Used Premiere with "11:Evaluation" status?

I purchased a used Premiere off of Ebay and the seller claimed that it had lifetime service.

I hooked it up and went through guided setup and on the System Information page, it says...

TiVo Service Account Status: 11:Evaluation

I asked the seller to call TiVo and have the unit (and lifetime service) transferred to my account but I haven't called TiVo yet to complete the transfer.

Is this some kind of transitional service level until it is officially moved to my account?

I'm planning to call TiVo tomorrow to see what they have to say, but I figured someone here has probably seen this account status before and knows what it means.

Rovi appoints Thompson COO, focus on TiVo product integration

Quote:

Rovi Appoints Pete Thompson as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer
Technology Industry Leader to Join September 6, 2016

August 31, 2016 08:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time
SAN CARLOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) today announced that Pete Thompson will join the company as executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective September 6, 2016. Reporting to Rovi’s president and CEO, Tom Carson, Mr. Thompson will be based in the TiVo office in San Jose to directly oversee the product integration activities of the combined companies after the closing of the acquisition of TiVo Inc. by Rovi.

“As Rovi and TiVo prepare to join forces as one company, Silicon Valley will become an even greater focal point for our product businesses and organization, and the Board of Directors and I are extremely pleased that we’ll have a strong presence with Pete in the Bay Area,” said Mr. Carson. “Pete has a proven ability to accelerate product development and drive significant revenue growth inside technology organizations. Upon closing of the TiVo acquisition, Pete’s initial focus will be on integrating the companies’ best-of-breed technological and product capabilities to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities and synergies formed by the new organization.”

“Pete’s skills, experience and deep knowledge of the industry make him a natural choice for this position, and I am excited he has decided to join our company. His product orientation and operational expertise will help further our momentum and commitment to increase our market impact and drive stockholder value,” added Mr. Carson.

With more than 20 years of experience in building new businesses and product categories across a range of industries and technologies, Mr. Thompson has managed dozens of product launches. He also brings broad leadership experience to Rovi, having run global organizations of engineering, sales, marketing, operations, and customer support teams.

At Ericsson, Mr. Thompson was senior vice president of the Mediaroom Business Group, where he was responsible for defining the future of home entertainment through the development of products that appealed to consumers, producers and carriers. He has also held a number of senior leadership positions at Microsoft, including corporate vice president, Microsoft Mediaroom; senior general manager, Xbox LIVE; and general manager, Microsoft Surface. Most recently, Mr. Thompson served as vice president, strategic partnerships at Sonos, where he built an organization to launch a developer platform for music services, music apps and home management providers. Earlier in his career, he was at T-Mobile as executive director, HotSpot and he served in several roles with increasing responsibility at HP. Additionally, Mr. Thompson has Board of Director experience serving on the Boards of Sigma Designs and SeaWell Networks, which was acquired by ARRIS.

“I am enthusiastic about joining Rovi during this important time and collaborating with the senior leadership team to reinforce our focus on a strong product culture and executing with excellence,” said Mr. Thompson. “I couldn’t be more energized by the opportunity ahead to bring together unparalleled portfolios that enable traditional, over-the-top (OTT) and emerging providers to deliver compelling consumer experiences as we set the pace for innovation industry wide.”

Concurrent with Mr. Thompson’s appointment, John Burke, executive vice president, will move into a strategic advisor role through the end of the year to provide a seamless transition and assist the company in the initial stages of integration and execution of its synergy plans. Mr. Burke is not able to relocate from the East Coast for personal reasons and has made the decision to leave Rovi. “Throughout his tenure, John and his team have been instrumental in building a strong foundation for our product offerings, and we are fortunate that John will be supporting the transition,” said Mr. Carson.
Sounds like they're indeed going to be partnering with an OTT "emerging provider".. Could it be Vue or DirecTV Now? Layer3? Hulu? Thoughts?

Trailing asterisk in every description

I know this is a minor issue given the problems following the Rovi changeover, but has anyone else noticed that every show's description now ends with an asterisk? I'm on Comcast if that matters.

If you look at it with pyTivo, KMTTG, etc. It actually shows "* Copyright Rovi, Inc.". I'm guessing someone made a really poor architecture choice to insert this message into every description and strip it from displaying on the Tivo itself.

In any case, would be nice to strip the * from the end of each description.

A special request of a Bolt owner from an S1 owner

As I've mentioned elsewhere, my wife really enjoys fast-forwarding with closed-captioning on the S1. I've been told that it's actually possible to do this with the subtitles on the latest models, which is great... but I seem to have a bit of Missourian in me, as I'd like to see. Best Buy doesn't have anything on display, so...

Would you take some quick video of this working for me? Not looking for a big production... and if it already exists somewhere, I'd be happy to be pointed to it.

No host DVR selection, and streaming episode watched status

After treading water with Directv for 10 years, I've recently come back to TiVo. And, it's nice to be back. I have a Roamio basic (Comcast), a Roamio OTA, and 3 Minis. I realize there are technical hurdles that may, or may not, stand in the way of these suggestions. I also realize not all users may want what I want, so they could be options in the Settings. But, here are a few things I'd like to see.

1. Don't make me choose a host DVR for the Mini. Just have all the TiVo devices in my home be more aware of each other, and the capabilities/contents of each device.

2. As a result of #1 above, don't have me go to a specific DVR for recordings. Just show a combined list of all recordings on all DVRs in My Shows. Have this feature not only for the Minis, but also for the Roamios/Bolts.

3. Also as a result of #1 above, since my two Roamios have different channel lineups, just show the combined list of channels for both DVRs in the Guide. If people have multiple DVRs with the same channel lineup, show a single entry in the guide for a given channel, and when a channel is selected, default to the DVR with most tuners available. Again, have this feature not only for the Minis, but also for the Roamios/Bolts.

4. Lastly, just like in their respective apps, it would be great if in a OnePass that includes streaming episodes, it indicated that a streaming episode had been watched in the My Shows list.

Thx!

Rovi guide switch: Thanks TiVo for doing the best you could in a difficult situation

After reading all the threads about the guide switch-over, I was dreading it. However after having experienced it last night, I can now say honestly that at least for me it really was nearly painless.

Yes, I had to go in and remove many new channels that showed up in my guide. But I didn't miss any recordings, my OnePasses are intact, my ToDo list seems correct, and, well, everything still seems to work.

I understand and appreciate the magnitude of a change like this from a technical standpoint. I am thankful that TiVo got it working as smoothly as they did. Extra channels that showed up in the guide, and a few extra episodes showed up in the ToDo list, because TiVo chooses to err on the side of caution -- which is the correct design.

Thank you TiVo for doing the best you could under what were almost certainly rushed and difficult circumstances, with a guide data source that is at this point possibly not as high-quality as what you had before. Hopefully you can influence your new owners to improve their quality.

Going away soon

How is that determined? I assume the yellow circle with the exclamation mark means it is going away soon.
The show count is 25 and I have about 75% disk space remaining but a bunch of shows say going away soon with only 5 or 6 in the bucket.

1P with Rovi Data

If you have a 1P for a program, you might want to check your To Do List for a few days. Seems Rovi doesn't like Season and Episode numbers so much. If you leave the 1P at S01 it should be ok. If you have it set to reality, there could be a problem.

I noticed this with late night shows.

reliable 2.5" drive for Tivo Bolt?

I've now killed 2 of the Samsung/Seagate 4TB drives, in under a week each, it's obvious to me that these cheap laptop drives cannot stand up to the rigors of DVR usage, spinning 24 X 7 with heavy usage.

This is the drive, FYI:
Samsung Momentus 4TB SATA III 5400 RPM 2.5-inch Hard Drive (ST4000LM016)

Has anyone found a RELIABLE, 2, 3 or 4TB 2.5" laptop drive to expand their Tivo BOLT reliably? If so, I'd like to hear about it, I am getting tired of setting up these drives and re-doing my OnePass's from scratch...

Thanks,

Mitch

Ethernet port on Moca-connected Mini

If I have a Tivo Mini connected to my Bolt via Moca, can I use the ethernet port on the mini to connect another device that requires wired internet (not a Tivo related device)?

Do not run guided setup on series one

We have one, they won't transfer the lifetime due to July 31. Wanted to get last updates and switch to cable from satellite. So ran guided setup. Calls in, gets list of numbers. BUT THEY ARE ALL DISCONNECTED, says service not answering. So can't even use the box for manual recordings or watch your old shows, stuck in guided setup forever. I confirmed this with Tivo. So if you want to use your series 1 manually and/or watch your old recordings don't run guided setup, it pretty much bricks your box, no wireless avaiable for series one and all the call in numbers deactivated.

Esquire is airing the original "Ninja Warrior" basically all day 9/3-9/5 (except their late night informercial times apparently).

Bolt install

Need some advice if available.

Here is my current setup:

1 Roamio with 4 Mini's

Comcast is my provider - Not X1

I bought a Bolt and want to add the Bolt to one of the rooms where a Mini currently resides. Take that Mini and put it where the Roamio is.

I haven't attempted anything yet - it's been 2 years since the original install and that took me 3 days to get all dialed in.

Any advice or links to the process is greatly appreciated.

Steve

Selling my 2 gig Tivo Bolt

Bought it last January after not liking the boxes from Time Warner. Hated the usb box to get all channels using the Bolt. After the merger with Charter started I've begun getting more slow response from the usb converter.
Selling 2gig Tivo Bolt. Still has about 5 months on the original Tivo subscription.
I'm also including 2 mini's with one having the rf dongle.
Also I'm throwing in the Tivo remote with the sliding keyboard. I'm willing to part for $300 or best offer. I accept Paypal, only.

Moving back to Dish with the Hopper 3 and 16 tuners!

My channel lineup got switched!

Sometime in the last week, the cable provider on my Bolt and likewise on my Rosmio Plus switched from Verizon FiOS in Baltimore County, Maryland to Verizon FiOS in Silver Spring, Maryland. This played havoc with my channel lineup and messed up my OnePass recording from certain channels. I had to redo Guided Setup to get back to my correct provider. Does anyone know how this could have happened?

HDFury 2 HDMI to Component

Just upgraded my television and thought someone here might be able to use this. Does a perfect job of converting an HDMI signal for use with a TV that only has component inputs. (ie: tiVo Roamio or Bolt)

HELP TiVo USERS>>>

I currently have Charter. Wanna switch to Tivo. I've been reading several things but I am still a little confused. We want all our local channels, sports channels, etc. Here are my following questions:
1-what equipment (if any) do I need to keep from my Charter provider? We currently have cable, wifi (internet, not sure if they are the same), phone. We have coax and wireless wifi and HDMI currently.
2- We record many football, movies and shows on TV in HD. So which is the better buy for us? Roamio or Bolt? And what are the best buys for service provided? And are there any extra items I need to purchase?
3-Does it provide "On Demand"?
4-What is the card everyone refers to that I may need? (memory card or something?)

Any advice or guidance would be EXTREMELY appreciated.
I'm just lost....:(

Roamio Streaming/Downloading problems to iOS devices

I have never had consistent behavior either streaming or downloading from my Roamio to my ipad/iphones.

Usually downloads will start just fine. Then anywhere from 1minute to 10minutes or whatever in, I will get various different "Problems downloading"... sometimes, just clicking on try again will restart, but usually not. Sometimes killing and restarting the app will resume, but then inevitably pause again. sometimes going through the "Setup Streaming" will fix it temporarily, but again, will almost always fail again. Pretty much I can never download a show, even at basic or medium quality, even just a 30 minute sitcom, without a failure.

Streaming in home will usually work, at least until I push fast forward/30 second skip too many times, then it just crashes and often won't restart the stream. OOH streaming hardly ever works.

I have 2 different iPads - latest iPad Air2 seems to work best, but not at all well. I think once in past couple of years have I ever been able to transfer a show all at once. Also have 2 iPhones (SE and 6s) - neither work. All have latest updates of App and iOS installed

TiVo I have tried connected wired to my router (which is what it usually is) as well as WiFi. Rebooting either TiVo and/or phones/iPads makes no difference.

I do have a TiVo Mini that streams flawlessly from the TiVo Roamio. I can stream NetFlix, Hulu, etc. at highest quality flawlessly. LogMeIn I can access external to my LAN flawlessly. It is 100% TiVo Roamio/app combination that gives me these problems. I have loved TiVo for so long and was sold on the Roamio for these streaming/download capabilities and every trip I take to try to take a show on the plane or watch it remotely just makes me scream in frustration.

Any thoughts? Any router settings I should be looking at? (I should note I have <6 month old new router - behaves same on this NetGear as it did on previous Linksys)...

Thanks!!

HDMI output of Bolt into A/V receiver

I'm using Time Warner Cable. Can I route the output of my bolt into my a/v receiver and have that output to my tv?

Does that work? or are there any compatibility or encryption issues with that?

Use any external esata drive with bolt esata port

Has anyone figured out a way to use whatever external drive we want with the external esata port? (rather than just the ones tivo allows)

If not, is anyone working on this? Or is it thought to be impossible?

Thanks.

Bolt - one internal sata port or two?

I understand I can replace the existing HD in the bolt to increase capacity. I also know there is the esata port on the back that can be used additionally to the internal HD with an "approved" external HD.

My question is "Is there a second empty sata port inside?" If so, could I keep the original drive and add a second one using the internal sata port, understanding that I would have to route the cable out of the box to the drive since there is no room inside?

Thanks.

Can't get MoCa setup

I was previously running an Apple airport express near my Tivo Roamio providing the ethernet port needed. I then used the Tivo to create the MoCa connection to my Minis.

I switched my router to a Nighthawk and bought a ECB6200 MoCa 2.0 adapter.

I attempted to connect this in my basement but I can't seem get the Tivos to find internet connection.

Line In > Splitter > ECB6200 > Tivo
-------------------- > Other Mini
-------------------- > Other Mini
-------------------- > Other Mini

Do I need to select a specific Moca channel / encryption key?

None of the Minis seem to find connection either, although they may be looking for the main box which is not finding it.

Any clues?

Descriptive Video Service

All of a sudden I am getting Descriptive Video Service from PBS on Channel 13 in New Jersey. I contacted Charter Cable and they said its my Tivo, and there is nothing they can do about it. I have tried turning alternative audio setting off and on, no change.

Rovi guide data issues

There are serious issues with the data being sent to the TiVo with the guide changeover.

-Original air dates are often incorrect or missing.

-New or Repeat flag is often incorrect (or missing). One of the big TiVo benefits is that the user didn't have to deal with that. Now, based on many posts, users have to spend hours weeding out the duplicates and trying to figure out if everything we wanted actually recorded in addition to all the things we didn't want recording.

The above two items are what has made a TiVo a TiVo for more than a decade, and while there used to be very occasional glitches with them, now they are largely broken. Having tech support say we need to recreate SPs is meaningless when the box currently can't differentiate between new and rerun, which used to be a really big part of the TiVo experience - being able to rely on the device to do the correct thing.

A less serious but increasingly annoying issue is that the breathless prose describing movies, where we are subjected to someone's unsolicited opinion on the content, is pushing actual descriptions not just off the box, but making most of the actual description invisible, even if you hit 'info' on the guide (which brings up the more verbose descriptions). At first, the chatty descriptions were kind of amusing, but that phase has passed for me - now it's just annoying not being able to see actual descriptions.

And who on earth thought it was a good idea to pad descriptions further by listing the actors in the description, followed by a list of the same actors in blue type? What is the point of that?

It's likely much of this may be cleaned up (or may be left as is because it's the 'Rovi culture'). I've been a TiVo customer and cheerleader for more than a decade, but there comes a point where loyalty is overridden by frustration.

I'll just mention additionally that as part of the 'transition' they just killed Desktop Plus by refusing to allow it to link to my online account, which in turn stops the Desktop server from launching, rendering all of it useless. And yes, I know pytivo is an alternative for now. Until they decide to kill its functionality:

"the PC transfer is no longer a supported feature on our platform." --TiVo's Ira Bahr 12 days ago

"We've decided to kill a feature that's been a TiVo mainstay for many years with absolutely no warning to our customers" does not bode well for the future.

TiVo added 239,000 cable subs in Q2

The last two points are the most informative for us I would think.

http://ift.tt/2bH2zmq
Quote:

TiVo added 239,000 cable subs in second quarter

TiVo continued to aggressively grow its MSO base in the second quarter, even as its retail business shrunk, adding 239,000 cable subscribers during the period. The data comes courtesy of an SEC 10-Q filing, originally dug up by Multichannel News and tied to TiVo’s advanced merger process with Rovi Corp. The filing covers the fiscal-2017 quarter ended July 31.

With the additions, TiVo now serves 6.68 million MSO subs. It lost 3,000 retail subscribers during the second quarter, bringing its base down to 971,000 in that sector. TiVo now serves a total of 7.4 million subscribers.

“The MSO subscriptions lines refer to subscriptions sold to end-users by MSOs such as Cogeco, Com Hem, Mediacom, Vodafone Spain (ONO), RCN, Suddenlink, and Virgin, among others, and for which TiVo expects to incur little or no acquisition costs,” TiVo said in its filing.

TiVo said it added roughly 1.3 million MSO subs in the 12-month period from July 31, 2015. TiVo posted a 9.8 percent decline year-over-year in revenue at $107.66 million, but net income was up 59.2 percent to $13.38 million. TiVo attributes this financial dynamic to its transition from hardware manufacturing to service and software orientation.

Rovi has said that it expects its $1.1 billion acquisition of TiVo to close Sept. 7.

Guide Data Update: KUID recordings

As some of you have discovered, if you have a subset of your OnePass recordings marked "Keep Until I Delete" at the point your Guide Data is transitioned, then those recordings start counting toward the total recordings that are kept for your OnePass. (Prior to the transition, they were considered outside of the OnePass limit.)

If the number of recordings that you set as "Keep Until I Delete" meet or exceed your "Keep At Most" number of episodes, then it has the unintended consequence of not keeping any NEW recordings that are made. (They end up going directly to recently deleted folder.)

IF YOU HAVE NOT YET HAD YOUR GUIDE DATA TRANSITIONED then you can take the following step to avoid this problem:
- Manually change every KUID recording to "Keep Until Space Needed" and then immediately set it back to "Keep Until I Delete" (sorry, I know this is a pain). It will no longer count as part of the OnePass.

You may also want to temporarily turn of "Auto Record TiVo Suggestions". This will allow shows in your Recently Deleted folder to stick around longer, so you can verify that nothing ends up there unexpectedly.

IF YOU HAVE HAD YOUR GUIDE DATA TRANSITIONED you can still use the KUID > KUSN > KUID trick above to get them out of the OnePass limit.

I apologize for this inconvenience.

Roamio OTA signal strength readings-are they accurate?

I've been OTA (with a Tivo Roamio) since January when I ditched Comcast. Have had periodic issues (when the weather is bad) with pixellation and audio dropouts which I attribute in part to the trees between me and the towers and also due to the 45 year old twinlead from my antenna. Since I can do nothing about the trees, I decided to replace the twinlead with RG6. (The antenna is chimney mounted about 25' above grade.)

With twinlead, only 3 of the 8 channels (not including sub-channels) I receive would reach the max steady state Tivo reading of 72. With RG6, all 8 read 72 with three starting out about 85 before settling back to 72 (which I understand is the AGC kicking in.) I attached the antenna cable directly to the TV input and got signal strength readings from 95-98 and SNRs from 30-32 from the TV diagnostics menu. I had not done this with the twinlead.

If the Tivo reading is accurate, signal strength has definitely improved due to the RG6. What is the collective wisdom here? Is the Tivo signal strength output accurate enough to confirm that the RG6 is giving me a stronger signal at the signal? I have not had any lousy weather to see if it's more immune to interference.

Last VCM Connection Dec 31?

I noticed the date for VCM connection on my S3 648250 has updated since Dec 31.
Appears tivo tries to connect every day but fails.

Anyone else noticed this?

SATA or eSATA

FOr you REAL techies, what connector type do I need to connect my eSATA HD to the Bolt's mother board? SATA cable or eSATA?

The poll I posted regarding the best/preferred method of upgrading a Bolt was met with unbridled unenthusiasm. i.e. 1 vote. So, without the aid of other opinions, I punted. I tried using parts of two different upgrade methods and now have a problem.

I used a Seagate 3TB (Barracuda) drive, the Rosewill drive enclosure and ordered the Sata right angle cable mentioned in the post with the Rosewill.

However, the right angle SATA cable (Startech SATA6RA1) will not plug into the Rosewill enclosure connector. That connector must be an eSATA connector.

So, the question is this: Since the drive shipped with a eSATA cable, when I disconnect the cable to the HD in the Bolt, what cable will I need to connect to the Bolt? SATA or eSATA, or does it matter on the Bolt's motherboard?

The photo shows the two types of connectors. The top is the SATA, the lower the eSATA.

Tranferring between Tivos, speeds?

Am curious what sort of speeds people get when transferring between Tivos. First of all my network, I use power line adapters and a 8 port network switch. All have gigabit ports. My internet also goes through these adapters/switch, my gateway is connected to one power line adapter, the other is in the room with the network switch and Tivos. Now here are the speeds I get.

Bolt to Roamio Plus and visa versa, both have gigabit ports I know. Around 200 MbS.

Bolt to Roamio Basic and visa versa, around 90 MbS, Basic has 10/100 port, not gigabit.

Roamio Plus to Roamio Basic and visa versa, about 90 MbS, again probably the 10/100 port on the Basic being the limiting factor.

Series 3/HD (10/100 port) to Bolt and both Roamios, about 30MbS (appears the Series 3 is the limiting factor here)

Series 3 to Series 3 around 30 MbS.

Occasionally I've seen transfer speeds as low as 15MbS, can't remember which devices were involved.

I have temporarily disconnected my Series 2 which uses a wireless G adapter, will post results when I hook it back up if I remember :)

Computer, am not doing any to computer and back transfers until the Rovi issues are worked out. I seem to remember they could be as fast as 50MbS or as low as 15 MbS or so.

One question, I am not really great with networking, wired or wireless. Does my internet speed affect these wired/powerline/network switch transfers? I assume it would affect the Series 2 transfers since it uses the wireless adapter and the speed of the adapter also.

Thanks.

Mini connects with ethernet but not with MOCA

After trying many many times I was not successful to get my Mini to find my Roamio Plus using Moca. I connected the Mini to my router via power line and boom, it saw the Roamio on the first try.

Where can I look to see why my Moca is not working?

Thanks,

Cablecard Comcast questions

Would anyone here happen to know if comcast might (I know, could vary by region) charge an additional outlet fee for replacing a DTA box with a cablecard for my TiVo Premiere?

Situation is, recently moved, rooming with someone that already has a comcast subscription that includes a primary box for the living room, and this DTA box in this bedroom. Before I go asking if they might tweak their setup for me, I want to be sure I have some idea of what could happen (comcast, never can know for sure, seems like).

As far as I can tell from rules and regs, I think what might happen is, the primary box they have might already have the "first" cablecard on the account (will need to check, but if it means comcast can gouge you for extras, I would expect it there). So, small fee for another card for the TiVo probably. But, I'm hoping that by returning the DTA box that is presently hooked up, the Customer Provided Equipment credit could cover the card fee. Additionally, I'm thinking, since the DTA box is already hooked up to an additional outlet, that additional outlet fee would not change by hooking up to the cablecard/TiVo.

Basically wondering if anyone is familiar with this sort of equipment swap (swapping the DTA rather than the primary box) and whether there might still be additional charges for hooking up the TiVo. Figure, it it might save them a little money, or at the least be equivalent, can sort it out. But if it's going to cost them extra for the trouble, I don't really want to put that burden on them (even if I could cover the charge; just never know how far comcast might take it).

Tivo with Composite cable menu fuzzy then clear

I have a Tivo Roamio OTA hooked up via hdmi to my main tv with no problems. I also have a 3.5mm to composite (yellow, white, red) cable connected to the same Tivo to mirror the screen onto my kitchen 1080p tv. When I go into the menu on the kitchen tv everything is fuzzy for about 1/4 of a second and then becomes clear and stays clear. However, when I move around the menu, anything that is refreshed becomes fuzzy again for about 1/4 of a second and then also becomes clear until it is refreshed.

Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

Thanks

TiVo Bolt in Orange County CA (cox)

I know a few months ago TiVo and Cox were having major problems pairing cable cards with Bolts. Does anyone know if this issue has been resolved? When I was trying to pair a new cable card with my Roamio, I was told "if this was a bolt I would hang up" by the tech. I was sensing frustration. :D

I am thinking ahead to the Bolt + or whatever it will be called. I know no one knows if this new system has anything in common with the older Bolt so we can slip that discussion topic.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Prime Video Streaming Problems

I got this to work, just once. When I try to stream a video from Amazon Prime I get the audio, but no video. I've tried deregister and re-register and I can't seem to find the right combination.

I've tried rubbing my head and patting my belly while pushing the play button, but that didn't seem to help either.

Any suggestions?

Premiere stuck in guided setup - can't find valid zip code

I just picked up a used TiVo Premiere for use with an HDTV antenna.

I'm going through guided setup for the first time and it rejected my ZIP code (27511 - Cary, NC) because they didn't have an antenna channel lineup. I've tried 6 other ZIP codes so far, including three in Raleigh and every one of them stops me from continuing in guided setup and forces me to start over.

Is there some way I can see the list of "accepted" zip codes so I can choose one? Randomly poking in ZIP codes hoping for a match doesn't really seem like an efficient way to do this.

Grimm canceled by NBC

Grimm canceled by NBC after upcoming final season. The final season will have 13 episodes.

Hopefully the writers knew and wrote out an ending. :(
http://ift.tt/2bVz2aQ

Other than Blindspot, which is on the edge of losing it's season pass on my Tivo, I think it's the last show I watch on NBC proper. Guess NBC is losing me as a viewer.

/edit
Looks like they're reacquiring me with The Good Place. :/

pytivo issues since the recent "upgrade"

Has anyone else noticed issues since the most recent update to allow for the new program data source?

Specifically, I have a folder on my PC filled with mp4 files along with metadata I've generated for them using MetaGenerator. I added a Series ID# (MetaGenerator did not provide one so I created a new one) to it so it would group them together into a folder. That has always worked without a problem. Now, suddenly, it isn't grouping them when I pull them from the PC to the Tivo. When I push them from the PC they are grouped but, of course, push only sends a subset of the metadata.

Is there another program I should be using to generate the metadata? One that is more friendly with whatever new format the Tivo needs now that it is getting its data from Rovi?

Glitch with channel banner popping up at random time

Has anyone noticed once in a while the channel banner pops up? I was sitting here watching the US Open on live TV and out of the blue the channel banner popped up. Not recording anything and remote no where near my hands. Its happened a couple of times on my Roamio Plus.

No Signal on new Samsung 4k

Hi everyone, I'm a new TiVo Bolt owner. I just upgraded my television to the Samsung UN55KS8000 and can't get anything from the TiVo to it.

Here's what I've tried so far:

-Reset/Wiped the TiVo.
-Used TiVo supplied hdmi cable and certified 4K hdmi cable.
-Tried all inputs on the Samsung
-Tried auto resolution and set resolution on TiVo settings.
-Plugging and unplugging hdmi while TiVo is on.
-Confirmed that all other hdmi devices I have work fine. (PS4, HTPC, etc.)

TiVo works instantly when I plug it back into my 24" 1080p tv. I know others have had intermittent issues with hdmi on 4K televisions but I can get anything at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

General comment for CBS 2016 Fall schedule on Sundays

I am one of the few who only subs to locals and only has 2 tuners, so this might not apply to the majority of you.

Sunday evenings can be a MESS during football season. PAD PAD PAD your sunday recordings to account for football overruns.

For us it's easy this year as there are 3 shows we watch on CBS sunday that are in succession from 8-11...NCIS: LA, Madame Secretary, Elementary. For us this means we can just pad elementary accordingly to be the overrun bucket for these 3 shows.

channel lineup updated and tivo automatically enabled a lot of channels I don't recv

So the other day we got a message that our cable provider removed/added some channels (it looks like they may have shifted a lot of them to new numbers?), and since then a *lot* of the channels we don't receive are now enabled.

I'm wondering if there is a quick way of enabling only the channels we receive through our cable card to fix the issue or if the manual method is the only way?

thanks!

Blank Remote Codes

Just activated a TiVo Roamio Pro, but two things were odd:

1) The local channel lineups were completely different (maybe updated?), and

2) (more troubling) The code screens for setting up the TiVo remote for TV power & volume (as well as those for TV input and A/V volume & power) were completely BLANK. (They usually have a list of numerous brands.)

Anyone's else run into this recent development?

Cablevision decided to stop HD on Cablecard in Westchester NY

I hope I am wrong, but does anyone else have this problem? Multiple visits from Optimum service techs, and multiple phone calls to cablevision and nobody knows the answer.

For 15 years I enjoyed Tivo, I currently have an XL4 and was planning to purchase the Bolt. Then last week I switched my phone service from Verizon to Optimum.
Thereafter, I stopped receiving most channels above 700. In my area, 02, 04, 07 etc were low definition and 702, 704,707 etc were HD.

Cablevision told me that recently they did away with the "700" channels in their line up because the new cable boxes show HD on the lower channels now (02,04,07) and there is no need for the 700 channels.
Cablevisions own website, however still lists the "700" channels for cablecard users (ME)

I had two techs from cable in my house for a total of 3 hours over the last 2 days. Signals are fine, however, I get code 53 on most 700 channel. There is just NO SIGNAL from cablevision on those channels.

I searched and searched figuring I would not be the only person with this problem but have found nobody else out there with this problem. I hope its a TiVo issue but I don't think it is.

anyone else? what next besides "write to congress"

Guide Data Update: Movies genre issue

For the issue related to some movies not appearing in the My Shows Movies view, the Movies filter in the Guide, or WishList matches for movies, I currently expect a fix to be deployed by the end of this week. If that changes, I'll post an update here.

TivoHD Model TCD652160 w/ Lifetime $150

Made in December 2009. Fully functional when I disconnected it about a year ago. With remote but no other accessories/cables. (If you need any of the original accessories/cables, I'll see what I have to throw in.)

I'll pay shipping in original box.

Love my Tivo - Hate Xfinity

So here is my dilemma.

I love TIVO (have for over 10 years) for the fact I can schedule a season pass and it tells me what shows I have not watched. This is primarily for Network TV.

I hate Xfinity

As I look at streaming services, I would have to do two things. One is remember to watch a series and two, remember which episodes to watch.

I currently have a 4 year old TiVo Premiere XL4 with Lifetime.

Is there a way to drop Xfinity and just pick to streaming services to use with the recording option of season passes I have today?

Thanks

Fear the Walking Dead - "Los Muertos" - S02E09 - 8/28/16 *spoilers*

Who could have guessed that the characters would exhibit more stupidity?

So much ridiculousness in this episode. Are we to believe that all the walkers in that shop opposite the bar saw the group walk into the bar but didn't make any effort to pursue them until they started hearing the sounds of the piano and breaking glass? Based on what we've seen in TWD universe, that makes no sense. Why weren't all the walkers in that fenced in area (with the bus gate) swarming the fenceline like when Rick & Co. were at the prison? What made it suddenly start raining walkers off the hotel balconies? Was that happening the whole time and our group just didn't notice it before? Or were they all drawn to the sound of the piano?

Where did Ofelia go? She was talking like there was no point in trying to continue to survive. But if she jumped off the balcony, wouldn't Alicia have seen her body on the ground?

Nick's story didn't bother me as much this time, but those people he's hooked up with are nuts.

The Night Of - "Call of the Wild" (Finale) - S01E08 - 8/28/16 *spoilers*

OK, I guess I'll start. I'm still not sure what to think of the finale. I guess I'm glad Naz is free, but the way it happened was kind of unsatisfying. And a hung jury won't have the same effects for him as if he had been found Not Guilty, so there will always be people assuming he did it and got off on a technicality. I think that was reflected in the way all the people in the restaurant were looking at him.

It's also tragic that a few months in Rikers and Naz has basically become the criminal that he was wrongly accused of being. Drug addict, drug smuggler, accessory to murder, neck tattoo, etc. His life will be forever altered because of that night.

I thought Turturro was fantastic as Stone throughout the whole show, but especially in this finale. His closing argument was very effective, made all the more so by how pathetic he looked with his blotchy skin and gloves.

It's too bad they decided to publicize Chandra's unprofessional conduct. It didn't end up making any difference in the trial*, but it likely ruined her career.

*It made a difference in that it forced Stone to give the closing arguments, which may be part of the reason the jury ended up deadlocked, but that's not a given. They may have been deadlocked anyway based on the evidence or Chandra could have been just as effective during her closing.

I was glad to see Box was dedicated enough, and bothered enough by the circumstances, to keep pursuing the case. There should have been more than enough evidence to convict Naz, and it would have been perfectly understandable for a detective not to pursue anyone else in that situation. But it never sat right with him and I was glad to see that he basically figured it out and it put enough doubt in Helen Weiss' mind that she declined to re-try Naz.

It's a little unbelievable that the step-dad would have such an obvious motive and file to receive her trust the very first possible second that he could, just 48 hours after Andrea's death. I'm a little perturbed that turned out to be a red herring. It would have been more satisfying if we found out that he and the financial manager were somehow in on it together.

What did ya'll think?

MoCA adapter deals...

Bit of a price drop on Amazon, today, on MoCA 2.0 adapters. MoCA 2.0 adapters are currently below the MoCA 1.1 adapter prices.

Marking-up a post from a few days ago that included prices at the time, I've added, in parentheses, CamelCamelCamel.com links for each product and the current Amazon price for each -- with the major discounts highlighted in red.

Non-New shows added to To Do List..... constantly

So, I assume this has to do with guide data? However if there is NOT a "New" next to a show and I have it set to "New only" then the software knows it shouldn't be there, yet it adds it anyway. Rarely does one record, but it's annoying to scroll through multiple repeats of shows that aren't even airing new episodes currently, like South Park:

Anyone else have this happen? Also happens a ton with Robot Chicken.

TiVo remote control of receiver

I just bought a Yamaha HTR-3069 receiver. I have the HDMI out of the TiVo connected to the HDMI 2 in of the receiver. HDMI out of the receiver attached to one of the HDMI inputs of the Samsung TV. I had already programmed the remote to turn the TV off and on. So I programmed the remote by holding down the TiVo button and the power button and entering Yamaha codes to turn the receiver off and on with the TV.

This setup does not work consistently. Sometimes it works fine. Other times the receiver will not turn off with the TV. I've tried rebooting the TiVo and making sure I was not effecting the line of sight to the receiver when I turned the TV off. I've also tried several different Yamaha codes. It does seem to possibly be tuner related. I think as long as I stay on the same tuner, it works. If I change tuners for whatever reason, it has the possibility of failing.

Any suggestions?

Imgur site overhaul

Yes, I am completely dumb.
I used to be able to upload an image to Imgur, copy the code to embed an image, paste it into a post here, and...bingo.
Just saw that Imgur changed their site and that feature is no longer there. At least I do not see it.
Anyone care to lend me a helping hand?
Thank you very much.

/found it - you have to be inside your albums. It used to be it was on the front page, appearing right after your upload.

Big Brother S18 - OAD 8/28/2016 (Sunday)

Has Nicole ever won an HoH before? It seems odd to see her "in power".

Wow...Victor is killing it! Crazy that he gets evicted twice, and comes back twice!!!

Mountain Men (Season 5 I guess)

How many people think that this year, Marty is doing a commercial for the snow mobile manufacturer? I did not check the credits but they should have announced "sponsored by XXXX Snowmobile manufacturing."

With the exception of his falling down, IMHO, everything Eustace does is created for this show.

Jason is a nice addition, would be nice to see a lot more of his wife.

Enjoy Morgan's story as well.

Would love the producers to cut down on the manufactured drama and just let us see these guy's lifes. Also, an episode with behind the scenes footage would be nice.

Tivo network adapter burning or what?

I have a rack with four TiVo Series2 boxes. They are really old, two of them are like 11 years old, the other two are about 8 years old. I've just seen that looks like a sign of burn, or a short circuit, or I don't know what. It seems that the network adapters are melting, three of them. Maybe it's a high temperature? Am I at risk? Please help!

Amazon App: Closed captions always come back

Hi I have a Roamio OTA and often stream content from Netflix / Amazon.

For some time now whenever a play a title from amazon the closed captions default to ON. I can easily disable them, but each time a new title starts they're back on again.

This only happens in the Amazon app, and only on my TiVo device. I also utilize amazon video via phone, another smart TV, and computer. None of them have the same issue.

Anyone encountered this? Is there a way to clear configuration of the amazon app, or something else that might help?

Thanks!

Suddenly unable to push videos to my tivo with pytivo

I'm not sure when this started, but suddenly I am unable to push videos to my tivos via pytivo. Also since it uses pytivo, my my pytivo-video-manager HME app no longer works.

I tried updating to the latest pytivo, but it did not help.

Here is what I see in the pytivo log file:

Survivor's Remorse (STARZ) 8/28 listing error

In place of an episode of Survivor's Remorse tonight, 8/28, I'm seeing it listed as a show called "The Guests", which is the name of the episode being shown tonight. You'll have to do a manual recording. I think this went bad once the Rovi data switchover happened.

Total Tivo newbie here...

I just received a 1TB Bolt and set it up yesterday... The OTA antenna that I had hooked up to my tv to try it out worked great. Now that it's hooked up to the Bolt I am getting a lot of pixelation and sound cut-off. I have a Mohu Leaf Antenna. I am not able to do an outdoor antenna or indoor attic antenna... Any suggestions?
I also am totally lost as to the ins and outs of this whole Tivo thing. I was on DishTV and was a pro at juggling the priority of shows on my record list so I was very satisfied with 2 tuners... I am totally lost with this Tivo... I am not finding it very intuitive (probably just me). I don't know how to schedule recordings... I was under the impression that I could just search for a show and Tivo would find it on any app or OTA station and record it... Now I have learned that Tivo only records OTA stations? I am confused... I bought a 1 TB Bolt and a 1 TB Western Digital tivo expander. What is everyone doing with all that space if all that can be recorded comes from the few OTA channels available?
I called Tivo 4 different times (for my own satisfaction) to ask the question if the Bolt I was buying would eventually support HDR. 4 different Tivo employees said that they had never heard of HDR!!! Did I make a HUGE mistake buying this Bolt now?
I guess my most important problem is the bad OTA reception - I left Dish because they lost channels 3 and 27 for the whole Summer, so far... I cut the cord and switched the antenna from the tv to the Bolt... What should I do?
Thanks for your time!!!

Resume Recording After Power Outage?

Hi. I've noticed that if there's a power failure while it's recording, my Roamio Pro doesn't resume the recording process when the power returns. But if it re-boots without a power failure, the recordings do resume.

Wondering if anyone else seen this. The only solution i can think of would be to connect the Tivo to a backup battery.

Can log into account but not Tivo Online?

Anyone else? I can login fine to "My Account" on Tivo.com but when I try to use the OnePass Manager, it presents me with a login screen again, and when I use the same credentials, it gives me an Incorrect Name/Password error...

Streaming on tablet not working

Just got a new tablet and I tried to stream from my Tivo Premier 4. Tablet Tivo app can find the dvr just fine. I can navigate MyShows and Guide just fine. I can even schedule a recording. But I can't watch anything. The Watch Now button just gets an error saying can't stream on this device (109,-1). It's a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.

I read through the streaming requirements on Tivo and the only thing that might apply is that it says the Tivo and the Tablet have to be on the same network. The Tivo is on Moca. The Tablet is WiFi. At the Comcast level it's the same "network" but maybe that's not what is meant??? But I read that other people stream with Moca connections. How so?

Performed Rovi Update>Xfinity On Demand App Gone from Roamio but Still on Mini

Hello,

I have a Roamio Pro connected to one Mini on Comcast/Xfinity. Prior to receiving the Rovi update, both worked perfectly. I had access to all my channels, including my subscribed premium movie channels and Xfinity On Demand :)

Then I received the Rovi update this past Friday (8/26). Everything's finally back to normal except for one annoying problem :(

Xfinity On Demand is completely gone from my Roamio Pro. It's not listed:
 • in the "My Video Providers" menu (Settings>Channels>My Video Providers),
 • in Tivo Central (Find TV, Movies, & Videos), or
 • as an option to view an episode of a show or a movie if I explore a show.
It's like the Roamio Pro doesn't even know Xfinity On Demand exists.

Then it gets strange. For some reason, I can still access Xfinity On Demand on the Mini connected to the Roamio Pro. It works perfectly, so I can't believe this is Comcast's fault. (And it was working fine on the Roamio Pro the day before I received the Rovi update, so...yeah...)

I already found the Tivo Support website named "XFINITY On Demand: App is not listed or will not launch" and tried everything except for contacting Tivo Support. I was hoping for an easier solution as I hate working with low level, script-based tech support personnel.

Thanks for any assistance!

Mini tuner option

I have a Roamio Plus and a Mini. When watching TV on the Mini, I would like to have the option of picking which tuner of the six on the Roamio I would like to watch. I would like this mainly for the 30 minute buffer feature.

Tech NBC Built to stream the Olympics - can it replace TV

http://ift.tt/2bK8h5X

This was a pretty interesting article about the technology and strategy NBC used to stream Olympics coverage over the web. I thought it was interesting how they discussed online viewership going up and that Linear TV was down.

Reading it I thought they would conclude with some assessment as how this was the service of the future, but I was surprised by the last quote:

Quote:

Rayburn doesn’t think over-the-top (OTT) video will ever be the primary source of video content for the Olympics. "No, the numbers will never work," he said firmly. "How many subscribers do you have to sign up online just to make that up, a la carte? No matter how you run the numbers, it doesn’t work."
I have maintained for a while that OTT is a great source system for Movies, like Netflix or unique content like Adam Savage on YouTube. But the scale is t their for linear programming.

It "seems" as Mr. Rayburn has made a similar assessment.

What do you guys think?

TiVo Roamio and Premiere with Charter cable, tuning adapter

A couple of years ago, we tried to switch to Charter cable in our area from WOW because Charter had better internet speeds and some incredible pricing deals. It was a mess. They made 4 visits and countless phone calls and never could get the tuning adapters (they tried multiple TAs and CableCards over the course of several days) to work properly. They even talked to TiVo on the phone and couldn't get it working. If the TA was plugging in and on, we got some channels but not others. If we unplugged it, a different set of channels were viewable but not most of the ones before. We ended up going back to WOW as they don't use SDV and everything with the TiVo works fine.

I was wondering if anyone here could give me a 'no fail' guide on how to get a provider (especially Charter) with the tuning adapter and switched digital video to work right with the TiVo so all channels work and are viewable that comes with the package. How did you overcome this? Exactly what needs to be told to the technician and people on the phone? What is the common snag that happens with these?

I'd really like to jump on their latest offer. It would save me hundreds over the 3-year price lock-in, plus WOW has been unable to solve a problem where our internet drops out for a few minutes multiple times a day.

Thanks in advance!

Help Premier wont boot

I backed up my Tivo Series 3 lifetime with DvrBARS and restored to a new 1tb hard drive and everything is working ok. So I decided to backup my Premier lifetime with DvrBARS and when I put the drive back in, it gets the welcome screen starting up, then after 30 sec the screen goes blank and another 30 sec all the leds blink and it starts over. The only other 320gb hard drive I had to try was a laptop 320gb so I restored the image to that drive and I get the same thing. I also restored the image to a 1tb drive without expanding it and get the same thing.

Any ideas what could have happened? Where do I go from here?

Maybe DvrBARS did something to the drive I used the full backup mode.
Should I look for a new image and start over with a new hard drive? or do you think its the box? The drive is spinning, so its not the power supply.

Available Space Error

So it would appear that after the upgrade the TiVo is dramatically overestimating the size of files I have transferred over from my PC. As an example, a 30 minute MP4 file which is 500MB on my computer is showing as 3.23GB on the TiVo. Because of this I have gone from 49% full to 71% in an instant.

My question is basically whether or not this matters. Does the TiVo delete programs based upon its estimate of how full it is or based on when there actually is no space available for a new recording?

Either way, it would be nice if this were corrected.

Unable to open/edit downloaded programs

I have a Series 2 DVR hooked up to our house network via wire.

I had been downloading saved sewing and other craft shows, trimming commercials, and moving to a portable hard drive hooked up to a ROKU on the TV my wife watches.

Six months ago, I started being unable to do anything with the downloaded shows. We can still watch them on the Tivo, but once I download them, the recordings give a "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file" error when I click the listing in Tivo desktop (version 2.7).

VideoReDo (Suite 4, version 4.21) gives me a similar error and tells me to check my MAK. I have and it's correct.

When I "pick recordings to transfer" in Tivo Desktop, it says there are no DVRs on my network. However, I can download using my browser and the IP address. If I download using my browser or kmttg and then copy the file/program to the Tivo Desktop directory, I get a "Windows Media Player encountered..." error when I try to watch.

Any recommendations? Please tell me it's something "easy."

Thanks,
John

Long overdue upgrade

Short version: Will 1 Bolt and 1 mini give us the roughly the same functionality we currently have with 2 older HD Tivos?

We have two older Tivos. One is a S3 HD and one is an older HD. Both units have lifetime subs. One has my wife's shows and one is mine - this may be a factor. I'm thinking of upgrading to a single Bolt 1 TB plus 2-3 minis. Our current Tivos would great but we have two TVs (backyard and garage) where it would be nice to have a mini.

I think I can purchase a single 1 TB Bolt with lifetime to replace one of our Tivos and then replace the other Tivo with a mini. But this means my wife and I would be sharing a single Tivo for content and recording. I think this would probably be ok but I would be interested if anyone had any thoughts on this.

Then I would add 1-2 additional mini units for the garage (to watch on the bike trainer) and backyard. This will work fine, right? We could watch content on the Bolt from 2 or more units simultaneously?

To offset the cost of the Bolt + lifetime I would sell both of our current HD units with their lifetime subs (as I do not believe lifetime subs can be transferred). That's still legal according to Tivo, right?

Xfinity On Demand no longer working after update. (Error SRM-901F)

I can no longer access anything from Xfinity On Demand after the recent Tivo update. Issue is affecting both my Roamio Pro and Premiere XL.

I subscribe to both HBO & Starz, while I am able to view the live channels fine, when I attempt to watch something On Demand it shows that I am not subscribed and tells me to call the Comcast 800 number.

For other programs where it says "Rent & Watch Now (Free with Subscription)".
When I select the title, it then asks to confirm by hitting the Thumbs up. After doing so I get the following error.

" A subscription for this channel is required to view this
program. For ordering info please call 1-800-XFINITY
(1-800-934-6489) or visit Comcast.com/help. We apologize for any inconvenience. (Error SRM-901F) The locale code is
(ticocrd-cmc-a4p.comcast.com)."

I contacted Comcast support but they could not do anything and escalated my issue. They said someone would be calling me within the next 24 hours.

Anyone else having this issue and has anyone found a solution yet?

Cautionary tail - Ebay - Weaknees - Used Hard Drive

My Series 3 original 250GB hard drive failed and I was feeling lazy so check to see what one would cost from WeaKnees. The prices on their site were more than I wanted to spend so I decided to see what was on ebay. Found that Weaknees was selling used replacement drives for what I thought was an acceptable price. They had a 1TB for $89.99 shipped I thought it was likely fairly new and pulled from a Roamio they sold with upgraded drives, so I took a chance.

I ordered the drive on 8/24 late day and is shipped on 8/25 and was here today 8/27 (came from CA and I am in rural western NY). So great service from Weaknees. However the drive was actually a 1.5 TB drive that had been manufactured in 2009.

Not sure where they pulled that from but I wouldn't have taken the chance on a 1.5TB as I would have assumed it was fairly old. The drive does have a 6 month warranty so I guess WeaKnees believes it is still good but 7 years is older than I would have thought reasonable to be reselling, guess I will find out.

Again nothing bad about WeaKnees, they were clearly selling a used drive and got it to me fast.

Tivo Bolt + Moca + PS4 Question

Here is what I am trying to figure out.

Can I setup a Moca Network which connects Tivo Bolt directly to the internet via the Coax and then use the Ethernet port from my Bolt to my PS4 so the PS4 gets a hard wired connection as well.

So I assume the setup will go like this.

Cable Outlet In
to
Moca Adapter
to
Cable Modem
to
Wireless Router

then downstairs

Tivo is already hooked up to cable via tuning adapter. W
from Tivo use ethernet to go from Bolt to PS4.

This seems to simple to actually work, but curious if anyone knows for sure.

Thanks.

Downloading just a portion of a show?

Is there a method to download perhaps just a time range of a show? Some method to download just one scene by specifying a start and end time, without pulling down an entire 2 hour show?

Outside home network to computer?

Is there a way to download Tivo shows to your laptop when you are traveling away from your home network?

Both my tivo units ran out of guide data today?

Both units had a message today that they ran out of guide data. I manually connected to the mothership and all seems well again. Is this part of the Rovi guide data switch-over or do I have a separate issue?

Thanks

Saving One Pass Settings

Is there any way to save the One Pass settings?

I had an issue a couple months ago where I was forced to start over on my Bolt. I lost all my recordings and of course my One Pass selections.

I checked online hoping that the settings were still there and of course the online just mimics what is going on currently with the Bolt.

It would be wonderful if TiVo would allow the ability to back up the selections and settings for the One Pass. This would allow you to reload the settings on a new Bolt when something like what happened to me occurs.

Trying to remember all the passes and their settings is just not realistic. Of course one could write it all down, but how many of us actually do that? Even after my issue I haven't done it and probably won't. My own worst enemy.

XL4 20.6.1a.RC10-01-2-758 Problems

I got the 20.6.1a.RC10-01-2-758 update earlier tonight and noticed a couple of problems.

1. I regularly pull shows off of the TiVo using kmttg and convert them to mp4 for space before pulling them back. These files are about 1.3 Gb per hour. After the update, they are being reported as taking up 5 to 6Gb per hour. As a result, my TiVo that was sitting at about 19% full before the update now reads 42% full. I haven't tried transferring something fresh and seeing if it gets read correctly.

2. I can no longer use the latest Android app (version 3) to connect to the box. It forced me to downgrade to version 2. Version 2 is terrible.

So far, not impressed.

Add wifi network expander to TiVo Moca network?

I currently have a few Minis that are on my network via Moca. I have a wifi dead spot in my house that I want to plug. I was thinking of adding an Actiontec WCB3000N wifi network expander that uses Moca.

Do you think the Moca network can handle both the TiVo video and the additional network data I plan on? Most likely it would only be basic web browsing. I have the Actiontec ECB2500C which is Moca 1.1 and is supposed to deliver 270 Mbps.

TIVO XL - Hulu plays occasionally

I have three tivo's and hulu plays well on roamio or tivo premiere 4 but is sporadic on tivo HD XL dvr. Sometimes works, sometimes refuses. Machine too old?

TiVo Uncompressed ?

The Picture Quality of TiVo BOLT is amazing I've wanted to know is TIVO Uncompressed vs Compressed like with a Cable Box I just don't see any pixelation or artifacts if you will like I do with a regular Cable Box.

Is there a way to copy shows from Tivo to a Mac laptop?

I'm referring to doing it when you're away from home. I know how to transfer at home.

Channel guide slow after recent update

After the 20.6.1a update was applied (the one with the new Rovi guide data), the TiVo Live Guide view has become unusably slow. However, the Grid Guide seems to be snappy enough.

This problem has not occurred on my (also recently updated) Roamio Pro.

Flakey Tivo Roamio remote

I bought another Roamio remote. Initially it seemed to work fine. But after a couple of weeks it started acting flakey.

What happens is that *sometimes* it ignores (or doesn't receive) some of my button presses. Because of the sporadic nature it seems to be more likely to be interference or something intermittent in the transmitter than a physical problem with the buttons.

I know I shouldn't have to point it at the tivo for it to work, but I usually do out of habit, and because I still have to point it for the IR to the TV for volume, etc. What is very odd to me is that when it starts failing I can usually get it to work simply by rotating it along the long axis so it vertical while still pointing toward the tivo.

I have done limited testing of moving it to other orientations (like vertical), and I think that may also help.

That perhaps indicates a loose connection inside?

Are there any known problems of this sort?

Backed up Series 3, new drive stuck

I backed up my series 3 with DvrBARS. I first tried the truncated mode, then the quick. When I restored to the new WD drive It got stuck in the 2nd screen while booting, The first one I did the truncated and the truncate restore, the 2nd I did the quick and did a full restore.

Both drives are 1tb, the original did not have anything on it except some season passes. The restore drive was a used WD so I used a partition software to delete the partition.

Now Im trying a full backup and full restore.

Any ideas why it doesn't work? Am I doing something wrong?

TiVo Series 3 HD 20hr with Lifetime - Dead tuners

What's this thing worth? Anyone interested in buying it?

After several years of trustworthy service, my 20-hour Series 3 HD TiVo started making a very high pitched whistling sound (definitely not the hard drive). Programs then started getting very pixelated. I thought it was Verizon FiOS going bad, but they sent a replacement M-Card, which didn't help, they then came and replaced the fiber—everything pointed to something wrong with the TiVo.

My suspicion is that the tuner is dead. Tuners? Either way. No channels have a signal anymore.

It has lifetime service which was already transferred once, so they wouldn't let me move it to a Bolt.

I'd consider using it much like a TiVo Mini, but it seems like overkill. I'd much rather just trade it for a TiVo Mini, or sell it.

TiVo Program Guide Data Upgrade

TiVo is upgrading the guide data associated with all the shows and movies on our DVRs so that we can provide more accurate program information to our subscribers. This upgrade should take only a few hours, and will mostly happen during the late night or early morning to minimize the impact to our customers. TiVo does not expect many users to have any issues but it is possible that you may not have full functionality during this time. You will be able to play recordings, watch live TV, and use streaming applications (e.g., Netflix, Hulu). When the changes are complete, you will get back the full TiVo experience you've come to expect!

If you have any feedback or need any assistance please reply to this thread and we will respond as quickly as possible. We also recommend visiting our support article that may answer your questions by clicking here http://ift.tt/2ceWNwa.

Potential Cord Cutter looking at Bolt - Questions

I have owned Tivos on an off since 1999, I have a Directv setup currently, but most of the shows my family watches can be satisfied via Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and some of the streaming basic cable channels I get.

My question as I look into Bolt:

1. What is the current list of streaming providers the bolt supports? The list under "My Video Providers". I know the big ones are there, but I would love to get someone to provide a current list of all. I can't find it anywhere.

2. I have heard Amazon will be supporting 4k on the Tivo soon but these were older posts - is there supported now?

3. HDR support? Netflix, Amazon, Youtube all support HDR for 4k on other devices, where does this stand for the Bolt?

4. I would have OTA and streaming services. How does Tivo display the traditional Guide? Are streaming services somehow shown in Guide or are they only visible during the searching, onepass creation etc. I am thinking about older users that are used to the traditional grid view of "what's on now" and how the streaming channel integrate.

Any answers appreciated!

Bolt Pixelation with Good Cable Signal

Well, cable tv went down in price, so I when from OTA, back to cable. I noticed pixelation on multiple channels, so out comes the cable tech. After checking my cables, he said I had 36 out of 40 coming into my Bolt and other units. He recommended that the Bolt might be the problem. Has anyone else had this problem? What should I do?

TiVo Mini, Lost Connection

For over a year I have used the following setup without incident.

TiVo Roamio, TiVo Premier and a TiVo Mini with MoCA adapter.

Last weekend the Mini lost connection. I was able to get it back by resetting the Roamio (Host) but only for a few minutes. Now, no connection at all. Nothing in the house or setup has changed over the previous year.

Cable company came out and says bandwidth is strong. Yet, I paid to have it increased anyway.

TiVo support has been sorely lacking. Put me through the usual paces and the tech finally decided the Mini was defective but needed approval of the techs from the next level up. I waited overnight for a call back and was told the installation of a POE filter would fix everything but I discussed that very issue with the cable guy who said they do not use them on their equipment as they would serve no purpose.

The original TiVo tech's diagnosis was apparently nixed by the higher ups. In any event, still not able to use the bedroom TV due to C33 error from the Mini. Tech also added that there was a software update that, once installed, would fix the problem too but when queried about that the second day, it too was no longer in play.

Not sure what to do at this point. I have no confidence the POE filter will make any difference.

The C33 error prevents me from reaching TiVo Central on the Mini. I seem to be stuck.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

No Freaking Guide Data After Update That Was Not An Update

Just had to make a new thread for this...sorry.

Some people may not be smart enough to figure this out WHEN THEY WAKE UP TO NO GUIDE AND NO TO DO LIST. If you do not want to read below, just know that it seems you need to restart the box again and do another connection or maybe when it comes up from the update, just restart again and force a connection.

I woke up around 3ish AM today and was doing some work on the PC. Music went out all of a sudden. I looked at the TV and "another useless update" I said to myself.

When my Roamio Pro came back up there was a STUPID message saying a network connection must be forced. WHAT, THE IDIOT PROGRAMMERS COULD NOT HAVE PROGRAMMED THAT? New guide data was loading. Took a long time AND THEN NOTHING. Nothing in guide, NOTHING IN TO DO LIST except my few manual recordings.

CAN THESE PEOPLE DO ANYTHING RIGHT???. I unplugged and restarted and forced ANOTHER network connection and THEN IT LOADED THE GUIDE AGAIN. Thankfully it actually did load the second time.

I always said the "testers" were deaf, dumb and blind. Now ADD STUPID (ALWAYS WERE).

After all that, it is still the same 20.6.1a RC10 with NOTHING new (as the first RC10 was). This "UPDATE" must have been just to clear the guide data. Now it shows a DAILY show for this morning as NEW, but it is NOT. Several shows are repeating themselves in the To Do List due to NOT having the right designations (new, etc). Guess we have to check the To Do List like we USED to do way back when.

Most other things look OK, thankfully.

RIDICULOUS!!!!!

PS, YES I AM DRAMATIC, BUT PROGRAMMING TYPES ARE VERY PICKY...:D

No Guide Data

So woke up this morning to my roamio indicating it had exhausted its guide data. Last night it went a full 12 days. I just forced a network connection. It downloaded and loaded (long time). But still the same thing. The channel lineup is correct. It even told me about a channel change this morning.

Anybody else facing this issue this morning?

Can you use a Mini RF/IR remote to control Mini & Roamio?

I have a Roamio OTA in my main room and have a Mini version 2 coming today that I will have in the kitchen. Can I use 1 remote to send the same commands to both tivos at the same time? Preferably a RF signal to the mini and IR to the Roamio OTA.

I like to watch replays during sports and want to be able to have my secondary tv mirror the main.

Thanks for any help

Program deleted because space was needed?

My Tivo is near full. (98%) I set it to record a 1-hour HD program. I verified that it did so afterwards. I could see it in the list.

A couple hours later, I go to watch the program, and it's not there. History shows:

"Space Needed

This show was deleted because space was needed to record other shows on 8/25 at 8:37pm"

There's only one problem. I have nothing set to record automatically. No One Passes. No suggestions. Nothing was manually scheduled to record in the future.

And no one in this house tried to record anything else tonight. No one even touched it, apart from changing the channel to watch live TV.

The Tivo doesn't even specify what it claims it needed to record. And I know that if you do schedule something and then cancel it, it still shows up in history.

But there's NOTHING there.

Does Tivo really get this squirrelly when it's near full?

Or does this mean my hard drive is on its way out?

Frustrating...

Tivo Online: One Pass Manager can't choose other box

I have two Roamio's on my account. When I go to Tivo Online, for most of the functions, I can choose which box to operate on:

but when I go to the One Pass Manager, the box selection at the top goes away and there is another box selector below, but that selector only shows my first box and I can't choose the other one.

In every other mode (top selector), I can choose the second box just fine and the data displayed seems to be up to date.

Is this a bug in the Online website or is there something going wrong on my end?

Big Brother S18 - OAD 8/25/2016 (Thursday HoH/Returning Jury Member)

Wow did the girls give it to Paulie when he entered the jury house... It was a little difficult to watch to be honest...

Wouldn't it be great to see Victor return for a 3rd time! That would be quite hilarious... I am pulling for Bridget...I'd love to see her get another chance, and it would be interesting to see how she re-integrates into the house...

We kind of know how Paulie and Victor will re-integrate...

Tivo Roamio downloading shows to Ipad - disconnecting

Hello All,

Is anyone having problems downloading shows from their Roamio to an ipad? This used to work flawlessly for me - but now, it keeps disconnecting from wifi and I have to keep retrying over and over again.

Any ideas?

Netflix "previously on"?

How do you make Netflix show you a recap of the previous episode, or is this not even possible?

Problems with Bolt wireless setup

I'm one of the Series 1 refugees, and I received my new 1T Bolts today. I'm working through guided setup and hit a problem with the wireless config.

My router is a Linksys WRT54G2.

I've got my SSID and password correct. I know because one time I missed entering the password and got an error that it couldn't connect to the router.

The error I'm getting is various wordings on "there is a problem" and the code N07. One of the screens provided a link to tivo.com/help/N02 which has a lot of information (that didn't help, yet).

There's basically two paths for the IP address:

1 - Automatically from a DHCP server
 • Do you need to use a DHCP client ID on your network? NO
 • There is a problem with your network router. (NO7)
2 - Let me specify a static IP address (values pulled from "ipconfig /all" on my laptop)
 • IP Address. 192.168.1.10 (the rounter starts at 1.100 for dynamic IPs)
 • Subnet Mask. 255.255.255.0
 • Gatewas Address. 192.168.1.1
 • Primar DNS address. 75.75.75.75 (Comcast)
 • Alternate DNS address. 75.75.76.76
 • There is a problem with the router on your home network. (N07)

I've rebooted the router and the Bolt as suggested. The router works fine as all the other computers/phones/etc can connect to it.

I haven't tried a LAN cable yet (not convenient) and would prefer to get the wireless working.

Any ideas?

Lineup wrong, info wrong..

I think I've got the new information, and it's wrong. The what to watch now movies showed that silence of the lambs was on, and it recorded instead die hard, lol.

I looked at the support page. There's like a two or three page fill in the blanks where I tell them everything again they already have on file for me, and then give them all the details on my cable provider, including their phone number, lol. That's a stupid form I refuse to fill out.

Any ideas how to fix? I have forced 6 updates, and went back through guided setup. They do NOT list my DIGITAL cable provider (san diego north county vista DIGITAL). instead show something called standard with an asterisk *.

Any help appreciated...

Closed Caption question/help with KMTTG

Each time I try and save the captions in kmttg, it creates an .srt file and when I play it with the recording, the captions are messed up. Entire lines of dialogue are missing, some words are off, etc.. These issues do NOT happen when I try and watch the program and turn the captions on- they play fine and correct.

So, is it just a case of when you use kmttg, the captions get messed up in the transfer and there's nothing I can actually do about it or is there some setting or something else I could do/try to have the captions be perfect like they are when I am viewing the program?

Caller ID

If you hook your phone line to the TiVo, does it have the ability to display the caller ID info on the TV (like Dish)

Wireless Adapter for TivoHD

With the arrival of our Bolt, our TIVO HD will soon be moved to another room. Since it will be out of range of the CAT-5, I'll need to connect it to our home WAN. I know we once had a Tivo wireless adapter but I can't find it. Can I use a generic USB wireless adapter from Best Buy or does it need to be an official TIVO adapter?

Netflix on Bolt: HEVC @ 1080p?

I have a Roamio rather than a Bolt, so can't answer this for myself. I know the Bolt can decode streams encoded in the most advanced codec, HEVC (also known as h.265), which is what Netflix uses for all of their UHD 4K streams. But Netflix apparently also encodes at least some 1080p content in HEVC as well. According to this page testing Netflix on the Nvidia Shield (which, like the Bolt, can handle UHD video and HEVC encodes), Netflix replaces its normal top-quality 1080p stream, encoded in the older h.264 codec at 5.8 Mbps, with a 1080p stream encoded in HEVC at 5.16 Mbps. Additionally, they offer an even higher 1080p HEVC stream at 6.96 Mbps. Both of those streams would presumably look better than the normal top-quality 1080p h.264 5.8 Mbps stream available on most streaming boxes, including the Roamio. So, even if you don't own a UHD 4K TV and therefore can't access UHD streams from Netflix, your Bolt may be giving you higher-quality 1080p HD from Netflix than you'd otherwise get.

You can check out which kinds of streams Netflix is serving your Bolt using this test video: http://ift.tt/2bAUAJ5
The test video is titled El Fuente: 60 Main10
As the video progresses, it changes the resolution, bitrate and possibly codec of the stream it serves you, with the information printed on-screen.

I'm curious whether Bolt owners see the 5.16 and 6.96 Mbps 1080p HEVC streams from Netflix. I'm also curious if seeing those streams is dependent on whether or not you're subscribed to Netflix's most expensive $12 premium plan (which is required for UHD 4K) or if you can access them with the $10 standard plan.

"Skip" disappeared

The "skip" feature seems to have completely disappeared from my roamio. Even old shows that had skip no longer do. Anybody know what's up or have any suggestions?

No Recording due to No Signal; No Problem with cable

Recently, I have missed some recordings due to my TiVo "claiming" there was no signal on a particular channel. Last night, some channels actually could not be tuned in due to "No Signal"

The cable company says there is no problem. This only affects certain channels.

Anyone else see this?

TWC TiVo Channel Lineup Change is all wrong

This week there was a major channel lineup change on TiVo for TWC here in Santa Clarita, CA/Canyon Country, CA. But it's mostly all wrong.

E.g. History Channel shows TWC Sportsnet
E.g. MTV shows NBC Golf

I'm losing many recordings to wrong channels.

Why has this happened?

we get 54.2 &3 but not 54.1

So we receive the sub channels well but nothing of the primary channel.
Any ideas about correcting this issue?
We also have a pbs channel in lo-v (20.1 rf6 -32 dbm) this channel is 114
degrees of from other towers. Can I add another antenna and can someone recommend one to receive this lo-v signal (22miles away)?

Guide problem

Does anyone know how to contact Tivo about guide problems?

We use an over the air antenna at our house in Rockport Texas and get TV from Victoria, TX. Since yesterday the guide has run out on the set of channels that has the networks so we can't program. The Victoria station picks up network feeds and rebroadcasts on three digital channels (25-1, 25-2, 25-3).

The guide on the Tivos is showing "To Be Announced" for these channels only. The rest are fine. After reconnecting and rebooting Tivos, we still have the problem and I found out the Tivo guide online also is missing 25-1, 25-2, and 25-3 but has 25-4 (which always has the same thing).

tvguide.com does have information for these channels, so it seems to be a Tivo problem.

No programs will get recorded that are set to record until the guide comes back. I guess we can read tvguide.com and set programming by time... Not that there's anything on... Well, we did miss seeing Colbert last night...

NFL Sunday Ticket

Would love an app for the standalone NFL Sunday Ticket. I know TiVo doesn't really control who makes apps for them but still. . .

FX lets a nasty one slip...

On last night's episode of Tyrant, the word "f***ing" was very obviously used with no attempt to censor. I believe that's the first time I've heard the word used on a basic cable, prime time program. It aired at 9 pm CDT...

Big Brother - OAD 8/24 (Veto)

I have to say the scene between Paul, Nicole, and Corey was one of the funniest scenes I have seen in a long time. Corey was so clueless about what was happening right in front of him. Here he is trying to do a little striptease for Nicole while Paul is yelling at her, hilarious.

(And watching him try to make out with Nicole while the Weather Reports were going on, priceless. He was obviously not thinking about the numbers and what could happen if either Paul or Victor was pulled from the block. He should have known James would never have been put up by either Nat or Meech.)

I am so tired of Paul and his act. He is a bully and a narcissist. I was disappointed to see him win the Veto. He can go anytime. I was thinking he is the new Frankie, making the show about promoting himself.

TIVO Series 1 gift card

Hi all,

I recently pulled my TIVO Series 1 out of the closet to setup in a second room. It has a lifetime service package and is in perfect working order.

Nevertheless, it has not been able to find a TiVO service number that will pick up. It has been unused long enough that I have to do Guided Setup again to get the TiVO Service Number and MAK keys which are required to actually email TiVO support. In other words, I can't get far enough along the process to get the info I need to contact support.

More importantly, I read online that TIVO is discontinuing service and offering a $75.00 prepaid gift card as compensation for ending service that was supposed to last for the lifetime. Given that, there isn't much point to me working out the technical issues to get it up and running again... but how do I go about claiming my gift card? They didn't send me the email offer... (maybe they have an old email address on file?)

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Mr. Robot "eps2.6_succ3ss0r.p12" OAD 8/24/2016

Things do not look promising for fsociety.

No Elliot/Mr. Robot in this one. Martin Wallström was credited, but did not appear. (I believe in other episodes he has not appeared in this season, he was not credited, but I may be wrong here.)

Three episodes left this season, 2 single episodes followed by a two-part season finale.

Initially I was wondering if Darlene calculated her response with the TASER, but now I'm not sure if the outcome was accidental.

I guess Dom knows nothing of the Alderson family at this point.

Who came into the coffee shop for Trenton at the end? Did Mobley show up, was it the FBI, or was it the Dark Army?
