tale of two tuners - basic and plus

Before my refurb basic showed up, I went ahead and tested the wiring and splitter in its new home (the kid's room) for sufficient signal using my roamio plus and it's TA (Cisco STA1520) by simply running a cable with the splitter down the hall. The TA was showing tuner/FDC/RDC levels within the recommended range and the Tivo diagnostics on the plus was showing signal levels between 95-100% and SNR of 38-42 across all 6 tuners. So I figured I would have no issues.

After I got the roamio basic and everything was up and running, I checked its levels to confirm. The new TA (same Cisco model) had levels within the recommended range that were comparable to the test I did with the existing TA; however, the signal levels and SNR for the roamio basic were lower than what I saw with the plus. The levels were ranging between 85-92% with SNR of 34-37 across all 4 tuners.

I tried using new cables a tech had just made in the kid's room and that showed no improvement in signal level. I moved the tivo feed on the 3 way splitter to the lowest loss line and that didn't improve the levels. I even reattached the cables to the plus and tuned in the same channels to see if my test was off - the results were the same as the test earlier.

It struck me as odd as that the levels would be that different, but of course they are two different pieces of equipment. Perhaps the 6 tuner plus has a stronger internal amplification to compensate for the extra tuners.

Does this seem unusual to anyone else? Is there anything else I should check? Currently there is no pixelation/blocking on the basic so the levels seem sufficient for now.
