Orphan Black 5/31/14 “Knowledge of Causes, and Secret Motion of Things”

Gloves with a missing finger. Oh, Alison, so thoughtful. And such empathy! But I see she couldn’t bring herself to decorate Donnie’s nametag.

Cal is Daario Naharis! I knew I knew him from somewhere.

Interesting surgical technique Frenchie has...

And yet again, during Cosima’s outburst I completely forgot it was the same actor as Sarah, Helena, etc.

“I may have spiked his tea.” :D I almost feel sorry for Vic with all the indignities he suffered. But hell, it’s Vic, so nah.

Siobhan and Dr. Leekie...that’s a meeting I didn’t see coming!

“This kind of cluelessness can’t be faked.” :D But it looks like maybe it can be.

And then Donnie goes all Pulp Fiction on Dr. Leekie.

Anyone else having problems with TiVo iPhone app?

I'm just trying to see if anyone else is having simile issues. I have a Roamio and a mini. However when I use the app are start to look at pretty much anything in the app, I get some sort of lost connection to the box. And i have to press OK and it tries to reconnect. It usually works, I have to reselect with device. But it will keep happening. Anyone else with this issue?? Thanks in advance.

Occasional SDV channelno audio

Recently been seeing a problem where on some sdv channels, I don't get sound when I tune to the channel. Usually, flipping back and forth a couple times fixes it, sometimes not though. Called TW and they said my signals are pretty low (RDC is 29 in the tuning adapter menu) so they are rolling a truck tomorrow but I'm assuming the tech won't know much about cable cards/tuning adapters. Hopefully they can boost the signal and it'll work but I was wondering if anyone has seen this before.

Thanks,

Mike

New House Bill Could Doom TiVo

This article is from April and may not be news to some, but the cable companies, lead by Comcast, want to do away with regulations for a single anti-signal-theft standard so they can get rid of independent set-top box makers like TiVo, Ruku, and Google:

http://ift.tt/1u0n3c0

Lobbyists for the bill have doled out over $38 MILLION, while TiVo has only mustered $700k. We need a grassroots movement like that of Net Neutrality to tell our lawmakers to protect the consumers, not the multi-billion dollar corporations.

Need advice for building a Tivo Roamio network

Coming back to Tivo after a few years with Directv (wife hates the Directv interface). I am looking to build a Tivo Roamio system in my new house. This would consist of multiple Roamios and multiple Minis. The house is wired with cat5 and coax at every potential tv outlet (10 total). Those lines all run to a large wall box with power outlets in a storage closet. My ideal setup would have three Roamios in the common areas and seven Minis in bedrooms/office. Each room that has multiple wired network devices (gaming included) would have an Ethernet switch.

Now for my questions...

Should I connect the Roamios and Minis all with the coax for a moca network? If so, how do I run the spitters so that all boxes can communicate with each other? Is that the more desirable setup? Is it faster? I don't want to bog down the Ethernet network with Tivo traffic unnecessarily. I assume I also connect Ethernet for Tivo guide data, web content, etc.

Can I have 10 Tivo devices on one network/account?

With three six-tuner Roamios I would need three multi-stream cablecards, correct? Are tuning adapters needed with the Roamios?

Is there a "best way" to setup the Minis for a scenario where all 10 TV's were on and tuned to a different live TV channel at the same time?

I currently have a Series 3 Tivo with upgraded storage and lifetime service. How will that work with the new system? Am I better off selling it? I am not too worried about the content on it since it's been little used for two years.

Today I have a cableco DVR hooked up that says "unable to record". I don't want to waste time with it. Luckily it's a slow week for TV programming. All advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Delete/Save Program Screen Freezes

After finishing a recorded program, the Delete/Save Program screen appears and will not respond to remote commands - either "up" to highlight "delete program" or "right" to save the program. The Tivo "sees" the command because the yellow light flashes on the front and, 24 seconds later the command is followed. I have never had commands ignored for so long and then executed.

I have unplugged everything and rebooted to no avail. Maybe related I am experiencing a C133 problem for the last day for undisclosed reasons.

Thank you for any help.

Crossbones - The Devil's Dominion - OAD 5/30/14

It has a decent cast and there is nothing else I watch on Friday nights. I'm in for now.

Long-term TiVo user reassessing his options (debating new unit)...

I've been a TiVo user since 2001, when I got a Series 1 that I hacked to get a larger hard drive. I eventually upgraded to a TiVoHD with a CableCard and have been reasonably happy ever since.

I used to be on Charter Cable, and eventually got onto Verizon FiOS. Until just recently, I haven't had any issues. But now I've hit my first MPEG4 channel that will not work with my TiVoHD, and it's making me rethink how I use my TiVo overall.

I'm watching less commercial TV - I actually downgraded my TV package with Verizon earlier this month - and am watching more streaming material. But there are certain sports that keep me tied to cable for now. The 120 GB hard drive in my TiVoHD frequently maxes out on certain weekends, which forces me to delete programs or offload them to my computer when I don't have the time.

So I'm trying to think about the pros & cons of upgrading to a new TiVo box. I'd appreciate it if those who have some recent experience with newer hardware could chime in and add their own items or point out things I have wrong.

Pros for Upgrading:

-- More responsive

-- More tuners

-- Much more built-in storage (I would probably look at the 1 TB version)

-- Can watch/record MPEG4 channels from provider

-- Has newer built-in features

-- Is currently supported

-- Is HD-native

Cons for Upgrading:

-- Spending $$$$ on new hardware

-- Unclear how stable current platform is

-- Not certain if I'd have to get a contract for service

-- Older platforms don't have pop-up ads

-- Still based on existing platform (meaning, needs tuning adapter, etc.)

Anything else I'm missing?

Portland area: Switching to FIOS easy?

Hi!

I'm moving into a new place that's pre-wired for FIOS. I have Comcast for now, but I want to switch to FIOS once finances stabilize from the move. Assuming the install goes perfectly, Tivo-wise, is it just a matter of swapping cablecards, or is there more to it? Any gotchas? :)

Thanks!

One HD Channel Won't Work

Hey everybody, my Tivo Premiere has a Cable Card and it's working perfectly except for one HD channel. The channel is my channel 11 CW HD station, and every other HD channel works perfectly including my premium channels.

I assume this is some kind of glitch, but it's been like this for weeks. I have rebooted the Tivo and it doesn't help, does anybody have any ideas?

Roamio Plus and mini to replace comcast boxes

I currently have Comcast dvr service and a digital box in our family and living rooms. I have 2 Premiere boxes on lifetime in our bedrooms.

I am considering dropping the comcast equipment for a Roamio Plus or Pro and a Mini in the room that we rarely watch TV in.

Any pros or cons to doing this? I will drop the cost of the digital box and I think we would get some sort of credit for the DVR since its already included in the package we have. I am also looking to renegotiate our service with Comcast in the near future.

Scratching my head on XL4 reboot/hang

About three weeks ago, my XL4 was stuck in a reboot and had to be power cycled several times to get it through the reboot. I figured it was the HDD and ordered a new one and planned to do a DVrBARS to clone it.

Well, I've had bad luck on getting a new wd20eurx as I've had two that didn't pass the wd diagnostics test. The third arrived today.

In the meantime I have had several instances of the same problem, maybe seven total. However, they all have happened overnight (early AM). What are the odds of this? So, I am thinking that maybe the crashes are happening when connecting to the TiVo server for program info?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

(Wish me luck, I'm about to start diagnostics on my third replacement drive tonight)

pyTivo No mp4 Files Show Under The Share

I am using the most recent version of pyTivo. I have the TSN, path to tivodecode, ffmpeg, and username and password setup. I reference a local drive on my mac, but can only get an mpg/.tivo file to show in the list when I navigate to the share on Roamio Plus/Pro.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Filo.

Using Roamio on weaker wi-fi signal?

I am about to buy a Roamio to replace an excellent S3 that uses phone line for guide info. I have wi-fi from AT&T but at back of home where Tivo goes it is about 50 feet away. Signal shows usually 2 bars on a PC and works, so is the wi-fi in the new Tivo real good on weaker signals? Can an external antenna be added?

OLD Sticky!

Anyone notice that the "Sticky" in this forum is like over 4years old?

A little outdated by now I think! Anyone else find it a little outdated?

Maybe time to "unsticky" it?

Just wondering.

Tivo Won't Recognize Comcast Digital Economy Channel Lineup

I have a Series 4 (Premier) using a Comcast cablecard. I switched from Comcast Digital Starter to their Digital Economy package, which includes fewer channels. However, my Tivo doesn't seem to know this, and still thinks I have those missing channels. So it shows certain shows as available, and tries to record them, but instead records blank space. Same problem when switching through the channels watching live TV. It doesn't seem to get this info from Comcast, and I don't see anything in the Settings to change the package manually. I could go through all the channels and uncheck the relevant boxes, but channels lineups occasionally change and I would prefer not to have to somehow keep up on changes and check/uncheck the channel boxes accordingly. Can this be fixed?

Thanks!

25th season of Amazing Race

Season 25 of the Amazing Race begins filming this Saturday in Times Square. The public can watch the start of the race. Only catch, the event is at 3AM.

Want to be a part of history? The 25th season of The Amazing Race starts this Saturday, May 31st at 3am EST in Times Square in New York City. Show your support and be a part of Amazing Race history by showing up to send off the teams with host Phil Keoghan.

Want a quick calculation for how many days you've spent watching TV?

I'm not sure this is really a good thing, but there is a website that allows you to enter a TV show, and it will tell you how many hours (days) you've spent watching that show. You can keep adding shows, and the number of hours (days) grows and grows. It's kind of frightening. I've blogged about it here, with a link to the site.

Comcast HD Box and TIVO Series II DT

I upgraded my std-def TV to an HD set and got a new cable box from Comcast (Motorola DCX3200 same as RNG 150N). I've had my Series II DT for 6 years working fine with Comcast, although I lost DT functionality several years ago in digital transition. The DCX3200 cable box has an HDMI output to the TV. It also has outputs for composite or component (no RF/coxial out!). My Series II could only take the composite. It would do me no good to connect to the cable wire coming from the wall before the Cable box because that signal is digital now.

I was going to output the composite signal from the box to my Series II and work with what I could get (only SD and only some channels). My main use of TIVO is just recording shows when I'm away and manipulating live TV. I can switch my TV to the DCX3200's HDMI input when I want live HD. I've had several people tell me that Comcast only allows 1 selection "out" from its boxes, and if I also use a composite out to my Series II they'll detect it, assume I'm trying to steal a signal and then brick my cable box. Any idea if that's true? Would I have any other options if it is true? (without new investment)

Thanks for any help you can give me.

series4: Can't record 2 analog shows

So confused. On our old TIVO we could do this. One VH1 show is recording and I am watching L&O SVU on USA. I tried to record it and it said it would have to stop recording the VH1 show. Huh? What am I missing here. This should be easily doable, right? I mean, I'm watching it, so I should be able to record it.

Thanks,

Stacy

TCD748000 bad HD

Does anyone have an image? Mine died and I need to image a new drive. The old drive tries to boot but it's cycling and never gets past "Almost There". When I run DvrBAR it says MFS volume header not found.

On Demand button on TiVo remote

So, the dog recently just ate our standard basic Premiere remote so looking to get a new one. I see one from Weaknees (ebay and Amazon), but in the picture, its labeled "Charter" and has a blue "On Demand" button. I am with Comcast, but will this OnDemand button work for anything related to my standard retail TiVo with Comcast? If so, what? Or is this maybe just a stock photo of some kind and they simply have the wrong picture?

Also, I am now getting Xfinity OnDemand through my Premiere & it works great, but not sure this blue button will activate this function in any way (thinking it won't). Maybe it does something else though.

Closed captions always on

Is anyone having a problem with the stream always displaying closed captions and no way to turn them off ? This is with iphone app v3.3.

How to import TiVo video into iPad?

Tivo is a digital video recorder that can automatically record TV shows for watching any time. It’s great popular because it can skip advertisements. Just imagine that you can import TiVo TV shows into iPad for anytime and anywhere watching. Does that sounds very attractive? Now here is the way to taking TiVo video on the go.

Aunsoft TiVo Converter for Mac is the easy and effective way to put TiVo video into iPad, iPhone, Apple TV or any other playback device as you wish.

You can skillfully use TiVo Converter with the quick guide below.

Click “Add” button or directly drag TiVo file into TiVo Converter.

Click “Format” box to choose device and format you want to converter to.

Adjust video quality and size in “Settings”.

Click “Start” to start conversion.

After the conversion, you can add the converted video with the suffix ”.mp4” to your iTunes video list and synchronize the list to your iPad. Then you can enjoy the TV shows you like.

You can also master the Windows version with the same easy operation.:)

Anyway to x-fer shows in a different house?

I have 2 houses and wanted to x-fer shows between them. Is there anyway to do that? One is a OLED Series 3 and the other is a Romeo and maybe a Premiere.

Disappointing experience with the stream

I am a happy tivo user, having switched back to tivo after being frustrated with the cable co dvrs. Recently, I took my annual business trip to India and didnt want to miss my favorite shows so I purchased a stream.

Setup was fairly simple, and I downloaded a bunch of shows in my house before i left to watch on the plane. Transfer speed were slower than i would have expected, but not totally unbearable. I watched all the downloaded shows on my flight with no issues whatsoever.

Once i reached India, the troubles began. Internet speeds in India are not near as good as in the US, but they are fair (DSL level speeds on average). I tried downloading shows from two of my offices, and my hotel. In all cases, transfer speeds were utterly abysmal. I could have lived with this, but whenever a show finished downloading, and i would then watch it, it would lock up at some point in the middle of the show while watching. It was definitely an issue with the downloading show as I could rewatch it and it would freeze/lockup at exactly the same point.

Any good app/hardware should have the ability to avoid issues such as this (corrupt files) Of the 20+ shows i downloaded during my trip, less than 5 were able to be watched all the way through. Soon as I got home, i downloaded again, and they worked fine. I also tried downloading a shot from a friends house in the US and it worked fine.

This was highly disappointing to me. Does anyone have any idea why the download recovery/reparing/file checking is so bad on the stream? I feel like I wasted my money on this device...

I have Verizon fios as my internet provider, so my connection is solid..

America's Got Talent (AGT) - season 9 (2014) Discussion (Spoilers)

Seems like the practice has been to have just a season-long thread for AGT.

This is taken from my blog:

Yes, I watch "America's Got Talent." It's summer, so, um, standards are different, or something like that. (Besides, it's not like I don't have any standards; after all, even I gave up on Fox's "I Wanna Marry Harry.")

My thoughts on the opening day auditions:

* the 9-year-old keyboard playing genius: In the seasons that I've watched (season 5 and later), the only kid who's gone really far was Jackie Evancho, so you have to wonder how well he'll do, but I expect he'll at least make it to the next round.

* the comedian: This dude was quite funny. Good snappy pace, a couple of connected themes to his jokes. If he's got the material, he should do well. I think he's at least as good as Tom Cotter, who finished second in season 7.

* the daredevil acrobat: Danger acts seem not to do that well on "AGT," so as good as he was, I don't see him in the finals. I'd expect him to make it to the next stage.

* Mr. Atom (the 93-year-old strongman): That takes some strong teeth to pull a car! I question whether he can show enough variety, apart from the novelty of accomplishing feats at his age, to keep getting votes.

* opera-singing sisters: Pretty unexpected singing voices; one might have expected more soul or country. They'll probably go deep.

* martial arts clowns: I was with the female judges on not seeing the talent here. Usually, I agree with Howard Stern. I'm kind of stunned that Howard would use his only golden save of the season on these guys. I'm not even sure they'll make it to the next stage.

* the dancers: Not my thing but they looked very graceful. They'll do well.

* the young guy singer: Meh. There are so many singing competitions that I just don't find singers all that special. But they do extremely well, having won most of the early seasons.

The highlight of the show, of course, was the mime who got four Xs and stood there with a confused look when handed a mic, but then all of a sudden started talking back, demanding of the judges, "Do you know how hard it is to stand there and stay silent? No, because all you do is talk!" And then he started laying into each of the judges. And then he stormed toward the panel . . . security was nowhere to be found . . . and the mime revealed himself as host Nick Cannon in whiteface.

Too many devices connected to my stream?

I have a TiVo Premiere and a TiVo Stream. I use the in-home streaming feature on my iPad Mini. Starting yesterday when I try to stream I get a message saying that the maximum amount of devices has been reached.

I only have that one device and my phone, my network is secure, so I think this is a fluke, especially since I rearranged my network recently I think there may be duplicate ip addresses cached in the stream.

I thought I saw somewhere that you can reset the stream so that it starts the count of devices connected to it over, but I can't find that. Any hints?

Almost 2 months and still no 20.4.1?

My Premiere Elite still reports the old OS version. :(

What does "Record New Only" mean?

I apologize if this has been covered before, and I'm sure it probably has, but try as I might, I couldn't find the right search terms to find previous discussions.

I'm brand new to using a Tivo and setup three different season passes last night and specified the record "New Only" option. Two of them, one for "The Daily Show" and another for "The Colbert Report" seem to act differently that the third one that was setup for "NCIS".

The "NCIS" SP seems to act as I would expect. It seems like it will only record a show if the "New" bit is set and "New" appears next to the title in the guide. I say this because I don't see anything in the "To Do List" for NCIS even though there is a rerun set to air on 6/3.

The other two SP's seem to treat new as if it means "new to this device". They are recording shows that do not display "New" next to the title in the guide, and do not appear to have the "New" bit set. The episodes that it is recording clearly have an "Aired date" in the past (e.g. 5/14/2014). But while it is recording episodes that are clearly not new, it is not recording repeats which are easily identified by the guests that are interviewed as well as the season and episode numbers.

So does the Tivo treat "New Only" differently depending on the type of show (e.g. drama versus talk show)?

upgrade offer - what happens to the TiVo you're upgrading?

Been a longtime TiVo owner, I have two HDs in service for longer than I've realized paying monthly, a series 2 and a premier:

- HD 6.95 monthly

- HD 12.95 monthly

- an old Series 2 humax in the basement with lifetime

- year old Premier 4 with lifetime.

I recently got one of those upgrade email offers for various Roamio packages + lifetime,

- Roamio + lifetime - $574.99

- Roamio plus + lifetime - $749.99

- Roamio pro + lifetime - $899.99

the deal say "Only valid for TiVo DVR TSN #", and references the premier. The question is, what happens to the Premier if I take this offer? It's not worth it if I lose the premier with lifetime.

I'm looking to upgrade the TV and TiVo currently hooked to the old humax w/ lifetime, and would probably just get the base Roamio model w/ lifetime. Wondering what my best option is. If I go to the TiVo shop site and purchase a roamio plus lifetime, it's $599.98, so the "deal" is only saving me about $25.

As a side note, thoughts on the HDs? should I bother trying to get $99 lifetime for them (or less if possible)? or should I try to get some new hardware deal with them and keep the monthly rates if possible? I should have tried to get the $99 years ago. I've more than paid them for these boxes! I don't have any immediate desire to get rid of them though - they work fine for my needs - just figured I'd use them til they died, but these things don't die (other than a hard drive replacement on one of them).

2 Roamio's A Stream and Premiere w/t lifetime (2tb)

Motivated seller, I have....

1 Roamio basic with 3tb drive upgrade and possible low monthly service fee transferred if bought before service ends ($9.95 monthly I think) $275 +actual shipping

1 Roamio basic not upgraded still has plastic wrap, $130 plus actual shipping

1 external Stream box $70 plus actual shipping

1 lifetime Premiere TCD746320 2 tuner with upgraded 2tb drive $240 plus shipping

1 Premiere TCD746320 2 tuner with a NEW upgraded 500mb drive, make me an offer, currently subscribed and when I cancel it, I suspect I will be offered $99 lifetime upgrade

1 Tivo bluetooth slide remote $40 or FREE if you purchase two or more of the above!

1 Tivo bluetooth slide remote without bluetooth USB dongle $20 or FREE if you purchase two or more of the above (except for the other slide remote)!

Open to offers if you are willing to buy two or more of these, the non-upgraded Roamio "might" have a service commitment however per my online account service ends 08/29/2014, the upgraded Roamio service is scheduled to end 08/25/2014 which if the lower grandfathered rate is to be transfered, new owner would need to assume it's plan by that date. I'm willing to extend the activation date if purchase can't be assumed by those dates but that will change the purchase price.

The upgraded drives are Western Digital AV drives, Roamio was new in March, the Premiere lifetime 2tb drive is a couple years old, the 500mb drive in the non-lifetime Premiere is dated 2012 however it was a new unused drive when I upgraded it.

I'm only selling these has I recently upgraded to a Roamio Pro and need to recoup my purchases in the two basics. Will accept PayPal or check which much clear prior to shipping. The upgraded Roamio has been in service since February and the other I purchased used and prior owner only used it for OTA and apparently didn't work well, it still has it's clear plastic wrap on it.

PM me if interested, I apologize if the above is confusing but wish to best describe everything best as possible, standard remotes, power cords included, along with component/composite cables if needed as I have rather large stash of them which I don't need. I would consider setting up a private eBay auction to assure your protection but would prefer to avoid the eBay fees if possible as that will increase the above stated prices. I'm located in central Missouri which if you are in this area, we can avoid shipping costs if you wish to meet in person and buy.

Will Premiere allow multiple HD outputs?

I recently got a Slingbox 350 at best Buy. Gonna pick it up today and was planning to connect it to a 2-tuner premiere I have in a guest bedroom in a basement. Right now, this Premiere is connected to an older 32" Sony CRT TV via a regular composite connection.

For now, I plan to then connect this Slingbox to the Premiere's component outputs. I may get an HDTV in this room soon so the plan would then be to have the Premiere hooked up to the HDTV via its HDMI connection and then still have its component outputs feeding the slingbox. Will this still work?

I only ask cause I see another thread in the TiVo Mini section saying that a recent update to the Mini has disabled multiple outputs of HDMI and component (via breakout cable) on the Mini. Its either one or the other (but still some problems). Will multiple HD outputs still work on the Premiere though & this is really more of a Mini issue (since it has the breakout cable)?

Tivo Mini plays content in the middle of the night

I have a Tivo Mini connected to my home computer and the audio is feeding into the 'line in' input on my PC. I have a multiple monitor setup and occasionally I switch the input on one my screens to the Tivo Mini so that I can watch TV at my desk. I just got this set up a couple of days ago and during the day it works very well for me.

The problem is that in the middle of the night I will suddenly start hearing audio coming from my computer speakers because the Tivo Mini starts playing content unsolicited. If I forget and leave my computer volume turned up high it is very startling and unwelcome.

For instance at 4AM this morning I was awoken by my Tivo Mini. I had not used the Mini at all yesterday and hadn't really thought about it. I worked at my computer in my home office and apparently I left my PC at full volume when I finished for the day. Typically not a problem since my computer doesn't generate any audio when I am not at my desk. Anyway, at 4AM my speakers started blaring audio because the Tivo Mini started playing a show of some kind. Weird. Does anyone understand this behavior? Do you think the Mini is rebooting or something?

I really want to stop it from doing this because I don't always remember to mute the volume on my PC at night and this issue is upsetting me and my wife as we have been woken up by the Tivo Mini the last two nights.

Roamio Setup in Cincinnati

I've been reading copious quantities of forum posts over the last five days. Mostly to prepare myself for setting up my first Tivo, but also as a last chance for someone to talk me out of not getting a cable DVR and buying a Tivo. I have to admit, though the forum reading didn't convince me not to buy a Tivo, it did fill me with much trepidation concerning the cable card / tuning adapter setup.

The day started with me going to the TWC office to pickup my "easy setup kit". In and out in 20 minutes, despite the fact there were five people in line ahead of me. The TWC clerk gave me a cable card and tuning adapter that both appeared to be used, so my trepidation level only increased.

Next stop was Best Buy to purchase a Roamio Basic. They matched the Amazon.com price. In and out in 10 minutes.

Next stop was Microcenter Mall to pick a cable modem. I purchased it online for store pickup, so I was in and out in 5 minutes.

At home, my first task was to setup the TWC internet connection. This was way easier than I thought it would be. After connecting the cable modem to the coax and connecting a computer to the cable modem, I hit the TWC website on another computer which was using the internet connection through CB Fioptics. Found the page for activating cable modems and started a chat with TWC. They asked identifying questions and then asked for the MAC address of the cable modem. The whole chat probably took 20 minutes, but most of that time I was just waiting for the tech to do stuff on his end. At the end of the chat, my cable modem was connected to the internet, sort of. It was actually connected to a proxy that sent me to the TWC account setup page no matter what URL I typed in. After setting up an email address and accepting TWC terms & conditions, my internet connection was complete.

Next came the Roamio setup. I connected the tuning adapter to the coax. Connected it to the Roamio via USB and coax. Put the cable card into the Roamio and connected the Roamio to the TV. And then powered both up. The Roamio powered up and gave me the option of "cable card setup" or "guided setup". I chose the cable card setup option and then called the national TWC cable card setup phone number. The nice lady on the other end of the phone had me look at several of the Roamio cable card information screens. On the "CP" screen the "renew" value was something like 800000 seconds. Since that was clearly way too long to wait for the Roamio to look for a CP auth, she had me pull out the cable card and reinsert it. After that the renew value was 360 seconds. Once she confirmed that the CP status was "waiting for CP auth" she said I should be good to go in about five minutes and that I could go ahead with the "guided setup" and by the time I completed that the cable card should be active. I have to say that I was more than a bit dubious and fully expected to be calling her again.

The guided setup probably took 10 minutes to complete. When it was done, I started checking out channels and they were all there. The cable card / tuning adapter setup had literally only taken five minutes on the phone.

The next step was to activate the Roamio guide service, but before I did that, I played around with the Roamio a little bit and noticed a couple things that you don't appear to be able to do without the guide service activated that wouldn't seem to be at all related to the guide services:

  • Pressing "Live TV" multiple times does not switch between the tuners.

  • After pressing "Info" the channels to which the tuners are tuned do not appear

  • You cannot set a manual recording since the "Manage my recordings" option does not appear on the Tivo screen.

Activating the Tivo was relatively painless. I did it via the website. The final screen of the activation process said that it might take up to 24 hours for my Tivo to recognize the activation. Being the impatient person that I am, I went to the Tivo and forced a connection. Interestingly enough, some things seemed to become active on the Tivo quicker than others. Even after the "Manage recordings" option appeared on the Tivo screen, pressing the "Guide" button still said that the service wasn't activated. Even after information appeared on the "Info" screen for the channel I was watching, pressing the "Guide" screen still said the service wasn't activated. Finally the Guide appeared. The time between me noticing the first items, and the Guide actually appearing was probably 3-4 minutes. Strange.

So in less than six hours, I bought a Roamio and cable modem, installed them and had working internet and DVR. I post this just so others that might be in my position, wondering whether mixing a Tivo with TWC cable service is a good idea, can see a really positive experience. :):) It CAN be as simple as plug-and-play. No guarantees though. Read as much of this forum as you can and you'll be prepared even if it doesn't go as smoothly as it did for me.

One other tidbit. While I was talking to the TWC clerk, he said, completely unsolicited by me, that he was hoping that TWC in Cincinnati would have IP tuning capability ready by the end of the year so that the tuning adapters can be retired. He didn't give any source for his "hopes" but if the TWC employees are talking about it maybe it will happen.

NBC Brian Williams interview with Edward Snowden - 5/28/14

Full title: NBC News Exclusive with Brian Williams: Inside the Mind of Edward Snowden

Will be on 5/28/14 @ 10 pm on NBC.

NBC Nightly News was promoting it and aired a brief clip. The text at http://ift.tt/1tNi0vt is basically what the news covered + a little more.

Anyone going to watch? I've got my TiVo set to record it.

Fargo "Who Shaves the Barber?" OAD 2014-05-27

Just as I was saying, "Nobody has been killed in this one yet (except the head of the real estate office)...

Not only should Key and Peele have kept their eyes Peeled better, the Fargo crew should have heard the gunshots from downstairs.

The guy had to have told Fargo that Malvo was in Duluth.

I rewatched and what I thought was Molly's blood was the earflap on her hat.

Is anyone watching The World Wars on History?

I'm amazed by the things I've learned so far. Especially about Patton, Hitler and Churchill.

Need Advice re Roamio Problem

Today all programs started jittering, recorded and "live." I have an external hard drive but disconnected that and the live program continued to display the same behavior. Jerkiness, like lost frames, sometimes pixilation. Multiple reboots did not fix, but after 5 reboots, currently back to normal. Thoughts? It's nine months old. Any warranty left? Thanks

Need Roamio Purchase Advice

With one exception, I need none of the additional features provided by the Roamio Plus or the Roamio Pro beyond those of the basic Roamio. However, I would like to have more than the Roamio’s “up to 75 hours of HD” storage capacity. I assume that by connecting an external hard drive to the Roamio’s “External Storage” port the storage capacity will be increased accordingly.

Q1. What exactly constitutes a “TiVo-verified external hard drive” (e.g. would a 500-Gb Seagate USB 2.0 FreeAgent SATA Hard Drive, m/n ST305004FDA2E1-RK qualify?)

Q2. Does the Roamio use the external drive only when the internal storage is maxed out, or does it use the external drive first, or some other scheme?

Q3. Also, can the Roamio send its output signal to one TV from the HDMI port while simultaneously sending the same signal to a second TV via the composite output?

So You Think You Can Dance Season 11 (spoilers OK)

SYTYCD Season 11 starts Wednesday 5/28. Nigel Lythgoe is making noises as if Fox is seriously considering ending the show after this season, but I don't see it happening as long as it gets decent summer ratings.

A couple of changes this year:

First, no more "plane tickets to Vegas" - Vegas Week is now in LA somewhere. I wonder how they're going to handle this at the LA auditions.

Second, in each of the four audition city episodes, there will be two "dance crews" shown; viewers send Twitter tweets with one or the other's hashtag, and the one (out of all eight, I presume) with the most tweets gets to perform in the show's finale. Note that there was zero mention of this in any official audition announcement.

New Updated IOS7 TiVo App

TiVo app now plays YouTube, Facebook video to TV or phone

Dave announced an update to the IOS app today... It definitely has a different flatter look than what we were used too and some added features.

As of yet it does not appear to support stream over cellular - but I do like the Facebook and Youtube video integration quite a bit.

Problem with Netflix app on Roamio only

I'm not really sure where this problem is, but it only happens with my roamio, so I'm posting here for troubleshooting suggestions.

New to netflix. Set up the account on the roamio and mini last week, and did some watching on another tv over the weekend. Came home and wanted to watch on roamio.

The Panasonic non-smart TV connected to the roamio is > 5 years old but is 1080p. I can get the specs if necessary.

When I either start the netflix app from the what to watch screen, or if I go into a show and pick to watch it on netflix the same thing happens. The netflix start screen looks fine, I pick my profile, and the home page for the show looks fine. But when I start to play the show it displays it in the top left corner of the tv screen (a bit more than 1/4 total area) and no sound. All the other displays up to this point had been full screen.

When I go to my mini on another tv (a new tv which is also 1080p) I can play the netflix shows without a problem- full screen and audio function correctly.

The roamio tv is not a smart tv, but through the bluray player I can use its netflix app and get the playback to work, but this is an old app and doesn't have profiles, and since this is my daughter's account I would prefer to keep my viewing separate from hers.

I've logged into netflix and looked at the settings for my profile, the playback is set to auto. I think this is what I would prefer to leave it at, as I will be using a variety of devices with different internet speeds. I also saw tips on setting the roamio to only use one output resolution/frequency, and I will try that. But my symptoms don't match those which had this solution.

Does anyone have an idea what my problem might be?

What to do after update

This is the first update that we have gotten sense I bought this Tivo. The message we got was that the channel list has changed. How do I go about getting the channels updated without losing our season passes? Sorry to sound so dumb, but it has taken me several months to get all of our shows back recording. Thanks for your time,

Tony

Unable to transfer programs longer than one hour from Tivo HD to Tivo Premiere

I have a Tivo HD and Tivo Premiere DVR. They share a wired connection (CAT 5e) to a Linksys WRTAC1900 router. I can access each DVR from either Tivo without issue.

Transfers from the Tivo Premiere work fine. Whenever I try to transfer programs from the HD Tivo to the Tivo Premiere, any program longer than one hour will stop at about one hour and fifteen minutes into the program and not finish. Sometimes the Tivo Premier's blue transfer light will remain on for days as it tries to complete the transfer. At other times, the Premiere will abort the transfer on its own and delete the incomplete program. This problem occurs with standard and high definition programming. I have an OTA antenna so all recorded programs are broadcast on network TV (no cable).

Note that all Tivo HD to Tivo Premier transfers succeed if the program is an hour or less.

I have tried three different routers to no avail. I'm trying to purchase a copy if Tivo Desktop to see if I can transfer the 2 hour plus programs to a PC.

I worked with Tivo Tech Support to try and resolve the issue. Both DVRs connect to Tivo for service updates without problem. Power cycling the router and Tivos did not help either. When I mentioned there was a network switch between the Tivos and the router, Tech Support said I would need to remove the switch and connect each Tivo directly to the router. Unless I go to a wireless connection, that won't be possible since my network supports a number of wired devices.

Has anyone encountered an issue like this before?

Time display on screen

Anyone else notice that the ability to display the time on the screen is no longer working? :( It was a remote code (select, play, select, 9, select) that you could enter from the mini guide screen on live TV. It displayed a clock on the screen while watching live TV and also a counter while watching recorded shows.

can a TiVo Premiere Series4 work without cable?

I got a tivo for $30 at the goodwill and was wondering if it will work without cable. I tried to do it but I don't know how.

Email verification?

I created a new account a couple days ago and used my outlook.com email address. Despite repeated attempts, across multiple days, I never received an "email verification" message from the forum, and thus was unable to reply to threads or create new threads. I even checked my junk folder and found nothing from the forum. Today I changed my email to use one of my other email addresses, which uses a different domain, and I received the "email verification" message from the forum immediately.

Is there a reason I can't use my outlook.com email address for the tivocoummunity.com forums?

Product Cycle: Now the Time to Buy?

Loooooooooooong time TiVo user here. Been using a DirecTiVo for the last few years but we are finally cutting the cord with DirecTV and going OTA.

I noticed that the Roamio line came out last summer, and I'm wondering if this would be the wrong time to buy a Roamio. Does anyone know if there is a new generation due to come out soon? Would I be better off waiting for a few more months? Has TiVo signaled whether their future products will support OTA?

Season Pass thinks shows in 1989 are new!

Hey guys I have a Season pass setup for new only shows of Cops on Spike channel but it keep recording shows in 1989 as new shows. Is this a bug for Tivo to fix or is there a setting I'm missing?

Thanks

TK

Crisis. Should I keep watching?

I know it has been cancelled but are we gonna see any type if conclusion. I know it was pulled from may sweeps but it popped up again last night.

MasterChef - season 5 USA premiere - May 26

kind of excited for this tonight

trailer

http://ift.tt/1w9KbqA

Graham Elliot has lost a lot of weight

but from the trailer here it looks like they might be going for more drama this season

http://ift.tt/Ji4xEj

hopefully it's just a few scenes

what I like about MasterChef is that its not Hells Kitchen

it focuses more on the cooking and less on the "reality" / contestant squabbles

Music Contestant Performances on YouTube

Is there any reason why music performances from the various television contests (e.g., American Idol, The Voice, etc...) rarely include the judges comments? Are there legal reasons for this? Or do the uploaders just figure that people are interested in watching/listening to the song and are not interested in the judges comments?

I hadn't read something on the internet about some comments that Adam made during a previous season of "The Voice", and was interested in hearing them...but his comments are not available on YouTube as far as I can tell... And I have noticed the absence of judges' comments in general and thought I'd as here... :)

The Normal Heart *Spoliers*

Has anyone seen this HBO movie yet?

It tells the story of the starting of the Gay Men's Health Crisis organization in NYC.

Fantastic cast. powerful riveting performances, especially out of Mark Ruffalo, Jim Parsons and Julia Roberts.

I see lots of Emmys next yer.

I've lost a couple of friends to AIDS in the 80's so this movie touched me.

It's like a condensed "Angels in America"

Very powerful.

The Wil Wheaton Project

Hey folks. I have set a season pass for The Wil Wheaton Project and my tivo is showing every episode as new. I know this isn't the case. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Problem connecting to steaming device

I am out of the US using my 2 iPads to stream TV from my 2 Tivo units which has been working pretty flawlessly, until yesterday.

I CAN connect to both Tivo units and see all the programs recorded and ones being recorded but when I try to watch I now get a message "There was a problem connecting to streaming device" and says I should "start setup" but setup fails each time. Same problem occurs on both iPads. I've rebooted both iPads, with no success.

If I were on a short trip I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm going to be away for three more months. I've checked network at home(remotely) and here and both are over 30mbps.

Any suggestions?

Don will be back for real. Will it last?

Sally is turning out to be a hottie.

V82 mini error

am getting a v82 error on my mini which is connected to a roamio. i cannot access recordings nor live tv.

F1 recording

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm failing to record F1 via my existing season pass that worked like clockwork for the 2013 season.

Isn't the point of the Tivo to enable season pass recording regardless of channel or time?

Any tips? I note that the Monaco GP was on TEN last night, (not ONE as usual) and it didn't record.

I keep adding season passes when I manually record, but it is only valid for the round of the F1 (eg. for Formula One - Spain 2014)

Real useful. Any ideas?

Mike

Tivo Roamio vs. Channel Master DVR+

I'm looking for something to replace my Samsung DTB-H260F HD tuner (I'm strictly OTA for TV) that recently died. I've read a lot about the Channel Master DVR+, and I have some concerns about the experiences some people have had with it. On the pro side, it's pretty inexpensive and they say the picture is great and the user interface is good. On the con side, some people have had glitchy recordings, the remote is somewhat awkward, and the firmware may be an issue. I have a Series 1 Tivo with lifetime (yes, it still works just fine) so I thought I'd check out the Roamio. On the pro side, I like the Tivo interface (and I assume the Roamio's is similar), and I haven't seen any disappointment with how it works. On the con side, it costs more (with service). Does anyone have experience with both these devices? Or can you give me any guidance on your recommendation? Thanks.

pyTivo. Need help connecting

Just installed pyTivo on a new Windows 8.1 machine using the latest builds of pyTivo, python, and ffmpeg.

But I don't see my shares on the Tivo.

Here's my pyTivo.conf:

ffmpeg = C:\pyTivo\bin\ffmpeg.exe

[_tivo_SD]

[_tivo_HD]

[MyMovies]

path = C:\TivoMovies

type = video

And here's what I see in the python window when I start pyTivo:

pyTivo:Last modified: Mon Apr 21 12:36:46 2014

pyTivo:Python: 2.7.6

pyTivo:System: Windows-8-6.2.9200

pyTivo: pyTivo is ready.

What am I missing?

P.S. I don't know how to get a pyTivo log.

Thanks,

2nd Roamio DVR

Will a second Roamio Unit, share info with the main Roamio Plus in the living room, NOT over Moca...(If not, how...???)

Roamio Deleting Recordings

Yesterday Afternoon, my DVR was 92% full, then I noticed a little later it was 82% full. I looked in the recently deleted folder, there were no recordings. Last night before went to bed, after watching some shows, it was 78%. when I woke up this morning, it was 68%.

What could be causing this?

Roamio suddenly useless?

My tv just died. I won't be able to replace it for at least a few months (Probably not until at least September). I don't have one I can borrow either. I also don't have an iDevice, just my Android phone. I take it my Roamio Basic is pretty much useless for the time being?

HELP: Welcome! Starting up... - possible hard drive issue

Hi everyone - hoping for some suggestions on any possible Roamio recovery. Have had a Roamio Pro for several months. I replaced the hard drive day one with a 2TB Seagate Pipeline HD I had used successfully in my 4XL. A few weeks ago, started having issues during show playback where it would hang for 20-30s then start again. Yesterday, woke up to "Welcome! Starting Up" screen. Powered off and back on successfully. Now this morning, I can't seem to get past it. It goes from "Welcome! Starting Up" to the "Almost There" screen then back to "Welcome! Starting Up."

Am I sunk? Is it possible that there's some underlying chkdsk or similar process happening that needs to complete? Is there anything else I can do? I'm fine with replacing the drive, but I'd desperately love to grab my season passes and any recoverable shows from the current one.

Thanks!

Orphan Black 5/24/14 “To Hound Nature In Her Wanderings”

Ah, sisterly bonding on a camping trip. “I’m very good with children.” :D

Alison and Victor in rehab together.. that’ll end well! Although now that Vic’s a practicing Buddhist, maybe he’ll be a real help to her. Uh huh, it could happen. Oh, wait, he’s a narc.

Sarah to Helena: “Just don’t cause any trouble.” That’ll end well!

Helena hanging out in a redneck bar...that’ll end well!

Felix and Vic, ace detectives. That one actually might end well!

Note to self: When Helena is dancing, don’t cut in.

More pieces of the puzzle. Still not sure how they all fit together, but they seem to be drifting in that direction.

More Tatiana amazitude, especially in the road trip with Helena scenes.

Major Roamio Basic Issues (Dying box?)

I do not know what is going on with my Roamio. When I came home from work and attempted to delete a couple recordings a wishlist picked up, I noticed that the shows were not deleting in the normal fashion. The got the X next to their titles and just continued to sit there.

This didn't seem like any real issue until I attempted to play a recording and the screen went black. I waited several minutes and nothing happened. My wife then walked in and noted that it did this twice today and she had to pull the plug to bring it back. I did that and all was working well. I sacrificed a program to test my ability to delete and I could. We then sat down to watch an episode of The Americans and did.

Upon finishing the show, my wife noticed some scenes from a movie in the spoiler window and was intrigued. I attempted to go in the show's info to find a future airing to record it, but the option was missing. Next I went into the guide and manually found a future airing set for tomorrow, but it wouldn't react to my trying to record it. I also could not bring up any info and everything above the raw guide data (where there is normally program info, I think) was just blue and blank. From here I tried to play a recording and it went black. I left it for ten minutes before rebooting.

So to recap, at some point early into my Roamio's on cycle I lose the ability to do anything but look at the guide, to delete shows, or to play back a recording. There may be more limitations that I haven't found yet. It may be playing a recording that triggers the failures after, or it could be time. I am not sure yet.

What should I do here?

Cast from YouTube to TiVo Premiere

I was going to cast a YouTube video to my TV using my Chromecast, and the cast icon gave me the option to cast to my TiVo instead.

It doesn't work exactly the same as to the Chromecast (You manage playback with the TiVo remote rather than via YouTube on the PC) but it was still quick and convenient. Plus I didn't have to switch the input back to the TiVo.

Apparently you can cast YouTube to the TiVo from a mobile device as well...

Random Pixelation...very weird.

Very weird problem. My TiVo premiere is stuttering and having pixelation problems during recording playback (occurs randomly and for fraction of sec). Live tv is fine. Recorded commercials are fine. Only occurs during playback of show. Notice it most on CW and NBC. Both are operated by same local station. Is it possible that my local NBC affiliate is doing something to their broadcasts?

10 day Cancel on Mini's...??

Does the policy of Tivo's 10 day trial period extend to the Mini's..?? I was on the fence between the mini or Fios set top box for the bedroom (HD)..If the mini sets up moca with no hassles I would keep it, if not I would go for the set top box..I dont have time to tweak, set up and run.....

Password

I need to enter a password to reset my TiVo, I have just brought a new hard drive, but my TiVo is locked, and I don't remember the password...

Thanks in advance.

TiVo Series 3 died -- can I move the hard drive to another Series 3?

I thought the problem was the power supply, as it has some bulging capacitors, so I bought a replacement from Weaknees. But it still won't boot up, so either it's the hard drive or the motherboard. I'll remove the hard drive and test it later.

If the hard drive is good, and I bought a used Series 3 with lifetime and put the hard drive in it, would I be able to watch the recordings? I have over 100 hrs of recordings and I'd hate to lose them.

Romio Pro and Minis and DSL

Hello,

I have seen a few posters ask a similar question but I could not find an answer to my set up question. Sorry if I overlooked it.

I currently have a Romio Pro wirelessly connected to a Verizon DSL ( no FIOS option in my area ) router. I use cable for my TV service. Router is on a differnt level of the house than the Romio and is in a room without a cable connection.

My plan is to add 1 or 2 Minis in the next few months. Both would be in locations that would not be feasible to connect by Ethernet cable to the Pro nor the router.

Can I leave the Pro wirelessly connected and enable the Ethernet bridge to connect the mini(s) ? If not can I use MoCA adapters if the router is in a room without access to a cable connection ?

Thanks for any experience or advice

Amazon purchases and changing Tivo's

I have Amazon movie purchases downloaded to my Roamios'. I'm preparing to deactivate them and replace them with a new Roamio Plus.

There was once a thread about Amazon purchases were someone stated that if you delete a Amazon purchase (and permanently delete it from deleted items) that such content will be available again to download later.

Since there is a limit on downloads once a Amazon title is purchased, I'm reluctant to delete such as I'm not sure if I follow how Amazon knows if a title is permanently removed from a Tivo.

Can anyone confirm?

Transferring .Tivo Files Back to Roamio Pro = Sluggish Live TV

I just realized that I did not set keep until I delete for Season 4 of the Walking Dead and it isn't on Comcast VOD. Episodes 1-6 are missing, but I have the .Tivo files on my mac.

I installed pyTivo and the Roamio Pro can see the files. When I start to transfer back from the mac, Live TV is impacted, with choppy picture and even freezes saying it is looking for signal.

I suppose I could transfer them when going to bed, but thought I would check here for a better solution. Is there a better way that doesn't impede live tv or a way to stream the .tivo back to a Tivo box without having to transfer the whole 5-6 gig file?

Thanks,

Filo

V52 Error on 1 of 2 Tuners

I have a two tuner Premiere that just started having a problem with one of the tuners. It had been working fine since the cablecard was first installed. My Premiere has software version 20.4.1.

Suddenly, I can only use tuner 1, which gets all of my channels. Tuner 0 shows a V52 error on all cable channels, both standard and HD.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but at about the time this issue started, the Tivo rebooted itself a couple of times while wathching live tv.

I have tried several times to both restart the box and to reseat the cablecard and still have the issue.

I decided to hook up an antenna to test and was able to receive over the air channels on both tuners. Then the next day, I got V53 errors on all but one over the air channels on tuner 0, while all over the air channels work with tuner 1.

I haven't had a chance to call Comcast yet, but if I am having similar issues with the same tuner using an antenna, could it even be related to the cablecard?

I have a Roamio as well and have no issues on that box.

Anyone experience something similar or any suggestions if there is anything else I should try before trying to call Comcast? I haven't had best of experiences dealing with Comcast in the past.

Thanks!

TiVo Premiere 4 Failure - Doesn't Respond To KickStart

Maybe it's not getting far enought in the boot process?

Set up season pass but not record entire show?

Is there anyway to set up a season pass, but purposely not have it record the entire show? What I'd like to do is have a season pass set up to record Jimmy Kimmel Live, but I only want it to record new episodes, only record of its actually on, and only record the opening monologue (I don't want the interviews and stuff because of space issues). Is there anyway to do this?

Signed into nextflix with wrong email address-how to fix??

Recently joined the Roamio family and when I tried to sign into netflix the first time I used my old email address but realized after that my current account is tied to my new email address... But I can't seem to figue out how to sign out under the old ID and back in under the current, active one.

Any suggestions? It sucks because I've been having to run my PS3 to use netflix but now that I have this I'd love to just run it right from the tivo box...

MOCA assistance roamio to elite

Sorry if this has already been answered I searched the forums and didn't find information, I have spent time with TiVo both online and on the phone to try to fix also contactED weaknees and have had no luck so far...

- I have (had MOCA) running from a Roamio Pro (connected to a router/comcast modem via ethernet) as the MOCA "bridge"

- A TiVo elite is in another room and "connected" to the Roamio bridge

The above arrangement has worked fine (I.e. Streaming, "seeing" content on either TiVo and watching those shows without issues.) The MOCA has been working since we installed the MOCA and Roamio about two months ago. There has been 1 a 2 drops in that time but a reboot and repeating moca settings process fixed the drops.

About 5 days ago the Elite stopped "seeing" the Roamio MOCA. We still have access the all cable channels the season passes and related content however the elite is not seeing the Roamio MOCA. I have followed recommended steps including reboot of both tivos, reboot modem/router, repeat moca set ups after reboots still no luck. I also moved the Elite to another room and another connection and still no luck seeing the ROAMIO MOCA.

Any ideas?

Bad cable? (Elite doesn't work in two different areas...)

Bad cable "feed"?

Software issue?

Bad internal moca on Elite?

Any appreciable difference in UI speed between Roamio models?

I've got a Premiere XL4 and a Roamio Plus and the latter is significantly faster.

So I'm about to replace an aging S3 (could be the drive ready to die) and I'm wondering which Roamio to get. Given the two upper models don't have OTA I'm leaning toward getting the basic unit and possibly putting a larger drive in it. Given how readily the Roamio units handle playing content from each other it's sort of unnecessary to get a 6 tuner unit. We only rarely exceeded the 2 tuners in the S3 and I don't think ever used all six. So four tuners and an retain OTA recording seems like a reasonable choice.

They're all on wired ethernet, no wifi or MOCA networking.

I should also point out that I have a Mini and don't like the lack of multiple live tuners (or at least not the easy ability to flip between them without losing buffers). We keep that one in the guest room, paired with the kids rec room Premier XL4. That and I also have a Tivo Stream on the network, but don't really bother making use of it. I've yet to bother with playing content remotely so that's not a critical feature.

So really it boils down to the question of whether the UI speed (and other software features) on the basic unit is on-par with the others. Anyone with both a basic and Pro care to chime in?

Upcoming 2014 summer update speculation?

Anyone want to speculate what this summer has in hold for the update? The field test email messages appear to have been sent out, at least I have received one which I haven't responded to yet. Granted once the NDA is set you can't really comment so I thought I would bring it up, for myself to participate I may have to put the original drives back into my Roamio's which won't be too bad since this coming weekend I'm replacing my basic Roamio with a Pro.

Other than possible Android Stream support, anyone care to speculate what the summer has in hold for Tivo users?

Roamio Basic - Heat Issues

Looking for some advice (or maybe reassurance) concerning the heat generated by my basic 4-tuner Roamio. [FYI - I receive OTA signals from a rooftop antenna via the coax connection. Internet is via an ethernet cable.]

When using the Roamio for playback or Netflix streaming, the coax connection gets quite hot! When the unit is idle the connection is cooler, but remains much warmer than expected. If I remove the coax cable overnight, the coax connection is still very warm. The right top of the unit is always warm, even after prolonged idle time. Gentle heat can be felt coming from the right side vents at all times. The unit always makes a whispering sound.

Should I ask Tivo for a replacement, or is this normal? The unit operates OK, but I am concerned about longevity with so much heat - especially since I splurged for the lifetime service.

Any advice will be most appreciated. Thanks

Rhyme or reason to Roamio's MAC addresses

It has been covered in other posts that the Roamio Plus and Pro will show multiple MAC addresses on the network.

This is purely to satisfy my own curiosity: Is there any rhyme or reason to how the MAC addresses are assigned? For instance the two MAC addresses showing on my network might be "...A0:B1" and "...A0:B2." Does the main network connection get 1 and the Stream gets 2?

Has anyone opened up their Roamio Plus or Pro and seen what MAC address is where?

Getting proper lip sync with Roamio

Hey all, have a question about lip sync with my Roamio Pro.

I recently had to replace an AVR that failed and put in a Denon X4000. With the Denon I was noticing that sync was off on my various sources including my TiVo, my PS4 and my HTPC.

Using a calibration disc I was able to get sync working well with the PS4 and the HTPC and incidentally both were at about 80msec.

However, this setting with the TiVo is still not quite right... even accounting for differences in different channels, etc.

I can extract the sync test pattern as an MP4, is there a relatively painless way to get it on the Roamio to get this dialed in properly, or is there another (easier) way to set the sync, such as a channel (Comcast) that displays a lip sync test loop at certain times of day?

The Americans "Echo" OAD 5/21/14

No thread yet? Is everyone in shock still?

I couldn't believe it-Jared DID kill his family! His confession was riveting...I couldn't believe it as I was watching it. It was horrifying, but I could not turn away...he was trying so hard to impress Phillip and Elizabeth...a complete 180 from what we had seen from him the rest of the season...

And Granny-how I LOVE her....reminding Phillip and Elizabeth that Paige isn't "theirs" -even though they have deluded themselves into thinking that she is...wow....just wow..

And of course, Stan-he couldn't betray his country any more...that is where he draws the line? I don't even know what to say.

I hope Nina is not gone for good.

And poor Martha-let's hope she dumps Clark for not wanting kids and doesn't make him kill her with her "Ladysmith" gun...

WHEN IS SEASON 3????????????????????????????????????????

How was Survivor Cagayan? *NO SPOILERS*

*No spoilers please*

This is the first season in a long time that I didn't watch live. In fact, I haven't even started it yet. Miraculously, I managed to avoid all spoilers, so I could still fully enjoy the season after the fact. I'm just wondering if it's worth it, since I have so many other shows to catch up on. How did this season compare to others in terms of fun players to watch, big surprise moments, and overall entertainment value?

I realize they didn't have time to rewrite the last episode, so I'll tell you how it ends. There's this guy named Randall Flagg, ...................

RCN Roamio-worth an extra 10-15/month?

All,

I'm currently set up with an RCN Tivo Premiere whole home bundle (4 tuner premiere + Tivo Preview).

RCN just announced availability of their Roamio equivalent (T6) in my market. Unfortunately it's going to cost an extra 10-15/month (because of the way billing is set up it's a little opaque). I'm trying to decide if the Roamio package is worth it.

As I understand it the main benefits of the Roamio would be as follows

1. More storage-I have a 1TB external drive and we don't retain a ton of content so the greater storage isn't an issue for me.

2. 6 Tuners vs. 4 - I rarely have tuner conflict and enough of our shows run at multiple times that a little bit of conflict management gets me by.

3. Pause live TV on the mini vs. not on the Tivo Preview: This would be nice but isn't a huge priority for me.

4. Improved interface and speed. How do people feel about this? Is is it a dramatically different experience?

5. Any other benefits? Better video quality? Flattery and compliments? Will sing to my dog when we're out of the house?

PBS channel recording failed - not authorized

I've got a Plus with a Moto M-card running 6.25 firmware. Have had no issues with all 6 tuners in the month that I've had it until last night - a scheduled recording of Nature on one of our local PBS stations failed with 'not authorized' reason given. I saw the failure and tuned the channel just fine in live TV, and it subsequently recorded the repeat overnight without issue.

Is this another tuner issue with the Roamios, a possible card issue, or just a glitch? I've had no signal level problems that I know of.

Mini not releasing tuner

I have two mnis that I used about 24 hours ago. My Romeo shows that two tuners are in use by the minis. Why is it not timing out and automatically releasing the tuners?

Tivo Warranty versus Square Trade

I bought a Roamio Plus with lifetime and a 3 year warranty from Tivo and just realized that you only get one replacement with the Tivo warranty and have to pay $150 for a replacement unit. Square Trade currently have a 35% off coupon which knocks their 3 year warranty to just $35. What is the drawback of each? I'm also concerned about transferring the lifetime service to the replacement if it can't or won't be repaired. I could still cancel the warranty contract from Tivo as long as I'm within the first 30 days, right? Thanks in advance.

Edit: on Square Trade website under "device price range" is that just the unit itself without the lifetime service?

TiVo Mini and TiVo's support lines

I'm looking for any help online here as Tivo Phone, Email, and Chat support have been giving misinformation and the times I do get correct information and have to call back to continue after a step has been done, it goes back to square one.

Here is my issue. I purchased a Tivo Mini and got lifetime for it to use with one of my Premiere XL4. Upon receiving the Mini, activating, and trying repeatedly for 72 hours, I was continually getting the dreaded V70 not letting me pair it to my XL4. After dealing with support for a week, I finally received an email from the escalation department (On Saturday) saying that I need to separate my account as since I have an XL4 in another location with Comcast, it is making the Mini want to pair only with an XL4 that has xfinity on Demand. I was told to call in and separate accounts and then escalation would follow up within 3 business days. I did that and still no response and I still can't complete guided setup with my Mini. I contacted support over chat today as I work during the hours support phone lines are open. Chat again was useless saying they had no information and proceeded to disconnect the chat.

I bought the Mini from Amazon and got the lifetime obviously through TiVo, but my window for returning the mini and getting credit for the lifetime is dwindling and Tivo is giving me nothing but the runaround. I have been a Tivo Customer since 2003 and still run my Toshiba SD-H400 (Lifetime), 2 Series 2 40hrs (both on Monthlies still), 1 Tivo HD (Lifetime), 1 Tivo Premiere (Lifetime), and 2 Tivo Premiere XL4 (Lifetime). I am just looking to get this resolved and the one email I received last Saturday had all the steps saying how to resolve it (mostly backend things on TiVo's servers to manually remove provisioning on the Mini for xfinity on Demand).

I tried to message TiVoMargret directly for help but the forum doesn't let me PM anyone other than staff unless I have 10 posts in the forum despite the fact I have been reading this forum since I purchased my TiVo HD in 2008. If anyone can forward this to her or another Tivo employee on this forum for help, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Brad

Supernatural - Do You Believe in Miracles

wow, no threads on Supernatural in a while

I thought this was pretty good season finale

I knew the speaker was on

but the ending surprised me

Veep S03E07 "Special Relationship" 05/18/14

When Ben had to leave and he said "Daniwah" then bowed, I about lost it.

And Selena needing to be driven to the airport at "Diana speed" but more careful was a riot.

This show is just comedic gold from start to finish of every episode. Christopher Meloni was terrific guest starring.

So Sue and Kent are in a relationship of some kind, right? They haven't explicitly said it but the subtext is all there.

Dual Tuner Viewing

It is at all possible to use two tuners at the same time using a Mini? For example, my dad likes to watch two shows at the same time, and when one gets to a commercial, he will switch to the other tuner on his premiere to watch another channel, until its next commercial, then switch back. Is that possible, or is it better to just record shows and watch them in their entirety?

Survivor Cagayan Finale : OAD 5-21-2014

I turned it off when Kass won the immunity challenge. If she doesn't win the thing I'll go back and watch the rest.

Edit: I just peeked and I'm glad I did. Wow! Wu. Oh, that was fun.

V87 error. Tivo doesn't support switches. Huh?

Thats right. Opened up a ticket for the V87 and the reply back was they don't support connections to switches. Only connections to routers. Yep, guess Tivo isn't aware that the LAN ports on the router IS a switch. In case you don't believe me here it is:

"A connection to a switch is not supported. If you would like to use an Ethernet connection for your TiVo Minis and Roamio you must have an Ethernet connection directly to the router, rather than to a switch or hub. If this is not a possible configuration, we recommend considering options for setting up a MoCA network in your home."

Tivo needs to know there is problem in order to fix it. If I can't get past the first level of support then Tivo has deeper problems then I thought.

The next season of Survivor is rumored to be...

Another blood vs water season but this time all the players will be new. Don't know if they are going to put them on different tribes to start or not but I think it's much more interesting if they do.

Season 30 was rumored to be a season with all returnees but talk has changed and it may be another season with only new players. We shall see.

Can't get Tivo button to work with Harmony One

Sorry if a repost. Tried searching, can't find an answer.

New to Tivo. Loving it! Good-bye Dish!

I've set up my Harmony One with Roamio basic remote and everything works great, EXCEPT the Tivo button. In the Harmony software I have mapped the 'Tivo' button to the 'Menu' button on the Harmony One, but it doesn't work. The Tivo button does show up on the LCD screen and I can access it that way, but would prefer a simple button push.

I also tried mapping the 'Tivo' button to another button on the Harmony One, but still no joy. In initial setup, I selected the model TCD-846500 as my model, based on another thread. Is this the issue?

Thanks for your help!

Moca help please

I purchased a Tivo Roamio Plus and a tivo mini

I have Time Warner Cable. Only ethernet connection is in the downstairs room. Husband and I mostly watch tv upstairs. (FYI -- we rent)

My husband installed everythign we needed for moca -- or so it seemed. We can get a moca connection downstairs on the Roamio plus. But it only works briefly then the connection is lost. (sometimes it won't connect at all, other times it works for about 15 minutes). We have never been able to get the Tivo mini to work at all -- updtairs the moca never connects.

Tivo works fine connected to ethernet -- but we don't want to watch tv downstairs all the time!

We were using the roamio as the moca bridge. Also tried with a moca adaptor. All splitters replaced. POE filter installed.

Do I need a different modem/router? We rent the router from Time Warner and they know we have Tivo. Any other suggestions?

I know wifi isn't supported but some people make it work for the mini. Problem is the wifi is horrible. We had to get a wifi extender to use the laptop upstairs.

I've read posts that mention switches. Do you think that will help? I know nothing about them

We used to have 3 Tivo Series2 and loved them. We really miss tivo, but are so frustrated (phone calls to time warner cable and tivo don't help) that we are willing to sell it all on ebay at a loss :(

Reading Network Drives

I just upgraded my router to the Linksys WRT 1900ac. It has an eSata port on the back so I connected a WD MyBook and presto: I have a central network storage point accessable to all my computers and tablets.

Is there a way to play media on the server through a premiere?

Deadliest Catch - On the Rocks - 5/20/2014

I'm not a fan of Elliott but I have to give the guy credit, risking his own boat to save the crew of the sinking ship. I did laugh when he got served papers for owing $50,000 in back child support.

It wasn't covered in the episode but the reason the Arctic Hunter sank was because the captain fell asleep at the wheel. Literally. http://www.thedutchharborfisherman.c...rashes_crabber

I came across another fascinating story arguing that Deadliest Catch is destroying the rest of the crab fleet. http://ift.tt/1oSRErQ

It's all about economics. Boat owners have to buy quotas to reach the economy of scale needed to run such big boats. The average boat owner has to pay for fuel, food, bait, insurance, etc, before they even leave port. They have to take those costs into account when they go out to buy quotas. DC boats' basic costs are paid for by the Discovery Channel. That means they have much more money available to buy quotas and still make a profit. The end result is that the DC boats are dominating the fleet and driving other owners out of the business. It also allows idiots like Elliott to survive. Without Discovery Channel covering his costs, he would be bankrupt in months.

The story says that King crab crew payouts on one boat are down to $2,000 per man, thanks to the owners paying so much for quotas. It says that some crew are barely making minimum wage.

New Tivo Premier setup

I've been holding on to a new Premier I purchased at Wamart a couple of months ago, and now I'm ready to replace my old Tivo HD. What can I expect as far as installation? It's been a few years since I activated my TivoHD, and I remember alot of people had problems with pairing cablecards. I'm assuming the cable techs have worked out all the kinks by now, and know what they're doing? Back then it was kind of "hit and miss" as far as getting the tech that actually knew what he was doing(I got lucky-mine did).

Also, my Premier came without a cablecard so I assume I need to call Tivo right? Or do the cable companies have these by now? Any input is appreciated.

Some of my older recording have disappeared

Ok. I have a Tivo premiere DVR. I recently noticed that some of my older recordings have apparently been deleted. However I did not delete them and my Tivo has never been above 90% full. I checked my recently deleted folder, but they were not in there even though numerous other programs were. I am not sure what happened to them. Any ideas, suggestions?

Thanks,

Revolution "Memorial Day" OAD 5/14/14

I was surprised to see the preview of the series finale at the end. I had no idea that it was canceled (no go for season 3) until that prompted me to look it up. :o

Oh well. I wonder how well they will be able to tie things up in that finale. Seems like it'll be very abrupt.

I have been bothered for awhile that it seems they'd moved away from the muskets awhile ago. Is it because the Patriots have tons of ammo and are willing to use/waste it (seems like it, but the supply couldn't be infinite) or because someone can manufacture bullets for those guns again or the writers just gave up/stopped using primitive guns?

No "New" icon displayed on the guide

I almost never see the "new" icon on the guide, however, on the recording list, it appears on almost all of them. Bug?

Help I need a cap valve

For C578 on the main PCB. I had one shipped to me and the drive cage was not screwed down and it knocked off the cap at C578. The model number is a TCD648250B If anyone could help me please. The cap is right behind the turner board the one toward the back going across the unit in the front. It is almost center of the board. All I have is one leg sticking up. Thanks for any help.

Switching back to LIVE TV and vice versa in menu

In the menu, when the current channel is on the small preview window on the right corner, switching back to live tv and vice versa is not as seamless as it should be. However, when going back and forth on the guide, it is seamless which makes me wonder if this is a bug. Does the older models exhibit this behavior?

I need to find what C578

Is. I just had a lifetime series 3 shipped to me with bad caps in power supply. Well 30mins later that was fixed but the guy did not put the drive cage in the unit with screws and it knocked off C578 on the main PCB and I don't know the value of the cap. HELP is there anyone that can tell me what mfd or pf and voltage it is? Thanks for any help. Oh C578 is in the front close to the two tuner boards about center of the board but more toward the front.

Tivo becomes "inactivated"

I have a Tivo HD series 3. When I got home Sunday evening I turned on the television and displayed on the screen was a message that my Tivo was not activated and that I needed to call Tivo or go online to activate it. I called and was instructed to force a connection and everything would be just fine. Performed this and once it was complete everything was just fine.

Tonight same issue, came home, turned on the TV and had the same message about the Tivo not being activated. I forced a connection expecting that would fix everything again but this time it didn't. It went through the whole downloading process and when it was complete I still had the message about activating the Tivo. Checked my account status and it showed 3-Account in good standing. Status on Tivo web site also shows everything is OK.

I then restarted the Tivo to see if that would help. The activation message disappeared and my channel listings came back but the To Do list is totally screwed up. Programs that aren't going to be recorded because they are repeats now show, "This program will not be recorded because it was scheduled with a Tivo Plus service feature. To upgrade to Tivo plus service go to Tivo central and choose "How to upgrade to Tivo Plus service ". There are also all sorts of programs in the To Do list which I have never requested be recorded and which are not in the season pass list.

I've been a Tivo customer almost since day one and this is the first real problem I've ever had.

Anyone have a clue whats going on?

Why roll out a major change in the middle of the day?

Charter went to all digital this afternoon. Of course it screwed up the tuning adapter. I'm in the middle of a couple of recordings so I don't want to reboot. Meanwhile I have the "this channel can't be tuned" message plastered over the show that is tuned just fine.

On my other TiVo there are channel glitches such as the guide and channel not agreeing with what is actually playing.

Just needed to vent.

Missed episodes with season pass

We missed 4 episodes of a show for which we have a season pass. Recording history doesn't explain why they weren't recorded, in fact it doesn't show them at all. No other season pass is at the same time. No other season pass is higher in the list. No manual recording was set for the same time. The maximum number of shows to keep (10) was not exceeded. TiVo settings are such that if a show overlaps, it clips the other recording instead of not recording it. The only explanation that I can come up with is that the show moved to a different time or a different day of the week, but on the same channel. This has happened to other shows which recorded fine. Any ideas?

Enlisted final four on Fox
