ok, so I've got a 180hr series 2 dvr with lifetime subscription. I've already read a bunch on here and I'm 99% sure I cant just swap my sub to a different box.
so I feel my only recourse is to try to repair it. I'm not new to electronics, heck I used to buy broken playstations on ebay and swap parts to fix them and then resell.
anyway, I'm pretty sure its the sound board thats gone out. I also think I've had an ongoing issue with the tuner board as well (I'd have fuzzy channels in the lower channel section that I wouldnt with the cable hooked directly to the tv).
I just always dealt with the fuzzy channels until the sound started going crazy with all the crackling.
I know the "crypto chip" is on one of the boards but before I buy a good used tivo unit (found two for less then $20 each) off ebay and get into it, I want to know if the sound board is separate from the main logic board with the crypto chip on it?? from what I've read, the tuner board is separate so that should be no problem but if I cant fix the sound issue I wont even bother with the tuner issue.
anyone know anything on this? I'll keep on looking through the forums but it seems like sound issues are much more rare than tuner issues?
