It took quite a while, but now that I finally have a reliably working TiVo home, I can say I'm glad I didn't give up on it, as I'd initially planned.
Over the past year, I've had to return several Roamios and Minis during the return window - and in one case sell them - because I could not get a reliable setup to work with my FiOS home. I changed the ONT, cabling, splitters, connectors, used MoCA from the FiOS router, Ethernet, used MoCA network from the Roamio and just couldn't get the Minis to perform reliably. Odd, because I never had a problem with the FiOS Quantum Mini-equivalents or the DirecTV Mini-equivalents. They worked flawlessly. But the FiOS DVRs are terrible - the software, the equipment, the restrictions, the small hard drive, the cost, the performance - so I didn't want to throw in the towel on TiVo.
Two things have happened in the last couple months that - perhaps coincidentally, perhaps not - finally resolved my issues. 1) A new FiOS Quantum router provisioned for coax instead of Cat 6; and 2) The new Mini models. Since then it's been absolute nirvana. No dropped signals or streams, live TV and recorded TV work flawlessly through the home on our two Pros and three Minis. No CableCard issues, no signal issues - hell, I don't even need to use an attenuator on any of the coax connections.
Been seeing a lot of negative regarding TiVo around here lately - especially with 1P, which I think is wonderful overall - and wanted to share my thoughts about how pleased we are with the experience. Hopefully the impending CableCard decisions don't render TiVo moot in the future, because I don't want to go back to the cruddy FiOS DVRs.
