When will the iOS app be updated for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus?

The current app is scaling to fit the 6 and 6 Plus screen. It looks passable as do most apps that haven't been updated for the newer screens. But there is no comparison to an app that has been updated for the new resolutions, you can see A LOT more on the screen and things just overall look vastly better.

TiVo: when is this update coming?

iOS app, sign in with Mac missing?

When at home if i am signed in with my TiVo account i used to have the option to sign in with my media access key. I no longer have this option. Is this the same for everyone?

issue with amazon prime database

When I use the tivo interface to find a show, I don't see the option of viewing too many things via Amazon prime. I have amazon prime selected as a video provider. If, for example, I search for "peg plus cat" through tivo, then go to episodes, season 1. All of those episodes should be available through prime but tivo doesn't give me the option to view it through amazon. Anyone else seeing this problem?

Mini enumerates Roamios, can see Internet, but won't connect to DVR

I have two Roamio Pros and one Mini (five more to install). I'll call the two Roamios 'Loft' and 'MediaRoom' to keep it clear. The Mini is in the 'Nook'.

The Mini can "see" and enumerate both Pros when you go to the DVR connection menu but has the "no smoking" sign beside them and cannot connect to either.

Yesterday with just the first MediaRoom TiVo present, I created a MoCA network. The Mini could see it and connect just fine.

I added the second Loft Roamio TiVo today. I accidentally first selected "Create a MoCA network", then cancelled that by switching to Ethernet and finally back to MoCA. It now has a coax only, no Cat5 connected at all. And it can connect to the Internet.

So here's the current situation:

1) The MediaRoom TiVo is the MoCA bridge to Ethernet. Everything else is coax.

2) All boxes can get a LAN IP, connect to the TiVo service, it's all great in that respect.

3) You can play a show from one Pro on the other, which uses the MoCA since the Loft TiVo is coax-only. It gets an IP and can conenct to TiVo.

4) The mini sees but won't conenct to either.

5) I have the same media access key on all of them

6) I've forced a service connection on all three (which works), no change.

So I'm stumped. They can all see each other through MoCA, and via MoCA they can all get a LAN IP and see the Internet. But as of today I can't pick a DVR connection.

Any ideas? I'm simply stuck and need your sage-like wisdom.

Thanks!

Dave

Oddity when transferring from Roamio to S3

I've noticed on a few occasions that when sitting at the S3-whatever and I transfer a recording from the Roamio, that when I select a 2nd program to transfer (to begin after the first finishes), I will get a message "Stop/Cancel Transfer" even though this is a new/different show or recording. Obviously, I don't know what "show" is referring to, the 1st one now transferring or the one I now want to transfer.

If I skip (don't cancel) and move on to another show, it will react normally and put it on the todo list to copy later.

This has happened 3 different times. First show transferring, an attempt to transfer a 2nd show will alert "cancel..."

Ideas?

Hulu Plus Audio Output

Just tried using Hulu Plus app. Audio output is only 2 channel. Does it not output 5.1? Netflix does. Am I missing a setting in Hulu?

NBC Cancels "Bad Judge" and "A to Z"

I won't miss either of them.

Now they can send Kate Walsh back to Grey's Anatomy and Cristin Milioti to a better show to be named later.

Does TiVo use folders?

For same title programs, etc.?

No audio on HBO channels

I have a strange issue with HBO channels only. If I select the first HBO channel (511 in the Glens Falls area) and then start surfing through I will get to another HBO channel which displays the video, but with no audio. I can then surf to another HBO channel which can give the same issue, but then if I go back, I MAY get the audio back on the channel without. it happens on all HBO English audio channels, but randomly. If I then surf to a HBO Spanish channel, I then have to manually select the Spanish track to get the audio which would be correct.

That got me thinking, so I selected an English audio HBO channel without any audio as above, selected the Spanish track using Info etc on the remote, which gave me the Spanish track, then Info etc on the remote, selected English, I then got the English audio track working.

This is with a TiVo Roamio s/w 20.4.4aUSA-6-848.

TWC are saying that this is a TiVo issue as I have had the Tuning Adapter replaced and all the signals are correct. They gave me a TiVo log number of another customer who has the same issue and put me through to TiVo. TiVo said that they are aware of a similar issue, but not with HBO and it has been escalated to another team. They can't offer a resolution timeframe.

Does anyone have any idea what and why this is happening?

Thanks,

Dave.

3 days since update and no "problem streaming" errors

It's been 3 days since the TiVo app was updated along with my Roamio Pro to the new versions and I've not had a single "problem streaming" error since. I'm not calling it yet, but it's looking very promising that they might have actually fixed this bug.

Series 3 HD won't boot

My Series 3 won't boot. I get the Powering Up screen for about a minute, then the screen turns white. I have tried disconnecting the external drive, internet cable and input cable, but still get the same result. Is there a way to force it to boot, or is the unit dead from either poor power supply or failed hard disk?

Stuck on "Welcome!": Fix or Sell Broken?

Hi Folks - looking for some help here. After doing a lot of research I'm having a hard time finding an existing thread about this, so I apologize in advance if this is repetitive.

Last night I got the dreaded "Stuck on Welcome! Powering Up..." problem. On reboot I get the all-button flash, then the green light comes on and we don't move anywhere from there.

Spent about an hour on the line with Tivo talking through options and ultimately I decided that after 37 months and the unit having passed its breakeven point vs. typical cable co rates, it was time to go Roamio.

So the question becomes what to do with my existing Premiere. A couple quick questions:

1) Any way to more accurately diagnose the problem with the old premiere? Haven't tried the Kickstart54 testing yet (not sure whether it will work without the orange light) - but I think its more than likely the hard drive.

2) Assuming it is in fact the hard drive, anyone have any perspective on whether it'd be better to replace and upgrade the drive via an upgrade kit prior to selling it, or just put it up as-is? The unit does have Lifetime attached to it.

Help and/or perspective is welcomed. Thank you!

Audio for NFL on Fox

I have Comcast Cable (St. Paul, MN) and a Roamio. The Audio for Fox NFL games is terrible. I don't remember it being so bad when I had the Comcast DVR. On the Roamio I only get the front channels and no subwoofer. It's like listening to AM radio. It doesn't matter if it's live or recorded.

I'm running HDMI direct from the Roamio to a brand new Yamaha Aventage receiver. I don't think it's the receiver because I can change the channel to CBS football and it sounds great with full surround and sub. In fact, regular prime time shows on Fox have the proper surround sound too.

So what gives? Is it Fox, is it Comcast? Is there some disconnect between the audio stream from Fox NFL and the decoding options of my Yamaha?

Does anyone else have this issue?

do the tivo suggestions work on tivo roamio with a tuning adpater?

does the TiVo roamio record TiVo suggestions with a tuning adapter hooked up? My TiVo hd would not record them with a tuning adapter. is the problem with the garbage collation on the TiVo hd fixed on TiVo roamio?

and does the TiVo roamio get so3 errors like the TiVo hd?

3 new TiVo's but cannot stream to one of them...

I have 2 Roamio Plus and 1 Premiere XL4, all on the same account, all on the same subnet, 1 Roamio has setup the MOCA network, the other 2 set as MOCA (no ethernet connected). Without making any changes to my network or account, Roamio A and the Premiere can no longer stream to the Roamio B but can transfer from both (all could previously stream and transfer between each other). Interestingly, both Roamio A and Premiere can stream and transfer between each other. So there is something wrong with Roamio B. Reviewing the Whole Home Advanced menu from Roamio B, it shows Roamio B supports only Live TV and Transfer but not Streaming. Selecting Roamio A under this menu shows only Transfer supported but not streaming. And again choosing the Premiere under this menu shows only Transfer, not streaming.

If I'm controlling the Roamio A or Premiere at their locations, they show streaming and transferring working but not for Roamio B.

I've ensured all TiVo's on the same account, all on the same subnet, no strange characters in their names, restarted all TiVo's, ensured most up-to-date software but Roamio A and Premiere still cannot stream to Roamio B. I have even tried changing the Roamio that created the MOCA network from B to A. But no changes. My RX and TX rates are way above minimum. I have restarted my modern router, etc, etc.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks everyone.

Ancient Aliens new season

Ancient Aliens begins a new 7th season tonight (on the H2 channel, not History). My season pass did not select to record the episode, but it did have next week's new episode in the queue.

Also in the Guilty Pleasure Season Passes category, tonight is the new show by Brad Meltzer called "Lost History", also on the H2 channel following Ancient Aliens. Enjoy! (And Happy Halloween!)

Tivo HD XL (758) with Lifetime

I recently upgraded a Roamio Pro and a Mini so I am trying to move my old PLS Tivos!

Tivo HD XL (TCD658000) w/ Lifetime (screenshot of TSN can be provided)

I will include all of the original cables as well as a new remote and HDMI cable.

I am asking $175 plus shipping. Local pickup can also be arranged in the Northern VA area. I would rather it goes to a good home here than deal with ebay!

I can provide Heatware (72-0) as well as ebay (241-0) feedback if requested.

If I can ever get my mini to stream without errors (sigh) I will also be looking to sell my Premiere XL4 with lifetime, but we shall see!

How to Get Away With Murder - S1E6 - OAD 10/30/2014 - (SPOILERS!)

I liked how the judge's son did the reveal but I guess he is now disowned. I laughed at his failed attempt to fight "bitchy" Connor.

Annalise is credible to me with her crazy "I'll do anything to protect you love" of her philandering husband. I don't relate to and dislike those women but I know them. That is probably why she related to Wes and his girlfriend.

So blondy is sleeping around too. I suspected a now regretted affair with Annalise's husband -- like Kalinda, of 'The Good Wife'.

Fixed Series 3 OLED TIVO!

Just want to say THANKS! to everyone who posts solutions.

Our tivo has had a few problems in the last couple of months.

The 1TB "death star" bit the dust. Thought maybe it was the bulging caps so I replaced all of them. Got the cap list right off the forum.

Put the orginal 250gb back in and it was working OK. I forget exactly why I replaced it, but it wasn't just for more space. Anyway it started rebooting. Did a kickstart 54 and got "Fail 7". Never did find out what the code meant but I figured the drive was hosed. Dragged out the desktop and hooked the drive up and started the WD disk test. It wouldn't even see the drive. Plugged in the new WD 1TB green AV drive and it showed up. So we knew for sure the orginal drive was a brick. Got winMFS and image. I was suprised how fast it set up the new drive. It updated the software on the drive without a glitch. Got the error I knew was coming, did the clear and delete went through the guided setup again and we are back in business!

I was really surpised it didn't delete the cable card info. (Comcast w/motorola cards) They are tied to the MAC addresses in the tuners?

Once again Thanks to everyone.

bad USB ports? Need help with TA

I have (3) Tivo HD and (1) new Roamio Plus. The (3) Tivo HD have been running great for about a year on cable card + tuning adapter. All the cable cards and tuning adapters are Motorola M-card FW 6.25 and Motorola MTR700 FW 1.37. Right now, I am trying to get my brand new Roamio up and running the same way. I am in Tulsa, OK on Cox cable.

My Roamio symptoms are simple: whenever I plug a Motorola MTR700 Tuning adapter into my new Roamio, the roamio doesn't recognize there is a tuning adapter being plugged in. I have tried 5 different cablecard + tuning adapater combos of which (3) are known and working in my current Tivo HD's. The other (2) are my self install kit for the Roamio and the swap unit the technician tried while he was out. The Tivo Roamio reacts the same way to all (5) TA's when inserted: it doesn't recognize the TA and the TA starts to slow flash red. Since it's the TA or USB port that seems to be the issue, the Roamio can't tune to any SDV channels. It gets protected non-SDV channels just fine (ie: A&E, ESPN) but anything that requires SDV can't be tuned because the Roamio doesn't even see a tuning adapter device connected.

If I plug in my Tivo HD's with the new cable card + tuning adapter combo that I just tried on the Roamio, it works fine. All of my Tivo HD's "detect" that the tuning adapter and can tune in SDV channels without problem. I don't get why the cablecard + TA combo works fine in my Tivo HD's but doesn't work in my brand new Roamio Plus.

When I called Tivo to discuss this, they asked me to test if the USB ports can charge. They can charge. I don't know what this tells me but I thought I would write it down in case it was important.

I am stumped. Since my Tivo Roamio doesn't recognize when the TA is plugged in, I have no idea how to go about diagnosing this. Based on what I am seeing, the issue does not appear to be on the cable company's side but I don't know that for sure. If I can't get the Tivo Roamio to recognize the TA, then there is no point in having a Tivo and I'll have to send my new roamio back. I don't want to do that so I hope someone smarter than me can lead me to the promised land. Anyone else seen or heard of this issue?

Quite the night for hot beverages.

Sheldon: Hold on, Doctor. Leonard, where are your social skills? This man is clearly upset. We should invite him in for a hot beverage.

Leonard: He tried to score with Penny.

Sheldon: So have these two, and they're having dinner with us.

Penny: The real question is: What is he doing in your apartment?

Leonard: Oh, he was upset. So Sheldon invited him in for a hot beverage.

Penny: You were okay with that?

Leonard: No. I got upset! And Sheldon made me a hot beverage, too.

HDMI issue on Roamio only, xBox and PS4 are fine

I am installing a new Roamio Pro and a newish receiver, a Denon AVR-2113Ci. Everything works perfectly except the TiVo.

This is on an older (2006 era) NEC plasma. It's mounted in a fancy rotating bookshelf unit that prevents me from (easily) getting the model number.

When the Roamio is sent through the Denon AVR, the TV goes black and issues no warning, indicating its getting a signal. But that's it. The PS4 and the xBox360 work as you'd expect. I've swapped around the inputs to no avail to make sure it wasn't a dead port.

If you connect the TV HDMI directly to the Roamio it also works. Only when sent through the Denon AVR is there any issue.

I did a full factory reset on the Denon.

The xBox and PS4 are running at 1080i and the TV is OK with that, direct or through the AVR. I've set the TiVo to only use 720p or 1080i, all to no avail.

I'd assume my TV is just so old it's got a bug in the HDMI handshake, and while that still could be the case the fact it works with all devices except the TiVo makes me wonder if someone's been down this road and knows the answer.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try?

Vudu app locking TiVo

Starting this to have a place for people to report if they get a Tivo lockup when trying to exit the Vudu app by clicking the Tivo button.

Note, it doesn't always happen for me. Sometimes hitting the Tivo button will exit the app fine, other times it locks the Tivo box.

The box responds to button presses (as the front lights light up), but no button works to exit the app.

New Amazon Instant Video and Vudu Now Available on Roamio and Mini

After forcing a network update, the new Amazon Instant Video and Vudu app showed up under Find TV, Movies, & Videos. I successfully signed into my Amazon Prime account on both my Roamio Pro and my Mini and was able to simultaneously stream Amazon videos from both boxes. Very nice! :)

I do not have a Vudu account (yet) so I did not try it.

20.4.5 Amazon Instant not there

I now have my roamio Pro upgraded to 20.4.5

I still have the old Amazon app..

I called tivo and was advised it would take 24-48 hours

anybody have the same issue.. or is it there

Need help using the Slide Pro dongle on a Roamio

I know very few of you have issues with the built-in RF on your Roamios, but I definitely do. The only solution was to get the Slide Pro RF dongle, and that dongle immediately gave me the excellent reception nearly all of you say your own Roamios provide.

The problem I'm having is that the dongle ceases to communicate with my Roamio after a reboot. It sometimes takes 10 to 20 reboots before the dongle functions with the Roamio. (and I don't like rebooting this often for this purpose). The green light on the dongle flashes with each button press, but the Roamio doesn't respond. Tivo has sent me a replacement dongle, but it's the same situation with both dongles. This is true for the included Roamio remote, as well as the Slide Pro (both are paired simultaneously to one dongle).

So, I'm looking to those of you who happen to use the dongle with your Roamio to let me know if you also run into this problem of the dongle sometimes/often not being properly paired after a reboot. I've tried all the instructions about how to pair the dongle, so that's not likely the problem (since the green light blinks with remote button presses).

Thanks for any feedback from folks who've used the dongle on a Roamio, particularly those who also have the problem, but also from those who don't have this problem.

20.4.5 Release Notes (Premiere)

Here are some of the changes in our 20.4.5 update:

- Fixed some cases where audio was dropped going between full-screen video and menus.

- Fixed an issue related to launching a Web Video Hotlist show found through search.

- Fixed an issue related to occasional lack-of-audio in live TV or recordings.

- Fixed an issue where pressing the LIVE TV button while Netflix was buffering could cause a reboot.

- Fixed an issue where some WishLists weren’t recording on Premium Channels.

- Fixed the slow down of My Shows for those running SD Menus. (This is the same fix that was in 20.4.4b.)

This release does include VUDU and a new Amazon Instant Video app (with access to Prime Instant Video) for TiVo Roamio and TiVo Mini. At this time, I expect both VUDU and the new Amazon Instant Video app to be available on TiVo Premiere in the first half of 2015.

The priority list is still open if you want your Premiere to update soon: http://ift.tt/1k4CXkk

Otherwise, I currently expect the full rollout to happen mid/late November.

—Margret

20.4.5 Release Notes

Sorry for the delay in sending out release notes. I had to finalize my Halloween costume first. Or wait for the Giants to win the World Series. Or wait for a press release to go out. It was one of those three things.

Here are some of the changes:

- There are improvements to streaming over poor connections. It is recommended that iOS users update to the 3.4 version of the TiVo App that was released earlier this week.

- Fixed the slow down of My Shows for those running SD Menus (Premiere only). This is the same fix that was in 20.4.4b.

Oh, and:

VUDU - stream TV shows and movies in beautiful 1080p, with access to your Ultraviolet library! (Roamio and Mini only)

And, since you’ve asked so nicely (for so long):

A shiny new Amazon Instant Video App with access to the Prime Instant Video, also in beautiful 1080p! (Roamio and Mini only)

At this time, I expect both VUDU and the new Amazon Instant Video app to be available on TiVo Premiere in the first half of 2015.

For those that signed up at http://ift.tt/1k4CXkk, and your box has already updated to 20.4.5, I expect the apps to be available this evening.

If you were on the priority list before 9am PT this morning, we’re doing another sweep to authorize boxes for the update. Make a connection after 10:30am PT, and if you can download and install the update before 2pm PT, you should also get the apps today.

If you missed today’s sweep, you should see the apps within 48 hours after your box eventually updates to 20.4.5.

For those not on the priority list, I currently expect the full rollout to happen mid/late November.

Stephen King's Big Driver - Lifetime Movie (Spoilers)

My wife is a huge fan so we watched this TV Movie. First off, I am not a fan of graphic rape scenes. Thank god they followed up the graphic rape scene with a SECOND graphic rape scene. Enough, I get it, she was severely beaten and raped multiple times.

The story was OK, far fetched as far as figuring out the mystery. Lesson one: don't Google people you plan on killing while surfing on your home laptop. Common sense you know. Also, when you plan on shooting someone, the thing about bullets is they travel far and fast, so you don't need to get within an arm's reach of someone from behind. Just shoot first from a safe distance!

Overall it was a pretty bland attempt at a revenge story. There was some supernatural wackiness thrown in that didn't really add much. The end was pretty typical lacking a twist or original outcome.

Unlike "Under The Dome" at least this one ended in about two hours and didn't drag on for two unnecessary seasons.

Tivo Stream, Premier, and Multi Room viewing

I have a Premier and a THX (lifetime)

If I get a stream and connect it to my premier, will I be able to remotely access shows off my THX via MRV?

example; if my THX has a show on it I want to watch, can I transfer it to my premier, and watch it (all remotely?)

Series 2 Cable Card problem

Yes, I know that S2s don't and can't use cable cards, but I'm wondering if my 540 has suddenly forgotten that.

It was supposed to record "Stalker" off of analog Time-Warner Cable channel 9 last night, but View Recording History says it wasn't recorded and here's the explanation it gives:

Quote:

Stalker: "The Haunting" on Wed Oct 29, 10:00 pm WNCT

This program was not recorded because either the TiVo DVR is not authorized for this channel, the program was not purchased, or the program was not available in your area.

The TiVo in question had switched its single tuner to the local PBS affiliate on 13 overnight to record some of their stuff, and it was on 13 this morning, but I tuned it back to 9 with no problem.

I can't find anything online about WNCT having had a signal loss last night.

There are no cable boxes in the house, there are no cable cards, not even in my S3s, it's all plain old-fashioned NTSC analog over coax, so I don't understand what would have triggered that error code and decision not to record.

If it were just temporary loss of signal, well, I've had that happen before and the error code was something about signal not present, nothing about "you didn't spend enough money or don't live in the right location".

I checked the on screen guide and up-arrowed it to last night's listings and "Stalker" is still listed as having been on at 10, so it wasn't some last minute schedule change info.

Any clues? Any guesses?

Can copy protected shows be watched outside of network?

I happen to be away from home without a TV and wanted to watch tonight's world series, so I purchased Tivo Desktop Plus at the advice of the Tivo support rep. Once purchased, installed, patched, media access key and license key applied I found that it doesn't find any videos and says it can't find a Tivo on the home network. That leads me to believe that Tivo Desktop Plus only works when on the same home network as the Tivo device - true?

Next, I see that there is a Tivo Android app, so I install that. It does list shows I've recorded and let's me manage recordings, etc. However, whenever I try to watch something it says I can't because it's copy protected and I'm not on the same home network as my Tivo. I can't think of any shows recorded on Tivo that aren't copy protected, so I assume that I can't use the Android app to watch shows either - true?

IOW, using only Tivo apps, there is no way to watch copy-protected shows recorded on my Tivo while I am outside of my home network - true?

Mixing TIVO Hardware

I got a TIVO Roamio installed by my cable company, WAVE broadband. The DVR box was developed in partnership between TIVO and WAVE. The standard TIVO box has been modified by WAVE to allow using "On demand". The MINI from Wave broadband works with the WAVE Roamio, but I cant get the MINI I bought from Best Buy to work. I want to buy the MINI's to avoid monthly charges. TIVO tech support told me it's a compatibility issue, even tho all the equipment is TIVO. Anyone have experience mixing cable provided TIVO Roamio hardware with other TIVO MINI's you purchased outright and it worked?

TiVo Service Calls - What do you use?

It's been ages since I got my first ever TiVo in in the year 2000, and I've had several models since then (S2, DirecTiVo, TiVo HD, Premiere, Roamio). Makes me wonder, how many people are still using the old phone dial in system to get their TiVo service data?

I remember the old days of having to tell the family not to pick up the phone for like 45 mins when I was trying to get a software update. Fortunately those days are long gone. :)

Resume play not always reliable

I have an issue with a wish list I have set up for Seahawks games. I don't experience this issue with programs that are set up as season passes, just wish lists that are enclosed in folders when you go to watch them.

I will most times start watching the recording about the 2nd quarter. That way I can 30 sec skip between plays. By the time I get caught up to live it is usually half time. At this point I will jump out of this recording and watch something else until the second half starts.

When I return to resume play the recording has returned to the beginning. I have had this happen so many times that I note where I stopped watching so that I can fast forward to that spot without have to find my place.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a work around?

The tale of two TiVos

Information:

• Have two TiVo Premiers connected to the same router with fixed IP addresses

• They are both on the same network as my computer

• Have been working fine for months, seeing each other and able to transfer shows between the two and the computer

• When initially set up I could see “What’s playing” on both TiVos from my computer using a browser

• TiVo #1 (on an HD TV with HD menu) continues to work just fine and I can access it from my computer and it auto transfers shows to my computer.

• TiVo #2 (on an SD TV with SD menu), for the past 2 weeks, can not be reached from my computer or from TiVo #1.

• TiVo #2 still shows TiVo #1 listed under “My devices”. But when you try to access it in that listing it suggests it no longer exists and asks if I want to remove it.

• TiVo #2 can go online just fine and can access online video

• TiVo #1 can go online but only to access TiVo account information and to download program information which it does fine.

• When I look at the IP address for TiVo #1, it is correct but if I try to select the “Change network settings” option I get a message “This option will be unavailable until a scheduled software update occurs at 2 am.” This message has been there for almost 2 weeks.

• When I try to access the menu item “Video on demand” on TiVo #1 it just loops back to the same menu item without going beyond that selection.

• Looking at network configuration, the IP address for TiVo #1 is correct.

• When I look at the Network diagnostics on TiVo #1 and then choose Test internet connection, I get the same message listed above about software update.

• On TiVo #1 both the TCP port test and the DNS test show “Succeeded” although this could be from when it was last working properly.

• TiVo #1 was able to connect to TiVo service to obtain account information and to download program schedules.

• In the My shows menu, TiVo #1 used to list TiVo #2 and my computer as sources below the Recently deleted menu item. Now Recently deleted is the last item in the list.

• Both TiVos are connected to my router using Ethernet over Power and have been for a long time. I have connected TiVo #1 directly to the modem in order to eliminate any issues with Ethernet over Power or Ethernet cable.

I’ve run out of ideas and puzzled by the lingering message regarding “Software update”. When I instructed it do update program information it noted that there was a software update which would go into effect upon restart. It updated something but the problem and the message still exists so I can’t access the Change network settings option.

Any thought or ideas would be appreciated.

Managed to Stream Tivo on Hospital TV with Chromecast and Android App YMMV

This was not simple, but it worked pretty well. And only a couple phones will be able to do it. I have an HTC One M7.

It had several steps:

1) Set up a mobile hotspot as a network for the chromecast.

2) Used the tv app on my phone as a universal remote to be able to switch inputs on the tv

3) Use the chromecast app on my phone to set up screen mirroring

4) Open the tivo app and enjoy

It's not perfect. You can see in the pic that it is a tiny bit cut off, but this made the hospital stay much nicer.

The Flash - S1E04 - “Going Rogue” - 10/28/2014

A complaint about the previous episodes of the Flash was that the villains weren’t that interesting.

With Going Rogue, we meet one Leonard Snart who looks like he isn’t going to be a a one off villain.

I was pleased when I read that Wentworth Miller had been cast as Snart. Seeing his work on Prison Break, I felt that he could give a chilling performance as Snart and I think that he did just that.

Leonard Snart isn’t like Black, Clive Mardon (who’s brother is still running around), or Nimbus who were drunk on power and/or wanted revenge.

Miller’s (and Geoff John’s) Snart is a professional criminal who cooly plans his crimes.

He may not have finished High School and he may not be able to build a freeze ray from scratch but he’s very cunning.

What he is, is professional criminal who’s an observant planner.

And when he sees the Flash, he takes it as a challenge that he needs to step up his game.

Not just step up his game, but build a new gang, starting with one Mick Rory as we saw at the end.

It’s nice to see Felicity visit from Starling City but I thought that it was a little bit of a cop out to have her know Barry’s secret by listening in on his conversation with Oliver.

I would have preferred her to figure it out on her own.

I also liked that she was able to give some helpful advice to Team Flash.

Not as happy with the whole “Cisco guilt trip thing”. I thought that the handling of it was a tad on the ham fisted side.

Good effects this episode as well. I particularly like the sequence when Snart shot the gun at Joe and Barry.

Shout outs included:

Kahndag Diamond Exhibit

Blackhawk Squad Security

Erdell

Oswald Loomis

And did I hear right that was Dexter Myles, the curator of the museum?

Good episode.

Let’s hope the series can keep the momentum going.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. "A Fractured House" (10/28/14) S02E06

We knew Ward couldn't spend the whole season in Coulson's basement.

Also Marvel announced their movie slate though 2019 yesterday. Quite a few of them should have an impact on the show assuming that it's on that long.

Premiere 2-Tuner and mpeg4

I apologize in advance if this has been covered already as in my search I have determined that the 4-Tuner unit is mpeg4 compatible but have not found if the 2-Tuner unit is compatible for sure. Can anyone confirm if the 2-Tuner unit is indeed compatible with mpeg4?

Person of Interest - S4E06 - “Pretenders” - 10/28/2014

Pretenders isn’t a mythology heavy episode. In fact, it’s lighter than a lot of other episodes but I don’t recall the POI writers previously being this meta before.

Reese’s “Man in the suit” has often been referred to “Batman without a costume and a gun” on the Internet (which isn’t a big surprise considering Jonathan Nolan’s involvement) but this time, it was taken further with the introduction of this episode’s number, Walter the insurance nebbish.

Walter’s a pretender as is John and the rest of our team are and Walter also affirms their mission by pointing out that crime went up after “the man in the suit” disappeared.

Sure, Walter’s a fanboy but he’s also a window for us into the POI universe and he figures out “Detective Riley’s secret identity”.

As it turns out, “the Armorer “ was also a mask. One worn by Dominic to further his agenda to expand his criminal empire.

However, it looks like it is also leading to an inevitable collision with not only our Bat team but a woken Elias as well.

(Loved Enrico Colantoni’s performance as well. Don’t forget that Elias wore the “Charlie” mask when we first met him.)

I did laugh at Walter’s (ahem) “appreciation” for Shaw and at “Not my girlfriend.” “Why Not!?” and at Reese and Shaw looking at the gun in awe.

Finch’s trip to Hong Kong would appear to be mythology related, I had thought that he originally went to Hong Kong to talk to the Machine but it was all revealed to be a solo mission to install a tracker on business owner’s Beth’s computer because she has some algorithms that interest Samaritan (and I didn’t miss that Greer didn’t know what Samaritan wanted them for either).

I’ve never seen Finch be this “ends justify the means” before and I find it a little disquieting.

The other question is that is Finch doing this on his own or at the request of the Machine?

90 Shows Mysteriously Deleted this Morning

Today when I checked my Now Showing list on my Roamio Pro it showed 73% of my HD space used. Last night it was at 95%. While it was recent shows, it seems like it would take more than a couple of casual errant button pushes on the remote to make this happen. It did say that the shows were deleted be someone in the household. And I recently did install a TiVo Mini on the kitchen TV where my wife primarily watches and she is not the most technically inclined. Still that seems like a lot of errant deleting.

Anybody else ever experience anything like this or have a possible alternate explanation?

Not so long ago from a TiVo far far away

Back home in Southern California after going on vacation in Canada. Used an iPad to stream my shows from my Roamio while in bed at a B&B. I was ready for it not to work. There was one hiccup while trying to stream a show that was being recorded with two other shows at the time. There were no problems streaming shows that had been completely recorded. The quality of the stream was very good. Like anything else over the internet, reliable networks with good bandwidth on each end are essential.

Will Mini Price drop again?

I just recently got a Roamio basic and i was excited to read all the articles about the mini being sold for as low as $85 in some cases with lifetime service. It seems most of these deals have dried up. The best I can see right now is at Frys.com for $119. With Tivo holding steady on the mini with product lifetime service at $150 do you think we will see any of these deals come back either now or for black friday?

Gold Rush Season 5 Thread

Is anyone still watching this show with me?

I admit I get very annoyed a lot of times, especially when they feature he Hoffmans, but I still keep coming back and watch every week.

This season looks interesting as they have brought Tony Beets in as a regular, and they are following him in an attempt to restore and use an old Dredge, I hope they can make that old thing work again, that would be really cool to see.

Warranty

New to TiVo and wanted the opinions of the veteran Tivo owners here. Do you folks think it is wise to buy the extended warranty? I normally don't get them but thinking this might be worth doing. What are your thoughts?

Can Mini create a Moca network

I know you can use your Roamio to create a moca network if you have a ethernet connection. But can you do that with a mini. If I can an ethernet connection for my Mini, can a Moca network be created or does that just work with the Roamio?

"New Only", I can’t trust you

Hmm, that’s funny, I’m pretty sure there should be a new Adventure Time in here somewhere. [Check History] Let’s see, “Ghost Fly”, new, wasn’t recorded why? “Not New”. WHAAAA?

I’ve never trusted “Record New Only”, as over a long history of three models of TiVo, situations like the former are all too common. Thankfully, Adventure Time does a nice job of repeating the newisodes all week.

…back to “New and Repeats” with you, young man.

Record one channel while watching another

Hi all,

I have already looked all over the internet and asked tivo about this. I have the Tivo Series 2 which I believe is a single tuner. I know that it is impossible to record one show while watching another. I have satellite tv - Dish network. The receiver I have for this is DISH ViP 222 Duo HD Receiver. I was wondering if there is a way to hook the tivo up to the 2nd tuner? I don't know much about the setup of the satellite. If this is possible could you please let me know how I can set it up. Thank you in advance.

Kindle Fire 6 can only stream SD content

Hey guys, I have a brand new Kindle Fire 6 (8GB model) and was excited to see the Tivo app in the Amazon App Store.

Unfortunately it turns out that I can only stream stuff that was recorded in SD. Codec problem? Bummer. I hope there's a fix in the works.

Finally entering the realm of HD. Need to make PyTivo changes?

MoCa network seems connected - but no

Just connected a 6-tuner Roamio to a mini with coax, and on the Roamio network status it says "Ethernet + MoCa" and in the "MoCa details", it says the network is "up" and I have 2 nodes. When I unplug the mini, the network is "down" and 0 nodes. So, there's something between them. But I can't get through the mini guided setup. Either an N02 or an N07 error - basically router not found. I work in a Corporate environment, and the IT staff is supernaturally unhelpful in every way. So, hopefully I won't have to mess with the router or anything like that - any thoughts?

I'm using a MoCa setup because IT gave me one IP address for the TiVo and I was lucky to get that - so Ethernet Internet connection is pretty much not possible for anything but the Roamio itself.

Huge FCC rule change could make internet TV a reality

http://ift.tt/1tHtJP9

Quote:

As far as FCC chair Tom Wheeler is concerned, there should be no difference between cable, satellite, and internet TV providers, so long as they're all offering the same service. "Twenty-first century consumers shouldn’t be shackled to rules that only recognize 20th century technology," Wheeler writes in a blog post today. Likewise, the rule change would also mean that current cable networks remain regulated the same way should they move online.

If I were TiVo I would try to be a real player in this field. What will be missing is a high end delivery mechanism - something more than what the standard streaming box is able to deliver.

TiVo has the horsepower to compete with XBone and PS4 and the design and infrastructure to deliver a consumer friendly product. I am not suggesting that TiVo try to become a content provider, but they should definitely look for early partnerships.

Amazon tivo purchase

Can month to month service be transferred to roamios bought from Amazon? they would be cheaper than the upgrade pricing from Tivo and transferring the service from the current premieres and allow us to take our time switching out the tivos.

Deal on Roamio Lifetime Subscription?

I bought my TiVo Roamio and 2 x Minis last year in November.

At the time I did not get a lifetime subscription on any of them.

When I saw that TiVo is now selling the Mini for $150 with the subscription I called last month and tried to upgrade my Mini's for $50, but failed.

I then saw an add offering a Roamio lifetime subscription for $399.99 and called once again.

I told the agent I wanted to upgrade my Roamio for $399.99 and my Mini's for $50/each.

He reluctantly said he could do the deal Minis, but the Roamio discount was only for existing users so I would need to pay the full $499.99.

I went ahead and upgraded the mini's but not the Roamio.

My contract is up in a few days and I plan to keep my Tivo's for at least few more years.

For $399.00 the payback is 27 months, but $499.99 is 33 months and that may be pushing it.

Has anyone been able to finagle a deal on the lifetime?

Tuning Adapter?

Roamio Basic

I have Starter TV with TWC. (Channels 2-22) Have a CC & TA installed also. Do I really need a TA with this channel lineup? I have no need for their Guide and of course it won't do On-Demand.

Also, is there a way to mark a channel as a "favorite" while viewing that channel? Still learning the TiVo.

TiVo iOS App updated to 3.4

Not sure if this is new to the 3.4 iOS app, or TiVo software 20.4.5 (or a combination of both or neither), but for the first time ever, I was getting 7 dots of quality on a stream going from my home to my workplace wifi.

Disclosure: both locations are Comcast internet accounts and I reside less than a mile from my work. I have a Roamio plus at home, wired with Cat5 to my router and was sending to an iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.

CableCARD - Host id and Data id are both missing

I recently had to change cablecards due to changing accounts. Once I received the new cablecard I performed a guided setup per the instructions on Tivo's website. However, as soon as I insert the cablecard all it shows is the CableCARD is inserted and the diagnostic screen does not appear at all. After viewing the conditional access and cablecard status screens and compared it to the info found on TiVo’s website I knew something was wrong. Here is what I received on both screens.

Conditional access

Con : yes

val: I 0x1c

auth : xs

cci: 0x00 ?

Cablecard status :

Unit address shows

0x317E1CCCD0

049-21158-16656-124

Both the host and data ids are missing and I have no clue as to what the problem is. Heck, the troubleshooting shows absolutely nothing for XS under auth. I have a TiVo Premiere XL4 with a Motorola CableCARD on TWC. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Tuning adapter(s) Cox Gulf Coast

Last week I purchased a TiVo mini and retired my TiVo Premier from service. The TiVo mini is connected to my Roamio Plus via MoCa.

After running the new mini for two days to make sure it would work I returned the CableCard and Tuning adapter for the Premier to the Cox store. When I returned to the house the Tuning adapter for the Roamio had stopped working (blinking instead of solid green light). Less than ten minutes passed since returning the other CableCard and Tuning adapter.

I called Cox and they said everything looked fine on their end but asked me to go back to the store and swap out the tuning adapter. A week later, and four tuning adapters and two cablecards down the road I am only receiving about a third of the SDV channels.

I've also had two contracted Cox techs visit the house, they've both said "Sorry I don't know anything about TiVo's"

Any ideas?

Thank you

Brent

Why are VoD pay options now the default instead of just Record?

tl;dr

I want the 'Record' option to once again be the default first option always since, you know, that's why I bought a Tivo.

--------------------------------

If my Roamio is what everyone else is seeing now after updating, I'd think there are more then a few people peeved at this change.

I don't use or care to even see pay options. I pay a monthly fee to Tivo, and yet still have had to put up with the ever-increasing bloat of ads, pay options and any trick they can come up with to get you to spend more money.

To the point ...

I record a lot of shows from the weekly program schedule, like movies and shows in the next few days which are not season passes.

How can I configure my Roamio to once again show 'Record' as the default option instead of all that VoD crap now stuck in front of it? I could not find any option to disable all pay/VoD options which I don't have and won't use.

Why wasn't this junk added down the menu list anyway instead of the very first default option? You don't change the long-established muscle-memory default like that, except when purposely trying to weasel into people's habits. And it isn't even consistent, because it keeps changing depending on whether that particular show is VoD-able or not as to if the option is there (and first).

Entering a PIN as protection against accidentally charging me isn't what I mean; I want VoD options either not showing at all or at the very least not the default since I will never, ever use them.

RCN TiVo Q work with online bought TiVo Mini?

Hi,

I have a question I reached out to RCN through the online chat and was informed that if I bought an TiVo Stream or TiVo Mini through Amazon or TiVo it would not work with the TiVo Q I have through RCN. However, reading some of your threads it seems like it will work? Could someone please help confirm this before I buy one?

My set-up:

Cable/internet wall port splits and connects directly to Tivo Q and to cable modem. Then cable modem connects to router which also is connected to Tivo Q.

So I want to set up a TiVo mini in my other bedroom which has a cable port that works I had the installation guy check (but no cable box). If I set up a mini in this room and plug it into that port will it work on the MoCa network from RCN and be able to watch recorded shows on the Q? Or is it like the RCN person said that I need to rent/pay for a TiVo Mini through RCN. (Also if not through cable port will it work through ethernet port?)

Thank you for the help! First time on the forum.

Tivo desktop

so for whatever reason Tivo Desktop on both of my pc's won't run. Both hang up and goes into Not responding state.

I know that there are alternatives, but have never explored them.

Any suggestions?

Which slingbox should I use?

I'm looking for a solution to stream my TV and recorded shows on my Tivo outside of the home. I have a series3 HD with lifetime. I would like to use a slingbox with it. (I live alone so no worries about disturbing someone's TV when I use it outside of the house).

Any ideas of what slingbox model to use? I will be watching with an iPad 4, mostly. Cheaper, the better. I don't really care about any other features other than watching with iPad. I don't need it to use wifi either, as I can hook it up to my ethernet. Thanks.

Tivo To Go truncated files - still? Really?

I have a Tivo Premiere connected to an OTA antenna, and with some frequency I get recordings that will not transfer in their entirety. I last ran into this on three of seven of Ken Burns' "The Roosevelts". They are all close to 9Gb on the Tivo, and one download clocked in at 896 Mb (about 10% on the show). There is definitely a glitch in the recording at that point. If the hardware can skip past the glitch and resume, silly me but I think the TivoToGo server can do that as well. I think the first reports of this stupid bug are over six years old, thanks for all of the support on this, Tivo. What's truly sad is that the transfer is done via standard HTTP, so Tivo has supplied an HTTP server that thinks too much about the data in the stream and errors out instead of letting the download proceed.

I am aware of the kmttg software and am as I write this downloading from a pause point past the glitch and it's going OK for the moment. But I remain annoyed that a key (to me) feature of this platform can't get what should be a reasonable bug fix after all this time.

How to Get Away with Murder- "We're Not Friends" 10-23-2014 (SPOILERS)

I guess folks aren't as interested in this show as initially thought. ;)

This was sort of a blah episode. Run of the mill case of the week IMO.

I'm getting officially a bit tired of the whole bonfire stuff and flashbacks. Let's wrap things up and move on please Miss Shonda and crew.

As is the norm on the show, Conner conveniently uses his gay powers to get some key info for the case. That was IMO a totally laughable scenario.

Not giving up on the show yet, but I'd like to see them tame some things and get on with others.

Pandora keeps cycling through songs

Has anyone else has any issues with Pandora lately? I'm having an issue where Pandora continually cycles through songs without actually playing them. It will show a song, then go blank, then show another song and then go blank. It doesn't even start playing the songs.

Nothing but lights

I have a Tivo Premier (basic 2 signal input cable card) that is about 4 years old. The unit was making a loud noises like a fan or HD wasn't right for a few days so I unplugged the unit overnight to let things cool down then powered it back up. NOTHING on TV screen. Unit has two red lights, a blue light an amber light and a green light all on (Not blinking). Any ideas of problem and repair solutions?

How to connect 10/100 or Gigabit Ethernet switch with internet

Recently i brought a 10/100mbps Gigabit Ethernet switch at Router-Switch.com. Is it enough to connect desktop pc and PS4 to my router or if I need to instead of a gigabit switch? I simply want a solid connection to the internet. Thoughts?

Add an app to home networking- Ideas?

Can a few of you share some ideas with me on what Apps you have added to the Apps and Games area in TiVo Central? I've been a TiVo owner/subscriber for about 13 years and, maybe not so much in the beginning with the S2's but now with the Premiers, I have a feeling I am using these devices at maybe 25% of their capability. We have four machines, 3 Premiers and 1 S3 and aside from having them all networked for streaming and transferring purposes, and at the risk of sounding like a 13 year old, I really haven't explored what other cool stuff can be done.

Can you save season passes and recordings when replacing hard drive?

I have a Tivo Premiere XL and it is occasionally stuttering and even locking up for minutes at a time. After reading about that symptom, I ran the Kickstart code 54 hard drive S.M.A.R.T. tests and it shows "Fail 7" on a couple of the tests. Tivo support doesn't seem to know what that specific error means other than my hard drive is failing. So, I need to replace my hard drive.

Does anyone know if there is a way to save/copy your season passes and existing recordings so that they will all be present on a new hard drive?

Was CSI on Sunday 10/26 in Central time zone?

It was scheduled for 9:30p Central, football went 1/2 long so it would have started at 10p Central, but my local news came on at that time instead.

Guided Setup?

I'm replacing our router and switch.

Currently our Pro is connected to an Ethernet switch that is being replaced.

One of our minis is connected to the router that is being replaced.

My plan was to cut power to:

Roamio Pro

Minis x2

Replace router

Replace switch

Power up the Pro, then the Mini's after the Pro is going.

Should I run the Pro and Mini's through guided setup again at this point?

Appreciate any feedback/opinions.

How to turn off dolby surround encoding?

How do I turn off dolby surround encoding? I have a TivoHD but I'd like to know the answer for other models as well.

Devices that handle dolby digital typically have "stereo" and "surround" options. Stereo is normal 2 channel (for two speakers) and surround is 2 channel with dolby encoding (for a dolby pro logic decoder). I don't see any options like this on my Tivo.

Dolby surround encoding can be recognized from the weird phasey sound it produces when played back with two speakers.

TiVo Mini Composite A/V Cable Issue

I purchased on eBay what looks like a standard composite A/V cable to hook up a TiVo Mini to an older SD TV. The description says it should work. However, for the cable to work properly the red connector has the video feed. The audio is coming from the yellow and white connectors. ??? I'm not sure what to make of this. Is the Mini plug non-standard? Anyone else seen this problem? Should I be concerned?

Anyone loaded TiVo app on FireTV?

Just wondering if anyone has tried loading the TiVo app on a FireTV to see if it will allow streaming to a TV. I assume even if it loads you'll get an error about HDMI out not being supported but if anyone has one it might be worth a try.

Premier and tuning adapters

I have had a Tivo Premier for about 5 months now with no problems til lately, when I lost about 30 channels (code V52). Cable guys say I need a tuning adapter, because of a "digital switch" (going full digital). After 2 hours today, the cable tech never could get the TA to be recognized. About an hour after he left, the TV screen had a message "tuning adapter installed". I figured, GREAT...here are all my channels. Well it seems some of the channels that were off have come back in-but not all of them. While the tech was here, he asked how old my Tivo was, I told him the Premier is not an old model. He said that some of the older Tivos require 2 tuning adapters. Has anyone heard of using 2 TAs? And could that be what's causing only some of my channels to return?

Transition off Premere

This summer my Premiere (2 tuner, got it the first few months it was out years ago) started making a loud grinding sound. It is quite worrisome and I think the machine could go any day.

I'm considering this Romeo upgrade program where I can keep my old subscription rate (from even before I got the Premiere so it is low) and upgrade to a Romeo Plus.

But, I have a LOT of unwatched shows on the premiere from this fall's new shows. Just haven't had time to watch. Do I have to keep the cable card going on that machine until I get caught up? Or do I cancel the cable card?

What steps do I do for transition.

Also, will my old IR remotes from the premiere work on the Romeo? (I have a few remotes I use but Romeo is RF only?)

The Good Wife - "Old Spice" (S6 E6) - 10/26/2014

All of this and now we have Lockhart/Gardner seemingly replaced by Florrick/Agos/Lockhart. It's almost as if they've put them in the position of a reboot by reusing the original set.

I like Linda Lavin, but I don't like her character. It's not so much who she's playing, who's supposed to be disliked, but the way she's playing her. It almost seems as if Lavin isn't comfortable in that role. Perhaps that's just the way the character is coming across to me.

I was amused by the comment near the end that the F, A, and L keys were missing from the keyboards. It was an interesting throwback to what happened when George W. Bush entered the White House to find that the W keys were damaged or missing.

Suggestion: progress bar less obtrusive on left side for sports scores

The Tivo progress bar (when fast forwarding a show) obscures the sports score boxes. The most frustrating part is that it is the TIVO logo that makes one of the scores not viewable. It is not even the green progress bar that is blocking the scores.

It would be great if this is adjusted somehow. For long sports recordings where the score is unbalanced, I often fast forward until it is more interesting. I have to stop fast forwarding, view both scores, then fast forward again.

FireTV stick

I snap ordered one of these. No idea if it's going to be possible to run the TiVo interface on one, but for $19, it's a low risk investment for something that will do things that my various other media devices won't (in this case, the Amazon Prime Music streaming and Kindle Fire screen mirroring).

Anyone have any thoughts? I mean, if there's even a 10% chance this thing can someday stream from my TiVo via a fire app, it's worth every penny. It would let me skip buying a TiVo Mini for a rarely used TV. Like, one in a workout room or the kid's playroom.

Roamio suggestions for channels I don't get

I have a Roamio pro and noticed that I had a suggestion (on the little boxes up on top of Tivo Central) to watch the Tennis channel, which I do not get and its turned off on the channel list.

Is this a sponsored thing so I have no control?

Streambaby Push

I have tried searching for the answer before posting this thread. I have streambaby working and can stream .mkv files perfectly. I am trying to push files to my Roamio so I can view them on my minis. I have converted the .mkv files to .mp4 and .wmv and when I try to push them streambaby says Push Failed.

Where am I going wrong?

Take your shows with you: Portable DVD size unit question.

Ok, first and foremost, sorry for the weirdness of the title... I couldn't come up with anything better but maybe that's a good thing since the title may peek interest.

So, I will be starting a new job soon and it will have a good bit of downtime. Well, I have a lot of shows I need to catch up on to free space on the unit however I wont have as much time at home to do the catching up.

Since the new job will allow some "free time" I would like to watch some of the shows when I wouldn't be busy dealing with customers and this got me to thinking.

Is there something nice that's not as bit as a laptop that I can transfer shows to and watch them on later like some sort of tablet or small netbook or something ?

Please post links to items you suggest and why you feel it would be a nice option to consider, Ty.

Edit: I know this may bite me in the ass a tad since all my shows are HD... but if I'm not mistaken, and I hope I'm not, whatever I did / do try to watch the shows on should scale to screen with little to no issues.

Video Output Setting

Hi,

I have my 1st TiVo, Roamio Pro. Had Cox HD DVR for years. I use HDMI to connect TiVo.

I would like to set TiVO to NOT convert broadcast video format. My 16x9 TV does up-convert them just fine. I watch mostly HD channels; 1080i or 720p & rarely SD channels 480p. Used to be 480i when analog, b4 the mandatory digital TV conversion. 1080p is limited to Blu-ray discs so far. So, my TV handles all 5 formats.

My TiVo Video Output setting is currently 1080i. I read:

“How to Set the Video Output Format on Your DVR”

http://ift.tt/1rJBq1O

I wanted to change it to “Native” but, that is not an option despite the above TiVo support article. “Native: The box sends all video in its original broadcast format, with no conversion. Native mode is recommended if your TV supports all four formats.”

I read the TiVo Roamio Guide pg. 62

http://ift.tt/1zyF4V3

“ Video output formats”

“If you are using an HDMI® cable to connect your TiVo Roamio to your television, the TiVo Roamio will automatically set the optimal video output format for your TV. You can also set the output format automatically by selecting ‘Auto Detect’ from the Video Output Formats screen.”

I was unable to set “Auto Detect.” The info button gave more info & suggested to check each format your TV supports. I cannot seem to change it from the default “1080i”

I think having TiVo set to 1080i means that when I tune to a 720p channel, TiVo converts the signal to 1080i. How can I set the TiVo to output the video format that is broadcast? I want my TV & not TiVo to do any conversion.

Thanks,

Steve

Homeland 405 - "About a Boy" (10/26/14)

As I've said before, and many folks here agree, "Homeland" deserves episode threads (as per the forum rules) so here is the thread for the latest episode, "About a Boy".

Good thing Carrie was busy "recruiting" her brains out, as Saul dodged a drone if Quinn had his way!! I did not see his airport abduction coming.

I am really liking Fara!! She is gutsy, but I fear for her safety.

FYI Moce can be your entire home wired network option

I thought this was interesting.

Something I never considered or realized.

I use MOCA adaptors for my tivo roamio basic models. For the wired network connection, so I can share and transfer tivo recordings between tivo units.

Using WiFi only failed due to poor wifi speed between the tivo's, and a transfer of just one 2-hour movie took 12+ hours.

So I went Moca for the tivo's. I thought this Moca thing was only to add wired network to the tivo's. But that can also offer a solution for network to the entire house.

Using Moca into a gigabyte network switch, can not only be used for the tivo, but any networked device with wired input. Computers, laptops, TV's, Xbox, PS4 gaming. It works for everything!

My ISP speed is 50 mbps, but using my routers wifi I was testing at 10 in rooms far away from the router.

Going wired gave me near the 50 my IPS provided.

I was considering having the whole house professionally hard wired for network connection throughout.

Then I tried using my MOCA output to my computer and tested at 40mbps. A lot snappier than the 10 I was getting using only wifi.

So I hooked a network switch to the MOCA out, and ran cable to the TV, computer, Tivo roamio, PS4, all devices in the room from the switch.

What a huge difference in speed.

And without the cost of professionally hard wiring the entire house.

I had believed Moca was just for the Tivo, since this was my first experience and knowledge of Moca.

Not any more.

Using Moca can supply high speed wired network to every networked device using the TV cable.

My little FYI.

Does going OTA and back save cablecard pairing?

If I rerun guided setup with an antenna hooked up to my Roamio basic in place of my cable feed, but leave the Cablecard installed to try it out, then go back to cable doing guided setup again, will it save my Cablecard pairing?

Roku as a replacement for Tivo Mini

I think this is a forlorn request but I'll make it anyway: I just purchased my first Tivo, a Roamio Plus. I have TWC. TWC has made a Roku channel available for live and VOD streaming. The picture quality is extremely good. My choice with the Tivo is to buy a $150 unit + tax + service.... or use an iOS/Android device. The streaming quality - compared to other streaming services I've used - is pretty appalling (it's been horrible and unreliable). Really hoping Tivo will bite the bullet and deliver a Roku channel.

Right Virtural Channel, Wrong Digital Channel

Right Virtural Channel, Wrong Digital Channel....

Technically TiVo is using the word "Frequency" when more accurately they should be using "Digital Channel".

New Detroit OTA Channel 14.1 (WHNE) is correct in the channel list and in the guide. What is wrong is that that tivo is using the wrong "frequency" for this channel. The correct frequency for channel 14.1 is frequency 20, but tivo is using 14 as evidenced by >TiVo Central >Settings > Channels >Signal Strength-Antenna. This page shows: "Channel 14.1 WHNELD Frequency 14" when it should show: "Channel 14.1 WHNELD Frequency 20". Because of this frequency error, the TiVo is trying to tune in Channel 50.1 WKBDDT, which is already on Frequency 14.

I tried to report this to the "Tech" at tivo, but they have no idea what the difference is between Virtural and Digital channels. He kept telling me that there is no difference and that TiVo doesn't support antennas.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

follow my favorite NFL team issue

I want to "follow my favorite team" in Find TV, Movies and Videos- browse TV and Movies-sports-follow your favorite team. All I get is "there are no currently items to display" on all teams selected. I have repeated guided setup, rebooted and connected to TIVO. Am I the only one or is this an issue? Thanks for any help!

Youtube on my roamio keeps freezing on playback.

It's happening on all videos. Video will play for 10 seconds or so and then freeze for like 5-10 seconds and then resume playing for another 10 seconds or do and then freezes again.

I have Verizon FIOS with 85mb down. So it's not my connection.

This is very frustrating.

Sudden Change in Tuner Behaviour

post error

Transferring Stream

I have a Stream that I am no longer using. I want to give it to my daughter who just purchased a basic Roamio. It looks like all I have to do is log into my Tivo account and deactivate it and then give it to her so she can re-activate it on her account as if she just bought it in a store. Is that all that is required or do I have to call Tivo and authorize it over the phone so they can move it to her account?

Loosing "ADD ON PACKAGE" channels only??

I have a "TiVo Premiere-4 and TIVO Roamio BASIC (Both are Four Tuner with M-Cable Card + Switched Video Adapter)" and for some reason I keep loosing authorization of only one of the programing packages from my local "COX" system titled "THE VARIETY PACK" (call/digital channel numbers are 2208 thru 2290) which happens to include BBCA-HD?!? This condition just started happening in late August, the Premiere has been in service since March 2014 (eBay purchase) and the Roamio (Refurbish direct from TIVO) was just installed this past week.

It seems to mainly happen on Saturday night around 7:45PM CST <It has happened at other random times, but like clock work/weekly for the Saturday night time> (or just before 'Dr Who' starts) so that this means that the program(s) do not record..!!

I get one of the following conditions / errors: {Paraphrased if not listed as on screen}

(1) Contact provider channel not authorized.

<call CSR and they '''re-ping'' account>

(2) Unable to tune week signal, contact provider.

<call CSR and they test from their end and all signals test strong>

(3) Black screen with no on screen message

<go into cable card settings and it shows a signal of 96% on all four tuners?!?>

This error condition lasts on all of this packages channels from 20 minutes to 45 minutes, when the error condition clears up. All other channels / packages that I subscribe to work just fine! As the COX CSR's are telling me that it is testing and working good, and when a tech comes to my home to check signal strength all is working well.

Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this issue?

Tivo Problem or Cable Problem?

I posted this on tivo.com because I completely forgot about this site. It's been years since I had any real problems but that appears to have changed.

Within the last week, I have been having problems with cable channels on one of my Series 3 DVRs. I will tune to a cable channel and within 5-10 minutes, the signal drops out and the screen goes blank. My other TV with same type of DVR and cable card has no problems. I can watch network channels, CBS, NBC, no problem. I called Cox and they tried to reset the cable card but nothing happened. She said that the card was not receiving any signal and needed to change out the card. I did that today and called and had it authorized. Still the same problem but now there is no picture at all on the cable channels. I restarted the TiVo and tried to get through Guided Setup but it stopped responding during the last stage of trying to contact and download information from TiVo. I had to unplug the DVR, plug it back in, it got stuck on "Almost there. Just a few minutes more..." It is now back to the Getting Setup Info screen again.

I have an Sata drive attached to this Tivo box but that should not matter, right? There is also a tuning adapter.

Sounds like the TiVo box? Ugh, all my lost recordings if this is true.

Purchasing Cable Card??

Over the years that I have had TiVo, I have been paying between $1.10 to $1.50 monthly for each able card that I need. Over all, this is not a huge dollar amount and not really worth loosing sleep over. However, I recently came across some eBay auctions that listed Motorola Multi Stream Cable cards for about $18.00 each. If you were to buy the cable card, that would give you a pay back period in the range of 1 to 1.5 years.

I am wondering if anyone has had any recent success buying their cable card and also getting it activated on their cable provider?

I have Comcast cable service and 4 TiVo boxes. I would like to get rid of my $1.50 per month per cable card for a total of $6.00 savings.

Doctor Who "In The Forest of the Night" (10/25/14, Spoilers)

So, another episode with absolutely rubbish science. Does Moffat know that part of science fiction is, you know, *science*?

Besides that, I was frankly bored through the majority of this episode. There seemed to be endless moments of wandering around aimlessly with absolutely nothing going on. Even the few moments of action weren't all that interesting.

Frankly, another awful episode from a rather awful season. I hate saying that, but it's amazing how I used to try downloading episodes as soon as they were uploaded after broadcast in the UK. Now, I don't even care to watch it live on BBC America... I eventually watch it later, if I get around to it. *sigh*

Activate TWC Cable Card after Changing hard drive?

anybody have a problem where you get a message to start service after changing the hard drive in a Tivo Roamio?

HELP (MoCa setup)

I got my TiVo Pro and Mini and I'm going on the 5th day with no luck having MoCa to work properly with the mini, even with tech support, here's my early TiVo life;

1. Purchased my Pro and Mini, cable card and tuning adapter should be available by TWC within two days.

2. TiVo and Mini all set up in it's proper locations waiting for the cable card and tuning adapter.

3. Cable card and tuning card picked up, cable card inserted, the tuning adapter plugged in and all the cable wires connected but TiVo doesn't work properly, I called tech support and was told that I need a splitter that's 2.4 GHZ or more, headed out to BestBuy to pick up a 2.4 GHZ splitter, got home and switched out the old splitter to the new one recommended, remind you I'm in Hawaii and the time difference is four hours behind PST, even after using the new splitter, I still can't get MoCa to work or the mini, tech support is now closed.

4. Called tech support and the tech asked how I have my set up, told her I had to relocate the modem and router next to the TiVo as recommended on the first day, she told me " no that's not right, go ahead and put your modem and router back in your office ", modem and router returned to my home office, tried to connect TiVo and that didn't work, she put me on hold to inquire and then returns back on the phone and said " I'm sorry you need to put back your modem and router next to the TiVo ", again we tried to make TiVo work and that still didn't work, put me on hold again and comes back to say, " you need another splitter to act as a amplifier ", and when you get the second splitter, you need to connect the cable wire from the wall into the first splitter and then use a short cable to connect the second splitter, from the second splitter you need to connect the modem, tuning adapter and TiVo and that should work.

5. Headed back to BestBuy and purchased another splitter, got home and reconnected all the wires as stated by the previous tech, adjust the TiVo settings and that still doesn't work, tech support is now close, so I have to wait another day which will be the 6th day.

HELP HELP HELP me set up my TiVo and Mini, if anyone knows how to make my TiVo work and mini, I'd really appreciate it - I have all the basic RECOMMENDED splitters and cables, I just need HELP.

Roamio OTA RF Sensitivity is Disappointing

What is your experience with sensitivity between antenna capable TIVO's?

Been a TIVO owner since the first model. Now experimenting with cutting the cord. My Series 3 HDXL works well OTA but alas is only 2 tuners and doesn’t stream. So I bought a Roamio OTA today. Its reception RF sensitivity is definitely lower. It studders and pixelates where the HDXL did not. For example signal strength for CBS is 50 vs 63 on the HDXL. (I know the signal strength between units is relative and may not be directly comparable.) I may have to return it… will keep experimenting. I live in a condo so I cannot improve my antenna setup. :(

Android Out of Home Streaming

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and a Kindle Fire HDX 7" tablet. Streaming works great on both when I am in home. When I ran streaming setup I checked the box to enable out of home streaming.

Now I am at my son's house in a different city and I can't get streaming to work at all on either device. When I login to my tivo.com account I can see the name of my Roamio DVR but when I try to go to My Shows it says "Information for this screen is unavailable, because your Tivo box cannot be found on this network. Check your box and network connections, then try again".

Then, if I go to setup and choose Streaming Setup, there is a checkbox for "Setup in-home streaming" but the checkbox for "Setup out-of-home streaming is not there". The same thing happens on my phone and tablet.

Has anyone been able to get out-of-home streaming to work on any Android device?:(

A Roamio, a Mini, a Netgear Router, and an Airport Express

I'm trying to fit the pieces I have here while waiting for apple to update the airport extreme to usb3.

So it's a Netgear WNR2000v2, which is g/n, but only one at a time. There is a brother 5370dw which is b/g, so pulls the whole world down to g. There is no option of connecting it by wire.

I would prefer to have the WAN come into the airport, plug the netgear into it, and then the roamio & mini into the netgear. This leaves the tivo & roamio happy, n for the laptops, ipads and phones, but no talking between the printer and the laptops.

I assume that there is some way to turn the netgear into a simple pass-through for the wired connections--but will this run into the problem of minis not liking switches? (and I don't even remember what it's called; I just know that I used to run into it during other setups).

At the moment, I have the airport plugged into the netgear, which lets me have wireless n, but not talk to the printer on the wireless netgear.

There is a cat5 running from the living room with the roamio and WAN to the bedroom with the mini.

Is there a sane way to handle this until apple puts usb3 in?

Guru Guides aka Collections missing?

I have a Tivo HD that I've been happy with and the drive started to get a little glitchy. I didn't see any real big reason to buy a Roamio and another lifetime subscription (it would be my third) so I just bought a new hard drive from DVR_Dude with TiVo pre-installed.

Now I've setup all my SP's and Wishlists and I don't see any way to setup Guru Guides. I've searched high and low and haven't seen any mention of S3 users losing that capability. In fact the Tivo website still has a FAQ page regarding Guru Guides and how they work.

http://ift.tt/1xp697L

Did Tivo remove Guru Guides/Collections from S3 users?

The Amazing Race: OAD 10-24-2014: "Morocc'and Roll"

Wow, the bicycle girls (Kym & Alli, Kym & Alli, Kym & Alli - gotta remember names) showed that the last leg wasn't a fluke. I felt for Keith & Whitney, but they appeared to be well and truly doomed even before finding they were U-Turned.

I was hoping the dentists (Misti & Jim, Misti & Jim, Misti & Jim) would be forced to use their save, though. The more I think about that, the less I like it. Too powerful.

Still getting used to TAR being on Friday which means watching on Saturday. Good for viewing, bad for internet conversation.

TiVoHD had a mind of it's own overnight...

Somehow I overnight lost not only the local channels in my guide (FiOS VHO1, or N. Texas), but lost them in the channel listing as well (unchecked). Don't know how this happened since I haven't been in the menu in quite some time. It would not have been a pretty picture if scheduled recordings hadn't recorded since the channels weren't selected in the menu.

Great Performances: Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga Cheek to Cheek

If you can pick this up at a later showing on PBS or on demand, GET IT!

It's GREAT! They had 2 great bands and an orchestra with lotsa strings.

Gaga looked to be trying to channel Cher so much with outfits, she sang a ballad version of "Bang, Bang."

She got the emphasis wrong on "Lush Life," but she has the:up: range in spaces.

Methinks that Tony is wearing hairpiece. :p

Who Decides Season Pass Eligibility?

Strange:

TiVo offers me the option of getting a season pass for "7 News Sunday at 5pm" but not for "7 News Saturday at 5pm"

Not a big deal, just wondering who decides on what shows are season pass eligible.

Dead TiVoHD

Last night my main unit died. It rebooted randomly, then was unable to sustain a "welcome powering up." I unplugged it for 30 minutes or so, plugged it back in, and nothing at all.

Sounds like a power supply, right?

So, a couple of questions.

1) I tried a different power cable. I confirmed the power strip is working. Anything else to try?

2) Any way to extract shows from either the internal hard drive or the esata expansion drive?

3) If I decide to get adventurous and try to replace the power supply, where can I get one other than from another TiVoHD? Will a power supply from a Series 2 work? I have 2 of those.

Need a TCF board op or sysadmin...

...to help me find out if TCF refuses to email to a domain currently owned by Earthlink (regardless of user name in front of @), or if Earthlink is just refusing to accept email from TCF.

So, TiVo doesn't support Amazon Prime?

On any of the boxes?

setting up NAS and Tivo

Need someone to talk me through the steps of setting up a NAS and TiVo to play nicely with each other like I am 12....

I have a 4GB WD My cloud Mirror NAS (2TB on raid1), and an old school TiVo wirelessly networked with the home networking package, previously been using tho desktop plus to transfer to/from my computer..

The Goals!

-Have the NAS automatically pull every recording from the TiVo (or have the TiVo push every recording to the NAS) for storage.

-Be able to stream these recordings from the nas to other DLNA devices on the network

-Be able to view & stream (or transfer on demand) the TiVo recordings from the nas back to the TiVo..

-be able to play other downloaded videos and home recordings from the nas on the tivo

-only store one copy of a particular episode if it airs re-runs

The wd my cloud interface has an 'apps' section to download/install 3rd party applications, but...... I don't really know where to begin here being a nas roomie
