I bought my 500GB Bolt back in January because I was switching from Dish, really wanted Skipmode and got a really, really good price of $211 at Frys. Wasn't really interested in 4K.
Since then, I've dumped Dish completely and implemented a dual-pronged TiVo approach. I got a 3TB Roamio Pro All-In with cablecard for the cable channels. In a cable/Internet bundle, I am only paying a $10 monthly premium over my previous Internet-only cost - it goes up $30 after the 24-month intro pricing. A far cry from the $165/month Dish was ripping me off (1/3 of the cost was equipment fees) for the same channels.
The second prong of my approach was to use the Bolt for OTA with the Roamio Pro on cable as our viewing tastes are equally split between cable and OTA.
I like the Bolt, but really dislike the following about it:
- the 2.5" HDD
- the speed at which the 3TB HDD fills up with OTA content
- the cost of the Bolt All-In plan
Based on all this, I just purchased the new 1TB Roamio OTA and fully intend to upgrade it with a 6TB 3.5" NAS HDD for about $240. When my Bolt free year of service expires next January, I plan to just stop using it unless TiVo throws a decent All-In discount to the Bolt customers coming off their free year of service.
Unless you need 4K, the Roamio All In deals from TiVo are really good now that the Roamio has quickmode and skipmode.
Thoughts?
