Revisiting: VCR to S2 Tivo To PC

I have an ancient S2 Tivo that I am using to convert an old VHS tape to digital. Everything is set up and working great. However, there is an issue where no matter what I try the file on the TiVo will not transfer to the PC. I have tried so many things to get this to work. I used the web interface, it fails. I use TiVo Destop, it fails. I tried breaking up the video into small chunks, but the one section always fails. This task is becoming a nightmare. I tried to do it on my TiVo HD but redoing the guided setup to add the antenna as a source caused the TiVo HD to lock up. It took me all day to get it to get past the guided set-up and be normal again so I gave up trying to use the TiVo HD oveer the S2. Any suggestions are welcome. There must be a problem where the recording has so many glitches the TiVo is refusing to transfer it over to the PC. The video plays fine on the TiVo, but it is stuck there.
