Brand new Roamio is painfully slow

Okay, this started off as I replaced my broken TiVo HD with a Roamio. It developed a problem where it would freeze up - infrequent at first, but eventually/gradually it got to the point of being a daily problem. Towards the end, it was also accompanied with "HDMI connection not permitted" problems (not sure if that's the exact wording).

I was getting within a couple of days of the 3 month warranty expiring, so I made a claim, and they sent me a new one. I think I've had it almost a month, and it hasn't freezed up until today. I also have recently gotten those HDMI error messages again, but my research indicates that's probably a problem with my HDMI cable, not a TiVo problem. Sometimes rebooting the TV or unplugging/replugging the cable fixes it, according to others, and yes, it seems my experience is the same. So that means I have a temporary workaround (but I should probably buy a new cable.)

But here's my more worrisome problem. Once I rebooted, I'm finally getting around to setting up my first season pass on it. (Why this has taken so long is a long story, having to do with disagreements with my wife, on which TiVo will be mine, and which will be hers.)

Many buttons take 8 seconds to process (like to find a list of shows.) Some buttons are faster, but in the season pass menu, when I click <Options> to see a list of season pass options, it took 20 seconds to show me the next screen.

My old TiVo HD used to be so much faster than this. Are all Roamios this slow, or does this sound like a defect / malfunction I'm dealing with?

In the last several years, I've had a disturbingly large amount of TiVo malfunctions. Basically once I moved to this house I'm in, things have gone south with my TiVos, while at my last house, they performed admirably.
