TiVo and OTA sub channels

Does TiVo furnish the OTA sub channels in their guide. Dish furnishes very few. I would get another TiVo, if I get the guide for all my local sub channels.

Romio Basic w/Stream and MoCo router set up question.

Question for some of you guys who have more knowledge then me. I have a basic Roamio with a stream that are plugged into my router now, and it works great.

I just bought the ARRIS/Motorola SURFboard modem router that has to MoCa ability in it. If I turn on the MoCa, does the Roamio basic connect through the cable to the internet, so do I still leave it plugged into the router?

Thanks for the help.

S03 "fixed" but not communicating

My Series 3 Tivo (w/TA) recordings are not communicating with the Guide after S03 message.

I followed multiple instructions starting Wednesday afternoon, including TA connected, or disconnected, coax connected or not, clearing program and to do list, guided setup, guided setup with tiny tivo, guided setup regular, Guide data connected with successful downloads and more, I'm sure.

The Guide is full through April 12. I can record from there. No SPs possible. No program has any future programs connected to it.

And, immediately after updating guide, TiVo bings and says I have no guide data.

Growl. Any ideas?

AppleTV

Would love to seen a TIVO app for AppleTV. Anyone heard anything about that happening?

Tivo Stream + Apple TV 4

I did a search and didn't find anything related to this, mostly the ability to use the Airplay functionality to sling video the the Apple TV. I currently don't own an Apple TV 4th Generation yet, but am looking into it. Does anyone know if there is a native Tivo app or a way to sideload it to use it almost like a Tivo Mini? Seems unlikely, but it does work on the Amazon FireTV, so maybe there's a possibility. BTW, I own a Roamio Plus. Thank you.

Found this thread in the main Roamio forums, http://ift.tt/1X0RJHY

So maybe we're just waiting for Tivo to release an app, if ever.

Vudu won't run after hard drive upgrade

So I replaced my HD in my Roamio yesterday and everything works but Vudu...tells me I have a hardware error...has anyone seen this? is this a Vudu problem or a Tivo problem? it never even gets to the sign in screen.

Does the Bolt have 18GHz or 9GHz HDMI port?

Spec sheet says HDMI 2.0 and Margret said it can be software upgraded to HDMI 2.0a but this doesn't say much about its bandwidth.

I am guessing its a 9GHz port which can do 2160p60 in 8 bit 4:2:0 and 2160p24 in 12bit 4:2:2. At this point, there isn't any content beyond 2160p24 in 10bit 4:2:0 so 9GHz seems sufficient but set top boxes like to molest the raw signal and output at higher samplings.

1-Can anyone verify if the bolt has a 9GHz HDMI port?

2-What is the output on Netflix 4K? 2160p24 in 8bit 4:2:2 ?

3-How about Youtube 4K? 2160p60 in 8bit 4:2:0 ?

Suddenly Tivo Bolt will not stream to my Android device

All of the sudden, the Tivo Android app no longer streams.

I can see the DVR and access shows. However, it's greyed out when I attempt to "play on tablet".

I've also noticed Streambaby not showing up either.

Any idea on how I can troubleshoot?

Please help. Thanks.

Roamio to computer and Series 3 transfer problems, Comcast?

Lately I've noticed transfers of some HD recordings from my Roamio to my computer (using Tivo desktop) or to my Tivo Series 3 (HD) are not working, it is transferring but only audio, no video. Only HD recordings I've noticed and only certain channels, I've noticed SYFY, Hallmark and a couple others. So far it seems the major network recordings are still working/transferring correctly. I wonder if this has something to do with Comcast changing their output format? I did perform a test, a recent SYFY HD recording does not transfer correctly, only audio, no video. The original show was about 3GB, only about 300-400MB transfers (I assume just the audio is why). Tested transfer to computer and to Series 3 HD. I then transferred an older SYFY HD recording and it worked fine, audio and video. So maybe this has to do with Comcast changing the signal crap? I like to save some shows/movies to computer, if can no longer save HD recordings to computer from most channels will not be happy. And who knows, maybe the major network HD recordings next? Anyone having the same problem?

Buy or Not to buy?

I have a Premiere-4HD which it seems that the harddrive or network card is failing. (Since the last update I am getting a large number of unwatchable recordings, system reboots when it hits a spot.. screen goes blank ..then system reboots)

Was looking at a "BOLT", so logged in to see what the current users think of the device to run into the "TIVO SALE/SOLD" messages.

Is it OK to purchase a "BOLT" and will I get at least 24 months of usage?

OR could I find the Hardware / Guide support gone in less than 24 months? and have a piece of outdated/obsolete tech on my hands?

Survivor | It's Merge Time | 3/30/16 *spoilers*

Wow. Didn't expect that. Well, when I saw there was only 10 minutes left in the recording and they hadn't gone to Tribal yet, I knew someone was leaving, but I didn't expect it before that. I just assumed the medical staff had looked at the infections while they were gathered for the challenge and had cleared them all to go back to camp.

That really sucks, because this was shaping up to be a very interesting Merge. Now it's very possible the rest of the Brains go next. I at least wish Neal would have somehow slipped the Idol to Aubry on his way out. That would have made things more interesting.

New Bolt: can't record two shows at once

Sorry, I wanted to delete this thread but haven't figured out how yet!

TiVo being used as term for "once successful company"

Best old Tivo for OTA?

Currently I use a Series 2 with a converter box to record OTA. I'd like to upgrade to something with dual tuners, presumably a Series 3 or HD.

I'm not interested in streaming, just OTA recording. Plan on replacing the PS caps up front and putting in a larger hard drive if needed.

Is there any of model that's a better choice than the others in terms of reliability , menu response time, or tuners?

I've read that the Premieres have worse OTA tuners than the earlier models, so I'm guessing that there is no point in spending more for a later model.

MRV Connection Issue

My two TiVo Premiers don't seem to see each/won't connect. Here is the configuration:

1. Both are on same account with same MAC
2. Both connect w/TiVo wireless G adapters
3. Signal strength on both boxes is good/excellent
4. Both boxes on same subnet
5. Both boxes connect to TiVo with no issues

Wireless is unsecured provided by condo complex. Had to have both MACs "whitelisted" to bypass I agree.. Screen. Only difference I could find is one network connection is on channel 6 and the other one is on channel 1. Couldn't find anything that says this is the problem or shouldn't be the problem. If it is the problem, I will just bag MRV as I don't own the router and have no idea how or if it's possible to put them on the same channel. Any insight/ suggestions much appreciated.

Cable card Setup with Comcast.

To any future TiVo users and Comcast Customers. Learn from this situation I just had:
I gave a Roamio to a relative, remembering how easy it was to setup the first time I set it up at my home (I had multiple tv devices that I eventually turned in and used minis)...Well I didn't realize that it's not so easy if you have 1 line with DVR service and no other lines connected. They couldn't get premium channels or on-demand working on the Roamio that I used.
The Comcast hotline (not the number on the receipt they keep telling you to call but 877-405-2298) kept saying it was scanned in as a cable box and not a cable card (they said for every cable card...) Don't let them bring in a technician (Unless you really want to, but they rarely know anything).
I finally went in for the 4th time and requested a SECOND cable card not an exchange. Later they'll turn in the other one, but insist on two the first time if you only have one line. After that it paired nicely, got premium channels, but no on demand. For some reason they had the wrong address (small mistake was calling from my phone not theirs). After some initial BS about not the right equipment and only having a 1 way cable card they finally sent the signal to the card for on demand. (make sure the card is on the right address/account number).

Learn from my mistakes.

Pixelation on recorded programs

During playback of recorded programs- I get one or two incidents where the screen pixelizes for a few seconds. No other issues. Happens on all recorded programs. This is a two week old Bolt.

Does Plex on the Premier not have FF/RW?

Howdy!

I'm just starting to use the Plex app on my Premier, and while mostly happy, I'm puzzled that a mostly-modern product wouldn't have video fast forward and rewind. Is this by design or is it a bug?

Going by the controls here, on the keyboard F is fast forward and R is rewind. This generally wouldn't apply to TV viewing because most TV remotes don't have a full alphabet keyboard.

I have the TiVo Slide remote, but the F and R keys don't have any affect on video playback. This seems strange because the full keyboard works for search in Plex.

The arrow buttons work for video skipping (right/left = small skip forward/back; up/down = big skip forward/back), but is there no fast forward or rewind for Plex on the Premier? :confused:

Thanks.

VUDU error 28 Timeout

Anyone else start getting this recently? I have a Roamio Pro and VUDU has worked great for months. Came home from vacation yesterday and I started getting this error.

I also thought I saw a post about a new VUDU app for the Roamios, can this be part of the problem.

Apologies if I missed a post but I couldn't find anything on the subject.

Thanks,
-DPF

'The Blacklist' Female Led Spinoff

http://ift.tt/1UUHgzU

Quote:

NBC and Sony Pictures Television are plotting a spin-off for “The Blacklist” and will air a backdoor pilot this spring, Variety has learned. Famke Janssen has been tapped to star in the possible, female-led series.

Though the network has not made any official commitment to an actual spin-off, should a series be greenlit, it would revolve around Janssen’s central female character, in contrast to the original series, which stars James Spader.

Though plot details are being kept under wraps, Janssen (“X-Men,” “How to Get Away With Murder”) will play a character named Susan “Scottie” Halsted. She will make her debut on the May 5 episode of the flagship series. She will star in the following episode on May 12 — one week before “Blacklist’s” Season 3 finale — which will serve as the backdoor pilot.

random black screen when watching amazon or netflix apps

I've had my bolt for about 6 months now and have been very happy and pleased with the overall experience.....this past weekend I randomly started using the amazon and Netflix apps

I was able to watch 3 or 4 FULL tv shows on the amazon app but then randomly during the 3rd or 4th episode the entire tv screen goes black, tv show stops and there is no audio...bolt doesn't respond to anything unless I pull the power

after the black screen and if I don't pull the power; the bolt goes through what appears to be a series of boot ups (displaying the TiVo "just a few minutes more screen") with eventually the bolt coming back to the welcome screen.....the green light on the right of the bolt stays on continuously during this process

now I can not watch an entire full episode on either the Netflix or amazon app without this black screen occurring.

any ideas what is going on here? is my hard drive going bad? are the apps acting up for some reason? I did upgrade my bolt hdd to the 4tb one recommended here which has been working flawlessly. the random black screen has never occurred when watching live tv or watching dvr'ed shows.

Confused about Bolt streaming.

I know you have to be in your home wifi network to stream live tv off the bolt to the iOS app, but I was under the impression you can stream recordings. Apparently, not? I just tried it and get an error that the Bolts software needs updating for that to work. Can you not stream recordings too?

Gotham S02E16 Prisoners

Nice to see Melinda Clarke signing on with her old pal Ben M. from The O.C., albeit she's being made-up to look a little scary. Throw in PeeWee and the casting is nutty. Even though the show seems a little confused where it's going, I'm hanging around to find out...

Premiere xl4 recovering drive

my hard drive on my XL4 is corrupted. I bought a new drive same size 2tb and run ddrive to copy the old to the new. After 2.5 days it's still copying up to 1.2tb very very slowly. Should I let it run for a few more days?
If not can I make a copy of my TiVo premiere on the new drive and plug into my XL4. Would that work? Do I need to do anything more like calling the cable company to pair with the cable card?

Thanks for the insight.

Maxumum Number of Minis Allowed on an Account?

I have a Bolt and a Roamio Pro. I currently have 6 Minis. What is the maximum number of Minis I can have on my account if no more than 4 would ever be used simultaneously?

Almost there...

I have a Tivo Premier with an HD antennae, no cable card, and a TiVo AN0100 Wireless N Network Adapter.

The problem I'm sometimes having is that when I turn on the TV after it's been sitting for a while it'll be stuck on the blue screen that says "Almost there...just a few more minutes." I have to unplug and re-start to clear it.

I used to do this about once a month, but it would still record shows while stuck in this screen. Lately, it's been doing it a couple of times a week and it won't record shows when stuck in this screen.

I've called Tivo support several times, but they haven't been able to help. Has anyone here had this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions?

The Flash "Flash Back" S2E17 (3/29/16) **SPOILT!**

Hey, if this happened, why didn't Scooby crew remember it? ;)

When did they they change the red to the white emblem? Did we discuss it here?

I'm confused, what did Barry do in the time jump to eliminate "Evil" Wells?

I'm guessing that with Hartley being a "good" guy now, the future was changed during Barry's little jaunt.

It seems that more change is afoot. Re, the promo for next week:

TiVo Bolt cannot Swap Tunners / LiveTv

This only started about 2 weeks ago. But I cannot Swap/LiveTv to the other tuners on this bolt. Not sure if it is a Software problem or not.
I have force updated the software, Rebooted several times, Reprogramed Harmony One Remote, even tried original remote and that doesn't even work. Cable card is is working correctly all streams available and locked on cable signals, records multiple programs at the same time no problem.
Software Version: 20.5.9RC15
Didn't see any threads on the Bolt Turnner Swap

New subchannels not appearing in guide

Hi all, how long does it take for newly added subchannels to appear in my Roamio guide? Specifically I'm referring to GetTV on KOIN channel 6.2 and Decades on KOIN channel 6.3 in Portland. These channels have been active for a few weeks and don't appear in my guide. I did a new scan, and they scan as expected but no guide data.

Thanks for any pointers,

6 Months and no "call home"

TiVo states that for it's accounting purposes that if a PLS unit does not call in for 6 months, it is taken off their book.

In real terms, what does that mean, besides they either wipe out any amounts amortized - or credits they are taking from "advertising" to pay for units with over 66 months of PLS.

Do the units still show on "My Account"

Do the units show active or de-active on "My Account"

Are the units then doorstops - or can one plug them in and start using them again as if nothing happened?

Cable system tivos

So a lot of talk about TiVo on cable system boxes here lately.

Where do those users congregate? A forum somewhere? It would be interesting to read what they say.

Trailer Park Boys Season 10 on Netflix (spoilers OK)

Looks like TPB season 10 started yesterday on Netflix. I'm only up to episode 7 so far. Good to have the boys back. But I have to say, I think they're getting a little too old for this.

Tito Roamio and Tivo Transfer

Have Toast 11 and Tivo Transfer 2.0. Went to transfer a TV video, as in the old days, to Toast in order to cut a CD and save. Tito Transfer doesn't 'see' my Tivo Roamio. Is there a step to 'fix' this or is this function dead?? Had Toast 9 and original Tivo for my last successful transfer.

TiVo's Contract with GraceNote (TMS) ends May 14th

TiVo's Contract with GraceNote (TMS) ends May 14th.

The original 5 year agreement went into effect May 14,2007 and TiVo renewed for an additional 4 year term, taking the contract to May 14, 2016.

Now Playing screen "blinks" every 3 seconds

Has anyone seen this? Lately my Now Playing screen will "blink" every 3 seconds. By blink, I mean all of the words turn off, then turn on. It's kind of a slow strobe. This happens intermittently - I have noticed it mostly in the evening. It occurs on BOTH of my Tivo's when it's happening. Both Tivo's are connected within my home via Ethernet cable to a Cox cable fiber connection (Cox calls it "Gigablast").

It's disconcerting, though not disruptive, in the sense that I can still choose a show and it will come on. Rebooting seems to stop it for a while, but it will come back.

Thanks in advance,

Rob from AZ

Need help with roamio plus and digital channels

Ok, so apparently Roamio Plus will not decode digital tv channels on it's own?

So, you need a cablecard in order to decode digital tv channels? My TV did not so I guess it's smarter.

I live in an RV resort where the "cable" is a redistributed channel lineup taken from a combination of OTA for local broadcast and "cable" channels taken from a DISH TV setup. The signals that are redistributed are NOT DISH per se, but simply a mix of digitally encoded signals. Where can I get a GENERIC cablecard, if that's what's needed here? Thanks!

Putting Mini Where There's No Coax?

I have a TiVo Premiere XL4 and an old Series 2 that we are about to replace with a Romio Pro. We're considering adding a Mini when we get the Romio.

We would want to put it in the kitchen, where there is no cable connection, and therefore no coax connection. Is this going to be possible?

Everything I am reading seems to indicate that the Mini won't connect to the Romio Pro wirelessly, and that we would need to install a moca network in the house. That's easy enough to do with the two TiVos that already have coax available, but it would require having Charter come out to pull a coax line into the kitchen to connect the Mini -- and that seems to defeat the purpose of being able to have TV/TiVo anywhere in the house regardless of whether there's a TV connection there.

Am I understanding this incorrectly?

Better Call Saul S02E07: "Inflatable" OAD 3/28/2016

Overall, I enjoyed this episode, even if it does hit the reset button a bit (we're back to pretty much the same place near the end of last season where Jimmy was trying to tempt Kim into moving into an office with him and his cocobolo desk).

I rather enjoyed the "bright suit" scene with the dancing balloon. Had to look twice to make sure that wasn't the A1A car wash in the background (it doesn't appear to be).

Other little things I picked out:

1. I've actually been to a Hinky Dinky. Omaha-area grocery chain that disappeared in the late 90s.

2. That, the KC Royals shirts, and the "little town by the Kansas/Nebraska border" establish that Kim's from vaguely the area around Omaha. Are they setting up an eventual crossing of paths between a Kim and Cinnabon Saul?

3. The "not flushing" scene is getting a bit of play here, since almost that exact scenario actually happened at our office.

MLB - Check! OOH Streaming still a pipe dream?

Does anyone have any insight into the long long awaited out of home streaming?

Older WD external hard drive with bolt

I just got a new bolt, after a couple of years away from TiVo. I have an older external hard drive from a previous TiVo (the WD one that TiVo supports) however it is an sata hard drive instead of the newer e sata. Does anyone know if this will work with the TiVo bolt if I get a sata to e sata cable (so I can plug it into the e sata port on the bolt). I don't want to bother getting the cable if the bolts don't support the older drives.

It just seems silly to pay for the newer 1 tb drives if I have a smaller drive from my last TiVo that works.

Th New Hulu App has arrived

Hi all, last night I received the new Hulu app on my 3 Roamio boxes. I have an OTA, Plus and a basic. All 3 boxes show 2 Hulu apps now, Hulu and Hulu Plus. I did watch a show, no issues with drop outs. None of the Minis have it yet though even after connections and power cycles.

Comcast MPEG-4 in Bay Area

A while back, I received a notice that Comcast would switch to MPEG-4 on 2/23 in the S.F. Bay Area. To this day, the size of recordings are still as if broadcasts are still in MPEG-3. Can other Bay Area folks verify what they're seeing?

Switching WD external hard drive from tivo HD to Premiere

Is this possible? I have an external hard drive on a tivo series 3 and would like to change it to a premiere. I do not want to save any recordings from the series 3. I just want to increase the capacity of the premiere. When I tried it, it was not recognized but I didn't really do a lot of troubleshooting. I thought I would ask and maybe save some time. Should I format the drive? It didn't show up on a Computer running Windows, but that may be compatibility issues. Thanks.

Daredevil S02 E01 - "Bang"

Well, that didn't go well for Matt.

I still love Foggy though.

Supergirl 3/28/16 "Worlds Finest"

First, that was an absolutely awesome hour of television. I want to make that clear.

That having been said, let me get this straight. Kara can put on a pair of glasses and become unrecognizable to people who know her well. But Siobhan can put on full-body Kiss makeup and yet people know who she is at a glance from across a room. :D

Question About New Bolt Setup & Home Network

I recently set up my TiVo Bolt, and I have a basic question regarding my network.

Other than the Bolt, I have multiple devices connected to my home network, including two Verizon Media Servers, and one media client.

For years I've had the Actiontec Rev. I router connected to my Asus N66U, and it seems pretty solid. In the time I've had this setup, I've added a number of devices.

Would it make sense for me to purchase a Quantum Gateway to replace the current AT I have, and if so, would it be essential to also replace the Asus I'm currently using? Since my current setup is wireless N, and the Gateway router is wireless AC, I'm guessing so.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this.

Signon to Amazon

I've been watching Amazon videos on my Roamio and Minis for several months.

Today when I tried to open the Amazon app on my Roamio, it asked for my email address and password. How do I enter that on my Roamio? Is there some magic sequence of buttons to get a keyboard?

BTW this problem is only on my Roamio. My Minis remember that I authenticated with them months ago.

Rebooting the Roamio didn't help.

No signal on recording failure

Last week my one pass for The Americans didn't record. When I looked in history, it said no signal. Confused, since I didn't see any recording failures on my other roamio. But since this show is broadcast multiple times the same nite, I was wondering why it didn't retry? So even though the first recording failed due to no signal and there was no entry iin My Recordings, the later rebroadcasts were marked as a Duplicate. I know if a recording on an older 2 tuner premiere failed due to a tuner conflict, the later rebroadcast would record.
So why wouldn't a signal failure do the same?

Did anyone get a recording failure last week? I'm on Comcast in west Chicago.

Thanks

WishList Groups - Deleted Wishlist - now my old shows are ungrouped

Surprisingly not much came up for "wishlist group" tips...

I had auto-record set for shows on a "Christmas" wish list.

It created 50 recorded shows in the neat grouping call "Christmas."

After the holiday, I didn't want any new shows recorded, so I deleted the wish list.

This meant that I unexpectedly lost the Christmas grouping for these old shows.

They now are interspersed as individual shows across Now Playing. This is very annoying, as I intended to keep the Grouping there until next year.

How can I re-group these old shows into a new group?

Upgrade Roamio HD with Premiere HD

My setup is: 2 tuners Premiere with upgraded HD (1Tb) in the bedroom and a basic Roamio (4 tuners) (500Gb HD) in the front room , both attached to a direct ethernet connection and working great.

In an effort to save cost I want to replace the 2 tuner Premiere with a Tivo Mini so I can drop the monthly service charge. At the same time I would like to use the 1Tb drive from the Premiere in the Roamio.

My plan is to transfer all the recorded programs I want to keep to the Roamio and then replace the 1Tb drive with the original HD (320gb) in the Premiere and update to current software. Once updated I would transfer shows I want to keep from the Roamio to the Premiere (space permitting) and then replace the Roamio HD with the 1Tb HD I removed from the Premiere.

My question is: 1) Will this process work?, 2) Will the Roamio use the 1Tb drive without doing anything to it prior to installing it in the Roamio (will it reformat automatically?)? If this will not work, what do I need to do to the 1Tb HD after removal from the Premiere prior to installing into the Roamio so it will work?

Thanks for your help!
John

premiere firmware upgrade?

My Premiere just upgraded to 20.5.9.RC15-01-2-746...
strange that it did it just now, no?

anything good or bad about this release? Its not like I had a choice whether to upgrade (did I?)...

Opinions of MLB.TV on Tivo

My mother has a Tivo (System Info shows Platform: Series4) and we were looking at getting MLB.TV so she could watch all of the games from her hometown team now that she has moved away from the area. I've seen posts of issues of rebooting occurring when doing things such as skipping to an inning etc with Tivo and using MLB.TV, but I think those posts were all in 2014. I am looking for opinions on what others have of the MLB.TV service and what we can expect etc.

Also I think I have seen that on the opening day they provide it for free to be able to check out, is that true. I just tried to watch a pre-season game but it appears you have to link it to an account and I assume I have to pay for the service before I can create an account (at least it appears that you have to from what I see).

new feature- bulk show transfer between Tivos

I have not seen a thread on this. very nice feature :D

If you have a Series3, Series4 (Premiere), Series5 (Roamio) or Series6 (Bolt), you can now bulk transfer recordings from the old TiVo to the new. The transfer process is done online, so both boxes have to be on your TiVo account and be networked.

hard drive

With my TIVO Premier powered on does the hard drive continue to spin, or does it only spin when information is requested, or when recording a program?

In other words, does it shut down when not in use?

Tivo slider remote only using 1 battery

Got my Tivo slider remote late last year and notice it seems to be going thru battery fairly quick. When I check the battery with a meter, I notice 1 battery was fully charged and 1 was completely depleted. Swapped the depleted one and again when the remote died only 1 was depleted.

Wonder if anyone have similar experience and if not they should check their battery next time they need to swap new batteries.

Plex and multichannel audio

I use Plex on my Roamio, Bolt, and Minis every day. It seems that just recently (can't figure out exactly when), the Tivos have all started passing only 2 channel PCM to the receivers. I know for a fact that they used to pass 5.1 Dolby Digital. I have made sure that 'enable AC3' is selected in the settings for each device as well. I have also verified that the TiVo still passes DD5.1 to the receiver while viewing other sources.

When looking at the Plex server, it shows that it is transcoding the audio to AAC.

Has anybody else noticed this change recently? I am not sure if this is Plex player issue, a Plex server issue, or a Tivo issue?

Tivo Plan Commitment

I activated my Roamio Plus in September 2015. The pricing is $14.99 per month with a one year commitment.

Will I have to commit for another year in September 2016 to keep the $14.99 price.

Looking at Tivo's web site it looks like the monthly price will be $19.99 unless I commit for another year.

I don't plan on dropping Tivo but I thought the commitment was only for the first year.

Roamio refuses to power on until rebooted

About once a week now, I hit the TiVo button to bring it out of standby (which I always place it in via the menus when I am done viewing) and nothing happens, the box seems dead to the world.

If I pull the power cord and reboot, everything is fine… until the next time.

I get no hangs or spontaneous reboots and don't seem to be missing any timer events.

Software is 20.5.9.RC15.

Any ideas?

Netflix's US Catalog has shrunk by 32% in the last two years

http://ift.tt/25s5Ewu

And you are going to pay more for it:

"Along with a decrease in titles, we might also see a continued rise in price, as Netflix leans in to originals.

Last fall, CEO Reed Hastings hinted at this: "The more we have incredible value, the more we have amazing originals, then we are going to be able to ask consumers for more to be able to invest more," he said."

Guess they have to make real money at some point in time....

Walking Dead | East | S06E15 3/27/16 + Talking Dead *spoilers*

One thing about that episode just made it really boring for me. Sure, there were a couple of compelling scenes, but the rest of the episode had this languid, plodding pace and feel that just had me constantly going for my phone to find a distraction.

Since the episode ended with Daryl getting shot by Dwight, I'm surprised that there's no thread yet. I suspect Daryl will be OK, probably shot in the shoulder or something, but either way there was a lot of blood. And Glenn and Michonne being held hostage isn't a good thing. I wonder where Rosita is. Will she pop outfit hiding and shoot Dwight to start next week's episode?

Who keeps an apple on their night stand and takes a bite first thing in the morning while still laying in bed?

What was with the bruises on Maggie's side/hip that we saw in the shower? When did those happen? Is that the reason for the pain she experienced late in the episode? Will she lose her baby?

Can we contribute to ratings with our TiVos?

Can we contribute to the ratings or retention of a show with our TiVos? We know that TiVo sends some (anonymized) data to the networks of how many people record which shows and how soon after that they watch them. We also know that sort of data has some impact on advertising rates during those shows, which goes into their revenue generation and thus their profitability ot the company and their chances of being renewed. So how do we maximize whatever influence we might have?

Should I perhaps TiVo my favorite shows, then play them immediately afterward with the TV off, and repeatedly over the course of the week?

Just...speculating. Would be interested in any thoughts others might have

V87 Error Code

I live in a condo with a Bolt in the living room and a Mini in the bedroom. The Mini has never worked properly, specifically with maintaining a live TV signal, streaming recorded shows, and playing Xfinity on demand programs. When I select live TV, the stream will only last for a minute or so before showing a V87 error code.

Quote:

LiveTV/VOD Interrupted

The connection to the Host DVR has been interrupted due to a network problem, unplugged device, or reboot.
The Mini is connected by MoCA, the settings on the Bolt are correct, I'm using a POE MoCA filter, and yesterday I installed an amplified coax splitter to see if it made a difference. I'm using the new Xfinity AC router with the Bolt connected to ethernet, getting 89mbps down, 12mbps up according to a speed test.

Since I installed the amplified coax splitter, I'm getting a slightly more stable live TV connection, but it still cuts out and shows the error code after 10-15 minutes.

I can't think of any possible issues other than the wiring itself, but it's all worked flawlessly in the past with Xfinity HD DVR boxes. I love my Tivos (especially after using X1 at a friend's house... yikes...) but the interrupted connection is very frustrating and not worth the hassle.

Any suggestions or advice on how to solve this would be very much appreciated!

Roamio & Uverse worked with Cablecard!

We used to do OTA with Brighthouse internet and Tivo for years (since the original Tivo came out). No problems.

We moved and added Brighthouse cable along with internet because it was a good deal. They gave us a cablecard and Tivo worked perfectly. My love affair with Brighthouse ended when my second bill arrived and my bill tripled. They insisted the deal they gave me was a one month move in special. After much arguing, I got ticked and told them to pull the plug on the entire thing and went with Uverse.

Uverse was hooked up and I plugged in my Tivo and it continued to work without any problems. Months passed and we received a notice from Brighthouse that we were still in possession of their cablecard and we needed to return it. Honestly, I totally forgot that we even had it.

We returned the cablecard and Tivo hasn't worked since. I've read all the posts that Uverse and Tivo simply don't work and that Uverse doesn't even offer cablecards.

Since Tivo continued to work with the Brighthouse cablecard, wouldn't it be possible to just buy a cablecard and have it work with Uverse? I'm guessing it isn't that simple since everyone would be doing that. Any clue why it continued to work with Brighthouse? Just a fluke? We had completely canceled cable and internet and we were not being charged.

Is there anything that will work with the Roamio so we can start getting Netflix and Amazon again? Guess I am going to have to sell my Tivo. Seems like such a waste to let it sit around.

S3 with Lifetime Service

I have an original Series 3 (with the clock) that has lifetime service. Has a capacitor but needs a hard drive. Will throw in a Wireless Network N adapter and Expander. $75. U pay shipping

Pandora

Pandora - we use Pandora on Tivo a lot. Today, we selected Pandora and the screen goes blank and does not change. I tested other internet accessed channels such as Spotify and Plex as well as Netflix and Amazon and they all work as they should. Is there a problem with Pandora? If not, do you have a suggestion to remedy this problem for me?

Let's say the merger rumors are true, and worst case happens. TiVo alternatives?

Lots of "ifs" and conjecture here, but hey, it's the internet so let's lean into the the FUD for a few minutes.

If TiVo merges with or is absorbed by Rovi and then discontinues its retail business leaving us all in the lurch...what are the alternatives to TiVo that are currently on the market and how do they measure up to TiVo and cableco offerings?

Short guide listings...?

Well, this is too weird, and maybe it's a sign that Rovi has bought TiVo.

I was going through the To Do list to make sure things were orderly (and to get rid of redundant recordings), and I noticed I only have a week's worth of guide data - to April 4th or so.

Which was fine, since (not by choice) I have to use Windows Media Center, when I noticed it too is also only up to April 4. I know WMC uses Rovi because Microsoft switched it (but not without issues) from Tribune/Zap2It a few months ago.

Yes, my TiVo has service (PLS) and it made a daily "call" this afternoon (though they seem to be less often - it used to be scheduled every 4 hours, now it seems to be every 12 hours?), and WMC I forced it to be the latest.

How odd... and coincidental?

Crossroads on CMT

Does anyone watch this show? They're rare, and seem to depend on the rock band if they will work or not (Taylor Swift / Def Leppard comes to mind).
Anyway, being a Cheap Trick fan, it wasn't half-bad last night.

MoCA problem in apartment

So I moved into a new apartment (built in 1988). My Premiere XL4 is set up with Comcast that goes through a splitter and shares the jack with my modem and router. I've got a two Minis, one in the Kitchen, and one in the Bedroom. The one in the Kitchen is hooked up with Powerline adapters, and works flawlessly. I tried hooking up the one in the bedroom using MoCA, but it just doesn't work. Temporarily, I stole the kitchen Mini's Powerline adapter, and it works fine. The problem with the MoCA is, there are two jacks in the apartment, and I have no clue where the splitter is, or if there are two separate drops, or something weird. All I do know is that the buildings aren't using a bunch of splitters internally, as there are two cable companies, and they can switch the drops from one tap to the other in the little utility closets on the side of the building. Any ideas for troubleshooting or figuring out how this place is wired, or should I just pay $35 for a used set of Powerline adapters, and get them both on Powerline?

What Benefit Would I Get From a Bolt

What current benefit would the purchase of a bolt get me?

I'm in the process of buying a 4K HDTV. I currently own a Roamio Pro and 4 Mini V1s with which I'm very happy with.

I obviously want to take advantage of 4k viewing, but my understanding that this is only available via Amazon, Netflix, Vudu, et. al. right now. Will the Amazon, Netflix, Vudu apps on my Roamio deliver 4K content? If so, what benefit would a Bolt offer right now?

Also, I could get content via those apps from Roku/Chromecast/FireStick. Again, would the Bolt offer any benefit over those?

Modified TiVo -- no support for you

No skip mode on one of two minis although I've got it on Roamio OTA and another mini. I contacted TiVo and their first response was that's a really bid hard drive in the OTA. You modified the Tivo and we can;t help you. So, yes the Roamio has a 3 TB hard drive, but how does that affect the support for the mini? And why is Tivo making a stink about this now?

Going from TWC to FIOS

Hi everyone. A couple of questions about changing services and I apologize to those who are insulted by this posting just ignore please. To everyone else thanks for your input ahead of time.
A little history Verizon Fios has just finished running all new fiber cable in my area and now the sales people are descending and signing up new customers. We decided to take the plunge and my sales order is for a cable card only. We are not signed up for any special channels HBO etc.
My existing service consist of a Romeo Pro fed by a card and tuner. A two tuner premier networked but receiving OTA only and a Mini sub networked off of my Romeo Pro. My network is all Cat5 cable.
My first question is about whats required to setup my Romeo Pro. Can I keep all of out saved data or do we have to reformat everything. Secondly are their any land mines with this switch that I should be aware of.
I did pick up an verizon actiontec router on ebay so Im saving ten bucks a month on that. The cable card is not cheap Verizon charges 5 a month whereas its only 2.50 a month with TWC .

Any way to do OnePass of favorite baseball team?

I am a Tivo newbie just setting up my OnePass recordings on a new Bolt. I was curious if there is any way to set up a OnePass for something like "every program that has my favorite baseball team" for example. I came across this Tips & Tricks, Brought to You By Roamio article that talks about using collections to do this with NFL football teams. But I could not see any similar collections (football or baseball or any other sport) on the Bolt collection list.

Is there any way to do this? Does the season have to be going on for a team-specific collection to appear?

CTivo export fails most of the time

I'm using cTIVO With a Bolt and when I export to iTunes it fails 99% of the time. I have to go to the export folder and manually drag the file to iTunes. Any suggestions?

Tivo mini connection too slow during playback only

This problem seems to have coincided with the recent upgrade allowing the "skip commercial" feature during playback. May be coincidence, may not. Just putting it out there.

Anyway, I have a simple Roamio and mini setup. The Roamio is connected to my home network wirelessly, and the mini is connected directly to the router via Ethernet.

I can watch live TV through the mini without any issue. However, when watching a recorded show on the mini, I get the "V69 network too slow" error so frequently as to make watching recordings on the mini impossible.

As I stated above, this is a fairly recent problem, as I used to be able to watch recorded shows on the mini without any issues. Nothing had changed in my network setup. When the error started happening, I did go in to the router settings and assigned the DVRs priority, to no avail.

As you would expect, I have no issues watching recordings directly on the Roamio.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Mind RPC PartnerID x does not have access to operation offerSearch

So I figured out how to write a node.js tls connection to the TiVo using this code:

Code:

var tls = require('tls');
var fs = require('fs');
process.env.NODE_TLS_REJECT_UNAUTHORIZED = "0";

var options = {
        host : "192.168.1.1"
        ,rejectUnauthorized: false
        ,port : 1413
        ,pfx : fs.readFileSync('c:\\temp\\xxxxxxxx.p12')
        ,passphrase : "xxxxxxxx"
        ,ca : [fs.readFileSync('c:\\temp\\tivo.ca'), fs.readFileSync('c:\\temp\\tivo.int')]
        ,secureProtocol: "TLSv1_1_method"
};

var sessionID = Math.floor(Math.random() * (2612256 - 2539520) + 2539520).toString(16)
var eol = "\r\n";

var header = "Type: request" + eol;
header = header + "RpcId: 1" + eol;
header = header + "SchemaVersion: 17" + eol;
header = header + "Content-Type: application/json" + eol;
header = header + "RequestType: bodyAuthenticate" + eol;
header = header + "ResponseCount: single" + eol;
header = header + "BodyId: " + eol;
header = header + "X-ApplicationName: Quicksilver" + eol;
header = header + "X-ApplicationVersion: 1.2" + eol;
header = header + "X-ApplicationSessionId: 0x" + sessionID + eol;
header = header + eol;

var body = '{"type":"bodyAuthenticate","credential":{"type":"makCredential","key":"0123456789"}}' + "\n"

var firstline = "MRPC/2 " + header.length + " " + body.length + eol

var client = this;
client.socket = tls.connect(options, function () {
        client.socket.setEncoding('utf8');
        client.socket.write(firstline + header + body);

        var data = "";

        client.socket.on('data', function (chunk) {
                data += chunk;
                console.log(data);
        });

        client.socket.on('end', function () {
                client.socket.end();

        });

        client.socket.on('error', function (err) {
                console.log("Error during TLS request");
                console.log(err);
                client.socket.end();
        });

});

Sure enough it responds with:
Code:

MRPC/2 75 119
Content-Type: application/json
IsFinal: true
RpcId: 1
Type: response

{"message": "Authentication successful", "status": "success", "type": "bodyAuthenticateResponse", "mediaAccessKey": ""}

However when I try to run this:
Code:

MRPC/2 230 75

Type: request
RpcId: 1
SchemaVersion: 17
Content-Type: application/json
RequestType: offerSearch
ResponseCount: single
BodyId:
X-ApplicationName: Quicksilver
X-ApplicationVersion: 1.2
X-ApplicationSessionId: 0x26f44a

{"type": "offerSearch","title": "The Daily Show","orderBy": ["startTime"]}

I get back:
Code:

{"code": "routingError", "text": "PartnerId 3976 does not have access to operation offerSearch.", "type": "error"}
So my first question to anyone that has experience with MindRPC, does this error message mean that the IOS app doesnt have the rights to do a simple search? Or does it mean I am not stringing my first bodyAuthenticate correctly with my second query to request do the search.

Given its specific about a partnerID I am going to assume the IOS app cert I am using doesnt have rights to search. If that is the case, is there another way I can search for a show name? I noticed kmttg pulls the entire collection (which takes a long time), is that the only way to get the data?

Could someone help me with what command is needed to pull all data if that is what is needed (I will cache it locally every "x" mins if needed).

Finally while I have your attention, do you know the specific rpc command needed to start playing a specific show?

Thanks in advance!!

Successful Series 3 HD upgrade

Hey folks, been almost 8 years since I've been here.

I wanted to pass thanks along to those who have kept the Series 3's alive with HD upgrades.

Following the instructions found here:

And using the WinMFS found at this dropbox link found on this thread:

I was able to successfully upgrade my series 3 from 160GB to 1TB hard drive.

I did not go larger than 1TB because it was not worth the money on a larger drive.

I picked up a Western Digital AV-GP 1 TB AV Video Hard Drive: SATA III, 64 MB Cache - WD10EURX for about $60 bucks.

I used a Windows 7 machine with SATA drive connectors to run WinMFS on it and had no problems at all with the drive swap.

I upgraded the HD because the Tivo seems to double-accept whatever skip or 8 second rewind command I give it with the remote or if I do a skip and then press 8 second rewind it does another 30 second skip (or whatever the last command from the remote was) before doing the command I want. It happens for almost all commands even up/down/select and I thought the HD was dying because of it.

Seems that's not the case. My remote must be bad as the Tivo still does the same thing.

I've certainly gotten more than my money's worth out of it over the past decade. I'll use it until it dies and then consider cutting the cord. I'm already close to cutting the cord anyway. It's a few esoteric sports like F1 that keep me holding on. ;)

Cheers!
TJ

Cases for the Roamio remote

Does anyone know of a company that makes silicon cases for the tivo remotes? Specifically the one used on the roamio.

Recordings now grouped?

Recordings in the "recordings" folder are now grouped. This started sometime in the last day or so.

I can't find any way to turn this on or off.

Ideas? Bug?

Main Roamio is on 20.5.9 and not affected
Mini is on 20.5.6.rc21-01-6-a92 and is affected

Occasional, random audio dropouts

I'm getting some random, occasional audio dropouts on our new Bolt. It seems to occur more often on one of my wife's favorite shows, The Voice, but it also happens on other shows as well.

I had a Roamio before that also exhibited random audio dropouts. I had hoped it would be gone on the Bolt, but apparently it's still hanging around.

My wife is not happy with me since I told her that if we upgraded our Roamio to a Bold, the audio dropouts should be gone.

Anyone else getting audio dropouts on a Bolt?

FYI, on the Roamio, there's a ten page long thread on audio dropouts here:

Recorded SD channel instead of HD

I programmed my Tivo Series 3 to record a basketball game on TBSHD (channel 755 (Comcast)), which I programmed using the Guide by navigating from whatever I was watching the day before (I only watch channels in the 700s) to 755 and scanning forward in time. When I went to watch the game today I found the recording to be in standard def, recorded on TBS (channel 55). I think it's very unlikely that I misprogrammed. Has anyone ever seen this happen?

Is OTA being forced into an early grave?

OK, some random thoughts here that I've had for awhile. Is greed pushing OTA TV towards an early grave just as it should be on the rebound? Personally I've seen growing interest from people looking for cheaper options for TV with more people considering going OTA. Most people who discover what free OTA TV has to offer with a good setup (especially with a device like a TiVo) are pretty amazed. I've helped quite a few friends "cut the cord" and the interest only seems to be growing. So many people don't even realize what's available. If they know OTA TV at all they just think of a few snowy channels that come and go. There does seem to be published data showing something of a trend. Unfortunately though, that data seems to get skewed depending on the source and that source's motivation. So it's hard to know the true numbers and I think that is by design.

So at the same time there is growing interest in free over the air TV, the FCC is selling off even more of the broadcast spectrum as quickly as possible, TiVo is struggling for survival, and competitive products, Tablo, Simple TV, and DVR plus seem to have trouble getting any real traction. It seems to me that those who have competing interests are doing their best to kill off OTA TV as quickly as possible before it really rebounds and gains too much traction to go away quietly.

The FCC/federal government is making billions of dollars selling off the spectrum, pay TV providers want to maintain their virtual stranglehold on consumer choice and eliminate the competition, cell phone companies want to gobble up the maximum possible amount of spectrum etc. That is a tremendous amount of money and competing interests to make them want to at the very least marginalize free OTA TV.

I do realize commercial supported TV is struggling but it is a model that has worked for many many decades and still has a large audience (even if t's smaller than it once was). I think it can remain viable if the offerings remain attractive enough to consumers. And as the commercially supported OTA TV audience expands, so does the ability for them to sell advertising and stay profitable.

I have often felt that if the digital TV conversion had happened a decade earlier, prior to consumers becoming as entrenched to the cable/pay TV we would see a very different television market today. I think we would see more broadcast stations, and even more sports TV being broadcast via OTA. Could the likes of cable channels like ESPN have become a broadcast network? And if we had kept the full television spectrum we had before the digital conversion there would be tremendous capacity for additional stations and even UHD broadcasts. It's disheartening to see that opportunity being eroded. Yes, broadcast TV will likely always have some terrain issues but they can still reach the majority of the US population and innovation may have made more inroads to greater expansion of its reach.

Just curious if anyone else has considered these questions?

Roamio purchased from Amazon

Anyone know if a Roamio Pro purchased from Amazon comes with a year of service or not? The description says subscription required. I thought all new Pro's and Bolt's came with the 1st year. Thanks.

Skip "mostly" doesn't work

Frustrating. I didn't see anything in this forum about it, at least recently, so I thought the problem was with my setup.

The skip feature works with about 15% or so of those pre-recorded shows with the green skip icon under the recordings section. The green skip icon also appears when I start watching the show. Yet most of the time, it doesn't work. Why it works sometimes though, tells me that it's not indigenous to me.

My software is up to date.

A call to TiVo support yielded some info. The CSR actually checked this board for info! They say there's a thread in the Bolt section about it, though I couldn't find it. Support's response was that the networks are lagging behind and have not properly marked the commercials.

Does anyone else have this problem? I am not exaggerating when I say it only works with about 15% of the shows it's theoretically supposed to work with.

kmttg not decrypting as expected?

I recently downloaded kmttg ver. n to update from ver. i
Now when I choose to decrypt, they don't end up in the expected .mpg format but instead are all left as .ts files in the destination folder.

Then ver. o just got release and I updated to that and tried doing the same but still decryption result in .ts files instead of the expected .mpg format?!?

All previous versions from 'i' and before experiences were working just fine (ie. to say I am not a complete newbie ;) [TiVoLibre is checked off... ie. on]

Any idea what's going on?

How to get $99 Lifetime on Premier?

I have two premier units that I was offered $99 lifetime on when I cancelled them, I was told I could take advantage off the offer later on if I wished. I called today to double check because I was going to list them on eBay and add the premier only if they were sold. When I called I was told since I disconnected them they lost their ability to be upgraded to $99 lifetime and I would have to pay the normal monthly fee to activate them.

I'm curious if it's just one of those things that it depends who you talk to? Or is that the company line now?

Romeo Pro - live tv on all of time???

every time I shut off the tv, I go to the main tivo screen and hit the >| button to shut of the pre-view window so there is no TV palying and only the static menu. Everytime I turn my TV back on there is live tv playing?

Is this normal? is the head unit always paying live tv?

Tivo squeezes more $ from loyal customer (me)

More of a rant than a post. I was an early adopter of the mini (and the roamio, S3,S2,S1, etc,etc). Like an idiot - been paying for monthly service fees for over two years. Finally asked for consideration as a loyal customer and was allowed to convert to lifetime service for $50.

Just want acknowledgement from Tivo that I'm their perfect idiot loyal customer:

Mini purchase: $99
26 months service: $156
generous lifetime offer: $50

I've paid them $305 for my mini vs the option I could have had to buy it WITH lifetime for $149. I'm awesome (in their minds). To be fair, Caveat Emptor... I should have paid closer attention.

V70 error and bad mini

We just got our first mini and had it all hooked up to our Roamio basic via ethernet. We just have 2 tv's in the house so one cable from the router to the roamio and one from the router to the mini. Everything worked fine until we couldn't get past the V70 error, no compatible DVR found. We called tech and were told to force the connection on our roamio several times and keep trying. I knew, from reading these boards, that there can be a wait of 24 hours so we tried again yesterday. Same issue. After several calls to tech support, the case was escalated up to advanced support. They really did do a great job but same issue. The last agent I spoke with did some additional diagnostics and found that when the mini got its software update, it reverted to an older one than it came loaded with. She then said she's fairly certain that it's the mini itself that's faulty.She then asked where I got it. I told her Amazon and she said they have been having some issues with mini's bought there. That may be a ploy to sell more of their own units but it also may be true.

Anyway, we have returned the faulty one, purchased one from tivo and it will arrive Tuesday. I'm a little panicked to think that we may have the same issue. Has anyone had a faulty mini that they returned and did the replacement work?

Thanks

Is Colony worth watching?

I've got all of the shows recorded and have watched the pilot. Is it worth keeping them to watch, or should I just delete them and cancel the season pass? I don't want to spend a lot of time watching the show if it's getting negative reviews for the later episodes, but I don't want to search for reviews in case I watch them and things get spoiled for me.

Tivo Bolt 4K

The new update has made my bolt non 4k, Have open issue with TIVO support open, but it seems nothing is being done.they said it is a multiple user issue, but they cant roll back the update.....They wont even post replies saying it is a known issue.weird, usually they respond quickly.

Any updated info on the new Hulu app for Roamio?

I remember hearing/seeing that the Bolt's new Hulu app was going to be ported to the Roamio. Have there been any updates on this? It seems like the Roamio line has received most of the other Bolt exclusive features, so what is the holdup on this one app?

Series 1-3 no longer eligible for lifetime?

http://ift.tt/1XRF3n0

Or any change of service for that matter? With $300 LT option gone, what does this mean for series 3 value for resale? Did the price of these take a jump up when this notice went out?

Can transfer shows via TiVo Online now

You can apparently initiate TiVo to TiVo transfers now using TiVo Online. This should make transitioning to a new TiVo a lot easier. In the past you either had to queue up shows one at a time using the remote (PITA!!) or use a PC as an intermediate which caused a loss of metadata which effected grouping.

Amazon Streaming Being "Demoted" to Low Def?

Hi all,

A couple of days ago I tried to watch Bone Tomahawk via Amazon, using the TiVo Amazon app (Prime subscription). I noticed it was playing in Low Def. Thinking that was because it was being made available through Prime, I purchased the Hi Def version only to find that it also played in Low Def. I then switched to my MacBook Pro and brought up Safari, logged into Amazon, and tried to play Bone Tomahawk that way. Low Def. And I noticed that the "HD" icon on the control bar gave me a popup message saying something along the lines of "This is playing in low def because you have a non-compliant display".

I had no idea what that meant, but some research showed that it meant something in my setup was not HDCP compliant. Upon more research, that something is the heart of my media room, a Yamaha RX-A1040.

Not wanting to scrap an almost new 1040, I looked into ways to "bypass" HDCP. That led me to purchasing a cheap 1x2 HDMI splitter, which I installed last night.

After rebooting the MacBook, it will play the Hi Def version of Bone Tomahawk, although the HD icon still displays the same "non compliant display" message.

However, the TiVo Amazon app still plays the Low Def version, even after a cold boot of the Roamio.

Anyone have any ideas on how I might get the Roamio Amazon app to play in Hi Def?

Thanks,

Chris

What you'd like to see on the next TiVo

I thought it would be interesting to start a thread where everyone suggests what they would like to see on the next TiVo.

Disclaimer: I know these forums aren't guaranteed to be read by TiVo, they probably won't be considered if they are, etc. This thread is purely just for, quite literally, wishful thinking and discussion of ideas.

Wierd Behavior on 30 sec jumps

In the last week I've noticed an extremely weird thing when doing 30 second jumps (not Skipmode) through commercials. As the video frames scan by during the jump; frames from the show pop up. However, if I stop; I'm not quite out of the commercial block yet. It seems like frames from further on in the recording are intermittently popping up.

I definitely saw this on HGTV on my Roamio Pro today and I think I've seen the same behavior on CW on my Bolt. Anybody else noticing this?

Rescheduled Recording

All,

Probably a TiVO 101 type of question. But my TiVo didn't record an episode of Elementary on Sunday. It seems to be good at noticing if a show moves nights or something. But not if sports delay things.

I thought that it had adjusted after NFL this fall, but I may be off.

I'm assuming that NCAA delayed it, but the TV guide wasn't updated so it just missed the last half. I kinda thought the advantage of TiVO over standalone DVR's was this capability.

*Sorry if this isn't the right section for this. Move if necessary :)

Rovi seeks to acquire, merge with TiV

Report: Rovi seeks to acquire, merge with TiVo

By Mike Snider March 24, 2016 11:53 am

Entertainment tech company Rovi is seeking to acquire digital video recorder pioneer TiVo, according to a report in The New York Times.

After the merger, TiVo shareholders would likely own about 30% of the combined company, persons close to the situation told the Times. Rovi’s market cap is about $1.7 billion, while TiVo is valued at $750 million. The deal is expected to involve a combination of cash and stock, but the exact price is still being negotiated, according to the Times.

Both companies declined comment to USA TODAY.

Shares of TiVo (TIVO) were up 20% to $9.20 after the Times report hit. Rovi (ROVI) were down slightly at $19.97.

Rovi has more than 5,000 issued or pending patents used in its creation of programming guides and discovery tools for TV makers and online video providers. TiVo pioneered the move to digital video recorders for pay TV, allowing users to record, pause and rewind TV.

The latest TiVo set-top box, the Bolt ($299.99-up) incorporates 4K video and streaming video services, as well as a new QuickMode for watching sports and other recorded content 30% faster.

Arrow "Broken Hearts" 3/23/2016

The last two Arrow episodes have accomplished something that I never in a million years would have thought. They've made me dislike Felicity Smoak. Oliver actually had a good reason to keep the existence of his son a secret but Felicity is all "You kept a secret from me. I'm out. Literally, since I can now walk again."

I don't remember seeing Felicity wear pants before.

This was not a good episode.

Survivor 3/23/16

For some reason I'm just not into this season. No real reason. There really isn't anyone I "hate". Or anyone I root for.

MoCA issue with 3 Way Splitter

I recently purchased a Bolt and 2 Minis. After some research and initial issues I ordered a Holland POE filter and a Holland 3 way splitter. The splitter is unbalanced.

Last night I configured my system as follows:

Antenna -> POE Filter -> Splitter In
Splitter -3.9 Out -> Bolt
Splitter -7.7 Out -> Tivo Mini #1
Splitter -7.7 Out -> Tivo Mini #2

With this configuration I found that the Mini would bind to the network for 30 to 60 seconds and then drop. Bind and drop, bind and drop.

I replaced the the unbalanced 3 way splitter with a 2 way splitter as follows and everything worked as expected.

Antenna -> POE Filter -> Splitter In
Splitter -3.5 Out -> Bolt
Splitter -3.5 Out -> Tivo Mini #1
Ethernet -> Tivo Mini #2

Is the unbalanced splitter causing my issues or is the signal loss across the entire configuration causing my issue?

Next step is going to be to use a balanced 3 way to see if that solves the problem so I can run the entire system on Coax.

Oh Crap - Rovi buys TiVo?

It was just reported on CNBC that the NYT has reported that Rovi plans to buy TiVo. Cramer might act crazy a lot, but this is strange. Anybody confirm?

Rovi's stock has been rising for a while. TiVo not so much but rising 17% this morning. Now up 20%!

Installing Update... Grrrrr

So I'm watching something via Plex on one of my Minis and the picture freezes and no access to anything. I check my Roamio and the screen says, "Installing an Update This will take a few minutes."

I realize it's a rare occurance, but still I thought the TiVo wouldn't reboot if I was using it. Granted I was only using it via MoCA to my Plex server, but it's really annoying.

Thanks for listening.

ETA: Now it says it is "Preparing the update. This may take up to an hour." Double Grrrrr!

It's not the hard drive or the power supply...Random power up hang

So I have 2 series 3 tivos. I have fixed both the power supplies and both are on replacement hard drives.

I accidentally did the "Dvr Diagnostics" on one of them yesterday and it hung (I figured out in the past that if you have had both channels tuned with full buffers the DVR diagnostic freezes and you have to unplug to reboot)
Well I didn't want to unplug it so I did some other things while waiting and forgot and it sat on the screen for 24hrs...

Today I unplug it to reboot and it hangs on the "Welcome, Powering Up" screen..

I tried several times to unplug and plug it but nothing.

Kickstart won't work, It reboots instead of running the test.

I take the unit apart and run WD DIagnostics on the drive. Smart passes, and the drive checks out as fine on the scan.

I wondered if it was the power supply so I used the power supply from my other tivo...

Still hangs...

I pop the cable cards out...

Still hangs...

I know from past experience that if the "Welcome, Powering Up" screen lasts more than 5 min you're not going to get a boot and you have to unplug and try again...

Randomly on one of the reboots with the cable cards out it boots. I push the cards in and play a recorded show...All is fine...

I reboot to test and it hangs again...

I am sure it isn't the power supply and the drive test out fine..

I did notice on one of the screen display flashed on and off rapidly and then the "Welcome, Powering Up" screen became more of a magenta and pinkish gold (bad color display of the tivo log) and this flashed a few times and then it hung on this screen...

Double ewe tee Eff?

Thoughts?
Any thoughts on this?

Criminal Minds "A Beautiful Disaster" (3/23/16) S11E18 **SPOILAGE!**

Wow, I guess I've missed a lot of episodes this season. J Love Hewitt is gone? :) Aisha Tyler is in? Derek's married? And he's got a new kid?

And he's leaving the show? I guess that would be a bigger deal if the show comes back next year.

Man, Frank Black/Bishop is really looking ragged. He was already old-ish back during Millennium.

Casting spoiler for next week:
Spoiler:
Paget Brewster is back! At least for one ep.

Where is Windows winmfs.exe in 2016? Steps for newbie to replace Series3 HD?

OK – I cry uncle – after following so many dead links and reading so many outdated conflicting approaches from 2007 onward, I have confused myself to point of not knowing where to start.

Can someone point me to the current 2016 instructions for how to replace a failing internal Tivo Series3 drive?

What I have:
  • a second-hand Series3 Tivo with a failing 1TB disk that I did not install
  • a new 2TB WD AV-GP 3.5 Inch, SATA II, 64 MB Cache WD20EURS disk from ___amazon.com/WD-AV-GP-Video-Hard-Drive/dp/B0042AG9V8___
  • a Windows-7 laptop (which I think is more recommended to use for this over my Mac laptop) to which I will attach two USB-to-SATA drive enclosures, one for the new WD20EURS, and the second for the old Tivo drive

What I think I need to do:
  1. Remove all the deleted shows from Tivo disk
    • Can this really be done? Conflicting reports say this is worthless since disk xfer is byte-for-byte copy
  2. Run the WD diags on new disk from PC
  3. Find a Windows version of WinMFS
    • I found ___sourceforge.net/projects/mfstools___ - but this looks to be UNIX only
    • Where do I find the latest winmfs.exe for windows?
  4. Follow the steps in __rosswalker.http://ift.tt/1XOPyaw
    • Except skip the wdidle3 step since my WD20EURS is newer than 2013
  5. msinfo (but I do not see how this works from Windows or winmfs.exe?)
  6. mfsadd (but I do not see how this works from Windows or winmfs.exe?)
  7. Or is it MfsSuperSize?

Is this all spelled out somewhere for 2016 steps with working links? Doesn’t seem to exist.

Or is this easier done from the Mac? If yes, I’m assuming there won’t be a DMG, but are there suggested cmd-lines with switches to use from OSX xterm? Can I really run the WD diags from the Mac?

The instructions in the forum sticky at TiVo Community > Main TiVo Forums > TiVo Series3 HDTV DVRs >Drive Expansion and Drive Upgrade FAQ are based on the missing Windows winmfs.exe.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

iPad mini 2 quit connecting to Roamio Plus

My Tivo Roamio Plus has always been accessible from my iphone, ipod, and iPad mini 2. The iphone and ipod still work great both in-home and from
Starbucks.

But for several months even inside the house my iPad mini 2 now doesn't complete the connection to download shows. It does connect enough to show the current MyShows list, but when I select one for download it times out saying "Box Not Responding".

Again, the iphone & ipod still connect fine, so the box and wifi connection seem fine; I suspect the iPad.

I have gone through Setup often, deleted and reinstalled the Tivo app, even restored the iPad operating system to no avail. I place the iPad next to my wifi router to get max signal but no help.

Since it lists the current MyShow programs it does have some connection, but not enough to download.

Any ideas on what to do next?

thank you,
-deac

DirecTV TiVo Season Pass Migration

I think I know the answer, but I would like to confirm my suspicions.

I am going to migrate from my 2011 DirecTV TiVo receiver to a TiVo Roamio or BOLT. Will I be able to do the Season Pass Migration service? (to move all my content from the DirecTV TiVo receiver to the new one?) I would settle for meta data (I.e. what shows I have for season passes, new and/or repeats. # to keep, etc.)

Thanks

Problem deleing show from 'My Shows'

Anybody else having this problem all of a sudden?

I watched 'Billions' last night and went to delete it. It goes to 'Delete Now' and then gets stuck in time for a few moments, then nothing happens and it's still there.

But the weirdest thing, that I've never seen with this kind of problem over the years, is that it is also in my 'Recently Deleted' folder ALSO, and there it still has the blue dot and can't be deleted from there either.

I know - this is a first world problem but it drives somebody like me freaking crazy. Anybody know a solution? I have not seen the problem with other shows yet on this Tivo or my other one.

I even clicked on 'play' and then took it to the end again and tried to delete it. Tried to delete it from 'Deleted' folder. Tried everything I can think of.

TiVo's web page for the Bolt states that the Bolt has the MLB app. This is false.

Here is the Bolt's official web page, where it plainly states that the Bolt has the MLB app.

However, the Bolt does not have it.

What is going on here?

Almost New Roamio

Almost new Roamio, with remote and power cord. I tested it, works fine.

Roamio Activation Rip-off

So, I bought a replacement for my Premiere, a very new Roamio (the base model).

I called Tivo Support and the guy I got on the phone was a jerk. Despite the fact that I have six other Tivos on my account, he said that the Lifetime on the box would be $599.00

He essentially said that with older Premiere they are offering lifetime upgrades for $99, but not for Roamios as they are "too new".

Anybody else hit this roadblock, or did I just get lucky and get one of their worst reps?

part of record light is on

Not the whole light, but only a small part of the record light is lit. When it records the who thing comes on fine. The unit records fine, is this an indication of something else wrong?

Dead TiVo Mini?

The Flash - Trajectory (3/22/16)

I actually laughed end thinking back to that episode of The Big Bang Theory were Sheldon daydreams hes The Flash to go to the Grand Canyon to scream. I thought ending would tie into the Supergirl crossover on Monday. Unless he ran to National City at the end?
