NYC Verizon Fios - Tivo Roamio Plus - Tivo Mini - Asus RT-AC66U router

Noob Here =)

Just got FIOS installed today and was wondering if someone can answer some questions I may have.

I currently have 2 phones lines with FIOS, TV Package and 75/75 Internet Speed. *ONT to Router via CAT5e*

I was given an Actiontec router from Verizon FIOS and 5 STBs.

*Things I do not care losing: *On-Screen Caller ID , VOD, PPV*

*I really need the TV Guide / Program Listing Data/Feature*

I have the following questions:

1. If I buy 1 Tivo Roamio Plus and 4 Tivo Minis , will I be able to cancel the 5 STB from verizon and save money each month. All I have to pay is for 1 Cable card -- is that correct?

2. Is there a way to use my own Asus router -- along with the Tivo Roamio + Minis?

3. If I use my own router -- will I lose some TV features? If so, what will I lose?

4. At 1 Tivo Roamio Plus + 4 Tivo Minis -- how many shows can I record at once?

5. Attached is what I think my final setup should look like. *Can someone advise if it will be possible, and if I am missing anything. Do I need to change anything in the any of the routers to make this work?

THANKS for all your help!!!

-Leo

Blank screen

I've been having this issue for a while. Had it with my Premiere Elite and continue to have it with my Roamio Plus, which I've had for about a month.

Sometimes when I hit play on a show or go to live TV from the My Shows menu, the screen will go completely blank. I can hit buttons on the remote and I see lights on the unit responding, and I can hear the TiVo sounds also, but there is no audio or picture from live TV or the recorded program. It won't go back to the TiVo menus, it won't do anything at all except make TiVo sounds. The only thing that will bring back the video is restarting the unit. I've tried unplugging the HDMI cables, tried changing inputs, turning the receiver on and off, nothing works except a restart. It still records shows during this period.

Anyone else experiencing this and have a solution? It doesn't do it a lot, maybe once in a 1-2 week period.

Tips for finding movie premieres

Is there a clean way to review movies that are premiering on the various premium channels? Does tivo mark a movie as "new" when it first shows on HBO or Starz?

running slow again

Been running slow all day. Got a "server busy" message once, but mainly just sluggish behavior.

Can Mini-Roamio combo work with 2-tuner Premieres and TiVoHDs?

I have two lifetime TiVoHDs (2TB & 1TB) and a Premiere that each have CableCARDs even though most of our recordings are from OTA broadcasts - the CableCARDs are pretty much used exclusively for sports.

I'm planning to add a Roamio to our network so I can pull the CableCARDs from at least two of the existing TiVos.

If I buy a Mini to use in a remote room and pair it to the new Roamio, can the Mini also access all the copy-freely recorded content on the TiVoHDs and the Premiere?

12 Monkeys 1/30/15 E3S1

I'm having a hard time following the logic/timeline of this show. Cole goes back in time and kills a bunch of henchmen but that has no effect on the timeline? No matter who he kills it won't affect the outbreak because he can't change the future?

I Don't buy that the leader of the bad guys is some 60yr old master ninja that Cole who was raised in the Apocalypse fighting for scraps of food can't beat in fisticufs.

I guess I'm just starting to have a hard time with the plot.

Battlestar Galactica- the original and remake ships... comparison photos?

Does anyone know any online source where you can find a side by side comparison, preferably photos, of the two versions of the Galactica?

I don't know that anyone, from the time the remake started, ever really showed the two versions of the Galactica together so the differences (and similarities) could be compared.

That's it in a nutshell. Anyone know of a comparison chart, photo, etc.?

Won't record programs flagged as "new"

When the in the description has a prior date shown. This seems to happen on SOME BBCA shows that air in Britain before coming to America. It's annoying as the only workaround is to record new and reruns which causes you to have to spend time cleaning up your todo listing. It would be nice if TiVo always recorded a program with a new flag regardless of what the air date shows.

While I'm in complaining mode, it is annoying when some programs are flagged as new when in fact they are reruns of programs that aired earlier in the day. Some cable channels do this a lot. Is the cable channel's issue or is it guide provider's fault?

Man In The High Castle- Amazon Pilot Jan 15 Spoilers for Pilot not Book OK

Got a chance to watch this last night and color me impressed. I've never read the Philip K Dick novel this is based on but thought the plot was intriguing. I thought the rain of ash from the "Hospital" and the way the cop blew it off as "It's Tuesday" was relevant with the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz this year.

Which drive to use in my Roamio Basic, Please?

I know this has been beat to death in the past. Sorry, just checking for anything new.

I'm trying to decide which drive to put in my Roamio Basic. I posted in the upgrade thread but thought it might be better here in the Roamio thread. Trying to delete the other one.

Please advise?

Download to iPad --- "Buffering" ??

I've been downloading shows to my iPad for airplane travel.

When watching them, 10-12 minutes in the show freezes and the screen says "buffering". I'm then not able to watch any further.

Why is this happening? What is it buffering since the entire show is downloaded locally to the iPad?

Multiple Season Pass workarounds

I've seen this talked about in a few of the OnePass threads, but since I haven't seen it mentioned at all in the Premiere forum, I thought I'd start a seperate thread rather than derailing our OnePass thread.

Basically the problem is that OnePass does not allow for multiple OnePasses of the same show. Currently, multiple Season Passes are possible. People have made use of this feature for various reasons. (Different priorities for different channels, HD/SD, different Keep At Most rules, etc.). If you are not using multiple SPs for any shows, congrats, you're a step ahead of some of us.

Currently, I have a season pass for new episodes of the Simpsons on Fox and a lower priority season pass for Simpsons repeats on FXX. Combining these into one OnePass would be problematic for me as it would either move the new episodes to a lower priority making me miss new episodes, or it would move the repeats to a higher priority causing new episodes of other shows to be missed.

My current theory for a workaround will be to create a ARWL for Simpsons that records new episodes only and place that at the top of my priority list, and a OnePass that records repeats from FXX at a lower priority.

Can anyone suggest a better workaround? Or any reason that this wouldn't work?

TivoMargret did suggest other workarounds, but I didn't think those really solved the problem.

Use Plus as a stream

I am cord cutting this week. I currently have a Roamio Plus that I use with a cable card and a Mini. I have an Series 3 that is in storage.

Can I activate my Series 3 and use it for OTA, drop service on my Plus and use it as a stream device instead of buying a Roamio OTA and a Stream? Just trying to save $180 and use my existing equipment.

Stream Tivo To PC running an Android VM Like VirtualBox

I am sure this has already been discussed here but I could not find it. I have a home office and would like to be able to stream tivo to my office pc.

Would it be possible to stream tivo to a pc running a VM of Android running the Tivo App. I am not an Android expert or Android developer but am a windows programmer. It seems possible to me.

Has anyone tried this and what was their experience ?

Thanks,

Ken

'Whats playing now' pointing to channels I don't have?

So I find this very strange... maybe someone can tell me whether they experience something similar..

In the header 'suggestions' (I don't know what the accepted term for this is.. but the icons along the top in the TiVo menu), I keep seeing latino programming for sports events on channels that I don't receive.

At first I thought it was because I had those channels checked (something like channel 1435 on Fios), but I went down to the roamio pro and checked and those channels are not checked.

What gives? That can't be normal or expected, can it?

Also, somewhat related, for live events, how does one tell TiVo that you don't want to watch soccer? (but perhaps you do want to watch American football.. or basketball or whatever).. I have been giving thumbs down to try to get these suggested event from not showing up in the header area, but to no avail.. (maybe that area doesn't take into account your preferences???)

Any ideas? Is it time for a call to TiVo support?

Inconsistent program data

Puzzled how the program data works.

I have a SP/1P for 'All in With Chris Hayes'. I noticed it wasn't recording, went to guide data, and saw there was a special 'Morning Joe at Night.' Okay - but then I saw in suggestions that 'All in ...' was recording there. The actual program was indeed 'Morning Joe at Night.'

So - if the data comes from two different sources (I have Comcast), then though I thought it came from the same place I sort of get it, but don't understand why then if Tivo thought it was 'All in...' it would record in Suggestions and not My Shows.

No Suggestions for a week?

I have two Tivos, and neither are recording suggestions anymore. Both are Premier XL4. One was activated about a month ago (a hand me down from my dad) and the other has been in service for a few years. First I noticed the new Premier stop recording suggestions about two weeks ago. The older Premier recorded suggestions up until last Monday. Now, neither Tivo has recorded a single suggestion.

Anyone else ever seen this issue?

TiVo Pauses on Its Own During Playback

Recently, and it seems ever since my Premiere received the latest SW, my TiVo will just pause during playback of a recorded program. When it occurs, it is just like I hit Pause but the Green status bar on the screen still shows it is in Playback. If I backup a little and then hit play again, it will play until the exact spot again and then will pause. The only way I can get it to continue is to Fast Forward the paused spot a second or two and then press play again. Then it will work fine again. This happens about twice per day.

This never occurs when just watching a live program and when I am caught up to real time. It only occurs when playing a recording or watching a program delayed in the 30 minute buffer.

Any idea or thoughts? If it was a failing HDD, wouldn't I also see this happening even during "live" viewing?

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Transfers - Throughput Discussion cTivo, iPad App, etc.

Want to get a nerdy discussion going on transfer rates. Here's some data I have to start.

Using cTivo on my Mac with video format set to Decrypted Tivo Show. I downloaded a 6.37 Gigabyte 1 hour, HD TV show. According to my Tivo Roamio under:

Settings>Network>ViewNetworkDiagnostics>ViewTransferHistory> VideosCopiedToRemoteDevice

Throughput was 69.62 Mb/s and took 12 min 11 sec to transfer the 6.37 GB file.

On my iPad, the file size for same show at best quality is 1.11 GB and will take over an hour.

Why can I transfer a file 6 times the size to cTivo in 12 minutes with absolutely no disconnects but it takes over an hour for iPad app and will likely disconnect several times requiring me to restart it?

Both my 2010 MacBook Pro and My iPad4 are on same N Network. Experiment was done on the 5 GHZ connection band.

One Pass ?

Well I'm trying to understand this, but I don't think I get it

"Rent or buy" include?

Can anyone tell me what that might mean please?

20.4.6 big problem

So my box got the update today, and I haven't really used it any, but I went to transfer a show to my premier from the Romio, selected it ( a pre-recorded show) and it began transferring, and all of a sudden I got an e-mail from Amazon saying I had purchased that show!!!! Amazon was able to refund me, but obviously this is NOT what was intended. I've deauthorized the tivos' from the account for now, but this is really really bad.

Series 2 stopped changing channels- not the IR blaster

I was able to test the IR blaster with a second Tivo (and tried its blaster on the first Tivo) and they work- just not with the first Tivo. I also rebooted and went through channel changing settings (auto and manual) without any change.

What else could cause this issue? How fixable is it?

'Fortitude' - Artic Circle murder mystery

It's airing in the U.S. on a digital channel called Pivot TV.

This show is also airing on Sky Atlantic, a satellite channel in the U.K. and other countries.

Cox V58 Channel Not Authorized

Hi All - Just got my new Roamio Plus. I immediately swapped out the stock 1TB drive for a new 4TB drive and got it up a running using Telemark's guide. Popped the cable card out of my Tivo Premiere and into the the Tivo Roamio and viola I have cable television on the Roamio. WhoHoo.

Except, three premium channels. 1292 EPIXHD, 1300 HBOHD, 1308 WHBOHD.

I am getting the V58 Channel Not Authorized error. Now these channels were tuning fine in my premiere before popping it into the Roamio. I called Cox Support and the CSR tried everything in her power, sending hits to TA and CCs, etc. Checking acct, etc. This was the same cable card in my old premiere. No luck.

Anyone else having this issue? I have Cox in Omaha. I have a Motorola M Card and Motorola Tuning Adapter. I have tech coming on Sunday.

FYI - My Tivo Software version is: 20.4.5c-uSA-6-848

Thanks

Terrible RMA Process

You can read about the first part of my Roamio nightmare over in the help thread under "My Lifetime Nightmare" (it won't let me link yet) but now I have a new and equally frustrating problem.

I got 2 slide remotes with my roamio and neither of them would pair, so they said there was a problem with the box and sent me a new one. It has not yet arrived, but I noticed today that my existing Roamio is telling me that it has no service. I called and was told the lifetime had already transferred to the new box, which is an understandable automated process, however I was confused as to why it would disable mine without some sort of grace period.

I had just finished transferring all my recorded shows from my premiere and my HD to this one to replace them both. I asked how I would get the recordings off the old roamio and onto the new one and they told me I COULD PURCHASE A MONTHLY PLAN FOR IT!!! I was shocked, surely this was a mistake. No company's return policies and procedures could be this screwed up. They said I could call back within 30 days and be refunded the service, but I was still just completely befuddled, how could this be happening.

The CSR apologized and I asked for his supervisor, I got someone named Josh and Josh was a complete jerk. I won't recount the whole conversation, but at one point I told him if he couldn't get this worked out I may just cancel all 3 of my tivo's and return this one and be done with it, his response was "I'll get you over to cancellation immediately". Wait what?

I can't believe that a company would treat their customers this way. I've been with Tivo since 2001, and never had any problems with them until now. Has anyone else had similar bad experiences?

Elementary S03E12 "The One that Got Away" 29 Jan 2015

I thought that was a great ending to the Kitty storyline. At the beginning of the season, I wasn't too fond of Kitty, but she definitely grew on me over the past few months and I think Ophelia Lovibond (what a beautiful British name!) did a fantastic job with the character.

One part of me is sad that she will no longer be on the show (though I imagine she might pop up in the future), but at the same time, I realize that the show is really about Sherlock and Watson.

Mini using moca, no POE filter, v70?

So, installed my Roamio Plus yesterday. Easy. Go to setup the mini using Moca that was created by the Roamio.

The mini updated once or twice. When doing guided setup it just reports that there is no Host DVR found. Tivo is saying it is because I don't have a POE Filter. Could that be?

Anyone know if there are any stores that sell them? Or if I go to a comcast service center, do they sell them there?

Parenthood Series Finale - 01/29/2015

I'll be careful with spoilers since it just aired last night, but I really enjoyed the finale. I know this type of show is not a huge cup of tea for many folks on this forum, but I will really miss this show.

I think they did a great job with all of the story lines.

Gosh, it's hard to talk about it without wanting to spoil.

Anyways, one of the real bright spots for me is seeing a comedic person such as Ray Romano take on and just nail a dramatic role. Hopefully his arc of being an adult who realizes he has Asperger's will help raise awareness, at least a bit.

Spoiler:

I called them killing Zeek months ago. My wife insisted they wouldn't do it, but they did and I think they handled it well. Using the flash forwards to show moving on from a death and that people move on and continue to grow was bittersweet.

Spoiler:

It was awesome to see Max's big smile at his graduation

Spoiler:

I'm glad Crosby decided to give the Luncheonette a go on his own. I knew that would be the case

There's some links to interviews with Jason Katims who discusses a lot of the decisions that went into the making of the finale.

This will obviously have spoilers, so don't read them until after you have watched:

Rebooting while watching a recoded program

What would cause a Roamio pro to reboot while watching a recorded program?

How much energy does standby mode actually save?

I see from the release notes that there are new "power saving options" in the settings that will put my Roamio Plus into standby mode automatically after 2 or 4 hours of inactivity. I've never used standby mode before, and I'm curious as to just how much power the standby mode actually saves.

internet keeps going out

I just got my MoCA adapters and hooked them up as instructed in the thread with the pictures.

All is working well, as in, internet comes on, Tivo minis are connected.

There is just one SMALL problem.

The internet has disconnected about 7 times in 3 hours. It just keeps going out and rebooting and then coming back on.

This is not going to work long term at all.

What might be the issue?

Thanks,

Dawn

Is it possible to get 720p output without HDCP?

Was thinking of hooking up my old school Sanyo 720p projector for the superbowl but it only has a DVI/component/composite input and no HDCP. Any way to get it to work with my TiVo Premiere in HD?

I believe the answer is no but thought I'd confirm.

If not, how about dual video output? I could have HD on the TV and non HD via the projector?

Thanks.

Music player plays wrong file

Anyone else seen this? When playing MP3s on a Roamio from a networked PC via Tivo Desktop, very occasionally the song played is not the file displayed in the player app. When I have checked, it seems to be one file off... ie., the player plays either the file before or after the displayed file.... usually it is playing the next file. When this happens, skipping forward or backwards in the list of files does not seem to restore synch. Exiting the player and re-entering (eventually) does.

This happens maybe once in ten player sessions, if that. It is very inconsistent and have never been able to intentionally duplicate it.

Charter, Cisco 1520 and STA1.0.0_1520_LR_F.1901

Does anyone know of a case where Charter supplied STA1.0.0_1520_LR_F.1901 software for a Cisco 1520 TA? I have an open FCC complaint and I really need a case to site where they did actually push this code.

V20.4.5 power saving mode

I just tested the power saving mode with a watt meter (Roamio Plus), with high power saving checked I am saving about 3 watts, I do have a 2Tb drive in the unit so the wattage goes from 27 watts to 24 watts. Can someone confirm that. This is a savings of only 3 watts, it does not seem that it would matter that much.

Is my hard drive going or Tivo firmware issue?

20.4.5c-USA-6-848

Above is my firmware. My Roamio is freezing every several seconds with no volume. This doesn't just happen during viewing, but it also happens when scrolling the menu and settings. I've restarted it several times and it's still doing it.

Damn, now I'm reminded why Tivo isn't such a good deal when you account for all the hard drives you have to replace. I think I had to replace my hard drive 3 times during my series 3 ownership.

TiVo file size units

What are the units of file size given by the display when you press INFO while viewing a recording's description? It's marked "GB" but is GB gigabytes (10 to the 9th) or gibibytes (2 to the 20th)?

TiVo IR adapter? Nowhere to be found

I need to pick a couple of these up and now noticed that they aren't even available on TiVos website anymore. Anyone have an extra or 2 they would like to sell? Thanks!

6TB tivo Upgrade

How Erase Tivo Drive

Question about FiOS TV/MOCA/Tivo

I posted this in the dslreports forum, but am also posting here to the Tivo experts:

I've been a FiOS Internet subscriber in the Portland, OR area since about 2007. I'm not sure of the exact type of ONT on the side of my house, but I know that the WAN connection is over Ethernet. About 5 years ago (cancelled FiOS TV 3 years ago) I did have FiOS TV and the video was over coax, but the WAN was still over cat5. That's the background, now my questions......

I am about to install a new Tivo Roamio with 3 Tivo Minis along with one Frontier provided DVR. I use my own router and have no interest in using the Frontier provided router with the MOCA bridge. This is what I'm planning on doing and would like to hear feedback on this:

I am planning on creating a MOCA network using the Tivo Roamio's built-in MOCA bridge. The Tivo Roamio, Tivo Minis, Frontier DVR and Frontier ONT (video) will all connect to the MOCA network via coax. The Tivo Roamio will connect to my own router using Ethernet. The ONT WAN connection will remain connected to my router via Ethernet.

From all my reading I believe this should work. Am I overlooking anything.

Thanks.

Anyone ever add NAS capability to a Series 2?

I have a Series 2 and I want to know if anyone has a hack for it so I can use it as NAS in addition to a regular TiVo. Thanks

Suggestion: Change the default thread age cutoff

I am a new user to your forums. I went to the TiVo Underground subforum and there weren't any threads except for a few stickies. I discovered this is because my thread cutoff was set to the default, which in your forums does not show old threads. For example, the newest thread is almost two months old. It took me a while to figure this out. I have remedied this on my end by changing my thread cutoff to 'Show all threads'. I don't know what the solution is here but I think it would help to increase your cutoff or notify users why they can't see any threads. Thanks

V20.4.6 is now out came in last night

I just got the new software 20.4.6 on all my Roamios and Minis last night. the new software does have this new one pass and a new power saving mode for standby, a quick test and the unit goes to sleep, but the wake up takes about 5 or so seconds. I have to play with this One Pass more as it add a lot of extra stuff to what was the season pass

Good luck to all.

Anybody gonna pre-order this drive?

Surely someone here can Macgyver an image to get this to work with the Roamios:

Has anyone done a transfer of Lifetime Service recently?

I have a Series 2 that has lifetime service. However, it died. I'm wondering if I could upgrade to a Roamio and transfer the lifetime service to it.

Has anyone done this recently? What happened? What was the cost? etc.

Thanks!

Arrow - S03E11 - "Midnight City" - 2015-Jan-28

So, the wound seems to have moved down from the bottom of his pectoral to perhaps a bit above his kidney.

Also, now they claim that Oliver was just lucky to survive? Nothing special at all happened? WTF?

Even if the sword wound miraculously missed all organs and arteries, and even if he only actually spent a few hours on the cliff (rather than a couple days as it seemed), look how freaking far he fell! This picture shows a fall that is in no way survivable, and it has already zoomed to less than half the distance of the actual fall (if I showed it from the top of the cliff, you cannot even see his body it is so far).

New Tivo App does not allow streaming of some shows while at home

The new Tivo App (Blue and White) is selectively restricting the streaming of shows to the iPad.

Some shows can be watched on the iPad, others have it shaded and not available.

Connected to the same Home network as Tivo Series 4, and watching from home.

I signed out, then signed back again. Repeated the setup. No fix.

Channel Pixelation

I just replaced my Tivo Premiere with a Roamio Plus. Certain channels are coming in distorted and others are fine. I had the cable company come to the house and they tested the signal. They showed that with their equipment the Signal and RS Corrected/Uncorrected were just fine on the frequencies the Roamio was complaining about. Tivo has performed a RMA, but I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar issue. I am concerned that the new Tivo I receive might have a similar issue. For what it is worth I hooked the old Tivo up and the issue went away, but I really want to use the Roamio with Minis instead of multiple Premieres.

To Rip or Not to Rip: China Beach

So I freely acquired a box set of the China Beach series.

I have a recollection of passively watching it when it aired (I was around 10-12 or so)...but I don't remember if I liked it or not.

I do enjoy military type shows.

I don't have a DVD player other than the laptop I would rip it from, and I don't watch tv/movies on my laptop.

Worth ripping?

What say you?

The big news this release is that OnePass replaces Season Pass, and puts links to streaming videos into My Shows so you can watch every episode -- recorded or not. I previously posted detailed information about OnePass functionality here:

http://ift.tt/1EQ3Miz

I know some people are worried about the change that prohibits getting more than one OnePass for a show. Continuing to allow this added a lot of complication as we made the changes to support streaming video options. OnePass will let you record on “all channels” or one specific channel. If you were using two Season Passes so that you could have different recording options on different channels, here are some things you might consider:

1. Get the OnePass for All Channels, and either mark the important episodes “Keep Until I Delete” after they record, or delete the ones you don’t care about.

2. Get the OnePass for the channel you really care about. Turn Suggestions On, and give the show 3 thumbs up. Any episodes that record on other channels (as Suggestions) will show up in your OnePass folder. You can watch the episodes, mark them “keep longer”, or let them come and go as disk space is needed.

Here are some other changes in the release:

- Ability to add a link to a streaming movie and have it appear in the “Streaming Movies” folder in My Shows

- Updated Amazon Instant Video app (with Amazon Prime) will be available on TiVo Premiere boxes

- If you are running the 3.5 version of the TiVo app for iOS, you will be able to “move” shows that were recorded on your DVR from copy-protected channels. (Once the download has been completed, the original recording will be deleted from your DVR. Downloads must be initiated while on your home network.)

- New “Power Saving” options for TiVo Roamio boxes (Settings > Devices). There are multiple options available. For the biggest power savings the box will wake up for user-scheduled recordings, and will only record suggestions during the “awake” period. For somewhat less power savings the box will wake up to record suggestions.

- Three additional screens are now available in “HD Menus” style: “Set Up a Manual Recording”, “Find by Time”, and “Find by Channel”. They are located under TiVo Central > Manage Recordings & OnePass.

- Amazon Instant Video now appears alongside other apps in My Shows

- Fixed the issue where some Mini customers would see a V87 error when they tried to watch an episode that was still recording on the DVR

- Fixed an issue where some customers would see a blue spinning circle when trying to create or update a Season Pass (now OnePass)

- Fixed an issue where duplicate recordings were happening when a user deleted a single episode from a Season Pass (now OnePass) and created a manual recording instead

- Fixed a problem where modifying a Season Pass in SD menus would set it to record on “all channels"

For those not on the priority list, I expect the full rollout to be complete by the end of February.

Up Next: Our 2015 Spring release will make VUDU available on Premiere boxes.

Dual Survival 2015

So we are into a new season of Dual Survival, and Cody Lundin is gone. I still don't get the big blow up that was supposed to have happened, but I never thought Cody and Joe had a good chemistry.

I am really liking the new season with Joe and Matt Graham. While previous seasons had Joe as a stubborn hot head, he seems to have a respect for Matt that he didn't have with Cody. And that respect makes for a better show, IMO.

Instead of just saying No, Joe actually takes a minute to listen to what Matt is saying. Of course it helps that Matt presents his thoughts in a calm manner, where Cody would try to go head-to-head with Joe.

Looking forward to this season. I almost gave up on it at the end of the last one.

Vudu and Amazon Prime Streaming on Mini

Are either Vudu or Amazon Prime Streaming available on Tivo Mini? If yes to both or either, does it matter what type the main TiVo is? (ie, Premiere vs Roamio)

TiVo HD w/ Lifetime Service

Hi! I'm selling a TiVo HD with Lifetime Service - $200.

Unit is in good shape and has treated me well.

Please DM me if interested.

Photo Display Gone

I have a Premier 4 connected via Ethernet to my home network. I have viewed pictures from my PC through the TiVo many times, but last night when I tried my pictures didn't show up. I get the menu with Pandora and Spotify, but nothing on my network. I tested the network and it is working just fine, as is the PC.

Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? I also just tried republishing my photos via Desktop Plus but no joy from that either.

SOLVED! I just figured it out - my PC was not allowing network devices to connect. I have no idea how that happened, but I'm so happy that fixed the problem.

The Flash S01E11 "The Sound and the Fury" - OAD 27-Jan-2015

So we finally got confirmation on what we all suspected. Harrison Wells is the Reverse-Flash. Also, is this the first time the Speed Force was mentioned?

However....

Spoiler:

Tom Cavanaugh has said in an interview that he's one of the Reverse-Flashes .

The Pied Piper was just meh. I like his back story and his involvement in future plots, but he shouldn't have given Flash much trouble. I mean Flash has been proven to break the speed barrier, and that should be the limit of any sonic weapon, right?

With the Mini, why have multiple DVRs?

I have a TivoHD on my bedroom TV that is sounding like the hard drive is about to fail.

I also have an XL4 on my main TV which is doing just fine.

So, this morning I set out to replace the TivoHD. I decided on a Tivo Mini. It's only $149 and includes lifetime service. I can't figure out why anyone would own multiple DVRs now that the Mini is an option for 2nd, 3rd, etc TVs.

Besides the fact that it is insanely cheaper than a new Romio with lifetime ($598), it has no moving parts (ie. Hard Drive) and will probably outlive me. Right?

Why would anyone opt for a 2nd DVR?

Where does mini get it's guide data?

Just curious. Does Tivo Mini store guide data locally in memory or is it pulling it from the host DVR?

Partial Recording

Had new show, “All-American Makers” on Science channel (1102 an SDV channel) set to record Wed, 1-21-15. The 1 hr. Show recorded partially only. ~ 23 minutes. Nothing was in History. I noticed it was repeating later that night so set it to record. TiVo again recorded a partial, this time ~ 18 minutes. Again, nothing in history re this failure.

I wondered if I lost the ability to record SDV channels so picked another SDV channel 1101 or 1103 & set to record & later saw it recorded a partial of that show as well!

I waited a few days & on 1-24-15 I tested by recording channels 1102 & 1057, both SDV & this time it recorded perfectly.

Tonight 1102 s/b recorded again for the 2nd episode of “All-American Makers” on Science channel. Hopefully, it will record. (I was unable to find another repeat to see the last 37 minutes of the 1st episode I missed due to TiVo failure 2x)

So, what happened & why? I suspect my tuning adapter but am not sure. I searched the forum & read several threads from 2006 & up to 2010 on similar issues with no solution or explanation.

My HDD is ~ 23% full. I watched the 23 min partial & it was the 1st 23 min w/o jumping or interruptions.

New iOS app released today

OP note: I merged my thread with my other thread. Info on the new iOS app is here. http://ift.tt/1tnWAZD

New iOS app released today

Well a new iOS app update was released today. Here are the release notes.

What's New in Version 3.5

We are bringing some improvements to your experience:

- We have added a new tutorial for What To Watch to help you make the best of its customization features and added a new filter to the What To Watch Movie feed to help you personalize which type of movies you'd like to watch.

- We have consolidated our search functionality to support searching across TV shows, Movies, Cast & Crew AND Channels now from any screen in the App.

- We have also made some other general improvements and bug fixes

In addition to these improvements, our updated App is ready for the upcoming Series 4, Series 5 DVR and TiVo Stream software update (20.4.6) coming in February. The new software release includes our new OnePass feature (DVR) and allow you to download content marked as premium by your service provider (DVR and/or Stream). Once your DVR or TiVo Stream updates to the new software release, the App will automatically support these features.

OnePass, which replaces Season Pass recordings, gathers every episode of a series and adds them right to your My Shows list. If an episode isn't available to record, OnePass shows you episodes from On Demand, Netflix, Amazon Prime and more.

Stay tuned to our blog (http://blog.tivo.com) for the formal announcement of its availability!

With your TiVo Roamio Plus, Pro or TiVo Stream updated to version 20.4.6, you will be able to download all of your favorite programs to the App, even when recorded on premium channels.

Due to copy-protection requirements, initiating such download will only be possible from home and the original recording will be deleted from your DVR.

Justified "Cash Game" 1/27/15 S6E2

Like Shakespeare in Harlan County.

"I'm not following you."

“I shoulda choked his cowboy ass out and left him for dead on the side of the road. But then I figured, someone drives by and sees I’d have to kill them. You know, and then somebody else drives by and sees, then I’d have to kill them. Then, you know, another car drives by and sees and I’d have to kill them…you know.”

As soon as Dewey departs this vale of tears, we get Choo Choo to replace him.

And the Raylan/Tim dialog is as good as it gets.

Oh, and if Boyd & Raylan aren't careful, they'll find Ava playing both sides against them.

Was that the first time Sam Elliott's upper lip has seen the light of day?

I know it's the right time for this show to wrap it up, but dang I'm gonna miss it.

Downton Abbey season 5 (spoilers through most recent PBS episode)

Thought I would start a discussion thread for any comments on the current fifth season of Downton Abbey as it airs on PBS.

A note on thread etiquette: since a lot of people have probably seen the whole season already, please note that comments about episodes that have not yet aired on PBS are not welcome. (Feel free to start a thread to discuss the whole season if you'd like.) This includes even spoiler-tagged comments and oblique references to things coming up, like "I really can't wait to talk about what happens next week." Thanks for being respectful.

Tivo Removing Case

I have removed the case to my TiVo to install a HDD and its really pretty simple. I do notice that when I put it back on however it becomes tricky. The front part seems to line up ok but the sides can stick out and appear not flush. Is there a trick to doing this on a Roamio Plus?

Thank You

TiVo roamio ota - can I use formatted hd for upgrade

I just received my roamio ota and would like to upgrade it's harddisk. I understand that this is really easy if I use a brand new drive but I would prefer to reuse a 1.5 tb drive I already have. This drive is currently formatted for windows.

Can I just put this in the roamio and will it sort itself out or do I need to do something with the the drive first?

HELP-- TivoHD HDMI issue post-hack

I apologize that I also posted this to the dealdb forum because I wasn't sure which one is appropriate. Please let me know if I'm posting incorrectly.

I have an eProm hacked TivoHD. It has a 2tb WD drive in it (limited to 1.2gb or so, as I recall, but it's been a while). I hacked / put in place a replacement initrd a couple of years ago. Everything was working previously.

Before doing anything today, everything was working fine.

So I took out the drive, followed these instructions to install the hack again: http://ift.tt/1v1sMmG (I added the . before the command that it is missing it, and created a rc.sysinit.author file, which are corrections that need to be made to the instructions.

After the installation, the TiVo booted fine and I was able to telnet into it. At this point, I hadn't screwed the hard drive back into the TiVo yet, or put the cover back on. So I shutdown, and did those things.

Then, when I booted up again, after the initial "Warming Up" screen, I get a black screen. I've tried reverting to my backed up sda3, but still the same problem.

Interestingly, I happened to try a component video cable, and the TiVo seems to work fine on component video, just not on HDMI.

My conclusion: Somehow, I corrupted the kernel during my upgrade process, and I need to restore a good copy of /dev/sda3

Thoughts? Any idea how I get a good copy of /dev/sda3?

I still have my original TiVoHD 160gb drive, which, I assume, if I put in the TiVo and leave for a while, will get upgraded to the current version of the software. Can I then just dd the /dev/sda3 or /dev/sda7 from the 160gb drive to the 2gb /dev/sdb3?

--> C

Charlie

P.S. Because of some recent fairly tragic events in my family, I don't want to lose some of the recordings that are on the drive. There are some recorded news shows relating to our family tragedy.

Firmware problem again?

I just noticed that the first of the back to back Doctor Who episodes on BBC America didn't record tonight and the history says "not authorized". The 2nd showing on the same channel (but with one minute overlap on the recording times) worked fine. Since that 2nd recording will have used a different tuner, this seems suspiciously like the firmware problems we used to have all the time.

I just got a new cable card (because the old one died). This new one says it is Cisco Model 0803 version 0010 running PKEY1.5.2_F.p.3001 Build time Apr 12, 2011. (The new firmware showed up as soon as I plugged it in the first time).

Anyone know if this is supposed to be a "good" version?

I suppose I could dig up the magic codes for reducing the number of tuners and see if the problems go away...

Internal Stream unreliable, keeps crashing/restarting

The internal Stream in my Roamio Pro seems to be going bad. From what I can tell, it is always restarting, which interrupts anything that's going on (streaming, downloading, etc.). This adds up to a frustrating experience because I can't get through a single 30 minute show, in my house, without multiple interrupted streams, waiting for the Stream to reset and resume. Trying to download is a similar exercise in frustration.

This used to be near rock-solid, and I'm pretty sure it's not my home network (no changes recently).

It's currently running 20.4.5a.stream-USB-6-Z. Has anyone else had a similar experience/problem with their Roamio's internal Stream?

Minis say all tuners in use, but all tuners aren't in use

I can't watch Live TV on either of my Minis. The error message says all tuners in use even though the Roamio Plus is only recording 5 shows.

However I can watch live tv on the Roamio Plus.

To make sure the Roamio isn't using the last tuner, I switch to a recorded show on the Roamio and press pause. But I still can't watch live tv on either Mini.

I go into the guide on a Mini and select a program to record and it starts recording! What happened to all tuners being used? :D

Suggestions? Thoughts? I figure the solution is a reboot/reset of the Minis and then Roamio if needed. I say reboot Minis first because I am recording stuff right now.

I did notice my Roamio rebooted unexpectly yesterday. First time it did that since I bought it last July. My 8 yr old was involved so it remains a bit suspicious. :) It seemed to happen at the same time he turned off the tv.

Girls s401-3

I'm pathologically incapable of starting a full season thread. Sorry.

Who else wants to admit they're watching?

I loved the house hunting. "All this for $200? What can I get for $850?"

I liked Jessa admitting she needed a friend.

Shoshanna is such a dummy. You know she's going to end up needing that job.

Spanish Audio Track

I have been learning Spanish over the last year or so and recently have started watching media in Spanish. Today I suddenly realized that I could probably watch familiar shows dubbed in Spanish and found that I could switch audio tracks on at least a few channels. Problem is, it does not work. Moat recordings give me descriptive audio when I pick Spanish, and one even just played the English track only much quieter. Anyone have any experience with this?

Premiere as a mini with Roamio

Can my Tivo Premiere function like a mini if I buy a Roamio? Would I need a subscription on both?

cancellation 'policy' takes money for *nothing*

I just noticed that I have been receiving an annual charge for a unit that has not been in operation for over 3 years. Shame on me for not noticing the details on my statement every December (buried among the many holiday season charges), but it was a clear mistake and TiVo certainly could make it right. Nope. I'm not sure what happened 3.5 years ago when I initiated my service on the new unit - was it my fault or theirs the old service wasn't discontinued or transferred?, but taking nearly $400 for *absolutely nothing* is at best unethical, and, in my mind, stealing. They have the chance to make it right and credit my account, keeping a customer and keeping them happy. But they won't even offer half measures, only token appeasement (which, in case you can't tell, isn't working).

Turns out my cable company will give me the HW for free *and* charge me less per month than I pay for TiVo. I'm sure the HW is comparable or at least good enough, and anything I can't get through that DVR I can get on my Roku.

See you later TiVo....

Missing What To watch Now?

I don't have the what to watch now on my TiVo plus. I am connected to the internet without a problem. Called TiVo and they say it has something to do with a group number and to give it 5 days and they will fix it?? Is that right?

Thank u

S3 w/Lifetime, Extender HD and wifi dongle for sale

I finally upgraded to a Roamio and want to sell my old S3.

Perfect condition but I don't have the box.

Any interest here? I don't have an Ebay account and I'm too lazy to set one up.

New iOS app v3.5

Noticed the icon on the iOS app had changed this morning. Looks like it's been updated to 3.5. Visually it has a more flat look on all the controlls now, including the My Shows list, so it seems more consistent. It doesn't seem to mention OnePass nor does it support Premium Sideloading, but that may be linked to the version of software on the box.

One ting that annoys me is that it still does not honor the default recording options when setting up a recording or SP. And there doesn't seem to be a way to set them in the app. I tend to use the app a lot to setup new SPs when I see a commercial for a new show because it allows me to do it without having to interrupt what I'm watching. Would be nice if it honored the defaults so I didn't have to change them manually every time.

Verifying number of streams on cable card

Hi I just bought the Roamio Plus and have it connected with TWC using a multi-stream cablecard and tuning adapter. How do you verify that you actually can use the six built in tuners on the Roamio?

TiVo OTA NetFlix Bufferiing issues Please Help.

Is it normal? This red screen of death this buffering wheel that stops what you're watching and tries to catch up.

Here's what I'm running: 22.47 Mbps., Motorola SPV5121 Cable Modem, Linksys N Router WRT160N V2, 75% signal, TiVo Series5 20.4.5.c-USA.

Any suggestions?

Snow Delay - No Roamio for you

It's official. UPS says they will not deliver my new Roamio today. Looking out at 24+ inches of the white stuff in my driveway, I'm not surprised. I've got my CableCard though.

My 11 year old Series 2 died over Martain Luther King weekend. Swapped in the original 40gb I pulled for my 120gb upgrade but still no go. I think it is the power supply. The 12v does seem low.

Snowed in with only live TV! SHUTTER!

resuming play on roamio

I was wondering if I start watching a recorded program on a Tivo Mini, pause the recording and want to finish watching the recording on a Tivo Roamio (host), will it resume where I left off from the Mini, or will it start at the beginning?

Anyone Else Disappointed in their Harmony Ultimate?

Hi all,

I purchased a Harmony Ultimate a few days ago and have been having some real troubles getting it to program like I think it should. For example, by intent a TiVo should remain on 24 hours a day in order to capture content. The Harmony includes a TiVo On/Off trigger by default in a Watch TV "activity" and there doesn't seem to be a way to setup a Watch TV activity without this trigger.

Another example: I want to add an activity to simply change from AV1 to AV2 when the receiver is already turned on. When I try to add this activity, the Harmony, again by default, includes a receiver On/Off trigger and it cannot be removed. I realize that I can manually change the input from the Yamaha receiver device control area, but this requires 5 finger actions, vs one if I can implement it as an activity.

Isn't this supposed to be the "ultimate" remote control?

Chris

Why "Scandal" could use some political diversity on its writing staff

I've really enjoyed the first three seasons of ABC's "Scandal," but now that I'm two episodes into catching up on season 4, the total lack of ideological diversity among the writing staff has become glaring. The "tl;dr" version of it is that the show has two kinds of Republicans: sanctimonious, hypocritical Jesus freaks like Sally Langston; or purported Republicans who are really just Democrats. The longer version, which contains mild spoilers, is at my blog.

Seagate HDD For Upgrade

ST4000DM000 is a 5900RPM Seagate HDD I have in my Tivo now. It seems to be doing good and am planning to put another one in a TiVo. Just wanted to make sure it is fast enough to be in the 6 tuner PLUS. Most use western digital but am I ok?

Kindle Fire HDX: Streaming but no download?

I received a Kindle Fire HDX for Christmas and was happily surprised to see the TiVo to-go app in the app store. After installing, I see that like my iPad, it can stream from my Roamio, but unlike the iPad, it cannot download shows to the Kindle itself.

Not a big deal I guess, with KMMTG, and the backdoor way to load videos. But I do like the TiVo interface when watching shows on the iPad. Too bad not on the HDX, which has better screen resolution.

Is this simply an operating system limitation? I would have guessed that streaming would be more likely to be an unavailable feature, rather than downloading.

Wireless N Adapter: 1 for 2?

My 12 year old Series 2 just died. RIP. It was my backup for my Premiere. I connected to TiVo via the wireless adapter, which I think was the "Wireless G." It connected to the unit with a USB connection.

Question: If I find a decently priced Premiere to act as a backup, can I use my Wireless "N" adapter for both TiVos, or does each TiVo require it's own adapter?

I am connected to the Internet via a slow, but free, Wi-Fi network provided by the home owner's association.

Question #2: I know this has been discussed here many times...but what is a fair price for a Premiere with Lifetime?

WWE Royal Rumble(spoilers)

Anyone watch?

Second year the fans just crapped over the winner. Even the Rock couldn't save Roman from getting majorly booed.

I did like the title match, but disappointed Brock(part time champ) is still holding the belt. Not going to be crazy about a Roman/Brock WM match.

DirecTV with Tivo THR-22

Anyone know anything about this receiver? Specifically using the eSata port to an external drive possible/not, location of manual since not on DTV site? Anyone have one?

Standard Roamio Remote Repair

Can anyone tell me if it is difficult to open the standard Roamio remote that comes with the unit to clean it out.. I was just told by the wife that there was accident and it got wet... Is there any tricks to opening it? Thank you very much... Bob..

One channel keeps freezing: How can I troubleshoot?

I'm new to TiVo but I have a Roamio Pro and it's working great except one channel (and only that channel) keeps freezing.

It might not freeze for an hour, but then it might freeze for a second, and then freeze again a few seconds later.

What can I do to troubleshoot? I looked in the DVR Diagnostics area and that tuner shows 100% signal strength with -40 dB SNR.

Roamio Plus + Mini on FIOS Questions

After a long hiatus without TiVo, I am converting my setup from DirecTV to Verizon FIOS, and am planning to install a Roamio Plus and two Minis. I had a few questions and was hoping to get some insight:

1. Features/Usability: Is there a reason to have the Roamio vs. a Mini at the primary viewing location? i.e., what functionality or capabilities would be lost by using the Mini vs. the Roamio?

2. Wiring #1, Media: My house is about 22 years old and the builder was kind enough to run RG-59 throughout. I have some CAT5e runs and plan to add more. I assume it would make more sense to use CAT5e vs. RG-59 to connect the Roamio and Minis?

3. Wiring #2, FIOS TV: Will the Roamio require a coax connection at all, or would that only be to set up the MoCa network (which I presumably would not be doing)? i.e., can I get FIOS TV solely via the Ethernet connection from the FIOS router? If so, any performance considerations?

4. Wiring #3 (bringing it all together), Location: I currently have RG-6 coming from the ONT (have FIOS Internet, but no TV yet) to my Verizon ActionTec router. It comes into the house at a certain spot in the basement, where I'll be installing a TV. Option A: If the Roamio needs a coax connection, I'll plan to install it here, with the Minis at other TVs in the house (networked via the CAT5e), and likely split the RG-6 between the Roamio and the Verizon router. Option B: If all internal connectivity needs can be accomplished over Ethernet (potentially also changing the ONT-to-router connection to Ethernet, if any benefit), and if more worthwhile functionality is available from the Roamio vs. a Mini, I may install the Roamio at the Family Room TV, where more viewing occurs.

confusion about cableCARDs set top boxes

http://ift.tt/1zd0erO

My cable company uses this DCT700 ALL-DIGITAL CABLE SET-TOP when it doesn't want to use TiVo.

1) without a cableCARD how do these devices decode? Is there a chip? A signal?

2) I thought the law required cableCARDS in the devices used by the companies. There is a confusing statement in the wikipedia article.

Use of the term CableCARD can be confusing, because some technologies refer not to the physical card, but to a device ("Host") that uses the card. Some CableCARD technologies can be used with devices that have no physical CableCARDs.

3) Are such devices inherently limited to standard definition?

4) Why can't I purchase such a device? Is it technical or legal limitation? The retail rental rate is $10/month for a stupid little device like this one.

Switched from Fios...Disappointed

Just switched to Grande Cable Tivo from Verizon Fios. I'm really disappointed in the UI and the remote.

The UI is mostly awful. You have to click click click through too many menus to do anything. For example: quickly turn on closed captioning. Info, click down, click, click, on, Really? Fios remote: one button: click, its on. Click, it's off.

Then there's the program guide. Yikes. Terrible! Hard to read. Where's the color coding, blue for movies, green for sports, etc? Color helps the programs you seek to stand out. With Tivo I have to read each title, and if the program is 30 min it's truncated....blech.

To back out of Tivo Central back to your program, you press "Zoom"?? Really? On what planet does "zoom" equal "back" ???

I've read for years about how Tivo was supposed to be so awesome. Frankly I'm not impressed. It's not user friendly or efficient. I'll be keeping it though because Grande is cheaper than Fios.

I need to find an online guide--might try Titan TV's guide.

Transfer multiple recordings TiVo to TiVo

I'm transferring recorded programs from old TiVo (Premier 4) to new Tivo (Roamio Plus). Both machines are on home network using Ethernet and they see each other. I have successfully copied programs from old to new machine but only one at a time; I have to wait for a transfer to finish before I can select another program to transfer. Seems like there should be a way to select programs to queue for automatic transfer after previous program transfer finishes. Is there any way to do that?

Tivo black screen with sound

I have a Roamo Pro with a wired internet connection. On occasions when I click on a recorded show from the npl a black screen will appear with sound enabled. I can go back to the npl click on the show again and it will start playing ok. I have read where other posters that had this problem but I can not find them. It not the same problem as in the thread.

Success using wireless with Mini

Thought I'd share my success story with those who can't run either an ethernet or RG6 cable between rooms.

I used two Buffalo WZR-1166DHP wireless routers to build a wireless bridge. The routers are capable of the newer "AC" wireless protocol. After setting them up, I connected my laptop and got a transfer rate of 270 mbps between the two wireless routers. Of course, the speed is affected by the distance and obstacles between the two routers - so your results will vary.

I plugged the mini's ethernet port to the back of the Buffalo's router (has 4 port switch). Now I can watch live TV and all of my recorded shows perfectly from my Romio in the living room.

I actually have two apartments in the same building (one is my office and the other is my apartment). I could not run any type of cables directly from one apartment to the other. The distance of the two routers is approximately 80 feet.

Exploring TIVO - Please Help Me Understand

Roameo - Is this really the way to finally cut cable (non-internet) service. I am looking for a way to cut cable, not content, and I started reading up on the Roameo. We watch The Walking Dead, American Idol, American Horror Story, and (her) The Bold and the Beautiful. We don't care about cable channels like HBO.

If I buy internet only service from by cable provider, will I still be able to get the content above. If so, how does it work. The TIVO data says I can connect my cable tv to keep my cable content. Why would I want to do that.

I just want to buy internet only from the cable company, and use TIVO to get and DVR the shows we like to watch.

Is this the way to go?

SciFi

Is there any kind of good space scifi in production? I miss my B5 & StarTreks of my youth.

amazon prime app

Is there an app to watch Amazon Prime movies on an android tablet. I have looked and I couldn't find anything. The only one that I found said that it was for cell phones. I couldn't get a picture on it any way.

Thanks in advance.

Amazon Prime and 1080p Streaming

I know there is a separate thread for Amazon Prime on the TiVo, but it has gotten too large and has too many other general questions/comments.

I purchased a Roamio about a month ago. It is connected wirelessly to my Netgear Nighthawk on 5Ghz AC. I get 50Mbps download with Comcast. It has an excellent connection of between 81% to 88%. I have absolutely no problem streaming 1080p content from Hulu, but with Amazon Prime, I almost never get 1080p. It is constantly only on "HD" with no pausing or buffering. As a comparison, I have an Amazon Fire Stick connected to the same TV, and I almost always get 1080p, even on the same show.

I'm just wondering what everyone's experiences are. Do you ever get 1080p streaming, and is it consistent?

Roamio Plus 6 Tuner Question

Hi All - I am considering upgrading one tivo premiere 2 tuner to a Roamio Plus 6 tuner and replacing a Series 2 with a Tivo Mini. Hoping I can get a decent 10 year loyalty customer price on lifetime service.

My questions are:

Are there any known issues with 6 tuners. I had loads of problems getting all my Motorola Tuning adapter channels to come thru after adding my Moca network in my new home. The Cox Omaha tech determined that I was not getting a strong enough signal to the TA. I am concerned that if I move to a 6 tuner, I will have problems again with signal strength. Does the Tivo amplify the signal internally ? Wondering if others have had any problems with the 6 tuners.

Next, Does the Mini perform well over a MOCA network? I wondered if there was any lag using a tuner on the Roamio for the Mini and if there was any or much of a delay. I imagine there could be some for live TV. Can anyone share their experience.

Also, Is the Roamio harddrive upgrade process pretty straightforward? I upgraded hard drives in all my previous series 1, 2 and premiere tivos. I would plan to replace the 1 TB drive in the Roamio Plus with a 4 TB drive immediately.

I appreciate any feedback,

Thanks

Ken

Help Creating MOCA Network - Roamio Pro

Hello

Trying to understand initial setup - new user - new R Pro arriving next week to be used with cable card...

Condx: Equip location has no wired ethernet available, Coax from incoming broadband data coax going to splitter - outputs one side to modem/wireless/n router other side to equip location for Roamio Pro.

Since I have no wired ethernet available, I think I need to create a MOCA network. However, steps I've read on this site's pdf's regarding network setup seem in conflict...

One says "MoCA network - If you don't have a wired Ethernet connection available to your TiVo devices, you can use a MoCA network instead."

Another says "TiVo Roamio Plus/Pro - 1. Connect the coax cable coming from the wall to the Cable/MoCA port on the Roamio Plus/Pro. 2. Connect an Ethernet cable from your home network to the Ethernet port on the Roamio Plus/Pro.

I've tried to research the steps on the site before posting but still can't sort it out. Can someone clarify exactly how to set up the network? I do want to eventually stream content to a mini in another location where there will be no wired ethernet available at that location either.

Thanks in advance for any help!

why dose the tivo iOS app having so many problems watch on iPad feature?

I am on a different wifi network as I am not home and use the watch on iPad feature and most of the time no matter what wifi network I use except for my home network I get to only watch about 10-20 minutes of a show then it will say error time out or error connection drop or something like that why?

Eat St. on Cooking Channel

this show returns after a long hiatus on January 27 with episode 5.19, "Seoul Food", but it's marked as a rerun on my guide. Heads up for completists!

TivoToGo and Video_TS File

Can a Video_TS file from a DVD be played on a Tivo Premiere using TivoToGo (the free basic version not pro)? Will it be played just like the original DVD with a menu & subtitles?

If not, can the extracted .vob files be played? How can the related subtitles be included?

When the above are played on the Tivo are they being copied and retained on the Tivo's hard drive or are they simply being streamed to the Tivo?

Mini on ebay

New: $49 including shipping from France.

Anyone want to take a chance and get back to us on how it worked? :D

I am thinking stolen.

I remember years ago, probably 9 or so now, I ordered a Directv Tivo and it ended up being stolen and they wouldn't activate it. Thankfully I got my money back.

This looks shady unless I am missing something.

Do you buy the extended warranty?

I have the Roamio and have had it for a couple of weeks now.

Twice it has glitches and I honestly don't know if it is the machine or the cable coming in, but it makes me nervous.

We typically don't buy extended warranties on these sorts of things, but I am wondering if I should.

Getting Recordings Off DirecTV DVR

Hello All

I have some television appearances I made stored on an HR44 DVR that I would like to transfer off the DVR before I finally kill their service. I am planning on using a Roamio Pro with a cable card in its place. I know the Roamio won't interface with the DTV but, could I buy a series 2 and move the programming onto it or its external drive and then move the drive over to the new Roamio?

Thanks in advance!

Very strange YouTube behavior

Bear with me, this is kind of a long story.

The other night I was streaming a YouTube 4K video directly to my Sony XBR850B from my tablet using the Sony's native YouTube app and speakers. My Premiere XL runs through an A/V receiver and surround sound speakers.

When I was finished watching the video I was unable to return to the content from Tivo. No matter what button on the Sony remote I pushed - Options, Home, Return - the stopped YouTube video would not go away.

I initially thought that it was a problem with the Sony and native YouTube app. So I did a factory reset of the Sony, but when it was all done, the YouTube video was still there.

Then a light went off. When I changed the TV's input the You Tube app was gone. So if it was truly the native YouTube app that was the problem it should show up no matter what input was selected. Then I changed the A/V receiver's input to DVD and the DVD player came up on screen. Finally I realized that even if the YouTube app was active on the TV I should still be able to hear the audio from Tivo, but I didn't.

So I restarted the Tivo and everything was good again.

I really can't figure out how this happened. My guess is that the TV's native YouTube app and the Tivo's YouTube app somehow got crossed up but I don't know how in the world that's even possible.

Anyway, if you made it this far, thanks for reading. I just wanted to share this odd experience and if anyone has an insight as to how this happened I'd love to hear it.

ABC tonight, Sat 8PM EST 01/24/15

Anybody happen to know what's on?

With only 5 1/2 hours 'til airtime, both TiVo and http://ift.tt/1clIgS0 are both saying To Be Announced.

Tivo HD "The Tuner was Unavailable"

Hey gang-

Our trusty Tivo HD gave us a shock this past week. Several shows were not recorded, and when I checked Recording History, there was this message:

"This program was not recorded because the Tuner was unavailable. If you continue to encounter this problem, try restarting the TV HD DVR".

Yikes. Well, needless to say I have done a restart and will be watching closely to see that our programs do record- at least when I'm here to check.

I found a few old discussions of this message dating back to Series 2 days, but not much recently. Does anyone have a feel if this might be the early signs of a failing Tivo HD?

Thanks!

Jack Vale: Offline

I never heard of this guy on Youtube. Now he has a series on CNN.

I've watched him twice now and don't find him amusing at all. Apparently the premise is not to bring his pranks to TV so much as it is to follow his family life. Frankly, it's all so heavily scripted it's annoying.

Anybody else heard of him before he went on CNN? Like him? Not?

record in SD but don't display SD channel in guide

I would like to keep the redundant sd channels out of my guide but yet have the option to select the SD channel when recording a season pass or show in order to save space.

For example, I would record many of my kid's cartoons in SD instead of HD to save lots of space.

I might record a few of my shows in SD as well. 60 minutes? Not sure I need that one in HD. Same with Dateline or 48 hours. Lots of closeups of people's faces which is a camera shot that tends to look just fine in SD.

I might record the Australian Tennis tournament in SD as it takes up a ton of space even if I would prefer in HD.

And then some of the other shows the wife and kids watch I might record in SD as I know my wife doesn't care if she is watching in SD or HD and kids don't seem to care either.

Need help - upgraded Series3 and now it locks up periodically

Recently I (finally) upgraded my old Series 3 TiVo by replacing the stock drive with a 1Tb drive (WD AV-GP WD10EURS), and using WinMFS to copy everything from the original drive to it, and it seemed like it worked - except for one thing: now the TiVo (which has always been very reliable) is now locking up occasionally (about once every week or two).

I can fix the problem by simply unplugging the TiVo and plugging it back in, and it's good for awhile.

Any ideas what I can do? Could it be a bad hard drive (that I'd need to look into doing a return/exchange)? Or just bad sectors that I could do something so that TiVo doesn't attempt to read/write those sectors?

Thanks!

A Roamio and Mini on Fios

I am switching back to Fios after being with my cable company for a short while after previously having Fios. When I was with Fios a couple of years ago I didn't have Tivo. However, I got the roamio and mini a while ago and then decided to get a cablecard with Optimum as I didn't like Optimum's multi room dvr. Well, I started experiencing the V58 errors that so many people with the NDS cablecard have experienced. I'm on an old firmware and there jury is still out whether the newest testing firmware fixes it. I just don't want to put up with it.

Thus, I qualify for the new triple play deal and I ordered Fios 50/50 with the new Quantum gateway router and one cablecard. They need to send a tech to the house (not sure why) since I have the ONT etc. from my prior Fios install. The woman seemed to think because I was porting over a phone number.

Anyway, my question is what do I have to do to make sure that I am up and running when the Fios tech is there. I have to assume that the tech probably doesn't know much about Tivo or Cablecards so I will pretty much be on my own.

Reading Tivo's setup is confusing. Reading some threads on this forum is also confusing. I plan on using only Moca. Right now, with Optimum, I have my Roamio Plus connected with the Coax from the wall and an ethernet cable plugged in. My Tivo Mini at the other end of the house is connected via coax as well and sees the Roamio without any issue.

Do I leave this setup exactly the same way with Fios? I'm confused because so many people say that Fios already is set up for Moca. Do I not need to connect the Tivo with the MOca network setting? Does the Roamio not need an ethernet cable plugged into it? I unplugged the ethernet cable from the Roamio on my current setup and it lost Internet connectivity on the box. Internet was not traveling over Moca although it was my understanding is that what Moca is.

Can someone give me a step by step instruction with Fios so that I am ready when the tech comes this week?

setup moCA, works great, but tivo app says not connected?

i have two premiere 4's, and just connected them to moca, with one directly connected to my router via ethernet. transfers are great, except i have no connection to my phone and tablet with the tivo app. how do i get my app to work when both tivo boxes are connected via moca?

NuVision IR Code

Does anyone know what the IR code for a NuVision LCD TV for setting up my Tivo Roamio remote?

Series 2 won't see programming from set-top box

Just moved, new cable company came out, installed a set-top box (STB) for my series 2. The STB does have incoming programming, but TiVo can't see it, there is just the "searching for signal" message.

I have tried running RF cable from STB to TV, that works, I get programming. RF from STB to TiVo to TV: no programming. Same with A/V cables. I have tried many permutations and combinations of these. I do remember to check the tv input every time I change the configuration. Both devices are set to use channel 3.

Cable guy wasn't too interested in helping figure this out, his stuff worked and TiVo is after all "the competition"...

Any ideas what I should try?

Jitter in Playback

This is a weird one. The device is a Premiere XL4.

When playing back, the picture shakes... like someone is grabbing the image and shaking it up and down. It isn't a constant shaking... it'll happen for a second or two, stop, and then start again, with no consistent frequency I can discern.

It doesn't happen with the menus. It started a couple of weeks ago, and it stopped for a little while after unplugging and plugging it back in, but now that no longer works. I have also tried switching HDMI inputs on the TV and changing HDMI cables.

When I transfer the same shows to a PC using TiVo desktop, the show plays fine. It also plays fine when using MRV. This is my parents' DVR... I tested a new hard drive for it last week, and plan to install it tomorrow, but I'm starting to have doubts that this is a hard drive issue given all the evidence above.

Any ideas?

Tivo says Info Ran Out

But it connected and loaded all the data.

TivoHD had not connected for a very long time -could it be indexing?

If yes, wouldnt it indicate that somewhere?

Thanks.

My cable card actually died

I thought these things were too simple to die, but all my TiVo would tell me when I got home was Cablecard error 161-1, and the consensus of all the google searches seemed to be that the card was dead. Fortunately the comcast office was nearby and open till 7, so I popped over there and the guy at the counter actually recognized the 161-1 error code and agreed that the cable card was dead, even more amazing, they had a spare cable card to give me. Got the new one in now, but as soon as I did that it started updating the firmware which looks like it will take a long time. Hope I don't have any problems getting it activated once the firmware is updated.

Help Please, Very Strange 1G Router Problem??

Tivo Stream and Transfer Issues:

Equipment: Five Tivo Devices, Four Mobile Devices, 1 Gigabyte Router, all hardwired via Cat 5 Ethernet In House cabling.

I installed a new Netgear R6250 1 Gigabyte router and my Tivo’s started having problems.

One Tivo only in my Office (within 3’ from Router)

• Streams are very slow: Can not play, keeps giving error messages.

• Transfers are very slow: Runs at .98mbs takes over 53 minutes to stream a 30 minute show, verses 80.7mbs, which took 4.37 minutes for the same HD Best Quality show on Bedroom to Living Room transfer.

Two Tivos, Living Room Roamio Pro & Bedroom XL4:

• Multi-Room Streams and Transfers are fine.

• iPad Streams and Transfer very slow or does not work.

Tivo Desktop, on Windows 7 and/or 8:

•Tivo Roamio to Desktop very slow then stops transferring.

I tried everything (see list below) but nothing worked until as a last resort I reinstalled the old Router (Belkin FSD7234A) 10/100, 2.4Mh.

Wala …. everything works again.

I have checked all the router settings and cannot find any settings which seem to be causing the problems.

I have connected the Office XL4 Tivo with Cat 6 directly to the new 1G router, still does not work.

Questions: Why does the new 1GB router cause the slowness on one Tivo but not the others? What is stopping iPad streaming and the Tivo Desktops from working?

Anyone have any suggestions?

Steps Tried to Solve (with 1GB Router Installed):

1. ReStart/Reset Tivo

2. Power down Start Up.

3. Power cycle Router, Hubs, Switches, and all Tivos, at same time.

4. Installed all new Ethernet cables between Router and Office Tivo.

5. Checked other Transfer and Stream timing on other Tivo’s and computers.

6. Ran Speedtest.net. Results = 66.12Mbps download, 4.34Mbps upload.

7. Ran Tutosoft.com to test LAN Speed. Results = 428.9Mbps Write, 608.2Mbps Read.

8. Changed Network IP Address, changed Static to Dynamic

9. Checked Router firewall settings.

10. Checked Router for the proper ports being open.

11. Connected Office Tivo directly to Router with new Ethernet cable.

12. Verify Media Access Key.

13. Called Tivo Support, but they could not help me.

14. Reinstall Original Router.

android app and season pass

Why cant I change the channel of a season pass on the android app?

Also why when I try to change a setting for a season pass it reverts to the lowest number channel the show is on?
