SOAK: Series 1 TiVo with new TV

I put my 88 year old dad in a nursing home yesterday. He has used a series 2 Hughes brand DirecTiVo for several years can pretty much work the remote.
He has xfinity basic cable package in his room. Is there any way to hook up an old Philips series 1 to his new TV?
Tech support at TiVo said I will need a cable box, digital converter & IR cable. I went to Best Buy & the 'expert' said thatwouldn't work.
Right now I set us his TiVo remote to control his TV but he likes his Season Passes because he likes some shows but usually misses them by falling asleep.
I knew that I needed to come here & ask.

Can I "reset" the progress bars in the Tivo Menu?

After you watch a show there is a blue "progress bar" next to the title letting you know if you stopped watching in the middle or finished at the end. Is there any way to reset that bar either individually, at the folder level, or on the whole machine (folder level would be the most preferred).

My son uses it to know if he's watched an episode or not. But once he watches them all what do we do?

Tivo Premier showing wrong information, show won't play

Our Tivo Premier has started to act bizarre. When we record a show *sometimes* it gives the correct information, other times it will not. For instance in the picture below it says we recorded Survivor, but it is showing the information for Star Wars Rebels. If I go into the show, it give me details for a different show, not the show I tried to record. If I try to play the show, I get an error.

However, the data *does* exist. If I transfer the show off my Tivo and on to my computer, I can play the show on my computer. And when transferred to my computer it gives the correct information about the show, not the incorrect information.

What is causing this and how do I fix it?

Switching cable providers - worried

I am looking for a new residence and the area I am contemplating does not have Comcast, but it appears that Charter Spectrum is available. After doing some reading it sounds like I will need a Tuning Adapter. It was somewhat tricky getting the Comcast pairing to work; should I be worried about getting Charter working when the time comes? Charter does not appear to be very TiVo-friendly, going by their website.

I do not want to give up my Roamio WITH LIFETIME so moving where there is only satellite is out of the question! Even if I *do* want a pony.

NBA playoffs not being recorded

Worked fine until the guide data description changed from specific teams and game # to the generic " 1st round playoff. Teams TBA. " I think the guide data changed because the necessity of the remaining games after game 4 in a 7 game series isn't known.

Tivo sees this and is treating these as all the same episode and won't record any of them except for the 1st. Or so it seems to me.

Nothing I can do except for manually record them in the guide.

I thought about workarounds like changing the OnePass to record duplicates. But no go. There is no option for that. Nevermind it would record the repeats of those games in the early AM hours and eat up 7 hours of hard drive space.

I can't believe Tivo isn't on top of stuff like this. I'm not talking about some obscure show on an obscure network. NBA playoffs on TNT.

New show- "Labor Games"

Just saw this on the noon news.

Some production company has come up with something that immediately struck me as distasteful.

A woman is in labor. She's in bed at the hospital.

Suddenly, a camera crew rush into the room, a host, bright lights and a lit sign with the name of the show ("Labor Games") apparently slide out from hiding places and illuminate the room.

The host explains the pregnant woman is now a contestant on "Labor Games" and begins asking her questions. If she successfully answers, she wins prizes.

This is not an SNL skit. Apparently, it's REAL.

If it wasn't for the fact one of the prizes (likely if the woman gets all the questions right) is a college scholarship for the kid, I'd be disgusted.

I mean, this is like the show "Cash Cab", but the circumstances under which the game is suddenly thrust upon the contestant is... I dunno. Inappropriate?

Watching live records the show but doesn't delete when done

I have watched live TV on my Android phone and tablet recently. When I stop watching I get the prompt asking me if I want to delete the recording. I always take the "yes" option. Yet, when I look at recordings, there it is. It just seems to ignore my request to quit and delete. Is this a known bug or a setting?

Is there a performance difference between the (CC & OTA) Roamio & the Plus & Pro?

I want to get a TiVo setup for my home and was originally considering 1 or 2 Plus or Pro Roamio boxes and 5 or 6 Mini V2 boxes, for a total of 7 boxes. I am considering cutting the cord in the future, so I am now thinking of getting 2 CC and OTA base Roamio boxes and 5 Mini V2 boxes. Is there any performance degradation or any lag associated with getting the base Roamio over the higher end models?

I know that the higher end Plus and Pro models include TiVo Stream capability and MoCA capability built right in. I currently have 2 Slingboxes and am considering getting a 3rd, so I don't really need TiVo Stream capability. I have Verizon FiOS and 4 Verizon MoCA routers in my network, so I don't need built in MoCA capability.

I only wish that the base Roamio had more storage , so I am planning on upgrading it to 1TB or 3TB. Will this void the warranty? If so, then I will need to get the external drive.

I had a change of heart on the Roamio model that I want because I can basically watch everything on NetFlix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO, and official show websites. I noticed that all of my shows are on these services and I don't watch sports. I currently have the Verizon FiOS NY area Ultimate HD TV, 150/35 (really 152/72) Internet, and Phone bundle for $164.99. I pay an additional $91.99 for the Quantum TV Premium 7 room setup. I also pay about $30.00 in taxes and fees. I already have NetFlix and Amazon Prime accounts. I would only need to get a Hulu account.

Trying to sell Tivo. Include Mini and Stream or sell seperate?

I'm about to list my Tivo Premiere 4 w/Lifetime (4 Tuner Model) and my Tivo Mini, Stream and new style Slide Remote. Would I be better off listing them separate or selling it all as a package?


I'm recently switched to Directv because I got sick of Suddenlink. I will definitely miss having a Tivo. :(

I ordered the Mayweather vs Pacquiao PPV via telephone. The lady I spoke with told me to tune in to channel 651 during the fight. I tuned into channel 651 and I get an error like "Channel not included in your cable card, please contact your cable provider for more information." I was wondering if anyone has any previous experience ordering PPVs on TWC and whether or not I'll be able to watch the fight on TiVo or have to get a separate set top box. I am using the TiVo Roamio Plus.

USA Network Guide Info Missing

I'm having an odd problem.
I have two TiVo Premieres, both with cablecards from WOW. All was fine for two years until a few days ago, when I received the message "Your channel lineup has changed" and it showed channel "233 - USAHD" had been deleted.

I checked, no notice from WOW that they had dropped USA. Rebooted the Premiere, not fixed.

Oddly, I can directly type in 233 and view USA programs just fine, albeit with no guide information (hitting INFO just shows "Title not available"). I could even go into the menu where you select channels to be displayed, and check the box marked "233 - USAHD". I can view USA Network just fine - there's just no guide info (and thus, no shows from that channel can be recorded).

This is happening on both TiVo Premiere boxes. Any idea what I need to do, or who I need to pester, to get this corrected?

Additional information:
- I've tried rebooting
- I've verified that the boxes are both talking successfully to the TiVo Service, and forced a connection even
- This started on either Sunday or Monday this week (4-5 days ago)

Why 1T strorage different with DTV and Tivo

I haven't used a Tivo since HDTV came out many years ago. I moved over to a Comcast DVR, then moved to DirecTV to get a better DVR. It was better; but I am ready to finally return to Tivo. It is the best. My question is about the Roamio Plus with 1T of storage. Tivo says that it will record 150 hours of HD. My DirecTV Genie with 1T records 200 hours. I would have thought that it would be the same. Does DTV use a different compression than Tivo?

The reason I am asking is that I am happy with the 200 hours; but with only 150, I might need to get a larger hard drive. Any help would be appreciated.

Charter Install with Roamio and Mini NE Georgia What to Expect??

I have my install scheduled for this Sunday. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a Charter install with Tivo in the NE Georgia area or if anyone had any last minute tips to help the tech and make his job easier.

The last thing I want is that look from my wife when it's 2 weeks before she can use this "fancy new stuff" I insisted we purchase :)

when i got on i didnt see crunchy roll on there for some reason (yes i watch anime what you gonna do about it ) but yeah i couldn't find it and then it comes back then disappears which is strange

KMTTG and HBO

I've just moved to Tivo from Windows Media Center. On WMC I could easily download recorded HBO shows and convert them to MP4 files. I'm having difficulty doing this on KMTTG. I get a message that it's not permitted. Am I doing something wrong or does Tivo and/or KMTTG put artificial limitations on downloading and decrypting HBO?

Person of Interest - S4E21 - “Asylum” - 04/28/2015

And we’re back with a big bang, with a head first jump into the “Machine Wars” arc concurrent with “The Brotherhood” arc.

We know things are bad when the Machine spits out the numbers of both Elias and Dominic.
While Reese and Fusco go see Elias, Root gets a call from Shaw, asking for help.
All while Control has abducted a teacher in one of Samaritan’s blind spots.

Even though it’s most certainly a trap, our Miss Groves is bound and determined to go find Shaw, even going to the point of forcing the Machine to help her. Finch reluctantly decided to go along.

Meanwhile, Reese and Fusco realize that Elias is using the old pneumatic tube system under the city to communicate with his crew and go to the source, Elias’ HQ.

Unfortunately, Dominic and his crew have also figured out where Elias is holed up and manage to capture our guys with Elias.

But Dominic doesn’t want to kill them right away, he wants their information.
Not just Elias’ but Team Machine’s as well. Dominic already knows too much because as we find out when she walks in, “Harper” happily sold out the team to Dominic.
(And when she walked in, my head —-> wall.)

This just illustrates why we don’t like “Harper”. It’s all about her, nothing for no one else.
Sure, she says to Fusco that she’ll help them but only because someone (no doubt the Machine) paid her a lot of money to.

Elias is interesting not only because he’s a planner, he has respect for Team Machine and genuinely likes some of them. “Harper” has none of this.

Elias, ever the crafty devil, manages to trick Dominic to kill Link, his right hand man by making Dominic think Link sold him out.
But they are still in Dominic’s custody.

Meanwhile Control is busy interrogating Shelly the school teacher that she kidnapped in the beginning of the episode.
It turns out that Shelly was the handler for the mole on Control’s team and has been visiting the White House to boot for Samaritan.

Control does get information from her, mostly it’s mostly in the form of threats about Samaritan’s “correction”.
(Hmmm, is that anything like The Purge?)

The meatiest story though belonged to Root and Finch tracking Shaw.
The trail leads to a psychiatric hospital (the titular Asylum) where they hope to find Shaw but instead find Samaritan’s control room, complete with Greer and Martine!

Unfortunately, Harold and Root are too late as we see what appears to be Shaw being taken away from the facility and the duo get captured while Martine taunts Root about how she broke Shaw into making the phone call and telling them about Root’s implant.
(Root fires back by snapping Martine’s neck.)

Greer wants the implant to trace it back to the Machine but the procedure to remove would make Root a vegetable. And likely, Harold would be killed.

This is when we see one of the more surprising acts of self sacrifice when the Machine offers to give Samaritan it’s location if Root and Harold are freed.
(Great scene with the two AIs “talking” on the monitors.)

So the episode ends with Reese and Fusco captured. Root and Finch trying to beat Decima to the Machine, and Control trying to find out more about “the correction”.

It’s a strong episode leading into the Season Finale.

One thing to note was that this episode answered a question I’ve had for about a year in what happens if Samaritan decided that Greer is “deviant”.
It turns out that Greer doesn’t care!
That’s how devoted to this ideal he is.

The other thing was how Reese was nicer to Fusco and Fusco was asking him if he was sick.

Router shows 2 ips

I have set a static ip on my Roamio, but when I check the dhcp table on my router the Roamio is listed with a second ip address. I am trying to get kmttg to work out of home.

Is it better to have the router use the mac adddres to assign a static ip and the Roamio use hdcp or have the Roamio pull a static ip by setting the Roamio with a static ip?

Fast forward issue and youtube

When I am fast forwarding a show that is recorded a lot of times it just stops moving like a pause.
Sometimes it catches backup but sometimes I need to exit and go back in

Also just stops while watching.
It keeps fast forwarding after hitting play.

Also the youtube is almost unwatchable stops downloading and very slow.

I am wondering if the drive is going bad.
Seems to be happening since an update?

TiVo app for PC - Windows 10 Apps to seamlessly port from Anadroid / IOS

I was watching the Microsft Build conference this morning and something caught my eye.

Microsoft has added support in Visual Studio to allow developers to easily port Android and IOS apps to Windows store apps using the native code base such as Objective C used by Apple.

No telling if TiVo will choose to port their app at that time, but it certainly will be supported once the new protocols are released.

Doubling Roamio Pro Storage

Does the newer TiVo Roamio Pro have WD30EURS or WD30EURX

I am looking at increasing my storage in steps.
first add an external storage to double my current storage in my Roamio Pro.

Step 1: double storage of my Pro.
Does the newer TiVo Roamio Pro have WD30EURS or WD30EURX. I Purchased it last month and it was built in Mexico on Sept 18, 2014.
If I put a matching 3TB internal drive in an external drive case of my 1TB external drive, will it be recognized as a valid drive number in the TiVo drive number table and work my my TiVo Roamio Pro without any modifications?

If YES, then I will have 6 TB for a few years, without voiding my TiVo warranty.

Step 2: you 12 TB upgrade for $900.
Assuming no other changes, when I need more storage I can use that offered by WEAKNEES.
The WeaKnees 12TB (or greater upgrade at the time) for ~$900.

Step 3: much more storage (is Mega worth it?)?
The newer TiVo Roamio MEGA will give me 24TB at a cost of $5K.
My current raomio Pro has 3TB internal and 1TB external for a cost of about $600. the MEGA should be priced at about the same price point or 6 times the cost of my pro and ext storage. that would be $3600. At $5K it is way overpriced.

Step 4: TiVo ULTRA (UHDTV) THIS WILL BE THE FOUNDATION OF THE SERICES 6 DVRs (IMO).
Around Christmas this year TiVo may come out with it's ULTRA will will Have 4K recording capability, 6 tuners, may be a Roamio, have more storage and may also be a TiVo Series 6 UHD device with it's new UHDTV format.

Problems with new Roamio. Am I screwed?

Just bought a Roamio with lifetime. Live in St. Louis have charter cable.
Took a couple of tries but got the Motorola cable card working. I can view everything but premiums. Called support was told I needed a tuning adapter. Tech support came out with a Motorola MTR700 which didn't work. Several tries later with several more tech support visits, they were not able to get the Roamio to recognize the TA. Last guy called his super to ask what he should do next. Super made it sound like they had done everything they could do at that point.
Some research on the internet, this forum and other places, said it could be that the TA needs a firmware update to 1.40 so the Roamio can talk to it. I called Charter to ask if they could locate a TA with the correct firmware. Tech support said they would send someone out with the correct box the next day.

2 guys from Charter show up to tell me the following.
1. They don't have a clue what the firmware settings are on the TA's
2. They can't change them
3. They may or may not get them in the future
4. Charter is going down a different path that may use different equipment

I have already filed a complaint with the FCC, but beyond that, I don't know what else to do. So, any suggestions?

What are the minimum data elements for a TiVo Metadata file?

I want to simply organize random Video Podcasts pushed via pyTivo under a couple simple folders, no descriptions, etc., are needed.

From the below list, I think I only need:

Two nights, three shows, all doing a crossover event with each other. (You can still get the first chapter if you missed it last night.)

In the SF Bay Area, NBC's affiliate KNTV will be airing baseball, and will push one show aside to its parallel channel. (TiVo should pick this up for you automatically, but it's good to check if you have conflicts or signal strength issues.)

To recap:
Tuesday's "Chicago Fire" will reair on KNTV-DT2 186 tonight at 8PM.
"Chicago P.D." airs on KNTV-DT2 186 at 9PM.
"Law&Order:SVU" airs on regular KNTV 3/703 at 10PM -- following the baseball game, so pad accordingly.

(This is not the usual order for their respective timeslots, but it seems to be the scheduled order for air and the intended order for the crossover story.)

TiVo Stream vs. Slingbox??

Hey everybody,

Trying to figure out the best option for streaming live t.v. and my recorded programs.

Currently I have a slingbox 500 and issue is with the quality of the stream, it works perfectly fine and in high quality on my PC (even connected to the tv via HDMI cord) or Samsung s6 edge. However, whenever I try and mirror the video to my Chromecast, the video quality drops to nearly un-watchable and is buffering often. The Chromecast does work in perfect HD quality when streaming HBOGO. Would a Roku work any better for higher quality stream from my slingbox to phone to TV?

I am trying to decide if I should swap out for a TiVo stream. My questions for this device are, does TiVo stream have Chromecast capability from my S6 Edge or PC? If so, will the video quality be better than the slingbox?

bought a Premiere, need FiOS CableCARD help

Hi,

I bought a used Premiere 4 and Mini, to replace my old Tivo HD's. But I can't get it to tune any channels. I have Verizon FiOS, and they've tried to pair both of my existing M-cards with no success.

I called TiVo, and he had me go to the Conditional Access screen and verified that the card was paired. But he says that I should also see AUTH, which isn't there. He says that this means the channels aren't being authorized. The Verizon rep was out of ideas, so a tech is bringing me a new M-card on Saturday.

But I'm not sure that the M-card is the issue. Even un-paired, I can insert the activated M-cards into either TiVo HD and tune everything but HBO. Shouldn't I also be able to do the same with the Premier 4?

Romio OTA and Romio cable working together

Right now I have a Romio OTA upstairs connected to an Antenna in the attic for HD OTA channels.

I just found out I get basic cable for free with my HOA. No cable card needed, my TV can tune the channels with no cable box or card, that is tested and working.

If I put a Romio downstairs connected to the basic cable, can that Romio also stream HD content recorded on the OTA upstairs? Do shows recorded on the OTA appear in My Shows or do I have to do something else to access shows on the OTA?

Do I need to pay the monthly service fee for both Tivo's?

Is there any other way to stream the HD content from the Romio OTA to the downstairs TV?

Mini V2 C33 no moca to existing Roamio plus and Mini V1 moca

I activated 2 new Mini V2 (93000) to add to my existing and functional Roamio Plus and 2 Mini V1 (92000). cant get the V2 to complete the setup - returns an error C33 cant connect to Moca. the existing version 1 mini's both still work fine (thankfully). Activation was "online" (Mini V2 bought via Ebay). Took over night to go from "Activation pending" to "Activated". I then forced network connection multiple times on Roamio Plus, rebooted (by unplugging the plugging back in) the Mini V2 but still C33 error. :mad:

is 18 hours not long enough for activation and validation to occur?
what else can i try?

Do you get guest names on Kimmel and Jon Stewart shows?

Please tell me if your TiVo supports this info for you? I used to get the names of the guests on these shows. Now they (and many other shows) just say the type show it is.
On the menu, it is Jimmy Kimmel Live4/29. But no guest names
On Jon Stewart, it's the same, but 4/29 has several shows so my Tivo records them as new shows.

I'm wondering if TiVo Guide has become less and just lists the type of show, thus I want your input.

I have rebooted my computer several times, and downloaded information 6 times so far today, exponentially the past few day. I have daily disconnected my Tuning Adapter, and keeping it off all day yesterday meant it did the Garbage Collection, and then it downloaded information again. And then I did repeatedly.

Tivo Roamio ?'s & issues....

I’m a new tivo convert and so far very happy. I took back all the Comcast crap hardware on Monday, got a new deal with them and no longer have a hardware charge on my bill (Cable card is free). I’m hoping I can explain what I’m trying to do (#1 & #4) as well as some comments/issues with tivo I see (#2 and #3).

1) When I’m watching a DVR’d show, and I hit the “My Tivo” button (either accidentally or on purpose) the DVR’d show is in a window in the upper right, how do I got back to the DVR’d show recording to full screen? I’ve tried all sorts of buttons. Live tv button goes to Live TV and not back. All other buttons do nothing. Only way to go back to the DVR’d show is to go into my shows and say resume which I think is dumb. No “go back, last, previous” button if you will. Maybe it’s just me.

2) Netflix is broken on my roamio and Minis now. Worked when I first set it up but it will connect on the roamio but will NOT display any album art and its slow to navigate. I’ve rebooted everything and that didn’t’ do anything. (I’m Ethernet with Moca on for 1 Mini out of my 3 minis I have)

3) Video on Demand (Comcast) is hit or miss if it works. Sometimes its great, sometimes is says it can’t connect to service. For me, not an issue but for the rest of the family, this isn’t making my case for Tivo (Even though I’m saving $40+ a month in hardware cost).

4) Am I suppose to be able to stream shows from my Roamio? I was under the impression yes, but looks like it only works when you are on your own Wifi? I have the app but it gives me the wifi message. I'd love to use my unlimited LTE. :)

DWTS Season 20 (OAD 4/27/2015)

Haven't watched DWTS for a few seasons now, but picked it up a bit last season because I wanted to how Alfonso Ribeiro would do (and as most know, he did great)...

I picked it up again this season, and I had forgotten what drew me to the show from the beginning...

It's less about the actual dancing, and more about the struggle of learning something new and difficult, and how one copes with the challenge...

Sorry to see Willow go... She did so well throughout the competition, and to have the top scoring couple leave was completely surprising...

MRV HD3 to HD2 Transfer to Files

My multi-room viewing works fine, but an oddness just occurred:

When I transfer Father Brown (PBS) to the HD2, they are posted separately and according to date, instead of together in a file folder as all my others are.

Curious, I did it repeatedly, with and without my TA connected and other ways.

Any idea what could be going on?

Streaming from Base Roamio?

I have a Roamio Pro with no inputs, but existing recordings and a new base Roamio. Do I need to get the Tivo Steam if I want to stream from my base Roamio?

Will my Minis work with the base Roamio without anything else?

I am just digging out after moving and getting things setup.

Disable Signal Search on Roamio Pro?

I have hooked my Roamio Pro up in my new house, but it does not have a cable card or any reception. (I want to get the recordings off of it, for one thing.) Can I set something to tell it to quite trying to look?

I plan on keeping it around for a bit to see if I can get enough neighbors to talk Comcast into running to our street (from 2 streets over), but I may end up selling it after all since it seems worthless otherwise.

Pretty good episode.

Best line of the episode was from Skye, about Raina: "Really? I thought her gift was spinning really fast to collect gold rings." That is such a perfect reference for her to drop. I wonder how much of the audience got that one. :)

Simmons continuing to take a turn towards the dark side it seems. (Oh, sorry, wrong Disney property there.)

A few references in this episode to the movie. It'll be interesting to see if next week's episode requires having watched Age of Ultron first.

TiVo Roamio OTA

I have been trying to watch MLB.tv tonight on my OTA box. It shows the game for a few seconds, then the screen show shows "stay tuned" and does not ever display the game. Same with all games. I have a roku 3 in my bedroom and it is working fine there. I have unplugged the Tivo to reset but it didn't help.

Any thoughts?

TiVo forgets where I stopped playing

Sometimes when I am watching a recording, I will hit live tv to check on a show. When I go back to resume watching the recording, it will not resume. The menu will just show Play.

Is this a new bug? Not reproducible easily, usually I skip fwd to where I was and resume works ok from there on.

Only Some of My Channels Won't Stream

On my iOS device, I can successfully stream all of my shows (using a Premeire and separate Tivo Stream). I use an antenna so I have no broadcast-flag issues. However, I recently bought a new Kindle Fire HD 7 and I am only able to stream some of my shows to that device. The NBC, CBS and PBS affiliates programming only shows a black screen.
I've read on one of the threads here that MP4 encoding could be an issue, but this wouldn't explain why all the channels stream just fine to my Apple device.
There's also a thread about people experiencing a bad Mpeg2 signal from their local PBS station, but this seems unlikely to be my problem - since I have 3 different channels that refuse to stream. Thoughts?

TiVo Problems

My TiVo reboots while watching a recording or using the menus. Recordings freeze and I have to us the 30 second skip button to continue. If I back up to just before the place it freezes, it still freezes at the exact place. Sometime the screen goes black for 10 seconds and then come back. Sometimes while in the menus (SD and HD) the TiVo freezes for 30 to 60 minutes at a time. The mostly happens while it is recording So I don't want to unplug it. This has happened since day one of owning it. It has never been fixed by software updates. Is this a ard ware problem or a hard drive problem. I have an external drive connect. it is a TiVo Premiere.

MoCO Network Diagram Help

I have an existing Roamio Standard (no built in MoCO)

My Roamio, Router and Modem are all together at the entertainment center.

My main data panel is in an upstairs hall closet. No Ethernet between hall closet and entertainment center (bummer).

I want to put two TiVo minis in bedrooms (I have coax to bedrooms)

I want to put a Tivo mini in the garage (no coax but I do have Ethernet from closet to garage).

TiVo Credit Card Idiocy on Lifetime Transfer

I sold a Roamio base model, with lifetime on eBay. I provided TiVo with the buyer's name. He called and thought he completed the transfer.

It still shows on my account, and in my IOS app. I called yesterday, and in 20 minutes was bounced between billing and tech support, before I was cut off.

Today I called again. The CSR said I had to call the buyer, because it was still on my credit card. He couldn't explain why they needed a credit card on a unit with lifetime. I refused and asked for a supervisor. Mike, employee number 36460, came on and said he would call the buyer, making it sound like it was a favor. I told him if I got the call, I wouldn't provide it since there's nothing to charge. I've wasted an hour on this.

So be aware that TiVo keeps your credit card info on file for lifetime boxes, and if you have sold a unit, check your account to assure that it has been taken off.

Multiple Roamios/Minis question

I'm about to take the plunge on updating my three Series 3's and one Series 2 to a Roamio/Mini setup. I just ordered a Roamio Plus with lifetime from Tivo, and I'm now freaking out about my loss of OTA capability (I have Time Warner also). Is it possible for me to add a Roamio OTA to this setup, also? How does each Mini work with the two Roamios? Does each Mini have to be dedicated to a certain Roamio? And if so, can you still do some form of streaming (or MRV) between the different Roamios and their associated Minis?

Oh, one more questions - is it possible to add lifetime service to a Roamio OTA?

Sorry for the noob questions. I was a Tivo expert 6-8 years ago and haven't touched the stuff for so long that I'm an absolute idiot again. I'll probably be posting many more questions in the next few weeks as I try to make this changeover.

Ethernet connection...

Suddenlink owns my box but if there is an easy solution I'd rather do it myself.

I just had Suddenlink move my modem to the TV area but I need my router a little more centrally located - the next room. I have a single RJ45 pass-through in the wall so I can connect the modem to the router, but I just noticed there is an Ethernet cable from the router to the TiVo.

Can I just put an RJ45 splitter on the modem and run one Ethernet to the TiVo and the other to my router? In case it matters, there is a MoCA connection too.

Trying to record show to remote Premiere using guide, how?

I have 2 Tivo Premieres' connected to my home network in family room and bedroom.

I am tying to record a show from my family room Premiere to my bedroom premiere using the guide.

However, I can't get it work. I goto the other Tivo on the screen but when I press the guide it only records to the local Tivo.

What I am missing here? Please help. Thanks.

One Pass Issue for Baseball Games on Multiple Channels

So I'm trying to figure out how to create a One Pass for Giants' baseball games that are on more than one channel but not on all the channels that have MLB Baseball Game as description. Before I could just create multiple Season Passes, for each channel. Now, as far as I can find, with the One Pass, you can either create a One Pass for just one channel, or for all of them. I know I have to be missing something. Tivo can't be this backward where this new, wonderful "One Pass" which is the answer to all our woes would be a step backward? Please tell me how to create a One Pass for multiple (but not all) channels.

Anyway, looks like Kalinda is gone. I was really hoping we'd finally get a scene between Kalinda and Alicia. Wonder what was in the letter?

Cannot Remove OnePass Streaming Folder fr My Shows

I added a OnePass for a show fr Yahoo Screen. This, as expected, created a folder in My Shows which shows the available streaming eps.

I then cancelled the OnePass. But I cannot delete the folder from My Shows.

Depending on the in folder view, the view shows nothing (no recorded shows) or the available seasons of the show to stream. I can press "Cancel" on the folder in My Shows, but that just changes the folder icon to an X... the folder never goes away (and then is back w. its regular icon if I go out and back into My Shows).

Any ideas?

Tivo desktop copy protected

I purchased Tivo desktop to be able to transfer some shows from my Roamio to my laptop when i travel. Looks like most of my shows on ESPN are copy protected.

Question: Is there any way at all to extract these shows? I read some posts about older models with eprom and software hack but have not seen anything on the new Roamio series dvr. My guess would be no way around the CCI bit and I'm screwed but If anyone know it is this community.

Automated Webcasts to TiVo - working (a good start)

Sorry if this is a re-tread for some of you:

Using a collection of existing utilities, I am able to nicely automate the process of downloading Webcasts to my TiVo:

1. gPodder - http://gpodder.org/

I identified my favorite podcast URLs in the app and set the refresh frequency (i.e., 30 min). This utility checks for new episodes and grabs them automatically into a designated folder on my PC. After a specified period, the webcasts are auto deleted from the PC (i.e., 1 day). A logfile is created with paths/filenames.

2. pyTivo AutoPush - http://ift.tt/1Exn3HC

This app monitors the designated folders (i.e., the identified Media folder config'd in pyTivo). As new content arrives in the folder structure, a pyTiVo push is initiated automatically.

3. pyTivo - http://ift.tt/1Exn3HE

Our trusty utility used to PUSH (and pull) content to TiVo.

4. Webcasts work great; but, as "other" content arrives in my \Media folders, they get also PUSHED to my TiVo in the same automated manner.

The only bit of missing functionality which I am hopeful I can insert to this process is to adjust the ProgramName and TiVoFolder to permit a more orderly organization of the content as it arrives on the TiVo.

Looking at the various log files produced in the process outlined above, full paths and filenames are available which should permit me to inspect and automate the creation of the associated metadata files. Timing may be a factor to manage, but should be doable - i.e., enable the push app only when metadata files are ready for the current content set/or update period.

Thanks to all the authors of the utilities noted above! Your work is much appreciated.

If you have an alternate approach or utilities in your workflow, please share them.

Dead Tuner?

Last week Cox came to my house and told me that my home was creating too much noise on the network and it was causing packet loss on the rest of the node. The issue wound up being the power pack on the Cox installed amplifier. Before they found that they had replaced the amplifier and the two splitters at the DMARC.

After they left I discovered that my Premier Elite was no longer connecting to the network via MoCA. I could watch it come up and drop repeatedly on the network status page.

Thinks got worse the next day when the TiVo would not tune any channels except for the local SD channels, and they were very pixelated. Thinking it might be a Cablecard issue I swapped the CC with the one in my 4. Still no luck. Along with this issue the fan start making a ton of noise, so I replaced it.

Cox is scheduled for a truck roll tomorrow. I'm just not sure what they are going to do. I am wondering if I have a bad tuner. Its just too much of a coincidence that this happened that same time they were screwing with my network. The TiVo that is having the issue is the only one that is connected directly to the amplifier, the other TiVo and Minis have a splitter between them and the amp.

The Last Man on Earth - "The Tandyman Can" S1:E12 OAD 04/26/2015

OK, this show is getting funny again. All of the women fawning over Phil was kind of expected, but his creeped out reaction makes me laugh. Now the women know what it's like to be the thirsty ones. I could see from the beginning that Phil was really only into Carol.

Other notable moments for me - Melissa's strange behavior towards Phil (touching his arm, riding the garbage truck) would make me a little perturbed as well, if I'm being honest. I wouldn't have reacted like Todd, though. Todd's immediate downward spiral after breaking up with Melissa seemed excessive.

Tandy's creepy laugh when Phil said he didn't want him to be president was perfect.

i don't think Phil is gonna be on the show long, since he's talking about how Tucson is the worst place to sustain human life. Also, in the last episode credit, it said "Special Guest Star."


Also, the show titles seem to have changed. I believe this episode use to be called:

Phil Miller Must Die, which makes sense based on the last scene.

I think Todd is becoming the new Phil (assuming Phil was having sex with ALL of the women and being distraught about it), and Tandy is becoming the comedy relief (planting nothing but jalapeno seeds. I guess they could make some good spicy cheese.

And who could forget that sex scene?

Suggestions recording in SD

I was just wondering if there was a way to set the dvr to record the suggestions that it records in HD. It seems that the recordings are in SD only all the time. Is there a settings option for this that I can change it? Thank you

On Remotes and Sleep Timers

Hi folks,

Just posting here as a lark, in case by some miracle someone else here has had a similar problem and come up with a creative solution.

I just upgraded TVs in the bedroom, which has caused me a new remote control problem. My current setup there is a Mini (connected to a Roamio elsewhere). I'm trying to figure out how to get everything to work with just a single tivo remote.

The old TV remote had a dedicated button for the sleep timer, which I found very useful since I often will fall asleep while watching. I also had one of the old (non-slide-pro) learning remotes, so I trained it to use the sleep button code when pressing the Input button, and now I could do everything I need from the one TiVo remote.

The new TV (a VIZIO P552UI-B2) has a sleep timer, but the remote doesn't have a dedicated key for it. You have to hit menu, use some arrow keys, select timers, use more arrow keys, get to sleep timer, then use the arrow keys some more to select the time, then hit the back key. It's a bit of a pain.

I've been using google-fu to see if there is a discrete IR code for cycling through sleep times, but haven't found one yet. And even if I find one, I'm not sure what I would do with it since the learning remote has to be laid end to end with a remote which is using the right code, which my remote doesn't do.

The only other thing I've been able to come up with is that the TV has a setting where it will automatically shut off if there is no input signal for X minutes. If I could somehow get the Mini to stop outputting a signal after the show ends, that would work. But after it times out you don't get no signal, you get the "push the tivo button or live tv button" screensaver. I also did some quick testing with the power saving mode on the main Roamio to see if that changed anything, but I don't think it did.

So, anyone have any ideas which would let me get my TV to shut off automatically without needs to keep both remotes lying around?

side question: Since I'm using the old learning remote, it doesn't have ABCD buttons, which is sometimes also inconvenient and I have to dig around for the original Mini remote.

Is there any way to access the ABCD button functions when using a remote that doesn't have them? I could have sworn it was possible by hitting the enter key from a list view screen, but can't get it working any more. Maybe it disappeared with a recent Roamio software update?

One Mini comes up but 2nd Mini won't work

I installed a Roamio Plus and 2 Mini's this weekend. I've been a long time TiVo user, but this was my first experience with Moca.

The first mini came up fine, but everything went into the toilet on the 2nd mini which didn't want to connect to the internet. After several Roamio reboots it finally completed setup and worked ok. I then, installed the POE between the TWC splitter outside and the primary cable feed. I immediately noticed that the 2nd mini then started making a popping sound when changing channels then the video started breaking up and the unit spewed errors. I remove the POE which didn't help, so I reinstalled the POE.

In the room where the Roamio was set up, I had a 2 way splitter with 1 cable to the tuning adaptor and 1 to the cable modem. (TWC) I had a cable on the tuning adaptor out to the Roamio in.

TiVo tech support said that forcing MoCa through the tuning adaptor wasn't good, so I bought a 2 Ghz+ 4 way splitter. (Couldn't find a 3 way) I ran an independent coax line to the Roamio bypassing the tuning adaptor. The 4th port on the splitter was unused. (I hope that's not a problem)

After that the cable modem wouldn't connect to the internet which was a mystery, so I removed the POE again, and the internet came up, however the 2nd mini still didn't work.

In the diagnostic process with TiVo support I noted that signal strength was not good on the tuners (70-85%). After all this the signal strength returned to 95%. I'm suspicious of the POE as a cause for this.

So, could someone provide a recommendation for what to try next?

New series on the CW on Friday nights. Without trying to post any spoilers, it seems like a mishmash of shows already airing (i.e., angels and the devil; you'll see the similarity to Sleepy Hollow in the 2nd episode).

Happyish S1E1 (4/26/15) [SPOILERS]

I didn't read any of the descriptions of the show before I watched, and was surprised to see it listed as a drama on DirecTV. I had assumed from the promos that it was a comedy.

Not too impressed so far. I don't find the leads likeable or relatable. Maybe it's just me. The acting seems forced.

I can't imagine that Keebler would have given consent for the treatment of their brand icons in this show.

Maybe I'm the wrong demo for this show.

So since i upgraded to the Romio I don't have a need for this ..it has a new power supply the bottem of the cable card input has its eject button broken (the spring does not send the card out so I just pull out the card via a neddle nose plier.

TiVo Stream too slow when using OOH streaming

Why is TiVo Stream so slow when streaming when away from home!?!? I'm trying to download a one hour show but it says it will take 3 hours.

I know it's not my home Internet since I can VPN home and download files at 6-7MB/s. It would probably be faster for me to grab my shows via kmttg and transfer them via Air Video HD or something else...

Season Passes not recording

Very strange thing, I've added Game of Thrones and Silicon Valley to my season passes and both don't record. When I search for the shows in the guide they actually say "no upcoming episodes". Why does it lie and how do I fix this?:mad:

Tivo HD no way to deactivate Netflix

With the new top level menu as of 4/15 there is no way to deactivate Netflix on my Tivo HD. Does anyone know how? I've looked through every menu and I can't find anyway to do it. I do not want to do a factory reset to get rid of it do don't suggest that.

Incomplete Downloads

Hi Running the current version 1.1n. Seems as though there seems to be an increasingly common issue in that when I offload a recording from one of my Tivos to my pc the download appears to complete but in actuality stops at some point prior to the full file, in particular I notice that 60 minute recording seem to only transfer approx. 55 mins, not error message noted. Any idea how to address this or what may cause the issue. Thanks..

Why can't I delete shows in the download manager?

I'm trying to delete 3 passes in the download manager and it will not let me. How can I delete them?

I press clear and it and pick yes to cancel the series and it doesn't delete them.

OK, here's a mystery I hope someone can solve cuz it's driving me crazy. Don't know if it's a TiVo issue of a cable issue.

My info: TiVo Series 2 (WISH I could afford to upgrade), Samsung 22" Flat screen model UN22F5000, Cisco Explorer 4642HDC digital box from Time Warner.

My tv finally gave up the ghost and crapped out on me so I upgraded and purchased an HD flat screen TV. After replacing my digital cable box with an HD on from Time Warner I hooked everything up and turned the TV on. Picture was grainy. And when I transferred a program from one room to the other, it had as very low volume (which could not be turned up) and even grainier picture. Not knowing what the problem was I called Time Warner and they sent out a technician. I honestly don't think the guy knew what he was doing. But he managed to change some cables around - connecting the TiVo to the TV with the audio / video cables (red, yellow and white ones) and telling me to watch the HD via AV source, not TV. This worked! Perfect picture. The sound problem I fixed by putting the volume up all the way on the TV (unable to adjust volume of the cable box) and plugging in a pair of computer speakers and turning up and down the volume in my room that way.

The Mystery: Now some of the shows I record are muted. The TV is NOT muted and it doesn't happen EVERY recording. It's a crap shoot if it'll record with sound. With the recordings that are muted, I have not been watching to know if the TV is muted when recording or if there's sound but records muted. I've made some changes to the cables hoping to fix this issue.The TV is now connect via the audio / video cables AND the coaxial cable. When I first looked I saw that the A&V cable was only going IN on the TiVo box and OUT from the TV so I also connected another set of A&V cable to go from the TiVo to the Cable box. None of this fixed the problem. Still record muted sometimes. I checked my suggestion folder. I had three programs recorded back to back. I checked the top one (recorded 8 - 9 am) and it had sound. I checked the next one down (7 - 8 am) it had NO sound.

Is this a TiVo issue or a Cable issue? I have no idea. This all started after I purchased and connected the flat screen . Can it be the Cable's issue? But it's TiVo that does the recordings so is it a TiVo issue? I'm at a loss....

Anyone have any ideas?

Roamio does not record scheduled shows, no conflict

Mostly my Roamio is working as expected, but for couple of shows I just can't get it to record them properly.

For these shows
- there is no conflict (in fact it is the only show to be recorded at that time)
- I temporarily set it to record all (new and old, all seasons) - just to make sure that I am not somehow inadvertently restricting what is to be recorded
-there is no double checkmark ever present for any episode(in upcoming)
- the show will record if I manually force it - in such a case the option will be "record again" which makes absolutely no sense because it is a first showing, with a future date, so there is no way it could have been recorded previously

I really don't know what is going on here - I never had this problem with my old tivo

Add a box, pay double?

I have a Premiere XL to record OTA now and am considering a second box in our RV. The RV box would be for both OTA or campground-provided cable. I just wanted to confirm that if I add a second box I have to pay another full subscription for that box, there is no multi-unit discount? About $28? Seems a crazy price per month for a programming guide. TIA

TiVo App: Any way to set up a manual recording?

Nascar was rained out yesterday and I forgot to set a manual recording for its rescheduled time today (doesn't show in the guide.) Now I'm at work and tried to find a manual recording option in the TiVo App but could not find it. Am I blind or is there not an option for it?

Premier Lifetime for $99 or Roamio OTA?

Been on UVerse for a couple of years and Tivo just sent me a letter offering to get lifetime on my old Premier for $99. I actually have 2 premier's (one I've never used) in the attic, wondering if they'll give me the same deal on the second one too.

I've been thinking about going back to OTA for a while now anyway so here's my question to you all: should stick with the Premier(s) or is the $50 Roamio OTA that much of a better machine (even with it's $15/mo fee) that I should just go that way?

pyTiVo - Automation?

I'm sure others have been down this path; I'm just not sure where to begin my search.

Here's my situation:

1. I acquire video content from a number of sources using manual and automated means
2. This content is stored under a common parent folder (ex: \Media\)
3. I currently use pyTiVo to manually push selected content to my TiVo
4. I then manually perform the necessary housekeeping to remove old content from \Media folders

So, here is my automation question - Is this something like this possible?:

1. Periodically scan the \Media folder structure for newly arrived programs
2. When found, Automatically push to TiVo using pyTiVo
3. Kill the programs from \Media folder upon transfer
4. Rinse-Repeat on a schedule

Any suggestions or pointers are welcome.

New Mini remote wont work!!

I'm not having much luck with my new Mini. I can't get MoCa going (as I have stated in another post) and now the remote stopped working. It won't even light up. I tried new batteries and nothing. Can anyone offer some help?

Amazing Race did NOT record.

For some reason I can NOT get the Amazing Race to record ANYMORE.

For 2 years I have had a Season pass now One Pass for this show.

The other day I thought it didn't air because nothing taped.

I find out it DID air and the Tivo just didn't record it.

I go to the history and to do list and NOTHING is there for this show. I check all the settings and everything is correct.

So I cancel the Pass and create a new one, After the new one is created it does NOT show the show in the to do list.

It also is my number 1 show in my list to make sure there are no conflicts.

What's going on?

Also, no recordings for this program show up in history anywhere. Nothing in History or To do list. However the past recordings are still in the box either in guide or in deleted. There is just no log of the recordings.

Can't connect to MoCa

Hello everyone, I have a brand new Roamio Plus and 2 Tivo Minis. I can't connect to MoCa on the Mini. I have a direct Ethernet connection from the Router to the Roamio. I have MoCa enabled on the Roamio. I have the POE filter installed where the cable comes into the house but MoCa will not work. I tried a Powerline adapter and was able to finish the Mini setup but it says it cant find the Living Room DVR (what I named the Roamio). This is very frustrating. I really want to use MoCa. Can anyone guide me here? Thanks!!!

HDMI connection not permitted

OK, so I went on vacation for a week and come back to no picture.

Premiere XL4 w Xfinity cable card Software: 20.4.6a.RC1-01-2-758

Every TV channel, every recorded show display the error message below with no picture or audio.
Netflix videos and the YouTube app work fine.
Also, I do have uploaded videos in the My Shows list which play fine.

I tried rebooting, reseating the cablecard, changed HDMI port on TV, replaced HDMI cable. Nothing fixed the error. I don't have a component cable handy tonight, but that should work. But I DON'T want to have to use a component cable because the HDMI cable has worked fine for the past 2 years.

How do I fix this? Was it the 20.4.6a update that caused this? HELP!

Issues with My XL4 since update

Hello,

Long Long time lurker/reader here (great community you have here with tons of info). Some specs on my tivo

Software: 20.4.6a.RC1-01-2-758
RS Corrected/Uncorrected: 0/0 (rarely do I have any at all)
SNR: 34-36 depending on time/day
Signal Strength: 95-97% again depending on time/day
My cable card is paired correctly which has been verified by tivo/comcrap many times
Misc Cables: 1 splitter which is brand new, all wires from the wall to my tivo are as old as my xl4 is which I purchased in August 2014

I think that covers everything so my issues that have me debating dropping tivo..

Issue 1: Ever since (it seems at least) they came out with the one pass update I've had nothing but issues. The biggest most frustrating issue is what I call "digital noise". In a nutshell what happens is I record any show on any channel and sometime through the show there is a hiccup in my signal/digital noise appears on my screen and now when I try to transfer the show over to my pc (as I watch stuff on my ipad) it only transfers over up to digital noise then stops. It doesn't matter if I use tivos old free desktop or the new paid one or kmtgg it stops everytime. I've tried pausing it on the spot that has the digital noise and slowly fast forwarding through it while its transferring. Nothing the recording is basically useless unless I watch it on my tv. Which defeats the purpose of me owning a tivo basically. Now I know it isn't my cable card as I've swapped cable cards many times and I've seen no difference. The digital noise issue is completely random, it doesn't seem to matter if I record sd/hd/noon/8pm/2am/etc. To be blunt, tivo has been extremely useless with this issue. I've even been told my internet connection isn't fast enough to transfer over the file from my tivo and that is why its incomplete......wtf? I have a 125MBps Down 20MBps Up Connection, I work with computers and the internet all day long I know my connection is fine.

Issue 2: GUIDE! Holy CRAP! WTF happened here?!?!? am I the only one on comcrap (CT area) with the worst guide in history? I completely understand tivo doesn't do the guide it comes from TMS who gets it from the cable companies. I understand again that once you get deep into the guide (around 1 1/2 weeks-2 weeks mark) you will find some "To Be Announced" I'm fine with that. But when the to be announced never go away and never update I have a problem with that. I have huge blocks of "to be announced" like 5am to 9pm then 9pm to 3am the following day. I connect to tivo services just fine, its connect through a RJ5 cable as my tivo is an arm reach from my router. I connect to their server probably 3-4 times a day with 0 updates. I've redone my guided setup so many times I can probably be a level 1 tech support employee for them. I've done the advanced guided setup (where instead of letting tivo ask you what channels you have, you select the cable package).

I'm a month away from just dropping tivo completely. I have so many tickets opened it is seriously sad. Has anyone had anything like these issues? They sent me a new tivo in exchange for this tivo cause they thought it was broken.....that tivo didnt' even boot up it was dead in the box.

YouTube buffering issues

Ever since wonderful TiVo took away the download manager it has been impossible to watch anything on YouTube. Whether directly through the TiVo menu for YouTube or if I stream it through my iOS device. No issues on my devices or computer but only when going through TiVo
Any possible solutions would help.
Doing speed tests on my internet I'm getting between 50-60 download speeds and 25-30 upload

Tivo mini live TV top corner

Hi, just set up a tivo mini and have a question. Live the roamio box when you have the tivo central open on your screen the TV channel you have on live will display in the top right corner of your screen.
I can't seem to get that to happen on the mini? Are you able to do that with the mini? . Thanks

Mini and MOCA - switching from ethernet

Just a tip: My Mini was working fine on Ethernet but I had to free up a port so I decided to switch over to MOCA and use the existing cable line.

The MOCA unit came up fine but the Mini refused to connect despite me going through the setup several times. Troubleshooting was weird, all the diagnostics were different each time I ran them. Sometimes it would say the DNS was wrong, sometimes the Ports test failed. It wouldn't connect to Tivo hq and I couldn't ping the Mini. I concluded the cable was somehow bad.

On a chance I rebooted the Mini - and suddenly it started working! Everything tested fine and the Mini works perfectly.

So make sure you reboot the Mini!

Will the Roamio DVRs work with standard def TVs? I noticed the base Roamio doesn't appear to have any video out jacks on it.

If you can use them on SD TVs, how are the menus and the output aspect ration handled?

Man, I don't know what Matt was looking for in the Klompen shop, but he clearly needed to stop being so frantic and spend some more time studying the example shoe. Seems that once he finally did that, he found it pretty quickly.

Hayley was in rare form again. She doesn't seem to understand that getting Blair to acknowledge that he was wrong and she was right does them no good. She's all about getting recognized rather than focusing on moving forward.

The hot tub thing was pretty cool. The locals watching them seemed like this was something bizarre, but I assume those hot tub boats are something available for people to do in Amsterdam all the time.

Glad to see it was another non-elim leg. I don't necessarily like those legs, but I like it when teams I'm rooting for are saved, and I like Matt and Ashley.

Three more weeks. I have to assume this was the last non-elim. So does that mean we're back to a final three this season rather than a final four like last time?

America's Ballroom Challenge 2015

Just wanted to give people a heads-up that America's Ballroom Challenge is back on PBS. There will be three weeks in all. Hosts are Tony Meredith and Mary Murphy (w/no screaming).

Episode #501 OAD 4/24/15 on my PBS stations showcased the six finalists in the American Smooth and American Rhythm divisions.

We get a brief look at some of the group dances, and then they go right into the showdances.

Next week will be International Standard and International Latin (the 10 dances that DwtS originally started out with).

The third week is the Grand Finale, where all the winners of the four division compete to see who will be the champion.

If you want to see the current styles and fashions in ballroom dance, check it out. Even if you don't like the dancing all that much, tune in to look at the dresses, which can be spectacular. They aren't done on the "we have to toss something together in a week" schedule that Dancing with the Stars is forced to keep -- and it shows.

Recording start switches channel

I have a Tivo Roamio Plus. If I set a recording on one channel if I am watching another channel, when the recording starts Tivo switches the channel to the recording channel. I figured with this having 6 tuners it wouldnt do that. Is there a way to prevent this?

Tivo app forces you to record what you watch??

Hi everyone, I just received my new Roamio Plus. I downloaded the Tivo app for my iphone with the hope I could watch live tv on it. I can do that but it also makes you record the channel you are watching. I don;t like that at all as it could use up space quickly. Is there a way to watch live tv without recording it? From the tivo website it states "Watch live TV or recorded shows anywhere".

Amazon pulls the HD plug on all TIVO Customers

Several weeks prior to April 15, 2015 Amazon announced they would no longer provide download capability for video content on older TIVO models. The only models they would continue to support with download capability were the Roamio and Premiere Series 4 units, I own a Premiere Series 4.

Over the last 6 years I have purchased 48 titles from Amazon, most of them TV shows which have 20 plus episodes in each season. With all the content plus hardware I have purchased from Amazon, I can quickly add up a reasonable total that is close to $5,000.

This week I went to my library to download season 1 of Breaking Bad and the download link was missing, I checked all of my content and the link was missing on everything. A call to Amazon support and the rep. tells me its a technical problem with my TIVO unit. I asked him how he could know that without running any tests on my unit and by the way, the unit is not reporting any errors and if it was, how could an error on my TIVO cause a web page on Amazon to fail on displaying the download link? He inistists that it is a technical problem and that I should contact TIVO support.

So I call TIVO and get this answer. Amazon contacted TIVO and asked them to dumb down all TIVO units to prevent users from downloading any content. TIVO refused, so instead of working out thier differences with TIVO, Amazon cuts off downloading to all TIVO customers even if they have Amazon approved TIVO hardware, and it doesn't stop there.

When I loaded the Amazon app. on my TIVO to stream, I suddenly had fuzzy video, so bad you couldn't see someones face and the unit pauses every 10 seconds to fill the buffer. So I hooked up a packet analyzer and started monitoring the data stream from Amazon's data center to my static IP. What do I find, Amazon is throttling the bandwidth down to below 600Kbps, 535Kbps (Kilobytes) to be precise. That's 600% slower than what I was getting two weeks ago. I have a business class internet connection and I can confirm I have 30Mbps (Megabytes) download speed everywhere except to Amazon's data center, I can hit thier website with that 30Mbps but not the data center.

So I borrowed my daughter Sony DVD player because it can connect to Amazon, and I did a test using that device. Once connected I could download any video from my library at 17-26Mbps, the image is pristine and the audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. So I pause, switch over to the TIVO and restart the stream on the same video, and it comes downs at 540Kbps.

So without so much as an email, a letter or any kind of notice with an option to prepare for this, Amazon targets TIVO customers and cuts thier services. At 500Kbps it makes no sense to stream, I'll fall asleep during the pauses waiting, and some videos have no audio at all.

What's the sense in paying for an Amazon Prime membership, buying content at $16 - $60 a title, that's either a movie or an entire season of a TV show, if you can't watch it on Amazon approved TIVO hardware?

As far as I am concerned, I've paid in advance for a service they are still selling but not delivering on, some how that feels like a breach of contract. And if every TIVO owner is experiencing what I am, then I'll sit back and wait for the class action law suit.

If you subscribe to Amazon Prime or purchase content from them to either download or stream, let me know if you're having the same experience. If Amazon has targeted all TIVO customers, then they have bit the tail of a rattlesnake as most TIVO owners are pretty hardcore when comes to getting what they paid for.

Premiere problem

Recently my premiere has been snowy, flurry on certain channels. This has me worried. I called my cable company and they checked the cable lines outside and inside the house, no problems there. I got a replacement cablecard and tuning adapter Tuesday, problem still there. Here's the weird part: When I switch between the channels on the bottom menu it only happens when I do this switch so I keep the top tuner running at all time and stay away from the bottom tuner (I'm guessing that's the proper word to use). Another problem is when I reboot the TiVo the welcome video stops at the beginning and go straight to the TiVo menu. I'm guessing the hard drive is going bad. Can someone help me with this, before I spend the money on a new hard drive. :confused:

Problem downloading Outdoor Channel HD video with kmttg.

I don't know enough about kmttg to say if the problem is with that program or somewhere else.

On Monday kmttg worked fine to download videos from the Outdoor Channel HD to my desktop computer. On Wednesday all I got were small, audio-only mpg files. I don't remember any program updates between the two days but there might have been. Standard definition programs from the same channel work normally as do all programs from a few other channels I've tried.

My stuff:

Win7 Home Premium 64-bit
kmttg v1.1n

I have the same issues on an identically configured laptop.

The programs were fine to watch on the TV so I re-booted the TiVo which didn't help (I've rebooted it two more times since then).

I switched kmttg to Transport Stream and it appears to download the entire program. I then found that TiVo Desktop set on fastest speed, and downloading TS files in a browser all seem to work, but not the program streams.

The tivodecode program doesn't work with TS format files, so I downloaded the trial version of VideoRedo Plus, got a key and registered it. I couldn't get it to work with kmttg so I tried loading videos directly into the program. It works fine with files from other channels, but with the TS files from Outdoor HD I get "H.264/AVC video streams are not supported in this version" messages. It looks like I would need to spend $100 for the TV Suite version to find out if that would fix my problem.

I then decided to try DirectShow Dump, but Norton anti-virus flagged it (by reputation) as dangerous and removed it. Probably a false positive, but I thought I'd ask here before I pulled it out of quarantine.

The ideal solution for me would be to be able to switch kmttg back to program stream and use tivodecode. The simplest would be just to watch the programs on TV, but that's so 20th century. ;)

Any help will be appreciated.

Vikings Season 3

I got to this show late, watched the last 2 seasons on Netflix, setup the Tivo the record season 3, but I missed episodes 1 and 2. Amazon has season 3, and I have prime, but it looks like even though I have prime I would have to pay to watch it on Amazon?

Can anyone else confirm that? It blows my mind that I would need to pay for a show that is currently airing.

How do I get the mini to start on the same channel

When I turn the TV on in the bedroom in the AM, the last thing I want to do is fumble around with the remote. I want to hit Power-on and then Live-TV and watch my morning TV channel.

How do I get it to remember what channel I was watching last and just leave it there when I turn it on the morning?

Slow Download Speeds?

Is anyone else seeing pretty slow downloads to their TiVo app from their Roamio?

I have a Wireless-N network set up (the Roamio is connected via Moca). With my iPad Air in the same room as the router, trying to download shows on Medium quality (600 MB for 1 hour show) seems to be taking a lot longer than it should. It's basically taking about 1 hour to download a 1 hour show.

Having a problem with optical audio on my Roamio.

I just recently got a Roamio DVR and an HD antenna. While waiting for my DirectTV subscription to run out, I've been playing around with the Roamio. I connected it to the HDMI3 port of my TV and have gone through all of the channel setup and created One Passes for all of the shows my wife and I like to record. So far, everything has been working well, but I've only been using the TV speakers for audio when using the Roamio.

Yesterday, I decided to make sure that it will work with my older Bose Lifestyle 28 home theater system. The way I am set up now, I have an optical connection between the Bose and my DirectTV box, and that works fine, but I decided instead to try using the optical out from my TV, so that if I end up buying a Roku or AppleTV down the road, I can get all of them to play audio through the Bose (which only has one optical input).

Anyhow, I first switch the optical cable from my DirectTV box to the TV and verified that the sound still worked from DirectTV. Then, I switched the TV input to HDMI3 for the Roamio, but I didn't get the sound. I tried swapping the HDMI inputs so that the Roamio was on HDMI1 and DirectTV was on HDMI3, but I still got no sound from the Roamio but did get sound from DirectTV.

After doing all this, I decided to try moving the optical cord from the TV to the Roamio's optical output. Even going directly from the Roamio to the Bose, I don't get any sound.

I've tried playing with the audio settings on the Tivo both while sending optical directly from the Tivo and via the TV, but I haven't been able to get it working.

I've sent this information to Tivo support and am waiting to hear from them, but I though I would post it here as well to see if anyone has seen this before.

Can you move a cleared HD between Roamios

Can you do a clear and delete everything from a currently in use drive and then install it in a different Roamio and preform guided setup . Should it work or do you have to used a drive utility to erase everything on the drive..

v69 error with powerline network

I have two Premieres connected via a powerline networking kit. I get constant v69 errors even though speed tests show 20+Mbps. I have rebooted every component multiple times but still get the error.

Any thought or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Tivo Desktop Plus Now Playing folders

I just installed Tivo Desktop Plus. I would like to transfer about 10 MP4 videos to my Roamio (all parts of a review course I purchased). However I can't figure out a way to transfer them to one folder. Rather they transfer as individual shows under My Shows. Anyone now how to do this? I was hoping this would be simpler than using pytivo and creating metadata files, etc. Thanks.

Update:
Nevermind. I figured it out. If you push from Tivo Desktop rather than pull from Tivo it will create a folder named the same as the folder within the transfer list. If you pull from Tivo it just creates individual listings within My Shows.

Is it safe to give someone your TiVo Service Number?

I am currently selling a Premiere with lifetime service on ebay. Someone asked me to give him my TiVo Service Number so that he can confirm my unit's lifetime service is still active. Is this okay to do? On my listing I included a pic of my screen that clearly says the lifetime is valid. I blacked out my TSN. Is this a scam? What can he do with my account if he has my TSN?

Sound issue on the Romio on TWC

Let me preface this by saying I don't personally own a Romio, but I am a longtime Tivo customer. Recently I encouraged a friend of mine to abandon all of the TWC equipment he was renting in favor going TIVO all the way for a better and more reliable experience. He took my advice and jumped in with both feet, but his experience has been less than stellar.


He's seeing an issue where when he changes channels to the pay channels(HBO Showtime, etc.) he consistently has channels tune in with a picture and with no sound. Not all of them mind you, but he can make this scenario occur. We have tested his machine at my house where I have no issues with my premiere equipment and his Romio showed this behavior at my home as well.
He has two cable cards and two tuning adapters that he has tried and again he gets the same behavior with either.
He even had Tivo send him another Romio and again it's the same behavior. I'm convinced this is a software issue with Tivo or with the cable card. I don't have the software and HW versions for either at my disposal right now, but I wanted to ping the community to see if anyone is seeing this.

Maybe something introduced after the most recent update?

We both live in the Raleigh area of NC and have TWC as our cable provider.

To test for it simply tune to the first HBO in your guide. Channel up from there. When it occurs there is always a slightly longer pause before the channel tunes in without sound.

To get the sound to come in he can simply menu out until there is no mini TV picture and when he goes back the sound is there.

He's initiated a recording without the sound and sure enough no sound was recorded.

Anyone that can reproduce this please post here.

Out of warranty repair costs

Does anyone know what TiVo charges for an out of warranty repair for a mini? The NIC is apparently dead. I switch cables and ports to no avail. I can switch it to MOCA, get it repair, or just replace it.

Tivo Mini stutters for 1 hr same time everyday

I have a Tivo Roamio (6 tuner) and 2 Minis connected via MoCa. Typically, only one Mini is in use at this time. Everyday, at around 11:00am, the Mini starts stuttering for about an hour. By noon, it works as expected. The hosting Roamio does not stutter, so I am assuming my inbound cable signal is sufficient.

• All Minis and Roamio are on the latest update.
• There is not any additional load on the Roamio during this time (no recordings occuring, system/programming downloads).
• There is not anything else running on the MoCa network (no additional cable boxes, etc.)
• The cable network is relatively clean - a 4-way splitter coming in to the house behind the POE filter. I did install a signal booster to the one room with the Mini, but that has not impacted the stuttering one way or the other.

Ideas?

Anyway to add Xfinity VOD to Roamio Basic OTA?

I have two TiVos: (1) Roamio Basic that I use for OTA recordings and (1) Roamio Pro that I use for Comcast recordings. I like how I can go back in many cases to all seasons on certain shows now with Xfinity VOD on my Pro. On my Basic, there isn't an option for Xfinity VOD. I was hoping there would be and I'd be able to input my Comcast login credentials, like I did for Hulu and Netflix, so I could have Xfinity VOD on my Basic unit as well.

Has anyone attempted to do this and figured out how to get Xfinity VOD onto a Basic unit that uses OTA? I was wondering if I could temporarily put my cablecard into the Basic, set it up for cable to see the Xfinity VOD and then revert back to OTA and see if the Xfinity VOD "stays" as a streaming option.

TWC Digital Adapter needed?

I have a Tivo Roamio with a Cable Card and a Time Warner Cable (TWC) (large) Tuning Adapter. TWC keeps emailing and calling me to upgrade to a pocket-sized "Digital Adapter". Do I need to do anything, or will my current setup still work after their transition on May 5?

Unable to download any shows from Tivo to iPhone (Unknown Session Error)

I have a Roamio DVR and I'm having trouble streaming content, especially premium shows. Every time I download a show from the DVR to my iPhone the transfer is stopped after a few minutes. When I try to resume the download, I get an error message (attached to this post) that reads "Unknown Session Error [0x10005]. We are unable to download 'show name' in my shows: iPhone."

I contacted Tivo support and this is now with their engineers. I have tried everything (Tivo suggested) to fix this issue to no avail. It is incredibly frustrating I cannot download premium shows, or most shows at this point.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Roamio, Moca Help/Questions...Point me in the right direction.

I’m a new Tivo user and so far, I love it and punch myself in the face for not doing this sooner.

I really only have 1 hiccup and I blame myself for this. :p When I built this house 10 years ago, I wired Ethernet in every room except 1. No idea why, but its done and I have to move on..lol

I have 1 Roamio plus, 3 minis with 1 on a wireless bridge (in this room we mentioned above.) As expected the connection works but is spotty and Video on demand isn’t a great experience.

Obviously my next thing is Moca. I’m pretty technical but still unsure what I need to get this working. With my setup, do I even need a moca adapter? If so, Amazon has some, Tivo has some (which are cheaper) but I’m not sure which and how many I need. I think only 1 but not sure. I think I also need that filter (Point-of-entry).

The cable splitter in the house I could easily join the 2 outlets together and avoid the amplified splitter in the house if that is a good idea. Just not sure what I need or the best way to set this up for what I have (Roamio and 3 minis).

My house has 2 8 port dlink switches which are right next to the cable splitter. I'd love to hide a moca adapter right there if i need one. Like i said, if i'm not explaining anything or you have questions, ask and i'll answer!

Green Arrow: OAD n4/22/15

Oliver and Felicity --- finally! The show was ramping up that sexual tension in recent episodes, so it's nice to see some resolution.

I have no idea what will happen now that Oliver is to be head of the assassins.

Closed Captioning Issues?

I have had my Roamio since Sept 2013. I am hearing impaired so I use the closed captioning when watching TV. For the last couple months I have noticed that there are times when the dialogue is not captioned or the captions will only flash on the screen for a second and you can't read them before they're gone. It is on several channels and different shows so it is not station or show specific.

It is happening more and more frequently and is getting very distracting and annoying when trying to follow a show. I don't have these issues when I watch the Apple TV so I do think that it is the captioning that is coming through the Tivo that is at issue.

Is anyone else experiencing problems? Any advice?

NBC Nightly News did it yet again (Wed. April 22nd)

Seems the Boston marathon bomber made a profane gesture at a security camera in a cell he was being held in, and a still shot from the recording was shown in the courtroom.

NBC news showed the images from the security camera without pixelating the hand, and then showed a drawing made by a courtroom artist of the picture being displayed in the courtroom. The drawing also plainly shows the offending hand...and finger.

This is the same thing they apologized for a few months ago when the same gesture was shown on someone's t-shirt without pixelization.

Have they changed their policy, I wonder?
