Browse file system?

Let's say I want to browse my Roamio file system, after the recent 20.5.2a update, to look for image files depicting the upcoming Bolt. Is that is simple as hanging the TiVo drive off a computer and going crazy? Or is it locked down, obfuscated in some way? Also, I wonder if certain assets are not actually downloaded until needed. Thanks ahead of time for any insight!

Heroes: Reborn begins tonight

Just a tad over an hour from now, Eastern time.

TV shows on Blu-ray...what's happening?

I don't know if it's just coincidence, but lately I'm having bad luck. Agents of SHIELD Season 2 and Agent Carter Season 1 are both Amazon-exclusive, with much less discounting than usual. And iZombie isn't being released on Blu at all!

WHY ARE THESE EVIL MEDIA CONGLOMERATES DESTROYING MY LIFE?

(I'd insert a joke about 1st-world problems, but I just watched the evening news, and even by 1st-world standards this doesn't register.)

Help with Tivo OTA to stream to other devices

I have a TIVO OTA box in living room, is it possible to stream my shows saved on the tivo to my other devices (besides Slingbox and other Tivo boxes) such as Roku, Apple Tv, Netgeo??

can I still use my stand alone dvd recorder to record shows to dvd????

I have always been able to record shows from my Tivo to my stand-alone dvd recorder. I can't find a way to do this with OTA Roamio. I tried an adaptor for HDMI out to RCA in, nothing. I bought the Tivo breakout cables and used Tivo av to rca in to dvd recorder, nothing. :( Does anyone know how to record dvds from Tivo, or do I need to get rid of Tivo and go back to satellite? Their DVR recorded to my dvd recorder just fine.

I want to love Tivo again, I've had it all but two years since Tivo was a baby!

Empire "The Devils Are Here" 9/24/2015

And the craziness begins again! Empire isn't a great show but it certainly is fun.

I thought Chris Rock was pretty good as a gangster. Too bad he only lasted one episode.

Cookie to Anika: "You can't even dyke right."

Cookie in a gorilla suit was certainly a WTF? moment.

Porsha still cracks me up.

Capturing aged-out video

I recently upgrade one of my Series 3 Tivos to a Roamio Plus. I'm still getting used to the new and very cluttered user interface, but I've noticed a functional difference that I think is important and am sorry to have lost it.

When paused while watching live TV, once the half hour buffer is full and it starts playing, it used to be possible on the Series 3 to start recording and reclaim some of the video, often the entire program, from before the buffer. With the Roamio this seems never to be possible. The recording starts at the place where the buffer starts. (The original Tivo did an even better job handling this situation, but that's long gone, alas...)

Have other people noticed this? I'd really like to see it corrected. It seems like a bug to me.

Scream Queens Season 1

Not sure how much interest there will be in this show (a lot of new stuff to watch right now) so starting a season thread. Feel free to start episode threads if desired.

A 2 hour pilot was a bit painful to sit through. But there were a lot of characters and background information to introduce, so I made it through.

I thought/hoped there would be more comedy. But if it was supposed to be funny, I didn't laugh. I did find all of the Chanel's to be entertaining, especially, of course, Chanel #5.

I'll give it a few more episodes but I'm not holding out a lot of hope.

scheduling manual recordings online?

I recently needed to manually record a 6hr block recording on one of my TiVos (Premiere and Roamio). I wasn't at home so needed to do it remotely. I would up doing it online, but basically recorded it two different times and simply extended the recording on each end (2-3hrs).

Is there any way to online schedule a manual recording like I can on the actual box?

i.e simply record ch48 from 12 noon to 6pm (regardless of how many shows fall in this time frame).

20.5.2a causes Roamio to hang at "Almost there..."

Two nights ago, my Roamio Plus received 20.5.2a and started freezing up and couldn't stream to my (2) Minis. After a restart, it hung at the "Almost there....just a few minutes more" screen. A few cold reboots (with coax and cablecard removed) and letting it sit at that screen a couple of hours would (sometimes) allow it to fully boot, but be VERY sluggish and definitely unable to stream.

I called into TiVo CS this morning to report it and was told there is no ETR, but it is priority #1 and there are at least 100 other tickets associated with this issue according to the rep I spoke with. I was told to sit tight while they work on a resolution and keep an eye on the forums. ::grin::

I know there was a reported issue for un-activated TiVos and 20.5.2a, but it looks like some of us activated machines were included in the issue as well.

Anyone else experiencing this? In the meantime, all three TVs are out of commission. At least the Apple TV still works. :)

1 tuner record led on - Nothing recording

Tried a search on this but did not see any similar questions so thought that I would try the masses. This morning while watching my kids premiere 2 tuner with him I noticed all of a sudden one of the tuner record leds illuminated. I asked him what he had scheduled to record and he said nothing. Sure enough there was no indication in my shows of anything recording also nothing recording in suggestions. Thinking it was a box glitch I restarted it. When it recovered the recording led came back on. It remained on for about 5 more minutes then shut off. The box appears to be functioning normally. Anyone else ever experience a similar situation? Was wondering what it may have been. Does tivo record anything else to the box besides what we schedule or suggestions?

Why do my "do not record automatically" wishlists show up in the "To Do" listings?

Got a new Roamio a little while back and have been on a learning curve figuring out how to work with OnePass, etc.

One quick question: I have numerous WishLists that are set to NOT auto-record, mostly so that I can have quick access to finding out what is upcoming if the interest strikes. Mostly sporting events, like Tennis, Soccer, etc.

I find that ALL upcoming broadcasts of non-auto-record events are now present in my "To Do" list, greyed out and notated with a "conflicts with four other recordings" message. Some non-auto-record Wishlists are generating dozens of listings per day, really clogging up my "To Do" listing.

Can anyone explain why this is happening and how I can change this behavior?

Survivor S31E01 "Second Chance" 9/23/2015 *spoilers*

It is so great to have this show back. And this cast is going to be awesome. I like nearly everyone there so it's going to be tough to figure out who to root for.

The way they were showing Fischbach being such an inept outcast, I was sure he was going to be the first boot. Glad it wasn't him.

I was glad to see Kelley take the chance and grab the idol when nobody was looking. Interesting twist to hide the idol at the challenge.

I loved that they took the losing team straight from the challenge to Tribal Council without giving them a chance to strategize. Although based on the lighting when the challenge ended and the fact that it was fully dark when they started TC, there had to be at least a couple hours between the two. I'm guessing the players were not allowed to talk to each other during that time.

I was glad to see Vytas go. I was never a big fan of him and I am a fan of most of the players that apparently teamed up against him. I would have been fine with Abi going as well, but keeping her around means more drama, which is sure to be entertaining.

Dialog too low and drowned out

I just got a Roamio and switched from DirecTV to cable. So far I really like the box, but I've been having problems with the audio. When using the TV speakers, and also with my surround sound receiver, the dialog is too low. I wouldn't call it muffled, but it does sound much lower than what I had with DirecTV. In normal scenes the dialog is low, but when there is music or effects, it can almost be completely drowned out. I've tried Dolby and PCM and both have the same issue. I even went as far as to hook up my DirecTV DVR (my service won't be cancelled until the end of the month), record the same shows on both my Tivo and DirecTV DVR and then flip back and forth between them and the DirecTV audio is much clearer and the dialog has much more presence than the Tivo. I've also noticed when I watch the Tivo through my receiver that the Tivo is setting a dialnorm of -3, which means that the Tivo is lowering the center (dialog) audio lower than the surrounds. Any suggestions as to how to fix this? It is so noticeable to me that it has me considering returning the box and reactivating DirecTV which is not what I really want to do.

New Roamio user -- HD upgrade / mini question

I recently got back into TiVos, and a re-newed Roamio and a 3 TB harddisk are arriving tomorrow.

I would like to get the Roamio online fast so I can start to record the new TV season. I was thinking of starting up the Roamio, record a couple of programs to make sure it works, and then replacing the HD. Or should I go the faster route of just popping in the new HD right off the bat?

Also, I was thinking of getting a Mini for the bedroom. However, I was wondering if a second Roamio for the bedroom would be a better solution. Would the Mini be easier in terms of watching the shows off the "main" TiVo, or would the experience be the same as the Mini?

Also, is there any use for a Roamio that doesn't have a contract? Can you use it to watch the stuff recorded on it (when it was under contract), use it to watch netflix, use it to transfer stuff from a different TiVo? It seems like there are a few Roamios on Craiglist, I was just wondering if there is a use for them out of contract.

Empire Season Two

Great start with so much happening in the first episode. So loving this show --- casting, plot twists, crazy clothes, Cookie.

Melissa Tomei!
Chris Rock!
Was that Max Beesley in the prison? Love him.

Anyone need episode threads?

Moca 2.0

Question if anyone knows. I got a moca 2.0 bonded adapter and put it on the network and stopped the five from creating the network. I use moca for other network connections so will the tivos force all too 1.1 or will the 2.0 adapters get the speeds that 2.0 get?

Blech. Awful. Deleted.

One Pass All Channels not scheduling recordings

Every OnePass I've created to record a show from all channels doesn't schedule recordings even where there are upcoming shows listed. So far whenever this happened I've caught this in time and updated the One Pass to record from a specific channel and recordings will get scheduled right away.

Have other people seen this? Any solutions or workarounds?

TIA

Series 2 hard drive died

Probably long overdue after almost 10 years of productive use, but it finally died. It is the 540080 model. I researched this site to get all of the information needed to replace it.

First, I bought a Seagate DB35.3 160GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive. I imaged it using the WFS tool and a backup I found through this site and thought I was good to go. It didn't work. I actually got through the setup process and thought I was good to go, but no. The "Tivo" button behaved funny, showing the menu options over the tv program that was running in the background, then it would randomly freeze up. I had to reboot over and over and could never get to the point of actually entering any program info. Strangest thing. So I gave up on that path and tried another.

My latest attempt was more straightforward. I bought a "new in box" Tivo off eBay and just swapped this pristine, new HD into my Tivo. I got the guided setup as expected of a new machine, but then realized that I had to connect to a landline for this option which I do not have. I found another posting that told how to use a USB to Ethernet adapter and the phone prefix ",#401". Again, I thought I was golden when this got me through the first three steps of setup (where my digital phoneline had failed), but then on the fourth step "Importing", I got "Failed while loading data".

I am more than a little frustrated, but trying to hang in there with this process. I thought I was technically savvy, but after struggling through Linux commands with MFS Boot Disk, I'm ready to admit I know nothing. This is a young man's game.

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong with EITHER this new, pristine Tivo drive or the 160GB Seagate drive? I would be eternally grateful as I'm on the verge of giving up.

-Mark

Tivo Android App can't see Roamio or mini (2 subnets)

Hi all. I recently split my network so my wired is 192.168.1.x and my wireless is 192.168.2.x.

Before this split, I had no problems.

After the split, my Roamio and Mini are on 192.168.1.x and my phone is 192.168.2.x. Now I can't control my Tivos with the android app, and I assume it's because they are on a different subnet.

I can ping all devices from both subnets, and have no other issues with other apps/devices across subnets.

Is this a limitation with Tivo? And is there a workaround?

Thanks for any help.

degrading signa' on minis

I have 2 tivo minis. One Roamio plus. FIOS network. Roamio is on ethernet switch, minis on Coax. The minis had decent playback when first installed but lately are unwatchable, audio and video dropouts. Nothing has changed on my network. I can ping all devices (30ms from my iPad).

Any ideas?

Roamio Problems & Suggestions not recording

For the last few weeks, I've had a recording that I could never get rid of. No matter of trying, rebooting would get rid of it. Was stuck. I'd come to the conclusion that I was going to have to wipe everything and restart, so Tuesday morning, I did just that. I had gotten my TiVo down to just three things I hadn't watched, so after copying them off with kmttg, I set to wiping out everything.

Before I did that, I backed up my season passes & thumbs using kmttg, so I was pretty much ready to go.

When it was finished, I went through guided setup, did the antenna scan (this is a base Roamio, and I am antenna only). The box did it's thing, and then I imported back my season passes, tweaked them (as the restore from kmttg doesn't preserve wishlist titles if it's complex), and imported the thumbs, and I thought I was good to go. Copied back the couple of programs from before too.

In the middle of the afternoon, I decided to watch one of those programs, and also picked a couple of programs to record. That's where my problems started.

1) When I finished, I went to delete a program, and it didn't delete. I hit delete from inside the program listing, and I got the TiVo blue spinny ball of death. It just sat there. I eventually got control back by using the iOS app, and telling it to watch something.

2) The program mentioned above said it was still there when I got control, but eventually disappeared when I rebooted the TiVo later on trying to get around something else.

3) A second program I tried deleting did delete when I told it to, but it took over 30 seconds for the system to respond to that and actually do anything.

4) On more than one occasion, when I went to play something, I'd hit play, and I'd be met with a black screen. There were varying lengths of time it would take before it would start playing. Anywhere from 30 seconds to over THREE FLIPPIN' MINUTES! Something is quite wrong there. Playback has always been instant and immediate on this box before, so ANY kind of delay is troubling, much less one that takes three minutes to respond.

5) I also had issues with FF/RW/Trickplay. It would work, but the response would be sluggish. Not fast and fluid like the box always was.

At first I thought "Well, maybe it's still sorting the initial data", but I've never had my Roamio box bog down like this - EVER.

I then thought "well, maybe something went wrong with my importing all those old thumbs. Maybe something went wrong when it tried to assign a thumb value to a program it doesn't know about?" So I then told it to wipe out my thumbs (which I had imported via kmttg), and did that. When it came back, I sat there for a few minutes thumbs upping everything I had a season pass for, and went a few programs I know I'll never want and thumbed down them. Just to give it a starting point.

This seemed to help a bit, as generally it is acting better, but I'm still getting delays when playing things, just not as fast.

And FINALLY, through out all of this, the box has not recorded any kind of suggestion. None. I found that quite strange, as it would record a crapload of them before. It was doing this before I wiped out the imported thumbs, and after. As I write this message, it is about 28 hours since I did the complete wipe and restart, and it hasn't recorded anything.

I triple checked, it is set to record them. I did read around a bit about TiVos not recording suggestions, and ran across this set of instructions. I did this too, and it doesn't seem to have made a difference:

1) Set TiVo to NOT record suggestions
2) Reboot box.
3) Set TiVo to record suggestions
4) Reboot box.
5) Wait 24 hours

That doesn't seem to have made any difference either. I'm a bit concerned about the problems here and why it hasn't smoothed out. OR am I being too impatient and I should wait longer?

Given I have my passes saved off, and as I write this message, there's only three episodes of things I haven't watched yet.. If I have to start over again, I will, but I'd really rather not go there if I don't have to.

For the record, this is a base Roamio box who has had its hard drive replaced with a 2TB model. Other than the HD replacement, it has not been messed with in any way (like rooting it or whatnot). I use kmttg and pyTiVo to get programs on and off it, but that shouldn't cause these kinds of problems.

Ideas? Bueller? Bueller?

Roamio Pro not recording program for lack of space.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading.

I have owned at least one TiVo since 2003. I have had series 2, 3, Premieres and in March of this year I purchased my new Roamio Pro with 6 tuners and a 3TB drive. I currently run two series 3 HD, a Premiere and the Roamio. The problem I had is with the Roamio and I have NEVER seen it with any other unit that I have owned.

Just the other day my Roamio was scheduled to record several programs during the evening but when I looked for one of them the following day I noted that it did not show up in the My Shows screen. I went to the History listing and saw that it had not recorded and the reason was listed was "Limit Reached". I looked at the TODO list and saw that another program several days in the future was listed not to be recorded and the reason listed was that there was not enough space.

I have 25 season passes setup on the Roamio and I will often setup manual recordings. The My Shows indicates that I am using about 3% to 5% of the available space. In my TODO listing I do not show any time frame in which I have more than 4 programs scheduled to record. All my Season Pass programs are setup to keep all programs and keep until I delete. In Settings it showed that I had total space for 476 hours of HD and I had 458 hours of available space.

I went into my deleted items folder saw that I had 468 programs dated back as far June. So all the programs from March through June had been permanently deleted when their space was needed for new recordings which is the way things should work. As a test I deleted several programs from the deleted items folder and then went back to the TODO list and now the show that had been listed as not being recorded had changed and it was listed correctly.

I called TiVo support and they were unable to tell why this happened. Has anyone else seen this and if so were you able to fix the problem.
As and additional question, does anyone know a way to delete items in bulk from the recently deleted programs folder. Doing 468 programs one at a time was miserable!!!!

Fresh Off the Boat - Season 2 thread (Spoilers)

I see no buzz on this show but I really like it.

It's funny, because I hate the lead kid but the mom and dad (mom, especially) totally steal the show. I keep hoping they will realize this and shift more and more to her instead of the kid.

So this first episode was great. I loved the joke about the whale song and, as usual, the grandmother was awesome.

If you have not heard about this show, give it a shot...it's funny!

TiVo Connection Failures

Beginning yesterday mid-morning, I have been unable to connect to the TiVo servers for any updates. I have not made any changes in my network, which has been operating efficiently for years. I would appreciate any suggestions anyone may have to offer.

My Premiere Elite (XL4) is wired via ethernet cable through a gigabit switch to my router (D-Link DIR-655). I have Earthlink DSL 3.0Mbps service using a Zyxel modem (model P-660R-D1). My connected PC is running Windows10.

Every time I try to connect, the TiVo shows a network interruption when trying to download the account status. The TCP Port connection test usually (although not always) fails. I have noted the TiVo support page which lists the outbound ports that must remain open, but my router does not filter outbound ports (only inbound) and designating the inbound ports to remain always open has had no effect.

In addition to my independent troubleshooting efforts (which included eliminating the gigabit switch to no avail and numerous system reboots), I spent 3 hours on the phone yesterday with TiVo support and they were unable to locate the issue. They claim that everything looks fine on their end and in my equipment and said that the issue must reside with my ISP. Earthlink support claims that as long as my PC is connecting properly, they cannot help. D-Link support was similarly clueless (and I am now out $33 for a "premium support" session).

The issue does not appear to reside solely in the TiVo since I am now having issues when trying (as a test) to stream video on my TV's (via wireless); however, my Sony BDP (wired via the same gigabit switch as the TiVo) can still stream Amazon Video or Vudu clips. At the same time, Xfinity OD via the TiVo does still function (I believe the XOD stream is transmitted via the coax but that the connection must first be established via ethernet) and my Android tablet can stream YouTube videos, e.g, over the wireless connection.

I have a spare D-Link DIR-850L router still in the shrink-wrap that I could use, but my hope is that there is some relatively simple fix short of scraping my current setup.

Help?

Sorry could not find answer on Tivo HD

Issue: It appears the drive was mirrored as the new drive works just fine but still only allows about 20 hours of HD recording.

New: Western Digital 2 TB WD AV-GP SATA III Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM AV Hard Drive WD20EURX

Followed instructions from http://ift.tt/1G34jxh

cat /proc/partitions (Showed correct drives and sizes)

Printed them off, copied command and put ^ where spaces were to be so I was exactly like copied off page when I input the command.

read:backup^-qTao^-^/dev/sda^|^restore^-s^128^-xzpi^-^/dev/sdb
inputted:backup -qTao - /dev/sda | restore -s 128 -xzpi - /dev/sdb

hdparm -k 1 -B 1 -M 128 /dev/sdb

Issue: It appears the drive was mirrored as the new drive works just fine but still only allows about 20hours of HD recording.

Transferring from Desktop to Tivo

I'm using Desktop Plus and transferring Movies from the computer to two different Tivo units (a Premier 3 and a Roamio). More times than not, the transfer stops anywhere from 27 to 39 minutes. So if I start watching it without checking to see if everything transferred, I get really pissed off when it abruptly stops.
I've talked with Tivo support with no luck.
Anyone have any suggestions
Thanks

I am trying to locate the software for upgrading my Premiere's hard disk to a larger size. There does not seem to be a lot of info on the Premiere.

Which power saving settings

Hi!

I am a brand new Tivo owner. I have never had a DVR before except for a Homeworx 150 which worked OK if one was a geek. ;)

I really enjoy what the Tivo can do and exploring it's features. But, there are a few areas that I will need some help.

One of the first is what settings to use for the power saving feature. I have four choices from no power savings to having the Tivo go into power saving after two hours.

What settings do people use and why? Is there anything I should know about power saver settings before I start using it?

From what I have read any setting to record future shows will wake up the Tivo from the power saving mode. Correct?

Tivo not showing recorded shows and no recording lights on when it is recording

Yesterday my stopped showing shows that were being recorded and no recording lights were shown. But my tivo was recording shows but they were not be shown in my shows.

I rebooted my tivo and all the missing shows showed up on my tivo.

Is this from the new software? Is there something wrong with my tivo?

Tivo app question

I have a question about the TiVo app. Ever since the upgrade, closed captioning is displayed on my iPhone. This is not the case on the iPad, just the phone. CC is displayed when viewing both live and recorded programs.
Can someone tell me how to turn CC off? It is very distracting.

One Passes clipping shows?

So here an odd one. We have had at least three different shows on different networks, recorded via One Passes both old and new, stop recording early thus clipping the end of the show. In the case of Life in Pieces I had set up the One Pass with the show extended by two minutes and it still clipped it. Can't figure out is this is just the networks messing with us or the Tivo is doing something weird.

Any one else seen this? We have a Roamio Pro.

Question re: exiting from watching a recording

Got a new Roamio a little while back and have been on a learning curve figuring out how to work with OnePass, etc.

One quick question: when watching a recording, if I exit by pressing the left arrow, the recording continues in the small window in the upper right. If I press the left arrow again, I go to my list of recordings so I can select another one to watch or turn off the TV.

While doing either of these actions, the original recording I was watching continues to play and when I return the next day can be multiple minutes ahead of where I was when I exited. I can find no "stop" button or other action that stops the recording.

UPDATE: I just stopped watching a particular show halfway through and deleted it AND the entire group of three shows that it was in. The recording STILL was playing even after the shows were deleted.

Any clues as to how I can exit watching a recording and stop the recording at that point would be most appreciated.

Sold lifetime tivo, new owner never transferred.

So I sold a lifetime S3 on ebay (after clear/delete) to a buyer who said he was strictly going to use it for off-air viewing, recording and playback. He did not have an account set up at tivo.com, this was his first box.

I walked him through what needed doing to do the lifetime transfer, but he hasn't done it.

I called TiVo to tell them I authorize the transfer of the service, but without an account to transfer to, all the CSR could do was note in the file that if/when the new owner calls, I have authorized the transfer.

It's been about a month now, and the S3 is still showing on my account.

So the question is, what is the downside for me, if any?

With my media key still on that S3, can he somehow see the Roamio I currently have?

Gotham: S2:E1 - "Rise of the Villains: Damned If You Do..." - 9/22/2015

Did people lose interest in "Gotham"? OR just lose interest in talking about it?

I still like this show. Jim Gordon out as cop for a short period of time, but not back as detective. But not without a lot of help from Pen..... er.... I mean Oswald.. (or is it OK to say it since they use that name in the show itself? So confusing).

Barbara as a villain ought to be fun. And Bruce finds a secret door. Blows it open to find a secret room. Yeah.. A room. What was dad up to in there??

Roameo Onepass not working for Big Bang Theory

Thread title says it all. No matter what setting I use, it won't pick up new episodes (and I missed the season opener). I've deleted and remade the Onepass multiple times, using different combinations of the network channel only, all channels, new only, record all - makes no difference. I can schedule single episode recording, but not a season pass.

I've never had this issue before, with any other TiVos (DirecTivo, S3, HD or Premiere) - or for that matter, which this box until now. Any thoughts?

Tivo Series 3 (not HD) hard drive failure

I have a Tivo Series 3 (not HD) purchased in February 2003. I upgraded the hard drive to 750GB and have had very good luck up to this point. Twelve years later it seems that the hard drive is finally failing. The Tivo freezes and even when I pull the plug and force a reboot, it restarts but immediately freezes again.

I just purchased a 2 TB WD AV-GP WD20EURX from Amazon and hope to replace the old drive.

Since my last upgrade, there seem to be more upgrade choices. I am comfortable using either linux based MFSLive or WinMFS, but am not sure which would be more appropriate for what I am trying to accomplish. What is confounding my decision even more is that it seems mfslive.org is down, so downloading those files and accessing those forums are difficult/impossible.

I would prefer to try to keep my recordings and cable card serial numbers if possible, so I prefer to clone my failing drive. But if necessary, I still have my backup image from when I initially upgraded.

I can easily download MFSLive v1.4 and it seems that I may be able to get v2.0 off of sourceforge, but 3.2 does not appear to be available. Also I have an old version of WinMFS on my computer that I downloaded in 2008.

Which tool and version do you think would help me best achieve success?

Thank you

Frontier Freedom TV

Just came across this on DLSReports:

http://ift.tt/1V8AQJb

This is essentially what I have: Roamio OTA + Frontier Internet

Too bad they are using the Mohu antennas.

Blindspot

I really enjoyed the pilot. The characters are interesting, the premise intriguing. It does feel very much like Blacklist though. (I sense a crossover at some point.)

My nitpick is a minor spoiler.

Spoiler:
The FBI agent (I think his name is Kurt) just happens to have a spare bulletproof vest in the truck for Jane?

I think this show has some good potential, and I'll be sticking with it for a while.

Cable card from Premiere to Roamio

Can I take my cable card from my Premiere and us it with my new Roamio?

Hotwire cable provider and Roamio Plus

I'm moving into a new house, and just learned that cable is provided by Hotwire, which doesn't provide cable cards.

Will my Roamio Plus work without a cable card?

Any work arounds?

I can't believe they can get away with not providing a cable card!!

Who's Checking The Menu?

U know, it is kinda nice to get info about actors and cast members but TiVo someone is NOT doing their job. I wanted to get the name of the cast members of Good Morning America, not previous guest, and their names were no where to be found. See pic which is so wrong!
Perhaps this feature is too much for you and should be deleted?

Thanks

Uncommanded channel change?

Tivo Roamio basic, on Comcast.

Had an odd thing happen yesterday. I was watching live TV with the guide open and suddenly the screen went blank. After a couple moments, the message "searching for signal" popped up. Turns out that the Tivo had changed to channel 1, which is not checked in the channel list and is not in use on the Comcast system.

I changed it back to a valid channel and all was well..... mostly. For about a minute, the Tivo was very noticeably sluggish when scrolling through the guide or the NPL. I selected a recording, started playback and then went back to the NPL. From that point on, the response to menu scrolling became normal. No further issues have been noted.

It is probably unrelated, but the previous day Comcast was having serious signal issues that were resolved when they replaced an amplifier in the neighborhood. Some channels were missing (zero signal) and others were seriously pixelated (low signal). There are likely several very compromised recordings on the HD, but I was not playing any of them. And the live buffer had long ago been flushed unless there is a separate buffer for each tuner? If so, it is possible it switched to a tuner that had a previously corrupted buffer. Just a thought.

Anyone else notice anything like this?

Paul

Life in Pieces

Not sure. The casting seems strange.
Something about Colin Hanks that bugs me -can not put my finger on it.
And is it just me or does the other brother resemble Steve Buscemi?
I did laugh out loud, more than once.
But it is relationships that drive successful sitcoms, not situations. Too bad network execs fail to get that.

The Big Bang Theory [09/21/2015] - "The Matrimonial Momentum"

Only Leonard and Penny could get married and then break up over something so stupid. Sheldon and Amy are much more interesting.
Sheldon: Some important new information has come to light. Women are the worst. I thought it was paper cuts, but I was wrong. No piece of paper ever cut me this deep.
I thought Sheldon's conversation with his mother about the ring was sweet. It makes sense that he didn't buy the ring but that it was a family heirloom.

Scorpion - S02E01- "Satellite of Love" - 09/21/2005

Ten minutes into the episode and a satellite powered by 1000 pounds of plutonium encased in beryllium falls out of orbit and they’re stating that because it hits the Earth at Mach 30, it’s an A-Bomb.

(Sigh)

They're not even trying, are they?

The Late Late Show With James Corden

couldn't find a thread for this show, so I'm starting one due to the fact this is quickly becoming the best, U.S. late night talk show.
From the Graham Norton concept of "all guests on at once", to Corden's theatrical talent, to the band, to the car-pool-karaoke....
Tonight's Alison Janney bit was damn funny....

None of the One Passes set with the new fall TV collection are working!!!

There is a collection under "Browse TV and Movies" called "All-New This Fall" where the user can watch trailers and set OnePasses for the new network TV shows. I set a ton of them from that collection. Tonight I noticed flipping through the guide that Blindspot, a new show on NBC was on and not recording, so I figured I didn't set that one but it thankfully prompted me to go look at the To Do List. No new shows are set to record at all. I went into my OnePass Manager and all new shows, including a OnePass that I DID have for Blindspot, are all grayed out.

Every single one of them says "No Upcoming Episodes" under the series picture, yet when you go into Upcoming there clearly are episodes. Changing the channel from "All" to the specific channel that the show is on does fix it, or at least it did in the case of Blindspot, but this is ridiculous. This is a basic function of the DVR, the very core function. Totally unacceptable.

Minority Report 9/21/2015 (S01E01) "Pilot"

It's probably going to suffer from some predictability... the first time I saw the pigeons I knew where the story was going. But I still liked it a lot.

Migration from old Tivo / Comcast

Two new Roamio boxes should be here tomorrow.
How should I handle the Comcast cable cards?
I have 3 currently (1Tivo Series 3, 1 TivoHD,)
and am looking forward to going to 2.
I am just not sure how to proceed.
Thanks for any guidance.

I have a Tivo Premiere and an LG 4K TV 65UF7690, the picture seems like 480 at best, when I had it plugged into a Vizio 4K it looked fine, any suggestions

See what will be recorded tonight

Is there any way to see what is going to be recorded in the immediate future on the TiVO?

For example, I have several season passes set, and sometimes record a few single episodes of other shows. I'd like to be able to see what is going to be recorded tonight in a simple view.

Any ideas?

Roamio/Premiere to Setup, cable/antenna/transfer?

Hi

I posted a little while ago in this thread about ordering a Roamio since I've had some network issues with my Premiere. I've yet to set up the Roamio due to being away until today, but have found out in the meantime that the Roamio (I ordered the basic model) can receive over cable or antenna, not both as the Premiere does. I'm not happy about this (and don't understand why Tivo did it) but under the circumstances, would it be best to leave the cable card in the Premiere, and record over the air with the Roamio for the time being, and transfer programs between them? Also, does the transfer take as long as Tivo Desktop does? It always seemed to go at real time speed. I have Time Warner and I'm sure they won't let everything transfer but there's enough broadcast programming I like to make the transferring worth it. Does this sound like a solution? Thanks

What is sls.tivoservice.com ?

My Roamio OTA keeps asking for sls.tivoservice.com when I use 'Connect to the TiVo Service now' but it does not exist. Is this a problem ?

Clock on Roamio OTA is inaccurate.

The clock on my device(Roamio OTA) is inaccurate. Today it is 40secs ahead, yesterday it was 20 secs behind. Looks like it flipped by 1 minute overnight. Is there a way to ensure time accuracy on this device ?

Romaio Audio

I just set up my Roamio over the weekend and I have been watching some shows on Netflix through my receiver. I've noticed that the audio doesn't sound full. Kind of tinny without a lot of mid and low end and that the voices were lower coming out of the center channel. I decided to test this out and started the same show on my Tivo and XBox One and flipped back and forth on my receiver. With the same settings and same volume, the XBox sounds so much better than the Tivo. The voices are clearer, the background music has presence and the surrounds seem fuller. Also, I've also noticed a very slight lip sync issue when watching through the TV speakers with the receiver off. There are no adjustments for delay on my TV, just the receiver.

I have the Tivo set to Dolby right now. I tried PCM as well, but Dolby was better. Is there anything else I can try to change the audio from the Tivo? It's a very noticeable difference in quality of the audio.

Southpark "Stunning and Brave"

Forgot this was on and saw this on my now playing list. Not quite as good as the season 18 finale but still pretty good. I wonder if it will be another season long story arc.

Will upgrading drive void warranty?

I recently got a Roamio 4-tuner TiVO. Have it hooked up to Comcast cable and all works great. I remember reading here that upgrading these units is just a matter of swapping the drive out since the firmware/software needed is on the board and it will then self-install as needed.

I have a 2TB SATA drive that I was thinking of putting in this newly purchased Roamio. If I do so, will it then void the warranty?

Pixelation on AMC, thru Comcast

Hi there,

Not sure where else to put this, so it's going here. :-)

I have Fear the Walking Dead setup to record on a Season Pass. I'd love to watch it live, but I can never tell when the wife will be ready to sit down and watch it with me. Fortunately, I have Sunday Night Football to keep me company, until that time. So last night, I went to my recordings to pull up the show and went to play FTWD. As soon as it starts, the dreaded pixelation comes up, making the show completely unwatchable. No other nearby channel had that issue. I gave it a few minutes and it never cleared up. So, I deleted/stopped the recording and figured I'd try the encore showing, which was starting only 15 minutes later. I set the Tivo to record it, then as soon as the red light came on, I switched over. Same thing. Pixelation. So, I stopped/deleted the recording, and tried to watch it "live". No change. Very pixelated. GRRRR

So, what's the problem? As I stated earlier, no other nearby channels were doing this. (I say "nearby channels" because I didn't go thru all 400+ channels to verify) Is this an indication of an issue with the AMC feed? Is it a Comcast problem? Something wrong with my Premiere box? I'm avoiding a phone call to Comcast, obviously, because I don't want to hear them try to blame my "customer-owned" equipment.

Any other ideas?

Mini can't connect to Roamio

Hello Friends,

i've had my Roamio up and running for a few weeks now, and finally got around to try to set up my mini on Saturday. Wife and baby were gone--time to pull some wire! ;)

So I pulled a brand new Cat-6 to my Roamio. Using an existing connection to the Mini in the theater, right next to my server rack. The Mini did it's download/setup thing fine. Until it came to the restart and the connect to Roamio step.

The Mini cannot find the Roamio on my network. The new Cat-6 seems to work fine. I checked for internet connectivity on a laptop, and the Tivo network diagnostic stuff seems to check out too.

My wiring "schematic"
  • Cable Company DEMARC to splitter
  • Splitter 1 RG6 to modem.
  • Splitter 2 RG6 to coax splitters . . .
  • Surfboard Modem Cat-6 to ASUS router/wifi.
  • Router Cat-6 to switch.
  • Switch to Roamio (via patch panel and keystone behind Roamio)
  • Switch to Mini, direct from switch to mini, no connectors.

Since everything seems to work okay with the Roamio, I'm assuming my new cat-6 and its ends are okay. I read in a thread on here about switch issues. I haven't tried taking the switch out of the equation just yet; will try that tonight, hopefully. I have some management options with my switch which I'll look into also.

Any other thoughts? Thanks for any help/advice/encouragement!:up::up:

And so it begins (the Fall 2015 Season Thread)

The fall season officially begins tonight with a whole host of new Network shows (I get that some stuff already started on cable channels). I thought we could use this thread to talk about shows we like and dislike without going into spoilers.

Have at it.

Roamia OTA stutters on "live", but not rewound or recorded

I posted this in the help section two days ago but did not get a single response, so I'm reposting here where the Roamio experts hang out.

I've had a new Roamio OTA for a few weeks now and just started noticing this behavior on Tuesday. When watching an OTA channel (36-1) live, there is a very minor video and more noticeable audio stutter from time to time. It's slight, but on occasion you hear a syllable repeated, or on a segment with a distinct musical beat, the beat becomes irregular. If you watch a golf putt, the ball does not move smoothly. If I rewind 10 seconds and replay a stuttering section, the audio and video are fine. I do not see the symptoms on recordings.

I can see/hear this on both HDMI and composite outputs on two different TVs.

So far I have only noticed this on one channel, but that is the channel I watch most consistently for live news. It has a signal strength of 72 (max for the OTA apparently) and SNR of 29, no errors, pretty much the same as all my local channels. I did watch all other networks this weekend and did not see the same issue on any of them.

I upgraded the drive last Friday to a 2TB EURX model, but did not see the symptoms until Tuesday. I sure hope it's not the drive if I end up needing to return this for warranty work.

Motherboard temperature (39) seems to be in the normal range that people report.

I can work around the problem by always watching the channel a few seconds delayed, but that's not really ideal.

Any ideas? I don't know enough about Roamio internals to make an intelligent guess, but it seems like somehow the direct path from OTA signal to Roamio output is different than the path to the video buffer, so errors pass through one path but not the other.

Original Slide Remote Problem

I'm having an odd problem with my original TiVo slide remote, which I use with my Series 3. For no good reason (not dropped, not otherwise damaged, batteries are fine), a couple of days ago, it simply stopped controlling the TiVo. Since I don't have the dongle anymore, I was only using it over IR... but it still controls both my TV and my receiver over IR, even from clear across the room, so I know its IR emitter is working fine. I also know the TiVo is responding properly to IR, as I have a battered old remote (the one it originally came with in 2007) that, despite missing some of its plastic, can still control it.

I tried resetting the slide remote, on the chance that perhaps it had somehow been locked to a different DVR "channel" than the one I'd been using, but that didn't help.

Anybody have any suggestions as to what might cause this, and whether there's anything I can do about it?

Thanks!

Flashing lights on Tivo box

On our TV there is a message appearing that says "Please wait...your Tivo box is loading", but this message continues and nothing can make it go away. A minute later all of the buttons on the box begin flashing, and no matter what we press on the remote it won't stop. The only thing we can do when this happens is unplug the device, but as soon as we plug it back in it does the same thing.

Does anyone know what might be wrong with it? We're afraid the box just may be dead, but it is still relatively new-we've owned it for under 2 years.

Anything you could tell us would be great! Thank you so much.

Guide setting up in One Pass: one some, station gets changed to another network

Premier w/ V 20.5.2 F/W:

Trying to setup network series programs using OnePass, on about half the programs, the station I choose to schedule the program on, when I drop down to One Pass, the channel changes to another network station. There is no real pattern to this.
I have two of these and they both do the same thing. I repeated GS, but no change. I didn't see this over the summer, but the few One Passes I did were not regular network series as what is starting up next week.

Some examples are; ABC & NBC switches to CTV (Toronto), NBC switches to USA, CTV switches to ABC (reverse of the above), Global (Canada) switches to CBS, Global switches to CBS.

I have a combination of CATV & OTA feeds. Only about half of the programs are affected. See the attachments. I was on the phone for 90 minutes the other night to support who switched me to a level 2 CSR and he didn't have an answer either, but stated a case on it. I offered to send screen shots in if requested.

All the lineups are fine. The actual listings appear to be correct (correct program, correct network station and correct time).

Can't create OnePass for Modern Family or Last Man Standing on ABC

So I'm setting up One Pass for the new tv season. I get to channel 6 and find Modern Family and Last Man Standing. I click on One Pass, options and when I go to channel, channel 6 doesn't show up. I get USA and 17 (all the old seasons), but I don't get the abc station even though that is the selection I used to create the one pass. Tried it for Modern Family and no dice. But I can record the episode on its own. I got to Last Man Standing and the same thing.

I go to Shark Tank, and it sees it on channel 6 just fine to create a one pass. Every other show on ABC and other channels are just fine. Just those two specific shows. I manually selected to record the first two episodes just fine. But on one pass it just won't see the ABC channel.

Why can I not create a one pass for those two specific shows?

Add Family Guy to that on Fox.

Cable Card from HDHR to Roamio

Whenever I have the prospect of dealing with Verizon support in front of me, I like to try and get smart on what I'll be dealing with. Especially in the black hole of devices you don't pay them $20 a month for and they will blame for any problem.

I currently have a HDHomeRun Prime with a CableCard that works fine. Paired up nice and easy when I got it.

When my Tivo arrives, should I be able to just pop that card into the Tivo and go? Or will I need to have it reactivated or something? Just want to do it right the first and hopefully avoid interacting with Fios "support".

Plex 1080p content

Does anyone know if this has been added or is close? It is my primary holdup for tivo as 80÷ of our content will be there.

Series 2 Tivo dead hard drive

Hi all. My Series 2 Tivo's hard drive just died. It is an 80Gb unit I got back in 2006 with lifetime service. Sure got a good run out of it. I'm comfortable with coming up with a new drive and using MFS tools on it; can anyone help me find a backup image of the OS? Model number is TCD540080.
TIA,
Brian

Best HD upgrade for basic Roamio

Would like to know the best 2tb and 3tb HD I should use to upgrade a basic Roamio? Would the 3 tb use more power and run hotter than the 2 tb? I know there is a thread on this but it is over 100 pages long. Hoping someone smarter than me can save me a lot of time.

Amazon: TiVo incompatible videos?

I was looking at Amazon videos and found the following one which has small text stating "this video is not compatible with tivo".

I thought all videos were compatible now since they all stream. Are there really some videos that won't play on TiVo and if so why not?

http://ift.tt/1NN0owC

Amazon streaming says 'included' but selecting content says it costs $$

I have recently had many streaming movies or content show up in the Tivo UI as "included with subscription" for Amazon but when I select Amazon and their UI loads, it shows up as costing money. What the heck?

Example: Search for Hitchcock's "The Birds" from 1963. It shows up as available to watch now through a few choices. When I select 'See all options' it shows:
Rent on XFINITY VOD HD $3.99
Rent on XFINITY VOD HD $12.99 (I don't know what's different here FYI)?
Rent on XFINITY VOD SD $2.99
Rent on XFINITY VOD SD $9.99 (Same .. . why are there two entries?)
Amazon Instant Video Included with subscription
VUDU Included with subscription
I select Amazon since I have a Prime subscription. When the Amazon UI loads it shows:
24hr HD Rental $3.99
24hr SD Rental $2.99
To confirm that my Tivo/Amazon accounts are actually linked up, I press the 'A' button for 'home' and yep, my Prime Instant Video account home is shown, with my video library available. All of my previously purchased content is there.

So what's up? Why the disconnect? Is this a Tivo data error or an Amazon data error? To whom do I report this as an issue?

If this was a one-off I wouldn't be too concerned but this has happened a few times now. Bull Durham. Transporter. We are Marshall. Prefontaine (which interestingly is also available on Netflix, which loads just fine (and for no cost) as expected.

What the heck? It seems like damn near every entry which is available on both Xfinity and Amazon is advertised as included with Amazon, but loads asking for more money. This has only appeared in the last week (that I've noticed) and things all used to work as expected. This is a relatively new problem. Help!

Roamio basic HD upgrade question

It looks like the basic does not have a fan. Is this going to be a problem if I want to upgrade the HD? If I put a 3tb drive in will it run hotter?
If I do an upgrade should I do it before setting up the Roamio for the first time?

Why is there no category for special in the wishlist?

I make wishlist to record specials on history Channel and other channels. Since I can't make a season pass for them since are on only one time.

Having a category for special would be nice since my wishlist won't record shows I don't want to record

Move external hard drive to new TiVo?

Hi,
I have a TiVo Premiere with an external drive connected. I just bought a Roamio; can I simply plug in that same drive? If so, will all my recorded shows still be there? Obviously I can just give it a try, but I want to make sure I'm not doing to damage any recordings.

TIA!

What happened to the future suggestions list?

i used to be able to go to Browse TV & Movies and look at the list of upcoming items that Tivo intended to record as suggestions. Now that's gone, and I can't find any way to access it. Did Tivo remove it entirely? That is NOT an improvement.

To clarify: No, I don't mean the list of suggestions it already recorded. No, I don't mean the generic improve your suggestions page. I mean the list of specific upcoming shows that it had flagged as things I might want to watch.

Premiere & Roamio in Same Room

I currently have a Premiere and TiVoHD in my family room. The Premiere has the Comcast CableCard in it and the TiVoHD is OTA. I was able to setup the Premiere to be DVR 1 and the TiVoHD to be DVR 2 and use the switch on the old TiVo remote to switch back and forth between the two.

I'm thinking of ditching the TiVoHD for a 4-tuner Roamio and am wondering if I can have the same setup. If I continue using the old remote, can I continue to distinguish between the two? Can I set the Roamio to be DVR 2 and just continuing using the switch to flip between the two?

Thanks for anything you can share.

Doctor Who "The Magicians Apprentice" 9/19/2015

I enjoyed it, perhaps required a lot of past knowledge to really enjoy.

The Doctor on guitar on the tank was classic. I also liked Missy's "not dead. Back. Big surprise. Never mind"

I've mostly avoided story and casting spoilers for the season so I don't know what might happen to who and when !!

Dancing with the Stars - Season 21 (Premiere)

Who are these people?!? :)

On a serious note, looks like the ones to watch are:
- Bindi Irwin
- Tamar Braxton
- Nick Carter
- Alexa & Carlos Benavega
- Alex Skarlatos

Bottom dwellers:
- Chaka Khan
- Paula Deen
- Kim Beirmann
- Victor Espinosa
- Gary Busey

Busey is hilarious...

Transfer shows from TiVo Premier to new TiVo Romeo plus

hello, I searched and hope I'm not duplicating an existing post. I currently have a TiVo Premier (2) Tuner with a 2 TB drive I painfully upgraded 2 years ago. It's 50 percent full with shows and movies I'm not yet ready to get rid of. I have a. Second TiVo Premier (4) tuners standard drive but also full of good stuff. I could transfer the shows I want to save from the TiVo P4 to the older and larger P2 but I have roughly a TB of shows and movies I would like to put on my Romeo Plus . I'll be putting a 6tb drive into the new Romeo plenty of space. I've also purchased 2 TiVo Mini's ! Love the idea only one cable card to rent no matter how many Mini's I get !

If anyone has an answer I'd sure appreciate it.

Switching from FIOS DVR - My experience + Pros & Cons (Long)

OVERVIEW

As a long time Verizon FIOS DVR user, I’ve always been curious about TIVO, however, the steep price to get started always kept me away. I finally decided to take the plunge. Here is a synopsis of the transition, especially for those on Verizon FIOS.

COST ANALYSIS:

My current setup on Verizon:
The only way I’d ever consider a TIVO would be if Lifetime was included. A six tuner TIVO + Lifetime runs almost $900 on the TIVO Website. Even though I have five TVs, the teenager doesn’t want “TV” and only wants a Roku, so now I only need a 4 room system. A 6-tuner Roamio Plus and three Minis ($100 each) would cost $1200. Considering I pay $5 per cable card per month, Im hitting my break-even in 20 months in a Roamio Plus solution.

With the “Summer Sale” I could get two TiVo Roamio Basic DVRs (8-tuners total), both with lifetime, for $600 total. Add two Minis and Im up to $800. Taking into account $10 for two cable cards per month and my break-even is 14.5 months – Much better! If I ever do decide to “cut the cord”, I like that the basic Roamio can do OTA as well as streaming Netflix, Amazon Prime, and PLEX. PLEX was another big factor for me since my 900+ DVD collection has been transferred to my PLEX server.

PURCHASE:

I bought two TiVo Roamio Basic DVRs for $600 with free shipping. I ordered on Sunday and the TiVos arrived on Thursday. I bought two 1st Gen TiVo Minis on Amazon.com for $100 each (on sale) plus free Prime two day shipping. The Minis arrived on Wednesday. I also bought $75 worth of new wiring on Amazon, which included CAT 6 Ethernet cables, HDMI cables, RG6 patch cables, RG6 2.4 Ghz splitters, Component cables, a TiVo Mini Composite/Component cable kit and a TiVo Roamio Composite Cable.

SETUP PLANNING:

I decided Im going to run both my legacy Verizon setup (including all DVRs and STBs) alongside the new TIVO setup. I did this for a few reasons.
  1. In the event we decide we don’t like the TiVo service and decide to return the Roamios to TiVo and the Minis to Amazon within the 30 day window, we still have our original setup with no loss of service or recordings.
  2. There would be a period of a few days where household members may get “flustered” by the new system and revert to Verizon DVR.

Towards the end of the 30 day trial, the family would decide if we can live with TiVo or need to stick with Verizon.
Update: The dual system worked flawlessly.
Update 2: We decided to keep TIVO.

INSTALLATION:

I would rate the TiVo setup as a “difficult” setup. I could never imagine my parents or even some of my less tech savy friends doing this setup on their own. Aside from the usual crawling behind cabinets and running wires, the cable card setup had me flustered, but more on that later.

Each Verizon STB is connected to the network via a RG6 cable & MoCa enabled network. At each box, I elected to split the RG6 line to service the Verizon STB and the TiVo at the same time. Aside from some tighter than usual coax connectors, each RG6 cable split easily and I was able to get each Roamio and Mini connected.

In the rooms where the Minis went, there was no close or available Ethernet wiring, so I was relying on the Verizon ActionTec Rev I router’s MoCa network and built in bridge to provide connectivity. The ActionTec MoCa network worked flawlessly.

Luckily, at each Roamio location, there was convenient Ethernet access and each was connected to the network with the CAT 6 wires purchased at Amazon. Just as a reminder to others thinking about the Roamio Basic, it does NOT have built in MoCa networking like the Mini does. The Plus and Pro does, but I read somewhere that they also create their own MoCa network that has to be disabled if you have the ActionTec running – but I didn’t have to deal with this.

The Roamios were installed first and during the setup, they prompted for the Cable Card installation. I inserted the card provided by Verizon and up popped the Cable Card activation screen. I called the Verizon Cable Card activation line, which was automated, and the computer insisted on activating both Cable Cards simultaneously. Since I was doing one Roamio at a time, I had to hang up and unbox/install the second Roamio and install the cable card on that as well. Once both were ready for activation, I redialed the activation number. I entered the CC Id, Host Id, and Data Id of both cards and was told activation was successful! Again, I couldn’t imagine my parents doing this.

I finished the TiVo setup and it went into an update mode. The upgrade hit 72% on both Roamios and I waited for it to continue. And waited…. And waited…. Finally 2 hours later I suspected cable card issues and went on the FIOS Tech Support website for some insight. The online troubleshooter had me start an online chat with tech support (at 12:45am) and after providing the agent with the CC Id, Host Id, Data Id, and S/N of the cards, the TiVos came to life. The serial number seemed to be very important to the Verizon FIOS representative.

One issue: I subscribe to FIOS Ultimate + HBO STARZ and my HBO and STARZ cannels were missing from the guide. I had to go into the TiVo settings and enable those channels manually so they would show up.

PROBLEMS:

I setup some shows to record overnight and the next day noticed streaming worked from the living room to bedroom TiVo but not the other direction. The bedroom box could “see” and display shows from the living room box but gave me a V90 error when attempting to play.

I also setup two TiVo Mini v1 boxes in a family room and in another bedroom. The bedroom Mini could see both Roamios, but would only connect to the bedroom Roamio. The second Mini had even worse luck – it could see both Roamios but connect to neither.

I called TiVo support and we worked on the room to room streaming issue first. We did several reboots and still no fix. We even reset the ActionTec router and still no luck. I then decided to set static IPs for all four devices and after one more round of resets, everything worked; room to room streaming and Mini to Roamio connections.

TIVO VS FIOS DVR PROS AND CONS:

Here are the things the FIOS DVR does better:
  • In my opinion, the TiVo DVR UI seems crowded, cartoon-y, and has too much advertising in it. I’d prefer the my shows list to be wider so I could read the whole name of the show. The FIOS DVR is much cleaner, better organized, and aesthetically pleasing.
  • The FIOS DVR has less "in your face" advertising. I HATE the advertising on the TIVO pause bar!
  • FIOS allows multiple Series Passes per show. On TIVO, I’d like to be able to set two OnePasses per show, one for reruns (like Big Bang Theory) and another for new episodes only.
  • FIOS lets you specify a particular start time in the Series Pass settings. In the OnePass recording options, I’d like to specify a particular start time also, like 8pm showings only.
  • FIOS never records repeats. At times, the TiVo seems to record repeats even though I specify "new only." I think this may be an issue with bad/stale guide data that TIVO does not update frequently enough.
  • FIOS has not missed a recording in the last four years for me, and I record A LOT of shows. The TiVo has missed the recording of a couple shows and started one recording late, in the first two weeks!
  • FIOS has an instantaneous 30 second skip. I wish the 30 second skip was instantaneous like on the FIOS DVR. I also would like it if the skip time (both forwards and back) were configurable, like on FIOS. FIOS allows 10 secs, 30 secs, 1 min, and 5 mins.
  • All FIOS DVRs have component out on them (they work simultaneously with HDMI). Would have liked to see a component output on the base TiVo.
  • FIOS has multiple sets of "favorite" channels. TIVO needs to have two or three distinct sets of favorites. Also allow the user to apply the favorites when "flipping" channels like on FIOS - I’d like to limit the flips to the favorites currently selected.
  • I would say the FIOS guide is 99.9% accurate while the TIVO guide is in the 90% range. The TiVo guide seems less trustworthy, less reliable, out of date, and lacking info, especially compared with the FIOS guide.
  • I miss the built in clock on the front of the FIOS DVR STB as well as the on screen caller ID.
  • FIOS has OnDemand and PPV. TIVO has no OnDemand, but hey, I knew that going in.
  • FIOS has a “Stop” button on their remote. Not having a Stop button on the TIVO remote is jarring, though I am trying to get used to it.
  • The “old style” FIOS remote control (RC1445302) allows me to access more of my TV’s features and menus. This allows me to set my TV’s sleep timer without the need for a second remote.
  • On the FIOS system, regardless of which TV in my house Im watching, when I go to record a program, FIOS lets me specify which DVR (Living Room or Bedroom) I want it to record on. With TIVO I seem to be limited to the Roamio Im on. FIOS also allows more management control of a DVR from other STBs in the house.

Here are things the TiVo does better:
  • Speed! Using the remote is a pleasure on the TiVo. I can push a button and the TiVo responds immediately. The FIOS DVRs are so slow and clunky – sometimes I’d push a button and have to wait 2 to 3 seconds for a response… ugh!
  • I got to admit, I was a little apprehensive at first, but TiVo integrating Netflix and Amazon Prime into their system is pretty ground breaking. I have some old 90’s shows I like to record and didn’t realize they were even offered by Netflix. Now, when I go to watch those recordings, I switch to Netflix to get better quality and no commercials – very nice. Now, I do think TiVo could work on integrating them better, but it’s a good effort. (Note: after 30 days in, Im liking this more and more!)
  • PLEX support! Im a huge PLEX supporter and have ripped my entire DVD collection onto a Umbuntu Plex Media Server. Of course, the Roku does stream it better, but TiVo does it “well enough.” I would like to see the TiVo include my Plex content in searches and OnePass, like it does for Netflix.
  • Able to set a one-time recording to “Keep until I delete” before it records. I still do not understand, after all these years, the FIOS DVR does not allow you to “protect” a show until AFTER it completes recording. (Just so there is no confusion, then FIOS DVR allows you to set series recordings to “Keep until I delete”, but NOT one-time recordings – ahead of time.)
  • RF Remotes are nice, no more direct line of sight required and they work from greater distances.
  • More storage with upgradability. (Note: I ended up upgrading both TIVOs to 3TB)

Here are some things that the TiVo could improve on:
  • Would have liked to seen the plus/pro offered during the summer sale.
  • Would like to see HBOGO/HBONOW, Showtime Anytime, MaxGo, Epix, Starz, and Encore providers alongside Netflix and Amazon.
  • Would like to see Plex included in the TiVo search results and OnePass.
  • Would be nice to have an option to remap HD channels to SD channel numbers.
  • Sometimes when Im watching a recording and I go into the Tivo menu, then return to my show, I lose audio for 10 seconds.
  • Would be nice if the Mini’s would automatically grab a tuner from the “least busy” TIVO instead of having to manually switch between the two TIVOs I have.
  • Would be nice if TIVO included an OPTION to show all recording from both TIVOs in one list. In fact, it would be nice if the two TIVOs could work together as a team to manage the eight streams (since I have two Basic Roamios) I have available.
  • Would like it if we had access to FIOS OnDemand and Pay Per View, but it is really a FIOS issue, beyond TIVO's control.

CONCLUSION

So, it has been 30 days, and we are keeping TIVO. It really is a better product and the money savings is substantial. We are getting ready to turn in our FIOS equipment but I'm wondering if Verizon will let us keep the HD STB for free so I can continue ordering UFC PPV?? Probably wishful thinking on my part. I guess I can try getting it on the UFC's Roku channel if Verizon doesn't cooperate.

I also recently upgraded the Hard Drives in the TIVOs to 3TB each with Western Digital WD30EURX, which was a pretty painless proposition (Note: I bought a cellphone tool repair kit for the upgrde. I needed the T8 and T10 screwdrivers specifically). This time I used the FIOS Support Twitter account to get my cards re-paired, and it went even quicker and easier than the first time.

Im a big Slingbox guy, so I really don't see the need to get the TIVO Stream, though downloading of shows and movies to my Android/IOS devices is really tempting. Im also thinking of purchasing a Slide Remote for the Living Room. These might make good Christmas gifts to myself.

After hearing about my experience with TIVO, my 60+ year old father decided to get the Basic TIVO w/ Lifetime too. He's a former Charter Cable/DISH Satellite subscriber who decided to cut the cord and switched to Netflix. He has never owned a DVR before and uses the Basic Roamio for OTA only. He had no problem setting it up (he had a simple setup, one TV and no cable card) and LOVES IT.

Roamio Standard - Drive Expansion needed?

Hey guys.

Am really loving our new Roamio. Its been great to see the % of disk full and so far I haven't seen it get close to 100%. I had planned to buy a 2 or 3TB Hard Drive to add to it, but I'm wondering if that is even necessary. With all the streaming content and more of it moving that way, it seems like storage is less of an issue.

For those Roamio base owners out there, what has driven yo to expand the HD? Am I not taking full advantage of al the recoding options that other are?

Today is the first day I might actually come close - recording Davis cup tennis and 3 college football games. maybe my tune will change.

All feedback appreciated - thanks!

Slide Pro Remote Sucks - What Am I Missing??

Hey there,

Just got a slide pro to go with our new Roamio and am very disappointed.

I thought it would really help with inputting account credentials to all the streaming services, but ever time i try to use it it seems to add double characters or sometimes misses my keyboard input. I constantly have to edit the input, which makes it slower than the tedious normal input. I don't see any backlighting value to it either.

What am I missing?!? Is it defective? At this point i'd rather have a standard remote as its lighter.

Thanks!

What's Going on Here - 82 Clients Connetcted

Setup:
Verzion FiOs
ActionTec MI424WR rev. I
Asus RT-N66u
TiVo Roamio Pro (Ethernet and MoCA enabled)
TiVo Mini

I recently changed my Actiontec to a bridge and started using the Asus router as a router instead of just an access point. I'm thinking I might have screwed up the setup somehow with the Roamio Pro and/or the ActionTec. It all basically works but when I look at the Network map on the Asus it shows me a large number of clients connected. In the case of the screen shot it shows 82. It should be around 10.

Before switching to using the Actiontec as a router I was using MoCA for all connections to the Roamio. After switching I needed to use an Ethernet cable to connect to the Roamio from my PC. When I disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Roamio the number of clients drops to what it should be. While my PC can no longer see the Roamio via KMTTG the Mini has no problem watching TV or any recorded programs on the Pro. The second I plug the Ethernet cable back into the Roamio the number of clients increases rapidly. (Under 5 seconds) When I double click on the MAC address of the item with that shows 74 clients connected it shows Juniper Networks as the manufacturer.

Did I screw something up? Do I need to change a setting?

Mini with 20.5.2a ??

Did anybody get the new software update 20.5.2a on their Mini?? I got that update on all my Roamio units, but non of my Mini units.

Clock addon?

I'm looking for a small, not-too-bright, clock to put on top of my tivo. SOmething that sets itself would be ideal. I didn't realize how much I used the clock on my old DVR till it was gone!

Any ideas? Thanks.

New software release pending reboot question..

I guess I got the new software update my last status is pending restart. I was wondering since I am having to remove everything from the rear of my unit to get it to reboot if I could go ahead and do the reboot myself? If I do the reboot myself will Tivo still do a reboot anyway?

Roamio OTA stutters on "live", not on rewind or recorded

I've had a new Roamio OTA for a few weeks now and just started seeing this behavior on Tuesday. When watching an OTA channel live, there is a very minor video and more noticeable audio stutter from time to time. It's slight, but on occasion you hear a syllable repeated, or on a segment with a distinct musical beat, the beat becomes irregular. If I rewind 10 seconds and replay a stuttering section, the audio and video are fine. I do not see the symptoms on recordings.

So far I have only noticed this on one channel, but that is the channel I watch most consistently for live news. It has a signal strength of 72 (max for the OTA apparently) and SNR of 29, no errors, pretty much the same as all my local channels.

I upgraded the drive last Friday to a 2TB EURX model, but did not see the symptoms until Tuesday.

Motherboard temperature (39) seems to be in the normal range that people report.

I can work around the problem by always watching channels a few seconds delayed, but that's not really ideal.

Any ideas?

Edit: I should mention that I can see/hear this on both HDMI and composite outputs on two different TVs

OTA model won't boot past "One Moment"

Total newbie here, haven't had Tivo since the pre-HD DirecTivo days.

Picked up an OTA in hopes of being able to record some stuff again. Start setting up, enduring the *still* incredibly long boot process that hasn't changed in 10 years :D and go through to the hopefully final download that will take up two 1 hour!!??!?! Then the install process will take up to another hour? Sheesh. This thing must be good.

So 12+ hours later, it is stuck at "One Moment" with a blue ring that looks as though it should be animated and rotating, but it isn't.

I power cycled several times, and it goes through the typical startup, then the Just a few more minutes or whatever it says, then the screen flickers a couple of times with some sort what sounds like error tones at each flicker. Then the dreaded One Moment shows its face again.

I tried some searching here but didn't find anything so sorry if this has been covered.

Do I have a defective unit or something?

Help troubleshooting manual recordings

I don't have a long one-pass list but I'm frustrated trying to get manual recordings to schedule properly. I'm a football fan and have had fits with Tivo not recording games with an ordinary season pass so I just schedule Fox and ABC to record 10AM-5PM. So far so good. Then I setup another manual recording for Sunday night at 5:25-9. Tivo tells me this 3rd recording won't happen due to conflicts even though there's 25 minutes between the end of the first shows and the Sunday night game.

Frustratingly, Tivo just tells you there's a conflict and tells you what conflicts but not why. Hidden is the end time of the manual recording or any way to edit it without recreating it. What's going on ? Before my last device reset, I was able to do this manual recording setup. It's like Tivo is ignoring my start and end times and just recording the entire shows that are scheduled within the time of the manual recording, thus expanding the record window.

Reactivating old TCD746320 - OTA

My wife and I have used TiVo since we bought our first in early 2008. The city we lived in from 2006-2013 allowed us to use whichever DVR we wanted as long as we rented a cable card from them for $2.50 per month. In 2010 we upgraded from the Series 2 to this one and used it for 3 years

We moved in October of 2013 and the new cable company would only allows us to use their DVR, but we were lucky and moved right as they were adding TiVo, and TiVo minis as their "in house" DVRs. Due to that in 2013 we ended our contract with TiVo.

Fast forward 2 years and we have decided that the $90 per month it cost for cable, on top of internet, just isn't worth it. We cut the cord in July, and have just been using a solid indoor RCA antenna in our living room. Sitting in my recliner tonight it dawned on me that we have both our Series 2 and Series 4 Premier sitting in our basement still and can actually record the 20 some OTA channels we get for free.

TL;DR - can I run the coax from my indoor antenna to my Series 4 Premier and still get the full TiVo "experience" with the guide, recording of multiple channels, etc... by paying the $14.99 fee? OR is that not possible with the TiVo I own?

Tivo premier xl and xfinity on demand probelms

For the last several months our on demand has been very sporadic. We can sometimes watch a program but mostly get error messages with csm-11 and csm-12 codes. We have tried rebooting and sometimes that works for a little while and others not. We've called tivo and comcast repeatedly and even had a tech from comcast out. Tivo says it's a comcast problem and comcast says it's a tivo problem.

Mini Dies

My Mini must be unplugged and plugged back in going through the wait screen every time I turn off the TV in the wife's sewing room. The mini is connected to my router the same router as my Tivo that feeds the den TV. I don't understand why the mini must be unplugged and restarted. Help.

MoCA question

I had some trouble with my CC install today and am going to try again tomorrow, but I have a quick question about setting up MoCA. I have one line coming to the outside of my house from the pedestal outside. That line is split in two, with a direct run straight to my cable modem, and the other split goes into a POE filter and then another splitter that feeds runs that go to the wall outlets at the TV locations. I assume that this would keep the MoCA network only on the TV feeds and keep the signal from going downstream and back to the first line that feeds my modem.

Is it correct that I would then do one final split at the Tivo with one line directly to the Tivo and the other line I should install a second POE filter right before the "In" on my Tuning Adapter? I think I've read this, but I'm unclear on whether this is correct.

Is it possible to purchase PPV with Cox On Demand?

I was very happy to see Cox On Demand arrive shortly before the Floyd Mayweather fight. I figured I'd be able to purchase the PPV. But the day of the fight I couldn't find anyplace in my Roamio Pro's Cox On Demand menu to do so. As a result I had to go get a Cox box for the day which was a huge inconvenience.

Is there another way to accomplish this or is it simply impossible?

Cox CableCard not Pairing

So I just had Cox here to install my cable and we couldn't get the CC to pair with a brand new Tivo I got on Amazon. The tech had a second card with him so we tried that as well and it wouldn't pair either. The thing is, if I take out the CC and try to tune to a local channel, not digital, the Tivo said I might need a CC to watch the channel and wouldn't display the channel. I did a channel scan and it picked up over 400 channels, but still wouldn't tune to any of them. Do I have a dud Tivo?

Mini remote with Netflix

Hi all, I have both Roamio OTA and Tivo Mini and everything works awesome and can't be happier as my wife is happily watching shows on Netflix via the Mini.

However there is one little thing that I cannot figure out. The Roamio remote has the Back button that easily takes you back to the main page in Netflix if you are in the middle of viewing a show/movie. The Mini remote doesn't have this. It seems the only way to bail out on a show/move in Netflix is to just press the Tivo button on top of the remote and re-enter Netflix from the beginning. Is there a quicker way to accomplish this? It's a little annoying having to take extra steps and time to change shows/movies or profiles.

Thanks!

TiVo TSN numbering

Just for posterity, some notes about how TiVo does their TSN numbering.
What prompted me is the latest screenshot of the Bolt info screen. We know it's 849, but the screen showed 8F9... looking back at my TiVo Model Information spreadsheet and wmcbrine's original first sighting of a Mini, they apparently always use 0x?F? for Evaluation hardware... the AF2 wmcbrine saw, the 8F9 bolt, and I also sighted a 6F2 as a sample TSN on the Australian website when the real Australian models include 663.

Also, clearly they recognize they're running out of top-level numbers by giving the bolt another 84x number instead of going to 9 or even just 85x.

Finally, I haven't taken the time to decode it, but I feel 2 or 3 numbers after those first 3 identifies a sub-model. Generally drive size.

In general (with specific exceptions especially for international versions):
0 is Series 1
1,2,3,5 are Series 2
6 is Series 3
7 is Series 4
8 is Series 5 and Series 6 (and some international Series 4)
A is non-recording models (Mini, Stream, and Preview)
B is ONO (Spain)
C is Virgin Media
D is Pace
E is ComHem (Sweden)

So all they have left (without reusing like they're doing for 8) is 4 (inexplicably), 9, and F.

New Roamio 4-tuner unit stuck on "One Moment..." during guided setup

Hello,
New Tivo user here - in fact, I've never had a DVR before, so this is all new to me. I bought a Roamio and a mini. Started of course first with the Roamio and it's stuck. It's hooked up with Ethernet run straight to the unit from my router. I started up the guided setup and all seemed to be going well. It connected to the network, recognized my cablecard, asked for my zip code, etc., then got to a point where it said there was a major update for it, and that it would take upwards of an hour, maybe more. I may not have the exact sequence of steps it did at this point, but it rebooted, went to the welcome screen, then the almost there screen for a few minutes, then to a screen with a small rectangle that says "One Moment....". Since it said it could take an hour or more, I left it there for 2-1/2 hours then decided something must not be right and I rebooted it. Same thing. So I tried disconnecting the coax and Ethernet and rebooted again. Same thing. So I hooked those back up, rebooted again and left it overnight. Still the same. It seems I have a bad unit. Any suggestions for anything else I can try.

Thanks in advance!

Mini Channel Filter Selection

I have a Roamio Plus and two Minis. On the Plus I set up All, My Channels, and Favorites lists. When watching on the Plus I can change filter in channel guide and it works as expected.

However, on the Minis even though the guide seems to offer the same filtering options, they see whatever is the current selection on the Plus.

Anyone know how to allow the individual Minis to be able to select individual filters?

TIA

Unauthorized Modifications Detected?

I get a message when I go to download something from my TiVo to my iPhone: unauthorized modifications detected - streaming device will not work if unauthorized modifications have been made to iOS. I've never had any problem until yesterday when I downloaded OS 9

Tivo Stream "not working" error when I turn on the app in Android

I am using Stream with a Samsung 4 Tablet on Android.

Every time I turn on the app, I get a "not working" error. Sometimes I can skip this and just go right to the app. This is newest app.

Other times I have to run the setup again.

Any idea on what's happening here? How can I resolve this?

Please help. Thanks.

CEO Rogers: TiVo getting around $2 per sub per month

http://ift.tt/1W7Bzg4

Quote:

TiVo is collecting revenue averaging out to $2 per subscriber across the nearly one dozen U.S. cable operators it provides its advanced video operating systems to, according to company CEO Tom Rogers.

CEO Tom Rogers Rogers Speaking to investors at the Goldman Sachs Communicopia conference in New York, Rogers outlined TiVo's operator business that is second only to top programmer ESPN in generating per-subscriber revenue in the pay-TV ecosystem.

"We will reach one billion pay-TV subscribers in the next three or four years," Rogers said. "The gross margins of that business have expanded 65 percent overall" just in the past year. TiVo today counts around 6 million total subscribers; around 1 million of those purchase the company's services directly from TiVo and the remaining 5 million stem from cable operators that resell TiVo's services to their subscribers. In TiVo's most recent quarter, around half of the company's new 284,000 MSO customers came from international operators selling TiVo services, and the other half came from North American operators selling TiVo. Thus, much of the company's growth likely will come from overseas.

TiVo has established a beachhead with smaller cable operators, which don't have the R&D resources themselves to create advanced video delivery technology. The company just signed an agreement to forge individual deals with National Cable TV Cooperative operators.

Rogers described TiVo as "running the table with Tier 2 operators." He described "one North American operator which has more than 1 million subscribers, and who took a $30 million write-off" when it abandoned its efforts to develop an advanced video system with a rival technology company. "We were able to get them up and running in just a few months, and we did it for a fraction of the cost that they flushed down the drain with another company," Rogers said.

He added that services for cable operators continue to generate the bulk of TiVo's income. However, revenue from its Digitalsmiths acquisition increased 65 percent year-over-year in the second quarter, with contracts with Tier 1 operators including Comcast beginning to pay dividends.

Meanwhile, TiVo has also begun to exploit in earnest data from its installed base of fully-owned set-tops sold at retail. It recently reached a deal to sell data to Viacom, for example.

Late Show with Stephen Colbert - Thurs, 9/17

I just pulled-up my Late Show recording for tonight, only to find it had recorded NFL overrun and the 10pm news for the first 48 minutes and counting.

I killed the recording and set a new one-off, w/ a 1-hour post-padding.

p.s. Oh, I'm in Central TZ, so your mileage may vary.

Tivo Remote Control codes for Yamaha RX-V379BL receiver?

I've been using my various TiVo remotes for more than a decade to control both the TV and receiver in whatever system I've had, including powering both devices on and off, receiver volume and mute, and TV inputs.

I just replaced a very old Denon 3300 receiver with a Yamaha RX-V379BL receiver, and while I am able to set up the TiVo remote to control the Yamaha's volume and mute, I can't find a working code to turn the Yamaha on and off (simultaneously with the TV).

I'd like to set the remote up so that "Power" turns both the TV and Yamaha on and off. A big bonus would be if the TiVo remote "input" button could control input selection on the Yamaha, but I can live without that.

A 'universal' type programmable remote is a nonstarter - I need to use the TiVo remote to do this.

Anyone have any idea how I can find the appropriate code for the remote?

Can the Roamio RF remote learn codes?

Any information on the new tivo update?

My tivo just rebooted while recording and now it's installing new update. I can't find any information on here about the update. I don't know the software version is yet because it is still installing the update

My Roamio has learned a new trick

I know we have all seen, during a commercial, the "Hit Thumbs Up" to schedule this program. But last night, during The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, something new has been added.

If you have PCM enabled or are using headphones AND you are using FFx2 to skip the promo commercial, there will be a little "chime" heard. This music does not happen at normal speed or FFx3 or FFx1 or if using DD for sound.

I wonder who at TiVo thought to add this? I took about an hour to figure out the proper combination to make the cute little chime happen or not. I love TiVo. :D

Can't sign in

This is not my name. When I try to sign in it tells me I get my password wrong. When I ask for my password to be sent, I try several and am told that email address is not recognized. When it says contact an administrator, I am sent to outer space and have no idea what is happening. Is there another way to get help?

Which current mainstream talk show hosts do you like ?

Mostly focused on the network TV + Conan.

Yes the past was better etc. but who do you like that's on now ?

You can pick more than one.

Apologies to Conan for typoing his name. Can I fix that ?

Roamio OTA removes channels from the channel lineup.

I moved my antenna to get a better signal and started receiving signals from a station about 100miles away. The signal comes clear at night with one HD subchannel plus one SD subchannel. I get no program guide for some reason. The channels also get removed during the nightly update and I need to rescan to bring them back. Is this expected ?

Need help

Just got off the phone with Tivo. You know they have the basic Roamio on sale for 149 with 249 life time. Wanted to get the new over the refurb because I have never had a new Tivo always bought used. But then they said if I wanted a plus or pro I could get lifetime for 99 since I am a long time customer. I was going to upgrade the basic with a 3tb drive lets say for 120. So I can get the basic and upgrade the drive for around 520 or get the plus for 500 but that only has the 1tb drive. I don't think I would use the streaming much or at all on the plus. I would be getting the 6 tuners instead of 4. I have a series 4 with a 2tb and it is 75% full. It is on it's last legs. What should I do, what should I do?

**Sorry I was in such a rush I forgot to finish the title of the thread. I do need help, more ways than one.

Roamio Plus upgrade questions

I finally got myself a new TiVo a little while ago, and already I'm quickly running out of space, so I figure it's probably time to upgrade the hard drive (as I've done for several of my previous TiVos).

But I have some questions first:

1) With my prior upgrades, I always would save the original drive so that if/when the new drive failed in the future, I could use the old one to copy the software to a new drive - is it true that I won't need to do that with the Roamio, that putting a clean drive in will automatically set up the correct software?

2) It currently has the stock 1 TB drive - without dealing with an external enclosure, can I add a second drive (interally) or in order to upgrade do I need to completely replace the drive with a larger one (and in the process, copy everything from the current to the new)?

Thanks!
