A little background...
Just received 2 TiVo Roamio's and immediately upgraded HDD (WD 3TB) in both prior to powering up and activating Comcast cablecard.
While both units booted and activated just fine, one of the units had issues with pixelation on a hand-full of channels and a couple of channels would not tune at all. The other unit seemed to work just fine on all channels.
Worked extensively with Comcast on the cable cards to see if they were part of the problem to no avail. Swapped cable cards in both units and re-activated but still had the same issue. They sent a technician out who spent over an hour checking signal strength but everything measured as it should. He even went so far to replace the wall jack and the coax cable connected to the TiVo but it had no impact.
I then moved the "bad" TiVo from the bedroom (which had issues w/pixelation) to the Living Room and it still had the same issues on the same channels. I moved the "good" TiVo from the Living Room (which was working fine) to the bedroom and it still worked fine. This told me that it was likely something within the TiVo unit itself.
Called TiVo tech support and they decided to send out a replacement unit.
Prior to returning the unit, I removed the upgraded HDD and installed the original drive.
My question is...
When I receive the new TiVo, do I need to do anything to the upgraded HDD that I removed from the other unit prior to installing and booting? I wasn't sure if I would need to connect the drive to my pc and format it (since it had already been running in the previous unit) or let the TiVo manage it.
Just curious, if I did nothing but install the 3TB HDD and boot the unit, would it still go through the Guided Setup or would it boot up as if it had already been configured?
I don't have anything I need to retain and would personally prefer to have the TiVo treat it like a brand new HDD. I've read several threads on people who have had trouble using the C&DE (Clear & Delete Everything) option and am a little concerned about going that route (if it's even available for the Roamio).
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
