TWC and TiVo

So, after numerous years of losing channels to SDV without a subsequent drop in our bill we made the decision to drop cable and just subscribe to streaming services.

We did try the Tuning Adapter when it first came out, however it needed to be constantly restarted, the TiVo's wouldn't record suggestions, and most if not all transfers via MRV were blocked. MRV is such a big part of our TiVo experience my wife took to saying "whats the point of TiVo without MRV". Really. It doesn't matter that TiVo does other things. Those things only interest me.

Easter week I bought a new cable modem in preparation for the cutting. I had 20 down, 2 up or in the TWC vernacular, Turbo. After the modem change I noticed out speeds had dropped, the kids were now complaining about bandwidth, and some services were intermittently not working. Netflix for one. I thought it was a mistake.

So when I called to cancel cable I found out I had indeed been downgraded without notification of any kind or a decrease in my cable bill. Naturally there was no record of any of this. Just my word against theirs.

That lady fought with me, politely, for 45 minutes. Then told me that the 30 down five up service advertised on the web site for 54.99 was for new customers only.

Didn't see that anywhere, but when I balked she offered Cable starter plus that 30 down for just 7 dollars more than the advertised rate. I capitulated and agreed. I'm now waiting on a truck roll to change "something" on the pole...right.

More later
