Hi def default setting?

I seem to have a long slow learning curve on my new Bolts.

I have discovered that hitting the D button will put me in hi def and get rid of the letter box.
Is there a setting that will default to hi def so I don't have to teach my wife to hit the D button every time she changes the channel. She is a mad channel surfer and often changes the channel several times a minute.
