SDV tuning question

Without going into all the reasons why I absolutely can't stand SDV, I'm hoping for a solution to the main issue I constantly experience. Many of my favorite channels are SDV (Bright House cable and Motirola tuning adapter). That said, if I happen to turn off the TV while tuned to an SDV channel and come back several hours later I generally am greeted with a black screen and an error V53. I realize that SDV channels generally time out after approximately 4 hours. The problem is that TiVo doesn't attempt to re-tune the current channel and requires me tuning to an untuned channel and coming back to the previous SDV channel in order to force TiVo to retune the SDV channel (I hope that makes sense). Is there a way to force TiVo to retune a channel without having to do it this way?
