The hard drive on my TiVo Series 2 Model # TCD240080 (Single Tuner - 80 hour) died. I am fairly certain of this because when I tried to reboot it, I got the "Powering Up" screen and it just kept clicking away. Not bad for a 13 year old TiVo!
Since I have lifetime on this unit and would like to use it as a backup, I found 2 identical models on Craigslist for $30. I would like to attempt to replace the broken hard drive with one of the working ones.
Can I just open the units and swap them out, or are there more steps that need to be taken?
I would love some guidance and/or direction to try a hard drive swap for the first time ever. Just point me in the right direction.
(FYI: The guy was selling both as a package deal, so I figured for $30, if I mess up my initial effort, I can try again with the second hard drive!)
