Person of Interest - S4E03 - "Wingman" - 10/07/2014

With two mythology heavy episodes in a row and having our team be in a depressing situation all around, it's not a surprise that Wingman was designed to be a lighter episode.

And yet, there were still plenty of mythology moments on tap last night as well that gelled into an enjoyable episode where everyone got something to do, even Bear.

Obviously, Reese can't go undercover as needing a wingman because who would believe that he needed one.

And since Harold was otherwise occupied, it falls to schlubby Fusco to pose as the client.

Sure, the storyline is fairly routine for POI but one thing that the show has been good at is showing our characters growing.

The Lionel of last night is a far cry from the Fusco we met in the pilot.

A jerky, corrupt cop with very dirty hands.

Present Lionel can still be a bit of a jerk but beneath it all, he's a stand up guy trying to do what's right.

Even Wingman Cooper comes around concerning Lionel.

(I also liked the fact that Fusco basically chewed out Reese for not taking "the job" seriously.)

Shaw probably did a lot eye rolling listening to Fusco hitting on women but she also had the funniest line of the night in "That is yesterday's suit".

But it was also a smart move on her part to use Bear the help find Fusco and Cooper.

While Reese didn't do a lot for this case, we did get to see him be more serious at being a homicide detective and just about charming the pants off his Captain (told you he didn't need a wingman).

Plus it shows some of what our team has to do to maintain a balance between their cover identities and their work.

Root and Finch's side mission was also an interesting diversion.

We got to see Michael Emerson roll out those bad guy acting chops he used so well on Lost when pretending to be Mr. Egret for the Machine.

And they get a nice windfall in cash and other supplies in the process.

(Although you do wonder what's going to happen with that rocket launcher.)
