Big Brother S18E19 (OAD 7/31/2016)

so wow - i just figured out the most dangerous player in the house is Paulie.
(not the HoH Paul - the other one).

Should I Buy A Used TiVo Stream?

I am getting ready to buy a TiVo Stream and I am trying to decide if I could get by with a used TiVo Stream. I gather from reading here that one of the risks is getting one that has not been de-activated. I just got a Tivo Mini that was used and I simply called TiVo to de-activate the old information and activate it for me. Would it be the same for a TiVo Stream? Might they have dealt with this differently since I am already a TiVo customer?

I don't mind spending the extra money for a new one if I need to, but if I can safely buy a used one, that is certainly fine with me. What I don't want to do, obliviously, is buy something and find out that I can't use it. I assume that none of the TiVo Streams are tied to a cable TV company like I have read some of the TiVo Minis are.

Can Tivo make a feature that filters out the beeps that you hear when people swear on TV?

I can't stand the beeping noise that comes from the TV when people use bad language on reality TV. I thought I was able to get away from the obnoxious TV shows that my wife likes to watch such as "Real Housewives of..." by getting a TV and Tivo at the other end of the house. But the beep somehow manages to make its way across the house. Can a Tivo be made to filter that frequency whenever this tone is played?

I wish I could keep my wife from watching Bravo, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Sharknado: The 4th Awakens

Figured there should be a feedback thread for live chatting about the next of these yearly masterpieces. ;)

So far we have weather controlling devices. What could go wrong?

Brighthouse Birmingham TA?

Do you definitely have to use a Tuning Addapter for a Bolt in Birmingham on Brighthouse?

Amazon Fire TV

I just bought a Roamio OTA and a Stream a couple of weeks ago. One of the feature that made me buy it was the streaming to the Fire TV since I already had a couple of them.

The problem is that my video is jerky and out of sync with the audio most of the time. Both Fire's are the box types and are hardwired to the router. I also have iphones and ipad and the streaming works fine there. I even have an Apple TV box that I can mirror the streaming from my apple devices and it works fine. Out of house streaming works fine also to my apple devices.

I have pretty much concluded that the beta software for the Fire just doesn't work well. It probably doesn't buffer up enough before it starts playing.

Has anyone figured out any setting on their Tivo's, stream's, or routers to make it run smoother?

Thanks in advancel for any advice.

Hal

Direct TV and "Regular" Tivo

If I wish to use Tivo with direct TV with Tivo am I limited to the Tivo unit that Direct Tv provides

Channel has no buffer, won't record

I have two Roamios and subscribe to Comcast Xfinity in Atlanta. Starz Edge, channel 711, started acting strange about a week ago. It no longer buffers the program. That channel will pause, but won't rewind, fast forward or record. As far as I know, this is the only channel affected and the problem is on both my Tivos. Anyone have an idea what's the cause?

Strange Mini to Roamio Connection Problem

Everything has been setup and running fine for months and just recently had a problem that makes no sense to me.

I have two Tivo Minis connected via ethernet (riding on a MoCA 2.0 network) to a Roamio. Both of them will play TV channels fine and I can channel up and down and responds correctly. But on the Tivo menu on both says that they can not connect to the Family Room Tivo... which is the Roamio. Guide will not come up... says that it doesn't have a connection. None of the streaming services show up on the menu. But I can go into network settings and it goes through all the connection steps fine... on all three devices.

I've tried everything imaginable... restarted them all several times... tried coax instead of Ethernet and it does the same thing. For some reason its able to receive LiveTV streaming from the Roamio, but nothing else... and it seems to think that it can't connect with the Roamio.

Background is that two events happened in the last several weeks that caused our network to be disrupted outside the house. We had a nasty lightening storm that resulted in my Airport Extreme being dead (even though attached to a surge protector connected to a UPS); and AT&T dug up our front yard putting in UVerse and ran pretty close to my Time Warner underground lines. Our TV for several days had been very choppy, and internet was inconsistent. But the Tivo Minis could talk to the Roamio fine. TW was out today and said something was wrong out at the box... and another truck came and was up and down the street for hours. This strange problem started after the technician left that was in the house. The technician while diagnosing disconnected at a few points to check signals, and tried swapping a splitter, but I am pretty sure it was back the way it started out... since then have not been able to get the Minis to work correctly and he never went in the rooms they are in.

Guessing something is not right on the Roamio drop, but pulling my hair out as to what it might be.

kmttg - Nothing Uploaded

Any ideas?

It looks like it works, but nothing is uploaded to my Roamio Basic.

Router bandwidth problems?

Trying to stream (HD) recording from 1 Roamio to another over wi-fi, after 10 mins or so I get the network too slow error. Well, fine.
I connected the source tivo to the router with a direct patch cable thinking that should fix it as the wi-fi congestion would be cut by half. Still get it. Same when I try to pull a program from the wi-fi connected unit to the wired Tivo.
This is a new DLink gigabit router which has not presented any other problems.

I should note I had previously used one of the Roamios to stream HD content on my PC via Plex using a 2wire DSL gateway that's almost ten years old.. hardly gigabit class!

The DLink is using factory default settings and gave no problems connecting with the boxes on setup.
Any ideas? I dont know where to start or how to troubleshoot.

Really weird tuning problem on Series 3

My Series 3 OLED started doing something really weird 3 weeks ago.

Channels are black when trying to view live TV. No message about channel unavailable, just black.

At any one time, there is ONE channel that will tune in. It happens to be the channel that a scheduled recording last recorded on. If two channels attempt to record at the same time, only one actually records anything. The other is black.

Somehow, the initiation of a recording makes the channel work until a new scheduled recording starts on a different channel. However, manually starting a recording on the current channel that is black does not make it work.

Any ideas here?

lightning striked near by, hdmi out blown?

i have a roamio plus and it will not output any video..... I know its working as my mini can see it, stream from it, and get live tv.....its like the surge took out the hdmi port. anyway to fix it? It has lifetime.
Would anyone want to buy it?

No longer suggesting HD Channel

We had an issue with our cable company's Cable card (Charter) where it showed all channels as not authorized. Rather than trying to figure out the problem they just replaced the Cable Card with a new one.. All the channels are working again, but now TiVo is not suggesting the HD version of the channel we are watching.
Before it would say Press D to watch in HD.

How can I re enable this setting to suggest the HD channels again?

I have went through my programming, and ensured that the HD channels are enabled and do work. I also have tried to power cycle the tivo box.

We have the TiVo Roamio Pro

TiVo Mini AV Cable (Component)

I bought a TiVo Mini from Ebay this week and it arrived today. I set it up through HDMI, but now I want to connect it to a television via the AV cable. The Mini had an AV cable in the box, but it does not display anything on the television when I select AV on it. Do I need to do something special on the Tivo or on the Mini for the AV cable to work? I called TiVo support and they said that they do not support the AV cable.

I am also wondering if the AV cable that came in the Mini box is not compatible with the TiVo Mini. When I look at TiVo online, the cable(s) that they sell looks different than the one that came in the TiVo Mini box.

Amazon and Netflix won't play

Hello all,
I have a Tivo Premier XL that recently stopped streaming both Netflix and Amazon. I can access the site, browse shows, but when I select a show the screen just goes black. I have another Premier that doesn't have any problems with either. Ditto for my Roamio Pro.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Can't switch from 1 Channel to Another - Channel Not Available

I finally got my OTA antenna fully installed, and my Tivo Roamio connected.

I had actually been playing around some for the last week, trying to get everything just perfect, and today tightened everything down.

Before today everything was fine, but now I have a problem.

If I go to the "Guide" on myTivo and choose a channel everything works fine. Once I am on the channel.....let's say channel 4. If I click on another channel number it does one of two things. It either goes to Channel 2 (which is not the channel I chose), or it comes up a black screen with the following message "Channel not available. Contact your cable provider for more information".

Cannot delete show

I have an "incomplete" show that I transferred to my Roamio via PyTivo. Cannot delete the file - tried kttmg and also rebooting - no success. Any suggestions? thanks.

Supergirl/CW move

With the Season 1 repeats starting on Monday on the CW, it's the perfect time to move Season Passes from your CBS station to the CW affiliate; not often that happens well before fall starts when you have to remember the network hop along with all the new shows.

Dark Matter S02E05 OAD 7/29/2016

I like what they've done with the android. I like the way she can turn the "update" on and off. What do you think?

Van Helsing (Syfy show)

It premieres 9/22, but Syfy is airing the first episode tomorrow night (Sunday) after their Sharknado-fest (9:00 Central).

Looks pretty goofy (it's set in a future where virtually everybody is a vampire; the heroine is immune to vampirism, and can turn vampires into humans by biting them). But hey, it's the dead season, I'll try just about anything! :D

Where to get a new mini?

I know the obvious Ebay/craigslist. Hoping to find a good condition mini (with lifetime) in the near future. I don't care if it's the older generation.

I want cheap so I guess the used market is the best. Any thoughts?

Edit - I guess the title is a little misleading. I mean "new" to me. Although I would certainly buy a brand new one if the price is right.

Bolt/comcast -no cable card

Will my bolt get any channels if I connect the cable to back without a cable card..??

If so how do I do the set up

thanks...

Tivo Bolt Activation

Just got our Bolt and replacement hard disk.
Do I activate the new Tivo with the original hard disk first, then upgrade to the new hard disk - or do I replace the hard disk right off the bat before activation?
Thanks.

Never Understood Why: Power

I never understood why, when ever I have a power outage, when power is restored the TIVO will reboot itself ...that then I must do a 'remove power' reboot/cycle to get all devices on my network to see and stream shows between devices!

iPad TiVo stream picture-in-picture

I finally figured out how to stream TiVo video picture-in-picture using an iPad. Unlike most apps that shrink video to picture-in-picture just by pressing the "Home" button, to TiVo app doesn't do this. I tried opening TiVo online with Safari but the "play" buttons are missing. The trick is to use a different browser like "iCabMobile" to open the web site were the "play" buttons appear. First turn off the messages telling you to use the iPad app instead of the web page. Next you hit the "play" button, hit the "full screen" button then the picture-in-picture button. Next hit the "home" button... to get the Broswer off the screen. Now you will have a streaming TiVo in a small window in the corner of your screen.

(This browser has an interesting setting where you can make it appear to be coming from a "Windows 8” computer for instance, instead of an iPad: Settings... network... Browser ID. Don't change the Broswer ID if the default setting works.)

Of course, if there is an easier way to do it please let me know.

Hard drive upgrade

Hi,

Trying to replace a hard drive for Tivo Roamio. Looks like the recommended drives are AV-GP series WD30EURS or WD30EURX. However both seems to be discontinued and third party sellers are asking for too much money. What is the recommended alternative replacement for 3TB hard drive.

Thanks for your help.

Tivo Online Works with Tablet, Not with Computer

I am having issues with accessing My Shows with tivo online via my computer. It says that my Tivo is not connected to the internet. I can access and stream with my tablet and phone however. Every computer, hardwired or wireless, runs into this same issue. Tivo support has been brutal to work with and just wants me to keep rebooting the tivo, or the modem, check my TCP ports, etc. Looking for some help from anyone who may have a clue as to what is going on. Tivo online was working previously, and nothing has changed with my network hardware or otherwise.

Adding Metadata pytivo

Is there a way to find out the terms that tivo uses for its metadata. I would like to be able to start tagging the series I am uploading with episode and season numbers for easy sorting

Tivo Bolt reboots when i try to scan channels on guided setup

so I just got this tivo and I'm trying to set it up...reboots everytime on guided setup when i go to scan for channels...tried different antenna, different hdmi cable, different tv..same thing everytime...is it the harddrive?

Typical message Tivo service has detected a channel change. Deleted 292 metv. The problem is it's still working and is not deleted.

Busted! Comcast Down-Converts native 1080i Channels to 720P!!!

I think this deserves its own thread because it's such a severe violation to Comcast customers and the underhanded tactics of the always hated cable companies, in my humble opinion!

He happens to reside in California, and has multiple TIVO Roamio units.

Bottom line: there is a TIVO test build which purports to fix this issue. The issue is NOT MPEG4 specifically, as COMCAST has MPEG4 channels, not down-rezzed, and they work fine on Roamio.

The issue is the down-rezzing, and it is 100% a software-based issue for TIVO to sort out.

He read me the engineering report and it clearly identifies the bits which must be changed. What else this might break is what is being tested, but the core issue has been identified.

I am not claiming this is new intel, just sharing my 45 minute conversation with him.

No time frame was shared for the TIVO release but this person validated it is being actively worked by Tivo and COMCAST.

Hanging up I feel pretty good about this, and am optimistic without having anything tangible to share.

Out of respect I cannot share his name or title, but he is a hands-on player at COMCAST in Northern California.

I think this is a MUCH bigger issue than breaking a few channels on one model line of a niche product like TiVo Roamio! I'm thankful that it didn't work on Roamio, so it exposes Comcast's disgusting disregard for their customers!

If I had Comcast here I would drop them in a heartbeat, even going to directv and paying more if I had to. They didn't even tell any of their customers what they were going to do!!! To me that's low and despicable behavior!

I certainly hope these channel owners knew and approved of what Comcast's plans were to ruin their channels on their system, or there's going to be some seriously explaining to do. Maybe some calls and emails to their corporate headquarters about what slimy Comcrap did is in order?

It comes from this post when I suspected something fishy going on after reading this thread:

1280x720x60 = 55,296,000 pixels/second
1920x1080x30 = 62,208,000 pixels/second

62,208,000 - 55,296,000 = 6,912,000

6,912,000 x 8 = ....... You guessed it....

Conclusion:
They are down converting 1080i channels to 720p so that for every 8 1080i channels they can put on their system, they can put in 9 720p channels.

Guilty as charged!!!

If these 8 or so HD channels are 1080i, then converting them to 720p first will allow one extra 720p HD channel per QAM (6MHz). Therefore an 850MHz cable plant could (theoretically for this calculation, not including whatever they decide to use for Internet, etc.) could use about 140 QAM channels, each having 9 720p HD channels/QAM for a total of 1260 HD channels, as opposed to only 8 1080i HD channels/QAM for a total of 1120 HD channels. That's a difference of 140 HD channels, not only one per 90 as you're trying to say.

Of course in real life there's a mix of 480, 720, 1080, plus internet, OOB, etc. on that 850MHz pipe, but you can see how they could theoretically put dozens more channels (or even using that extra space for more internet bandwidth) on the system by converting 1080i channels to 720p and then compressing using h.264

I am sure that Sony let them and all other networks know that their service was going to be 720p due to constraints of their streaming system, at least initially, when they were negotiating the rights to provide their channel on Vue.

Like I said, it's NOT that a few TiVo's can't tune and/or record a few channels that's the issue. It's the fact that Comcast made a conscious decision to down convert 1080i channels to 720p, WITHOUT LETTING ITS CUSTOMERS KNOW THIS FACT!!! To me that's like going to the store and buying a clearly marked 12oz soda, but there's really only 11oz in the can! That's what they're doing with their OWN STBs from what I recall reading....that those boxes still report the problem channels as "1080i"!

They can cheat their own boxes to read whatever they tell them to via FW/SW, but not a TiVo. (Not saying this is what is happening, just a hypothetical)

I think this needs to be reported and widely spread to call out Comcast on this ridiculously egregious, slimy, underhanded move on their part, just to cram in a few more crap channels that show nothing but crap reality TV! Dave Zatz maybe?

Does anyone's Roamio complete the Comcast Channel 1995 STB test?

Hey gang-

We're in the Atlanta Comcast/Xfinity area. We just received the Equipment Update letter. Per the instructions, I tuned our Roamio Pro to channel 1995. The screen then reads "If an Update is needed, a message will appear on your screen within 20 seconds...if no message appears within 20 seconds, this box is up to date and there is nothing you need to do".

Well, the good news I suppose is that no message appears. But as a point of comparison, I tried this on an older TV upstairs running a Tivo Series 2 through a DTA. The same test there results in a screen that says "your box is compatible, no action required."

Given some other threads that hint at some serious issues with Roamios and Comcast MPEG-4, thought I'd ask.

Bones - season 11 finale reairs

Maybe no one cares about Bones anymore -- i couldn't find a discussion thread to bump -- but when FOX aired its season finale last Thursday, it was chopped by convention coverage overruns, especially on the East Coast. FOX apologized and promised to reair the episode, which it is doing so tonight. (Friday, July 29, 8pm)

Remote keeps forgetting IR settings

I bought a new remote for my Roamio yesterday (a TiVo RF/IR). I paired it with the Roamio, and then went through the process of configuring it to turn my tv on/off and adjust the volume of my receiver. Everything worked great for one night.

This morning, neither the TV on/off nor the receiver volume up/down worked with the remote. The TiVo functions worked fine.

So I went back into the remote setup and configured the TV on/off and receiver volume again. And they worked again, for less than an hour; I noticed a few minutes ago that they stopped working again. So I configured them again.

Am I missing something obvious here? Why would the remote keep forgetting the IR settings (I assume it's the remote that is having issues?)

Thanks,
Jeff

Roamio died under service plan, question?

I had a almost 3 year old Roamio Basic that just died, and have 9 months left on the current $14.99/month plan. Can I buy a tivo bolt and just transfer that service plan over?

Can you to get OTA and Cable feed to TIVO

I really want to come back to the Tivo community, but I can't figure out how to get Both OTA and cable signal to the whole house with only one input on the Tivo unit. Sure i could get 2 Tivo's, (BOLT plus and OTA Roamio), but how would i feed them both to the rest of the house. Is it possible to use the minis on 2 different dvrs? Or, is there another way to feed my tivo with both cable and ota.

The reason i want ota is because of the superior picture quality I see over the cables local feeds.

Someone please tell me theres a way to get this done.

Missing APP and suggestion of new APP

Their use to be a streaming APP that allowed me to view 'CNet' and 'Twit' shows and I notice that the APP is no longer on my screen?? Did I do something to get it removed? If TIVO did it could they please give me back a "Twit TV" app?

Also there are free / advertising supported streaming channels that I would like to see TIVO to add:

(Sony's) Crackle movie/tv channel.
CBSN a free streaming news channel from CBS Network.

I would also love to see the CBS NETWORK app so that I could sign up for the CBS shows and when it starts streaming the new "Star Trek" series.

Pluto TV! Streaming TV from around the nation / world.

Be able to add cable TV movie channels such as HBO as part of a monthly subscription without needing to have AMAZON PRIME or local cable connected.

I would really like to see TIVO add streaming record option. This way a movie/tv show-series could be downloaded and viewed even if I might be having poor internet connection at time of viewing. Don't have to worry about the "Buffering" issues!

Big Brother S18E18 (OAD 7/28/2016)

Nice twist... I like the idea that anyone sent out might be coming right back in...

They obviously made sure that the secret room was found...and that everyone got a ticket... They should have saved wasting our time and just handed out a ticket to each person and explain the rules... The whole secret room thing was so pointless...

Tivo reboots when coax connected

I have a Tivo premiere XL with cable signal being delivered via clear QAM that is actually an OTA signal but sent out via QAM. I live on a university campus and they don't want to subscribe to cable and do not provide cable cards.

My Tivo initially worked fine minus guide data. But lately it just kept rebooting. I finally figured out it worked fine without the coax attached. I've tried adding signal attenuates but am having no luck. As I understand it this is the only Tivo that will support QAM without a cable card.

Sometimes I can eventually get it to work but it takes many reboots. Is there anything else I can do? Is there maybe another brand of DVR?

I have tried my own antenna but my appartment is in a bad spot to put up my own.

Roamio and Acorn TV

I love my Roamio. Only time we don't watch tv through it is when we watch a blue ray movie.

My wife received an Acorn TV gift certificate the other day. This left me on task on how to use it. It apparently is a streaming service like Netflix and Amazon Prime. However, I don't see an app on the roamio for it. I also looked in the opera store and didn't see an app there.

My tv is a sharp, which has some streaming, but no Acorn (sad face). Either my Sony blueray player.

Anyone know if there might be Acorn support on the roamio soon? If not, suggestions on the best player! Some forums indicate problems with the fire stick. The roku 3 looks pretty good...but it's $79 at Costco.

Thanks, dennis

Mini Losing Connection to Roamio

Every day at approximately 3PM, my mini loses connectivity to the main Roamio. This has been happening for 6 months or more.

I'm connected via ethernet. I use static IP addresses on both boxes.

The fix is to go in to the bedroom and reboot the Roamio. Once it is done booting, the mini goes back to normal function.

I've had TiVo's since the series 1 but it's hard to convince family members that TiVo is still a good thing when our Contour box (that they make us have to get our deal) is rock solid with zero issues. If it isn't this issue then the darn tuning adapter is locking up every week or two. :( I'm so close to selling these units and giving up on TiVo once and for all. I really don't want to, but I'm just worn out on the constant tweeking and low level pain of owning a TiVo. :(

Any thoughts on what I can to to get my TiVo stable again?

Bolt/Charter and some premium channels

New to Tivo and Cablecard. I have been using less than 2 months and recently upgraded to package that includes Starz, Epix, Encore and TMC. It gets activated and all the channels come in except the first one of each of the channel types. It is the weirdest thing. The first TMC, Starz, etc all say v58 not subscribed.

I have power cycled, connected to tivo services, and disconnected and connected the TA along the way.

Charter wasn't much help, reset, sent new signals, etc nothing helped. They are sending a tech out in a couple of days not sure what that will do unless they replace the card. Any experience or thoughts would be appreciated.

Time limit on recordings?

Is there a time limit in how long you can keep recordings on Tivo? I have ample room on my hard drive, settings set to keep recordings until I delete, keep all, and yet I discovered today that some of my recordings are set to delete within 24 hours. Have I missed something? I have a Roamio Basic if that matters.

Thanks, Sam

Not a Happy Camper

While overall I love my Tivo, I am very disappointed with the last two weeks. What am I paying for if the system isn't smart enough to know the shows I have scheduled to record are being delayed by the political conventions? After being our of town for a week I come home to shows with most of them 1/2 to 3/4 convention coverage then 10 or 15 minutes of the show I wanted to actually see just starting before it quits. And some shows with zero of the actual show.

Big Brother S18E17 (OAD 7/27/2016)

Some of the people in this house are starting to act like they own the place. Since when is the person on the block not allowed to try to campaign to the Veto winner? I think Paul lost it for a minute.

The house meeting was a joke. Of course no one is going to admit that they would be willing to evict DaVonne when she is sitting right there. Glad to see Paulie had a backbone.

And some of these HG's need to show some class win they win. This is the 2nd week in a row that they have been openly celebrating when the person they want out loses the Veto comp. You want them out, fine...but show some respect when that person realized that their game has just ended.

Mr. Robot S2E3 "eps2.2_init1.asec" OAD 7/27/2016

Well, the highlight for me was seeing "Bill" again.

Also, the melody used in the future dream is bothering me, as I can't quite place it.

For a second I was thinking it was Level 42's "Something About You", though I'm not sure now.

Edit: Just figured out it was a Green Day track.

Help: New Premier Owner

I just bought a TCD746500 with lifetime cheap :)off Ebay.
I have never had a TIVO or even operated one.

1. What do I need to do to get it up and running fast so I can see if it works ok?

2. Will the current owner have to do anything to transfer lifetime service or do I just contact TIVO with numbers on the unit?

3. I use Comcast, any tips on how to deal with them? Should I just show up at a service center with my set top box to return and ask for a M card?

4 I have a second Comcast tuner in a second room ($6 monthly). To replace it, if I buy a TIVO Mini will I also need a TIVO Stream? And would I also need to setup a MoCa network since the 3nd tv is no where near Ethernet?

Alternatively, my first Comcast Cable set top box is free (non-DVR), If I keep the one box perhaps I would only be charged for a second cable card for the TIVO and would not have to buy a Mini, Stream, and MoCa setup.

5. Any tips would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

Get stock firmware onto a former cable company box

Hello, I have an RCN Tivo box that was found in a house we were cleaning out, I would like to use it with my local cable service (service electric cable tv & communications). Is there any way to get the RCN firmware off of this box that I have and put a stock Tivo firmware onto it and use a cablecard from my local provider?

The model number is TCD746320

Bolt Streaming to PC and Portable Devices

So I am trying to understand what streaming with Tivo actually entails. I originally thought Tivo had abilities similar to a slingbox. That live tv or pre-recorded programs could be streamed to any browser or mobile device using the tivo app, at least on your home network.

I don't have much issue with my iPhone at home, every thing seems to be streaming fine, both live tv and pre-recorded programs. I just hit watch now, it begins recording and immediately beings playback.

The real trouble comes from using Tivo Online from a desktop on my home network. When I look at the guide, all channels say watch now. I hit it, select live tv, a window pops up and says its attempting to start recording and begin playback. It works on a handful of channels. Often times a blank window with a play button only appears, others I get a message saying the copyright holder does not permit streaming. The same thing happens for pre-recorded programs. I don't get it. Why can I stream the same content to my iphone without any issues. They are both on the same network. It's like the browser version is totally broken.

Can someone clarify what can and can't be streamed to what device when you are both on and off your home network. Because I called technical support and it was like talking to a wall. They kept telling me there should be no watch now button when using the browser.....

Another MoCA question

I just got a Bolt and am thinking about replacing my MoCA ver. 1 network w/ver. 2. I currently have an Ethernet cable feeding an Actiontec MoCA adapter which outputs to a dedicated coax (not connected to cable/OTA antenna).

The coax then feeds a splitter across the room that connects to a second Actiontec adapter which feeds an Ethernet switch and Ethernet out to a TiVo Roamio (et. al.); and, a second coax that feeds a third Actiontec in another room. i.e.:

router>Actiontec>coax>splitter>2nd. Actiontec>switch to equip.
|
|>coax>3rd. Actiontec>switch to equip.

Can I replace the 2nd. Actiontec w/the Bolt? i.e.:

coax>Bolt>Bolt Ethernet>switch

I hope you can understand this

Rio Olympics - OnePass

NBC/Universal is broadcasting the Olympics on multiple networks, Creating a OnePass to record on all networks is easy; as is one to record on a single network.

I cannot however see a way to create a OnePass to record on say only three of the six. I cannot create a second OnePass.

Due to space ;imitations i want to record three networks on one DVR and three other networks on another.

I hate wall-warts

I have a Mini, a Stream, a cable modem and a router in (virtually) the same place. All need 12 volts so all need wall-warts. For 5 volt devices there are any number of USB power bricks with a single AC cord and multiple DC outputs. Has anyone ever seen or heard of such a device for 12 volt equipment? (DC cabling is another matter but no use looking for that, yet.)

Prepping Roamio 4 sale

I am replacing 1 of my Roamio basics w/ a Bolt to use w/my 4k TV. It has a 3Tb WD grn drive, lifetime svc. and an upgraded Lite-on power adapter. Will go on ebay. Want to make sure that only a C&D is needed to prep?

TiVo stream version?

I'm getting an error that my stream device (stream) isn't compatible with out of home streaming.

Worked last time I tried it away from home

Bolt MoCA version

Does Bolt use MoCA ver. 1 or 2? I can't seem to find it in the specs.

Roamio Plus Rebooting

My Roamio Plus is rebooting many times a day. I replaced the HD and for a few days I had no problems. I plan on replacing the power supply next.

My questions are:
If the HD is the problem will Kickstart show the HD bad?
Can the power supply cause the HD to go bad?
When I replace the power supply if I still have a problem, what should I check next?

Thanks in advance,

Problem with Roamio Signal Strength - help?

Hi - I replaced my TivoHD with a Roamio about 3 months ago. Generally loving it...

A few years back, I had a problem where the signal to the TivoHD from my Verizon node in the basement was -too- hot. My high-tech solution was to put a couple of balanced signal splitters in the coax path to the Tivo. Worked great, and when I did it, every time I inserted a splitter, I could immediately see a change on the signal strength screen of the TivoHD.

Fast forward to this week - I'm starting to get noise in my recordings. I look at the signal strength on the Roamio and it's at 90%, 36dB. So I think - let's remove the splitters and boost the signal. So I remove 2 (out of 3 total) splitters (the 3rd one actually is needed). The noise reduces significantly, but the -readings- on the Roamio - even 12 hours later, haven't budged (90%, 36dB). I KNOW it's getting a stronger signal, so why don't the readings change?

Does this make sense? Is there something funky in the way this all works that I'm not understanding?

Thanks!
/j

Woot Powerline Adapter Special

Are either of these Woot specials a fairly good solution for TiVo as powerline adapters go? Is anyone using them with good results?

http://ift.tt/2aguN5r

I'm not personally looking to buy them, but saw them in my daily Woot email and thought I'd share the seemingly good prices, if they're usable of course.

PyTivo and sleep mode

Apologies if this has been asked, but my search for this question has not been successful.

I've been a pyTiVo user for awhile, but last fall I replaced my main computer, and got rid of my XP computer (which is what pyTiVo was running on), and never got around to reinstalling pyTiVo until recently, because my wife became desperate to archive some shows of hers (her TiVos filled up).

For now, I've installed python and pyTiVo on a spare laptop I've got (Windows Vista), but I can't remember if I used to disable sleep mode or not. I'm noticing that when the laptop enters sleep mode, any transfer that's in progress stops transferring. If I wake up the laptop, the transfer resumes.

So, does this mean that it's recommended that I should disable sleep mode on the laptop? Or is there a way to allow it to enter sleep mode so long as there are no queued transfer requests? I ask because I just feel that permanently disabling sleep mode might use a lot of electricity, and I was wondering in there was a greener solution that won't cause my wife's transfers to stop in the middle of the night, for her to wake up and discover they got interrupted.

Also, is it ill advised for me to running the pyTivo software on a laptop vs a desktop?

Survivor's Remorse - Season 2 - Spoilers

Well, that totally blows. Uncle J was the best thing the show had! WTF were they thinking killing him off?

I'm really unhappy about this.

ok. I'm only 15 minutes into the debut ep. Better get back to watching.

I really thought it would be the old "that's not him" switcharoo when they went to the morgue.

This sucks.

The Night Of (HBO) - Pt. 3 (OAD 7/24/2016)

Anyone still watching? This show is moving very slowly, but I'm still hooked.

Rikers is a terrible place, as expected.

That door to the basement of the crime scene will surely play a significant role, given how much they focused on it in this episode. Is that how the murderer got in?

Stone will obviously continue to play a role. I don't know if he will get rehired, but maybe he will be so drawn to this case that he does his own independent investigation.

HDMI Connection Not Authorized

Bought a new TV two weeks ago, and switched from Comcast to Verizon one week ago. Since the switch to Verizon, and not before that, I'm getting an "unauthorized HDMI connection" error when I switch inputs on my TV to HDMI 1, where the Bolt is connected. Neither live nor recorded content will show, but the UI (e.g., the menus) show fine. Quickly yanking the HDMI cable and plugging it back in fixes it, until it happens again.

Any thoughts on what could be causing it? The error says something about trying a different cable, which is a bit of a PITA given my setup so I haven't done that yet. Could that really be it? Seems like too much of a coincidence.

TV is a TCL Roku 4K TV.

NFL Network and RedZone are coming to PlayStation Vue

http://ift.tt/2aeZqbx

Quote:

PlayStation Vue just became much more enticing if you're a fan of American football. Sony has announced that both NFL Network and NFL RedZone will be available by the time the regular NFL season kicks off this fall. It's not clear what packages will include the channels, but you will get typical Vue features (such as a cloud DVR and simultaneous streams) and access through the NFL's dedicated apps and websites. Combined with ESPN and other sports coverage on Vue, you may not have much reason to hold on to a conventional TV subscription if you're all about the gridiron.
Good, another reason to dump your cable or satellite company and for TiVo to get Vue on their OTA boxes!

8 Tuners and minis

Ok so dumb question and it's probably covered here somewhere but I can't find it.

I have a Bolt, a Roamio OTA and 3 minis. That gives me 8 tuners.

Say I'm recording 4 shows on my Bolt thus using all available tuners on that box. Can the minis use the tuners on the Roamio to watch live TV?

Setting up MoCA

I have what seems like a pretty straightforward situation: Bolt with tuning adapter, Mini, and ethernet in a third room. But I haven't been able to get it to work yet.

So far, the TiVo mini connected to MoCA and updated itself, but the Bolt did not connect properly to MoCA. Several reboots and retries later, the Bolt had MoCA, but the Mini did not. (Now, neither connects.)

There doesn't seem to be much troubleshooting help available, but I ran across this: http://ift.tt/2ah0JKX
In "Use a TiVo Bridge to create a MoCA network", it shows a connection from the modem to the router's ethernet out, and from the bridge to the router's internet in. That's totally backwards, right?

Preacher - 2016 Season 1 - Spoilers

There does not seem to be enough traffic to justify individual episode threads for Preacher (2016), so let's use this season thread to discuss the season.

My next post will be talking about the most recent episode, S01E09 "Finish the Song", aired on 2016-July-24. But there have been two individual episode threads so far:

One of my Tivos won't work with the app on wifi...

Half the time my Tivo Premiere XL won't connect to the Tivo App if I'm on wifi, but works on cell data. The other Tivo Premiere doesn't seem to have that problem. Any ideas? I don't think it's a router issue because I have my settings pretty streamlined.

Thanks!

Comcast Mpeg-4 issues: View but not Record

Apparently there's a problem cropping up with the Comcast transition to mpeg-4. I first noticed this on Friday, 7/22 when a movie I set to record on Cinemax failed to record and the reason listed in history was "not authorized" - even though it's a subscribed channel. Called TiVo and they went through a series of diagnostics checks and determined the cablecard was apparently incompletely paired and I needed to call Comcast. Saturday, 7/23, called Comcast at 7am and they re-paired the card with not change in the behavior - I could view, but not record as "not authorized." They said it could be the cable card and I needed to swap it out, so drove over to the xfinity store and did so. Got back, put it in and called Comcast to pair. They did so, but lost all my premium channels. After a couple hours going back and forth and forwarded to various departments, THAT was finally fixed. But the original problem was still a problem. Finally got it back to where I was on late Friday by Saturday at 1:30pm ( about 6 hours on the phone and half hour driving!) They scheduled a truck roll for today, Sunday 7/24. I cancelled that when I found a couple of forum posts describing the exact issue I was having. These posts are:
http://ift.tt/2a7qoXT
http://ift.tt/2a7qnmX

The threads show this happening in multiple regions, but only to Comcast users and Roamios.

The channels I've identified in Sacramento are:

763 DXDHDP
797 MGMHD
805 VICEPHD
806 NGWIHD
810 BBCAPH
813 DFCHD
814 UPHD
822 GSNPHD
825 SHOWHDP
838 MAXHDP

This is almost assuredly not comprehensive - they are just the ones I've tested with the relevant criteria (720 resolution, not the expected 1080).

I've posted a question regarding this to the Comcast support forum and a Comcast representative replied that's it's a know problem and that it started with the most recent TiVo software release and that TiVo is working on a fix, but I've not seen anything from TiVo confirming that.

I'm not looking for a magic bullet, push a button and find it fixed resolution. What I want is a more broad acknowledgement of the problem and a timeline for when it will be fixed. I don't care whose problem it is, I just need it fixed.

I don't need to subscribe to channels I cannot record.

I don't need a dvr that doesn't record my subscribed channels.

Don't mean to come across as a rant, but this is frustrating.

Tivo sinking ship / Apps is the future!

I'm sure this title "Tivo sinking ship / Apps is the future!" will stir things up, but it is time to say it for what it is. After seeing no comments on a previous post regarding Kodi app working on Tivo, it made me realize that this post is needed for discussion. Let me set the record straight, I'm a longtime user of Tivo from day one & have seen many good changes, but times have changed. No disrespect to anyone here, but the future is apps & will be the downfall of Tivo. If you read other sites especially the younger crowd, you will see this mentioned time after time that availability of apps, Android/Apple play store & downloading apps is mandatory. The only people that have Tivo is the older people like me, but the next generation has already said apps is the future. Yes Tivo was flagship when it comes to organizing, recording & OTA models (nice), but this is not enough for the future. Don't get me wrong, I love my Tivo & will go down in this sinking ship to the last day, but there is still hope if the new owners of Tivo will listen to the younger crowd. I don't know anyone at College level that has Tivo, Cable or Satellite. This new generation is using Internet apps (especially Kodi app that gets everything & more), Youtube, Netflix & of course all the social media like Facebook etc... This younger crowd doesn't care about recording shows, because there is an app out there to watch that show. Tivo has tried and added apps like Youtube, Netflix & if you dig deep you can locate Facebook, but most of the other apps are no good & laughed at when compared to what is available on the internet. They say why Tivo when just one app like Kodi is better. I sure hope the new owners of Tivo will survey the younger generation & make the changes needed to survive. Tivo does have hope, they need to design a Tivo as an open source box, which will allow the availability of all apps, a browser & everything that is available out there. The redesign would of course include there traditional recording & OTA antenna. Recording & OTA is needed for the older people, as it not needed for the newer generation because everything is already there in a app on the internet. One note recording must be limited to OTA only for legal purposes. Well I sure hope Tivo makes some big changes, but if not I was there at the beginning & will sink with them to the end, because I love my Tivo. Come on Tivo, listen to the next generation & become not just the flagship of recording, but flagship of opensources boxes & everything else out there as they were in the early days. damiansnpvp4

Summer Update?

Hi,

I feel like the last couple of years at this time we either had or were talking about a summer software update (I think)? Any word on when/if anything is in the works?

Braindead 7/24/2016 (S01/E05)

Easily my favorite show of the summer in a cartoony sort of way.

The characters are settling in nicely for me.

I said, "ohhh noooo." at the end of the ep. :)

Remote code for Skyworth

I have an old Skyworth TV that I just started using. Tivo only shows two remote codes for Skyworth, 1173 and 1175. Neither work. Does anybody have any ideas what code works?

Big Brother S18E16 (OAD 7/24/2016)

Wow...great episode!

I don't know how these players stayed in that HoH competition so long... There's no way I could hold my arm up like that for 2-4 hours...

Everyone opened up their kimonos at the tail end of that comp... It was wild to see all the negotiations and game play discussions right out in the open... Nicole keeps getting caught, and is not a terribly great liar...she's like a deer in headlights!

I am pretty shocked (and pleased) that James ended up putting up Frank and Bridgette...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... #friendship... I am really liking Paul's game play after Vic and Jozea left the game... We'll see how that all plays out now that Vic is back in the game...

What the uses for the usb?

I'm sorry, maybe I missed something... But what are the usb inputs for?

They made an effort to put 2 on it so it has to be useful for something I hope. Can someone please tell me what that may be.

Thanks :)

Don't show streaming stuff in my shows?

Is there a way to make it so it doesn't display a folder for a one-pass show if all that it has in there is streaming options? Actually, I'd be happy if it never showed streaming options (they always want me to pay anyway). I can't seem to find the right button to press.

TiVo Roamio Prom- HD Upgrade Options?

I'm a little behind on latest development and numerous posts in this forum have last update dates of 2010 or lower so I'll ask fresh...

1) What's the largest "drop in" hard drive I can insert factory-fresh into a Roamio Pro, and have the Roamio Pro format and use the entire drive? I read some Amazon reviews that sounded like the WD80EFZX fit the bill, but I didn't see much discussion here about it. Do I need MFS reformatter to get to 8GBs, or will TiVo software handle it without?

2) Assuming I want to preserve my shows from the built-in 2TB drive to an 8TB on a Windows 10 64bit computer, which software do I use?

Thanks in advance! It should be understood, I want a solution that uses the entire drive and not just a small fraction.

Hell on Wheels finale (spoilers allowed)

I stopped paying attention a couple of seasons ago and considering the lack of recent posts here I guess I'm not alone? I have watched the past 2 episodes and wanted to see the finale BUT in one of the most epic Tivo fails (not necessarily Tivo's fault) I've witnessed, I got 3 different 5min "teasers" and NO episode. Apparently, one of the teasers had the same guide data as the episode so Tivo skipped the actual episode as a duplicate. Fortunately, it's on a "cable" channel and will be repeated (or I could use magic). So, anyone want to discuss the end of a show that sputtered to the finish line and probably should have wrapped 2 seasons ago? Have at it, I don't think spoilers matter.

Inside the home streaming to android

I've recently been comparing different android apps running on all my devices, and the TiVo app is really depressing when it comes to streaming :-(.

I've got a Roamio and all attempts to stream a recorded program to any android device results in pauses every few seconds, spinning circles, etc. It has improved a bit. The app can at least recover now (it never used to be able to recover at all - the very first pause you'd have to exit, kill the app, and restart from scratch).

Meanwhile, on the same network, the same router, the same place in the house, the same wifi signal strength, the same android device, running MX Player to watch a video off my computer via the web server works flawlessly. Also the amazon video app, the xfinity video app, the ESPN video app, and youtube all work flawlessly.

Is the roamio just too feeble, or is the android app just too stoopid? Clearly there is no network problems since everything else is flawless.

Program Guide on Roamio OTA (Lifetime)

I'm just now starting to look for an OTA DVR recorder, and it appears that there may be a few options all of which are called Roamio OTA.

I'm specifically interested in the newer offering that is in the $399.00 range and comes with no additional fees.

I'm wondering about the program guide. Does it only include the OTA channels, or will it also include other channels that you subscribe to such as sling TV.

I realize that you cannot record sling TV, and I don't care about have sling TV "integrated" so that I can access it through the Roamio, but I'm only wanting to know if the listings will show up on my program guide.

Thank You

Smart TV does a better job at streaming video

I recently had to replace my Main TV and decided to purchase a Samsung 55" Smart UHD TV I found on sale during the Prime day Promotion. I really never paid much attention to what smart TV's were all about because I have both Roku & Fire TV streamers to go along with my TIVO Roamio Basic.
Now that I have had about a week to compare steaming apps on my Smart TV to what Tivo offers its become apparent to me Tivo is not the best solution for me anymore. I also cut the cord a few months ago now use my TIVO exclusively for OTA DVR use where it still does a good job but when I use apps like MLB,Netflix or HULU my TIVO Roamio frequently buffers were my Smart TV almost never has a glitch.
Now maybe its just that the Roamio is now getting aged and a newer model might do a better job but I only have the TIVO because of the lifetime subscription and will not spend that kind of money just to watch OTA TV especially since I have so many other cheaper and better options for streaming content.

Quality issues Streaming 1080/MPEG-4 Content

Searched and searched and can't find anyone else discussing this. I have tested numerous MPEG 2 channels (720 and 1080) and also MPEG-4 720P channels, and I never see this issue. However, for 1080 MPEG-4, and while streaming to both iOS devices, as well as TIVO Online via PC, I am seeing occasional stuttering. In addition, every 2 to 4 minutes, an area of the screen will develop a pink on light backgrounds and kind of grey on black backgrounds. Comes in and goes away in about 2 to 3 seconds.

TIVO Roamio Plus is hardwired, streaming devices are on a 5 GHz band. 1080 over Netflix, Plex, etc is fantastic.

Anyone else seeing this with MPEG-4 and 1080 content?

Help Understanding Tivo OTA/ATSC Channel Config?

Hello there. Apologies if this is an FAQ or covered in documentation somewhere. I've spent a while looking/searching and so far have not found any documentation on this. It would be great to hear from the experts here on how Tivo's channel setup code is supposed to work. I have a Bolt (new as of two days ago, firmware updated post-install) that I am using in OTA mode.

Some background: I live in a place that has fringe OTA signal reception, however I have the antenna and preamp aspect covered (I'm a EE). On a regular TV I am able to scan for digital channels, pickup all the major networks, and view them. This isn't a question about signal strength but rather what the Tivo software does in the realm of channel scan and setup. Perhaps also significant, I live in a place where ZIP codes are very large (Montana) and also between two TV markets. So to answer the question "what set of TV channels might you be able to receive", having only the ZIP code is really not too useful.

So, first let me describe what a regular TV does in its channel scan:

1. For each physical channel in the broadcast bands, listen for an ATSC transport stream. If one is decoded, extract the virtual channel ident information.

2. Display the list of virtual channels, ident text, and (usually) physical channel for the user to review.

Here's what I see the Bolt doing:

1. Ask the user their ZIP code. Fetch channel metadata from a server based on that ZIP code.

2. Scan the physical channels similar to the regular TV process but ignore the encoded station and virtual channel ident information from the received signal. This results in a set of physical channels known to have non-zero signal strength.

3. Cross-reference the set of physical channels from step 2 with the metadata downloaded in step 1. The result is a denormalized table presented to the user that shows Station Ident, Virtual Channel and (important) - NOT the Physical Channel -- in my case there are many "dups" in this list in that it will show me several virtual channels that there is no way I could possibly receive (e.g. UHF stations that are 150 miles away).

4. There is a checkbox next to each channel in the table shown in step 3. The user may check and uncheck the box, presumably to signify whether the station is "real" or not.

Now, here's where this process breaks down for me:

A. It appears that although a station has been identified in the scan, and is receivable in the "antenna signal check" UI (you see a decoded stable picture), UNLESS the channel is present in the set of metadata downloaded for the user's ZIP, you will see a BLACK SCREEN if you try to view that channel in the regular TV watching Tivo mode (same if you record it). I believe I have verified this by changing the Bolt's ZIP -- this made one channel magically go from black to "working" even though nothing else had changed in the actual received signal. Note that the Black Screen syndrome is different from "can't decode the signal because it is too weak". The Tivo never displays that message (I do see that on channels it has mis-identified that don't exist at all). Rather, it seems to have a split-brain situation -- one part of the firmware knows that it can decode the signal (and it displays the picture in the antenna signal check UI), but another code path is going "ooohh no, that's not matching up with anything I know about" so the end result is black.

B. It is impossible in some cases to distinguish between pairs of displayed channels in the "channels" list UI (necessary to know which one to enable or disable). This is because adjacent channels displayed have identical Ident and virtual channel (only the physical channel differs, but that is not shown).

C. In my situation given the geography and (A), it is impossible to persuade the Bolt to display (outside of the antenna check UI) all the channels I can actually receive. This is because the set of channels known to Tivo from the ZIPs corresponding to each of the two local towns omits at least one of the channels I receive. So I get to pick between a black screen for ABC and FOX or a black screen for CBS!

I'm hoping that I'm doing something wrong, or perhaps there is a way to manually override the ZIP code thing somehow. It would also be really nice of the channel scan process paid some attention to (or even displayed) the station ident information from the received transmission. This would allow the user to declutter the large number of bogus channels mis-identified because the same physical channel happens to be used by some LP relay 200 miles away.

Thanks in advance for any light shed on this. I love the Bolt otherwise (just would be nice to get it to recognize all the network stations I can receive here).

Should I buy a TiVo Stream?

Here's the setup.

We have a TiVo Premiere 2-tuner, with lifetime and a Comcast cablecard. It is in the living room.

We recently re-did the kitchen, and we'd prefer not to have a cable box or any cable access there. We're using an LCD monitor with a TiVo Fire TV (box, not stick), and it has been working well. We're not thrilled about not being able to watch live cable, but I sideloaded the XFinity Go app, and it works, sorta.

I saw that the TiVo app is in beta, and it would supposedly allow us to stream content from our Premiere to the Amazon Fire TV. But the Premiere 2-tuner is not supported as a streaming device.

It would appear that a TiVo Stream would solve this problem for us. I think it would also add the ability to stream to any devices, etc., but that's not the concern. We just want to be able to watch the recorded TiVo shows in the kitchen without actually moving the TiVo from the living room to the kitchen.

The only other thing I've tried is to pull the shows using Archivo and then serving them up via Plex. This is inconvenient and slow.

So... worth the $129? Will it solve the problem/issue? Other options to consider?

Thanks for the advice.

Didn't it used to show what Suggestions it was going to record?

I remember a few years ago my TiVo would let me see a list of exactly what Suggestions it was planning to record for me in the next two weeks. And then I could cancel individual recordings, or give them thumbs up/down, &c.

I can't find this functionality any more. I can see what Suggestions it's already recorded for me, and I can "improve" my Suggestions by editing thumbs up/down that I've already given, but there doesn't seem to be a list any more of what Suggestions it's going to record.

Is this functionality gone, or am I just not looking in the right place?

Big Brother S18E15 - Battle<=Back (OAD 7/22/2016)

For the sake of good television, I was hoping for Tiffany to win her way back into the game... Can you imagine? She just left, and she comes immediately back in the game? That would have been pretty fun to watch...

Oh well... Victor coming back is pretty uneventful... Everyone was happy to see him, and there didn't seem to be any awkwardness at all...

Interesting that they reused all the games...good leverage!

I couldn't believe that Glen wasted that poison berry...he shouldn't have tried to maximize the consequence...take down 8 balls...why go for 9 and take the chance?

What was up with that last puzzle? Why did the invest so much time and setup of the multi-colored ball pits? Seemed like a big waste...

Tivo acting strange

The last 2 days every now and then when changing the tuner via the info button I would get a blank screen. If I then hit info I would get no info available. Changing the channel and back again would fix the problem. It just happened again and it seems like this may start becoming a problem. Anyone else have this issue?

Comcast, Roamio, no tuning adapter.

New TiVo/Bolt User. Is my wiring correct?

Hello all. I am a proud owner of a new TiVo Bolt and have made the switch from using Verizon FiOS horrid equipment to my own and it's been a wonderful experience. It is also pretty much my first time to own a DVR since I rarely watch TV, and never had a use for it.

At the moment, I do not have any issues with my TiVo but would just like to clarify something about the wiring diagram I have set up. In the quick manual, it basically tells you to hook up the HDMI to TV, Coax to Tivo and Ethernet to Tivo, then choose Ethernet as Network (Recommended). I also have a TiVo mini that's connected via MoCa.

I did all this and everything works fine. I just wanted to know that if this was normal to have coax and ethernet plugged in, then use ethernet as my network connection. I would assume the cable channels would come through coax and that the internet portion (Netflix, Hulu, other apps) just come through ethernet. Is this correct? Also, is this the recommended way?

Onepass help with recording a season

I bought TiVo recently and thought that the Onepass feature was wonderful and could set it up for future recordings of all new episodes. Sadly I can't for the life of me figure this out for my mother who only watches TFC (The Filipino Channel) and GMA Pinoy TV.

TFC has shows that come on during the day to air and then rerun the same episode early in the morning. Whenever I set onepass to record just "New" episodes, it records the new and also the reruns. Basically it will DVR double the episodes per day. Has anyone had any experience with this especially with this channel and has successfully set it up so that I don't have to hit manual record for every single future episode?

Another external HD Thread

I'll make it simple: Has anybody succeeded in attaching an external hard drive to the Bolt's ESATA port other than the one listed by TIVO or the product that WeaKnees sells?

Extract shows off TiVo with meta data and move to plex server.

I am lucky enough to not have copy protection on any of my channels except HBO.

I would like to (as the title susggests) move my shows (if possible remove commercials) and inject them to my plex server so I can go to Apple Tvs around the house.

What combo of software would easily do this? PyTivo?

Tivo Online Won't play?

So I have used online.tivo.com almost daily for the past year and it has "mostly" worked outside of sometimes needing to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to show correctly.

However, I recently added a VPN to my server which is the PC I stream to and play on my monitor on the wall. I added routes outside of my VPN for the tivo IP addresses they mention on their site. I can see the videos listed etc... but I get no watch option. I can view it fine via my android phone and it streams fine there. Even if I disconnect the VPN, it still no longer works?

Here is my kernel routing that I added for the IP addresses tivo lists. I bolded the tivo IP addresses.

Code:

Kernel IP routing table

208.112.115.0  192.168.1.1    255.255.255.0  UG    0      0        0 eth0

The tivo stream is working because I can watch on my laptop without issue.

Your signal is too strong

WHAT?

I posted before about my Tivo pixelating and glitching. I called to see what the issue is and he said that my cable strength is too strong but he couldn't give me any recommendations.

Signal Strength: 100%
SNR: 39-40 dB
RS Uncorrected: 0
RS Corrected: 1099

What does this mean?

Thanks,

Dawn

PS: I have never had a Tivo rep that I didn't like but this one seemed be having a bad day or something. He wasn't the friendliest.

Plex stretching vertically

I have a Plex server with movies that I've ripped. The movies play just fine on my phones, tablets and via Chromecast. When I play movies that are 2.35:1 ratio (wide screen) I expect a black bar on the top and bottom. However, when I use Plex on Tivo it stretches the picture vertically to fill the screen. This makes circles look oval and people get tall and skinny.

Is there a setting to fix this on either the Plex server or on the Tivo itself?

C501 on new Bolt

I have a new Bolt. Since it arrived monday i have not been able to have any video channels, such as netflix, hulu, xfinity, youtube. many calls, chats, emails with TiVo has resulted in no change. they have had me connect to tivo, repeat and restart, as well as replace all my cat 5 cabling. still the same result. has anyone had similar issues and had them resolved?

'The Exorcist' - Tv series

FYI,

Quote:

The Exorcist returns as a tv series. Directed by Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), the Exorcist is a propulsive psychological thriller following two very different priests tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession. Father Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera, “Sense8,” “The Chosen”) is the new face of the Catholic church: Progressive, ambitious and compassionate. He runs a small but loyal parish in the suburbs of Chicago. He has no idea that his quiet life is about to change forever. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, another priest finds himself locked in a life-and-death struggle with evil. Father Marcus Brennan (Ben Daniels, “Flesh and Bone,” “House of Cards”) is a modern-day Templar Knight, an orphan raised since childhood by the Vatican to wage war against its enemies. Father Marcus is everything Father Tomas is not: Relentless, abrasive and utterly consumed by his sacred mission.

Caught in the middle is the Rance family, members of Tomas’ parish. On the surface, they’re a normal, suburban family, but all is not as it seems in this household. The patriarch, Henry Rance (guest star Alan Ruck, “Spin City,” “Ferris Bueller’s day off”), is slowly but surely losing his mind. Eldest daughter Katherine (Brianne Howey, scream queens) has become a recluse who refuses to leave her room. Her younger sister, Casey (Hannah Kasulka, “The Fosters”), thinks she’s hearing strange noises coming from inside the walls. And mother Angela (academy award and golden globe winner Geena Davis, “Commander in Chief,” “Thelma & Louise”) has been plagued by recurring nightmares, each more frightening than the last. Angela believes there is something in the house, a demonic presence, growing stronger by the day. Desperate, she begs father Tomas for help, unwittingly setting the naïve young priest on a collision course with Father Marcus. Separately, each faces an insurmountable task, but together they become the only hope against an evil force that has been mobilizing for centuries.
Starts September 2016.

Missing Netflix after Hard Drive Upgrade V312 error

I upgraded my 500GB Bolt to 4TB after which I could no longer log onto Netflix. Tivo support was not able to help!!

I finally found the fix for “V312 Error for APPs” on Ross Walker web site:

http://ift.tt/2aAaoJF

“If you find that your TiVo is giving you a V312 error when you try to access apps like NetFlix or Amazon do not panic. Well panic a little bit since you have to do a full reset of your TiVo but it is fixable.

This errors seems to occur most often on TiVo BOLTs that have had the hard drive upgraded.

The solution is to:

Go to TiVo Central - Settings & Messages > Help > Restart or Reset > Clear and Delete Everything. And then follow the instructions.

After rebooting your TiVo, going through guided setup again you should find the apps are fully working”

Vet Shows on Animal Planet

We watch several of these shows... Dr. Jeff Rocky Mountain Vet, The Vet Life, and Dr. Dee Alaska Vet.

They are all great. I especially like Dr Dee and Dr. Jeff. They are both just so compassionate and dedicated to what they do. And willing to go above and beyond to help animals and their families.

I haven't watched much of The Vet Life, but they seem like decent guys and decent vets, but a little more suburban than Dr Dee or Dr Jeff.

And I was saying to hubby the other day... "I don't know what Dr Dee gets paid, but it's not enough..."

Anyone else watching these shows? Have I missed any that are similar?

Bolt/MoCA/Powerline Adapter

I have no Ethernet connection near my Bolt and wanted to do a MoCA network. The correct solution per TiVo literature was to purchase a "TiVo ECB6000TIVO Bridge MoCa 2.0 Adapter" and connect it to the router and cable modem. I could not get it to work and TiVo support was less than helpful. For the record it cost $79 on Amazon. I found a much simpler dolution that worked nicely. A pair of powerline adapters, one at the router one for the Bolt, gave me the needed Ethernet connection and is worked immediately. A pair of powerline adapters is actually cheaper than the bridge, starting at about half the price.

Tivo Bolt 500gb with one Year Subscription New

I have two tivo bolt 500gb with one year subscription for sale. Asking $250 shipped for them. I have not activated them yet and they have the one year sub on the box.

CableCard screen randomly appears

I have WOW! and recently swapped my Roamio Pro for a Bolt and have been very happy with both the service and the Bolt since it was activated. However, since the activation, the CableCard screen shown below randomly pops up fairly often. No specific actions seem to make the screen appear; it just pops up. Pressing the "Clear" button does get rid of the screen, but I am wondering if this might be indicative of a problem.

Any ideas?

Tivo Bolt w/Comcast Xfinity SF Bay Area Video Quality vs. DirecTV

Hi,

I am close to switching from DirecTV to Comcast Triple play w/Bolt as I pay almost $288 per month for AT&T phone/Comcast Internet/DirecTV.

Would appreciate any feedback on those that have also made the switch and if you see a noticeable difference in picture quality (DTV vs Comcast SF Bay Area - I'm in San Jose).

Also, I heard Comcast is switching to MPeg 4 and would like to know if picture quality is any different after the switch.

Thanks,
David

Comcast packages

So I had internet plus for over a year and decided to get double play premier

So I called Comcast and apparently the package comes with X1
There is no way around it
I tried 4 people and 4 hours on phone and chat

So in order to still use the Tivo you have to pay 9.95 for the additional outlet and activate the X1 in order to get this working

Anyone else have this experience?

Wanting to Get Rid of Cable - Need Some Questions Answered About TiVO

Hi, I'm wanting to get rid of cable and I'm looking into some streaming boxes and I had some questions. First and foremost I only watch maybe 5 or 6 channels - CW (WPIX/11), FX, ABC Family (Freeform), Cartoon Network, TruTV, and Animal Planet.

1. Do I still need cable if I get Bolt? What is the difference between TiVO Bolt and Roamio? Why is Roamio expensive but Bolt is cheaper?

2. What is TiVO Online?

3. If I get a cable card, do I still need my DVR/Cable box for Bolt?

Thank You.

Moving form Cable card to to OTA question

I have a Roamio that has a cable card slot, I want to save money and go to OTA. Hopefully I can do that. I live in an apartment and my only antenna I can use is an indoor and can't face the direction towards the broadcasting towers. I bought a real good indoor antenna, and am waiting for it to arrive. Hopefully I can get at least ABC, CBS, and NBC and then just steam the other shows I like. But am not sure how that works. I just started subscribing to Hulu, and I am wondering if the unit will utilize Hulu to record shows? I think Hulu is kind of like Netfix. Unless I'm missing something, I could never set Tivo to to record a Netflix movie, so I'm thinking that I will only be able to "watch" (steam) shows from Hulu. Plus I guess I can live with the fact that it will not record "same day showing" of my shows. Hulu will get them the day after. If they won't actually record, I'll have to sort through the lists and find the latest showing and then steam it. I guess what I'm asking is that a OnePass will not necessarily record all my shows unless it can get them over the antenna, right? I changed all my OnePass' to include streaming, and "new only" but now in My Shows it lists a whole bunch of possible show episodes that I can stream, seems to confusing. I think OTA and streaming seems more complicated that just sticking with Cable, recording and watching my shows. Will have to see how this all works out when I get my antenna and do a new guided setup.

Star Trek Anniversary Special (2016)

Ok, hope nobody gives me a demerit or warning for starting a thread early like what happened earlier this year...

If I wait until an hour before it airs, a lot of people will miss it.

While going thru my Star Trek keyword wishlist, I noticed a "Star Trek Anniversary Special" coming up on History Channel. It has 2016 metadata and has an OAD of 7/31/16.

It looks to be just a one time special and not a series.

Mini - no option to play?

I've had my Mini connected to my Bolt with no problems for months. Today, when I access my Mini, I see all of my recordings and my live tv is working perfectly, but there is no option to 'Play' from my Mini - just 'Delete'.

I've checked in the other room with the Bolt, and it's working properly - I can play recordings from it, and I've rebooted both the Bolt and the Mini, but still no option to play back any of my recorded content.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's frustrating as heck.

Mr. Robot S2E3 "eps2.1_k3rnel-pan1c.ksd" OAD 7/20/206

I'm interested in seeing what E-Corp CEO Price's angle is with turning the information over to Angela.

Also, I had read in a couple of places that people were concerned if Craig Robinson could pull off a serious role. I think he did a great job in his character in this episode.

The Roadkill nominee - it seems they are now becoming the most likely to be evicted...

It's amazing how fast this show shifts.
It was so clear Tiffany was going and now... not so much...

Interesting how Paul has suddenly aligned himself with Paulie and Corey.

Speaking of Paulie - is anyone else getting a megalomaniac feel from him?

RNC and DNC mess up two hour shows! ANW, AGT, Spartan.

Someone posted a question about why his TiVo only recorded the 1st hour of a 2 hour show. On Monday. This is my reply.

I think it was due to coverage of the Republican National Convention. Here in Boise, I noticed that two-hour shows got split in half. 7pm was the 1st hour, 8pm was the RNC, 9pm was the second hour. This happened on Monday, Tuesday, and tonight, too. (America Ninja Warrior on Monday, America's Got Talent on Tuesday and Wednesday). Also Spartan on Thursday.

My 1P only recorded the first hour. The 2nd hour had an identical description to the first, and the 1P wasn't recording it. So I set it up manually.

I noticed this on Monday while I was watching one, so set up the pass for Monday, then checked the rest of the week. Yup, same problem T, W, and R. I don't have any two hour shows the rest of the week. Problem will probably occur for the DNC too.

[edit] Yup, occurs next week during the DNC too. On Monday, 7pm ANW, 8pm DNC, 9pm ANW. My 1P only has the first hour of ANW, not the 2nd. Fixing things now. Also a problem next week for AGT.

If it was America's Got Talent you missing, there is a repeat on Friday, or if it was American Ninja Warrior it is repeated Sunday night.

[edit2] Also occurs this Thursday for Spartan: Ultimate Team challenge. I'm going to post this in the season pass forum, too.

Second Hour not Recording

I record three shows on Mondays right now (all with One Pass), has not been a problem until this week. Tivo recorded all three as usual, but only the first hour. Two of the shows are 2 hours long.

Husband thinks it's on purpose so we'll buy the new Tivo. But I'm hoping there is a fix, without babysitting the Tivo.

There's a special edition of SNL Weekend Update tonight at midnight on MSNBC. About the convention I would guess.

Audio gone after tuning channel, have to re-tune

Roamio base model with TA on TWC, Dayton Ohio.

In the last few days, occasionally, after tuning to a channel the audio is missing. If I re-tune (tune up/down) the audio appears. I've had this setup for almost a year and this just started happening.

If I look in DVR diagnostics when this happens I see no indication of a problem. There is normal signal strength and SNR. There is program lock and signal lock. There are PID's for both video and audio.

One thing I notice -- and I don't know if this is something recent or not -- there is now a choice of two PID's for audio, both of them for AC3. It seems the first choice is always selected (for the few cases I've checked).

Can't Move Show Back to TiVoHD from TiVo Desktop

Recorded a show on my TiVoHD from Xfinity which means it's in the new MP4 format. Wanted to transfer it to TiVo Desktop but couldn't do it directly from the TiVo HD (wouldn't download the whole file) so I had to first transfer it to the Roamio and then transfer it to the TiVo Desktop. However, if I want to move it back to the TiVoHD from the TiVo Desktop I get the attached screen which indicates that the HD format is incompatible with the TiVoHD.

That's impossible...it was originally recorded on the TiVoHD...how can it be incompatible?

Expansion Drive on Bolt

I've just converted over from FIOS DVR's/Set top boxes to a Tivo Bolt and Minis. I would like to expand the Bolt's recording capacity by attaching an ESATA drive. I picked up an ESATA enclosure at a local Micro Center. I have 3.5 inch drives from 500 Gig all the way up to 6 TB. I've read some of the comments on this and other forums, but still have some questions. I've started with a 500 Gig drive. I found that the Bolt when it powers up with the expansion drive attached gives me a message: This Tivo box has detected and expander. When I got to the next step it tells me that it doesn't support this device. I tried this with the drive formatted in FAT32 and NTFS. I'm using a Tivo supplied ESATA cable.

Where am I going wrong? I suspect that not all enclosures will talk to the Tivo, but it would be nice to get some guidance on this.

Thanks

Suits - Season 6 (2016-17) *spoilers*

So the predicable show, the last dying breath of USA's "Characters Matter" lineup carries on.

I wish they had jumped ahead in time a bit. The same terrible writing is still around, where the characters yell for each other for thirty seconds as if every conversation is the most important thing ever to happen. The problem in any yelling match is then resolved by a subsequent yelling match a few minutes later.

Mike made a mistake in prison that could have been seen coming from a thousand miles away. For a really smart guy like Mike, a conman himself, to act so dumb in prison is rather absurd.

TiVo Stream Fatal Flaw

I've had and used a TiVo Stream successfully for over a year. It's been very nice to be able to stream content to my tablets both while on my home network, and while away from my home network.

Unfortunately, there is a fatal flaw that only becomes evident when streaming fails while away from your home network. Apparently, according to TiVo CS, there is NO WAY to correct a failure to stream without reinstalling the streaming app. Unfortunately, you need to be on your home network to successfully install and initiate the app for streaming.

That's a bit hard to do when you're 2000 miles away from your home network! I will be without the ability to stream for a total of 5 months.

The really odd thing is I can connect to my home network, see all my
TiVos, and interact with them to schedule programs, delete programs, etc., but streaming (and downloading) programs fail. TiVo CS says the only solution is to reinstall the app., WHILE ON MY HOME NETWORK. Phtttt!!!
