I don't like to see those banners running across the bottom of the screen, especially on sports such as football. Besides being ugly and distracting, they often contain spoilers for other sports I might be recording, or contain ads.
Currently, I have a black pole that I place in front of the tv to blot these out. It would be nice if I could do this via the remote.
So, I would suggest a crop control, with say a setup window that would,
For example, I might then set 3 cropping sizes of say, 20,40,60 pixels and then use the B color key to cycle between the 3 sizes and OFF. (note, I didn't actually measure, so these 3 cropping sizes are just representative of what I might want to setup).

So, I would suggest a crop control, with say a setup window that would,
- enable or disable the feature
- setup a hot key (color key, for example) to cycle between several crop settings and no cropping.
- an option for where this cropping occurs (top or bottom) with default at bottom
