine until two weeks ago. Deleted Onepass and created new one. Still no recordings scheduled. Had to manualled set up.

I've been recording some blocks of time for a friend and burning them to dvd with no issue, Except I'm having a hella time with Boomerang. It plays fine on my tivo but the minute I transfer it over to my pc it gets audio drops and pixelated to the point you can't even see what is happening. I'm completely confused as it plays perfectly fine on my tivo but not on my pc? its not copyright flagged and I use kmttg (latest update) to transfer over and it completely transfers with no problem.

pyTivo lets you stream most videos from your PC to your unhacked TiVo. It uses the HMO server protocol, so no hacking of the TiVo is required.

I purchased two of these in the upgrade deal but now I need the cash and decided to go with minis to save in the long run as well, so one has to go.
It is brand new and unopened, in fact I didn't even open the box it came in from TiVo let alone the actual Bolt box itself.

Lifespan of a Tivo Premier?

Anyone have experience on how long a Premier unit will last? I've had mine for 4+ years and it works fine. They are now offering me lifetime service on it if I pay a one-time $99 fee and trying to decide if it's worth it or just get X1 from Xfinity.

Can you move a TIVO Roamio hard drive to a Roamio plus without reformatting?

I upgraded my TIVO Roamio with a 8TB drive and recorded a bunch of shows on it.

I then upgraded to a TIVO Roamio plus with 6 tuners but I want to know if I can just move my hard drive over from my TIVO roamio 4 tuner or if I need to do the reformatting again.

Well, when TiVo does something for the better, I have to call them out on it, just as I give them grief when they, ummm, screw up.

The TiVo youtube app for the Roamio is much better than it used to be.
In prior messages I noted vigorously that I was subjected to 2 or 3 minute ads before I was allowed to watch a 1 or 2 minute video. I noted to complete and utter stupidity of subjecting customers to such abuse.

New Bolts MAY Have Better Fans

New Bolts MAY be coming with much better fans - even better than the recommended replacement fans?

I am starting a new thread on this so the information does not get buried in all the other complaints about noisy fans and poor cooling. Those other threads regularly recommend replacement of the stock fan with a Blacksilentfan XS-2 to both make the box quieter and lower the temps by about 10 degrees.

Tivo failed to record AGAIN, Customer Support doesn't.

For the second time in three weeks, my season passes did not record earlier today with my TiVO reporting the reason as "Account Closed."

This despite the stats showing my Lifetime Subscription is fully in place and recognized by my TiVo.

When this happened two weeks ago, I contacted customer support and got the automated email promising a response with 24 hours.

I've heard nothing.

So do I need to throw my TiVO in the trash? Sell it on eBay?

Transfering .tivo files back to tivo

I moved all my files from my tivo to a hardrive in prep for replacing the drive. Using desktop plus. all seemed to go well. but I am having an exceptionally hard time getting them back. they either will start the transfer but never finish it of refuse to do so at all.
I have looked for a copy of pytivo but there appear to be many versions around and I cannot find any that can be installed, anyone hve suggestion or possible websites that have everything i need in one place. I did get...

With ads, pages are very slow and never finish loading.

I turned off my ad blocker. I appreciate that the site has to make some money.

But since then, the page loads have been excruciatingly slow and they never truly finish. My TC tabs always have spinners. (Image from this thread attached.)

It's more annoying than clearing the nag dialog. If it doesn't get better, I'll go back to that.

Apparently 20.7.1 has major HDMI issues

I was told there is a major issue with 20.7.1 and numerous folks have called in stating that some time after the update when the Bolt reboots, they lose HDMI.
Some lose signal entirely, some lose sound, some have a very poor picture/sound afterwards. I still get picture if I let my TV sit for almost a minute when I switch HDMI ports to the Bolt. Seems like it could be an HDMI handshake issue. I tried a Panasonic and Samsung TV.

Hello all,

I rented a film on Amazon this weekend through the app on Roamio and noticed an annoying quirk with the way it handles aspect ratios in relation to the ZOOM button setting.

The film is Deathgasm, which is listed with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio on IMDB but it filled the frame on my LCD meaning it was displaying at 1.78:1 (16:9). We noticed the opening titles and text graphics (which were close to the edges of the frame)...

reliable 2.5" drive for Tivo Bolt?

I've now killed 2 of the Samsung/Seagate 4TB drives, in under a week each, it's obvious to me that these cheap laptop drives cannot stand up to the rigors of DVR usage, spinning 24 X 7 with heavy usage.

This is the drive, FYI:

Has anyone found a RELIABLE, 2, 3 or 4TB 2.5" laptop drive to expand their Tivo BOLT reliably? If so, I'd like to hear about it, I am getting tired of setting up these drives and re-doing...
