Person of Interest - S4E14 - “Guilty” 02/10/2015

Well, I have to say that “Guilty” has to be the most “procedural” episode of POI I’ve seen since, I don’t know, Season 1?

I get that the writers tend to want to calm things down a bit after the last few episodes and this episode did that but maybe I’m guilty of wanting a little more here.

This week, the Machine arranges for Finch to be put on a jury with this week’’s number, the retired schoolteacher Emma, played by Blair Brown, for the trial of a man accused of killing his wife.

It all seemed very routine, even with the twist of the jury fix not being to find the accused innocent, but Guilty (I called that when they realized that someone was threatening Emma).

I was also surprised at the lack of tie in to any of the long ranging arcs. (In fact, with the focus on Reese and Finch this episode, this really felt like this was a Season 1 script that was dusted off and tweaked a bit for Season 4.)

Sure, those three numbers that they missed when Samaritan went on the offensive may be linked to Dominic and Reese and Finch talked they others they couldn’t save during that time.

And I was sure that the “5K” protocol that they were talking about was going to turn out to be something that would help Samaritan monitor and track people and that Samaritan was going to be the one who was trying to fix the jury.

I was a tad disappointed when that turned out not to be the case.

Considering Paige Turco’s Zoe Morgan being brought up in the last couple of threads, I was pleasantly surprised to see her pop up here though. I guess she got enough leave time from Camp Jaha and the 100 to pop in for a few days of shooting.

Although her real function seemed to be to point out that John is starting to have feelings for Isis the therapist.

Which is kind of interesting because at least we’re seeing a glimpse of the human being that’s behind the mask of John Reese.

The other interesting thing was (again) Fusco and the fact he didn’t like being shut out of the operation.

You have to give him some respect for chewing out Reese, saying that it was his decision.

I did like Harold trying to get excused by telling them about the super computer that’s watching them all.
