Is TiVo Desktop for PC as worthless as I think it is?

I've read the postings that came up when I started this new thread. However, I see that they're all several years old.



I recently purchased TiVo Desktop for PC. I had no trouble installing it or transferring several shows. However, when I went to watch my first show on it, I realized that it lacked so many features that I found it to be worthless. No ability to pause, it would restart at the beginning. No skip, no fast forward. All it provided was watching a show from start to finish with commercials, as if I were watching live TV forty years ago.



I think I understand that all TiVo Desktop provides is file transfer to the PC and conversions. I'm actually watching on Windows Media Player. I tried Wondershare conversion to MP4 and watching on VideoLAN. Total failure, what I ended up with unrecognizable.



Any suggestions? Perhaps an update on the programs mentioned years ago, such as pyTivo, streambaby and kmttg?
