tivo slide remote play/select/pause buttons not working

I just plugged in a brand new slide to my tivi mini ( after I didn't realize I had to order a usb dongle the first time ).



I paired by holding Tivo and back buttons, and that worked. But the play, select, pause, up, down, <<,>>, etc buttons do not work on the top of the controller. The circle on the keyboard does.



Any suggestions?
