Are Series 1 Tivos usable in other countries?

I have one with Lifetime and upgraded hard drive in perfect condition. Think I could use it to pause TV maybe, with an IR thing and a converter box? Selling it cheap to someone who could use it would be great if I could find anyone who wants it. Not looking to make any money... Brenda
