Olive Kitteridge, HBO miniseries, Four episodes

My wife and I have watched half this series now, one hour on each of two different nights. Second half is on the Tivo, to be watched soon.

This is certainly not everyone's cup of tea, no gun fire so far, no crude humor, but I really enjoy it.

The lead actors, McDormand and Jenkins, have long been favorites of mine and do not disappoint here. They are a married couple in a New England town (I'd kill for the view from their house) and get along as many long married couples do. She is the dominant person in the household but he has strengths as well, quiet though they are.

The story keeps flipping back and forth between different time periods and they don't make much of an attempt to help the viewer (this viewer, at least) figure out which time period they are in. The lead characters don't seem to age or 'youth' from one period to another so the time clues come from the children or other characters. This bothers me a bit but it keeps me on my toes, something few tv shows do these days.

Half way through, looking forward to the rest. I don't think there is much danger of spoilers here, though some viewers would probably not agree with me. The story doesn't rely on specific actions, at least for me, its more just the journey.

And the new daughter-in-law is quite fetching as she tries to find her missing earring. :)
