Comcast mpeg4

I believe the Roamio plus (model TCD 848000) is MPEG 4 compatible, correct?

Is anyone watching Roots?

I had not heard about the remake until this past weekend. We've watched the first episode (it's a 4 part miniseries).

The first hour or so was very slow. I almost gave up. But we pressed on, and it got a little more interesting the last half, and Tuesday's episode looks like there is a lot happening in it.

I remember watching the original 1977 Roots - and read an article that 50% of households with TV watched it back in 1977 - of course there were like 4 channels back then... But it was one of the iconic TV moments of my age.

Provider disappeared from guided setup

I followed the advice of tech support that sent me down the wrong path and now I can't fix it. The guide data was wrong for one channel even though it's right on the app and on Tivo Online. A forced connection didn't fix it, so tech suggested I rerun guided setup with a purposely wrong zip code and provider, then run it again with the correct info. That would force it to reload everything.
Now, my provider (Time Warner) doesn't show up in guided setup. The only one listed for my zip code is Sony New York (which doesn't exist). I know Time Warner is changing its name, but it certainly isn't Sony New York and when I pick that one, the channel lineup is all wrong. Of course support is closed for the day. I'm pulling my hair out. Any ideas?

Last Man on Earth-S02E18-"30 Years of Science Down the Tubes" OAD 5/15/16

Just marathon'd the 2 seasons, this episode was brutally emotional for me...
  • Phil's denial about his brother Mike dying from the virus.
  • When Mikes tries to push Phil away by saying "The only time you even came close to being special was when everybody died but you."
  • The two of them seeing the graves Phil dug for their parents, then the tombstone he made for Mike as well since Phil believed he died.
  • Mike still convincing Phil to leave so his brother wouldn't have to watch, then bury another family member.

The show is stupid, but has it's moments though. I think if I wasn't watching them all back to back some of the multi episode plots would drive me bonkers. Even though it was kind of obvious what would happen I was half expecting the fratboy'ish humor would detour the emotional blow.

So You Think You Can Dance "season 13" thread *spoilers*

Just watched last night's episode. Not sure I will be able to stick with it this season. This is one of my favorite summer shows but I'm just not into kids competitions. I'll give it another couple episodes. My guess is this will probably be the last season for the show. :(

Nebbie Options for Remote Viewing

Got my Bolt today and will have an Premiere XL4 (lifetime) and 2 mini's coming Friday. Now that the hardware is purchased, I'm trying to determine my remote TV options. I'm accustomed to being able to watch live tv and recorded video. But I'm seeing that the only way I can do that with all my hardware is to buy more... A Slingbox. It seems I will only be able to view some channels. I understand that I can watch via Android/iOS, but not via a web browser. Amazing for a product like Tivo.

I've been reading and it seems I'll only be able to view "some" channels remotely. Not a show stopper, but I travel weekly and watching my local TV and my recordings is nice to have.

Can someone tell me with the hardware I have, what I'll be missing.

YUP... looked and looked and read and Googled, and emailed Tivo (no response.)

Thanks for the help.

New Bolt - Title Not Available

I set up a new Tivo Bolt four days ago (with a cable card) and still have several channels showing "Title Not Available," so there are no show listings in the Guide for those channels (shows "To be announced.") I've connected to Tivo in the Network Settings several times, with no success in fixing this. Is there something else I can do? Thank you.

Roamio Crashing--NOT the hard drive!

...well, it might be the hard drive, but I am hoping it isn't and that would be one hell of a coincidence (ran a S.M.A.R.T. test, it passed)...

I have a Roamio standard with lifetime. I used the bless and expand method to at a 5TB drive. The Roamio is connected via Ethernet to my home network, I have a lifetime TiVo Mini connected via MoCA.

It has run flawlessly for about a year.

I swapped out my DSL for DOCSIS 3 using an Arris SB6183. I put a splitter on the cable that runs to the Roamio and connected the Arris to one leg, and the Roamio to the other.

Now, whenever I turn off the TV connected to the Roamio, it reboots.

Steps I have taken to try to fix it:
  • Switched around ports on the splitter
  • Swapped the Arris and TiVo from 7Db and 3.5Db ports
  • Added a MoCA filter coming into the house
  • Switch MoCA settings from DHCP to Static
  • Turning off a set channel for MoCA, setting it to "Auto"
  • Turning off MoCA encryption
  • Fixing the grounding wire on my cable MPOE (long story)
  • Switched HDMI inputs on TV / Replaced HDMI Cable

My gut says it is some kind of ground potential difference that kicks in when I turn the TV off. The TV, Roamio, and cable modem are plugged into the same power strip so that should have a common ground. I wonder also if the ground on the cable shielding is causing this? Perhaps the Arris changed how ground works and TiVo doesn't like it.

Anything else I should try? I really, really don't want to swap the hard drive.

Person of Interest - S05E09 - “Sotto Voce” - 05/30/2016

The episodes opens with Shaw trying to get back to the City.
In the process, she beats up on a couple of coyotes in what is supposed to be the desert and all she needs to complete her impression is a cheroot and some Ennio Morricone music playing on the background.

Team Machine is back to basics with Reese tracking the latest number, Terry the locksmith, who’s planting a bomb in a building.
Reese busts him but finds out that it’s not what it seems as he’s being coerced by the Voice (whom you may remember S03E15 “Last Call”), who has Terry’ wife hostage.

Reese and Finch track down where they think the wife is being held object and Reese calls in backup for a raid but it’s a trap!
Reese is uninjured but is back to square one.

Meanwhile Fusco’s giving Reese the cold shoulder due to him being so secretive and Root’s tracking a radio engineer that may be connected to Samaritan
All this while Fusco busts a multiple murderer.

So Finch enlists the help of Elias to track down the Voice.

And Reese needs it because the Voice has multiple bombs planted in the city and most of the precinct is out dealing with the situation and this is where Terry is coerced to let the gang members i lockup out of their cells. He doesn’t do it but someone else does.
(Assault on Precinct 13 anyone?)

That’s a problem because it’s basically just Reese and Fusco and a patrolman who helped Fusco earlier in the precinct. The gang members are going after Fusco’s prisoner because he’s worked for the Voice in the past and needs to be silenced.
Patrolman tries to shoot him but Reese has tumbled to the fact that he’s working for the Voice and disables him.
But it may not matter with Reese and Fusco under assault by the gang and they are running out of ammo.

Finch and Elias track down The Voice’s lair and quickly realize that Terry the locksmith is actually the Voice, there to kill Fusco’s prisoner. He gets the drop on Reese, who’s saved by Fusco by taking a bullet in the shoulder for Reese but the prisoner is dead and the Voice slips away in the confusion of another gang member attack.

Finch tracks down The Voice at his getaway car who pulls a gun on him but Elias pulls a gun on the Voice so Mexican Standoff.
But the ever canny Elias planted a bomb on the Voice’s getaway car and sets it off, killing him.
He then chides Harold on knowing that he was going to do something like that.

Meanwhile, Root is tracking those Samaritan agents when someone else starts shooting them.
Some further tracking and Root comes face to face with the shooter, Shaw!
Root is overjoyed to see Shaw but the problem is that after 7000+ simulations, Shaw is still not sure what’s real and if she can trust herself not to harm the people she loves.

Rather than hurt her friends, Shaw threatens to kill herself and Root, with that wacky Root logic that we love, says that if Sameen is going to off herself, she’s going to as well.
Something that Shaw never saw in a simulation.

Back at the precinct, Reese decides it’s time to tell Fusco the truth about the Machine Wars and then they off to reunite with Shaw.

The issue I had with this episode is that I didn’t care for the Voice as an adversary when we first met him back in Season 3. I felt that he was a second rate Root knockoff and not particularly a worthy adversary for Team Machine. I would have been perfectly happy if he never had appeared again.
I have a little interest in the question of who he was working for (was it Samaritan and Decima?) but that’s about it.
This would have been a decent episode for Season 4 but with the shortened Season 5, do we really need to spend time on this?

I did like Elias blowing him up and it does raise the question of if Harold knew and wanted Elias to do that?

Tivo VS DirecTv

For many, many years, I was a hardcore Tivo advocate. However we were wanting the Disney channels for our 4 y/o (not provided completely by Comcast) and liked the multiroom function with DirecTv (rather than the slow transfer between Tivo units), so a few months ago, I fell for a sales pitch at my local AT&T store and got set up with DirecTv (not with Tivo). However, I am beginning to question that decision for a number of reasons.

I currently still have a Tivo Premiere XL and a Tivo HD, both on month to month billing with Tivo and with signal provided by Comcast (in contract).

My desires are:
1. Two room usage
2. Amazon, Netflix access
3. Easy interface
4. Best pricing (including best way to get out of DirecTv)

Please offer suggestions on Tivo equipment to upgrade to, set up, services, etc. Any and all ideas are very welcomed.

TWC and Charter Merging

Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks soon will be know as Spectrum.
I use TWC and have been lucky with no real issues with my Cable card for the last three years other than an occasional reboot. I have had issues with billing screw ups. Just wondering what others are thinking who use these services.

How can I see "onepass" recordings and "to do list" of network connected Tivo?

I have a Tivo Bolt and Premiere connected via MRV.

While watching the TV connected to the Premiere, is there a way to see the "one pass recordings" and "to do list" on my Bolt connected via my home network?

I know I can watch shows over the network on the other Tivo but can't seem to figure this out.

Please let me know. Thanks.

Problem with Samsung SEK-3500 Evolution Kit

I have a Bolt that I have connected to a Samsung UN65HU8550 TV with a Samsung SEK-3500U/ZA Evolution Kit installed. The SEK-3500 Evolution kit upgrades the TV to HDCP 2.2 (the TV is already 4k capable).

When I change the TIVO program source from say live TV to a recorded program the TV screen and audio blank out for 3-4 seconds and then came back again. This also happens when I am watching a recorded program and hit the skip forward or reply button on the TIVO remote.

Called TIVO tech support and they had me uninstall the Samsung Evolution kit from the TV - the problem goes away without the kit installed but comes back again when the kit is reinstalled. I'm guessing that it is an HDMI/HDCP handshaking issue of some sort.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Any workarounds?

Bolt remote with TCL Roku TV

Is anyone using the Bolt with a TCL Roku TV? I am wondering if the tivo remote can maneuver on the tcl screen. Most of our tv viewing will be thru the tivo bolt, but occasionally may watch antenna tv or dvd. I would like for the remote to be able to turn on the tv and select the connected bolt without using the tcl remote.

Roamio Pro with Cablevision 4 tuner max M Card

My Premiere XL failed; programs long since recorded wouldn't play back any more, wouldn't see external drive on reboot, and sometimes loud fan sounds. So I'm getting a Roamio Pro to replace it. I'm on Cablevision and I've been warned that the cable card firmware currently has a problem with more than 4 tuners, and that I should block off 2 for now. All I can find was this advice on a xfinity forum;

"TiVo does allow you to disable 2 of the Roamio tuners although they hide this setting. If you are willing to live with 4 tuners older CableCards seem to work OK. On the Settings->Chanels->Chanel List page press 88634 for 4 tuners, and 88636 for 6 tuners."

Can anyone confirm this? Roamio arrives Friday and I hope to have a smooth setup!

Thanks!

Tivo Sale? on All-in Bolts

I got an email from Tivo today offering the Bolts 500GB and 1TB for $649.98 and $699.98 respectively with All In service. That's quite a drop with the All in included. I don't know if this is for everyone as mine came with a discount code to be included when purchased from them online. Anyone else received this?

Plex App not Working

I have three TiVo Roamio OTAs and two Minis, a Roku, and Fire TVs. I don't use the TiVos everyday and I don't use Plex everyday. Recently, I settled in for a little Plex and ran into problems. When I select a movie, I get the play dialog. After I press the play button, I get three dots in the middle of the screen for maybe 30s then I get a screen that says...

There was a problem playing this item.

The video did not start to play in time.

Go Back

This happens with the Plex client in Find TV, Movies, and Videos and the one in Music and Photos. It happens on a wired Mini and a wired Roamio which is directly attached to my router. My router is connected directly to the Plex server using a power line adapter.

Plex works fine using a Fire TV stick (wireless) and a Roku 2 XS.

The only thing that has changed since the last time I watched Plex on a TiVo is that I replaced the hard wire connection from my router to a switch on the second floor of my house with powerline adapters. At the same time I connected the Plex server directly to the router with a power line adapter (at TiVo's suggestion).

Anyone solved this problem?

mini with wireless hdmi?

Anyone used a wireless extender for HDMI with a Tivo Mini?

I'd like to use a projector outdoors. It's a 720p unit, so I don't need full 1080p video. I have an extra Tivo Mini, with the RF remote. I'm wondering if there's a reasonably reliable HDMI extender that might work. Anyone tried any? Found ones to avoid?

Is there a compelling reason to stick with TiVo?

I'll start by saying I've been a TiVo subscriber since October 2000. For most of that time I would've said you can have my TiVo when you pry it from my cold, dead hands. But times and technology change.

I'm currently running 2 TiVo HD machines, one with lifetime service (which I've had since 10/7/2000, transferred from an original TiVo to a Series 2 then to an HD along the way), and frankly I'm wondering if there is any reason to stick with TiVo and upgrade to the Bolt. I watch more and more on demand via Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Comcast's on-demand service (with comcast being my last resort). The Netflix interface on the TiVo HD is horrible at best and I never use it, opting instead to use the app on my Vizio TV. And Amazon Prime isn't even a possibility on the TiVo HD unless I'm missing something.

So, any reason to stick with TiVo given about a 2/3 to 1/3 split streaming to DVRed cable? Comcast's Xfinity X1 sucks, but for the amount of usage either of my TiVos gets any more I'm really wondering if it's worth sticking with it.

online.tivo.com

Please increase the speed. It is excruciatingly slow.

I have an i7 with 16G memory. Internet is 1 Gig speed.

Most other websites I browse are fast.

Thanks.

Apps

Please upgrade the speed of the existing apps. They are excruciatingly slow.

Please let us add new apps. I'd love to see the VidAngel app on TiVo so I don't have to connect a computer to my TV.

Thanks.

Video skipping issue

I have 2 tivo roamios and 1 mini. I use pytivo as my hmo server.

I have noticed recently (past couple months) that my older mkv videos are skipping randomly when playing them back on both my Roamio Pro and Plus.

Actually it is not skipping but cuts out completely for a second. The video input banner on my tv's comes up.

It does not occur with newer videos. Most of my videos were converted from different formats to MKV for pyTivo.

Troubleshooting steps taken.

Tested video on pc and works fine.
Played back on the Mini and it works fine.
Tried with Plexserver and it also skips.
I have tried reconverting them from MKV to MKV and that does not help.

I have narrowed it down to the Roamios.

Anyone else having this issue?

I am going to contact Tivo support, but they probably wont do much.

Thanks

TiVo Mini Remote with A/V Receiver

Hello,

I have a TiVo Mini with the remote that it came with. I recently got a Nakamichi NK6 sound bar from a friend and I am no unable to program the TiVo remote to control it.

I've used the 3 remote codes that come up in the settings prompt - I've also used the code "1999" trick to cycle through the codes (http://ift.tt/1Pd3cVG).

After cycling through those codes 3 times, I have no luck.

Can anyone offer me any advice or suggest the correct code to use?

Thanks.

Will there still be a Bolt Pro now that Tivo has been bought out?

I was looking forward to a Bolt Pro (or whatever name) later this year with 6 tuners and a larger hard drive. Still gonna happen? I realize we are speculating here.

Can I transfer shows between mobile devices?

Right now I have a bunch of shows downloaded on my old iPhone. I recently bought a new iPad and iPhone. I would like to transfer the shows I have downloaded on my old iPhone to my new iPad. Is this possible?

break even with Lifetime Bolt

I read through some of the older posts when the Bolt Lifetime was $600. If I can get it for $400, is the break-even time now worth it? I've never had monthly, and I never had the Comcast DVR to compare. I figure it's somewhere around 3 1/2- 4 years to come out ahead now?

Is that worth it now? Some of the arguments against Lifetime have made sense, but they seem to have been based on the $600 price.

Sorry, I've been out of the subscription loop. I've been Lifetime since 1999, and I transfered it to my OLED Series 3. I'd stick with that, but I'm thinking of getting some Mini's for two other TV's.

Sticky remote keys

Can anyone tell me how to take apart the tivo remote to clean the contacts and circuit board? I took out the one screw under the battery cover but that doesn't seem to do anything about getting the remote apart. I have three remotes from my many tivo units but all of them have keys that either don't work or are really slow in responding.

Thanks for your help
Ed

Game of Thrones 5/29/16 Blood of My Blood S6E06

So The Children saved Benjen the same way they created the white walkers. But he's not one. What is he?

No Sansa and Brienne this episode. Bummer. He scene with Littlefinger was chilling.

Margarey made a deal with the devil a little too soon?

Glad to see Arya reunited with needle. The other girl has been kicking her ass in training so will they fight or will Arya escape first?

Can I use the Ethernet port on my Plus

To connect up a router in bridge mode to improve wireless in that part of my house. My Roamio Plus and other Tivos are on a Moca Network. I set up a Linksys EA4500 in bridge mode, but I couldn't get it to work on the first go-round. Before I give it another try, just wanted to make sure this is feasible. I'm hoping I just entered a bad password when setting it up.

Fresh Off the Boat Grandma

My wife likes this show, but even she is getting annoyed at Grandma not speaking English. What seems dumb is that she understands it. Our problem is that we watch in bed and our glasses are off, so we can not read the subtitles.

I guess we just can not figure out why they do this.

Any reason to keep old TiVos?

I have two old TiVos that have been in my closet for a long time, and I think it's time to finally dispose of them, but I'm wondering if there's a reason to keep either or both of them.

The first is my first TiVo, my Philips HDR212. The only reason I can think to keep this is because it is, in fact, the first and oldest TiVo in my account. I think this one was used to get a multiple service discount on my other TiVos.

The second is a single tuner Series 2. I can't think of a reason to keep this one, honestly.

Any reason to keep either of these, other than sentimental value?

TiVo remote and a/v receiver control

Can someone tell me if the TiVo remote needs LOS with a receiver if you want to program it to control the volume?

I want to mount my TiVo recessed, behind my tv. I also want exeternal speakers but I don't have enough room for a soundbar. I will either need wall mounted or ceiling mounted speakers. I want to keep my TiVo remote. If I get a large receiver it will not be able to be placed in a cabinet. It will have to go down in my basement.

Does anyone have a setup like this? If I can't use my TiVo remote can I control the receiver volume with a universal remote? Does that kind of remote need LOS?

Roamio Plus glitching

I have a Roamio Plus that I purchased in Oct. of 2015, so it is still under warranty.

It has been glitchy since I got it. During most shows (recorded only) it will glitch, skip, sputter at least once.

I have another Roamio, a Basic, and it does NOT do that on that one, which makes me think something is wrong with this one.

Since I also have Lifetime on this, I am wondering what I can do? Is there some way to diagnose this from the Roamio itself?

Thanks

Roamio not showing MOCA

I am trying to set up a MOCA network with a Roamio 4 tuner unit. I have everything connected just as detailed on the TiVo "How to" page, but the Roamio unit doesn't show it. Anyone else had this problem or am I missing something simple?

Monthly Fee Discount?

I'm traveling for about 1.5 months and was going to bring an old Series 4 with me. Anyone know of any discounts available for monthly service?

Comcast V58 Issue After 2 Years OK

Haven't seen this issue before:

I have had a Roamio with Comcast with cable card working fine for over 2 years. Yesterday, turned on the TV and all channels other than local stations are showing a V58 channel not authorized error (both sd and hd).

I have a Premier on a second TV with a cable card that is still working fine.

I have tried restarting the Roamio and running through the guided set up and still get the V58 error. The Roamio is on software version 20.5.9.

Has anyone heard of something like this happening before? I couldn't find anyone posting about a similar problem.

Why would this error suddenly show up on the Roamio? Is it likely that the cable card died and needs to be replaced? Or could something have happened on Comcast's system and the card needs to be repaired to the Roamio box? My hunch is that I need to swap out the card for a replacement but wanted to post here to get some feedback.

I'm just dreading having to deal with Comcast customer service again.

Thanks for any feedback.

Red clock instead of blue check mark?

This is just kind of a question/concern deal.

I was cruising through the Tivo Guide, looking for something, and notice that one show I have coming up to record (manually set up) has this red clock to the left of the name of the show, instead of the usual blue check mark.

It appears that it is scheduled to record but, in over 12 years of having Tivos, I've never seen this before.

Should I just get over it? :D

BTW, all other shows I've come across that were scheduled to record, whether manually or by Season Pass, have the regular blue check mark/s.

ETA - Tivo Bolt

Took a pic but cannot figure out how to put it here unless I have to upload to a host, from my computer. Won't c&p either. :(

tivo no dhcp error message

dup

tivo no dhcp error message

This happens every few months for the last year or so and I cant figure out why. It is generally when we loose power but other times also. I have to fiddle with it and eventually get the connection back, but this time nothing is working. I set up a static ip address the last time and thought it fixed it but our internet went out the other day and now it wont connect. Our laptops and phones along with our TV and I pads are connected wirelessly and our Desktop is wired directly to the router and all are working fine just not the tivo.

I am connected via Netgear 1200 and I have tried unplugging the modem, router, tivo and I have unplugged the netgear adapter but no connection still

Bolt, Mini, wireless, and Moca

I just moved into a new home. I have a bolt and three minis which I'm trying to set up.

Home has coax throughout, and my tv/internet provider is via coax (cable modem). Basic tv.

Home is partially wired for Ethernet.

Here are the location specifics:

Media center (bolt): cable, but no Ethernet
Kitchen (mini 1): cable and Ethernet
Master bedroom (mini 2): cable only
Guest bedroom (mini 3): cable and Ethernet

Initially, I installed an ActionTec Moca 2.0 bonded adapter at the cable modem to provide Internet via Moca throughout the house. While it worked, video on all mini locations was extremely choppy, though performance at the bolt location was fine.

So I removed the Moca converter and connected the bolt via wifi. That seems to work fine, and I'm able to connect mini 1 and mini 3 via Ethernet and get good performance. But since mini 2 doesn't have Ethernet available, no luck there.

I tried configuring the bolt as a Moca feed, but since it's connected via wifi itself, it doesn't seem to support that function.

Any ideas? My preference would be to enable Moca throughout (since that would give me Internet at the media center for other purposes), but the mini performance via Moca was horrid. Perhaps my Moca adapter doesn't play well with the minis?

Xfinity on Demand tuner usage results in random recording failures

OK I'm pretty sure that the XOD app using a tuner is causing random recordings to fail because Tivo is trying to use the tuner that's tied up with an XOD video. What you see in History is that the recording failed because of a 'problem getting tuner'. That's the very unhelpful error that results.

This is a VERY BAD BUG, because you never know when a recording is going to fail. I've only seen it when my wife is watching XOD, so I assume there's a tuner allocation bug that causes Tivo to try to pick the XOD tuner by mistake instead of using one of the other 5 free tuners.

And yes, my tuners have not all been in use when this happens. Every time I've seen this it's simply been a bug, there's no signal errors or Cablecard authentication issues. In fact when I've caught it (like last night) I could immediately hit record on the show that failed and it would record in progress.

Crossposted this to Tivo forums in hope that someone there will take a look.

Safe mode?

I have a premier xl that is about 6 years old.
When it tries to boot up I get the welcome screen and then it locks up with what look like static.
This has happened before and then after unplugging it and replugging it a few times it worked fine.

Now it's stuck. I just bought a Bolt.

Is there any way to boot up in a "safe mode" so I can transfer or at least watch my recorded shows?
thanks for any help!

Backup of KMTTG config?

Is there was way to backup the configuration of KMTTG? That would back up all auto-transfers etc.? This weekend I need to finally get around to stop using KMTTG on my old machine that also records data from my IP cameras. To the new machine I setup to be dedicated to KMTTG/TiVo Desktop/Archivo/VideoReDo.

But I have several dozen Auto Transfers setup and would prefer not to have to re-create them from scratch if it can be avoided.

EDIT: As a test I created a new auto transfer to see what file it was put in. I see that the auto.ini file was updated. So would I be able to just move this file from one PC to the other and KMTTG would come up with all the auto transfer info?

Tivo assigns wrong episode numbers

Anyone else notice that Tivo sometimes assigns the wrong episode numbers for some shows?

For example, tivo says that SNL's last episode with Fred Armisen is episode 22, in reality, its episode 21.

It doesnt happen to everything, but ive encountered it a few times and it screws with my automatic download, comskip, transcode, move to plex workflow because it fails the episode lookup to TVDB.

where to begin to let them know about this issue, last time i told them that Onepass was showing wrong episode names for Netflix episodes, tivo told me to contact netflix because it was their fault.

Spectrum Auction, A sad state for the future of OTA

The more I read about the spectrum auction the more concerned I have with the future of OTA TV. Yes, I understand that the repacked channel scenario will allow most markets to keep the majority of channels they currently have. But there WlLL be stations that go off the air due to the auction, especially when being offered a "bribe" of multiple millions of dollars to do so. And there will be more challenges with OTA broadcasts. Channels will be packed closer together meaning neighboring markets will have even more challenges with interference. Some channels will move to VHF frequencies which typically have more challenges with digital broadcast, especially the low band VHF. (yes, VHF can work, but UHF is the preference) Additionally many of the new breed of OTA users have gone with either UHF only antennas, or UHF and VHF high band only antennas. In my market (smaller urban market) we have no VHF stations, and a large neighboring market (Cincinnati, OH), which I also receive, has only one high band VHF station. This means OTA users will potentially have to change out antennas again. Also VHF antennas, particularly low band are much larger than UHF only antennas. It's just all stacked against OTA continuing to be viable or desirable.

I recognize that OTA is a small (but still significant) segment of the market. Depending on what data you care to believe it ranges anywhere from 8% of the market to as high as 20%. The 20% figure is most likely users who use any type of OTA TV reception rather they have a subscription service or not. But I'm a believer that OTA was poised on the cusp of a resurgence. There is no argument that there is renewed interest in OTA TV by those unwilling to shell out the high price of subscription TV. This is especially true as more people become aware of how good OTA TV can be since the digital conversion. I have helped many friends set up an antenna, and most of those with a TiVo. Only one has gone back to pay TV after.

I'm not knocking pay TV (other than the maybe the price and inflexible packages). If you have pay TV and love it, I fully understand, this thread isn't about you. Pay TV is well worth the cost for many if not most people. But there are millions of us (a growing number) who are quite content with what we can get over the air for free. So no need to debate OTA vs Subscription TV. Both have their place. There is still a good market for OTA and it has the potential to grow if given a better opportunity to do so. But with the repack and loss of spectrum that potential is being severely throttled, never to be regained. There is just too much money involved in gobbling up the spectrum so we have unfettered high speed access to Facebook and Twitter (and pay for that access) in every possible nook and cranny of the USA. Yeah, I know there are other uses and an argument on how important they are, but the truth is most of that spectrum is used for less critical uses. Obviously that's a much better use for the spectrum than multiple millions and millions of OTA users.

IMHO I don't see the spectrum auction as being in the best interest of consumers. It's sad, just sad.

Apple Watch TiVo feature

Today I was out for a long walk on the bike trail and I recalled that I'd like to record the Indy 500 that would be on in a few days. I was thinking it would have been nice to be able to say to my Apple Watch. "Hey Siri, Tell my TiVo to record the Indianapolis 500 this Sunday". I use the Siri feature that way for other things I want it to do such as send a text or remind me to do something. Yes I realize I could have pulled out my phone, found the TiVo app, launched it, searched for the show or found it in the guide, and set up the recording that way. That was just more steps than I wanted to try and do while walking. But how nice it would have been to have just talked to the watch and had it done for me.

I believe I heard that TiVo was working on some Apple Watch TiVo features, but this feature would be a nice one!

Auto HD

My old Cox On Demand had auto hd. If you selected a channel that was available in hd, the cable box would automatically tune to the hd channel. Is this something I can get my TIVo series 3 to do?

Summer Marathons!

(Yeah, I still hate the term "binge".)

Lots of good stuff on my marathon list. Gonna be a busy summer:

The Americans
Better Call Saul
Home Fires
Indian Summers
Game of Thrones
Peaky Blinders

Minis hijacking Roamio channels for long periods

I have a Roamio Pro (series 5, software version 20.5.9) and three Minis set up with moca. No problems for many months, except... Several times a week, at all hours, the minis will hijack the Roamio, all at the same time, and I get a "currently in use by another box" message for 3 channels. This goes on for hours. What is happening and how do I stop it, or at least shorten it or make it happen in the middle of the night? Thanks.

Sorry if this has been asked, I searched but didn't find anything on point.

Supernatural "Alpha and Omega" season finale

Woosh and woosh.

What a great finale. It was spoon feeding all the iconic things the fans love about Supernatural. Dean and Cas - like brother, like family, the funeral - have Sabboth and Gary Busey, the keys to Baby go to Sam, and the Winchesters can talk even the Reaper into joining in their party.

Favorite line -
Dean doing the Rowena impression and sounding like the Lucky Charms leprechaun.

New Owner Question

I just ordered the Tivo Bolt. I currently have an Xfinity Account with their box. It's my intention to drop their box, but first I'd like to test the Bolt using my OTA antenna. If I setup the Bolt for OTA will I have a problem changing to cable in the future? Have any of you done it?

I ordered the Bolt from Amazon today after they offered it (briefly) for $345. It includes a 1 year subscription free. I've read that Tivo has not honored free subscriptions in recent days. However, Amazon has always backed up their offers, so worse case, I'll just return the Bolt if Tivo doesn't honor the free year. Experiences anyone?

Thanks.

Can't get verification: V58 on HBO and XOD searchable, but not playing

How's it going everyone, 1st post. I have a Roamio that I've got pared with Comcast, however it is not verifying. All of my SD and HD channels work just fine, but when I go to HBO, it gives me the V58 code. When I go to XOD, it allows me to search everything, but when I go to play something (HBO content and regular content) the monochrome screen pops up and tells me to contact my cable provider and then lists the cable card info. I've been on the cable card phone line 3 different times, they've refreshed the signal plenty of times. I called the national tech line and talked to a tier 3 guy. He verified everything was in the system correct, and then told me its 100% Tivo, which I don't agree with. What next steps should I take? Verify firmware versions? I have a PM into comcast teds on the Xfinity forums, and waiting for a response. He hasn't been active since Monday, which leads me to believe he may be on vacation. I should be. Thanks for any and all help.

One-Pass on streaming series periodically resets episode ptr (Netflix & Amazon) Help?

I have One-Passes for two streaming series. One on Netflix, one on Amazon. I watch one episode a day. Typically when I open up the program in "My Shows", the cursor is on the next episode, or sometimes the last episode watched.

However, once every several days, the pointers for BOTH series reset to S1E1.

Does anyone know how to fix?

Thanks!
/j

It's a 500GB Basic Roamio (not OTA)

Endeavor - Season 3

Endeavor - Season 3 starts on 6/19 on PBS.

Unusual glitch with the Mini

I had something odd happen the other night on my Mini. My wife likes to watch Dancing with the Stars, so earlier this season I had set up a 1P to record it so in case we aren't at home she can watch it later.

The other night she was watching it live on the Mini and the Roamio was recording it via the 1P. Even though the Mini and the Roamio were using the same channel, my assumption is that they were using different tuners.

About 2/3 of the way thru the show I joined my wife and watched the show with her. At one point there was something she wanted to she again so she pressed the "rewind" button and backed up about 10-15 seconds then pressed "play" to continue watching. At this point we are watching a 10-15 second delayed broadcast. Near the end of the program ( during a commercial break) she decided she wanted to check the weather for the next day and punched in the channel number for The Weather Channel. When the new channel came up the info display indicated that the Weather Channel was on and there was a commercial being shown on screen. When the commercial ended, DWTS started up. Needless to say we were a little confused. I brought up the info display and it showed the Weather Channel. She punched in the channel # for DWTS and the info indicated we were back at the right station, but the show started back the the same point in the commercial that we had just seen followed by DWTS.

At this point we tried several other channels. The info display showed the channel and show that was expected but each time the DWTS show came on starting at the exact point in the same commercial. By this time the DWTS had ended so I went to MyShows and deleted the saved DWTS. It didn't make any difference. Still got the same results. By now it was past our bedtime so I shut it all down and went to bed.

The next morning I power cycled the Mini. When it came up I thought that that had solved the problem. My wife called me at work later that morning and said that it was still playing DWTS. That evening when I got home I power cycled both the Mini and the Roamio. That finally solved the problem. I haven't tried to reproduce the problem. But I haven't seen anything like this mentioned here. So I thought I would throw it out to see if anyone else has seen this behavior.

TiVo Premiere HD DVR TCD746320 (45 hour) Series 4 Lifetime Service

Selling a barely used Series 4 premier with lifetime service. Unit is in good shape, comes with remote, and original box, but not original packing. Make me an offer i cant refuse.

Orphan Black 5/26/16 “The Antisocialism of Sex”

Nobody’s dealing with Kendall’s death very well, are they? Booze, depression, religion, bitterness, sex, weaponry, hallucinations, revenge...

“Your science has won.” Well, yeah, I guess guns are science in a way...

Evie Cho, what a clonist. I bet she refuse to let clones use the women’s room.

Poor Dizzy. Getting what you want isn’t always what you really want.

Best. Slumber party. Ever. How come mine never got raided by the narcs?

I’m confused. Is Kira a monkey or a chicken?

I guess Felix’s job is to save clones from themselves...

Kind of an odd episode, everything falling apart after last week, but the pieces not being picked up yet.

tivo app help!

All, OK i am having a problem!

I have a pair of Amazon fire tablets both are doing the exact same thing. I have the TiVo app ( version 3.2.0-896622 ) installed on them through the Amazon store. It usually works fine. I can browse the TiVo and stream off the TiVo. Usually I can download from the TiVo. Sometimes I get some download errors but lets not worry about that now. The problem now is I am away from home, and have a dozen shows on each tablet , ready to play, for the kids to watch. The shows are all fully downloaded. But when I click play, for every ahow, on both tablets, I get the error message:

You cannot play a show copied from an external device error code e=63 v=-1

I have no idea what that is, I have no idea about the external device, I don't have an external device here. Downloaded them straight from the TiVo. Everything was done just as they were supposed to using the official app and everything.

My thoughts on how to fix it? This happened once before and I was able to delete everything and redownload it and it worked.... but we will be on travel for about a week now (I'm writing this during a layover...) Would love to get these to work without redownloading. And regardless even of i redownloading them I don't want this to happen again. Sure made this flight miserable. I was counting on my TiVo and it let me down!!

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Question: Bolt or Mini

Please explain:

I have one Roamio - Lifetime, one Premier - Lifetime, one HD (?) - Lifetime that just died.....lost power, no red light..done.

Do I buy a Bolt and try for a good deal on Lifetime or can I use a Mini and piggyback off my Roamio with 6 tuners?

Would rather not buy another TiVo w/Lifetime but will do what I need.

Also, the new TV is an LG OLED, but running through a TiVo.

Tnx.

Dssxxxx

Wayward Pines - Season 2 Thread - *spoilers*

I'm intrigued enough to keep watching.

Ben has started a revolution against the First Generation kids that are controlling the town. Public reckonings have returned. Kate is captured and fights back, eventually choosing to die rather than continue to be a part of the town. Jason Patric's character is a doctor thawed out to help save Kate, but by the end of the episode he's placed in a van with Ben and another rebel and put outside the town to be devoured by the Abbies.

Please Help Newbie

After years of bad DVR's.. I'm back.....

Getting a Premiere XL4 with lifetime and 3 mini's this week. But I still need another unit and was wondering about a Tivo Roamio pro (I wanted the six tuners.) I know all the bad news about the programming cost, and with about zero chance of a 6 channel Bolt, I think this may be my best best. The best price for new I can find is on the Tivo website. Any reason not to buy and or other options. I may go the 4 turner route if I get bad news here....

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

100,000 Mile Service

The morning I was packing to leave on a trip, the fan in my TiVoHD started making a terrible racket. I have now replaced it with a super-silent fan I found in a youtube video, but while i have it powered off and taken apart, I was wondering if there is anything else I should do.
  • Blow out the dust
  • Clean vent holes
  • Inspect power supply caps
  • Put new thermal paste on CPU ???
  • Anything else ???

Insert new FFMPEG into PyTivoX

Hello,

Is there a way to insert a new version of FFMPEG into a working installation of PyTivoX? Everything works fine but the resolution isn't great.

Also, when I launch PyTivoX I get asked if I want allow or deny python?

Thanks,
Doug

MoCa over Ethernet

Hey guys, after much frustration last night I finally got my Tivo mini to see my Tivo Bolt.

I followed the directions to use MoCa over ethernet and it finally worked.

I work from home and since setting up the MoCa over ethernet I'm occasionally getting DNS errors on my computer.

Have any of you guys experienced this issue?

TiVo Mini with Roamio and Bolt

I have Verizon FIOS with MOCA.

I currently have a Roamio Pro which feeds a Mini in another room, both via MOCA. I also have a TiVo HD which stopped working. If I replace the TiVo HD with a Bolt and everything is on the same network then will my Mini be able to watch shows from either the Roamio or Bolt? How would I designate which one?

Delete whole ToDo list?

Hello Everyone,

The TL;DR rundown: How do I delete literal hundreds of items out of my ToDo list? I'm fine with just dumping the entire ToDo and starting over, but I don't want to delete my existing recordings. What is the best way to do that? I've been trying to do it from the TiVo Online but having to select them one at a time is awful.

Here's the full story. My Roamio started doing a green flashing light when powering up. I can sometimes get it to boot after it sits flashing for a long time. TiVo gave me an RMA. I'm now trying to copy my recordings from the old TiVo to the new TiVo. I'm starting to run out of time on the 30 day grace period I was given for the old TiVo to do the copy.

I started the copies from the new TiVo manually and individually at first, but then I noticed that TiVo online had the ability to transfer them all at once. The manual copies had not finished when I started the TiVo Online copy all. The trouble there is that it only copies a small number then it would stop with the rest just sitting in the ToDo list. After playing around in the interface, telling it to copy again, etc. I could get it to start transferring a few more. But now it's overflowing with obscene numbers of duplicate items in the ToDo, it stopped copying again and I don't want to make the problem worse. Ugh...

Two 1 GB Bolts, Two Minis, Extra Remotes - For Sale

As the title says. Can buy them all, can buy one, no restrictions. Best offers. After about a week or two here, I'll just put them on EBay if not sold.

Everything in 100 percent working condition. Both Bolts have been opened and a couple of the tiny plastic tabs above the drive section snapped off. They were quite flimsy. Does not effect the appearance or operation of either Bolts.

The Minis or Version 2 with the built-in RF.

Thanks for your interest.

The Americans: Season 4, Episode 11: ‘Dinner For Seven’

Philip, Elizabeth, and phony parents run a brilliant con on the Don the Korean scientist, but so far come up empty.

Lonesome Stan is depressed and mopey throughout the episode, but brightens up at a laughably awkward dinner where he and Henry are the clueless ones and Pastor Tim gets a twinkle in his eye when Stan announces he's an FBI agent. :p

Elizabeth slices and dices a mugger in front of Paige, but not before manipulating the crap out of Pastor Tim the whole episode, presumably to get the tape to the Justice Dept. thrown out.

Discuss.

Tivo Desktop Plus Key

Does anyone have a Tivo Desktop Plus key that they aren't using that they wouldn't mind sharing? I have 3 terrabytes of TV shows saved on my PC (transferred via Tivo Desktop from my Tivo Bolt) that are unplayable for some stupid reason. I have a PC with Windows 7 Home Premium with Windows Media Center (which according to what I've read should be able to play the files - has the necessary codecs, etc.) I've downloaded the Windows 7 Codec Pack. I've tried using kmttg and PavTube with no success. I am frustrated beyond belief and about ready to take a hammer to my Tivo. Please help me!

Roamio has blackouts!

Wondering if anyone else has an explanation for what this might be... some times my Roamio just plain old blacks out, and stays that way for several minutes (this last instance was to 15 mins). "No Signal..."

In a different residence and cable purveyor, I used to be able to bring it back to life by jiggling the HDMI cords, thus thought maybe it was a loose TV port or something, but... this last time I'm pawing through the entire closet for cords and it just comes back to life... by itself. Since it's clearly not the HDMI cords/connections, as I doubt just letting the cables settle by themselves would do anything; does anyone know where I should look to next? is it modem? CableCard? should I be setting aside money to replace a TV? Or Roamio itself? It's the part where it regains the signal without my specifically doing anything, that gives me the most puzzlement. TIA!

Lost my apps v312

Everything was working fine until this week and now I can't get any of the apps (Youtube, HBO Go, Amazon, etc.)to work. If I click on them I get a message saying that they are loading, to try again later V 312. I come back later and the same thing. Interestingly, I have 3 mini's set up on the same system and they are all working. I tried to restart the system and it didn't do anything. I went to the system menu, channels and deslected and then reselected a few, but nothing happened. Anyone know what is going on here?

TIVO Android app not working with Premiere Quad

I'll apologize in advance if this has been addressed--I've searched but either come up empty or facing hundreds of pages...

Recently we upgraded to a Premiere Quad (with RCN). Previously I had been able to use my Galaxy 5 (Android) phone as a remote and also to set recordings, view the guide, and delete recordings or modify OnePass--very handy.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it still doesn't work. Says the DVR needs to be activated and I have to contact RCN. They didn't know anything about that. I've gone into the Settings and opted to allow a remote device and followed the app instructions.

My wife recalls that when the DVR was installed the tech told her it would only work with an iphone--but everything I've seen says all models of Premiere.

Anyone know if that's true, or how I can get it to work?

Thanks,
Gary

We open again on Shaw in her locked room who then proceeds to beat up her attendant and break out of the room. Yay Sameen!

Meanwhile, back in the cit, Fusco’s still ticked off and the team and Reese is tracking the latest number an overseas traveler who it turns out, is sick with the Avian flu and heads to a hospital emergency room with Reese tailing him.

The antivirals the ER doctor gives him winds up killing him instead at which point testing reveals that the antiviral was switched out for another flu virus which winds up creating a highly infectious super flu.
(Insert dramatic music sting.)

Reese and Finch are quarantined in the ER while Root does research and finds out that the ER doctor, nurse and hospital administrator have been seeing too many errors with the medical software.
Given the complexity of the virus, Team Machine comes to the conclusion that Samaritan has been jiggered the medical software and records of the country and created the super flu to cover it’s tracks by killing the doctor and nurse.

Meanwhile, Fusco has been tracking former painter now Samaritan operative Jeff Blackwell with Elias’s help while Blackwell himself has been questioning this whole working for the mysterious company and doing questionable things bit.

While Finch finds out the administrator is a Samaritan disciple and sics Bear on him, Root works with the Machine to help compute the proper antiviral, “liberate” it from a nearby lab, and deliver it to the hospital in time.

Our friend Blackwell is ordered to go to the hospital and inject the doctor and nurse with tainted blood but he resists until his handler threatens to frame him for burglary and send him back to prison, so he attempts to comply.
He injects the nurse and Fusco (who tracked him to the hospital) but the doctor is spared thanks to Reese. Fusco and the nurse survive due to the new antiviral (but the nurse suffers kidney damage).
Blackwell passes the test.

Of course, Samaritan’s grand plan was to use the outbreak as cover to DNA samples from everyone, perhaps for a eugenics program.
Scary.

Back to Shaw, it turns out that she broke out of her room through the wall in the bathroom (and off of cameras), eventually finds out she’s in Johannesburg!
Doctor Evil tries to convince her that it’s just another simulation and she shoots him dead and escapes!
Yay Sameen!

It looks like POI has picked up the ball again with the last two episodes.
There’s nothing special about this episodes potential victims but the fact that Samaritan is manipulating medical records and collecting DNA is scary stuff.

Return TiVo Premiere to stock firmware after Comcast?

We loaned our TiVo Premiere (TCD746320) to our daughter who used it with Comcast service. It's back now and working on Charter but the firmware is altered from the stock that it shipped with. Most egregiously, all the streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) are removed. I did an erase and restore before pairing with the Charter CableCard but the Comcast firmware remains.

Is there any way to get this back to stock so this TiVo can use the streaming apps again?

Network Connection frequency

Was just doing a random check of my Bolt's Network status and found something unusual my last attempt was 5/25 at 12:57 am (it was successful) but the Next Attempt is scheduled for 5/25 at 1:55 pm - or only 13 hours latter. I have not done any manual connections in the last week or 2 and the Guide data on the Bolt goes to Monday 6/6 7:30 pm

As a comparison my Roamio shows Last attempt as 5/24 at 3:28 pm with Next attempt on 5/25 at 5:01 pm and it's guide data goes to Sunday 6/5 at 7:00 pm, which is what I would consider to be normal.

Anyone else see a short Network Connection frequency or know why it's happening?

HD channels--auto tune

I am in the process from moving from Xfinity boxes to TIVO and had a question:

Xfinity has a cool feature on their boxes where if you tune to a channel that is SD and there is an HD version of that channel it will automatically tune to the HD channel. Helps people like my wife who for some reason choose the SD version! Thanks

Transferring HD with recordings to a New Bolt

I was forced to get a new bolt due to a malfunction of a previous bolt. Previously I had upgraded the hard drive. Can I just directly take the old hard drive with recordings on it and plug it into the new bolt? Or is there some formatting/wiping of the larger hard drive that must happen first?

After the weekend wedding, we jump straight back into the Machine Wars

Getting back into the city, we find our heroes at Fusco’s bedside at the hospital.
Fusco did make it out of the tunnel alive (and so did Bear!) but he’s (somewhat justifiably) pissed off at Reese and Finch for keeping him out of the loop.

While Reese and Finch decide to guard Fusco, the Machine sends Root out on some more side missions.
It’s a fun and a more in depth look at what Root does while Reese and Finch are often chasing numbers. This one includes saving the life of a Russian diplomat while posing as a ballerina.

But that’s not enough for Root, who keeps pleading with the Machine about Shaw’s status.
Finally, the Machine sends Root out on a mission that may help Shaw after Root ditches her cover of a Colonial reenactor.

Meanwhile Shaw’s still being tortured by Samaritan’s doctor and she’s looking pretty rough but she does manage to get in a few licks on her captors.
(I liked the look the guards gave each other when the doctor told them to bandage her hand.)

Our friendly Samaritan doctor decides to take Sameen on another “field trip”.

Meanwhile, Root has stepped for the producer of Art Bell type radio show host Max Green (30 Rock’s Scott Adsit).
It turns out that Max has tumbled onto a secret radio signal masquerading as interference but really contains a secret code.
When a mysterious entity fakes an on-air suicide of one of Max’s listeners Warren, who’s been helping him decode the signal, it doesn’t take Root and Reese (and us) to realize that it’s Samaritan that’s behind the signal and now Max is in it’s sights.

Root realizes that she can use the signal to send a message to Shaw and it’s a good thing to.
Shaw’s latest “field trip” was the doctor showing Shaw a researcher who’s work could have unintended effects on the World ecosystem.
Shaw thinking it’s another simulation, shoots the researcher dead but later finds out it was real (I figured it out when she shot her).

As result, Shaw has lost all hope and is considering killing herself when she gets Root’s message (four alarm fire) just in the nick of time.

And while Max promised that he’d keep quiet about the signal, he goes back on the air to break that promise.
And of course, promptly gets poisoned by the station receptionist who’s a Samaritan operative.

Meanwhile, Fusco tell Finch that if you’re not going respect enough to tell me the whole truth, I quit.

So the question is, did the Machine know that Max wouldn’t stay silent and sent Root in there anyways to give Shaw hope.

An interesting look into Root's world and we're getting back to the Machine Wars.

HBO GO Wierdness

Not sure if it is the RC 4 or RC 12 update (or the Verizon to Frontier fiasco) but lately on my Roamio the app has been behaving strangely. When I try to rewind a scene (or several) it will actually fast forward (!). YES, I will admit that one time I actually had the remote upside down and was agog and apoplectic (not necessarily in that order) but once I realized the error, I've been extra careful to make sure that the remote is right side up. However, it seems to be a regular thing now. Shows will begin fast forwarding then at some point rewind. On top of that, the rewind does not stop on a dime like Netflix does. It overshoots much like the old set top cable box/DVR I finally ditched.

Anyone else experienced this?

Also, the fact that I have to enable closed captions before logging into the app is annoying because if I forget, I have to exit HBO Go, go to live TV or settings, enable it and log back in.

Don't get me started on the shortcomings of rewinding or fast forwarding on Amazon......

The Flash 5/24/16 "The Race of His Life" (season finale)

Well, I was figuring the multiverse would all merge, which could be a great excuse for Supergirl crossovers.

I definitely didn't expect him to go back in time to save his mother. I wonder if next season will be set completely in an alternate future.

Gotham - "Transference" OAD 5/23/16)

I don't think anyone is still watching this and after the ridiculous of the finale (Strange survived that!?) I don't blame people, but I'm glad Fish is back.

It looks like next season, assuming it's renewed, with be monster of the week episodes, with a Bruce doppelgänger thrown in for good measure. I guess they can bring back dead characters that way, but I'm not sure what direction this show is going.

Every storm my Suddenlink Tivo fries my tvs hdmi ports. Why?

This is the third tv it's messed up and I am tired of paying for tv repairs. Why does this keep happening? Only elextronics connected to the tivo get messed up.

New Providers?

Just wondering if anybody has heard if TIVO plans on adding any new providers to the Bolt? Seems like the Bolt has a ton of potential but I have not heard anything about any new updates coming.

New Bolt not Populating Guide Information

I just got a new Bolt in the middle of April so outside the return window. I keep having to connect to the TiVo service manually in order to populate the guide information. My TiVo Premiere will work fine as it automatically populates the guide. Why is my Bolt not doing the same? When I contacted TiVo they said to make sure certain Ports were open on the router and I checked the Network settings and the Bolt is indicating that all required ports are already open. I don't know what to do next so I'm going to check to see if I can get a warranty replacement if I can't figure out why it won't populate the guide automatically.

More apps

I love it that TiVo has a lot of the abilities of a set top box - Amazon Prime, NetFlix, You Tube, Vudu, HSN, etc.
Are there designs on adding more "channels"?
Specifically, I would like Right Now Media. I am sure there are other folks who would like other web channels as well. Is an expanded web channel selection in the works?

In what order do files play when playing all recordings in this group.

I'm trying to figure out in which order my files will play when I play a folder.

Although the order of the files listed in the folder change when I sort by (season) or by (newest), the files never play in the order they are listed. The order in which the files play matches neither (season) or (newest). And the play order is not in the order the episodes first aired and is not in order of the file dates (which obviously changes when I edit out commercials before sending back to the TiVo).

As near as I can tell, maybe they're played back by the date on which they were recorded on the TiVo. As it happens the episodes were not recorded on their original air date. And they were not recorded in episode order (e.g. I may have recorded EP307 and then recorded EP102 and then EP401, etc.).

These files were all recorded on the TiVo Bolt, transferred to my desktop computer using kmttg and then edited to remove commercials (with VideoReDo) and then transferred back to the TiVo Bolt with pyTivo.

So, just what determines the playback order?

And for the curious... in this particular example the series is How the Universe Works as shown on the Science Channel.

Thanks

Is 5G the real reason Verizon is moving to IP TV?

Just saw this article: http://ift.tt/27RMmC4

It claims:
Verizon CEO says there's no reason why FiOS, now only available in the Northeast, couldn't go nationwide with a fixed wireless service.
So is this the real reason Verizon is sold off big hunks of their wired FIOS system and why they are working on a FIOS IP TV solution? Sure sounds like it to me.

What do others think? Is it really possible to run a full blown cable system over 5G and provide high speed Internet too?

Mount Bolt in wall behind tv?

I am trying to figure if I can mount the Bolt on it's side in a recessed in-wall shelf, just around the corner from a wall mounted tv. I might have to do it on it's side there, because the spacing between the studs might be narrow there. The Bolt doesn't need line of sight, does it?

the only other thing I could try is mount it behind the TV, but I figure its too big and heavy for that. I'll do that with the appleTV.

Fire TV app (good enough to be a mini-substitute?)

Hi

Curious about people's experiences with the Fire TV app. Would you use it as a substitute for a Mini? Is it stable? Responsive? Would you use it for an extra room with irregular TV watching?

Thanks!

New Bolt, Charter, and TA question

Hi guys, I just got a Tivo Bolt, Charter and Cablecard/Tuning Adapter.

The Tuner Adapter brings up a warning that my Tivo has 4 tuners and after plugging the TA in I'll lose a tuner.

Do I have to use the TA?

Thanks!

Tivo Premiere XL and Tivo Mini (speed, experience, etc)

Hi

Right now I have RCN and rent their Tivo equipment. This includes a Tivo Premiere XL4 and their special remote unit which actually has a local tuner for live TV. We are moving to an area with only Comcast and Fios and will be getting FIOS (I know that Comcast has VoD but it's a non-starter for me).

I now am going to be purchasing retail Tivo equipment, including a Tivo Mini and either a Roamio or XL4.

There are some good deals on ebay for Premiere XL4s with lifetime and since I am satisfied with our experience right now, I am leaning towards that.

I understand that the Premiere XL4 is the oldest device that supports the Mini for live TV and had the following questions.

1. Is there any difference in functionality when connected to an XL4 vs. a Roamio/bolt?

2. Is there any difference in the speed/experience of the Mini either watching live TV or recorded TV when connected to a Premiere XL4 vs. Roamio/Bolt.

3. Does the Premiere suffer from any performance issues when streaming recordings/livetv to a mini?

4. Any other thoughts/ideas?

Thank you for your feedback

Person of Interest - S05E06 - "A More Perfect Union" - 05/23/2016

It’s Season 5! Time for a wedding!
At least that’s what it feels like when Team Machine has to crash a wedding to ferret who’s the perpetrator and who’s the victim for this week’s number.

While it’s amusing to see Reese mistaken for a stripper and for Finch to sing an a cappella Irish take on Twisted Sister, I wasn’t able to get that invested in the wedding of Will and Phoebe and the various machinations of a family that would fit in the world of Dynasty.
Even if it’s Maggie the family photographer that they have to save.
(I did like Root riding in on the horse though.)
This really felt like a Season 1 plot line.

The real meat of the story is really in the B & C plots with Fusco investigating all those missing people and Greer continuing to torture Shaw.

The number of VR simulations on Shaw has hit 7053 and so Greer decides to take a different approach and takes Shaw out on a field trip, where he shows Shaw crimes that Team Machine might not be able to prevent.

Fat cats plotting to shutter companies providing low cost vaccines and air conditioning, plotting to supply airlines with substandard parts.

And Chechnian terrorists who want to bomb the Russian Embassy and start World War III.

And to this end, Samaritan’s Analog Interface, Creepy Boy, talks directly to Shaw to show how event could unfold without it’s intervention and we realize when the world starts to blow up that it’s another simulation and Samaritan wants to turn Shaw.

Meanwhile, Fusco’s still digging into all those missing persons and finds out that our buddy Bruce Moran is following a similar trail.

Following a lead, Fusco takes Bear to a subway tunnel that’s set to be demolished and finds the bodies of all the missing people plus the body of one Bruce Moran.
The demolition starts and explosions!

Does Fusco make it out alive?]
Does Bear?

There’s only six episodes left after this one and I’m a tad disappointed that the writers aren’t pushing this forward more.

Blindspot | S01E23 Why Await Life's End | 2016-May-23

Whew, for a minute there I thought they were going to erase Jane's memory again and then not resolve much of anything.

Weller's father did kill Taylor Shaw. The DNA test matched Jane because someone previously broke into the evidence building and switched Taylor's samples with Jane's.

So Jane is just a girl who grew up in sub-Saharan Africa, probably in a poor family or as an orphan, based on her comment:

"You know where I come from. How I grew up. I never thought any of this would be possible for me."

Maybe she was recruited into this "only from the ashes can we rise" cult at a young age by this mysterious Sheppard. Or maybe he saved her life when she was an adult ("he brought you back from the dead"). Evidently she used to be a true believer in the mission, of which "phase 2 is about burning it [USA] to the ground". And she "hates the FBI, this entire government betrayed" her.

She believed in the mission so much that she was willing to be scarred like Taylor, tattooed all over, and have her memory wiped. The goal was to get Weller into Mayfair's position, with Jane as Weller's trusted confidante, so that Weller could be manipulated into forwarding the mission.

Overall, a fairly satisfying explanation for the mystery of Jane's origin. It will be interesting to see if they can keep things interesting next season. Presumably it will be all about tracking down Sheppard and preventing the cult from destroying the country. And Weller and Jane will have a long way to go to build up any sort of trust again, but Jane will be important to tracking down Sheppard, so Weller will have to work with her.

The subplot of getting Mayfair's USB key and decrypting it dragged on too long. The payoff is that it looks like we will finally learn what project Orion is when next season starts. Earlier this season, Jane had a flashback where she heard someone mention project Orion, but I thought it was a Pentagon official or something like that, not someone from Sheppard's cult. Or maybe it was an undercover cult member? I wonder how Mayfair got the information on Orion. Was it related to Project Daylight?

I suppose the biggest remaining mystery is about Sheppard's cult. They are strangely well informed, judging by all the intelligence they tattooed onto Jane. They deliberately hid Sheppard's face in Jane's flashbacks, which suggests that he could be someone who has already appeared on screen.

Add antenna to TiVo

I moved into a new house and frontier can't set up cable or internet for another week. I do have an antenna, but can't figure out how to get TiVo to access it. Is their any way to do it without running guided setup? Since I don't have internet I don't want to go through that process. I just want to be able to watch some live tv for the next week until I have my fios again.

How to look up a tsn number for a TiVo Stream

I have a TiVo Stream that I bought off of eBay and TiVo says they cannot activate it because it is tied to a cable provider I would like to verify that information on my side.
How do I go about doing that?
Or do I just have a giant paper weight that I need to throw in the trash?

Local videos not playing on AirPlay

I stream my TiVo videos from a remote Roamio. Programs stored on the Roamio stream just fine to my iPad and from there I toss them up to the tv using AirPlay through my AppleTV. However, when I am on the same network as the TiVo, I often download videos direct to the iPad to save on the data load over the Internet. Back home those locally stored videos will play just fine on the iPad but when I try to send them through AirPlay only the audio goes to the tv. Aren't these supposed to work? Is there a setting I am missing?

Premiere - getting spinning blue circle a lot

On my Premiere XL I'm getting the spinning blue circle when trying to play shows. It sits there for like 10 seconds sometimes before playing. This is local, not MRV. Is my hard drive going bad, do you think? It's a launch machine, so 6 years old.

MOCA Bridge IP vs Stream IP

Hello,

I am trying to document my network clients with hostnames. I have a Roamio Pro and Plus. The Plus serves as a MOCA bridge for my bedroom mini. I notice two IP addresses on my network coming from the Plus and Pro. Is the second one always for the built in stream encoder? Does the MOCA bridge take a local IP or is it performed using the IP of the Plus?

Thanks!

Tivo Mini/MCOA setup help

I have tried reading the site to find info and while there is a ton of helpful info I still found myself unsure about the steps I need to take so I hope someone can help. My setup:

Basement--New Tivo Bolt connected to Comcast network using Ethernet cable. I am using an Arris TM822g DOCSIS 3.0 Telephony Cable Modem.

I am looking to setup a Tivo mini or two in rooms on other floors that don't have Ethernet access but have cable access.

I have read that this is possible by setting up a MCOA network and that is where I have questions. Its mostly about the filter or bridges. Just not sure what I need as far as the filter/bridges go or where is the best place to connect them. All help is appreciated. Thanks!

Any way to play media in Plex directly without using GUI?

I love having Plex on my TiVo, however it takes a long time to launch Plex, wait for it to load, then select the media you want to play, etc. Using the iOS Plex app mitigates some of this but still can't launch the Plex app automatically. With this said, is there a way to launch media directly using scripts or some other methodology?

Thanks,
Chuck

Bolt - tivo Mini glitches

Hello,

I have a bolt and mini, when i have the Bolt create the Moca network several channels glitch really bad, but as soon as i turn this off the glitches stop.

I have replaced all the splitters in the house with Moca labeled Antronix splitters.
and also added a Holland POE filter.

i have not tried to create a moca network with another device yet. would this matter? or is the Data on the coax just interfering somehow and causing the glitches.

thanks.

Undercover Boss 5/22/2016 Wienerschnitzel

I know they have disguises and they have a cover story for why there are cameras around.

But seriously, these people know they're on Undercover Boss, don't they?
To me, the super-positive-glad-to-be-working-here attitude and the sob stories feel so staged.

Not every week. Sometimes, some people don't seem to get that they shouldn't be bad-mouthing the company. But this week, it really felt like everyone had a pretty good idea that they had to be on their best behavior.

Preacher 5/22/2016 (S01E01) "Pilot"

After watching this I haven't the slightest idea how to describe it to anyone, including myself, or for that matter what it's about. But it made a whole lot more sense than anything shown on "Fear the Walking Dead" for the last 2 seasons, so I'm OK with that.

Fear the Walking Dead 5/22/2016 (S02E07) "Shiva"

All I can say is I watched "Idiocracy" just before this episode. So I'm thinking maybe "Fear the Walking Dead" somehow got sent back in time and is being aired.

After this season, I'm honestly willing to just write off the South. Time to see if Canadians managed to conquer The Stupid before the virus hit.

Game of Thrones 5/22/16 "The Door"

Well, dang! Bran sure messed up Hodor's life real good, didn't he?

I guess Hodor really did have only one thought on his mind...

Brand new Roamio is painfully slow

Okay, this started off as I replaced my broken TiVo HD with a Roamio. It developed a problem where it would freeze up - infrequent at first, but eventually/gradually it got to the point of being a daily problem. Towards the end, it was also accompanied with "HDMI connection not permitted" problems (not sure if that's the exact wording).

I was getting within a couple of days of the 3 month warranty expiring, so I made a claim, and they sent me a new one. I think I've had it almost a month, and it hasn't freezed up until today. I also have recently gotten those HDMI error messages again, but my research indicates that's probably a problem with my HDMI cable, not a TiVo problem. Sometimes rebooting the TV or unplugging/replugging the cable fixes it, according to others, and yes, it seems my experience is the same. So that means I have a temporary workaround (but I should probably buy a new cable.)

But here's my more worrisome problem. Once I rebooted, I'm finally getting around to setting up my first season pass on it. (Why this has taken so long is a long story, having to do with disagreements with my wife, on which TiVo will be mine, and which will be hers.)

Many buttons take 8 seconds to process (like to find a list of shows.) Some buttons are faster, but in the season pass menu, when I click <Options> to see a list of season pass options, it took 20 seconds to show me the next screen.

My old TiVo HD used to be so much faster than this. Are all Roamios this slow, or does this sound like a defect / malfunction I'm dealing with?

In the last several years, I've had a disturbingly large amount of TiVo malfunctions. Basically once I moved to this house I'm in, things have gone south with my TiVos, while at my last house, they performed admirably.

Lifetime or "All-in" deals (help)

Here's my situation

I used to be a retail Tivo customer from 2008-2012. I then moved, got RCN, and used RCN's Tivos (which had built-in VOD). I am now moving to an area with just Fios and Comcast and will be getting Fios.

I understand that some people are getting retention deals on lifetime service. What kind of deals are people seeing? Would I be eligible as a user of non-retail Tivos? What is the best contact point for trying to get something

Also, I have seen some offers on ebay for used Roamios with lifetime service. If these break down, is the lifetime service transferable?

Thanks

SNL 5/21/16 Fred Armisen; Courtney Barnett

Where is Sean C when you need him? :)

Don't have the usual run down he does and I have never been a fan of Arisen's but...

Farewell, Mr. Bunting was the funniest thing I have seen on SNL in ages.

and of course the digital short was fun...
I also thought the Regine sketch was good

I think I spent the entire show wondering if they would do The Prince Show... at first I thought, no, they can't without Maya Rudolph and then when she showed up for weekend update... I thought would they?

Remember the Malcolm McDowell movie "Time After Time"?

Ignorant Question

Can I view Amazon Prime videos on my Premiere? (Yes, I'm a Prime member. I'm not THAT ignorant!) If the answer is yes, how do I sign in? It asks for my e-mail address and password, but the Premiere remote doesn't have a keyboard. I apologize if this all seems very stupid--I tried to warn you with the title of my post. I could really use some help with this.

Thinking of downgrading to Cox TV Starter

I have a Roamio Plus and currently subscribe to Cox advanced TV with movie pak for $90 a month. I want to downgrade to starter TV which is $24 a month since we mostly do streaming. Is there anything I need to know before doing this? Like, will my cable card and tuning adapter stop working if I no longer have Advanced TV or something? Anything else I should know? Thanks

Grimm "Beginning of the End, 1 & 2" OAD 5/20/16

Nick went full on berzerker mode at the end, good thing he forgot to hand the stick (or as I read on Reddit somewhere "Nick's magic wood") over to keep it safe, and instead held onto it. Or maybe that's why he decided to stay behind, knowing he had the stick and bet on it to heal him throughout the fight.
Normally a cliff hanger like that would be annoying but after like Nick just killed like 20-30 wesen (who were also cops) I'm alright with it. I thought at first Renard killed Bonaparte, either because he still had some loyalty to Nick and friends, or because he thought of it as an opportunity to take over the Portland Black Claw cell. But nope, he was a full d-bag to the end. I wonder if he'll try placate an exhausted Nick and take credit for killing Bonaparte by his own will, or if Renard will just be "absent" next season because Nick is just too pissed to be placated..

Advice in advance of cableco change

I've decided to switch cable providers and will be getting an installer visit next Friday, May 27. In order to minimize problems/issues, I'd like to ask advice from others who've done this as to when I should rerun Guided Setup. I don't anticipate any change in where my cable entry points will be located, nor in where they place my cable modem, and I'll be sticking close to ensure they don't do anything inappropriate with my lone MoCA adapter or the outside POE filter I put on the line.

So...recommendations?

AirPlay or ScreenCast to a TiVo from iPhone....is there a way?

For my primary TV, I have a TiVo Roamio, Apple TV, and Chromecast all attached to different HDMI inputs.

I know it's a "first world" problem to have to toggle the input each time, but since we are on the TiVo input 99% of the time, I was wondering if there was a way, or if they may someday implement, a way to send photos or video from my iPhone via WiFi to the TiVo like they do with AirPlay and screencasting. I do have the TiVo app on my iPhone which is handy for control or downloading a show from my Roamio. But the reverse would be very convenient as well. Thanks!

Content Transfer Stalled

I'm attempting to transfer all of my OTA recordings from my Bolt to my 6TB Roamio OTA over my gigabit Ethernet network. The transfer worked fine for about half the recordings and then just stalled overnight. The remainder of the recordings are showing up as pending in the Roamio's ToDo list, but none are actually transferring now. I attempted to force a link to the TiVo network to jumpstart the remaining transfers. No joy. All other features on the Roamio are working just fine. No error logs either.

Any ideas on how to resume the transfers?

Design Format Change Capability

I am a VUDU subscriber, and everytime I want to watch VUDU I have to go to the 2nd page of Find your programing page, after Amazon, Netflix etc. Is there a way to MOVE my VUDU to the main page so I do not have to scroll down to the 2nd page? THanks

Performance wise

Bolt vs Roamio Pro and or Roamio HD (basic?)

How does the Bolt compare in performance to the Roamio Pro.. Or the Roamio Basic (HD model with CC slot)

Is the Bolt faster, have all the HD menus been finished? Does it do something the Roamio doesn't other than support 4K!!

I'm trying to decide of I want/need a Bolt but I'm having a hard time selling myself on it, help me out here folks..

Thanks...

Where is my Youtube app?

New here. Coming from Windows Media Center, I purchased a Roamio Basic last September and have been enjoying it. I have been using the DVR functions and no apps. I looked for youtube app and it is not there? (Went to Tivo>Finde TV, Movies, & Videos and I find HBOgo and Hulu and no more. I believe that where Youtube should be located.

Do I need to download or do something in order to get the app to appear.

Thanks!

S-P-S-30-S 30-second skip removed from Bolt?

Hey Gang. I'm a serious n00b to the community (but not to forums); I look forward to participating in the forums! My apologies if this has been asked before but I think I searched pertty thoroughly; if this question has been asked before, I certainly can't find it.

I received my new Bolt a few days ago, and have set it up as an OTA device (I'm a cord-cutter, for now). What I'm having difficulty with is enabling the venerable Select Play Select 3 0 Select hack that I've used ever since prehistoric paintings of early TiVos hunted by cavemen in the savanna were discovered in France.

So where'd it go? I despise commercials so much that skipping them entirely in one fell swoop has to do because I cannot light each one on fire.

So whaddaya say, gang? Where'd the S-P-S-30-S hack go?

Cheers!

TiVo Central Thumbnails

The thumbnails for my shows started going missing this past week and a half or so, defaulting to the generic images. Now they are all gone, even in my One Passes or from any searches. Anyone else notice this?

A couple ideas.

Just watched an Xfinity review. That box has 2 HDMI inputs, which is nice. 2nd...hitting the 'last' button shows you the last 10 channels you watched including on demand and recorded shows. I remember an old remote I had kept going back every time you hit previous or last.

WD My Book TiVo Extender

I finally got around to add my old WD external extender to my new Bolt. I had used the WD with my Romio before, prior to selling the Roamio last year.

My Bolt does not recognize it. Any idea what's going on? I am using e-satta connection, just like before.

Can I stream from my original Premiere?

It seems that the Tivo Online is only for 4-tuner Premieres. I want to do in-home streaming of our original Premiere.

I don't want another Tivo, since I have lifetime on the Premiere and 2TB storage.

If Tivo Online streaming won't work, due to the limitation of the streaming devices only working with a 4-tuner Tivo, my only other thought was that I could pull the shows and dump them onto our Plex server. But this seems a little bit convoluted....

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Trouble-shooting Suggestion for MSFR

I prepped a 6TB WD Red HDD for my new Roamio OTA yesterday. MSFR works great and is a lot faster than I expected.

Just be aware that if you use a USB drive dock; your computer may not recognize the TiVo drive in a way that MSFR can see it. I encountered this problem. I simply swapped the internal SATA & power connectors from one of my data drives to the TiVo drive. My Corsair case allowed me to do this without even removing the installed data drives - I just popped off the cables and connected them to the TiVo drive. Now it helps that this particular computer has about 6 HDDs in it.

Question for networking gurus.

Current set up in short: (and repeated eight times)
(Equipment Room) Cox Cable Internet Wifi/Modem/Router (Netgear 6300) -> 10/100/1GB Generic Hub -> Cat6 through walls -> (Media Room) 10/100/1GB Generic Hub -> Tivo(or Mini) Box.

The above works great as long as I have working cable connection.

Being in Kansas and storm season is upon us.. When I loose cable connection I lose my networked Tivo's! With a MINI as the main viewing device in the living room.

Is there anything I can add/change so that the Tivo's are not dependent on the cable box for my internal DHCP. Maybe something like a "PI" box (prefer something pre-built) to be my internal DHCP device.

I thought of maybe even setting a static IP address but.. when I unplugged the cable between the 'Cable Modem' and the first hub the network went down..

And due to the number of splinters and RF amp's a MOCA set up would not work as the signal is being blocked somewhere in my RF set-up.

Any suggestions?

((Not only do I have Tivo's at the final hubs I also have Blu-Rays, Smart TV's, computers))

how many streams, simultaneously?

With a Roamio Pro, how many simultaneous streams are allowed from remote locations? I tried to watch something, remotely, at the same time as my wife was, but only one stream was allowed. Is that correct, only one, remote stream per Roamio?

FREE (Sorta) TiVo Premiere 4HD

FREE (Sorta) TiVo Premiere 4HD for parts or you can replace the hard-drive! (and no remote as I am keeping it!)

I was getting more and more playback errors and from reading the forum everything pointed to a failing harddrive!
For me it was just too much trouble to find and replace the hard-drive so I just purchased a new TiVo BOLT 500 GB

So if you want the DVR all I ask is you pay the shipping of approximately 11 pounds, which UPS tells me could cost $25.00  (I don't set the shipping rates UPS does.) for shipment with in the continental USA.

It has been removed from my account effective today.
And the current hard-drive has been wiped.

Banshee 5/20/2016 (S04E08) "Requiem"

I'd like to think that sometime soon we'd get a chance to see what sort of trouble Lucas Hood finds himself doing post-Banshee.

If you haven't already seen it make sure to watch post-credits as well as for the short goodbye from the case that airs immediately after.

Is online.tivo.com dog slow tonight?

I just wanted to delete some stuff without turning on the TV and I've got one folder displayed in "my shows" and a spinning circle for about 20 minutes now.

(Come to think of it, I was trying to check for updates for Windows 7 for a few hours earlier today and that never finished either - maybe some major backbone is having problems? Lots of other stuff works fine though).

Buffering while watching SD programs on Mini

I have a Roamio and two Minis. When I watch a Live TV SD program on a Mini, there is considerable buffering. I get around this by rewinding the program for about 30 seconds, then it plays just fine.

The problem does not occur when watching a recorded program (SD or HD), a Live TV HD program, or anything on the Roamio.

Any ideas why this is happening and how to correct it?

Best Way to Extend FIOS Network Without Impacting Roamio and Minis

Hoping that someone more network-savvy than me can help here. Current setup is FIOS 75/75 using Quantum router connected via coax. I have one Roamio and two Minis, all connected wirelessly since none are near the router. They all work fairly well, so that is not my issue. The issue is that I have dead spots elsewhere in the house (particularly with the 5GHz network) so I was hoping to somehow extend the network to provide better internet access to these spots. I have an Airport Extreme collecting dust that I would like to use but I would be willing to buy something else if necessary. Something like the Luma (or more expensive Eero) piques my interest but I'm not sure if this is compatible with my current setup or if it will maybe break the MoCA connection that currently allows my Minis to connect wirelessly. (I've probably butchered some of the terminology here but hopefully the gist of what I'm trying to do and what my concerns are is understandable.) I welcome any and all suggestions.

Charter Spectrum's HBO GO not working

Is anyone else's HBO GO using Charter Spectrum on TiVo not working?

MoCA and ADT Alarm System conflict?

More than a year ago I had a problem where a triggered alarm on my ADT system would kill my landline, which is provided by my cable company (Charter, if it matters). ADT said they'd had repeated issues with certain telephony-enabled cable modems. Charter didn't think so, but on replacement the issue disappeared.

A few months ago I added a MoCA adapter to my cable modem and began using MoCA on my Roamio Plus and a newly purchased TiVo Mini. I've been remiss in not testing my alarm system, but I recently triggered it by mistake and found that canceling the alarm at the panel caused my phone to show "no line" as it had done before. Since I haven't tested or triggered my alarm any time since the adapter was added, I don't know that there's any direct correlation, but...

So I'm wondering whether any of those here with more knowledge of MoCA than I have are aware of any issues or potential issues with the use of MoCA and alarm systems that rely on a cableco-provided landline.

Bolt and Mini

does anyone know if you can watch a recorded program on bolt and watch a different recorded program on mini at the same time?

Men Are Sabotaging The Online Reviews Of TV Shows Aimed At Women

I thought this was a pretty fascinating look at how men and women behave different when rating on IMDB. When online ratings on sites like IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes are used to prove a title's worth or even worse if network executives use them to decide what type of content to make, this could be problematic.

When you rely on the wisdom of the crowd on the internet, you risk relying on the opinion of mostly men.2 Seventy percent of IMDb TV show raters are men, according to my analysis, and that results in shows with predominantly female audiences getting screwed.

For a show with the IMDb average gender breakdown of 30 percent women and 70 percent men, men rated the show 0.5 points lower than women did, on average. When a show’s raters split evenly by gender, 50-50, men rated the program a full 1 point lower than women did.

Men gave their top 100 an average score of 8.2 but gave the top 100 female-skewed shows a mere 6.9 average ratings. Shows with more than 10,000 ratings are inherently popular and yet men thought the programs in that group that skew female were below average.
