Survivor Cagayan : "Chaos Is My Friend" : OAD 4-30-2014

It might be debatable if Tony is smart or dumb, but Tasha is great. Three IMs in a row and cozying up to the other 3 girls lit a perfect storm under Tony's ass. Spencer did a pretty good job in the supporting role.

Personally, I think Tony made a mistake here. He's guaranteed the final 4 at this point, it's just a matter of who he sits there with. Jeffra would have been better than Spencer for him.

So, aside from not bidding against Tony and Spencer at the auction, I think Tasha has played as close to a perfect game as she could the last few weeks. I hope she finds a way to win it all.

1080P24 scaling from Netflix

Is 1080P24 scaling from Netflix new?

My three Minis and Roamio Pro are all scaling to 1080P24 now. As soon as a Netflix video starts streaming, the output switches to 1080P24 and stays there. Even if it's playing an SD bitstream or 720P bitstream, the output is staying at 1080P24. As soon as the video stops playing and you go back to the netflix menu, it goes back to 1080P60 output on my Roamio Pro and goers back to 1080i output on my Mini.

The last time I messed around with this, it would only output 1080P24 after it ramped up to the 1080P bitstream. but now both the Roamio and Mini are scaling to 1080P24 when playing back the Netflix steam.

I haven't tried it with any of the other apps yet.

Premier Box Freezing

Since about a month ago our Premier has frozen completely three times—would not respond at all until we cut the power and hard reset. Once was using youtube app, once using Netflix, and once at the end of watching an OTA program recorded on DVR. So it seems to be a firmware/hardware issue, not a any specific app or feature.

We have had this box for over 4 years, and don't want to upgrade until Tivo offers something better than the entry Roamio for OTA use. But we have only had the box freeze once or twice in four years, and now three times in less than a month. Any suggestions as to how we might reset the premiere and reinstall any recent updates to see if that corrects these freezing issues?

When did Netflix output change on the Mini?

I notice that now it must be scaling to 1080P24.

With 1080P24 checked in the resolutions, even when Netflix is streaming at a low 384kbps SD bitrate, the output is 1080P24.

I just noticed this tonight since it wasn't going through the different output resolutions as it ramped up to the 1080P streams.

I'm seeing this from all three of my Minis. Was this from the new update or was it like this with the previous update?

Series 3 HD Reboots Randomly

I posted previously about this unit, but didn't get any replies, so I'm trying again in a new thread. My lifetime Tivo HD was randomly rebooting, and I confirmed I had the capacitor plague problem. I ordered capacitors to replace all of them, according to a previously posted list. 4 or 5 of the original capacitors were definitely bulging and/or leaking, so I know this needed to be done. After replacement, I measured the voltages under load, and the results were: red: 4.90V, yellow, 12.00V, orange 3.31V. I'm somewhat suspicious of the red, even though it is within the +/-5%, nevertheless I wonder about it.

Also, I took the opportunity to upgrade my current 1.5T drive to a 2.0T model. I did perform a full media test on the new drive before I ran WinMFS on it, which it passed with no errors. Everything seems to work correctly with the exception of it randomly rebooting every 1-2 days. It usually doesn't go much more than 2 days without a reboot. I have been monitoring the internal temperature, and it seems pretty consistent of a low of 44C and a high of 47C, which is in the normal range.

Yesterday, it rebooted while I was watching a recording. No other shows were being recorded at the time, and I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary when it rebooted. I double-checked the internal temperature immediately after the reboot, and again it was within the 44-47C range.

There have been times that we have been away from home for a couple of days, and upon returning, the unit was frozen with static on the screen, and did not respond to the remote at all.

I'm at my wits end as to how to troubleshoot this, and what to try next. I have taken the power supply board back out and gone over the soldering with a fine eye, but I don't spot anything obvious.

I'm open to any and all ideas, and would appreciate any suggestions.

(My wife is a TV show junkie, and we have tons of recordings, so I would be in the doghouse if we had to start over with a clean install, and lose all the shows.)

New Amazon HD App on its Way?!

Looks like Zatz has the scoop on a new Amazon Instant App that is HD-only and probably supports Prime...:)

possible cause of roamio reboots?

i have an asus router. the router was losing wireless connections somewhat frequently and also occassionally losing hardwired connections. after some investigation i noticed that my router was rebooting several times throughout the day and router uptime was measured in hours or minutes at a time. turns out that the firmware version had a known bug and many people had the router rebooting issue. after upgrading the firmware the router rebooting has stopped.

after upgrading the firmware, i've noticed that my roamio rebooting has stopped as well. so is it possible that the roamio reboots occur when internet connectivity (or LAN connectivity) is unstable?

TiVo Desktop Plus cannot see TiVos

Hi,

System info. New Mac Pro, Running Win 7 64 bit (on Mac via Parallels) ... new installation of TiVo Desktop. I have a Series 3 HD and a Premiere.

I've double checked the MAK I entered.

The firewall on the PC is clearly opened for all the TiVo programs.

I've tried both Bonjour and TiVo Beacon.

I have successfully loaded the welcome page of both TiVos using their respective IP addresses from the browser running on the same Win 7 environment.

I've shutdown/started the Win 7 environment multiple times.

But when I try to "Pick Recordings to Transfer" from the tivo desktop software ... it fails to find any DVRs on my home network.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Steve

Fargo 4/29/14

Great episode.

How long is this running?

I loved Malvo approaching the blackmailer "could you have picked a smaller closet for us to talk in" (as they were nose to nose in a small dark closet). Malvo's sarcasm and BBT delivery gets me chuckling.

I wonder if more people are upset about the dog getting killed then the people?

And the interplay between the policewoman and a) Lester and then later b)the police guy with his daughter was just spot on.

Anyone else get this notice about Amazon moving to HD menus?

Anyone else get this message:

A change is being made to your Premiere Series DVR that we want to make you aware of. Soon the Amazon Instant Video application will be removed from standard definition (SD) menus on your DVR and going forward will it will only be available in high definition (HD) menus.

This bothers me, because I purposely don't use the HD menus because they are entirely too slow, plus I had the ad images. (Paper towels, anyone!??!)

I can't imagine why they would NEED to make this change for any technical reason. Seems to me this is paving the way to force everyone onto the HD menus.

Anyone have any insight on this?

Cant' even setup my new Roamio Plus

There is a s/w issue that they have been unable to correct where new units cannot complete setup. I a MOCA complaint FIOS router so that is not he issue. This seems to be a systemic problem that they have yet to fix - I have a case # 140428010405 and this is been going on since Saturday when I received the unit. There are sending me another unit but say they cannot guarantee that it won't have the same issue as the s/w update works on some units and not on others - to say the least I am livid and it seem they should pull back the update until it is wrung out. I have $1000+ of brick in a box which are essentially a useless and a wife who is not happy.

Wishlist Creation

Been using the Roamio +Mini's for a number of months now. For whatever reason, creating a Wishlist seems like a daunting task.

The goal in creating one now is to catch the first 3 episodes of GOT, Season 4.

Is it possible to create a wishlist for just a particular season of a show?

If so, could someone provide an example of how to do so?

Thank you

season pass copy to phantom Tivo

I think it'd be nice to be able to copy all of your season passes over to a 'phantom' tivo box that is automatically set up in your account when you initially add your Tivo TSN. This would allow a user, who doesn't have the technical means to install Tivo Desktop or other software on their desktop, to temporarily move/backup all of their season passes in the event that their Tivo needed to be replaced.

It would not address any recorded shows, but if you have a ton of season passes, it'd be a nice way to safeguard them and/or restore them back when a replacement Tivo is sent back to you.

Does WinMFS work with Windows7?

I have a TiVo HD (TCD652160) that needed a new drive. I had a spare SATA drive and a TiVo image to put on it with WinMFS. I hooked up the replacement drive to a desktop running Windows 7. I verified it was recognized in the device manager, but after running WinMFS, it didn't seem to see the new drive. Even after I checked "show mounted drive".

I put the drive in a desktop I have that still has Windows XP. This time, WinMFS did see the drive. I then restored the image on the drive as needed. Put it in the TiVo HD and it works great.

Seeing as XP has been officially retired and I am not sure how much longer I will have a desktop running XP, is there any way of getting WinMFS to run on a Windows 7 machine for restoring a Series 3 image? Do I maybe have to do an additional step with W7? Or does restoring a S3 image have to be done a totally different way with Windows 7?

NCIS this season

Seems to me that NCIS has become episodes all about righting a societal wrong and totally forgotten cases about just getting the bad guys.

Years of Living Dangerously

I saw this listed in the schedule a while back but knew very little about it. I started watching it when it aired a few weeks ago and it's been a bit of an eye opener. I believed in global warming before I started watching this, but I think it should be mandatory viewing for every right-wing conservative Republican out there that still has their head up their ass on the subject.

What's ironic is that some of the most fervent proponents of global warming are from the same groups that don't believe it's an issue. If you're on the fence about it or just want to know what it's all about, I highly recommend the series. It's a 7-parter airing on Showtime Sunday nights.

Playing Tivo computer files

I would like to play these back on my tv, using a remote control, not a keyboard. How can I do that? Windows Media Center won't play my Tivo files.

No Sound on TiVo iPad App

I cannot get sounds to play on the TiVo app on my iPad Mini. It works fine on my iPad Air, iPhone, wife's iPad, and her iPhone.

When I watch shows, I can hear the audio. I can't hear the beep noise when I change channels, click a button, etc. I've turned sounds off then back on, reset the app, and just tonight deleted and reinstalled the app. No luck.

Any suggestions? (Yes, the volume of the iPad is turned on.)

Unusual delay when posting?

I'm seeing an unusual delay when I post using the full GUI editor. After I hit the submit button, the browser sits and shows "Waiting for http://www.tivocommunity.com...." in the status bar for a considerable amount of time (almost exactly 1 minute in my test just now) before finally finally taking you to your post. If I immediately open a new browser window or tab at pretty much any time during this minute, I'll see that the post has already been posted.

I've checked this in both Internet Explorer and Chrome on my machine - both have the same problem, and nearly the same 1 minute delay after posting before you get taken to your post.

This problem does not seem to affect the Quick Reply box. It DOES seem to affect the Report Post, however.

Adding a Mini to a Tivo Roamio Plus

Sorry if this has been answered a hundred times. :o

I have a Roamio Plus in the living room connected via wifi (no Moca). Can I add a mini in my bedroom and just use wifi instead of adding Moca to the Plus? Connection speed is very good on the Roamio so I'm assuming it will be fine with the mini. Also, does Tivo still offer lifetime on Mini for $150? I have lifetime on my Roamio if that matters.

Thanks in advance

ETA: Will I still need a TA for the mini?

My Favorite TV Programme

Watching TV is a great source of entertainment. I see different programmes of different channels. The most popular TV programmes are dramas, songs, dances, films, games and sports etc. There are also some instructive programmes on the television. These generally cover different branches of knowledge. Among all the programmes, my favorite TV programme is the documentary on animal life. The name of the programme is animal planet. It is telecast on every Saturday at 9 p.m. on BTV. Amimals are the main performers in this programme. I have thirst for knowing about animal life from my boyhood. I can learn many things about animal life from this programme. That is why, I like this programme most.

Roamio Pro Problems

Long time Tivo owner, bought Pro in Sept., had random reboots about monthly and flakey HDMI connection. Finally in March my HDMI port went out. Was sent new Pro as replacement, HDMI connection is good but I continue to get random reboots, since getting "new" Pro in March and I've been getting reboots at least weekly which is even more that my first. Got update last week and got random reboot within 2 days, past 2 days I've gotten 3 reboots, 2 this evening within 1 hour of each other, a real pain during prime-time . Anyone else getting reboots? Any suggestions? I still use my Tivo HD (upgraded with Seagate video HD) it has run for years 24/7. I can't remember my HD ever rebooting and has never had a problem. Love the Roamio's features but kinda losing faith in the Roamio already, luckily I bought extended warranty as I have lifetime.

BTW, did anyone notice the credits? It listed a special thanks to Dwayne Mcduffie. I remember he had alot to do with the animated Justice League and posted here once. I wonder if it was the same guy?

Toshiba RS-TX20 wireless problem

I have an old Toshiba RS-TX20 that's got a lifetime sub. I rarely use it, but since it's there, I want to be able to use it. I have a Netgear WG111 that has worked for years. That replaced a DLink DWL-G122 to get G over B.

Anyway, the light on the Netgear wireless has been flashing for a while now and I only intermittently get guide data. I thought the problem was with the network since I was only seeing 1 of 2 routers and only getting 1%-44% signal strength. I played with some things (both adapters, new cable, different port, playing with router settings, etc) and now I'm not seeing any network at all. I added a router plugged in right next to the unit to see if that would improve things, but I still can't see it with the Tivo (the phone has no issue connecting to any of them from the same location as the Tivo, so it's not the wireless routers). I tried the adapters in an XP machine and both work fine.

So, I figure the only thing left that this could be is the Tivo itself be it hardware (bad USB port?) or software (settings?). Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe there's a way to dissable/reenable networking? I could buy a wired or wireless adapter off ebay for cheap, but if the issue is with the Tivo, I'd rather fix that first rather than having more junk drawer clutter.

Bones 04/28/2014

Apparently there was a schedule change and the episode was a rerun rather than new. I know of one instance where the guide data did not get updated in time - a friend of mine is OTA and her FRO SP recorded it, therefore it will not be picked up when it actually shows, currently scheduled for 05/12.

Considering mini for roamio basic.

Just set up basic roamio and so far so good. I'm considering grabbing a mini. I tried to read through the Moca thread but it just seems complicated. I have Ethernet on the other side of the room so I will probably just run a cat5e along the floor around to the mini until I can run a permanent line in the attic. If I go this route I won't need Moca, right? :o

So, the mini will have power, hdmi, and a cat5 connected to the back. Will it need the regular coax connected? I've looked at some guides but couldn't see it although I am y be missing the obvious.

IS there a delay in changing channels on live tv?

How about on demand? Can I get on demand to work on the mini?

Roamio HD channels questions.

Just got the roamio hooked up but haven't had time to tinker. One thing the kids mention is when you go to the guide you have to scroll all the way through the low channels to get to the HD channels. With the comcast DVR you could just go to the menu and press the HD button.

Is this possible on the roamio? I do have a harmony on remote if somehow that would help.

The Following - "Forgive" 4/28 **SPOILERS**

Come on now, someone else has to be watching other than me!!!

Well, I guess it was kind of predictable that almost everything is handled ALONE by our heroes. They have a whole army of officers and yeah they are used sometimes but all the interesting things are done all by the super-cops.

One (of the many) thinks that bugs me is that people seem to get shot and then a few minutes later are able to fight as if nothing happened. In the scene at "dinner" one of the twins is really going to shoot Claire when Mike or Max arrive at the nick of time to shoot the twin before he can shoot Clair. Now when the twin is shot I specifically remember seeing some blood spraying out of his body in the chest area. So yes I can acknowledge that it may not be fatal, but a few minutes later he's up and around fighting with someone (Ryan, I think) as if nothing happened.

As the remainder of the episode continued after the dinner, I'm often yelling at the screen "Lets go and finish this already!!!" Thank goodness the bloody twin in Ryan's bed was only a dream as it would have been TOO clichéd. But of course some mystery person did come along to save the twins, both the alive one and the dead one.

Stupid show but still kind of entertaining (even if just to rip it apart!).

List of Thumb Reviews

Is there any way to download or print of list of of the thumb reviews on a TiVo? Or any way to transfer them? It takes so long to go through the list.

Report Post broken?

I keep getting connection time outs.

Parental lockout losing pause point?

I've recently moved from a HDXL to a Roamio Pro.

On the HDXL I was using KidZone, but that's gone on the Roamios (and I guess the Premieres, too).

One annoying thing I've been seeing is that if I'm watching a program, and pause it (and leave it paused) and then go away long enough for the parental lockout to kick back in, the pause point is lost -- I end up having to start from the beginning.

Is there any way to not lose the pause point? If I hit pause, then TiVo to go to the main menu and then walk away will I be able to pick up from where I left off, perhaps?

Switching from DirecTV to Roamio + Minis on Brighthouse

I've been using multiple DirecTV DVRs for years and have been pretty happy with the service other than the cost. We're getting ready to move to a Brighthouse area and I'm strongly considering switching to Brighthouse and purchasing a Roamio plus a couple Minis. For those with such a setup, would any of you say it has been fairly trouble free? I would plan on using most of the features such as streaming my own DVDrips and home movies, netflix, etc. Wondering if anyone is using wireless AC or powerline networking successfully?

Thanks,

Chris

Xfinity + Roamio = Constant Network Problems

The roamio is constantly dropping off the wireless network, I have n02, c133, V02, n09, c d e f g h i j k etc etc etc errors every single day. Rebooting the xfinity router does nothing. Restarting the tivo does nothing. It will hop back on intermittently only to be totally unusable the next. You can rarely go into "what to watch now" or on demand. There is a near constant "cannot connect to network" or "There is a problem with the Tivo" error on top of the screen. If I go in and manually try to connect, I get error after error. Oftentimes every channel is blacked out. It is so frustrating I am about to just give it away!!! The most telling thing is that it won't connect to xfinity in my own house with a good signal, but if I have it connect to my neighbor's guest network which has a poor 25% signal IN ANOTHER HOUSE it connects with no problems whatsoever and begins downloading!!! This obviously is not a solution for so many reasons. I know for a fact that signal strength is not the problem. Also my internet works flawlessly on ALL other devices - computers, androids, tablets all connect immediately with no problems whatsoever. I am at my wits end. Someone PLEASE HELP ME!!!

IR support for the Android TiVo App

While it appears there may be little application updates for the Android app, it would be totally awesome if the Android TiVo app would support the IR interface that many of the Samsung Android tablets have.

That would create a one hell of a custom remote control were you could operate everything from the touch screen, the biggest problem with the network remote control currently used is not having any control for the tv power & volume. Samsung includes a remote control application that can control the TiVo though IR which doesn't include the alphanumeric keypad of course.

It would be very useful to have an all in one app remote control that would combine multiple device IR commands along with the network Tivo remote that allows the alphanumeric keypad. But now after thinking about it I doubt such would happen as it would hurt TiVo's slide pro remote sales.

Another drawback might be tablet support, other than Samsung, what other manufacturers have a IR transmitter in their tablets/devices? Of course palm pilot did this back in the day but there aren't even in business any more are they?

Weaknees Roamio 4 tb extern upgrade

Ok, yes, I know all the comments on using the external drive, extra point of failures, why you need this much space, etc.

I am interested to hear from anyone did the 3TB internal upgrade along with the Weaknees 4TB external drive to give a 7TB total storage. Any problems encountered? How much have you used and notice and slowness issues...

Thanks!

Transfer Fios Cable Card from Roamio to TiVoHD

I would like to yank the cable card from my Roamio Pro and stick it in an older TiVoHD that is currently hooked up to ethernet only (sans card). We transfer shows to the back room for viewing but would like to ditch the Fios STB and try a cable card (again). The current card in the Roamio is the specific M card that works properly so we can decrypt Cinemax, HBO, MGM and Sony Networks. The card is paired to the Roamio (and what a boondoggle that was back in August).

Is it possible to just pull and plug just to see if it works? Is it that simple?

Would I have to pair it to the TiVo HD?

Would I then have to pair it again to the Roamio once I have finished the experiment?

Any thoughts on how to do this? I'd like to see if the old TiVoHD still has what it takes before I order another card for it.

Netflix and Verizon "make a deal"

According to Engadget Netflix and Verizon have reached an agreement similar to the one Netflix and Comcast established. SuperHD streaming is just a flipped switch away. Renewing my 2 year Fios contract will cost me $15 a month more and Netflix will ultimately tag on 2-5 bucks so it's a win win for Corporate America.

2 TiVo Mini issues

Hello all, I'm currently have 2 issues with my new Tivo Mini. The first problem is that the box is making a high pitched buzz or squeal. The mini is used in my bedroom, and it is audible when trying to go asleep. The sound frequency alternates between a high pitch and then a slightly lower pitch. I've tried to reboot the box but alas nothing helps. Not sure if I need to call Tivo and get a replacement. Just figured I'd ask here first.

2nd issue: I have my mini hooked up with coax via MoCa. Sometimes when I turn my tv on and press the TiVo button to wake the box up, it does not have a connection to the internet. I have to manually start a network connection and then I can back out of the the connection and "my shows" will appear. Any suggestions? I'd rather not run Ethernet if I can avoid it, the wiring is already ran and I patched the wall with the wires already inside. Thanks guys.

Craig Ferguson leaving Late Late Show

Bummer. It's the only late night show I watch currently.

Once Upon a Time "A Curious Thing" OAD 4/27/14

This was a pretty good episode -- lots of mysteries cleared up, from who cast the dark curse and why, to why everyone forgot about the missing year, to who gave Hook the memory potion for Emma.

Here's the main takeaway that I wrote on my blog about this episode:

I loved the symmetry of this episode with the season 1 arc. Back then, 10-year-old Henry spent the entire season trying to convince Emma that magic was real and that the inhabitants of Storybrooke were really fairy tale characters, and it wasn't until deep into the season that she believed him. There were many cute scenes of Emma placating Henry when he beseeched her about how he wasn't crazy ("Okay, kid"). It was thus Emma's kiss to a comatose Henry (who had bitten a poisoned apple pie baked by Regina) that broke the curse and restored everyone's memory, because it symbolized her complete re-unitance with her long lost birth son.

The tables were turned last night, with Emma having to persuade Henry that magic was real, etc., and her having to beseech him ("Kid, do you trust me?"). And it made sense that it was Regina, not Emma, whose kiss to Henry mattered now, because until their return to Storybrooke, Henry had been living with Emma, not Regina. For this half season, Storybrooke Regina has been heartbroken that Henry doesn't remember the 10 years that she raised him, and thus, her kiss to Henry (once he regained his full memories) symbolizes their re-unitance.

It's looking like this season is going to end on a rocking note!

Could they afford those digs?

Quote:

While watching your favorite sitcom, you may have wondered if the characters on the show could actually afford to live in their houses or apartments in reality. ...How about Al Bundy—is his and Peg’s Illinois home over budget for his paltry shoe salesman income?

We chose 15 of America’s favorite TV shows and examined their dwellings as well as their estimated incomes (based on occupations). We researched the real-life cities and neighborhoods that the sitcoms were set in and found comparable real estate and rental listings

http://ift.tt/1fmUS49

I had no idea that Al Bundy was supposed to be living in Deerfield. No way. No how, unless he had a huge inheritance.

I think that they underestimated Jerry's income.

How about Rob Petrie's house in New Rochelle? Being that Carl Reiner actually had such, it must have been doable.

Is anyone seeing any deals on TiVo Stream out there?

Dental Insurance exclusions

My Daughter had a cavity filled in March. She had a different cavity on the same tooth filled last July. Today I got a letter from my dental insurance stating that the filling in March wasn't covered because fillings on the same tooth are only covered once every 24 months.

Is that pretty standard, or do I have crappy dental insurance?

SlidePro Remote dongle

Hi,

I see references to a dongle in conjunction with the SlidePro Remote. Can someone describe what the dongle does? I am hopeful that it will allow replaying RF commands to IR since my A/V receiver is behind an opaque cabinet door.

Thanks.

Roamio Basic Lifetime w/ 2 TB HD

Anyone know what a reasonable price to sell a Roamio Basic w/ lifetime and 2 TB HD would be?

I used it for OTA only but recently moved to an apt that gets absolutely zero reception, and I don't want to get Comcast.

Thanks!

"Backtrack" changed in Roamios?

I've had my Roamio Basic for a few months now, but from the first day I immediately noticed a change in the amount of "backtrack" when resuming play from a fast-forward or rewind at the 3x speed. It's still 3x for the first of the three available fast speeds, no? In any event, the first fast speed on my old Series2 would backtrack a little bit when resuming play, just as the two faster speeds. But on my new Roamio, the first fast speed doesn't seem to backtrack at all, or very little. In fact, sometimes it seems like it's actually jumping forward a bit, but I could be wrong.... I remember reading how the developers of the first generation TiVo did excruciating testing to empirically determine the best overall backtrack amount to try compensating for overshoot when resuming play, and it was different for each of the three fast speeds, both forward & backward. I think the Roamio might have changed the two other faster speeds' backtracks, too, but I've quickly gotten used to them — no problem. But the absence or at least very little first speed backtrack is thwarting my timing of resuming play coming out of commercials umpteen times every day, and I'm not able to get used to it and compensate. Anyone else notice a change in the first fast speed's backtrack?

Another crash after the update

Watching a recording on the Roamio last night. It glitched, and I was almost CERTAIN that it was going to reboot. It didn't. But the wife called up to me from downstairs to tell me that the Mini she was watching a recording on rebooted (at exactly the same moment).

Just adding to whatever data is out there. This release has been terrible.

Is this the original remote?

I was possibly interested in a TiVo for sale from someone locally on Craigslist. They claim "It is in great condition, I have the manual and original remote". From the pic, I am thinking this is not the original remote though, correct (pic below)? It looks like a Premiere remote, but maybe I am mistaken. Is that even a glo remote (sort of what i am interested more in)

Mad Men 4/27/14 "Field Trip"

I am not thrilled with the fact that the partners offered Don a deal to come back that clearly has the intent of making him fail and allowing them to absorb his shares without compensation. He should have told them to go screw and made them buy him out.

can I use a Seagate in a Series 3?

I have a Series 3 (TCD652160) with lifetime and is running good. I recently got a Seagate 250GB SATA drive (from a friend's PC). After I run a full disk scan on it to make sure its OK, was going to throw it in this Series 3 TiVO HD (after i install an image on it with WinMFS). I know Western Digitals are the preferred brand, but can a Seagate one work just as well?

Veep "Clovis" (4/27/14) [SPOILERS]

Is anyone else still watching this? This was one of the funnier eps of the season.

Selina's visit to a Google/Facebook-type complex was hilarious. "Meat" Meyer.com, indeed.

A little wry commentary on Apple and other high tech companies with the "Smartch."

About to upgrade Roamio Plus

Ordered a WD AV-GP WD30EURX 3TB from Newegg, should be here in a couple of days. As I understand it, the upgrade should be pretty straightforward.

I have a backup of all season passes using kmttg. I'm also copying off any recordings that I'll want to have available after the upgrade, that's going through kmttg also, I can run them through tivodecode and send it back to the Roamio later with pytivo.

Open up the Roamio, swap out the drive, run it through guided setup again and it should be ready to go.

Am I missing any necessary steps? There's a couple things I'm unsure of at this point.

  • The cable card, will I have to pair it again? CableOne was pretty good about that the last time at least.

  • Software level: what version will be put on the new drive after the swap? Will I be at the current or have to update again?

Anyone watching 'drive it' German TV series?

It is broadcast on one of our PBS local Denver stations. Some of the vehicles are not available here in the USA, but I enjoy it anyway. I miss it not having a 'Goss' Garage' like segment though like on on PBS USA Motorweek. It is in German, but dubbed over in English. The historical segments are my favorite.

And I like seeing the German countryside, as it reminds me of good times while in the Army.

They had a segment on new French cars last month.

It has always surprised me that no French vehicles are imported into the USA. Course they were at one time, but maybe because the French just make junky cars. What can you expect from a country that employees can't be fired. When I was over in France I thought the waiters were mean to me because I am American, but talking to a French girl she said they are mean to everyone as they can't be fired.

The had a great segment on a Ford Speedster that a German patched together from parts from South America.

The Amazing Race - Switzerland 4/27/14

Well, for those who think it's unimportant to get along with the other racers, this one's for you!

Brenchel's attitude just plain sucks, IMO. I agree that it's a race and when it's important, they race. When it's not, they enjoy their time traveling around the world and help each other!

Bravo to Dave and Connor for finding the quickest way to get to Phil. As they said, they wouldn't stand a chance in a foot race, but they found a way to win - and what a prize!

The girls have another lucky escape. I'm not sure I expected this to be a non-elim this week. I'm sure the others will help them if they can to get ahead of Brenchel. I really thought they were going this week, but I knew that the blondes would have a problem with those milk churns.

"We've encountered an error" Message on Tivo.COM

Does anyone know how to fix this? When I try to schedule a show from Tivo.Com I get a message that says "They have encountered an error and I should try again later". This happens on several of my Tivos, and I have never had this before. I know if I call TIVO they will tell me that there is nothing wrong on their end (there never is), but I wanted to ask here before rebooting my Tivo's...not sure that would help.

My DVR season pass feature did not pick it up automatically so I had to set it to record manually.

Tivo to Adobe Premire Pro

I am trying to load a file created on the Tivo Desktop pro into Adobe Premiere Pro. When I do so, it says file not supported - leaving me to believe I need to purchase a file converter so that I can get the clip into Premiere Pro CS6.

1.) Is it correct that tivo files or tivo files for portable device do not load to Adobe?

2.) What is the preferred file converter program for the best quality?

3.) If I record a show in HD, will the output from the TIVO desktop file also be in HD quality?

Looking for HDMI switch controlled by Tivo Remote

Can any HDMI switches be controlled by Tivo (Roamio) Remote?

If yes, pls recommend one.

Reason is my TV's HDMI input/ports with my Tivo since my Sceptre TV uses arrow keys to select the new input which I heard cannot be controlled by Tivo remote

So, I'm thinking if there are HDMI switches that can be controlled by Tivo remote, then I use all my devices via that switch

Thanks!

Major problems with sound sync using kmttg

Hi all, I hope this is the right forum to post this in, but it's driving me nuts.

The strange part is that the problem is completely intermittent. Some shows come through fine, others (like Mad Men's current season, and Mr Selfridge) hardly at all. No problem with the video. And yes, I have QS fix checked.

Boxes checked: decrypt, QS fix and encode, and the encoder is Handbrake television: mkv container, same res h.264 video, aac audio

I'm using a Windows 7 Ultimate machine with an i5 2500k processor and 8 GB RAM, so I don't think I lack for horsepower (especially if I'm not doing anything else on the machine at the time).

Any ideas? Thanks,

Orphan Black 4/26/14 "Governed by Sound Reason and True Religion"

Dang, Mrs. S has some nasty in her.

Looks like there is an original, and it isn't Rachel.

Poor Alison, having to suffer her guilt-driven breakdown alone. That should be interesting. Clever of her and Felix to flush out Donnie, though.

The clones all seem to be being driven apart. That can't last, can it? It's too wonderful when they're together.

And why, why, why is Sarah so special? Did Mrs S and her crew know when they sent her on the run? Or was she just the one that Mrs S had at hand? I suspect she knew...

Last week was only pretty good. This week, OB is back at the top of the heap (along with Game of Thrones, which is magnificent in very different ways).

Lifetime service cost after 1 year of month to month?

Bought a Tivo Premiere XL4 12 months ago for $399 on a month to month plan @14.99/mo ($180 so far). Plus Two Tivo Minis w/ Lifetime @ $250 each. And probably spent another $200 wiring the condo for Cat 5. So I'm pretty heavily invested at this point.

My one year commitment is now up. The website is only offering Lifetime at $499 or $399 with a promo code, which isn't any different then what I was offered initially before spending $180 in monthly service charges.

I've heard the $199 number thrown around for Liftetime after 12 months. What does one have to do to get that? Just call support and ask? Do I have to threaten to cancel or any other games?

I'd love to get a Roamio at some point as my XL4 is really sluggish, but after spending close to $1300 so far, not ready to spend another $400 plus service. I'll wait till prices come down or they start offering deals to existing customers.

Directv TivoHD - menu topic: music, photo and showcase...

When I select this item I get only showcases - this machine is networked (yes I know it can't do some things a genie can, I have a genie on the same network), since it specifically names music I was hoping that it too could see my NAS music server as do my genie and her minnies.

Should I have an Extras menu item on the tivo?

Problems with Conflicts

Hello,

I have two Tivo Premiere Dual Tuner DVR's. I am encountering a new problem over the last couple of days. On one of them back to back programs on the same channel conflict with each other. For example

Program 1 CBS 8pm w/ starting 5 min early and ending 5 min late

Program 2 CBS 9pm w/ starting 5 min early and ending 5 min late

Program 3 NBC 9pm w/ starting 5 min early and ending 5 min late

I used to be able to do this no problem as recording back to back on the same channel were not in conflict, now on only one of my Tivo's it is conflicting. but only 1 the other one works no problem.

I have rebooted and done a manual call and still having the problem

any suggestions?

Thanks

Tom

New Roamio Pro Stuck in Reboot Loop during setup

I purchased a new Roamio a few months ago directly from Tivo, but I just now unboxed it to install after my Premiere XL4 year of monthly sub stopped.

I installed the cable card fine, got it paired, and started guided setup. Downloaded the update and said it was going to install and restart a few times.

I'm not sure if it installed or not, but eventually when I came back in the room the Tivo was at the "Welcome!" screen where I have to choose the country. If I leave it on that screen, the Tivo will reboot on its own after about 30 seconds. If I go all the way through, it will reboot while trying to connect on "Getting Info" and get back to that screen again.

I've tried with the cablecard inserted and with it removed.

I've replaced the power cable.

I've unplugged for a minute and replugged in as well.

Is this a hard drive issue? Any thoughts on how to resolve this?

Thanks for any and all help.

Grey's Anatomy - CURRENT SEASON **SPOILERS**

Anyone still watching!!

Yeah, its too soapy form most but I've been watching since day one so I'm stuck with it!!

One of the current things that bugs me is the fight between Kepner and Avery. I've always kind of liked Kepner's character and OK if she is a very religious person. But didn't she realize when she married Avery, who is NOT a religious person at all, that there were going to have to be some compromises on how any future children are raised. They just got married at the beginning of the season (with her going to marry someone else a the end of last season and she runs off with Avery at the ceremony) and already they have what may be an insurmountable problem that she didn't think was going to happen.

Oh well, that's why its sometimes more soap than real drama!!

How Good Are the Tivo Premiere Tuners?

Hey all,

My fiancee just dumped cable because it got too expensive. She's got an indoor antenna in the window. Her 2010 Panasonic plasma gets lots of dropouts in the signal. I'm sure it doesn't help that the window faces North and the local transmitters are all Southeastward.

Her landlord refuses to let an antenna be installed on the roof. I'm aware the FCC forbids that sort of thing, but she doesn't want to fight him about it.

I just took advantage of the Tivo Premiere special at Tivo.com (got the one with the OTA tuner, of course), and am wondering if I installed this thing at her place, would it get a more consistent signal than her TV's built-in tuner? In other words, can it handle a weak signal better than the TV's tuner can?

Comments? Thanks!

Pandora stuck on "Loading"

We listen to Pandora fairly often on a wired internet connection that averages 45Mbps using a Pandora account. Occasionally after a song finishes we get a "Loading" message and nothing happens and we've waited this out for fifteen minutes. If I push the Live or Tivo buttons and reopen Pandora it works fine and give you a sense the problem happens maybe once every 2-3 hours of having Pandora playing.

This isn't the "are you still listening" message because it has hung shortly after responding to that. Any idea if there is a bug reported on this? We are using a Romio Plus

Free Tivo Slide Pro Remote?

Did anyone else just get an order confirmation for a free slide pro remote? I didn't place the order and the total was $0.00. There wasn't a message as to why either. Weird.

Only one tuner fails

Our Premiere Plus (6-tuners) has tuners 0, 2, 3, 4 and 5 showing up as good in the Diagnostics page, but tuner 1 shows no good numbers. (system info / dvr diagnostics)

Anyone else see this?

And it's been costing us programming--on busy nights (Sunday), one of our programs of the six concurrent ones will fail to record properly because of this. In the History section, it says "no signal" for that one.

I tried TiVo via chat, and they suggested getting Xfinity to replace the card. Dreading that, but what else can I do.

Ask the experts time

It seems my MRV is not working and pytivo is not working. Well some of it works Let me break it down. I have Cox OC Calif and 3 Tivos.

1. (living room) Tivo S3 with LED time display seems ok can MRV with no problem

2. (great room)Premiere works slow menus suck but I can see other tivos NPL but when I try to transfer a show I get a window that tells me the show can not be found on the tivo

3. (master bedroom)Roamio Plus works great can MRV with no problem.

Also now to top it off my Pytivo is not working right nothing has changed on my network and all of this seems to have started when I added HBO. On my pytivo window when I start the localhost I can see all the tivos and when I try to connect to them I can connect to all of them but the Ramio(master bedroom). I get a Message unable to connect to 192.168.1.10

That is the IP of the Tivo and I can ping it from the pytivo host pc.

I know I just gave a lot of info but I want to make sure to cover everything.

last small part I'm running a MoCa network with no problems all network test are passed.

Roamio on 2 Internal IP addresses?

I have a Roamio Plus and 2 Mini's on my network, however the attached devices list on my router shows 4 Tivos on my network with the TSN of the Roamio showing up on 2 different IP addresses. What's especially weird about it is that it shows 2 different MAC addresses as well. They are almost identical but one ends in DE and the other in DF. When I type the IP address of the ghost Tivo in my browser I can log into it with my MAK number but after logging in the page says Resource not found. Doesn't seem to cause any problems but I am really curious as to where it's coming from. I have mixed ethernet + moca network. Is that causing it?

Netflix is coming to cable: TiVo DVRs to stream programming

I'm not sure if this has been discussed here, but it's news to me.

Quote:

Netflix: It's not just for computers anymore. On Thursday (April 24), the online network announced that it would be launching directly into the television world via partnerships with TiVo DVRs and three cable networks.

Variety reports customers who get cable from RCN Communications, Atlantic Broadband and Grande Communications will be able to watch Netflix on their TVs, with Atlantic Broadband customers expected to get the channel as early as Monday (April 28). Those with existing Netflix accounts should be able to watch programming immediately, while those without accounts can get a free month's subscription before signing up for the standard service.

The participating cable providers are comparatively tiny, cumulatively serving about 700,000 customers in a limited number of states. There is no word yet on whether Netflix expects to expand to larger providers like Comcast or Time Warner.

Although a TiVo will be required for any viewer wanting to view Netflix, Atlantic Broadband viewers will be able to find Netflix on their channel grid. Netflix programming -- as well as some programming licensed to Netflix from other sources -- like "House of Cards," "Orange Is the New Black" and more will be available like other series.

About to Pull the Trigger on a Roamio Plus

I've been a long time lurker on this board and just recently started posting. I've done my research and I think I know what I want, but I wanted to run it buy everyone here first. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. I currently have Verizon FIOS in the Tampa, FL area and will be purchasing: 1 - Tivo Roamio Plus and 2 - Tivo Minis. As I see it there is absolutely no difference between the Plus and the Pro except a bigger hard drive and I can ad an external one for much cheaper than $200. Am I correct on this? I did have 3 questions that I hope everyone can help me with.

1. The Roamio Plus will output on both HDMI and Component simultaneously, right?

2. How sensitive are the Tivo Minis to the IR signal from the remote? I've read some posts of people have the Mini mounted behind the TV, but still able to use the regular remote w/o an IR extender. Does anyone have experience with this?

3. If I have an IR extender plugged into the Roamio, will the IR input on the main unit still work? (I have the main unit in my upstairs bonus room and then have an HDMI cable and IR extender cable run down to my living room on the first floor. Neither of these TV's are used at the same time.)

4. Do they sell just the RF USB adapter that comes with the slide remote?

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

P.S. I purchased a discount code off ebay and it looks like I will only be using it for 1 Roamio Plus and 2 minis. If anyone lives in my area and wants to share the code with me I'd be more then happy to help another Tivo person out. Just let me know!

Slide remote - keyboard broke

Anyone have any luck fixing these? The outside buttons all work ok, but on the keyboard, many of the letters don't work anymore, though a lot still do.

This is the old bluetooth slide, not the new one.

kmttg does not CONVERT on *.tivo files on my PC

Hi,

I have about 1.5 TB of *.tivo files. I seem to hate to get rid of old TV shows.

I would like to drop my tivo subscription, and convert all of these files to some more usable format.

Something readable by windows media player and /or quicktime. I prefer WMP.

I've been trying to use kmttg, but don't seem to be able to get the right combination of options.

To be clear: KMTTG works FINE for copying and converting files that are still on my tivo.

I'm having trouble converting the ones that have been copied to my PC using Tivo Desktop.

I saw a note in another thread about NOT using "Fast Transfer". It turns out that that box was checked in my Tivo Desktop.

I assume that once my tivo subscription is dropped, I will not be able to watch the *.tivo files ... so, I'm trying to convert them.

I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards,

Pat

Can Roamio help replace the Actiontec with FIOS?

Hello all!

I'm a current FIOS user, with a Roamio and a Mini on my network, all using MOCA. I'm looking to upgrade to 802.11ac and was reading about how to do that with the existing Actiontec router. Plenty of guides online of how to do that by either using both routers, or switching my ONT to ethernet.

However it occurred to me, since the Roamio can bridge ethernet and MOCA, can I drop the Actiontec from my network, purchase a new AC router, and wire it to the roamio ethernet port, and have everything work?

I've read that the Roamio can work without the Actiontec via MOCA, but what's unclear to me is if I can chain the rest of my network off of the Roamio, utilizing it's MOCA-Ethernet bridge? Would the Roamio and Mini (as well as all other devices) be able to use the new router for DHCP? Would this have any other effect on the Tivo Mini, which I would still want to use MOCA as well?

New Roamio Pro on Charter Spectrum

As Charter is about to go all digital (Spectrum) in my area on May 6th, looks like I will need to sunset my Tivo DT and Toshivo and get a Roamio Pro. From the looks of it, the latest firmware for the CC supports all 6 tuners. What's the story the with tuning adapter, SDV etc? Does that limit what can be recorded simultaneously?:confused::confused:

3 TiVos in the same room

I currently have a Series 3 (OLED) and a TiVo Mini in our main bedroom. I am using an older glo remote for both. It has the 1-2 switch on it and it works good.

I have another lifetime Series 3 (HD) and am trying to sell it on Craigslist. Until it sells, I thought about maybe putting it in this bedroom as well and use for additional storage (& connect it to another HDMI input on TV). I didn't do it before because I didn't think a 3rd TiVo unit could be used in the same room & controlled independently, but then I saw this:

http://ift.tt/1nNZQ9r

I'm thinking I could program this 3rd TiVo in the same room to operate totally independent from the first 2 (with a 2nd TiVo remote). is this possible?

Trouble w/transfers from pc to 1 of 2 TiVos

Current installation:

2- Series 3 HD TiVos - 'A' & 'B'

64 bit desktop PC with Windows 7 Pro & TiVo Desktop+ 2.8.3

Wired network

PC contains 2 folders, 1 to transfer videos to 'A' another for 'B'.

TiVos & PC see each other & downloads from TiVos TO PC OK.

Symptom example:

3-48 minute videos are placed in B's's folder. Almost immediately, transfer begins & all 3 successfully transfer in about 37 minutes. Once upon a time, A behaved the same as B, but no more! The same 3 videos are then placed in A's folder & eventually transfer after 15-1/2 HOURS.

Details of the transfers to A are as follows:

Mon 4:40pm 3 videos placed in A's transfer folder.

4:42pm Transfer of video 1 begins, but aborts after about 1 min.

6:06pm Transfer of video 1 begins again, but aborts after about 1 min.

9:42pm Transfer of video 1 completes.

9:54pm Transfer of video 2 begins, but aborts after about 1 min.

Tue 3:57am Transfer of video 2 completes.

4:11am Transfer of video 3 begins but aborts after about 1 min.

8:08am Transfer of video 3 completes.

For each of the aborted A attempts, recording history indicates "Not Downloaded" - "This program was not downloaded onto this DVR because someone in your household canceled the transfer." Of course - this is bogus!

All of the typical steps - reboot PC-TiVo-modem, clear & reinstall Desktop+, clear PC cache & restart Desktop+, & probably some others that I forgot.

Since B works like a charm on the same network & same PC there must be something in A's box that is trigerring a 'cancel'. But WHAT?

Upgrading TCD746320 to 2TB WD20EURS Questions

Hi Everyone,

I have been reading through all the posts on upgrading and I have a few questions. I see that everyone uses DVRBARS, WinMFS, and JMFS to complete the upgrades, but it seems there is a ton of options between these three programs to complete the task. I would like to do this in the easiest way possible.

I purchased a TCD746320 off Ebay. It is used but currently doesn't have any recordings on it. I want to copy the existing 320G hard drive and load the data on a new WD20EURS. I am assuming I would use the truncated backup method since the unit is not new and I don't have any recordings to transfer.

Can someone list a step by step process for my situation? Seems like this would be a relatively easy process, but I am confused on what programs to use at what time. I see that I probably need to expand and super size as well but not sure at what step these fit in to the process and what programs to use.

Seems like there has been a lot of process refining that has occurred over the years and I want to know the best and simplest way to do this currently.

Thanks for answering my newb questions in advance!

Roamio (Basic) 3TB HDD Upgrade - Easy Question (for you guys)

Sorry if I shouldn't have started a new thread.....

I just received my Roamio (basic) and am currently running the WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics EXTENDED TEST (8 hrs down 12 hrs to go) on my WD30EURX 3TB HDD.

I am a Comcast/Xfinity customer, I have the M-Card, and have not unboxed the TiVo yet.

The TiVo was purchased directly from TiVo with Lifetime Service, and was likely shipped Pre-Activated.

Should I swap the HDD BEFORE initial power up and M-Card set-up.... or get it working as shipped from TiVo and then swap the HDD?

Thanks for your help!

Netflix 'Integration' into TIVO and the Guide?

What is this new Netflix integration into Tivo for these cable companies mean? Is this just what we already have? We have Netflix streaming on a menu in Tivo, but not in the Guide...

The article says: "Netflix will also be displayed like a "channel" in the guide.".

I don't have my Netflix subscription as a 'channel' in the guide. That could be very cool.. But I assume that since Netflix has a 20second - minute load time, that the cable company must be doing something to make it 'instant' like a normal channel???

Does anybody have more details on what this is?

random tuning problems on a Premiere

I have a 2-tuner Premiere that seems to be having random tuning issues. It can happen on various channels at any given time. One minute my HBO channels will tune in fine, the next they won't (v53 error). I thought maybe because it was a premium channel, but its happening on other standard channels (Nick, Disney, Espn, NHL, etc.). It even happens on the my local channels (NBC, ABC, Fox, etc.).

I checked the quality of the signal and its always in the 90s. I changed the coaxial cable coming from the wall and still the same problem. I even tried several other TiVos on this same outlet and they don't have the issue. I also moved this 2-tuner premiere to other outlets, but its STILL having the same random tuning issue.

The only thing left that I can think of that might be the problem is to have the cable card paired with the box again. I am with Comcast and I have used their special cable card hotline in the past for other boxes so will try them again.

If it doesn't do it, any other ideas what might be going on here? Also, can TiVo possibly help out with this as well?

2 Tivos-1 room

I have a Premiere XL, getting ready to set up an XL 4, in same room, using Charter cable card.

1. Have one coax cable, hooked to tuning adapter, then to XL. How do I hook up the XL 4 to the cable? I have a new cable card, with a new tuning adapter. Can I run the cable through one adapter for both Tivos, or do I need 2 adapters? Do I have to split the cable, and if so, will I lose signal strength? Does each Tivo have to be hooked up separately to the cable?

2. How do I get one remote to contol one Tivo, and the other remote to control the other Tivo?

Thanks

Roamio 4Tb Drive Development Thread

Is anyone working on DIY 4tb drive upgrade and is it worth starting a new thread here ? I must say that after having 3tb of storage in my Roamio, it's somewhat overwhelming and I do see having 4tb of storage as being unmanageable. I would like to figure this out simply as a challenge to overcome but in a practical day to day operation, having that much recording storage is crazy!

I'm not a hex editor type but with the recent thoughts of the image copy distribution of the drive that came up, I have an idea I would like to throw out to perhaps get things started in a legit manner rather than just copying someone else's work. Can't tell me that there are only one or two people on the Internet (other than Tivo themselves) that can figure this out!

My out of the blue idea: Has anyone done a sector copy of stock Roamio drive and then applied it to a 4tb drive? I plowed though the big Roamio drive upgrade thread and saw what happens when you put a raw 4tb drive in and the box tries to format it but rejects it but, what would happen if the basic unreadable image of a stock drive was written to the beginning of a 4tb drive, could that possibly overcome that initial rejection? I'm curious what something like Clonzilla could do.... It's my thought that perhaps there is no partition on the Roamio drive and when the box boots up, it looks for the drive and reads raw data off the drive at the beginning of the drive which contains "is this good" drive and if so the OS continues the boot and initialization process until everything is loaded. This is just my thought as unless I'm wrong, all conventional attempts to read the partitions in the conventional manner has failed, there must be a completely new and different file/data structure in place which would indicate a raw, most likely encrypted, data being written to the drive in a Stream like process.

Another issue which I mention in another thread which is a possible clue, those who have the 4tb drive solution are offering it for each Roamio model, their drive kits they offer don't appear to be a universal solution but each prepared drive only works in the model the buyer intends to install the prepared drive in. DVR Dude is very explicit in his eBay description that his kits can't be installed in a different Roamio model than specified. That implies there is some basic required identifying information on the drive that is required to start a successful identification process when the Roamio boots up. If the drive imaging process of a stock drive doesn't work, is there a utility that can read the raw sector data on a drive, save it and then rewrite such to another drive? Again I'm not describing using one of these prepared drives to accomplish this but to use a initialized stock drive to prepare a 4tb drive.

I have a extra basic Roamio and I'm pretty sure I going to buy a 4tb drive and start experimenting, in the worse case I can use the 4tb drive for other purposes if it doesn't work out but I'm hoping others might chime in and offer practical ideas. I'm willing to start something with providing the basic hardware and time, however I need assistance from some of you more knowledgeable TiVo hard drive gurus.

What do you think?

New Tivo Roamio Pro + Cable Card (Report)

So a few days ago I bought a Roamio and some Minis with some help from a forum member which saved me a ton of cash...Today it arrived and I set it up

After having read so many horror storries with the Comcast Cable Cards I geared up for war. As it turns out I was overprepared

1. Unboxed the Roamio

2. Ran through the guided setup (connected via Ethernet)

3. Inserted card, called the number on the screen (as it turns out this was the only thing that went wrong as it was not the cable card support, but I did eventually get to the Cable Card Support)

4. I talked to the rep for about 10 minutes while their provisioned/paired the card

5. I got off the phone and all channels were gathered

6. ** VERY IMPORTANT PART HERE ** ALL SIX of my tuners were working right from the start. Recorded 5 channels simultaneously to test and watched a separate channel..When I tried to record on this last tuner though I got a conflict warning (but basically because I have +1 minute setting on recordings so it wanted to use this last tuner to start conflicting programs during that one minute that they are still both recording.

7. Enabled MoCA on the Roamio.

8. Unboxed 2 of the 3 Minis and set them up one at a time (update required/downloaded/installed) and can see all my recorded content from them.

Overall the Comcast signal in my HD channels is comparable to my Dish Network signal. I'm going to let the installation cook for one week and then if everything is still good then Dish is going bye bye.

BTW, the card is a Motorola M-Card (red) for Comcast (Broward County,FL). I was told they have Ciscos but they are for a different county.

Anyway, hope this helps anyone trying to decide what to do.

independent lens - "muscle shoals" - se15 ep17 oad 4/21/2014

for music lovers (and documentery fans), pbs is airing an episode of independent lens this week on muscle shoals, alabama.

i live very close to muscle shoals today, and remember coming across the city in album liner notes frequently when i was growing up.

it focuses on fame studios and it's founder rick hall, and the local studio musicians ("swampers"), who many assumed were all black r&b artists after hearing the music. bono, donna jean godchaux, jimmy cliff, and keith richards open the film, and it features commentary, music, and interviews with aretha franklin, gregg allman, clarence carter, mick jagger, alicia keys, percy sledge, steve winwood, and paul simon.

there's original photos and archive footage, including interviews with the late wilson pickett and etta james, and it talks about muscle shoals sound's contribution to bob dylan, rod stewart, boz scaggs, joe cocker, glenn frey, willie nelson, john prine, carlos santana, dire straits, dr. hook, linda ronstadt, bob seger, cher, lynyrd skynyrd, etc.

guide note: tms is showing this as se12 ep19, tvguide shows as se15 ep17, oad 4/21/2014 - who knows...

TiVo Actiontec MoCa adapters and cable modems

Short version of the question - do the Actiontec adapters that TiVo sells have a built in filter for the output side to keep the MoCa signals from interfering with a cable modem, or might I need to add that independently?

I have a current MoCa setup using a pair of Motorola SBM100x devices that is mostly working except for 2 issues:

- I had a ton of C13x problems over the past few weeks, but they seem to have resolved in the past few days (hopefully)

- My cable modem (Zoom 5341) has had random reboots of late

Back in the midst of the C13x errors I decided that maybe the Roamio would be happier if I was using the official TiVo adapters made by Actiontec so I ordered a pair (pretty cheap, wish I had just gone with them originally, but I got the SBM1000s at a local BB so it was more immediate gratification). They arrived, but in my delays to get around to installing them the C13x errors have seemed to have gone away (an upgrade to 20.4.1 may have caused that).

The other reason for getting the Actiontecs was in case they played more friendly with my cable modem and might improve its stability. For that reason, I'm wondering if the Actiontecs will automatically filter the output coax to prevent the MoCa from interfering with my cable modem. The SBM1000s came with separate filters in the box and I haven't used them (yet), but when I get around to experimenting with stability I'm curious if Actiontec+filter would be overkill or not?

At this point the simple solution may be to just go with my existing SBM1000s and add their filter to my modem, but the Actiontecs would overall be a cleaner install since the SBM1000s use an external splitter which just adds more connections and visual and physical clutter to my installs - the Actiontecs would thus be less clutter and more officially supported in the long run.

As an aside: Note that one aspect of my current setup is that I'm using the Roamio to bridge the MoCa into the rest of my AV cabinet using its "MoCa + ethernet" mode. When the C13x errors were at their worst it was odd that the rest of my AV cabinet had internet service (which would be going through the Roamio) just fine, which I suppose means that the internal MoCa on the Roamio was working fine with my SBM1000s, but I digress.

30 For 30 "Hillsborough"

Anybody else seen? I thought this was a pretty powerful bit of documentary work.

I do wish there were a way to hear from the apparently-guilty police officials involved, but they may be dead by now, or still at legal risk so they cannot speak publicly.

Amazing (not in a good way) that the investigation of this tragedy is STILL ongoing, thanks to the attendant cover-up.

Clueless upgrading to new roamio

I have an old Tivo (HD I believe) with a 1tb external expander drive that I finally decided to replace with a Roamio. The new Tivo showed up today. My cable provider is Comcast.

1. Will I be able to just take the MCard from the old unit and plug it into the Roamio and pair it myself or will I have to call the cable company and have them do it?

2. Is there an easy way to transfer the shows on my old Tivo to the Roamio?

3. Will the external expander drive work with the Roamio? Will I need to clear it or just plug it in?

Right now BOTH units have Tivo subscriptions but I will be cancelling the old unit after everything is up and going again.

Sorry for the basic questions here but I am clueless with these things.

Opinions on Frontier FIOS (Edmonds, WA)?

Does anyone have any opinions they would like to share about Frontier FIOS (with respect to TiVo Premier)? We are considering buying a house in Edmonds, WA, and Frontier serves that area.

Some specific questions:

  • Do they provide M-cards (and will they work with the Premier)?

  • Do they set the copy protection flag for "premium" channel only, all cable channels, or all channels?

  • Does the Premier support Frontier's VOD?

I see a fair bit of discussion about Verizon, but less discussion about Frontier, and I get the impression that Verizon has moved forward since the split, with faster technology and less onerous copy protection.

Thanks ... Mike

what should the ranges be for Signal and SNR be

I have a Premier elite tivo. Some times I get heavy Pixelations. This happen on all channels. My signal level is around 88 most of the time and the SNR is around 34 or 35 range. I would like to know what are the ranges for the signal and SNR are?

Apple app doesn't believe it's at home

Perhaps this is a easy problem however when I connect to my Tivo the app thinks I'm not on my home network when in fact I am.

I have rebooted my stream, restarted my apple touch and yet when connected to wifi on my home network, I don't use my stream much so I have no clue, this has worked fine in the past just been awhile since I used it last.

Howto disassemble a Roamio remote

Got my Roamio basic last weekend and the IR portion of the remote does not work. After working with TiVo tech support for about an hour they are sending a replacement. They said I could do whatever I wanted with the one I have. Being a techie, I'd like to see if it could be repaired but have not found a means of getting it open without breaking it. The Roamio RF/IR remote appear to be constructed a bit different from the previous peanut remotes:

1- It does not have a screw in the battery compartment.

2- There is no obvious place to pry the two halves apart.

3- The front insert covering the buttons can be removed by pushing a small screw driver through the two small holes under where the + (positive) ends of the batteries go then prying it up with a credit card.

Unfortunately that does not seem to expose a means of separating the top and bottom halves. The 11 small rectangular holes around the edges are where the front insert snaps in and do not appear to have any other purpose.

So, anyone on the forum manage to get theirs apart without damaging it?

Premiere is dying... I think?!

Hello all, I'd love your thoughts on the issues we are having with our Premiere:

About 2 weeks ago it we had an hour long show whose file seemed to be corrupted. We were able to watch the first 15 minutes, but past that point, we couldn't get the file to move foward, we were always brought back to the start of the show. We chalked it up to a bad sector on the HD, and hoped that the TIVO would recognize that and skip that sector in the future.

This past weekend A wish list item that I had made sure was going to record in the to do list recorded, but them immediately was deleted. We had about 40% of our 75 hours of space left, so I was suspicious, but Sunday WAS a busy day for the Tivo. I was pretty annoyed, but just assumed that space was tight at that time.

So, a couple of days later we see that numerous shows on Sunday, and Monday did the same thing, recorded, and then deleted immediately. We were now at a point where 60% of the space was free, and there wasn't much being recorded. To top it off, other shows that had been on the Tivo for weeks were being deleted as well.

I'm assuming that one of these items is the culprit: A: HD is dying fast, and I need to replace it, B) Tivo is recognizing that large chunks of the HD are dead, and we really only have about 50% of the HD space functional for use. C) Tivo itself is dying.

If it is A or B, I can easily get a new HD off of weaknees. It's an annoyance, but I wanted to upgrade our HD size soon anyway. But how do I figure out if the system itself is ok before I spend $200 on it?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Roamio Pro sometimes freezing when playing recording

I've noticed a few times now where I'm recording a baseball game and start playing the recording (while it's still recording) that for no reason the audio/video will freeze indefinitely almost as though I've hit the pause button. It never crashes or locks up, but just freezes the picture/audio. If I hit the replay button, it continues playing again as if nothing happened. I've ruled out hardware because this was happening with my other Roamio Pro which I recently got replaced because of a different issue.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Cannot get Roamio Plus into kickstart mode.

Believe I have hard disk problems and trying to get Roamio Plus into kickstart mode but it just goes right past and boots all the way up.

At weakness http://ift.tt/1iP62xt it gives some simple instructions on how to do this, but each time it just boots all the way up.

This thread http://ift.tt/1iP65t7 talks about you have to wait for the Green led to go out. When I restart the Tivo the Green light never goes out like he talks about (it does briefly go out at the very beginning, but this occurs immediately after restart).

I don't have an RF remote (it's just the simple peanut with no Qwerty board) so that should not be a problem. I have tried multiple things.

1. hit pause for 2 seconds

2. hit pause for 3 seconds

3. wait a few seconds before entering 54 kickstart code

4. wait over a second between the 5 and the 4 like the above thread mentioned.

5. wait a few seconds when yellow light begins to flash.

Nothing works.

Here is what happens.

1. Green light is on

2. Red light is off and never comes on during the whole process.

3. Yellow light is off.

4. Go to Settings & Messages->Help->Restart or Reset

5. Thumbs Down 3 times

6. Press Enter (yellow light goes on briefly when I hit enter that I assume is just showing that the Remote control was recieved)

7. Green light briefly goes off and back on (like 1/4 of a second)

8. Screen display Welcome! Starting up...

6. After about 20 seconds yellow circle starts to randomly flash.

7. Immediately I hit the pause and hold for 2 seconds.

8. Yellow light continues to randomly flash.

9. I press 5 and release (normal button press).

10. Wait another second and press 4 and release (normal button press).

11. Yellow light continues to flash for a couple of more seconds (never goes steady, just continues to flash in sort of a random rate).

12. After another seconds or 2 screen goes blank for a few seconds

13. Displays Almost there... Just a few minutes more.

12. Roamio completes its boot up completely after about another 1 to 2 minutes.

So what am I doing wrong to try and get this into kickstart mode and do the code 54 for the Hard Disk test? This is a fairly new unit (less than 3 months).
