New here and i have a couple of questions.
So with windows 10 dropping WMC my HTCP solution for a DVR is dying. The HDHomerun Prime has been a great setup over the years and has already paid for itself, but the alternatives to WMC are terrible.. actually terrible is a compliment to some of the junk that's out there.
Going to jump on the refurb Roamio and have a couple easy/stupid questions.
Since i already have a working, activated cable card i just drop it right in the Tivo correct? No need to re-activate it or call the cable company?
I am coming from an environment with two full HTPC's and a lot more storage than any of the roamios offer. So obviously i want to at least upgrade to a 3 gig drive. Does the disk speed matter on a tivo? Should i use a 7200 rpm drive or would a 5400 function identically? Honestly i am a little nervous about how fast/responsive the Tivo's will be compared to dedicated HTPCs. Being a nerd my HTPC's put most full towers to shame and everything in WMC is instantaneous on SSD drives. Has anyone used a 1 or 2 gig SSD in a tivo?
I was planning on going with a mini and cat5 for other TVs, since i already have it run from my previous setup. However i've seen people who have multiple Tivo boxes networked together instead. Another Roamio would be cheaper than a mini, except the one time $250, which i could do, but is there any actual advantage to having two full tivo's VS a mini?
Also, why does on demand only work for Comcast? My cable company, Midcontinent, rents Tivo DVR's that have on demand, but if i buy my own i cant get it.. wth?
thanks!
