Huge FCC rule change could make internet TV a reality

As far as FCC chair Tom Wheeler is concerned, there should be no difference between cable, satellite, and internet TV providers, so long as they're all offering the same service. "Twenty-first century consumers shouldn’t be shackled to rules that only recognize 20th century technology," Wheeler writes in a blog post today. Likewise, the rule change would also mean that current cable networks remain regulated the same way should they move online.

If I were TiVo I would try to be a real player in this field. What will be missing is a high end delivery mechanism - something more than what the standard streaming box is able to deliver.

TiVo has the horsepower to compete with XBone and PS4 and the design and infrastructure to deliver a consumer friendly product. I am not suggesting that TiVo try to become a content provider, but they should definitely look for early partnerships.
