Crazy "Gotham" theory (spoilers inevitable)

In, as I recall, the second episode, we see young Bruce drawing or doodling something with an ink pen.

What if in the TV show costumed heroes and villains never happen?

The villains, like Penguin and Riddler and the others in the legacy stable still become villains, they just never wind up in more than slightly out of the ordinary street clothes.

And Detective Gordon goes on fighting crime and all that, but Bruce, in a typical for a boy his age way, invents Batman on paper as a comics character, rather than waiting 'till he's grown to make him an alter-ego.

Or perhaps I should say invents Batman as a comics character alter-ego (able to fight the bad guys in ways that a barely turned teenage boy can but dream of being able to do), rather than later as a real-life alter-ego.

If the show stays on the air for a decade or so, they can decide whether to have Bruce decide to bring Batman to life or not.

I think I'd actually prefer this kind of reboot of the Batman story to waiting around to see how soon somebody shows up in tights and a cape, and frankly looking kind of silly in the 'noir' look they've given the show and the city.

But a Batcave would be perfectly acceptable.
