I purchased a basic Roamio with lifetime service about a year ago for OTA use. Since that time I've been struggling to get reliable viewing/recording. After restart, I get marginal but adequate reception but then shows don't get reliably recorded or tuning to channels doesn't always work till I either restart the box or go to the signal meter for a specific station. I've bought a couple different antennas, placed them different places (now on a pole 10' above the house), tried preamps, etc.
I always thought the issue was what the signal strength meter was showing - just adequate signal strength. But now, looking at the DVR diagnostics screen I just noticed that one of my tuners is not performing nearly as well as the others. For example when tuner 0 might have a 72% signal strength and 29dB SNR (not great but adequate), tuner 1 will have only 32% SS and 13dB SNR. Tuners 2 and 3 are always similar to tuner 0. Tuner 1 is always very low compared to the others.
Is this normal, or at least not uncommon? To get reliable service am I going to have to boost my incoming signal enough for the poor tuner to have adequate numbers (if that is even possible..)? Or does this indicate a defect with the unit?
I've had Tivo's since the very first Directivo unit, and this is the only one I've had any issues with. It's been a frustrating year!
