Falling Skies "Shoot the Moon" (8/31/14) [SPOILERS!]

Does anyone believe that the Volm let Lexi crash into the power plant without beaming her out?

Is anyone still watching?

Daddy! Come save the puny humans!

The good guys can one-shot all the eshfeeni ships, but don't have the tech to find Tom's beamer?

Shades of Ellen Ripley with the flamethrower.

I must admit, I did get a little misty eyed at the father/daughter goodbye scene. (When Lexi was a brunette).

I opted to make this post about part 2 of the finale, instead of both eps.

New to Tivo, cable cards, and TAs - all is not well

I have two problems (1 - pixilation on a number of channels and 2 - no SDV channels are being displayed - error V52). Here are the details.

I have a Roamio Basic w/4 tuners and have Brighthouse (Tampa) as my cable provider. I purchased and installed the unit last May and had Brighthouse perform in install. My first tuning adapter was defective so they replaced it and all was good (Tivo performed well and all SDV channels were accessible for at least 30 days). We leave Florida in the summer but I always leave my DVR on so that I can capture my favorite programs while we are away. When we got home the other day it appeared that the summer recording was all there. I actually checked that it happening while we were away and made adjustments using the iPad remote app. The first thing I noticed was that many (but not all) recordings were very pixelated. The pixelated recordings were also only on a handful of channels (ABC, FOX, and several sports channels but not NBC, History, Discovery, and others. When I tune the problem channels to just watch them they are also pixelated (some minor, some severe). I am also now unable to tune in the SDV channels even though the diagnostics look OK and the green light on the TA is on steady. I've gone through many reboots/restarts but to no avail. The cable company is sending a tech out after Labor Day so hopefully he can figure it out.

Do I need gigabit ethernet for Mini?

I have the Roamio in the house and the Mini in my separate office. Do I need to run gigabit ethernet for best results? Do I need Cat6 cable to do this?

lifetime discount

Hi,

I am a soon to be new TiVo customer and was wondering when TiVo usually have discounted lifetime subscriptions. Thanks.

minimum MoCA performance

I recently installed a Pro + 2 minis for a friend and she mentioned that one of the Minis has complained about no connection to the Pro, but the situation usually resolves itself pretty quickly.

I checked the network status on all 3 and what I found is that the 2 minis see each other with 280Mbits TX/RX rates and they each see the Pro with only about 120-140Mbits TX/RX. From what I've read that should be enough data rate for them to do their jobs correct?

I'll probably have to crawl around under the house to see how the connections are split (every time I turn around I find another coax cable with a splitter with all 3 ends coming/going into walls and floors so I have little idea of the total topology, grrr).

I did install a PoE filter where I thought it would work best. I found a coax amp and a 1:4 splitter in a closet in the garage. I'm pretty sure that this is fairly far out in the chain of splitters, but only a crawl under the house will likely prove that. I installed the filter just after the amp. I'm guessing that if I installed the filter between the Pro and the two minis that I would have a lot more than half rate, or could that be the cause? (When I'm over there later I guess I can remove the filter and double check, but I wanted to get some idea of the effect of the filter before I do any more experiments.)

Would another amp hidden in the crawl space on the run to the Pro possibly cause the rate to halve?

And could the half rate they are getting possibly be the cause for the occasional "no connection" errors in and of itself, or at least a smoking gun for the cause?

Hr10-250

Cleaning out the garage, found my two old hr10-250s

They were working when I disconnected them except the hd crashed in one

Anyone need some spare, parts before I ewaste them?

Can the mini work in a 2nd home?

This question was asked a while back, and I didn't want to resurrect a long dead thread.

But here's the question: Can I use a Tivo mini to watch my main Tivo DVR from my vacation condo?

I'm not trying to "get around" anything or otherwise do anything illegal. I just want access to my home DVR. Does the mini need to be on the home network to work or is it using the internet? Would it care if the main unit is next door or 100 miles away?

Failing that... can I access and control the Roamio from the internet? I don't mind watching my programs on a computer...

Not able to view the 3 BBC channels

Located in the Milwaukee WI area

Have new ROAMIO installed the cable card and the required card card tuning adapter. Inztallation appeared to go just fine. Last night I had Dr. WHO scheduled to record. Just happened to check on the show about 15 min into it and foud a black screen with a notice that the channel is not authorized by my provider ((V58) i assume this is an error code).. I checked the other 2 BBC channels and they have the same picture and error.

I also have a TIVO Premier on the same cable and the PREMIER is functioning properly the BBC channels are all available on the. Premier ( No Problem with the premier )

TW suggested that I exchange the tuning adapter. Which I did. More calls to support and mor testing and no different resuts. Still no BBC channels.

TW Tech support is at a loss. Matter has been escellated to the next level. Unfortunately, next level wont be around until Tuesday.

very strange.

Tivo hd stuck in reboot cycle.

So nearly a week ago now I thought it would be a good idea to run kickstart 58 on my tivo hd even though it was working fine. I thought it would be good for it. I started it before work one morning and walked away right after entering the code. When I come back from work I turn on the tv and it's stuck in this reboot cycle.

It says powering up, than almost there, than a green screen pops up saying "The DVR has detected a serious problem and is now attempting to fix it." than after guessing 20 seconds it restarts it self and starts all over.

About a year and a half ago I put in 1tb drive that I got new on ebay all ready formatted. (I no longer have the old HD)

I got the ultimate boot disk and ran wdidle3 and checked to see if intellipark was disabled and it was. I also ran a full diagnostic on Data Lifeguard Diagnostic vr 5.22 (from western digital) and it found no errors.

I have tried all the other kick start codes and get no change. other than one time after kickstart 52 it said installing a service update for 20 seconds than restarted. I tried 52 again and it went to green screen error and restarts.

I have tried removing my cable card (only accessory) I have also tied with out the hdmi cable plugged in. It still does it.

I have also visually looked the the capacitors / circuit boards and see no obvious issues.

So I come to you all out of ideas. Thank you for your help.

WD Red or Purple for upgrade?

I'm looking to upgrade my Roamio to 3TB and am having trouble finding the WD Green AV-GP drive at a reasonable price. The WD Red and the WD Purple both seem to be options and are both in the $110 range, but other threads give conflicting advice about which is preferable. Newegg actually shows the Purple as the replacement for the Green AV-GP. Other folks here seem to like the Red. I really need to pull the trigger on one and would appreciate some definitive guidance. Thanks!

The new Roamio, can you just throw in a bigger hard drive and not mess with Linux?

Can I just go and buy a 3TB (or larger) drive and replace the 500GB one in my Roamio Basic arriving wednesday and it just work without doing anything to the drive first? And if so is there a make and model of drive that works best with the Roamio Basic?

new hbo-paramount series "ashecliffe"

found this series development info and wanted to share - i'm looking forward to the series based on the article details alone, hope it makes it to air:

Quote:

HBO and Paramount Television are making deals to turn the 2010 hit film Shutter Island into a TV series. Tentatively titled Ashecliffe, the plan is for the pilot to be directed by Martin Scorsese from a script by Dennis Lehane, who wrote the bestselling thriller novel that Scorsese and screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis turned into the hit film that Leonardo DiCaprio starred in.

android app

I have this fairly new Tivo Roamio basic that is working just fine. I recently downloaded the android app that is available. It is setup and it has found my Tivo. I have a guide, I can record programs. However I dont see anyway that I can watch anything on my Tivo. Am I doing something wrong or is that feature not available on the Tivo android app.

Utopia-live feeds

So the live feeds for Utopia started on Friday. Anyone watching? 2 feeds are free and apparently censored. $5 a month for premium gets the other 2 feeds.

I haven't watched much yet since I'm still watching BB. I'm concerned that after the initial excitement, it might get boring. I like the game aspect of BB more than the watching strangers aspect.

So far, they have had 1 guy almost kicked off for fighting. Josh?

The After, Amazon series pilot

I just watched The After pilot, available online from Amazon. Starts off with six people trapped in an elevator. When they get out, they find there is no power anywhere, and no phone communication. And things get both worse and weirder from there.

If you like things with a post-apocalyptic vibe, you'll probably like this. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series episodes.

Doctor Who - Into The Dalek - OAD 8/30/2014

I enjoyed this more than last week's episode. Capaldi is stepping up nicely and he felt like the Doctor in this episode albeit more callous than the previous few Doctors.

The ending was a bit off though. The Doctor may hate the Daleks, but that doesn't make him a "good Dalek" as the Dalek's hate everyone different from themselves. That doesn't apply to the Doctor. A minor not though since that was the Dalek's interpretation.

I'm curious though how much BBCA cut from this episode compared to what shows in the UK. The commercials were obviously randomly inserted and it seemed like a chunk was cut during that time. For example after the last commercial everyone is suddenly full size, yet they were still shrunk before the commercial.

What's the deal with eBay coupons?

The coupon deal seems fantastic, but it just seems incredibly odd. How can a reseller allow these types of discounts, but TiVo does not give them to the public?

Is this some special reseller program authorized by TiVo? Do eBay sellers just sign up to give discounts and then sell them? It seems like a perfect revenue stream (we should all get into it).

What is this program?

No internet access with Moca adapter

Hi,

Can't seem to find an answer to this.

Recently bought a Roamio Plus and set it up on a Moca network using an Actiontec ECB2500C adapter.

Connection is like this: coax from wall to Actiontec, coax from Actiontec to Comcast cable modem, ethernet from cable modem to Linksys router internet port.

But when I try to connect the ethernet port from the Actiontec to an empty port on the Linksys, I lose all ethernet network connectivity for the house and the ethernet light on the Actiontec starts to blink rapidly. If I unplug it from the router, all goes back to normal.

I thought this was the correct way to do it so any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Force OTA on Roamio Plus/Pro?

I've been looking to get the base Roamio for OTA (of course watching the $49 OTA-only that is coming in September). My problem here is that the base model would require an extra $129 TiVo Stream unit to steam to mobile devices, and this feature is baked in (with additional recording capacity) in the Plus/Pro.

Additionally, the Plus/Pro has the option for cable access in the future.

I am going to assume the answer here is no, that the Plus/Pro cannot tune in ATSC, but is there a way to force it? Or is it a better idea to just get the base model, buy the Stream, commit to a lifetime of service fees, and an external HD to expand space?

RedZone on Fios

Have had yearly problems getting RedZone to work on Fios cablecards. Can somebody without a RedZone subscription tell me what you see on channel 835. I see the RZ splash (every touchdown from every game) which seems promising, but not sure if that is the default.

Thanks

No ads?

I just upgraded my 2 S3 OLED's from 1TB drives to 2TB drives in the past 2 weeks and I noticed that I haven't seen any ads on either. I don't think this is related to the upgrade as I'm pretty sure the ads would have copied over but I'm not sure when I noticed the last ad. I think I happened to notice it at this time as I was paying more attention to see if there were any issues after the upgrade.

Anyone else also have no ads recently? I believe I also saw a post in the Premiere or Roamio forum about someone who had not gotten any ads after their recent software update.

Turn off Power button Functionality

Is there a way to disable the power/standby button on the front of the Roamio?

New OTA-only $50 Roamio

Nevermind! lol

Tivo suggestions: just trickling in

Tivo suggestions has started acting oddly for me...

Normally, it would keep the disk at near 100% full. Now... it doesn't. It does record 2-3 shows a day. But not many. There are clearly lots of thumbs up shows that have not played recently that it can record.

Just as an example... see the attachment. (I can be a little bit of a graphing nut...) I graph several things on tivo stats. If you look at the graph you'll see where in February I tossed all the tivo suggestions. (I replaced a failing hard drive). The suggestions refilled over about a month. If you look at somewhere around June, suggestions suddenly slow down. There is lots of free, unused space and they don't record.

This slow down coincides with me adding cable. I previously was only recording off of an antenna with about 6 channels. Now I have cable and antenna and a ton of channels... but just a trickle on the suggestions.

Call for PlexTivo testers

Forum member "ntlord" has been developing a Plex Media Server client for series 4 or later TiVos and TiVo Minis called PlexTivo. Eventually the application may be submitted to Opera TV for formal integration so easily accessible to everyone, or some other means of launching it more easily. For now though, you have to sign up to be an Opera developer (not much to it) in order to gain access to running it from your own computer.

If you would like to help out testing PlexTivo, I've posted some instructions on how to get it going in this post:

http://ift.tt/VVOxna

If you do test and want to provide feedback please post in the above linked thread.

Tivo 11: EVALUATION SUBSCRIPTION

I just got a tivo premiere , and it has an evaluation sub on it. I would like to ask any one if there's a way to find out if it was a promotion giveaway or a retail unit. In afraid to call tivo and have them cancel it .

Any help would be great ..

Forever (new immortality show on ABC)

HuluPlus and ABC OnDemand have the pilot episode of the new show Forever available.

The pilot is 16x9 aspect ratio from HuluPlus, and 4x3 aspect ratio from ABC OnDemand (4x3 on my DirecTV DVR).

The main character is a 200-year-old man who doesn't know why he doesn't stay dead. He has died many times in many different and painful ways, but he always returns to life a few hours later.

Ioan Gruffuld, Alana de la Garza, and Judd Hirsch appear to be the main actors, based on the pilot.

I enjoyed this pilot a lot, enough to watch it a second time.

If you like scifi-ish mysteries, give it a try.

How does Tivo Desktop Plus work?

I wanted to try Tivo desktop plus, so I ordered it on Tivo.com about a week ago. At the time of checkout, it said it should be delivered in a few days.

A day later, I got an email from tivo that includes a Tivo Desktop Plus license key. The installation instructions say:

"To use your purchased license key(s):

TiVo Desktop software for PC

Step2: Open the TiVo Desktop software and select "Upgrade to Desktop Plus" from the

"Help" menu. Enter the license key provided above and enjoy."

I was expecting to receive either a download link, or an installation disc in the mail. I have no Tivo desktop software from which to "upgrade".

Keep SD Channels ??

This may be a silly question, but is there any practical or logistical reason to keep my SD Channels active in my TiVo if all I ever watch are the High Def Channesl? Pros? Cons?

Thanks for any advice.

Best price for roamio plus w/lifetime-- labor day sale?

Hi. I am new here. I am new to tivo actually.

I am looking into buying my first tivo. I want to get the Roamio Plus w/ lifetime but its proving to be quite the investment.

I see a few different codes and methods to getting the best price so I was wondering what a good price to aim for would be.

I wanted to know if anyone knows if they are offering a labor day sale?

I have an old tivo someone gave me (2nd generation they said). I was wondering if calling about activating it would get me a better price?

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

Connect Roamio to sound bar?

My old Series III TiVo had fittings which allowed me to use RCA type plugs to connect sound to a COBY sound bar without using a receiver. My old Tivo died last week, and I bought a new Roamio.

Alas, there aren't any fittings on the new unit which allow connecting to an auxiliary sound bar. Has anyone dealt with this problem, or has anyone a suggestion for a workaround?

Roamio arriving wednesday and I have Time Warner, do I need a tuning adapter?

When I called and ordered the CableCard from Time Warner I knew nothing about them so I didn't know to ask for a tuning adapter and they didn't say anything about it. Only reason I know about the tuning adapter is a I Googled Roamio and TWC and what I read mentioned the tuning adapter. Do I need to call back and tell them to make sure they include a tuning adapter? I live in NE Ohio (Dover, OH to be specific).

PyTivo Not working

My pytivo was working just fine then I changed my cable modem(was not DOCSIS 3.0) and WiFi router. I got a all in one. Motorola/Arris Surfboard Modem & Wi-Fi router with MoCA support Model#SBG6782. I do use MoCA so this was the big draw for me. I now no longer need to have 4 devices all plugged in. I get it all in one nice package. Anybody have any idea what I might need to do to get my PyTivo working again?

Horrible Pixelation with Verizon Fios since early July 2014

So I live in massachusetts and have already placed 1 call to Fios where they told me that they see the problem and are fixing it...They then contacted me and said it was fixed..and it barely was. Still RS corrected but very few uncorrected....Now we are into the uncountable errors and multiple channels won't even tune in the 600's (HD) and even the basic HD is a mess...

Anyone else with fios Massachusetts having this issue lately?

I am going to call tomorrow...

Please help get Netflix updated for HD

I have two Tivo HD units in my house that work great, but there is a problem when watching Netflix. You do not get the Who's Watching request when you start it up. This feature allows family members to each have their own favorite shows saved. Without this everyone's favorites have to go into the queue of the main account holder, me.

Tivo support told me that the only way the Netflix app would be updated is if it were requested by enough people. They had me fill out a form at:

http://ift.tt/1vvF31f

(If you don't want to use a link from a forum you could just google "suggest a TiVo feature" and the top link will get you there as well after going through their old research page.)

So, if any of you have a couple minutes, please help out us Tivo HD owners and fill out that suggestion page to have the Tivo HD units get an updated Netflix app to give access to the Who's Watching feature. Even if you don't have one yourself, the request could help all of us that do!

"ABC World News" new SP needed starting Sept 2

ABC World News With Diane Sawyer is changing to ABC World News With David Muir effective Tuesday, September 7. You may need to update your Season passes, especially if you are using an older model TiVo or a non-TiVo DVR.

Search results not filtering unselected channels

After the latest update, my search results from a wishlist search show EVERY channel that show is on...even channels that I have unselected in my channel list. I only select HD channels in my channel list. So if I search for a show that is on CBS, the results show channel 10, 58, 170 and 1010. This in itself isn't so bad, but when I search for something a little more general like "NASCAR Racing", Instead of having to select from 2 or 3 channels to find what I want, I may have 4 or 5 times as many to sort through to find what I want. This did NOT happen until the latest update. Before the update, the results were far more concise and didn't take nearly as long to sort through. I called TiVo and was told that "people wanted to see everything...even results for channels that aren't selected in the channel list". NOT ME! Interestingly enough, if I make that same search through the "search by title" instead of through a "wishlist" search, it only displays the channels I have selected in my Channel list.

Has anyone else seen this? I remember a trick about making all of your channels a "favorite" and filtering results to only show 'favorite' channels, but either that is no longer and option or I don't remember how to do it...

How long before Xfinity on Demand app appears on new Roamio?

I've had a Roamio Plus with a Mini for about a year. That Roamio Plus#1 got XOD one morning several months ago and so did the Mini.

I just bought a new Roamio plus and moved the Mini to Roamio#2 as the host. There is no XOD app showing on either the Roamio#2 and it has disappeared from the Mini. Any idea how long before the XOD shows up? Everything else is working perfectly

Log for why tivo reboots

Good Evening All,

I have been a proud Tivo owner many years and I enjoy them a lot. The one I wish I had was a way to find out why my Tivo rebooted. Was it an update or is there an issue like a failng HD or Power Supply. I have had a few HD failures along the way and lost 100s of hours of programs.

Is there a way to find out why a tivo rebooted.

Thank you,

Mini can't find a tuner?

I've got 2 Tivo Premier XL 4 units with the latest update, along with 2 Tivo Mini's with the latest update.

I believe they have the dynamic tuner allocation now.

Last night was the first time I've run into this.

Mini-1 -> Tivo Living Room

Mini-2 -> tivo Bedroom

Tivo Living room was recording 3 shows, so it should have a free tuner, yes?

When to Mini-1 clicked Live TV, and it gave me an error stating there were no free tuners and did I want to watch a recording

????

I could've sworn that somewhere in the Tivo Premiere there used to be a setting for how many tuners could be reserved or something, but maybe that went away with the dynamic tuning allocation because I couldn't find it.

Further, the Mini-2 is in the basement and is rarely used, so I can't imagine it would grab a tuner (hasn't been used in WEEKS) for that long and even if it did, it should've grabbed the other Tuner.

Is there a way to tell which tuners are used for what from the main Tivo?

display channel number on screen

I have a series 4 Premier TIVO.

I would like to have the channel display on the screen at all times when watching live TV.

Is this possible?

Thanks

Lewis

Sold my S3 OLED / S3 HD today

Well, after months of procrastination, I finally put my two old S3 TiVo's on craigslist yesterday for $200 each (Separate adds) and I guy called me this morning wanting to buy both of them. We met at a local restaurant and the deal is done.

It really goes to the value of the lifetime service that I can still get $200 for a two generation old product.

I am pretty happy at this point - I always keep the boxes and all the packing materials, helps present a product that has been well maintained.

Channels all gone black

All of them. I use TWC. I have done a hard reset, did the guided setup again, soft reboot, nothing is working. There is no outage in my area that I can tell.

My tuning adapter is plugged in and seems to be working but my Tivo doesn't show it as being connected. I've tried to reset it and the channels won't come back. I'm wondering if I should exchange it for a different adapter.

Not getting channels on guide from 550 - 600's

Have a new Tivo Roamio and I can see the channels 550 - 690 if I go to one but the Guide does not show anything for those channels so I am unable to move my Season Passes over from my old box and I can't recorded any programs on those stations in advance.

I am using a cable card from Verizon.

Big Brother - 8/28/14- Eviction Night

No surprise to see Donny go.

I loved the look on Frankie's face once Julie denied his "apple pie" request. Not that I really blame Frankie for not going along with Donny's idea, it's just that the "play" was a terrible idea.

And I kinda hate when they do endurance comps because we have to wait so long to find out the winners. :( Not that big of a deal though.

But seeing Donny get so upset at the end was very sad. I feel bad for him. Looks like he really felt like an outcast while in the house. :(

Now it's just about time for the Detonators to detonate!

CableCard in Premiere on Grande ?

(Admins - I'm aware there is an Official Grande Communications Cable Card Thread under the Series 3 Forum. It's not very active; maybe here is a better place ?)

I have Grande Communications analog cable in Austin and own a Tivo Premiere. Last weekend, I picked up a Cablecard from Grande. I installed it and went through the setup over the phone, trying several times.

The card shows "Authorization Received" (Host ID Screen), but remains "Not Staged" (CA Screen), showing only basic cable channels. We had THREE helpful, friendy service visits this week. The techs brought several other cards, but the situation remains the same.

One of the techs suspected my video splitter board and bypassed it, raising the signal strength, but that did make the card work. We have 73/74% signal strength, 34 dB SNR.

During several support calls before the service visits, the phone support people asked for the Card's Data ID, but the Host ID screen does not show one. One of the phone reps kept calling the card a "Motorola Card" while the card itself and the Menus indicate it's a Cisco card. One of the phone reps told me I had two cards, while I did actually have only one. These two details have me suspecting that maybe the setup process on Grande's side expects a different type of Card.

The visiting techs were friendly and on time, but did not seem particularly familiar with cable cards.

If anyone has gotten a Grandecom Cablecard to work with a Tivo Premiere recently, I'd love to hear about the experience. Any secret steps to take, secret numbers to call ?

Thank you.

7 Deadly Sins (Morgan Spurlock)

7 Deadly Sins is another new documentary style series from film maker and tv personality Morgan Spurlock, this time on Showtime on Thursday evenings. Each 30 minute episode has three or so segments focusing on various people who are indulging in some way in one of seven deadly sins from Christian theology-gluttony, sloth, greed, lust, envy, pride, wrath.

This series has a different style from most of Spurlock's other shows, looking more like shot-on-film vignettes featuring real people acting out their bad impulses than a reality style video documentary. Spurlock narrates the segment intros while the real people involved in these negative activities speak for themselves on camera.

For example in the Wrath episode, they feature a women who has a web site who names and shames "home wreckers" or women who sleep with married men; there's a segment on a 'fight club' at a motorcycle club house in Oakland, California where men and women box in a ring to get their aggression out; and a segment on a manufacturer of a special type of firearm ammunition which splits up into fragments as it is fired to cause maximum damage to the target. I think it's pretty interesting for a short series.

What is your favorite running joke in a tv show?

What is your favorite running joke in a tv show?

Mini stuck in guided setup after loss of DVR

Like many others here the past year our Mini has worked acceptably (I say so because at least once a week it crashes and requires a reboot). A few days back the Mini decided that it couldn't contact the DVR or internet.

NO changes were made to our home network, no power outages, no additional network devices, nothing.

Internet- bogus message as the unit had no problems connecting to the Tivo service.

Two days ago it was possible to manually go into the menus and select the Roamio DVR. Yesterday the Mini again claimed it lost the DVR. This time however the Roamio is listed but with a red circle.

The entire network chain of hardware has been reset. The Roamio has been restarted and connected to the Tivo service. The Mini was reset/powered off and on. At the advice of posts here I restarted guided setup on the Mini.

Now the Mini is stuck in guided setup loop, refusing to proceed or quit due to its inability to see a DVR. The network is live and working as I can see the Mini. There are no problems on the network for the rest of the house.

What course of action is recommended aside from putting the Mini in the bay and discontinuing my Tivo subscription?

What if ... the Mini had a Blu-Ray player?

(My apologies if this topic has come up before ...)

Is it just me, or does the concept of the TiVo Mini almost beg for the inclusion of a Blu-Ray player? The Mini already has a great footprint when compared to main TiVo units and other A/V equipment. If someone was considering a Mini for additional TVs in the home, having a Blu-Ray capability built into the Mini would make it the perfect companion. I'd assume that most of the processing hardware is already in place, and there would only be a need for an inch or two of additional height for the drive itself. There would almost be no need for any other components other than the TV and whatever surround audio solution is put in the room.

Just curious ...

-SUO, can't speak on the "execution" of the Mini in its current form

N13 Error code

Most of the N13 codes on this forum are many years old.

I'm getting this error when trying to update guide info.

Series3

Software ver: 11.0m-01-2-652

This Tivo is connected to local lan which has another Series 3 tivo on it. Problem-Tivo can connect to Working-Tivo and even transfer shows. Roku on same network works no problem. Working-Tivo works fine, connects to Tivo service and has updated guide.

Based on this, I'm assuming that my router is setup ok since the Working-Tivo connects just fine. I'm assuming that I can ignore the tivo.com support suggestion of "waiting a few minutes and try connecting again."

Any thoughts on how I might fix this, or find a work around to get the Problem-Tivo box's guide updated?

Thanks.

Moving from Series3/HD to Roamio with Comcast

I'm not sure if this is the correct sub-forum for this question, so mods, please move it as appropriate...

I saw in this article that Comcast is beginning the move to MPEG4-HD. The article also states that the Series 3/HD TiVo's hardware is not capable of supporting MPEG4-HD.

Soooo... I'm thinking of moving to a Roamio in the short- to mid-term future. My Series 3/HD TiVo has been a most reliable unit for a number of years, so I'm not complaining about having to transition to the current TiVo hardware.

My questions are:

What's the process for moving from one TiVo to another? Do I just remove the cable card from the Series3/HD and put it into the Roamio, and everyone is happy? Do I need a Comcast tech visit?

I see on the tivo.com website that I can move Season Passes, ToDo lists, recorded shows, etc. from one TiVo to another via that website, so that's not a concern at this point.

I am really concerned about the interactions with Comcast and the cable card, and whether the Roamio will continue to record shows as scheduled.

International streaming/download?

I live in the US but have a few long business trips to Germany coming up in the next few months. The advertising for the TiVo Stream or Roamio Plus seem to indicate that I could watch shows on my iPad from anywhere in the world.

Has anyone tried this? We have a Premiere that is working just fine so my main reason for upgrading would be to get this feature. I would love to have a confirmation that it will work before shelling out for it.

Typically I can't stream any shows through Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, etc. when I am in Germany, so if I could set up to record shows at home and then get them from Germany that would be fantastic! CNN and BBC get pretty old after a while in my hotel room :)

Diagnosing "lightning damage"

I have a Series 3 652... Tivo in a vacation property and was just notified that a recent lightning strike likely fried my Tivo. I am going down in a few days and am looking for suggestions on how to diagnose/determine the damage. The unit has a cable card and is connected to a tuning adapter. I upgraded the HD to 1TB and will be taking the original 160 gb drive with me. I also replaced the power supply and will be taking the original which may not have been bad. Any suggestions on how/where I start to rule out damage to cable card/tuning adapter/hard drive/power supply? Maybe another way to put it is there some way to test/confirm if the motherboard is toast? Thanks for any suggestions.

Extant "A Pack of Cards" (8/27/14) [SPOILERS!]

Well, this space baby ain't no kid-friendly E.T. More like the Xenomorphs on LV-426.

Or the Vampires in Lifeforce.

And it wants its momma.

I say they nuke it from orbit. [Shrug] It's the only way to be sure.

One of the POV shots gave me a "It Came From Outer Space" vibe.

Charter New Lineup Change No Tivo Guide Info

Charter sent me something a while back which said the new channel lineup was effective August 5, 2014. Yet only a week ago I lost 3 channels, so I scheduled a service call but then realized the lineup change and found the missing content on the new channels.

However, I can't get any guide info for these channels, yet this info still shows up on the old channels. I've tried connecting to the Tivo service a few times with no change, even ran the guided setup. This is going to mess up my season passes!

UPDATE: Ran the guided setup one more time and now it worked.

Apps for major Networks...

One of the main things missing from Tivo is the on-demand functionality is basically gone for most providers with the exception of that X-finity thing with ComCast... I wish Tivo would add Apps for the major networks so that we would be able to watch at least those shows... Maybe an App for:

ABC

NBC

CBS

FOX

CW

This way we could stream the latest or older episodes of Scandal or Arrow if we were thinking of about watching it.. Maybe we were on the fence to record some particular show but only found out later on that it was good.. This way, we could launch that App for that TV network and watch the older episodes..

Streaming Issues

So I have a Roamio Base and a Mini, I can stream live tv but not recordings. Everything else works fine on both boxes. I've tried the various reboot scenarios, connect to the service at least 30 times on each box, renamed each box to simple names (roamio, mini). I've unplugged everything from the modem/router to the mini and reconnected in order (modem/router, roamio, mini). I've even tried the reselect host dvr. No matter what I do, I can't stream recorded shows. When I go into the help for whole home on the roamio, it shows that streaming recorded shows is not supported for either box, evrything else is supported. On the mini it shows that streaming for live and recorded is supported. I'm at my wits end and like usual "tech" support was useless, suggesting I just wait a couple of days to see if it sorts itself out.

Thanks for any help,

Ed

P.S. the mini is only about 28 days old and everything worked fine from day 1 until this last monday morning (25th) when it just stopped working after a reboot everything worked except streaming of recordings.

Error V53 - OTA, Channel 24.1 Toledo, OH

My device is a TiVo Series4 SoftwareVersion 20.4.2-01-2-746

I have been having a V53 error on one channel constantly for approx 3 weeks, prior to that, no problems at all.

My signal is an Over The Air antenna.

My signal strength on the channel is about 78-81%

My SNR on the channel is 30dB (about the same on all channels)

Diagnostics say Signal Lock YES, Program Lock NO.

Every other TV in the house (without TiVo) tunes the channel in without issue.

I have had NO other problems on any other channels. Or with any other TV in the house. I am 99% sure the problem is with the TiVo box and its programming.

What can i try to resolve this issue?

Have Tried: Restarting, rebooting, powering off, blowing out the box, unplugging everything from the back - 24.1 still won't tune.

Replacing splitter from the outdoor antenna - 24.1 still won't tune

Using a good indoor antenna hooked directly into the box -24.1 still won't tune

So that leaves, the TV station, and the TiVo box... Unless there's something i'm missing?

Mike

Last Ditch Help

So we bought a TIVO and three mini's about 6 months ago, love it worked great for the first 6 months. Then one morning we were getting bad micro blocking some if the channels with some being unwatchable(lots of RS uncorrected and Corrected errors). Moved the TIVO to the basement to remove a long cable run, was better but still not normal.

Called Comcast and had them come out to check the signal and they said it was fine. Tried a different CableCard(I knew it worked, pulled it from a MediaCenter PC), still no go.

Called TIVO and they sent out a replacement, same thing .

Called Comcast, sent out another tech, he replaced all the ends on the coax and ran a new drop to our house. Still no improvement.

Signal strength is low on the channels that dont work, right around 80% and SNR is 30-32, we have an amp from Comcast that just feeds the TIVO.

We also have a Comcast DVR and a MediaCenter PC with a CableCard and they both work fine. The MediaCenter with no amp has a SNR of arounf 36-37 which is the same as what the Comcast tech says his equipment says.

Not sure why the TIVO is so much lower. Just at my wits end, don't know what to do or how to even get it fixed. Could the replacement TIVO be bad also?? Or is it really a Comcast problem? At this point it would have to be a main line or something but with the other stuff working not sure I could Convence Comcast of that.

Anyone have any suggestions? We have spent a bunch of money and if I can't get it working soon I am going to have to sell it all and get something else. :(

Selfies: Pilot streaming on ABC app

Got an update to the ABC app on my Android tablet last night so I browsed the content and noticed that Seflies pilot is streaming. I watched a few minutes of it. If you are into social networking, you might like it, but from the 10 minutes I saw, it seemed unfunny and rather dumb. In the first 10 minutes they must have mentioned a half a dozen different social networks. I remember hearing, Twitter and Instagram for sure. I know there were others. I know I'm not the target audience as it appears to be targeted at teen and 20 something girls/women.

How to make virgin image of hard drive

I'd like to do a complete reset of an S3 HD TiVo to virgin configuration then make a SApper-compatible image. How is this done?

Comcast VOD freezing, reboot temporarily fixes issue

Any ideas on why a simple roamio reboot fixes the 5 second freeze? The thing is after a while I will have the same issue, once I do another reboot all is fine for another timeframe. Sometimes days or longer (the timeframe between issues may be off as I don

Bypassing the tivo and capturing tv on a capture card...

so I plug rca cables into my video/audio out on my tivo premiere xl4 then into my capture device would my bitrate be the same as if tivo captured that show? or would it be "buffered" I tested it on a few shows and I recorded some of this mornings news using huffyav and my bitrate was off the charts like 24-29Mbps. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is 24-29Mbps the "real" bitrate? or is it limited to whatever my tivo can capture?

Big Brother - Veto - 8/27/14

Dummies. Cody is going to be bummed when Victoria gets $50k for doing absolutely nothing after he does everything Derrick tells him to do. I do get that they want to keep the numbers - but I'm so with Cody, Frankie and Christine simply aren't to be trusted. They'll put Cody up first chance. Well, who knows. It's got to be crazy trying to plan ahead when someone is in your ear, and doing such a good job.

;)

And where do I go to vote No! ?

That play was horrid. I never vote. Sure wish I could vote for Donny to get $5k, and Derrick to get $2500. None for Frankie. I no longer care much for him, and this wasn't even a well thought out idea.

Can I get OTA through basic cable?

I just upgraded from a Series 2 to a Premiere with an antenna input. I have basic cable that supplies OTA HD channels to my tv. Tivo folks told me that I have to connect an antenna if I want the Premiere to get the HD channels.

So I'm wondering, if my basic cable has the OTA channels, can I attach a splitter and plug my cable into the antenna input? Would the tivo box recognize the channels?

Roamio DVR and Non-HD TV?

I have had a Serie2 Single Tuner device since 2005. Recently, it has been freezing up and from researching the forums, it could likely be a hard drive issue - so, I'm thinking about upgrading to a Roamio. My non-HD tv is almost 20 years old and still in excellent shape, therefore I'm not currently interested in investing in a HD TV. Can Roamio be connected and be fully functional with a non-HD TV? Are any special cables going to be required?

Community forum has been an excellent resource of info for me over the years and i'm hoping to receive similarly excellent info with this inquiry -

thank in advance!!

No ability to add converter box

Hello folks,

I have a Series 2 Tivo with a Sansonic converter box that works fine. I also have a "backup" Tivo Series 2 (from craigslist) that won't allow me to add the Sansonic converter box. When I go to the channels menu it only asks if I am using the same "Cable" box not "Converter" box. My other Series 2 asks for "Converter" box. Is there a secret place within the menu system to change from "Cable" to "Converter"? Please help.

Thanks a lot.

No Guide Data for 3 channels

I have a cablecard with Comcast and about a month ago, I got HBO... I"m not getting a couple of the extra HBO channels + FXXHD guide data.

But, I am getting the normal HBOHD (415)

480 - HBO2H

481 - HBOZH

517 - FXXHD

Any ideas why???

Tivo has TV show as background all menus

Dear Tivo People,

I have basic Tivo Lifetime on an old Toshiba SD-H400. These are great little boxes with a DVD player built in. This box is one that I got for "backup" in case my Tivo Series 2 bites the dust. The weird thing is that the background is not the Tivo greenish screen with the little Tivo character in the top left. It shows the TV show with sound behind the menus. It shows through all the menus which makes them super hard to read. And when I try to do any settings changes, I can't even read the instructions. It would be great if I could set this to black or blue or some solid color so I could read the menus. Any Ideas?

Thanks

Why I'll never go to a movie theater again

This isn't exactly a Tivo topic, but since a lot of us watch movies via Tivos and other sources I figured it was something worth discussing so here goes.

I hadn't been to an actual theater in quite a while so I ducked out of work late one afternoon last week and went to see Guardians of the Galaxy at a local cineplex (really worth seeing, BTW). I got there about 15 minutes before showtime and figured I'd be sitting through the usual movie trivia stuff mixed in with previews and the usual movie pre-show fare. I stopped at the concession stand on the way in thinking I'd grab some popcorn and a soda to tide me over. One quick glance at the prices and I decided it wasn't such a good idea after all so I proceeded into the theater to grab a seat.

The time was mid-afternoon and the movie was in it's 3rd or 4th week so there was only one other person in the theater and I had my pick of just about any seat in the house. What I wasn't prepared for next just got me totally turned off to the movie theater experience. Instead of the usual movie trivia and other entertainment related shorts that I had been accustomed to seeing I was subjected to a solid 15 minutes of commercials trying to sell me crap. Had I paid for concessions on top of the movie ticket I probably would have thrown them at the screen and stormed out to the ticket stand demanding a full refund.

This kind of BS is totally unacceptable. I remembered that movie houses were showing a commercial or two during the pre-movie videos, but I never realized that they had switched over to them exclusively. I don't know if this is becoming common practice in all theaters, but considering it's an industry that seems to be suffering (or so they tell us), I can only see it hurting attendance rather than bringing more people into the theaters.

I, for one, am done with movie theaters. I've got a nice big screen TV in my home theater (60") and a surround system that's generally better than anything my local theaters can offer. I can make a fresh batch of popcorn and have a beer with it instead of a soda and it won't cost me $10. For the cost of a single senior/matinee ticket, a large soda and a bucket of popcorn, I can own the movie on Blu-Ray when it comes out so it simply makes no sense to subject myself to the high prices and commercials. I felt like the chicken (now it's the mad scientist) in the opening credits of Robot Chicken who's strapped to a chair and subjected to unwanted videos. Since most of use DVRs to skip commercials, I figured we should be able to do it in the theaters as well rather than pay extra and be forced to watch them.

Fox and CBS in San Francisco 8/28

Both the 49ers and Raiders have games this Thursday; the Raiders game is on KTVU, starting at 8 (and it has been confirmed that the game will not be blacked out), and the 49ers game is on KPIX, starting at 5, with a postgame show running from the end of the game until 9).

KICU will air the normal Fox programming (Sleepy Hollow and Bones) starting at 8.

The CBS 8-9 block (Two and a Half Men and The Millers) will air on KPIX at about 2:15 AM, following the CBS late night talk shows and KPIX's really late news.

If you live somewhere where you can get KOVR, they're showing the 49ers game as well; the new episode of Big Brother is listed as starting at 8, so you might want to pad it.

Lifetime TiVo S3 OLED / TiVo HD for sale

I have two S3 TiVo's both with lifetime service that I am going to put on ebay soon.

I have a TiVo S3 OLED (TCD648250) and a TiVo HD (TCD652160), both in great and shape and working.

If you are interested in either, shoot me an offer. I am going to try to get them listed on eBay this weekend if I have time, but would make a good deal if it saves me the trouble.

'Full House' Revival May Be in the Works

I never watched the original, but my daughters (especially the younger one) have really enjoyed it in reruns. They will be very glad to hear it may be coming back.

I won't break the news to them yet that most of these revivals, reimaginings, etc. usually suck. :)

Where to get a Roamio Plus Deal?

So I've decided to get the Roamio Plus, but I'm not in need of it right this minute (got to older models deployed and the family is used to them). Feels like I'm not in the "sweet spot" for a deal. Because the Roamio is not really the "new" thing, but it's not really at a reduced price either.

Are their sales from time to time? What's my best move if I'm willing to wait a month or two, and wouldn't mind saving a buck?

Tyrant S01E10 Gone Fishing

Not quite the excitement I was hoping for. Lots of meandering about, waiting for things to happen.

I knew when Jamal served that old dude the wine that things were about to go very bad for Basam and his merry band of traitors. I'm wondering how they're going to fix this next season.

I'm thinking either:

1) Jamal ends up needing Basam for something. Perhaps dealing with the sheik's son, or dealing with public unrest of some sort, or

2) Someone kills off Jamal

I'd rather it was #2 as Jamal irritates me, but I don't see anyone left capable of doing it. Maybe the CIA will intervene.

Moving to a New House

I'm moving to a new house in a few weeks. I currently have a TiVo Roamio Pro activated on Comcast.

I'm assuming when I move the TiVo to the new house I will have to re-activate the CableCARD correct? If so, my concern is will I be able to keep all the old recordings on the TiVo and/or be able to watch them at the new home?

Insight into TiVo through an "internal" presentation?

I don't know where to post this or of what value it might really be, but, I just came across this:

http://ift.tt/1zBYNhh

Seems to be an "internal" presentation on how they're onboarding MSOs and other jargon around various technologies they use. It mentions HME, anyhow ;]

(side note: very cool website... not free accounts, though)

I don't know if this was left "public" accidentally or not.

In case it gets locked up (TiVo is usually pretty close-to-the-vest on everything) here's the transcript text from it:

Roamio basic tcd846500 cable card?

Thinking of coming to tivo for OTA and possible cable card later...Can a cable card be added to the Roamio 4 tuner OTA.. I have a Seagate 3TB hard drive I use for directv with an external base w/esata would that work on Roamio external or internal?

Thanks for your info..

Using DECA on DirecTV Coax for Mini

I am currently a DirecTV subscriber and in the room with one of their mini players I also have a TiVo mini. Until now I have been using the dreaded Ethernet over Power adapters with good results, but today, the first time this mini was used since the summer update, it says the bandwidth is insufficient to stream. The two TiVos are on a gigabit Ethernet LAN as is the master EOP device.

My two TiVos are both Roamio basic, so no MOCA network exists.

There is one Genie and two HR24 receivers on the DECA network as well as the DirecTV mini in the room with the TiVo mini. The DECA is flawless as it exists.

The DirecTV player in the room has existing Internet connectivity via the typical DirecTV DECA network. I propose to split the DirecTV coax and add an additional DECA adapter in the room so the TiVo mini can use that over Ethernet to get a more reliable connection.

I am looking at this item.

Should work, right?

Tivo officially supports Comcast/TWC merger

http://ift.tt/1wtAru2

Tivo specifically points out that they have a strong relationship with Comcast and that the possibility of a post-CableCard solution will most likely come from a Tivo/Comcast partnership.

I can see how Tivo would benefit from the merger. Netflix also just came out in opposition of the merger. It seems everyone is starting to take sides.

Data usage with streaming from Roamio to ipad

I just purchased a new Roamio and have set up my iPad and iPhone to stream my reordered programs to them. Does anyone know how much data will be used for an hour of streaming?

Am I considered an existing customer and will get new Tivo service for just $10/m?

I have had a lifetime Sony DVR 90EA which I bought used about 5 years ago and am thinking about getting a Roamio. I can't afford lifetime but I do see that service is $15 for new customers and only $10 for existing. I have never paid a fee as I bought a lifetime unit so will I be eligible for the $10 service for the Roamio?

No familiar beeps for FF/REW on roamio?

I recently upgraded to a Roamio Plus from an old Series 2. I also have a Premier in another room. The Roamio has the sound effects volume set to medium and I easily hear it when I press certain buttons like select when in certain modes (I'd have to go take notes to see where it beeps and where it doesn't). When I press the FF and REW buttons, and then the Play button when in FF or REW mode, there are no beeps. I've been using TiVO since Series-1, and am now on my 5th unit, and they all provide the familiar badoop-badoop-badoop when pressing the FF button (once, twice, thrice). Now the Roamio doesn't do this and I can't find any setting to make it do it again!

Is this intentional, or is my unit defective? I haven't seen any other mentions of this sound effect being removed, so it seems maybe my unit is defective, but before I spend hours on the phone with tivo support I wanted to see if this is intentional behavior for the Roamio. Or maybe I'm missing the setting?

TiVo second quarter results are out

TiVo had a net loss of 20,000 retail subscriptions and a net gain of 283,000 MSO subscriptions. Total active retail subscriptions are down to 937,000 and total MSO subscriptions are up to 3,867,000.

Of the 937,000 active retail subscriptions, approximately 59% (556,000) are lifetime subs and 41% (381,000) are monthly subs.

The new TiVo Roamio OTA DVR

I hear that a new Roamio OTA DVR will be start being sold Sept 14th at Best Buy.

Guide Showing TBA for channel

Hey, long time lurker, just registered an account because I can't figure this out. Have a Roamio in one room and a Comcast cablebox in another (upgrading to Mini soon!). Comcast added SEC Network about 2 weeks ago and from day one, it has shown up on the Comcast box, with a guide, no problem.

On my Roamio, however, it shows up weird. I had to go in to Channel List and add the station manually (whenever I've gotten new stations before they automatically get added), and instead of a normal channel name in the listing like "SEC Network" or "MTV" it shows up as SEC_SEC_(some random letters and numbers), and has no channel logo or guide listings, it just says To Be Announced. The actual station itself displays no problem, its just the guide that's messed up.

I've tried manually connecting to the server but it doesn't pull in any info for it. My account is in good standing and all that. Its been almost two-weeks which is much longer than I've ever seen TiVo take to update channel listings, and all my other stations continue to get new data and updated guide info daily. Any idea what I can do on my end to rectify this? Thanks.

Comcast CableCard does not support 6 tuners

I have a new Roamio with 6 tuners. We have been getting "Channel Not Authorized" messages on many channels. A Comcast repair guy came last week and tested everything. Of course when he was here we did not get the "Channel Not Authorized" message. He was about to leave when I tried all the different turners by setting each to a different channel. We found that 4 worked fine and 2 did not. I was then able to search and found this page: http://ift.tt/1zzvkEG. It shows the firmware version needed to support 6 tuners. The cablecard installed had an older firmware version.

I was happy the problem was solved. I called today and they do not have any new cablecards and they don't know when any are coming in! So we know the issue, but there is no fix for it.

Does anyone know how I can get a newer cablecard from Comcast?

Incorrect channel listing in TiVo iPhone app

I'm a OTA user of a TiVo Roamio in the Chicago market. Recently, I've been seeing some very odd behavior with the TiVo app.

The CBS affiliate in Chicago is WBBM. WBBM-DT is broadcast on channel 12 with a virtual channel of 2. In the past, WBBM also ran a low-power translator on channel 26 under the callsign of WBBM-LD. Both channels are provided on the channel list of my TiVo. On the channel list I have selected and favorited WBBM-DT (channel 12) and left WBBM-LD as unselected.

With this setup, my TiVo is working perfectly.

Here's where things get weird: within my home network, my TiVo app only shows channel WBBM-LD. I cannot view listings or tune to WBBM-DT. If I leave my home network, the app works perfectly and WBBM-DT is available. Even stranger, if I change my TiVo's channel list to show both WBBM-DT and WBBM-LD, I get two WBBM-LD listings.

Has anyone else had an issue like this? Trading emails with TiVo tech support didn't get us anywhere...

Thanks in advance.

Today is the day that Time Warner rolled up their complete lineup change to the DFW/North Texas area.

TiVo is a total mess and doesn't seem to know about it. Hard to surf for channels up in areas where I never had channels. How long before the TiVo picks up all t the changes? Good thing that it's the dead of summer and I don't have much that gets recorded. Season Passes will be jacked up.

Bite this

Here's a show that many probably miss and I've taking a liking to. Bite This with Nadia G. I never watched her previous show, Bitchin Kitchen, in fact this is the first and only Cooking Channel show I watch. It's not instructional, think of it as a Anthony Bordain type show hosted by a crazy tated up hot chick with a french Canadian accent that almost sounds a bit Brooklynish and who occasionally lets slip that she's a sociopath. It does make me laugh! Makes Guy Fieri's Diner, Drive ins and Dives seem sad...well, Guy makes that one seem sad all on his own, truth be told.:D

Writing on the Roamio remote buttons

I bought the Roamio last year when it came out. After a year, the mute/info/zoom/input/back/live TV buttons have all been worn off. Is this normal for Tivo remotes? Is there a TiVO remote available that would not show the same kind of wear? I've never had a component remote wear out this quickly.

Problem with the ipad App

For the last several weeks, I've been experiencing a problem with my roamio and the ipad app.

When I'm away from my home network, and want to stream, very often, and randomly, the stream stops, and reports that there was an error with the stream. Sometimes I can restart, but it will last a few seconds only. This does not happen at home.

Incredibly, when I try to download the same program, the same thing happens on playback. An error occurs, and it can't be played.

Usually, when I try to stream something else, that works, but Audio and video are out of synch.

I've tried the usual suspects. Power down and restart everything, reinstall the app. Try a different venue with different wifi. Try a different iOS device.

This is really frustrating.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Using TiVo just for TimeShift?

Hi,

can I use second hand TiVo series 2 just as TimeShifting device?

I live in Europe and can't find anything cheap and good as TiVo, so I considered buying and using second-hand TiVo series 2 from ebay.

Could I connect my SAT receiver via analog(RCA) connection to TiVo, and than from TiVo to TV? Would that stuff work?

Basically I just need device that can pause video from RCA input, nothing more, no recording, no tv guide and etc. It this plausible with TiVo?

And if answer is yes, what model do you suggest?

Expander drive

I've read so much about expander drives causing crashes, which mine is doing, but can I just stick my 1TB drive into the unit replacing the 160 GB drive?

Tivo no longer transfers back full recordings

Transfers go fine from TiVo to TiVo desktop, but when I transfer them back to TiVo, it only sends back about 2/3 of the show and calls it a partial recording. I tried rebooting the TiVo, restarting TiVo desktop, nothing. How can I fix this?

Sorry for being such a schmuck lately

Just wanted to say sorry for such argumentative posts lately - I am generally a pretty easy going guy. I am Just in kind of a mood lately I guess.

That and two topics that just get my temperature rising kind of got me going! :)

Screen savers and 4k for those of you that haven't noticed. Anyway, I will tone down a little.

Video tearing and artifacts on Verizon fios

I have intermittent video tearing on my Roamio Plus connected to Verizon fios.

How do I debug this to figure out whether it is the AV equipment, cabling or the tivo.

Thanks!

66th Prime Time Emmy Awards [2014] - LIVE with spoilers

It's Monday. And the Emmy awards are on.

I think Seth did a pretty job with the opening monologue. Let's see who wins awards. One already awarded.

$0 down Roamio?

Got this in my email this morning. Links do not work, also unable to find on TiVo's website. Is this over already?

Should I even bother watching? (NO SPOILERS, PLEASE!)

I have been recording 3 shows that I haven't watched yet - they are:

Extant

The Strain

The Lottery

Should I even bother?

Audio

I am at a loss... I have had my TiVo for a few years and it works fine but the other day one station, channel 2 has no audio. This is when watching live or recorded programing. All other stations are fine. Any suggestions? Thanking you in advance, Penney

Quick thread start. Time flies in this episode! :)

Multiroom transfer broken by 20.4.2 update

The setup is a Series3 HD and a Premier. Since the Premier was updated to 20.4.2 I can no longer transfer recordings from the Premier to the Series3. The Series3 does not find the Premier.

The Premier finds the Series3 just fine. Tivo desktop can find both from a laptop and from a desktop. Both DVRs connect to Tivo Service without problem. The network status on both DVRs shows signal strength in excess of 90%.

All of the trouble shooting steps from Tivo and all of the other superstitions suggested have been tried many, many times. The 20.4.2 Prenier update prevents the Series3 from connecting to the Premier!

Is there any way to backout the update and return the Premier to a working DVR?

Recording Will Transfer As Soon As Possible

Running a Premiere Elite with the latest update, and Desktop Plus (2.8.2) on a Windows 7 PC. They are connected by a wired network connection.

I placed a video (WMV format) in the My TiVo Recordings folder on my PC. I then went to the TiVo, selected the PC and could see the video title. Selected it to transfer to the TiVo. Checked a couple hours later and the video is not showing in My Shows. Went back to Devices and clicked on the video, then hit the Info button. The message says "This recording will start transferring as soon as possible". This was on Friday night.

As of last night (Sunday), it still shows the same status. Based on what I've seen in other threads, I've power-cycled the PC, TiVo and router. I just did a test and transferred a show from the TiVo to the PC and it worked fine, but the video going from the PC to the TiVo still shows the will-start-ASAP message.

Am I missing something obvious here?

Multiple programs, one channel

I think I know how Tivo handles this, but I'm not sure. Sunday nights are when my DVR is the busiest. I record The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, and Once Upon a Time. Because of football, I always have the FOX shows record an extra 3 hours. On Directv, this setup would have only used 2 tuners (Even with all the FOX shows recording, even when The Cleveland Show and American Dad were on too), leaving my DVR free to record 3 different channels. On Tivo, this is going to use all 4 tuners, correct? So if something else moves to Sunday night, I'm screwed?

Tivo Romaio OTA

Cost: $50

Monthly: $15 - The catch, there's no "lifetime" option.

Big Brother - 8/24/14

You know the season sucks when every time you come on TCF the next day, nobody has bothered to start an episode thread yet. :)

This may have been the most boring and predictable episode thus far. Once Donny lost the HoH competition, I came very close to turning off the show and deleting the episode. It turns out, I should have. The red herrings were ridiculous, and the forced diary room comments were a joke. Nobody in their right mind thought for a second that Cody was going to put up anybody but Nicole and Donny.

HDMI switch that can be used with Tivo remote?

I am using Premiere with and old Sony TV with only 1 HDMI port. I am now adding an XBOX so I will need 2 HDMI ports.

Is there any HDMI switch out there that I could program with the Tivo remote?

I would like to use the Tivo remote and point at the HDMI switch so I change inputs back and forth from the 2 HDMI sources. (Premiere, XBOX).

I want to keep using the standard Tivo remote and don't want to switch to the learning remote.

Please let me know if you can suggest model. Thanks.

OTA only Tivo on the way

Looks like there will be a Tivo for OTA only. Limited edition.

Series 2 TiVo-IR Control of "broadcast" DTA converter

I have two Series 2 TiVos. I have discontinued cable TV service. I live in the New York City metropolitan area. We have *many* different TV stations, all broadcasting in digital TV format. I have two, fully functional "DIGITALSTREAM" DTX9900 Digital to Analog Converter boxes. I have connected these converters to the TiVos, and can record "manually".

TiVo does not offer an identified IR command code set for this product (box). so I cannot get the connected TiVo to change channels on the converter box.

I contacted TiVo and requested creation of an IR code set for this product, and offered to send the details of the box's IR command set.

TiVo representative "bailed" (that is, demurred) and referred me to this forum.

This lack of support is depressing and annoying.

It appears that TiVo has stopped actively supporting their Series 2 products. I also note the loss of the "universal swivel search" function. When I queried their tech support on this issue, they said, in effect, "we'll get back to you. . ." They never did.

Feature: Apple Homekit

I would like to see Tivo, including its guide service, to be integrated with Apple Homekit. For example, use Siri to schedule or change recordings and to see when shows are airing. It would also be nice to ask Siri, "what is recorded" or "what is scheduled to record today" "add season pass". Etc.

This would help add TiVo to the category of Home Automation products and further set it apart in the market.

tivo mini hardware update?

I was in Best Buy today and saw a tivo mini in a light lime green box. Is that a new hardware revision for the tivo mini?

You're the Worst (season 1 thread) SPOILERS

Is anyone else watching this? I'm loving this show. It reminds me a lot of Happy Endings, which I also loved. FX doesn't seem to have done much in the way of promotion; I'd never heard of it until someone mentioned it on my G+ feed last week.

If you're not watching and you enjoy a good sitcom, give it a try...

The Leftovers "The Garveys at Their Best" 8/24/2014

Man I love this show..

True Blood 8/24/2014 (S07E10) "Thank You"

HBO's Dexter?

Maybe not that bad; that was inept... this was just sort of a whimpering uninspired last meal.

I even felt like there were a couple opportunities for redemption -- like Sookie making Bill human with her light.

But I'll fall back to a complaint I made some time back -- the show-runners made a huge error when they went in a direction different from the books; they just had no direction in mind, and meandered off into who-cares-land.

The Last Ship "No Place Like Home" (8/24/14) [SPOILERS!]

Aw, hell, I hope this doesn't morph into another Revolution next season.

Aw, hell, almost a year until we find out.

Soylent Green?

(Yeah, I know they're not eating them, but still).

Bay Area Earthquake disruptions

Starting a thread so people can post information about repeats of shows that got knocked off the air for earthquake coverage (if any).

The LLWS Championship game got shifted to one of KGO's subchannels.

Stage 7 of the US Pro Cycling challenge started on CSNBC this morning, and then the coverage switched over to NBC, which is of course all earthquake coverage. Unlike KGO, which said something at the top of the hour directing viewers to the subchannel where they had moved the baseball game, NBC has said nothing, and the crawler has only earthquake news.

TWC and Roamio basic issue

sorry in advance if this issue has been posted again and again. but I need folks who can understand my frustration and maybe help with my issues.

I been using TIVO since it first came out in 2000. I am on my 4th Tivo which is the Roamio basic. I love TiVo and really cannot imagine watching TV without it....I used it for 15 years. But as of now, i have cut TIVO off because TWC cannot get it to work. I am using regular cable box right now for the time being.

I am in the South Pasadena CA area. I moved here in 2010, had a TIVO HD then. TWC came out with the TA and it worked but every once in a while I would experience missing channels....it was easy fix then, i just pull the usb cable from TA, plug it back it in and let it search for the signal.

I upgraded to Roamio basic this past February and this is when the missing channels got bad. Every 4 to 6 weeks, channels would drop, they would pair the cable card again and it worked fine until the next time it drops.

3 weeks ago it really got bad because all the channels dropped except the OTA ones.....TWC cannot get it to work, we changed TA, cable card, line test both outside on the street and in my house.....they finally blamed it on Roamio. After 3 weeks, i gave in, TWC installed cable box and TV is working now.

my issues are different from others because it has been working for the past 5 years so what changed? some on the forum said Roamio Plus will fix the problem but I used Roamio basic for 6 month, it was working.

I would like to get Tivo Roamio working again. Appreciate if you guys can help with a solution.

Expand 3TB drive to 2TB (for use in HD)?

I am trying to press a 3TB drive into temporary service in a TivoHD until I can get my hands on a more suitable replacement. I realize the system won't recognize the full capacity of the drive, but I'm hoping to use as much of it as I can. I've got a backup of the original 160GB image I made with WinMFS that I'm using as my starting point.

However, I can't figure out a way to tell any of the tools I'm familiar with (WinMFS, MFSLive, jmfs) to create a larger partition at the end. I can limit the image to 1TB with WinMFS, or expand it all the way to 3TB, but don't know of any way to stop in the middle.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a tool or command option I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

Roamio transfer recording failed - no Blue Download Transfer Light

My Roamio Pro (bought in July '14) has stopped doing recording downloads from an S3, HD XL, an HD. Until yesterday, it performed reliable and complete downloads in which multiple recordings could be queued to achieve a successful outcome. The Roamio SW version is 20.4.2-USA-6-840. These Tivo's are connected together in a wired and wireless network with several switches and the Netgear N900 router. Although the Roamio cannot now perform recording downloads; the HD XL, HD, and S3 can download from the Roamio, or between themselves without a problem.

The problem first started yesterday when I was about to download several shows from the networked S3. The first indication of a problem was a message saying there had been a network problem resulting in the S3 My Shows folder not being visible on the Roamio. On a retry, the folder was visible and allowed the show recordings to be selected, and to go through the motions of enabling the actual transfer. However, even though the Roamio went through all the steps to make a transfer, the recording never showed up in the My Shows folder and the Blue transfer downloading LED (next to the red recording light) never illuminated indicating a transfer from another TiVo box.

BTW, TTG can pull shows from the Roamio with no problem with a data rate of about 54 to 60 Mbps over the wireless connection, or any other Tivo box.

Also, when I now try to download a recording to the Roamio, it goes through the motions of setting up the transfer, by and concludes by providing the message that the recording will be queued to other previous recordings. Nothing shows up in the My Shows folder.

From the interactions between the other Tivos, and between themselves, it appears the network is sound and working properly. The Roamio can connect to the Tivo service without problems. The Roamio can also connect to view to photos I have stored on my Mac computer.

1). How can I fix this problem to allow the Roamio to resume reliable recording downloads from my other Tivos?

2). If the downloading queue has become corrupted, how can I unclog the queue?

Houdini

Not quite a series but History has Houdini part 1 on Sept 1st and Part 2 Sept 2nd. Our guide data (and even TIVO online) only shows Part 1. Not sure when it will be correct for PART 2, but online guides like TitanTV have it correct that Part 2 is 6 to 7:30 on the West Coast. Not sure just why our guides are not updated yet!

dvr software commissioned?

i was wondering is the software writing commissioned meaning 1 entity writes everyone's software so if a bug happens in the tivo software then the bug shows up in the cable co dvr witch usually is motorola or pace?.

i suspect this since coming from cable co rentals i had bad experience and now i am seeing the same bugs showing in tivo.

does the box download software from the cable co when the cable card is installed explaining some bugs too?

White Remote

Saw a white face Tivo remote with Tivo for sale on ebay, never saw one before. Searching here found out about it http://ift.tt/1mF0Nj8 do they still make these? I never use Tivo remote myself but my mom does, I recently got her one of the premier remotes because was easier to see than S2 one, the white would be even better.

Made a VB.NET streaming app, want to TiVo-ify it.

Hey all, I developed a Windows app in VB.NET that streams videos from a popular website. I'd like to know how easy or hard this would be to make a TiVo app from it. I've already skimmed the SDK/APIs and it doesn't seem that involved. Heck, I may even outsource it.

Thanks in advance!

New Mini on Order ---Old one not connecting??

Hi all ----

I ordered a new TiVo Mini from TiVo on Thursday. I currently have one on my existing setup.

Today, when I went to access the Current Mini with the TiVo iOS App it's not showing any shows or upcoming recordings. I did log on to my TiVo.com account and see both the existing TiVo Mini and the new one that just shipped.

Is this a coincidence?

Tivo with 40GB Drive and Network card

Title says it all, VM installed the new one yesterday so this is completely redundant and has been in the loft too long.

Comes with original 40GB drive, and network card, I don't remember if the network card drivers are installed as I had a bigger disk in it that I know was networked, and I then re-used it elsewhere (remember when 240GB were big), but that's an easy job to do.

Located in Harlow Essex, Free to a collector postage I guess My Hermes at cost.

Comes boxed with manuals, remote and blaster leads, only think it may not have is the figure 8 powerlead as like the hard disk it got used elsewhere. (probably the DVD player..)

Salvaging from dead Tivo?

I have a Series 2 Tivo that died a while back.

It was freezing in live viewing all the time, then died completely one day.

Is there any way of hooking up the two hard drives to a Mac to possibly salvage any of the video on the drives?

Thanks...

Wishlist including results from unavailable channels?

I'm having a problem with wishlists. I have some set up to find recent movies using the keywords 2014, 2013, etc. Previously I subscribed to all of the premium channels, and it was a great way to get a quick list of upcoming new-ish movies.

About a month ago, though, I unsubscribed from all of the premium channels except HBO. However, now when I look at the Upcoming list for one of my wishlists, it includes matches for channels I no longer get. In the list it shows many movies along with the date and time, but no channel. At the bottom of the description on the right it says "Not Currently Available".

I have removed the channels I no longer get from my channel list, but I'm still getting a lot of "unavailable" channel matches.

Does anybody know why I'm getting these matches in my list and what I can do to eliminate them? I thought maybe it would go away after the ~10 day guide data was flushed, but that doesn't seem to be the case because it has been a month. Any ideas?
