SOLVED - Why I couldn't transfer using TiVo Desktop

Long story short: I had similar symptoms as most people with Tivo Desktop: Couldn't transfer files to/from DVR. I was specifically looking to serve my .mp4 movie library from my media-dedicated pc so anyone in the house can transfer/watch. All settings were correct and the "Now Playing from PC" was not showing up in the My Shows screen on the TiVo.



As it turns out (in my case at least) the problem was that when I installed the Tivo Desktop software it picked the wrong Network adapter to communicate with the DVR.



In my case, I have VMWare Workstation installed on this PC and so it creates some VM network adapters. Well the TivoDesktop software picked one of the VMNet adapters which obviously is wrong so it could never connect to the location of the shared videos. As soon as I made the change to the ACTUAL NIC of the PC and re-started the Tivo Server **BOOM** it showed up in my Roamio.



Hope this helps others having this issue although I know that not many people have additional NICs or even Virtual NICs installed.

Replaced router, now TiVo won't connect

I checked some previous threads about this issue but didn't see anything that helped me resolve this issue, so I apologize if this has already been "asked and answered."



Short story: Upgraded my router (which was B/G only) to a Linksys AC1900 Dual Band SMART Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (EA6900-FFP) router. Router is set up, created 5G network and kept logon info for my 2.4G network the same. Computer connects with no problem. Cell phone connects with no problem. PhonePower adapter plugged into ethernet port works with no problem. TiVo Premiere XL4 won't connect.



I've tried connecting to my old network that it was previously using with my old router; no go, even after manually reentering the same info. Tried connecting to the 5G network; no go. Set up Guest network access on router; no go. Turned off all firewall settings on router and retried TiVo connection; still no go. I've rebooted the TiVo a couple of times after changing things, but not after every change. I'm using a TiVo AG0100 wireless adapter.



Does anyone have any suggestions I might try?

MRV - Watching a Recording Show, 10 minutes to end it loses connection

I have a Tivo Premiere XL and a Tivo Premiere.



For instance, if the Premiere is recording a show and we start watching it through MRV, once the recording finishes and then we get to about 10 minutes until the end while watching on MRV on the XL, we get a Lost Connection message and booted. When going back to the recording on the Premiere, it hasn't even saved the spot, and we have to FF and skip through to where it was, if we can remember.



Anyone have this issue? It happens a lot but not every time. :mad:

Link channel surfing and program ratings.

If I'm bored and just flipping through the channels mindlessly, I'm likely to come across some utterly obnoxious show I hate and despise and would rate 10 thumbs down if TiVo let me go that far. Even the two seconds it takes to change the channel again are too many :-).



It would be a really nice feature if "channel up" and "channel down" could arrange to just skip over channels that are currently showing programs that have a 3 thumbs down rating.

I'm really enjoying it so far. I feel like it's improved a lot over season 1, without in any way feeling discontinuous with it.

Can't find wireless network?

We have a TiVo Roamio Plus. About 2 weeks ago, our TV died. Had a local business look at it to see if it was worth repairing, but it wasn't, so we ended up replacing it yesterday. Roamio had been plugged in and running all the time the TV was in the shop. After we hooked up the new TV, we got the info from the Roamio that it didn't have any guide data any longer. It was very slow and sluggish.



Thought it was messed up, so rebooted it, and it doesn't see our wireless network anymore. It had been connected to the wireless since we got it this spring. It doesn't see any wireless networks. I can put my cell phone next to it, and it can connect to wireless fine.



Tried putting in the network SSID and password manually, but it still can't find the network.



Talked to TiVo and they're sending out a wireless external adapter.



Wondering if there's anything else I can do while I'm waiting. It's not in a location where I can run an ethernet cable to it...

Unable to use kmttg with Surface Pro?

Hi All! :)



I have a Microsoft Surface Pro and for some reason, I am not able to use kmttg. I download the file, extract it, but the actual shortcut you click on to open it never appears. I thought it was a Java issue (still think it might be), so I made sure the Pro had Java updated completely and according to the Java website, it is indeed the latest version. I even tried downloading an older version of kmttg (from 2012) and still, no shortcut to actually open the program. It extracts everything else perfectly. Is the Surface Pro just unable to use this program?

Extreme newbie question...

So I just got a Tivo T6 through Atlantic Broadband. It's my first Tivo ever (I've had DVR, but come on...they can't compare) and I'm wondering about something. Is the T6 just a rebranded Roamio for cable companies? That's the vibe I'm getting, but I can't find confirmation anywhere. Thanks guys.

Roamio and MoCA

Quick question hopefully... I have a Roamio Pro and just had Verizon FIOS installed.



If I want to use MoCA for connectivity to my Roamio and Mini, do I also need to have an Ethernet connection to the Roamio? Since I have a coax connected to my Verizon Actiontec Router, shouldn't the router be acting as a bridge for the Roamio so that a direct Ethernet connection is not needed for the Roamio?

Why does the remote just stop working in UHF mode and resort to RF? It's more annoying then any other small bug the Roamio has!! Is this a software issue or hardware?

Empty Folder won't delete

Last week I received the summer update. I turned off the left column, tuned back on Groups. When I saw the network pending, I did a power cycle. The TiVo normally records late night shows and the occasional prime time program. I also only watch live TV on this TiVo and cleanup programs transferred to another TiVo in the morning. I use the HDUI. Nothing has changed in 10 months since I moved.



I forgot my housekeeping yesterday so I had folders this morning. After doing my normal transfer, I used the Clear button to delete the folder and its contents. I have done this many times. I cleaned out the Deleted Items folder.



I now have a folder The Tonight Show Staring Jimmy Fallon [0] Wed 12/31



Right arrow gives me "This group is now empty" screen. I can see the problem from my other TiVo. I have not done a reboot yet because tonight it may fix itself. I have been to TiVo.com's support forums and not found this problem.



Any suggestions?

Outlander on Starz

My wife is a big Outlander fan, and of course, she wants to watch the Outlander series that is starting on Starz in August.



However, I am resistant to paying $13/month for Starz, just to watch one weekly show.



Does anyone know if this will be available elsewhere (Amazon, iTunes, etc)?



Yeah, I know I can get it by alternate magical means, but I am trying to do this legally first.

Netflix app update?

Am I crazy or did the icon for the Netflix app change yesterday? I could swear that it was the usual white on red on Tuesday, but last night it was the new red on white they are using for the newest apps. It wasn't part of the summer update, since we got that a couple of weeks ago. The only difference in the app itself is that the graphics all seem to load faster (but that could be a coincidence).

A simple fact you should have bluntly stated

When Time Warner Cable changed its channel lineup so that there weren't exclusively HD channels anymore and the one channel for each station would automatically deliver HD or SD depending on the receiving environment, WHY DIDN'T YOU LOUDLY ANNOUNCE:



Series 3 or later Tivo units using cablecard(s) *MUST* have a tuning adapter connected in order to receive Time-Warner "auto-HD" channels in HD.



A simple enough announcement but it didn't happen. I had to go through a lot of digging around to finally realize this. I'm sure many people just lived with an inferior picture (think "older people"). I can't imagine why this fact was buried (even though there was plenty of chattering about SDV that few people probably made sense of.)

Add Documentaries to Categories in the menu

I love the new categories in the menu in the 20.4.2 summer update on my Roamio!



I would love to have an additional category for "Documentaries."

Sudden Deletion of several shows no where to be found

Has anyone had this? I have shows that i have on the roamio since release that are still there but there have been shows deleting , from different channels that are not even appearing in the deleted folder.



Is there an explanation? If it automatically deletes does it not even show up in the delete folder?



There was one instance where I turned the show off on a mini, and when i went to see if it was there minutes later it was gone no where to be found..



I am baffled.

Power supply repair notes

First off. Hello, my name is Todd. I am new here. I just bit the bullet and bought a working used TiVo HD Lifetime off Ebay yesterday.



I am somewhat of an expert at repairing SMPS (Switching Mode Power Supplies). I taught myself about 15 years ago when I was finding dead VCR's at garage sales and reviving them. Now I use this trick on HD TV's that my neighbors are throwing out.



Everything I have read so far on this forum on this subject has failed to mention the temperature rating of the replacement caps. Most electrolytic caps are rated at 85°C. This is not sufficient for the cycling duty that these caps endure and failure may quickly reoccur. Spend a little more and get 105°C rated caps. These are available from the NTE rack in the blister pack. uF must be the same. Voltage rating can be higher as long as it fits on the board and in the case.



It is good practice that ALL caps should be replaced, not just bulged ones. In fact a cap can be bad without bulging.



The surest way to determine if a cap is bad is to test it for ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance). In order to do this, you will need an oscilloscope and a square wave generator. I am fortunate that my brother lets me use his old oscilloscope. There are applications that allow a PC sound card to stand in for a low frequency oscilloscope. The wave generator can easily be bread boarded from a 555 timer chip. Frequency should be ~100 kHz. Peak to Peak voltage around 100 mV, although this not critical. You need enough to inject a good signal, but not so much that you blow the cap. Shorting your test leads together gives you the reference waveform...very little change in the square wave amplitude on the O-Scope screen (no ESR). Now place the test leads on the leads of the cap. A GOOD cap will show very little decrease in amplitude. On a BAD cap the amplitude will completely collapse. A cap that collapses about 50% should also be considered suspect and replaced. The uF rating of a GOOD cap will effect the ESR. There are charts available that show the expected % amplitude of a GOOD cap.



I am not an Electrical Engineer, but I play one on TV.

Summer Update cause my HDMI extender to stop working?

Just completed the TiVo Summer update. The next morning my Atlona HDMI over Cat5 extender (AT-HD4-SI40SR) is no longer working.



When I turn on, it can no longer see an input signal and then sometimes it says device output not supported.



Could the Summer update be the issue? Or did the Atlona device just stop working and it's a coincidence.

HDMI Cable error and no sound

About a week ago I started receiving an error on my Tivo that said my HDMI cable is not supported (I am using a Monster HDMI). Normally, I would just change the channel and the error would go away.



Now, I am not getting any sound. Before if this happened, I could just turn off my receiver and turn it back on and it would work. Sound DOES work on my Xbox One that is passing through my Tivo.



This started happening about a week ago or so. The only thing that changes with updates etc... is Tivo so I am assuming that is what is causing the problem.



Any ideas??

My mother is moving from DirecTv to Cox and I am considering putting in Tivos. Anyone in the Tidewater area have any good or bad experiences they want to share? The Cox sales rep warned me about 'synchronizing' issues but couldn't explain what that meant...



The TV package would be the Cox Advanced choice and I am thinking a Roamio Plus and a Mini.

Tivo Series 2 and Digital Adapter

I have TimeWarner in Southern California and I like my Series 2 Tivo. But they are going all digital so I needed the adapter (my TV is also not digital, but I don't think that matters).



They set it up so that the adapter feeds into the Tivo. I can record any one channel that the adapter is on, as long as the Tivo is on channel 3, but of course that is not how a Tivo is supposed to work. I'm hardly taking full advantage of the Tivo that way.



Is there any way I can actually have my old Tivo work as it's supposed to work with Time Warner once they go all digital?

Roamio Basic Video Freezing

So I have been noticing over the last week or so that some video recordings on my Roamio while in playback will freeze or basically pause and shudder and it's like the whole DVR is froze up because after trying to get out of the video it stops responding for 5 or 10 seconds then is fine again. I try to again play the video recording and it might play fine for a few seconds and then do the same thing or it might act just fine and finish playing with no issues. But it's completely random and doesn't seem to matter what station it was recorded from. I have 2 minis and when the video pauses or freezes on the mini like the Roamio it errors out and says it has lost connection to the main Roamio but I can go to another video and it plays fine and then go back to the one that froze up and it plays with no problem or it still will freeze. It all seems very random but it all seems to have something to do with the Roamio freezing up and it all started after the summer update BTW I have tried to reboot all of them and the issue continues. Is anyone else having this problem?

MoCA Networking/Splitter Type

The house I'm moving into has splitters that are rated 5-1000MHz. In the various online material I've come across on the issue, MoCA can range into about 1.6GHz. Would I need to replace the splitters that I have now or will the ones rated 1000MHz really be ok?

Got summer update, now have V53 error on many premium channels

Was greeted yesterday when i turned on my Roamio with the boot up animation and a message telling me my device had been upgraded. Since the update many of my premium channels are showing a floating V53 error. Please note every one of these V53 channels worked perfectly for the last 8 months I have had the Roamio. It all started after the summer update.



I tried all the usual fixes:



-Rebooted the Roamio

-Rebooted the tuning adapter

-Cox sent refresh signals

-Cox re-paired the cable card



Nothing made any difference and I am at wits end. Ideas?

Premiere Elite keeps rebooting

When I turned my TV on today I was greeted by the welcome screen. It was stuck there so I unplugged to force a reboot. After successfully restarting, I pressed Live TV which triggered a restart. Pressing Guide or navigating to a recorded show and pressing Play also results in a restart. I can navigate the settings menus without any restarts.



I also notice that just after the TiVo Central screen appears a message displays briefly in the live TV window stating "Press Zoom". When I pressed Zoom a message appeared briefly that said something about a service interruption, but then it restarted again. Just before it restarts the screen goes black except for the live TV window which remains visible and functioning for a few seconds.



I still have 20.4.1. I use the HD UI. Any ideas?

Finding and Watching past episodes of current shows

Question of the day.... I want to find some earlier episodes of shows i like...ie. Endeavor on PBS. With old Fios.. I could find On Demand for free.

Does Tivo offer anything like that? Or do i need Netflicks or Hulu?

Network currently unavailable - NO IT ISN'T!

Our system went through the update successfully the other day (or so I assume). Everything seems to be working fine except Video on Demand. When I click on it, I get "The network is currently unavailable....." message. This has been going on for a couple days and we haven't been able to access VoD at all.



I've used the prompts to check everything - network settings, diagnostics, connecting to the internet, and everything is fine. It shows we are connected.



I've restarted the system a couple times and I still get the same message. Nothing has changed in our house. We have the same broadband connection we have always had, no problems, no service issues, nothing. We haven't touched our Tivo unit or any of the cords that connect it.



Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!

Simple Universal Remotes?

Hey all! I've been doing a bit of research about universal remotes but they seem to either have way too many features that I'd never use or "simple" ones that have horrid reviews.



I'd simply like to control my Visio Smart TV (including the input sources), my TiVO Premiere, and a Roku.



I'll probably stick with Harmony remotes. The Smart Control looks awesome but I'd never use a device as the remote which makes it seem overpriced for what I need. The 350 seems perfect but the reviews are horrid.



One thing that perplexes me -- with a universal remote, when you want to watch Netflix for example, do you program the remote to use TiVO's Netflix instead of the Smart TV and Roku's Netflix apps?



I just want a remote itself to control the 3 devices that I don't need to pay for extra features like controlling it via a smartphone.

Ghost Entry in Recently Deleted

Not a big deal, but still........ I'm a neat freak and like to delete items in the "recently deleted" folder (I realize it isn't necessary). There is a "ghost entry" in the folder - it's empty, but says there is one item left. Rebooting doesn't fix it. Any thoughts? Thanks.

ads make ie9 refresh constantly

Yesterday for a while, and again now, when I browse to TCF in IE9 the pages keep refreshing at least once per second, making it impossible to do any navigating on the site. This doesn't happen on Google Chrome or with Safari. (I had to use Safari to even post this.)



I know it seems inexplicable to some readers but I like to use IE as my default browser on my PC. :o I was using IE10 (my OS is Win7 pro, 64bit) but had to revert to IE9 to solve an issue with PlayOn. That was months ago and this refresh problem just started happening yesterday.



Also, I've tried many other websites that include ads that change and only the TCF website gives me this problem. I've disabled the shockwave flash add-on in case that is pertinent.



Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there something I can do on adSense to fix this?

TiVo TCD140060 vs TCD240080

My TCD140060 seems to have a bad power supply. I can buy a TCD240080 for less than a new power supply though the TCD240080 has a bad hard drive. Can I use the drive from the TCD140060 in the TCD240080?

Summer Update only happened on 1 of my 3 Premiere units, why?

Is there any way to force the summer update? I have 3 Premieres and 1 of them has the update while the other 2 don't.

Lifetime Service Transfer Question

I bought a used Toshiba Series 2 DVR at a swap meet. When I powered it up, the System Information screen says the TiVo account is in good standing. It also says call their service number since the machine hadn't logged on in a long time.



Since I'm not the original owner, and don't know who he/she is, and I've never had a TiVo subscription, can I get a free account in my name and receive the TiVo service?

Simple way to move a movie on my PC to a Roamio

I have some movies on my Windows 7 PC in the format of files starting with Vidio_TS.IFO and 5 or more VTS_01_x.VOB files (x goes from 1 to the number od VOB files). I can make DVDs without any problems and can watch on my PC, is there a simple way to move this type movie copy to my Roamio ? I have installed kmttg v1.1b for SP backup and other functions.

Premier 4 OTA - any options?

I bought a Premier 4 about a two years. Now I'd like to cut the cord and do away with the cable and just do the Antenna... however from what I'm reading the Premier 4s don't have an antenna option? Is there any kind of converter or something that I can get that'll let this work? Or am I out of luck and I need to buy a different one?

Good time to install update setting

Having just been woken up at 2 AM by the Premiere in my bedroom running the fan in leafblower mode and shining green lasers in my eyes as it was rebooting to apply the summer update, I'd like to suggest a new setting:



Good times to apply updates



(or maybe really really bad times to apply updates :-).

Roamio and Mini troubleshooting

Got a Roamio Plus and three Mini's. I replaced the drive with a WD 3 TB AV-GP green drive before first use. All are on a MOCA network with Fios service.



My issue is a combination of heavy pixelization and stuttering, both live and recorded shows. Sometimes if I back up the problem remains the same, in other cases the second time through the playback is clear. It's intermittent so a real challenge to identify the source so far.



I've also occasionally gotten a channel not avail or authorized error on the Roamio, often on two or three in a row, then when going back to that channel in a few seconds it works.



Lastly less often the Roamio will just be really slow going through any menu, or fail to change channel or change and no video or audio appear, and finally it will reboot. I can hear a Mini in the other room still playing while the Roamio is frozen locally, of course the Mini goes down when the Roamio finally reboots.



All the Mini's also suffer from an occasional sudden reboot. I've replaced the splitter and all but two of the coax runs (those two runs are going to be extremely difficult to replace so they are a last resort), including the original coax from the Fios ONT to my splitter. I replaced the patchwork of splitters and cables with one central splitter, save one run to my office has a splitter for the Mini there and my Fios router.



I've power cycled the Fios ONT too (and Router).



I'm torn on whether to try putting the unused original 1 TB drive back in or temporarily run coax on the floor to the two difficult to replace spots as a troubleshooting method. If neither of these find the problem I'd assume the Roamio itself has issues.



I had a Tivo HD and Premiere before buying the Roamio on the unimproved coax cable plant with NO issues whatsoever.



I'm leaning towards a diagnosis of the HD being flakey, the Roamio having issues with drive access and causing all these symptoms.

Before the Roamio and other Tivo's, I had a couple Panasonic Showstopper / Replay TV's, and later four Sonic Blue 5000 series Replays, and Ceton tuner with WMC, etc. How did we live before DVR's?

Stuck at Welcome, powering up screen

I have 4 tivos, and today the cable company showed up to give me a new premiere XL4. Sweet. But that meant shuffling the different units around. I move the HD from the bedroom into the office.



When I plugged it in, I got the dreaded "powering up screen freeze."



I happen to have a spare HD unit sitting in a closet (long story). It seems that the HD is usally the culprit and occasionally the power supply.



I know that the service (lifetime) is tied to the motherboard, and the cable card is paired to it as well.



I know I can replace the power supply to see if that is the issue (which I doubt, as it seems to be running ok).



If I replace the hard drive with the one from the other unit, will it work or do I need to do some reformatting? I have a copy of instant cake but I cannot remember which model I bought it for.

Unable to stream files to iPad that were uploaded to TiVo

Here is my situation. I have several teaching videos that I have uploaded to my Roamio using pyTiVo and kmttg. My plan was and is to watch them on my TV via my Roamio when I am at home and then pick up where I left off on my iPad when I am away from home or in the non-entertainment areas in my home (like outside sitting on the deck enjoying the nice weather). The videos are in mp4 format and as far as I can tell, they are not copy protected. The videos play well on the Roamio, however, I am unable to stream them to my iPad. The option is greyed out and when I click on it, it states that the program is either copy protected or in an unsupported format. I have recoded it to mpeg2 and uploaded it again with the same results.



So am I missing something, doing something wrong, or it is just not possible.

Anyone know where the CableCard pairing information is stored on a Roamio?



I have a Roamio Plus that has a cablecard that's already paired. If I replace the drive, is the pairing information preserved somewhere? (or will it just work anyway since I'm not ejecting and reinserting the cablecard)?



Just need to know how much time to allocate (Comcast has usually been good to me when I called to do pairing on my Tivo's)

Is there a typical time for an update to be downloaded?

Without getting into why, I have all four tuners on my premiere recording from 3:00am to 8:00am seven days a week. Will this cause a problem getting the update?

Hi everyone! I have a Series 2 and a Tivo HD XL that I have been using with Vuze to transfer downloaded recordings to the Tivos. Unfortunately, this setup is pretty glitchy, and for the last few days, Vuze refuses to see the TiVos and vice versa. I'm looking for a more reliable way to transfer downloaded files to the TiVos.



I'm reading a lot here about pyTivo and kmttg, as well as Tivo Desktop (Plus). What would you recommend as a setup to a total newbie trying to transfer recordings? Ideally, I'd like something that will convert files and transfer them.

I am going to be purchasing a Roamio Pro in the next couple weeks, upgrading from a TiVoHD. I was wondering if anyone ever put together a comprehensive FAQ for the Roamio boxes, similar to the stickied thread (linked below) in the Series 3 forum. Front panel lights light up and remote works the lights. Can put the Roamio in standby and out by doing it blind aol Just waited to see if it would. Could hard drive cause something like this?

Did the FF/Rew Change?

I noticed when I ff/rew and then hit play it goes back further than it used to. Just a few seconds, but it's kind of annoying after having it all these years and learning when to hit play to get where I want. I spent last night wanting to punch my TV while watching shows. I just got my summer update last night though so it wasn't that, this started days before. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a way to adjust the jump back time by chance? I know it's only a slight change, but I can't help it, it's driving me crazy.

Another kind of meh episode. I liked Zach for awhile, but he's really getting annoying. I was thrilled that Christina said no for his plan to go up on the block and throw the DoD competition. It's about time someone was smart about that. If I'm playing there is NO way I'm A) voluntarily going on the block and B) throwing a competition. She's right, too many pawns over the years have gone home.



Caleb's date with Amber was kind of funny. And I don't think he's gotten the hint YET she's not interested.

Now that I've got these pieces of software going (thanks mokeyj) ... What I'm finding is that there are at least 2 output files for every input file. There is in most cases, a .ts file , and then the mpg or mp4 file.



The TS file is playable, but much larger and the fast forward does not work.



Is there any need to keep the work files?

3tb Tivo Roamio - Internal vs External

Ok... so heres my story...

I have a tivo Roamio i bought about a year ago, opened the box, and threw in a brand new 3tb drive.. all was great in the world!!

two weekends ago, had a weird electrical problem in my house, that took out my tv, and TV box... (no power) No big deal, tv was repair under warrenty, and Tivo charged me 50 bucks for a new(referb) box.. No big deal, i opened the refurb box, and popped in my 3tb drive, hoping i wouldnt lose all my shows...

I boot it up, wonderus day, theres all my recordings.. it did move EVERYTHING from deleted back into active

no biggy.. however, i was getting I THINK it was a c133 unknown error, and could not get the Box to activitate my tivo service... It stated on the tivo central screen (we will fix this, you may watch live tv and recorded shows)

Tivo no knowing i change my HD sent me another box thinking it was a problem with the box... last night i sat down to watch one of my shows, it came up with this weird, the user has placed this show to delete in dec 2017, which means its lifespan is 12353232 mins away.. therefor cannot be played...

and NON of my shows were watchable...

So NOW i have my Original 1tb drive in my tivo, and it booted up just fine, and is activated...

So my delema is..

I have my 3tb drive.. is there ANY way to get the shows off of there..

and going forward, should i try and get the 3tb external, this way IF my box craps out again, i can just plug the external into the new box, remember the cable card is the same, that got moved from the old bad box to the new one...

Sorry for the long winded story, just very sad to have lost all my shows :(

The Last Ship "Lockdown" (7/27/14) SPOILERS!

Well, I expect we'll see more episodes like this one as the season rolls on. More internal drama and conflict as opposed to the action/adventure bent of "El Toro."



It seems that Quincy has pissed off the Commander and lost his ice cream privileges.



I know it was corny but I did like the bit at the end with the crew members re-enlisting. It reminded me a little of that great scene in The Alamo (1960), when most of the men are ready to ride out in retreat and Col. Travis salutes their bravery and honor. Of course, they all have a change of heart, dismount and stand behind him to face their fate together.

Anyway, this season it seems that it's not recording and I don't know why. Every once in awhile it'll record an episode that was aired awhile ago in the 13th (current) season, but not weekly at all. I don't know why - I have it set for new only.

Netflix cast to roamio

A few months ago I was able to hit the googlecsst button on the Netflix app on my phone and launch it on the tivo, but I haven't seen my TiVo roamio as an available device. I did purchase a Chromecast for another Tv. I doubt that would affect the Netflix app from casting to my TiVo.



Any one run into the same issue and was able to resolve it?

iPad app shuts my tv off when i launch it

I've got a really strange problem and am looking for any ideas. Whenever I launch the TiVo iPad app, my Vizio TV shuts off. I imagine it must be some sort of issue with an HDMI protocol of some sort but I'm at a loss as to how to fix it. My Roamio is connected to a denon av receiver which then connects to the TV - all via HDMI cables. Any suggestions on how to diagnose and correct this would be much appreciated.

I am considering a TiVo Roamio Plus and 6 TiVo Mini boxes and 7 Roku 3 boxes.

I am currently using Verizon FiOS and have the Quantum TV Premium package. I have 2 VMS1100 DVR boxes and 5 IPC1100 client boxes. I currently pay $85.00 per month.



I was originally considering getting 2 Roamio Plus boxes and 5 TiVo Mini boxes, with lifetime subscriptions, along with 7 Roku 3 boxes for VOD. I think that this option is too expensive up front. I recently learned that you can connect up to 8 Tivo Mini boxes to a single Roamio Plus box with dynamic tuner allocation. This system is different from Verizon's, since Verizon requires 1 VMS1100 box for every 4 IPC1100 client boxes. We don't use all all 7 TVs (actually 8, but 2 are hooked up to a single box) at the same time, so this could probably work for us.



Could you watch 6 different live shows on 6 TiVo Mini boxes, while not watching anything on the Roamio Plus box, or does the Roamio Plus box always keep 1 or 2 tuners for itself, at all times? The Verizon VMS1100 always keeps 2 tuners for itself. Can you watch the same live show on the Roamio Plus box and the 6 TiVo Mini boxes at the same time? Could you stream recorded content to all 6 TiVo Mini boxes while watching something live on the Roamio Plus box? Can every single box watch the same recording at the same time? Is there any lag on the TiVo Mini boxes?

What is DT? is it HD?

I am setting up my favorite channels and i notice, for instance CBS is listed WCBSDT. Why is it not WCBSHD?

All my Network channels are DT.. With stations like USA, TNT, FX are HD?



Now i know all HD tv is DT, but not all DT is HD... But why is there a difference in the call letters (DT/HD?



Am i loosing quality with the DT channels?

Roamio Pro V-58 Error

Received my new Roamio Pro Last Week, Previously had a Premier and a Elite online, my intent was to replace the TWC DVR for the kids TV. Installation went fine as well as the Cable card pairing. All seemed well until the next morning when I started to notice some of my scheduled recordings being cut short with no signal on the channel. After some tinkering I notice that many channels when selected would appear to tune for a moment then I would get a blank screen with a Tivo Generate V-58 (Unauthorized Channel contact your cable provider message", I checked the other Tivo and the TWC box and they both tuned and received the troubled channels without incident.



I initially contacted the generic TWC support and the women who answered convinced me within 10 seconds that she would be useless in resolving the problem, I then called the cable card support number and the fellow I spoke with (Matt) was more than helpful and clearly had a functional knowledge of the equipment. We went through many tests to check signal levels etc, swapped out the tuning adaptor and tried a different cable card, all resulting in what appeared to be good functionality followed with a few hours by a repeat of the same V-58 failure.



Reaching full aggrevation level I put it to bed for the night, when I looked at it again the next day all seems to work correctly and cannot get it to repeat the error.



I'm wondering if others have experienced the same and could this simply be a case of one or all of the following (Tivo,Tuning Adaptor, Cable Card) needing some time to settle or acquire some additional data relating to the channel lineup ?.



Additionally thinking that perhaps the cable card wasn't really capable of handling the six streams I disabled tuners 5 & 6, after some further searching I'm pretty sure the card is capable but haven't yet re-enabled the additional two tuners..



At the moment TWC is scheduled to come out on Thursday but I'm skeptical of their thought that this is a signal level issue..

I just ordered my Roamio Plus and 3 Mini's. While waiting for them to arrive I thought I'd get a few answers if possible. I did read other posts about this subject.



I have coax and ethernet in each of the rooms already.



I have not decided which room to put the main unit in as of yet. Right now I have Directv and the main unit is in the bedroom at the far end of the house along with the Router/Modem.



The other end of the house is where the Directv (and where the cable) used to come into the house to the splitter which then branches out to the DTV genie subunits.



My network is all Cat 6a at the minimum. I have 3 NAS' on the network, AV receiver, 2 apple TV's, 1 Amazon fireTV, 4 media players, 4 computers, 4 laser printers, 2 color printers, an all in one printer/copier/fax machine, 6 iPads all on my network, ooma telephone. Doing a lanscan shows I have 34 different devices currently connected to the network either wirelessly or wired. Each room has a GB switch in it that feeds back to the main switch in the bedroom.



I am frequently transferring files back and forth between NAS' as well as the computer to the NAS' at all hours of the day. Each computer is backed up throughout the day. I also stream full BR.ISO's, etc from one of the NAS to the home theater room.



I am just wondering if I should be going MoCA or Ethernet? My major concern is that if a bunch of things are going at once on my network could I potentially have some streaming issues between the Roamio and the Mini's or even steaming issues with large files to from the NAS to the HTPC.

Roamio Basic fan noise and suggestions

but I wanted to bring it up again just to make sure I don't have a defective unit. I purchased my Roamio basic from Amazon and got it up and running this past week. Ever since I plugged it in, I could hear this sort of high pitched noise/whine coming from the unit. My search for this issue didn't find much, and in the other thread referencing the noise, some people said they heard a noise, some said they didn't, so it didn't seem convincing that many people heard the same noise. I called TiVo support and they said the noise was the fan, which I suspected. They said if it gets louder or annoying, I can send it in and they can replace the fan. However, I'm within my 30 day return window with Amazon so it might be quicker to do a replacement and see if the new one makes the same noise but I don't want to do that if this is normal. I've attached a recording from my phone taken right by the unit. I had to boost the volume so the background noise is loud, but if you listen to the higher pitched noise, that is what I'm referring to.

The Motorola DVR I had from Cox made noise, but it was just a blowing air type noise and it was very quiet. This noise can be heard throughout my living room and I can even hear it now while I'm watching TV if the volume isn't too loud. It's starting to get annoying, and my entertainment center doesn't have a cabinet wide enough for me to stick it in to see if I can eliminate the noise. Can anyone with a basic let me know if they hear this same type of noise?

Also, I noticed with the TiVo suggestions that it was only recording SD versions of programs. I read a thread that said to remove the SD versions of channels I have in HD, which I did (and as a plus, it made my guide cleaner). However, it's still only recording shows on the SD channels I have left in the lineup. I was hoping to use the suggestions since I used to use TiVo a while back before I went HD and rented the DVR from Cox, but it's now useless if it won't record any HD. Is there any way to get it to record on HD channels?

Considering buying used Series 3, worried about it failing

Hi,



I am currently going through the process of "cutting the cord" and just got an outdoor antenna mounted on my roof. I'm now in the process of trying to get a DVR that will work with my OTA channels. A used TiVo with lifetime service seems like the best option.



I was considering getting a TiVo premier but apparently it doesn't work too well with OTA channels, that leads me to the series 3. I've been reading up on the capacitor issues and such and I'm worried I'll be buying a product that will fail in a couple months. I have never used a sodering iron and I'm not sure I would be comfotable paying $200-300 for something I would have to be constantly fixing.



The series 3 is an older product but is it still reliable enough to use for at least the next 2-3 years?

Using Series 2 Tivo with Time Warner Cable

I am trying to connect my Series 2 Tivo to my Time Warner Cable Cisco 4742 box. The Ir blaster does not change the channels. Tivo does not list Cisco but does list Scientific Atlanta. None of the dozen or so codes I have tried work.



Would a direct connect IR blaster be a possible option?



Any help would be hugely appreciated!

TiVo Series 2 TCD140060 Not Booting

My TiVo hung a couple times over the past month and pulling the power cord cleared it up...that is until a couple nights ago. The first time I cycled the power it got to where I was going to TiVo Central and hung so I cycled the power again and this time it got to the 'powering up' screen and hung so I cycled the power again. This time it did not even get to the first screen, the TV stayed on a blue screen. All four lights on the front of the TiVo were on (green, red, and both yellows). I left it over night and still no change. Next I pulled the power again, unplugged everything else (only the USB ethernet) and powered it up again...still the blue screen only and all four lights on and it stayed this way all day.



After some research I was lead to believe it was a bad hard drive so I picked up a new (to me) 80GB WD drive. I pulled my original 60GB drive from the TiVo unit and using MFSLive I was able to successfully clone the old drive to the new one. I was feeling really good about this until I put the new drive in the system and got the same results as I did with the old drive.



What should I do next? :confused:

Series 2 540 grey screen.

I have a 540080 series 2. A few months ago the guide failed to up date. I rebooted the unit and it went to guided setup. After running through guided setup it failed to connect, kept saying there was a problem with the adapter. I tested the adapter in the PC and it is good. Years back I upgraded the drive to 250 but it ended up going south so I replaced it with the origina. lI assumed it was either the hardrive finally going on me now or the USB chip went bad. We hardly ever use it so I never messed with it anymore. I finally got around to messing with it again. I ran a phone line to see if it will update over the phone. It was on grey screen when I turned the TV over to it. I rebooted it and it goes to Welcome for less than a minute then grey screen. I tried to kickstart for a drive test but it goes grey screen before the yellow light comes on so I am unable to get into kickstart mode. I am getting ready to prepare a drive to replace the original. Does it sound like the drive or possibly the board or power supply shot?

Hey I'm guessing I'm not the first on to ask, where can I find image of the TCD74632 HD? Instantcake doesn't have the model! winmfs keep saying not a tivo drive so I cant back it up to another drive, if I try to reinstall it in the tivo its stuck in a boot loop. Suggestions being auto-deleted?

I've got a 4 tuner Tivo Roamio with the suggestions turned on. I noticed today that the TiVo was recording a movie for a suggestion which sounded interesting. I checked back about half an hour later and the Tivo had started recording another movie for a suggestion but the first movie was no where to be found in the suggestion list. I was watching live TV the entire time so it didn't reboot. I checked back again less than an hour later and now the second movie was no longer recording (and not in the suggestion list) and TiVo was off recording a third movie.



They're just suggestions and I've got plenty of other recordings there so it's not a major issue but... has anyone else seen this behavior?

TV Guide filtering

Right now if you press the red "C" button you access the filtering options.



My suggestion is to either make holding this button down access the filtering options or make these filtering options part of the options you see when pressing the yellow "A" button.



A single press of the red "C" button should switch between the default filters and display the results in real time. The default filters should be able to be "checked" or "unchecked" in the filtering options menu.

IT would be nice if movies, news, kids and sports were color coded in the guide with an option to turn this on/off.

Right now if you have set up a season pass for a show through the guide you have about 7-8 button clicks to get through to do that plus in this process you are taken to a 2nd (entirely different) screen for the season pass setup and any show running in the video window is interrupted for a second or two.



Also right now to cancel a recording in the tv guide requires 8 button presses through a series of menus.



This seems like it could be drastically streamlined and should be right?



Well in WMC it works like this......



Press the record button once on a show in the guide and it records the episode.



Press it twice and it sets up a default season pass.



Press it again and you are back to square one. You have canceled.

Season Pass KAM options affect prior recordings?

I always thought that if you adjusted the "keep at most" number in an SP, that it only affected go-forward recordings. For instance change KAM set to 3, from 25. If you already have 5 episodes, it would leave the 5 and not record again until you are down to 2.



Apparently, though, that's not the behavior? I had an SP that was at "record all" and had 100+ episodes. Wanted to stop/slow the pace of recording additional episodes, so changed the KAM to 3 and it automatically deleted all but three of the unwatched episodes. I guess in hindsight, I should have just switched the SP to "new only" as there are no new episodes, only repeats.

Anyone have a source other than Weakness for fan replacements? Perhaps I'm just cheap but $20 plus shipping doesn't seem very affordable.

Changing mpeg2 program steam to tivo file

I want to change a mpeg program file to a tivo file using videoredo. I get this when I try to save it "Tivo is only supported when the source file is also a tivo file'. How can get thisto save as a tivo file or can it be done?

Mini and lag?

I am thinking about getting a Mini to replace my Premier, which is to me is extreme slow doing anything. I have a Roamio which is 10 times faster and more reliable than my premier is. Couple of questions.



1. When changing chennels is their a lot of lag time?

2. I lose 1 turner from my Roamio correct?

3. I can just hook it up to my Ethernet Network on Comcast?

4. Menus etc are they fast and fluid or slow as hell like the premier?

5. No cable card, but does that mean I will not get On Demand stuff?



I have a change to get a mini for $60 is why I am thinking of doing it.

kmttg - no demux files ... tivodecode failed

Hi, I am having a problem with SOME of my *.TiVo files... trying to convert them to some/any format that I don't need a subscription to watch. So, I've been using KMTTG... but with files that I've already transferred to my hard drive on my PC, I've been having problems ... again, just with SOME of them.

Jointly purchasing a property with other family members

I'm looking for some general thoughts on joint purchase of a single property by several people -- my siblings and I, to be precise. (I know there are some threads adjacent to this topic, like dthmj's saga thread, but I think this is a slightly different issue.)



Disclaimer: I'm aware that we will likely need actual legal help with this. I am not seeking to use TCF as a proxy for a real attorney. I am just looking for some general thoughts from anyone with experience doing this.



Background: My sisters and I may have the opportunity to jointly purchase a vacation home in a location where my family has been taking summer vacations for literally my entire life. Our intent is that this would eventually be a multigenerational family vacation home, which is common for other properties in this area. The cost is such that it would be impractical for any one of us to make the purchase ourselves; a joint purchase removes that restriction. And we really do all want to share ownership. This will be a family asset. (Again, this is common in the area in question. Our neighbors there share the property among five generations of their family!)



Questions: This opportunity may come and go quickly, so we are trying to get grounded on the mechanics of making a purchase this way as fast as possible. (I'm not worried about the arrangements after the purchase for now, such as who pays for what maintenance, and so on.) I have no idea how to set ourselves up to do it. For example, what name(s) would be on the mortgage? The tax records? Does it have to be one of us (and if so, how do the others legally participate), or can it be all of us? Or do we need to set up a corporation of some sort to be the legal owner, and then we all have a stake in that? How does insurance and liability work?



Again, we will consult appropriate legal help for all this. But I'd be grateful for any informal knowledge or advice from TCF to help me start thinking about this properly. Has anyone here done something like this?

Putting shows on DVD with DVD Recorder

I had a Humax Tivo and loved it. I put shows on DVDs for my oldest son while he was in college. He is out of college and a naval aviator in San Diego and on his own so I thought I could upgrade to a nice Tivo Roamio. Well....he is getting deployed next month and has given me a long list of shows he wants recorded and mailed to him while on the ship. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I don't have the old Tivo hooked up anymore. So here are my choices: I do have a DVD recorder that I could hook up to the Roamio but I cannot find anything that would enable me to put a recording on another device on the Roamio menu (even with my ancient Tivo2 before the Humax, you had the "Save to VCR" option), I could have the DVD recorder record live tv and schedule the recordings which would be a pain as I would have to find out every week which shows plays at what time....or....I can hook up my old Humax Tivo to another TV :oand have to keep my Verizon FIOS box which I was planning on getting rid of since I have a cable card in my Roamio. I'm not the savviest technology expert so I can't do an elaborate set up. I also do not have a computer with a DVD writer any longer, just a laptop with Windows 8 or an Ipad (if that were the route I had to go). Thank you for any help anyone can offer.

Can Tivo stream content outside the USA

I'm traveling abroad right now and can't seem to connect to my Tivo stream from Brazil. All I get is "a network error occurred". I've tried on several wireless networks but I can't even establish a connection. Is there something in the IP addressing preventing me from connecting to discourage viewing US content outside the US?

The Bridge Season 2 (spoilers to current episodes)

With the new direction the series has taken in going to a more character driven and less procedural bent, I'm not 100% sure they have found their way.





With 2 episodes in so far I'm ok with some of the changes, at times it feels like I can invest more into the show, but there are some things that I really miss.



Having lost Marco's family I'm having a lot harder of a time connecting with him, and Sonya sleeping with her sisters attackers brother just came out of nowhere, and they have softened her up a lot, she seems to have lost a lot of that quirkiness I found endearing.



What seems trivial and bothers me the most so far is Demian Bichir's inconsistent accent, in S1 his english was very consistently accented, but in S2 it's all over the map, sometimes there's almost no trace of accent in his english. I've seen the actor in other roles being very fluent in english so I'm not sure where the inconsistency is creeping in from.

Swapping drives in a Roamio

I swapped out a 1gb drive from Roamio Plus with a 3tb drive I had previously in a Roamio basic. Thought it went ok until I realized none of the recordings I had set were recording. By chance I went into the sys info screen and found that the TSN was missing??



When I did the swap it all worked until the last boot (box had to download a software update) but when it came up it told me there was hardware problem and I would need to reboot the Tivo. Do so and until now I thought I was ok until I found it wasn't recording anything.



I'm doing a clear an reset and see if that helps. Has anyone else seen this before?

HDMI roamio basic fix? Still broke after the summer update.

I had my roamio basic for about 4 months, and one day after coming home from work with the same television the hdmi was not outputting. The television was not updated so whatever was working for the past 4 months all of a sudden does not.



What are my options? I really don't consider an external HDMI adapter as a fix. The UI is nice and all but im not too far from just going with comcast's DVR. I dropped another 20 bucks on the weekness composite cables just to get crappy rca video so thats OK for now but its got all sorts of buzzing which sucks some more. Thanks for any helpful comments.

Bug report: Aspect Correction Mode switches from Panel to Full

Since getting the Summer 2014 software update, I've noticed a bug with the aspect correction mode setting. I have it set to Panel on a 16:9 display. After 24 hours, the video changes to Full aspect, but still displays the setting as Panel. Every time I reset it, it switches back to Full a day later.



I prefer Panel when viewing old SD programs so they don't get stretched horizontally.

"The Good Wife" For Dummies (seeking veteran knowledge)

Yes, I know this show started five years ago, but we're just starting it now.



We're 7 episodes in to the first season, and so far, it's a formulaic thing with each episode having a fully contained legal-based story of varying believability (and I'm not even a lawyer), and the overall arc of the husband's situation and how everyone reacts to it.



It's got such great reviews, and was even nominated for Emmys this year, so it must be (still) doing good things. I like the husband arc, but the law stuff sometimes almost feels like filler between pieces of the husband storyline. I find myself yelling "Oh, COME ON!" at the legal stuff on a semi-regular basis.



I don't want spoilers, just some yes or nos and any general comments



1. Does the show evolve from this format?

2. If not, does the law stuff get better?

3. Is it worth watching five seasons of at this point? (I realize this is quite subjective :) )

Tivo app network remote doesn't work on my Series 3

We've got a Premiere and a Series 3 on our home network and have recently started using the official Tivo app on our iPhones.



We have enabled Network Remote Control on both boxes.



For the Premiere box, everything works great with the remote control feature.



On the Series 3, all the other features of the Tivo iPhone app work, except for the remote control.



Any ideas? We have a third party app that we have used for years called "DVR Remote" that works fine to control the Series 3 over the network, but really want to get the official app working.

Underground BBQ Challenge

I caught this show on the new FYI network. It's pretty bad. Supposedly it's a challenge between 2 areas of local cities competing. First episode was NY, and second was Austin.



Both episodes seemed to be a hippster vs. a non-hippster. I couldn't finish the first episode. I only watched the second because it was from my town. Definitely won't be watching again, as it's pretty bad.

I get my TV signal via OTA. I cut the cord, a year or two ago. I don't miss cable or satellite TV at all. What I do miss is the DVR. I am looking to buy a Tivo on Ebay. What I am wanting to know is which unit that Tivo has is best suited for OTA? I dont need a big HD as I don't save what I record. Also two turners would be more than enough. One that that is concerning me, I read some reviews on Amazon.com about home some Tivo Premieres don't do a very good job of tuning in the local stations. I dont know if these people that have problems are few or what.



Any help that you all can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Well, psycho Caleb is back. Sure went from Creepy to not caring back to creepy pretty quick. :rolleyes:



And whoever said it was right. Cody should have put Caleb up. He will definitely strike at Cody first.



And Donny has to be the most genuinely nice guy (or seriously a door mat). He seems upset that Cody is upset that he put him up. :(



Still rooting for Donny to win. But sooner or later his luck as a "pawn" will run out if this keeps up. Hoping he wins HOH tonight!

FIOS lineup change

Don't know if this applies out of the MD/DC/VA metro market or not, but FIOS is moving some channels around. This may affect any Season Passes you have set up for these channel numbers.

I just purchased my first HD tv.

I have a TiVo HD unit with a Comcast cablecard, since 2009.



Currently, I can record Comcast HD channels and watch them on my non HD tv.

Will I get TRUE HD from my TiVo HD unit to my new HDTV ?

Comcast says I need to upgrade to HD service.

But I think I have HD through my Tivo HD unit ?



Will an upgrade to HD service from Comcast require a new cablecard ? A simple switch at the Comcast home office ?



Why pay approx. 10/mth more if I get HD quality through the TiVo HD unit

Incomplete Download from Tivo Series 4 to Windows 8

Hi,

Sometimes I am getting incomplete downloads from my series 4 to Windows 8. Most of the time, there isn't a problem downloading TV shows or movies. But intermittently there is a movie or show that will not download completely. I get partial downloads.



I have tried to transfer to another tivo box and then download from there, but i get the same incomplete file.



The show is fine when I play it on the tivo box.



Has anyone else had this issue AND have a solution?

Forensic Files on CNN

Forensic Files on CNN have actually been recording the coverage of the MH17 plane shoot-down, even though it still shows the guide data for the episodes. So episodes may not be recorded when they are actually aired again. (The last actual episodes I recorded were from Thurs 7/17).

Tivo Roamio guide help

I have three Visio TVs with a OTA. I have one that is in the living room hooked up to the tivo roamio. I have 43 channels that come in good but maybe only half them have info on the guide. I have tried forcing the connection but that hasn't worked. I have this same set up for about five months and still the same. My only problem is on my other TVs that is just hooked up to the antenna will show all the info on the show and channels that won't on the tivo. So that tells me that they are available. I am just wondering if there is something that I am not doing. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

Audio Problem

Hi,



I'm having audio problems whit my TiVo HD. I previously had problems with the picture freezing and I replaced all of the capacitors on the PS with the help of the tutorial here at TC.



Now I have no audio sometimes at half of my channels and I know that it's not my source because I have OTA and I put the input on my TV and I did have audio.



Any Thoughts ?

Is Tivo Forcing Recordings?

I've had a Tivo for 2 years, and I have it set to only record shows that I want it to record. Lately it keeps recording Bill O'reilly. I have No season pass for Bill O'reilly and I have No wishlist for Bill O'reilly. When I look in my "To Do" list, it is never scheduled to record. However every day it show up recorded . I'm the only one using this Tivo. So, I can't understand why it keeps recording.

Amazon has removed support for downloading videos to Roamio's, though you can still download to Premiere's and older HD's and Series 3. I'm not sure when this happened but as of now us Roamio owners are out of luck. I'm trying to get a refund for 2 videos I purchased only to find that I can no longer download to my Roamio.

TiVo and Comcast HD Technology Fee

I picked up an HD DTA for a new bedroom TV yesterday. After I activated the DTA, I only received standard definition channels. When I contacted Comcast, they told me I would have to pay a $10 monthly HD Technology Fee to receive HD channels on my bedroom TV. They told me that I have to pay this fee because I don't have a standard Comcast cable box.



My primary box is a TiVo Roamio with a CableCard. Must I really pay an additional $10 fee just to receive HD on a second TV? This policy seems like little more than a blatant money grab from Comcast. Have any TiVo owners had any luck getting this fee waived? Thanks for any help you can provide. Thanks.

Tivo Video Player Native App?

I'm just new to Tivo and have the simple question about a Native App inside Tivo. Are developers allow to create an app that plays videos? Either internally or on your the network.



I just think that this route of using your pc and installing third party products is not ideal. For example I have a WD Live streamer that plays everything on a share or external HD.

TiVo's remote 1-2 switch

Hello folks,



I have a sport bar like setup with 4 Seires 2 boxes, and use 2 remotes: one setup as addresses 1 and 2, and the other as addresses 3 and 4.



Now I bought another remote and try to set it up as 1 and 2, so that I could have 2 remotes that would control the same boxes 1 and 2. And because I already have the boxes set up properly, I only tried to setup the remotes, so I drove away from home and setup remotes by pressing TiVo+Pause and so on. It doesn't seem to work. It just sporadically works on both boxes with either switch positions, solooks like a mess.



My question is - was that my mistake that I tried to setup only the remote? Should I do the full setup like plug off other boxes, etc? Or the remote I bought is defective?
