Anyone else noticing an odd Dolby issue on MONO recordings or recordings that should not be sending audio to the rear speakers?
On programming that should only be heard through the front speakers, I am finding that there is a periodic (about 2-3 second) burst of low level static or possibly very distorted audio from the two rear speakers. It is fine for 2-3 seconds, then the low level distorted audio fades up and then back out over a period of maybe 200-300mS. This repeats over and over at a 2-3 second rate. The distorted audio is very low level, but high enough to be audible and is HIGHLY annoying.
If I understand how Dolby works, it sounds like the phasing between the two stereo channels is drifting back and forth at about a 2-3 second rate? So the left and right channels on mono programming are not always perfectly in phase and producing spurious rear channel output?
Note that on Dolby programing or programming that produces legitimate rear speaker audio, this issue is not audible. I can't tell if it is not present or simply masked by the legitimate audio.
I just noticed it this morning..... I can't say for certain but I don't THINK this has been present in the past. I hear it on live programming as well as older recordings such as old B/W movies recorded six months ago on TCM.
My setup:
Roamio basic, connected to Samsung TV via HDMI
TV connected to a Sherwood RD-6500 via fiber optic cable
Addendum.....
I connected a simple antenna to the TV and tried direct off the air reception..... no issues at all on Dolby or non-Dolby programming. And oddly, when I switched back to the Roamio, the issue was gone as well. I guess it could be my TV but I kind of doubt it.
I also noticed that the Dolby Pro Logic indicator in the receiver was red on OTA programming and blue for all Roamio programming. This is not explained anywhere that I could find in the poorly worded manual, unfortunately.
