Soundbar controled by TiVo Remote?

Right now my set up has my TiVo remote able to turn both my TV and my receiver on and off...but the volume control only operates the receiver.

Have any of you had experience using your TiVo remotes to turn the soundbars on along with the TV (like the receiver setup) and then operate the soundbar volume with the TiVo remote.

I plan to connect the soundbar directly to the TiVo via an optical cable. The HDMI to the TV would remain the same, but the TV speakers would be turned off.
