Penny Dreadful: Season 1 Discussion - *SPOILERS!*

There is only one Penny Dreadful episode thread, so I decided to start a season thread for open discussion.

Since the season concluded June 29th, this thread WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS for those not caught up.

Enjoy!

Under the Dome S02E01 06-30-14 - Spoilers -

Now that is an ending. Overall a good episode and I like this new mystery girl and I wonder what is in that locker. They have no problem killing off key players it seems. Can't wait for next week!

Tivo 20.4.2 Summer Release

I stumbled across this in Twitter by accident.

http://ift.tt/1x8q4bX

Margret has announced they are taking the TSN for the next release very shortly.

Never mind, this was already posted by the group earlier today. : )

Ctivo Remote Download Settings Roamio

I was wondering if anyone knew how to setup remote downloading while I'm on the road with Ctivo?

Thanks everyone!

New MTR-700 Tuning Adapter Firmware 1.39

Charter delivered a new Arris branded MTR-700 today, and it came with firmware version 1.39. Havent seen any mention of this anywhere online - previous latest version was 1.37. The firmware has a Feb 2014 date (vs sometime on 2009 1.37). Of course no release notes, so no idea what may have been changed or fixed. The only physical difference is the box now says Arris instead of Motorola.

All started after 2 months of fighting with Charter trying to get my Motorola MTR-700 firmware update from 1.33 to 1.37. On the advice of another forum member, I submitted an FCC complaint. Took several weeks for any action, but then they got serious.

The Last Ship S01E02 "Welcome to Gitmo"

Eh it was OK. I wonder how the Gitmo detainees were able to find all of the traditional garb to wear so they looked like traditional enemy combatants.

Then I like it how they just trusted that the Tex guy wasn't exposed or infected and didn't quarantine him or something.

Change USB Ports for Tuning Adapter?

I have a Roamio Plus with two Minis on Charter Cable with a Cisco Tuning Adapter. On 3-4 occasions, I have lost a few digital channels, sometimes more than others. The first time this happened, I gritted my teeth and called Charter support. After taking me through several things, the support person suggested rebooting the TA and changing it to a different USB port on the Tivo. This did the trick. After that, this is the procedure I have used when I notice untunable digital channels. This is not a big deal, and in the larger scheme of things, just an annoyance, but I was wondering if there was anything else that could be done to prevent this occurrence?

Poor closed captioning for Love Boat on MeTV

I don't know who's responsible for the closed captioning on these old TV episodes from the late 70s/early 80s, but they're pretty bad.

It's as if they paid someone to caption the dialogue on a mostly "best effort" basis. About 10-20% of the dialogue is missing, and often they'll just insert [INDISCERNIBLE] as the caption when it was pretty understandable to me.

I've even seen typos or wrong words in the captioning, which wouldn't be too bad, but then it pauses and a correction is subsequently given, which seems more like what would happen if it were being captioned live. I would think that for a recorded program, a captioner would simply correct the previous error.

Fortunately, I don't need captions to enjoy the program. I just like having them on in case I happen to miss hearing something due to background noise.

I wonder whether these poor captions are common to other MeTV programs, or if it's just these syndicated Love Boat episodes.

Californication - Grace 6/29/14 - SERIES Finale *SPOILERS*

Was anyone else still watching this?

I almost gave up last season, but saw it through to the end. This season was actually pretty good...no where near as good as the first couple seasons, but some good laugh out loud moments.

Last night was the series finale...

My thoughts before watching was that he was either going to end up with Karen in the end, or end up dead. Considering this was always a comedy and romance, my expectation was for him to end up with Karen in the end which did happen, but I thought it wasn't handled that well. Flying off in the plane together shouldn't have been the end.....They've gotten back together and broken up so many times, I think it needed to be more permanant. (Wasn't it the end of the 1st season where she jumps in his car with Becca and Hank in her wedding dress and drives off?)

What I would have liked to have seen is that after they got on the plane and he was sitting next to her, that they then show a montage of their future, set to music..them getting to NY, getting married, having another baby, him having a new best selling book, etc....something to show that this was a change of life for him permanantly verses another short, screwed up chapter in in life.

Fun show at times, totally messed up at times, but worth the time to watch.

Tivo stream can't setup, no help from Tivo

Hopefully someone has seen this before, could not find any answer on this error.

New Tivo stream, ipad (2 of them), iPhone, android = tivo app on ipad! iphone and android cannot connect and crashes network.

Tivo Roamio Plus is working fine:

- setup ok

- access online via Ethernet

- network remote enable

- media access key ok

When I download the Tivo app on ipad (or any other unit even remote app on android) I get an error message : at first it tells me that Media Access Key invalid, then I try connecting with tivo.com credentials and that is when the app just returns an error : connection to tivo lost and my entire network crashes (yes my router loses total connection to internet !!!).

Tivo support just sent me a new Tivo unit... But I still have the same problem with apps, I cannot open them at home and do the setup.

I have been able to successfully access my Tivo from 3G network (as in outside of house) but cannot stream as it was not setup in the house, android app also connects when outside to schedule recordings.

As soon as I come home, devices on same network, apps won't open, crash entire network...

Only clue I have is error on ipad that shows up on/off :

Error:appGlobalDataSearch

Code:mindUnavailable

Using Tivo Roamio Plus

Router Netgear Blackhawks on - try on original firmware and DDWRT firmware

2 different ipad minis, 1 android phone, 1 iphone

I have been on phone with Tivo for a couple months but aside from sending me a new unit they cannot help with the apps, they tell me it is a problem with my network.

For the record, no other problem with network, it only crashes when I try to open a tivo app an a mobile device.

NYC TIvo-ers: I need some direct answers!!!

If you REALLY know the answers to these, please respond.

Since the new TWC lineup, are your basic channels (CBS, MSNBC, PBS, &c.) coming through in HD? NOT JUST WIDESCREEN BUT WITH HD-QUALITY? Mine are now widescreen but with the same bleary smeary SD.

Does the above problem have any connection at all to the whole tuning-adapter-SDV thing having to be implemented in one's setup **IN NYC**? (I live in upper Manhattan.)

What has been your experience relating to these questions? I ask for NYC so I can be assured that I can apply your wisdom to my own future actions without fear that your wisdom doesn't apply to my area! Thanks.

The Leftovers S1E1 "Pilot" 6/29/14

I liked it! Parts of it definitely had a "Lost" feel.

Questions so far:

What's with the deer/moose? I got the impression it was the main character's dad in animal form somehow but then it got eaten at the end.

What's with the dogs?

Why did Mom join the cult?

What's with the cult? The smoking but not talking thing was weird. And the sign they held up...how is talking any more wasting breath than smoking?

Wayne seems weird too. Is he another cult leader? Clearly not the same cult, right?

I'd be totally fine if they never explained where the "heroes" went, but I suspect much of the show will be focused on that.

Few Features Missing concerning season pass setup

One thing that Directv does which is awesome is add upcoming shows to the search as place holders so you can set up a season pass type recording for them despite there not being any guide data for that show.

Lets say I see a commercial for "XYZ Program" on ABC that I find interesting and will be part of their lineup in a month or so. If I search on Tivo for that program there won't be anything there. When I had D* the program would show up in search and I could set up a season pass for it despite there not being any programing info for that show. Was a nice feature since its a PIA to have an extra step to make a reminder to check later on if its been added to the guide or not.

When the show started the DVR would then record it just like any other season pass. Sure I could use a wish list for this hoping that I got it and not too many other shows that might share a similar name but that really isn't a full solution.

____________

Another issue with Tivo guide is if you have a season pass, lets say Cosmos since this specifically happened with this show, and the guide info changes slightly the season pass for that show gets borked and will no longer record.

Ok so that is annoying and shouldn't happen. Never happened on my D* DVR. I'll delete the season pass and start a new one. Oh well you CAN'T DO THAT because now Cosmos was near the end of its season and might only have one showing for the show. The system prevent you from making a season pass if there is only 1 show listed in the guide. Even though the show was coming back for its season conclusion the week after it just wasn't in the guide yet.

Bad enough Tivo dropped the original season pass. Double bad I have to record single episodes until the system lets me create another season pass for it a couple of weeks later. Very annoying.

Big Brother 16; OAD 6/29/2014

Thought I would get this started since a show watcher spilled into the spoiler thread.

Thoughts:

Devin is not long for this game. He is going off the rails crazy in the house after just a week.

I hate that Donny is nominated as I find him entertaining.

Brittney is hot.

Amber is, too.

Frankie did Victoria dirty.

This battle of the block business takes up too much time. When the house is 16 people full I would rather see more interactions than waste time on ANOTHER competition.

King Write's for "Under the Dome"

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The fictional Maine town of Chester's Mill is "Under the Dome" for a second season, and author Stephen King, on whose novel the popular show is based, has written the first episode for this summer's run.

The CBS miniseries that led the ratings much of last summer returns for another 13 episodes beginning Monday (10 p.m. EDT), with King telling viewers that no one in Chester's Mill is assured of making it through the season alive.

Ethernet Switch with Roamio Base

I'm fairly new to Tivo and still learning some things. I have a question. I currently have a Roamio Base and a Mini connected via MoCA... I used two MoCA adaptors: one at my modem/router to create my MoCA network and another is connected to my Roamio Base to bridge the connection. The adaptors I use ( Actiontech ECB2500C) only have one ethernet out port....my problem is at the location of my Roamio Base I need an extra ethernet connection for my Apple TV.....my question is can I buy and use an Ethernet Switch (hub) and connect the ethernet cable from my actiontech adaptor to the switch then use the ethernet switch's ports to go to my Roamio Base and Apple TV or will that setup not be compatible? I know I could buy the actiontech ECB3500T which has four ethernet ports but thats more expensive than buying a switch.....any input is appreciated..thanks!

Considering moving to TiVo Premiere DVR

Considering moving to TiVo Premiere DVR

I've been using Beyond TV what seems like forever now But with no evolution in the product, and the crazy setup of HD-PVRs, HVR-2250, USB-UIRTs, and now some issues with the 2250s stuttering and the HD-PVR not putting out the same quality picture and sound as newer DVRs, I really just want new technology.

I've been doing a comparison of what BTV does for me and my cable company offers a TiVo Premiere DVR for $12.95 a month, no TiVo subscription necessary. And with TiVo Desktop, I think I can do everything that BTV does, except the SmartSkip. Anyone out there using TiVo now after using BTV, or has experience with the TiVo system?

True Blood - "I Found You" - 6/29/14

Ooh, Eric. And Jason.

Then Eric! and he is alive. Maybe a hep-v vamp saved his life?

What is Arlene?? That was crazy! This could be very interesting. She sure has been through a lot! I hope this has some positive outcome for her.

I know this had been hashed before but...

Just wondering if there was any word on Android support. With the AEREO SCOTUS decision AEREO pulled the plug Saturday at 11:30am. I was ok using it as a substitute, now that it's gone I'm back to needing a TiVo Stream Android support.

My tablet is 4.2.2 my phone is 4.4.2, perhaps Chromecast support would be off the chain.

@tivodesign

As a seasoned programmer the more v87 errors I see the more I question my Tivo loyalty. 10 years as a loyal customer is quickly fading.. This error is obviously a bug within the code. The error almost always happens on recordings that are active (not complete). The system will fail to fast forward then the particular recording will fail with v87 over and over. Can't blame this on a network connection when every other saved recording and live TV continues to work.

Another Roamio disappointment

Let me start by saying I've been with Tivo for over a decade, and it's still my favorite DVR. But aside from the ongoing failure of getting streaming to Android devices to work, there's one thing that still really bothers me about my Roamio Pro: Home media access.

I just shut down my old Windows Home Server that I built in 2008. I was using Tivo's Home Media apps to view my photos and listen to my music through the Tivo and it had worked just fine (despite its dated user interface).

Now I bought a Synology DS412+ NAS that comes with seeming a lot of capability, to include DLNA. But I find that out-of-the-box, my state-of-the-art Roamio Pro won't talk to it at all!

I've looked around, and it seems I can go through some Linux machinations to get PyTivo running on the DS412+, involving putty, ssh, and maybe some voodoo chant.

I've also found some other media streaming boxes that apparently *will* talk to the DS412+ right out of the box. So I ask myself, *why* is this second generation "one box to rule them" Roamio Pro *still* not easily able to communicate with NAS devices?

So now I put this issue up to the many of you who are much farther along than I am in this new "quest": here, in mid-2014, what do YOU recommend for viewing my personal photos, music, and movies (mostly home movies) on my 2007 HDMI HDTV?

Problem: can't program The Leftovers online

Away on vacation and forgot to program "The Leftovers" premiere tonight at 10 pm.

Logged into TiVo.com and pulled up HBO at 10pm tonight and...the guide displays nothing. In fact, it changes the channel displayed from 300 (HBO) to 302 because it has nothing to show for HBO.

Searched for the show name "The Leftovers" and all that comes up is "The making of The Leftovers."

So, how is this happening? Why can't I find one the most highly anticipated shows on Tivo.com and program it to record?

Tivo/Receiver Dropping Audio

Greetings all.

I have Roamio Pro connected by HDMI to a Yamaha RX-A 1030. Worked great since we got it around Christmas 2013 until a few weeks ago. Now, about 10% of the time, when switching channels from Channel A to Channel B, the sound immediately is out on Channel B. The image appears on the TV, but no sound. When I switch back to Channel A and then go back to Channel B, the audio on Channel B is usually fine. I have also found that I can fix the issue by turning on and off the receiver - but as you can imagine this is a pain.

What I am seeing on the front of the Yamaha may be helpful. When switching between channels normally (and not having any audio issues), the front panel will briefly display "Decoder Off" followed immediately by "Dolby Digital". When the audio glitch occurs, the receiver displays "Decoder Off" followed by "Analog". If I change channels again, I will typically see "Decoder Off", followed by "PCM" and then "Dolby Digital".

I've tried switching inputs on the receiver - no change. I've also noticed that the glitch happens when using the TIVO box to watch You Tube clips if I rewind the clip to the beginning. Every other box that I have plugged into the receiver works flawlessly - Oppo BD player, Roku 3, PS4.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance your your help.

Matt

What can cause reboots besides psu/hard drive?

I have a 652 unit suffering frequent reboots. The PSU has been recapped, to no improvement. That PSU was then swapped with an identical unit that has had no symptoms in 6 months runtime. Issue still occurs.

I just today put a fresh image on another hard drive, and it just rebooted on me again.

I've never seen one that couldn't be fixed with a hard drive, or PSU caps. Any ideas, or is this one just sadly fit for the recycle bin?

Desktop Plus/Roamio Problem

I have Tivo Desktop Plus, plus a Tivo HD connected wirelessly along with a Base Roamio connected wirelessly. All are on the same network.

Tivo desktop plus shows both Tivos.

The HD DOES show my PC in the Now Playing List.

The Roamio does NOT show my PC in the Now Playing List.

I have tried rebooting everything. I have tried re-linking Desktop Plus to my account and it links just fine. I have stopped Tivo Server and restarted it.

I just can't get the Roamio to show my PC.

Any suggestions how to get my PC to show up on the Roamio??????

Web videos stop downloading

For months now, the Android Authority web videos have not been downloaded to my Tivo even though I've had a Season Pass for a long time. The CNet videos still download properly, though.

I've deleted the season pass and recreated it. One video downloaded and then it all stopped again.

Any ideas what's going wrong?

S3 began failing and not restarting - bulging caps - need advice

Hello all - One of my 648250B upgraded Tivo's began getting pixelated and then started restarting daily. As of last night it will no longer boot up so i opened her up and lo and behold I have 3 bulging caps but I have a bunch of questions about replacing them.

1 - I have never soldered but am handy. I watched a few Youtube videos and think I can handle desoldering and soldering....am I crazy to do it myself with no experience? Will this cheap kit do the trick?

http://ift.tt/1q2WuCm

2 - What is the white stuff holding some of the caps together? Do I need to reapply this stuff after replacing?

3 - [Found a source]How do I find the exact model/spec of the bulging caps and where do I order? http://ift.tt/1q2WuSG

here are some photos I took of the 3 bulging caps - any info and advice is really welcomed.

XFINITY On Demand User Interface: the worst

Anyone else hate the Tivo XFINITY On Demand user interface? All the drilling down and menu navigation. Why do they have separate menus for HD and SD? That should be a preference stored in the configuration you set and forget. It's particularly bad for watching the next show in a TV series. Why can't it at least put the most recently rented TV series at the top of the list? Instead you have to drill down like you've never watched it before. It doesn't tell you which shows have been watched once the rental expires.

FOr TV shows, it should remember the last show watched and provide a link to the next show in the series or at least back to the list of shows from that season.

The Tivo Search is the only work-around to save a few button pushes, but it's still a lot of navigation to get back to the next show in a series. It's great to have On Demand available on the Tivo, but man what a bad interface.

Upgrading internal hard drive

I'm thinking about uograding the internal hard drive in my Roamio Basic. Is it really just as simple as popping the case, removing the old drive, and inserting the new one? I upgraded the drive in my Premiere, and done various computer uogrades, so stuff like this isn't a problem, but I don't currently have a computer, just my smartphone (Obviously I couldn't upgrade a Premiere lol), so if it does require a computer, I'm out of luck.

If that's all that's required (I realize I'm going to start from scratch regarding settings, season passes, recordings, everything), what model hard drives are recommended? I see Red NAS drives from Western Digital that aren't much more than regular drives. Are those worth it? And how many hours of recording time (About) would I get for 1TB? 2 TBs? Keep in mind I'm recording OTA?

Slow local browsing on Roamio Plus

I'm having trouble with my Roamio Plus. While browsing My Shows I'm frequently greeted with a spinning blue circle. Why is my Roamio sluggish when selecting shows stored locally on it's own hard drive?

Limit Season Passes

Is there anyway to limit season passes to certain seasons with syndicated shows? For example, my local CW airs Modern Family twice a day. The 6:30 slot is currently the first season, while the 7:30 slot is currently the fourth season. I don't want the fourth season/7:30 airings, but I also DETEST manual timers for a few reasons. Is there anyway to automatically make the Tivo only record the season 1 airing (And season 2, 3, etc when it naturally gets to those) without it recording the other airings, and without me having to manually go in and telling it to not record the airings I don't want?

fios quantum

I have a premiere xl with only two tuners. In my house we have the fios triple play with 1 DVR 4 STB and 1 cable card. I love my tivo with lots of storage but I could use more tuners. I could get Fios Quantum with 12 tuners, more storage, every room dvr features, keep my tivo get faster internet and it will only cost me $15. more per month. Is this too good to be true? Is the quantum service not all that is cracked up to be?

R.I.P. Aereo....What is next for them?

Well, that didn't take long. Looks like Aereo has officially shut down their operations. It was fun while it lasted. Oh well & I wonder if they will come back in some other form.

"NEW" tag vs. first aired date

My family and I love our Roamio. It's our first TiVO device. Years ago we had an UltimateTV but had been suffering for years with the cable box provided by our service (Frontier).

One thing I'm confused about is when / why the "NEW" tag appears next to a show. For many shows we record, episodes are regularly marked new that clearly are not. The most confusing thing is that the first aired date, which the Roamio consistently displays in the episode details, seems to contain the info needed to verify whether a show marked new is really new or not, but the Roamio unfortunately seems to ignore this information.

I'd love to know more about this and whether there are any rumored plans for the Roamio to start using this info when determining whether and episode is new.

Thanks.

Suits - Season 4 (spoilers)

I've come to the realization that every male character on this show is a jerk. Then they up the ante by casting a new male character (Jeff Malone) who sexually harasses Jessica every fifteen minutes. Pearson Spector's HR department must not have a mandatory workplace safety training video.

I think I'm getting to the point where I'll just ffwd through Louis' scenes. They're beyond silly and his "I eat c*cks for breakfast, lunch and dinner" statement to Malone was just an stupid excuse for this show to push the language barrier even further than it normally does.

Am I a Good Man?

We have a teaser trailer and, at last, a date, for the next chapter in the Doctor Who saga!

Peter Capaldi and co will launch on August 23rd.

Roamio, new unit, unusable due to reboots

I received my new Roamio unit yesterday and set it up last night. Upon powering it up, it got about half way through setup and I had to stop because I didn't have internet access.

This evening, I was able to get internet working after much frustration. I turned on the TV, set the HDMI switch to the TiVo and it was still on the screen asking me to select the internet connection type. So, no reboots up until this point.

I selected ethernet and continued with the setup. The Roamio wanted to do an update, so I let it do the update. After the update completed (I think?) it rebooted. I suppose this was OK, maybe it was planned, maybe not.

After rebooting, the unit made it to the mishmash startup video of the TiVo guy doin his thing stompin around and zapping stuff with lightning. And it rebooted. It got back to the mishmash video, and rebooted again. It got back to the mishmash, and I hit the TiVo button which brought it to some setup screen. Then it rebooted. Same thing, mishmash, TiVo button, setup screen. It has rebooted probably 10-20 times in the last 15 to 20 minutes.

Any chance of fixing it? Or should I just return it to Amazon? I can go down the street tomorrow and pick one up from Frys, at least I think they're in stock. Not 100% certain.

Is there a way to force the update? Can I pull the hard drive and format it without voiding warranty?

Separate question. I bought a 2 TB drive for a S3 a few years ago and then immediately switched to U-Verse. That drive was a WD drive and needed some special setup utility to be run on it so that it wouldn't spin down during startup. I never ran that utility. Can I put that drive in my TiVo and use it without running that utility?

First Aereo, now Dish Hopper

Left D*, Recover Recordings from HR21-700?

Hi, I just recently left D*, but they told me to send in only the access card, not the HR21-700. Is there any use for the HD DVR other than as a boat anchor? E.g., any way to recover the movies I have already recorded on the drive?

How to playback recorded shows

HELP Input Won't Come Up On Screen

TiVo Two. FINALLY hooked up. Worked when he left. Next day, didn't work -- only static on screen, so installer showed me the steps:

* Use TV remote to turn TV on (not yet programmed into TiVo remote)

* Push Input button

* Choose Input 2

* Push Guide

We tested it, worked fine. Shut TV with TV remote last night. Woke up, used TV remote to turn it on, had picture and sound. I changed channels -- with TV remote -- and that fu**ed it all up.

Guide didn't work nor did Input. I shut it off via TV remote, waited a minute, then turned it on. STATIC. No buttons worked. Input, Guide, Info, etc.

My guy won't be back until Monday and had today off. I really don't want to wait until Monday afternoon to watch TV (I'm in a nursing home and NEED the TV to work).

So, any ideas how I can get it to work? He came in Thursday, turned it on saw static, hit Input and all was fine. I feel I'm missing a step but have amnesia so that's my excuse (!).

Option to display other DVRs at top

This may be a bigger problem on the Roamio Pro than other DVRs, but having other available DVRs listed at the end of the My Shows list is a bit annoying. I know which DVR certain programs record on and would like to be able to just hit "right" once I'm on the My Shows list to get the list on the other DVR. As it is, I have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list, which is already several pages long (after having the 2 Pros for a month) and keeps getting longer. It would be soooo much easier if the other DVR were at the top of the list (as an option, at least).

Help! Is there any way at all to record

from a paused point? I know kmttg doesn't allow it anymore but is there a way around that? Either with kmttg or another program?

New CNBC Documentary on Amazon.com

Since there's no way to have a season pass for the CNBC documentaries, here is your alert! "Amazon Rising" starts Sunday and looks pretty good.

FIOS specific question

I want to set up my TiVo Mini in the back yard to project onto a screen. I have a question about the FIOS outdoor box.

If I split the coax coming out of that and send 1 back into the house as it is now and run the second into the backyard, would my mini get a signal to connect to the Roamio in the house via MOCA?

Thanks.

Can someone explain this code thing to me?

So, It's time to add lifetime service to my Roamio Plus, a mini, and I want to buy another mini with lifetime.

I checked out ebay to see if anyone had any deals and instead there are a million people selling "codes" for lifetime membership or something like that

I'm not sure what it is.

I've been with tivo since the beginning. never heard of this before.

is it something illegal? or technically legal, but tivo's not happy about it? is tivo supportive? what is it???

gif attachments

When I post a screen grab as an attachment, it comes in gif or png (because its graphics). But when Uploading it, it gets converted by the server script to .jpg. The result can look very fuzzy or bad.

Can this be reconfigured so gif's remain gif's? The usual explanation, that that feature does not exist, should not apply, since JPEG conversion, would be the extra future. Just need it to stop modifying all image types.

Sherri Shepherd, Jenny McCarthy out at 'The View'

Quote:

Sherri Shepherd will no longer be part of The View -- and Jenny McCarthy is leaving as well.

Scanning for Channels (OTA)

Whenever I scan for channels OTA I never get any more channels after about 50% but the 2nd 50% of the scan takes about 30-45 minutes to do.

If I hit "CLEAR to cancel" does that cancel the channels already scanned to that point or does it just cancel finding any channels in addition to those already found by the current scanning process?

I don't want to hit cancel and lose my currently new scanned channels I just want to stop wasting 45 minutes on not finding new channels.

Does anyone have any gems of wisdom regarding this action?

Taxi Brooklyn

OK, I admit I only watched around 2/3 of it last night.. (I will watch the rest.)

But it seems very strange to make a TV version of a 10 year old movie that most people *think* of as a big flop (but looking it up on imdb, I found a story about flops from 10 years ago, and it said it actually did halfways decent).. and they reversed the genders of the characters.

The actress who plays the main character, Chyler Leigh, is the main reason to watch the show. (She totally reminds me of Molly Ringwald, but when I really compare them, they don't look THAT much alike.) Looking through Chyler's previous roles, the only one I remember her from was "That 80s show", and even that took some old memory paging in!

html Remote

I have a few devices that can't run a Tivo remote, so I made a basic remote that runs from a cgi web server, and hopefully controllable by the average web browser.

I know ABCD keys should be added, though I'm unfamiliar with the new 'BACK' key. If someone tells me it's useful, I'll switch to that layout at the same time.

The codebase is really small and simple so anyone should be able to customize.

Requires:

Perl

webserver w/CGI

Tested on OS X and BSD

TODO:

Move to stand alone web server

Add ABCD keys

Host ID not changing??

Technicians out again today. Now they think the reason my TIVO is not working is because the HOST ID is not changing?? They said when they insert new cards in the TIVO that the host ID is supposed to change each time. However, it remains the same. They said they could put a million cards in there but if the host id is not changing then it will never work??? However, when another technician (a week ago) noticed the number was not changing the pairing person on the phone told him that it was not supposed to change. It would remain the same. Have any of you heard of that? Is that number supposed to change? I'm beginning to think they will never figure out what is going on. They will not listen to me when I mention the conditional access menu and how the values must look. Anyway, I need to know if there is a possibility that they are on to something. Or if we will end up looking for another solution.......

ETA: My problem now is that I only have some of my channels. I'm missing a whole tier. I had all the channels for one night. Then the next morning a ton of channels were missing. The values have never added up. They are Con: YES, VAL: ? Auth: and FWK (something like that) a

Tivo, Cable Cards, HD receivers and FCC law - help

I seem to remember reading somewhere that there is a FCC law which states that if a cable company makes certain channels available via cable cards, then it also has to make the same channels available via a receiver, for example.

If that's true, here's where I need clarification if someone knows more (or is better at searching) than I. Let's look at my cable company, Cox, for a second:

Cox has made SOME of their HD channels only available to devices capable of receiving at higher frequencies. Tivo Premieres and Roamios with cable cards CAN receive these channels.

Certain Cisco HD set-top receivers ALSO receive the higher frequency HD channels, whereas older, Motorola HD set-top boxes do not, as they max out around 856mhz.

Cox CSR's would tell you they CANNOT rent you a specific HD receiver capable of receiving the same channels you pay for and receive with your Tivo's cable cards, but instead HAVE to rent a WHOLE-HOME DVR system from them to receive those few, higher-frequency HD channels.

Something tells me the FCC would say this is bunk, for lack of a better word, and would instruct Cox (or any company) to make available equipment capable of receiving ALL the channels offered by said cable company (aka being able to rent a SINGLE, HD receiver).

True or false? If true, any idea what the name of the law is?

thanks - I'd really like to not have to sell all three Tivo's and suffer their whole-home system over a single drop location.

Downloading from Roamio to iPad fails

Greetings,

I recently replaced my Premiere XL4 with a Roamio Pro. I wanted to copy a bunch of recorded shows from the Roamio onto my iPad Mini Retina, and the behavior has been very flaky. Here's what I've seen.

I was at home, on my local Wi-Fi network with the iPad. The TiVo is connected to gigabit Ethernet. My router/WAP is the latest-generation Apple AirPort Extreme. AirPort and iPad are fully updated.

I chose about 10 shows to copy over. I chose "Best" quality for all of these. (Aside: why do I have to make this choice every time? I never want medium.)

The estimate was that it would take roughly 30 minutes for the first show to download, so I left the iPad awake and plugged in to power when I went to sleep.

When I got up the next morning, it had not downloaded a single show! There was a message saying that the TiVo (not the iPad) had lost connection to the Internet. Who cares about the Internet? This was a copy over the LAN. It had made progress on one show, but had apparently bailed due to the connection problem.

I quit the iPad app (dragged it out of the app switching view to force a true restart), then resumed the downloads. I left for work. Again, the iPad was plugged in to power and awake.

Got home, and a couple of shows had downloaded, but it had failed again. Two shows were marked as having failed, and I guess at that point it gave up, and the iPad went to sleep.

Upon waking the app up again, I noticed that the remote control icon at the top of the screen was greyed out, the way it would be if you were outside of your house and therefore unable to control the TiVo's on-screen display. I force-quit and relaunched the app, and this time the remote showed up as active again.

I resumed the downloads once again.

Some time later, I came back to find the iPad asleep again. All but two of the downloads had finished, but it was again showing the crossed-out remote as though it thought it was not at my house.

So, I did the force-quit dance again, and the remaining shows downloaded.

This is a really crappy experience. With my Premiere and the separate Stream box, I did similar downloads to the iPad on several occasions, and it was always reliable. I searched the forums and found a few reports of problems with the Roamio in this regard, but they seem isolated.

Have others had this problem? Were you able to find a solution? Why does the iPad app keep thinking that it is not on my LAN, and disabling the controls? The iPad was only about 15 feet from the access point with strong signal, etc...

Thanks!

Tyrant Season 1 Thread!!!

Watched this last night. looks interesting. Was a good setup for rest of the season. Some parts over the top and absurd but enjoyed the first episode.

True network connection speeds

Trying to get the specifications of the negotiated speeds of the Roamio (basic) and mini. I've seen that the mini has only a 10/100 (i.e. fast Ethernet) connection. I've not seen anything on the Roamio.

I have CAT6 and CAT5E cabling and connections, and I have networking tools to actually test data rates to certify the lines. I presently don't have enough Gigabit ports to connect everything on gigabit, but am considering a 24-port gigabit switch. Every room is hard wired with several drops where needed. My main stereo cabinet is the only exception, where I have a single drop and use a switch to connect my Denon receiver, my TiVo Roamio, my Dish Network receiver (soon to go away), and my PS3. More ports (i.e. 24-port switch upgrade), and I'll run a few more drops behind the cabinet.

BASICALLY...does the Roamio Ethernet jack support gigabit?

If the answer is no, then my gigabit is basically just better at sharing bandwidth, but not worth doing further upgrades.

Accessing videos on another device-ReadyNAS?

So I've got a lot of videos, etc stored on a ReadyNAS. I can view/watch/stream/whatever just fine with my Tivo Premier XL units

But the Tivo Mini apparently doesn't support this?

Is there any other option to get to watch these on a mini or am I stuck having to only use the one DVR (or transfer to the DVR and then to the mini)?

Does the mini support DLNA or whatever?

TiVo Premiere 4 blocked at 80% of HDD

A month ago my Premiere 4 (500GB hdd) stopped keeping recordings for more than 24 hrs. beyond approx. 80% of hdd capacity. Free Disk Space indicates 130 SD hrs. remaining. I've eliminated all but one HD Season Pass--for an actor. No automatically deleted program appears in Recently Deleted--which is blank. Just over 2 mos. ago the hdd was to 94%--w/o any other issue other than being effectively full. TiVo Support has told me a software patch is forthcoming--no time given.

RF remoted does not react to key presses

I just a Tivo Rroamio last week I had set it up my bedroom for the time being. I set it up to be used with rf control. I moved it to my living today it final resting place. Tonight I go and start watching some recorded programs. The remote keys does not respond all the time when pressed. What could be the problem? Can the rf frequency be changed?

MoCA connection - please help, about to cancel Tivo...

I've been a Tivo subscriber for about 10yrs. I've had an absolute nightmare of a time over the past week and I'm on the verge of cancelling Tivo tomorrow and switching over to Verizon FIOS DVR's with multi room streaming.

Some background:

My series 2 DVR started acting up, so we got a 4-tuner Roamio directly from Tivo. At the same time we also purchased a Tivo mini to take advantage of the Roamio's 4 tuners and stream recordings/tv to our bedroom TV which was previously on a FIOS set top box.

We received the Roamio and Mini from Tivo last week. I swapped the Series 2 for the Roamio and no issues there. It is working, connected to the internet (via ethernet), etc.

The Mini, however, we cannot get working. When trying to establish the MoCA connection via guided setup we receive error (C33) "The Tivo box could not connect to the MoCA network". I have no idea if this means the Mini or the Roamio.

I've done (3) online chats with Tivo Support, (2) phone calls with Tivo Support and even a phone call with Verizon. At this point I've spent close to 20 excruciating hours trying to resolve my issue. I've been told by Tivo Support that I needed to purchase a MoCA Adapter (unclear why as FIOS is MoCA enabled) which I've done so. Since then I've been told I need to connect the adapter to the Mini (not sure why- MoCA supported natively), been told I need to connect it to my router to create a MoCA loop (again, unclear why) and also told to connect it before or after my cable splitter.

I've created the following diagram to illustrate the setup in my home. Can someone PLEASE help?

- I have Verizon FIOS fiber to the home

- All Verizon equipment is in my basement (ONT)

- From Verizon ONT, I have a single COAX (MoCA) cable to 3 way splitter

- From splitter I have a coax cable to my router and then 2 coax connections to each TV (Roamio in one room and Mini in another)

- From my router to my Roamio I have an ethernet cable connection for internet access

- I do not have ethernet available in the room with the Mini

Do I need a MoCA adapter? If so, where? If not, what is my issue?

TiVo Promo Codes

I just wanted to thank everyone for their support on here. I appreciate that this forum is not intended for commercial gain, but I hope the codes have saved some of you a good amount.

While eBay has been a great way to offer the codes, it has meant I have had little control over detail - some of you have often asked what a "TiVo Buying Service" is and how it works to name just one example.

As a result I have put together a separate website where codes can be ordered directly

http://spherular.com

I have done very little testing so expect some bugs, but assuming I continue to have your support, I'll work on improving it over the coming weeks. Right now you can initiate everything on line and I will manually fulfill each order.

In an effort to give something back I've created a TiVo Community Forum Code that entitles anyone from this site to $10 off any price listed.

The code is COMMUNITY (it is case sensitive)

Cable has been cancelled

And this is exactly the reason I went with the premiere - in case this day ever came.

I was forced into dropping cable for financial reasons, but based on my tv viewing habits I doubt very much that I will miss it.

Between my season passes, wish lists, netflix and potentially in the future hulu plus I am feeling quite set.

At some point in the future I may add itunes season passes to the mix, but for the time being this is going to work. Would love to hear from other non-sport watching cord cutters and how your experiences have been.

TiVo OnDemand button works for Xfinity

Just wanted to let every know that I got one of those older Charter based Premiere remotes that has a big blue "OnDemand" button on it. Dog ate the old one and I needed to replace it so I figured this was worth a shot to get it and see if it would control my Comcast Xfinity OnDemand page. No real loss if the OnDemand button didn't work cause it would then essentially be like my old Premiere remote.

Anyway, I got it today and tried it and sure enough, it takes me directly to the main Xfinity OnDemand area where it list all the categories. No sifting through the main menus on the home screen. Here is basically a picture of the remote I got:

TV Remote Is Working??

After six weeks of waiting, I'm set up. But, the volume button does nothing on the remote. Is there something to do to make that work, and avoid two remotes?

Setting up Tivo Mini without Coax/Ethernet Wall Access

The room I need to use the mini in does not have either a coax cable nor an ethernet wall jack. Are there other options in setting up the Mini using a wireless ethernet adapter or some other option that you have found successful?

Much Thanks,

Mike

just watched /Scorpion preview on Roamio

My Roamio was offering previews and voting for upcoming new series on ABC, CBS, CW, and NBC, so I watched them.

The /Scorpion preview was HORRIBLE. The jeopardy was the same as that Die Hard movie ( # 2? ) where the planes couldn't land due to air traffic control, only this one was even more lame than the movie. CBS really should have picked a better episode for the preview and vote poll.

S2DT Died. Can I get a service refund?

One of my three TiVo boxes, an S2DT (80 hr) just died. I have it on an annual service plan, and do not plan to repair or replace it.

Is there any chance of getting a pro-rated refund of the service charges for the remaining months of the year?

Thanks.

XL4 transfers to Desktop Plus truncated

I have a Premiere XL4 and transfer the Tivo files to a couple of WinXP machines. I have had the Tivo a little more than3 weeks. Yesterday for the first time a recording wouldn't completely transfer, 5+GB on the Tivo but 990MB arriving on the machines. I deleted the program and scheduled to record it again when it re-airs in a few days.

Tonight I'm trying to determine if one of the tuners was giving me more AC-timing errors than the others. Four programs were scheduled for tonight. I altered the start and end times so as to be able to differentiate which tuner was recording which. The first hour show was the only show being recorded. Fifteen minutes into the show, while I was watching Live TV, the XL4 lost connectivity - the cable company feed died apparently for about a minute. Later when I started to download the 4 shows I recorded to one of the machines, the 5+GB file quit at 831MB. Okay, I know now what causes that and will delete and try to reschedule. I was lucky in that I wasn't watching a previously recorded show or I would have missed it.

Problem is when a program isn't going to be repeated allowing me to re-record. Is there a way to transfer the damaged Tivo file to another machine?

Also I saw in one of the other posts on this kind of problem, mention of transferring the files as .ts rather than as .TIVO extension. How is this done? Thanks.

TiVo Roaminio

What would cause a VAL ? with a TV Roamino 4 stream. I am with Charter in St. Louis. I am on my 2nd cablecard and i have a tuning adapter. Ive been on the phone most of the day with charter.

video looks bad on HD tv (pytivo)

I snagged some movies (mp4) that are supposedly high def. They look great on the PC.

Pulled them to the HD tivo using pytivo. On the HD tv they look very choppy; unwatchable. On the much smaller non-HD tv they look fine (with S2 tivo). File size is about 800mb per hour.

I have other videos that were rips of standard dvds (i ripped them), they always looked fine on the HD tv. File size about 400 mb/hour.

Ideas?

Roamio Plus And Easy Mac Download

Hey Guys I travel A lot for work and would rather carry my new Macbook Air to watch my TV shows on the fly.

Please let me know the easiest way to do so?

I would like to watch in HD if possible :) then delete after i watch the shows.

Anyway to download while away from my home network?

From what i gathered Ctivo would be the easiest way to do this. What format would you suggest for macbook viewing only?

I know the iPad app does this but i don't want to carry more then one device as i need the laptop for work.

Sorry for the questions but appreciate your responses..

Regards.

Please help! Need Tivo CEO address or similar.

Hello, I've been a member for a few years now but have rarely posted. Mostly, I read troubleshooting help here before contacting TiVo directly. It's been an invaluable asset to me over the years.

Today, I seek your help in asking for a direct mailing address to the TiVo CEO or someone else within that hierarchy who can help me with an unresolved issue.

Briefly, here is my problem: Last June I upgraded my Premiere XL to the Premiere XL4. At the time, for some reason I discussed the new activation with a customer rep via chat. I wanted to cancel the service for the old machine and they told me I couldn't until I called directly. This is what I was told today. If they told me this then I completely forgot.

Regardless, I was charged for 12 months of service for a device I no longer used and of which TiVo was fully aware of (they don't dispute this). I asked to speak to a supervisor after the original customer rep wouldn't refund those charges. He offered to give me a 3 month partial refund but I refused it because it doesn't come close to the $150 they took form me.

If the bottom tier of support won't help me, then I wish to escalate this to the highest authority I possibly can.

Before hanging up, I asked the supervisor why online activations are allowed but cancellations are not. He wouldn't answer directly. If this had been possible then I wouldn't be in the fix I am today. Moreover, I also told him I would be cancelling my current subscription as soon as my cable company installs their dvr. They lost me as a customer for life and I will also let family and friends know how I was treated regarding this matter.

I loved the TiVo service and bought a device because I knew it was the best out there. Sadly, my relationship with them will end after just 5 years. I am only 26 years old and they could've had me for life if they chose to address this concern to my ultimate satisfaction.

Any help you can provide will be most appreciated. Thank you!

Check your monthly bill - make sure it didn't go up for no reason!

This month I noticed the auto-payment for my Tivo box (an HD XL) that is part of the multi-service discount on a month-to-month basis had been charged at $12.95 instead of the typical $6.95.

I called Tivo Customer Service and told them about this. The saw the charge but could not explain what happened. The CSR said they made a change and it would not happen again next month. I then had to ask about the overcharge for the current month. Only after I asked about it, did the CSR offer to refund the overage.

Both things have happened as the CSR said they would, but I still can't explain why it went up to $12.95 out of no where.

Anyway, I just wanted to post this so that you folks with a multi-service discount may want to keep an eye on Tivo charges and make sure this doesn't happen to you!

Cisco cablecard Copy Protection information screen Question

Roamio Pro Comcast Cisco CC

I've been getting random "Channel Not Authorized" from random tuners. TiVo support says that the CC is 'partially' paired. Comcast has unpaired re-paired and refreshed & re-authorized

Also the signal was at 100& w/ 42db. Unplugging the Comcast drop amp in the attic & daisy chaining splitters. & got the db into the recommended range.

TiVo support tells me that on the Cisco cablecard copy protection information screen 2nd column (see image) needs to have values between 0x0 and 0x7 inclusive. The values are still out of range, but not as excessively as before.

I would like to know what this column actually means and if getting another CC (the 3rd in the last 6 weeks) would help.

No thread yet? This show has taken some REALLY strange turns the last two seasons. Lexi is now already grown up and is a "guru" preaching piece. Need Advice From Stream Users

I have Time Warner internet (15mbps Download) (1.09 Upload) Is that enough bandwidth to stream live shows to my iPad from the TIVO STREAM around my apartment? And what would the quality be like? How long to transfer a hour long show? Before I buy a stream I need to know what some other users with this internet speed experience. Thanks.

Hey guys, this is what I have going on. I am getting all my recordings that I have set in the to do list. Every so often, I will see multiple circles lit up on the front of the Pro. I hit the info button and it will show multiple recordings in progress even though I didn't schedule them. They aren't in the to do list though and also not in the my shows list. Its like this stuff is being shown recorded but its not really recording. Thoughts anyone??

Time-Warner new lineup in NYC

I have a Tivo Series 3 HD with a TWC (New York City) cablecard. Now I find that since their new channel lineup as of a week ago, which clobbered the much-used HD channels, non-premium network channels (now among channels 1-100) that used to have HD counterparts are not appearing in HD as promised. Yes, the image is 16:9 instead of 4:3, but the picture quality is unmistakably SD. Widescreen SD is not the same as HD! And PBS (channel 13) isn't even widescreen -- for PBS I have to adjust the aspect to get a properly proportioned 4:3 image. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something I should do?

Clone one Premiere HDD to another Premiere?

Are all "TiVo Premiere" (no suffix) units the same? My two Premieres are described in my TiVo account as 746-0001-xxxx-xxxx.

Premiere #1 has died with the repeated GSOD. TiVo support suggested I disconnect everything except the HDMI cable, and that didn't help anything. The whining noise leads me to suspect that the HDD has died.

I have a new 2 TB HDD in shipment right now, but it's bare, and I just realized I may not be able to copy anything off the dying/dead HDD.

Is my other Premiere the same model? Can I extract the HDD from Premiere #2, copy it to the bare HDD, and insert back into Premiere #1 for happiness and joy?

Thanks!

Should I keep the box?

I have a TiVo Premiere 4 that is about 2 years old now with lifetime service. I've been hanging onto the box and packing materials with the idea that I may sell it one day and that it would bring more money with the original box.

Flash forward to today and my wife it wanting it moved out of the spare bedroom that we are turning into a nursery. So the question becomes do I find another place to stash this box or toss it? What do you guys think?

Roamio pro streamming stops

I just got my new Roamio pro tivo about 2 weeks ago. I was using a Tivo XL4. I transferred all of the non copy protected shows to the Roamio. I have been streaming programs form the the XL4 but having problems. It will stop saying that it has lost the connection and stops there. I have to go back and restart the connection again. What could be the problem?

HD Rebooting/Freezing Caused by Cable Signal or Cable Card?

Is a strong FIOS signal or cable card able to cause random rebooting and freezing?

After my HD started freezing and rebooting on a regular but random basis about a month ago, I replaced with hard drive and power supply with new units from Weaknees. The bad news is that the rebooting/freezing has not stopped. Weakness tech support had me unplug the cable line for an extended period to see if any reboots occurred.

There were no reboots during the 20 hours I had the cable line disconnected, and one occurred within two hours or reconnecting the cable. I have FIOS with the 100% signal strength, so I supposed I could try the attenuator fix, but I thought that was cleared up with by the software. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this other than disconnecting the cable line? (This is a follow-up to a post I placed in the wrong forum)

New Romaio, not sure how to do OTA now...

I was expecting something similar to my Series 3. But instead I see one input for cable / OTA. So how do I do both...?

if you have a SP for "Under The Dome", it doesn't pick up tonight's recap special "Under The Dome: Inside Chester's Mill"

Anyone still using stand alone TiVos with Directv or Dish?

I have a Genie and two HR-21s but I also have a Series 2 single tuner alive and kicking for use with the TTG features. Anyone still running all S2 or a hybrid like mine?

Upgraded HD in Tivo HD back in the S03 error loop. HELP!

Hi guys -

I purchased two Seagate ST3500414CS to replace the stock HDs in my Tivo HDs that were having S03 errors loading the lineup updates. One of the harddrives was DOA, but the other one seemed to work well for a week or so. Now two weeks later, the working one is back getting the S03 error.

Is the other Seagate probably bad as well? Or is there something else going on? We have our Tivos & TAs on outlet timers so they shutdown at night. Could that be contributing to the issues?

On another subject, are there other (more modern) 1 TB hard drives that I could try for the Tivo HD? Preferably something that is eligible for Amazon Prime?

Thanks in advance!

Rising Star - Season One

This was a tough show to sit through.

You can't DVR it and participate, so you have to watch it live if you want to be part of the voting process.

10 acts in 2 hours is just too much. And no one really stood out as a WOW.

The wall serves no real purpose. We can still see them, and they still interact with the judges afterwards. They might as well just have a tote board there with the percentages.

I think it would be better if they just walked in and started singing. Kind of like The Voice. Only we don’t get to see them either so we are judging them purely on sound. So many people get votes based on their location or back-story.

True Blood S07E01 "Jesus Gonna Be Here" ** SPOILERS **

I thought this was a decent start to the season, disappointed in the lack of Eric though.

It seems like no one in Bon Temps wears underwear :p

American Ninja vs Japanese Ninja Warriors last January

I totally missed this when it originally aired and caught it over the weekend. The show was great but I felt like we were putting our current American Ninjas up against "former" Japanese Ninjas. I thought I read somewhere that the Japanese Ninja warrior is no longer done.

So since there was nothing to train for in Japan, maybe the Japanese guys were not as ready as they should have been. If that's the case, I hope the Japanese Ninjas will now train all year like they used to and come back next year and make a real challenge out of it.

The Last Ship "Pilot: Phase Six" 6/22/14

This was like a good summer blockbuster thriller.

The only mis-step was not making it a 2-hour premiere (well and maybe Rhona Mitra)...

Eric Dane? Who knew McSteamy would be so good?

I'm in.

Another question about mini!

One other question I had about the mini was when the mini streams from the tivo romio on the home network does it use any internet? or is it just point to point streaming?

Transferring Recordings from HD DVR to Roamio

Tomorrow I get my new Roamio Basic. I already have an HD DVR and I want to transfer recorded shows from the HD DVR to the Roamio.

I only have one Ethernet cable long enough to run to my Tivo so I can't hook both my HD DVR and Roamio to the Internet from my TV stand.

I only have one Ethernet cable going to my TV so I’ll have to plug in my HD DVR to a power outlet and Ethernet connection and place it under my computer.

I’ll use the Ethernet cable from my router to my new Roamio sitting under the TV.

So here’s the picture:

1. New Roamio hooked up to TV and Tivo Ethernet service and OTA antenna.

2. Old HD DVR plugged into power outlet and a spare Ethernet port on my router and placed away from my TV and under my computer desk.

Can I transfer all my recordings from my HD DVR to my new Roamio through the Roamio menu?

I hope I’ve done an adequate explanation of my dilemma.

Why isn't streaming built-in for Standard-OTA Roamio?

Any future plans to include streaming with OTA Roamio?

I have an OTA-Roamio (standard) and love it - and now looking to buy another, but not the mini (why not have extra storage for a little more money). I'm also interested in streaming to my iphone, but not something I would need too often so don't want the extra hardware. I'll wait a little longer if there are plans to integrate streaming with OTA-Roamio.

Defective Cablecards

I just wanted to relate my experience here and am asking others to chime in as well. Purchased a new Pro, and wanted to set up the cablecards myself. No problem, except that I went through 3 cards before I got a good one from TWC. The guys at TWC's cablecard hotline are fantastic and were a great help, knowledgeable and very professional. Im just wondering how many others out there have similar issues before finally getting a good card.

Tivo Series 2 and Rogers Cable Toronto - help

after searching, there don't seem to be too many entries regarding Rogers Cable services and TiVo in the last couple of years.....so....

I have a working, Series 2 with Lifetime that I'd like to give to a relative in Toronto. Their cable tv supplier is Rogers Cable.

Does anyone know if Rogers STILL supplies a useful, analog signal on baseband cable that the Series 2 can still grab listings from and hence, be used like a TiVo was intended with "out-of-the-wall" cable as it was designed?

OR - have Rogers gone the route of many companies, i.e. all-digital out of the wall, and into a switched-digital box?

thanks

Streaming from Roamio Plus to Mini solved!

I haven't posted before about my trials and tribulations in getting streaming to work from our new Roamio Plus to our new Mini, but the tech support interactions followed a lot of the same patterns others here have observed:

- insistence that my network switch was somehow responsible for the problems (which I strongly suspected was bogus)

- advice that I should use MoCa instead of my house's wired Ethernet (didn't work)

- ignoring my observation that my iPad app complained that the Roamio wasn't set up for streaming, claiming it was unrelated

- insistence that I had to connect the Roamio and Mini directly to the wireless router (didn't help)

- advice to disable and re-enable streaming on the device via TiVo.com (no effect)

Bottom line: the real problem was that my Roamio was missing some module/plugin of streaming software.

They had no explanation for why this was the case.

They set up an "upload authorization" (for some reason this didn't happen automatically), the TiVo picked up the update on the next service connection, and everything then worked fine for streaming to both the Mini and iPad.

MOCA Problem

I just bought a Roamio Pro and want to enable MOCA so I can use a mini in my bedroom. I have a ARRIS TG6862G/CT router from Comcast. I have split my coaxial cable with a RadioShack splitter that can accommodate up to 3 ghz. The coaxial cables from the wall go into my Roamio and my router and an Ethernet cord connects my Roamio to the router.

When I try to change network connections to enable MOCA I get Error C33. It says "There is a problem with your network settings. The DVR was unable to connect to your MoCA network."

Does anyone have any suggestions for someone with modest technological abilities but great love of Tivo?

Thank you!

Funniest Wins on TBS

Buried on Friday nights on TBS, "Funniest Wins" is a new reality comedy competition show. It reminds me of the original season of Last Comic Standing, back in the day when they had challenges and not just a series of stand-up routines. I like the host, Marlon Wayans, and his guest judges look like an interesting assortment to come.

The first episode aired this past Friday. They had a stand-up challenge on the top of a double-decker bus for random passengers -- which Last Comic Standing also did their first season -- and the edit made it clear who was bombing, but I think their full routines were trimmed for the show. The second challenge paired the comics up to make "digital video shorts" from scratch in less than a day, including edit time. (They were given staff videographers and editors, which does level the playing field.) The candid reality clips of them during the working process had some lines which were more naturally funny than their staged skits.

The judging was fair and their comments were constructive and insightful. Comedy is subjective, but they have a studio audience to help determine the winners and losers. Overall, I agree with the way they ranked the contestants this week -- unlike Last Comic Standing where I yell at the fools for the assortment chosen in the semi-finals.

Dumb question about blue LED

Should the blue LED go on when I'm using the iOS app to transfer a video from the Roamio to an iphone or iPad? It doesn't currently. I'm not sure if it's supposed to or not.

Tivo Newbie in need of help

Hello and thank you in advance:

I am paying Charter Cable $40/month for DVR and set top box fees and I am more than ready to make the switch to Tivo!

My plan is to get the Tivo Roamio Plus and 2 Minis

I have 3 TVs, but truly only need the Tivo/DVR feature on one TV. I am getting the impression that I would need either a Tivo Mini OR a Cable Set top box for the other TVs to have cable service-is this correct? The cable boxes are $6.99/month so I would rather save money in the long run and get the minis even though I dont necessarily need the DVR capability.

Also, just to clarify: Only one cable card in the TV Roamio Plus should service the 2 minis as well, correct? I just need to be as clear and concise as possible with cable services reps ;)

Thank you all! I am NOT technologically savvy and this forum has already been a huge help.

Almost Royal (spoilers)

Is anybody else watching the new BBC America comedy Almost Royal? It's really silly but the two episodes I watched (Los Angeles and Boston) made me chuckle a few times.

MOCA for mini problem!

so I never got this solved but I was setting up my Tivo romio and mini so that they work on the MOCA network but the mini could never get the MOCA network.

Her is how I tried it:

MOCA adapter 1-> router

MOCA adapter 2-> Tivo Romio basic DVR

Tivo mini to wall connection

Both tivos were on the same splitter and were being fed cable signal so whats wrong and why wont the tivo mini connect?

Xfinity Ondemand question?

I was wondering and hope someone knows, does Xfinity On-demand on tivo use the internet for content or does it pull all the stuff from the same place Comcast's STB's get it from and use a tuner to do that??

dual outputs at the same time on the pro and plus?

I saw that the minis were having issues with this, but that the Premieres were good? I want the same video to come out of both the HDMI port and the component connectors so I can sent it to two TV sets at the same time. Have we gone through this with the Roamios?

Orphan Black 6/21/14 “By Means Which Have Never Yet Been Tried”

Kira seems to have picked up a trick or two from Mom...

So what does Mrs. S want with a car bomb?

Art & Helena. Man, Art always seems to be half of an odd couple.

Mrs. S. & Cal.

Paul & Mrs. S.

Cal & Paul.

Rachel and Duncan (R.I.P.).

Lots of weird hook-ups this week.

“You won science.” But of course in Cosima’s hands, science is a weapon.

Rachel Rachel Rachel, Haven’t you ever learned the dangers of monologuing and taunting? There’s a little book called the Evil Overlord’s Guide you should read. With your good eye.

Is this the first clone foursome? Pretty sure they’ve only done threesomes before... That dance scene had to be technological hell! Amusing but to be expected how the clones all dance in character. And in the bed scene, yet again, it’s hard to remember there’s only one person there.

Of course, with all this touching sweetness going on you just know something really, really bad has to happen. (If they kill Cosima, I’ll never forgive them. Well, I probably will, but I won’t admit it.)

Finally a clone that Tatiana doesn’t have to play.

Boy clones! I wonder if he has half the chops she does?

Well, they certainly have shaken things up for the off-season. Again. Sigh...losing Game of Thrones and Orphan Black within a week.

Problem with Romio and TV Volume

Tivo is a Roamio Pro and the remote works TV volume fine within about a maximum range of 12 feet. Outside that range, I can see the Tivo box is receiving the signal ( orange light on front of box lights up), but the TV volume is unaffected. I previously had a Premier and the remote controlled the TV volume just fine up to 20 feet or so. Any suggestions?

Crossbones San Francisco area

This show started 15 minutes early again. I have no idea why since there was no game last night

Noisy fan on Premiere

I had a high-pitched whine, low but audible. Since it was under 30 days TiVo HQ replaced it with a new one, Guess what same fan noise.

This is particularly annoying to me as I am an audiophile with a Marantz, Denon, Bose system and listen to CDs. The noise is ever present even when TV is off as Premiere is always on.

I plan to request another replacement today. Is this an endemic problem with all Premieres and should I switch to another model?

Tivo not recognizing added size of new HDD

I posted in this in the Help forum before I remembered about this one so please forgive the duplicate post.

I just upgraded my dad's stock drive in his Tivo HD to a 2TB WD Green drive. I used winmfs to copy the stock drive to the new drive which worked fine. However, the Tivo is only showing available capacity of 21 HD hours (the capacity of the stock drive). It was suggested that I missed the Supersize command in winmfs but I'm pretty sure I did that and I don't see how that would result in only seeing the drive as a 160 GB drive rather than a 2TB drive. Any ideas?

Tivo not recognizing addes size of new HDD

I just upgraded my dad's Tivo HD to a 2TB WD Green drive. I used winmfs to copy the stock drive to the new drive. When I installed the new HDD, Tivo is only showing the recording capacity to be that of the stock drive of 21 HD hours when it should be over 300 HD hours. Did I miss a step? Any ideas?

Managing recordings via remote stream?

I have a premiere today and an thinking about getting a second one. I can download from my TiVo hd to my premiere, but from premiere to premiere I have heard I can stream. Can I also delete remote recordings after I stream them?

Continuum "The Dying Minutes" 6/20/2014

That seemed more like a season ending episode. I was surprised that my to-do list showed an episode scheduled for next week.

Sonya's dead. Dillon should be dead but I wonder if that was him being wheeled out on a stretcher with an oxygen mask on. Curtis killed the living crap out of Catherine. Time travel Alec and his gf (who I had totally forgotten about) heading "up north". Betty died a couple of episodes ago. The last few episodes disposed of some important characters.

Looks like masked Freelancer 1.0 guy will be the big bad from now on.

Recovery from Recently Deleted folder changed recording title/description

Today someone in my house accidentally deleted the infamous THX Optimizer recording:

http://ift.tt/ThbcJ7

This person happens to be used to DVRs and STBs where Clear/Exit means clear/exit the menu to display full screen video, not delete the current menu selection if a recording is highlighted, hence the very easy one touch mistake.

Anyway, I immediately went to recover the recording from the Recently Deleted folder. I found it there, still properly titled "THX Optimizer", selected it, and recovered it. However, when I went back to the My Shows folder I was surprised to not see THX Optimizer listed. Come to find out, it was retitled “Rec: 2:00pm” and had lost the description text as well (“Description not available.” string).

The recording still played just fine. I tired deleting and recovering it again, but the mysterious metadata change remained. I deleted and recovered another, regular show, but was not able to reproduce the bug.

Has anyone else seen this bug with a recovered recording, THX Optimizer or otherwise?

Is there any way to directly edit the title and other metadata for recordings on the TiVo? Keep in mind the THX Optimizer can’t be transferred, so getting it to a computer to edit the metadata isn’t an option, nor is copying it from another TiVo that still has the recording with the correct metadata. Of all the recordings to experience this bug it had to be this one.

Roamio Basic and Vizio Soundbar

I have a Vizio HDTV that controls the volume of my Vizio sound bar. Works good.

In order to turn on the sound bar with the TV I had to use my learning remote and sound bar remote and marry them.

Now my learning remote will turn on my TV and sound bar. It will also turn both off. Works good.

Monday I will be receiving my new Roamio Basic and I'll want to use the Roamio RF remote for my TV, DVR and sound bar.

I've found instructions for using the Roamio RF remote to program it to turn on and off my TV so I can use the RF and IR features of the remote.

My question/issue is: How do I use my new Roamio RF/IR remote to also turn on my sound bar???

I hope my question is not redundant but I searched the Internet and could not find an easy to understand answer.

If the Roamio RF/IR remote has the learning feature I can marry my sound bar and remote the same way I did with my Glo Backlight remote.

Thanks.

Tivo Mini Stuttering Issues

We have a Roamio Pro and 4 Minis although only 3 are hooked up and live. We also have 2 Premiere XLs. I have nothing hooked via MoCa, all hooked via cat6 cables. The Roamio Pro and minis are all on 1 L2 gigabit switch (DLINK DGS 200 series). For some reason when watching live tv on the minis we are getting stuttering on most channels, especially HD channels. When switching to a channel, the channel will tune in fine for a few seconds but then after a bit it will start stuttering. The connection will not get lost, it just keeps stuttering along with audio and video cutting/jumping. This happens on all of the minis.

Looking at bandwidth and speed checks and everything looks fine, not even close to straining the network. Actually everything is super fast. I have checked all involved ports and they auto-negotiate fine, everything looks good in switch UI. Is there some way the switch may be truncating or screwing up the packets sent for the live tv stream? I have turned off every managed feature on the switch to make it totally "passive" and the minis still have stuttered feed.

Been troubleshooting the settings of this switch as well as others in my network for a bit now and one other thing I am wondering if anyone knows, do the Tivo Minis communicate with the Roamio directly for streaming live tv? Or do they pass all traffic through the main network router? I am not a networking expert more of a hobbyist so I am not sure but I assume they would transmit directly through the switch to the other device.

I have been trying to hook up non-green/managed switch because with a green switch (DGS1024D) hooked up to the Roamio Pro+Minis the live tv would drop totally once in while (i.e. when someone went to bed and turned on that tv after it had not been on all day would have to power cycle switch to get it back).

I am tempted to just go MoCa on the Roamio Pro and see if that works but I really want to figure out why the ethernet method is not working.
