First off, I want to say that I love the first new opening sequence with Finch and Greer going back and forth.
It does reemphasize the Machine Wars aspect of the show.
The shift back to more number of the week wasnt a surprise either considering the Machine still isnt 100%.
But its still giving out numbers that Team Machine need to look into.
This weeks number belonged to Alex Duncan, a cyber security guy who quite honestly, isnt that interesting.
But hes digging into the death of his brother, an Army Intelligence officer, by stealing classified documents, which gets the CIA on his tail.
And the Head CIA is Keith Davids Beale, who just happens to be Johns former boss.
Ooops number 1.
And it turns out that that Reese and Kara Stanton were the CIA Operatives who were ordered to look into the older Duncan and John shot him dead.
Ooooppps number 2.
So while we dont care that much about Alex Duncan here, its a fascinating look again into John Reeses past and his psyche and while he may want a normal life, deep down, he doesnt think he can have it or deserves it.
Hence, his kiss off to Iris the therapist this episode.
I must admit that I was little surprised when it did turn out that the elder Duncan was selling out his country but I suppose that I cant really argue with Johns decision to give Alex what he needed instead of what he wanted.
Meanwhile, Finch and Root manage to intercept and copy one of Samaritans malware installs and they are (cautiously) seeing what it does in a controlled environment.
Always glad to see Keith David and he didnt disappoint here.
I also found it interesting that Beale has decided to keep the fact that Johns alive to himself (at least for now).
