Lifetime Service Transfer Question

I bought a used Toshiba Series 2 DVR at a swap meet. When I powered it up, the System Information screen says the TiVo account is in good standing. It also says call their service number since the machine hadn't logged on in a long time.



Since I'm not the original owner, and don't know who he/she is, and I've never had a TiVo subscription, can I get a free account in my name and receive the TiVo service?
