Why do all recordings stop when the tuning adapter disconnects

Every time the tuning adapter disconnects all recordings stop. Is there anything I can do about this?

I never had this problem on Windows Media Center



I wonder if I can just unplug the tuning adapter. I don't know what channels use it here in St Louis
